Curiosity Didn't Kill the Cat, but We're Not So Sure She's Coming Back

Imagine you were on your way home from work. It's been a rough day. Maybe your boss was ranting about some nonsense that'd only make sense to close-minded people. Maybe you have that annoying coworker that got on your last nerve, and you have to cover for them like always. Or maybe you're just not that fond of your job to begin with, regardless of the likeability of your peers and superiors.

Or maybe you quite like your job, but a break would be nice. Anyways.

Imagine making your way back to the solace that is your home, be it messy, or very clean, and everything in between.

Then you turn a corner to hear this.

??: "E-excuse me. Um, I just need to g-get by… please?"

CRUNCH.

There goes another car.

??: "Oops…"

It was evening, the last leg of rush hour. Typically in this part of the Sciliva region, let alone in most places of the world, one wouldn't expect the appearance of a twenty-something foot tall Twileon trying to make her way down a busy street barely wide enough to accommodate her. One may not also expect, upon beholding the above scenario, for the giantess to successfully do such a thing without some sort of accident or some element of chaos to otherwise ensue; in which one would absolutely be correct.

While such accidents have been limited to the destruction of property for the moment, her appearance alone soon attracted a crowd. Reactions ranged from disbelief on part of her being some sort of hybrid or mutant Pokemon, to displeasure from her blocking traffic, and everything in between. Some even took to recording the event with cameras, or reporting on it. Some yelled at her directly.

Speaking of yelling, she heard a lot more of it right then, regarding that smashed automobile. When she spoke again, she sounded even more hushed and timid.

??: "Oh, I know I'm m-making a mess… a-and I'm really, really sorry…"

Surely with self awareness that she's disrupting the commute will come the realization that she probably shouldn't be here.

But the giantess, Pikavee, persisted anyway.

A dumb idea I had a while back after someone gave @ask-n‘s version of N some shampoo. A more feral version of Kats (who is also a bit more scarred from experience) teaching the boy how to use the pretty-smelling, bad-tasting stuff.

Aether Paradise is an artificial island located in Alola!

We take in injured Pokémon and rehabilitate them or let them live out their lives on the island if their unable to be released

What do you hc each Mayday Crew member's special skillset is? For instance, what does each member specialize in that makes them stand out above others within the group dynamic as it relates to assisting Verosika?

I assume Ace is the head Choreographer, and also gets the honor of being the top pick for music video arm candy if Verosika needs it. Josh, likewise, is a back-up dancer, alongside Apple, Cocoa, and Milky. Ace is her second-in-command, so he keeps everyone in line and on-task, which means he's also responsible for her phone, social callendar, remembering all of her friends and enemies, and is also basically her receptionist, unless she hands her phone to someone else. Apple is absolutely Verosika's health guru, personal trainer, yoga instructor, or whatever. Cocoa is a nutritionist to make sure Verosika's staying healthy. Kiki is in charge of Verosika's hair, make-up, and wardrobe. Josh was only hired because he's a hot piece of man candy to dance sexily behind Verosika and not to talk, but he's really good with social media and knowing what's trendy, so he keeps Verosika up to date on trends, gossip, challenges, and sometimes runs her social media pages for her. However, Josh has had some hiccups in the past, and now he's not allowed to post anything for Verosika until Ace or Kiki has looked at it and approved it. Given that Verosika just mindlessly handed her bottle of booze to Milky, I assume she's Verosika's personal assistant. If Verosika needs something, she's going to call either Ace or Milky depending on the situation. If it's a professional thing, she asks for Ace, if it's more personal, she calls for Milky. Milky is the one who reaches behind the fridge to get Verosika's phone. She's the one who books the hotel reservation. She's the one who keeps Verosika balanced. She may also be in charge of handling Verosika's public image, deciding which gossip rags Verosika will do interviews for, or what places aren't good enough for Verosika to take gigs at. If Ace is ever indisposed, Kiki is next in the totem pole to keep everybody in line, and then Milky after her. But she's not as good at the whole discipline thing as Ace, so the team suffers without Ace leading them. Kat is the young blood of the group. The newest hire. He's just a back-up dancer and the official "gopher" of the group. Just the group's collective assistant. Mostly because when they tried to make Tex the Gopher, he just growled, and they all knew better than to ask again. So, now it's all on Kat to run everybody's errands. If Verosika wants coffee, he's the one they send. If her dry-cleaning needs to be picked up, it's his job. If her pills need refilling, that is NOT his job. Milky handles that. Kat is not allowed near anything that important to Verosika. He is the lowest rung on the ladder. If anyone in the group is the lyricist or composer other than Verosika herself, my top guess would be that Ace and/or Kiki, though Ace is more invested in the stage performance. If somebody handles all of Verosika's musical stuff, then I'd make these slight changes: Kiki is the arranger, composer, and lyricist who puts together all of Verosika's songs and helps Verosika with her vocals, Ace is head Choreographer, and Milky does Hair, Make-up, and Wardrobe. Personal assistant status slides down the totem pole to Cocoa, making Apple the health and wellness personnel, Josh the social media guru, and Kat is still just the lowly assistant that does everyone's grunt work.

This will serve as the first chapter when the story is going in sequential order and not devolving into snapshots when I inevitably distract myself with writing nothing but hypno battles between pretty wrestler girls

So this was it. This was what it felt like to make it to the big time. Sure, the Remix Wrestling Federation had endured its fair share of scrutiny and drama over the past year or so, but to someone like Chloe Black, it still had all the makings of the kind of place where a lifelong dream can come true. It hadn't been an easy road to get here. Never really is in the world of professional wrestling. You need to possess the right combination of looks, charisma, wrestling ability, and a mind that can deal with setback after setback. And while the humble and modest Chloe might have said she probably lacked in some of those areas, it was clear to outside observers that she had…something.

She had started training at the age of 16, which was technically not allowed in the States. But she had gotten around all that by consistently lying about her age, and most trainers didn't really care so long as the checks cleared. Her road had been bumpy. Injuries, having to work two other jobs to keep paying all the bills, homesickness. Through it all, however, she had kept her head down and persevered. With the help of a few of her friends, she had made her way onto a showcase event where she was scouted by RWF decision makers. By the end of that day, Chloe walked away with a contract offer in hand.

Maybe she wasn't the best and brightest out there, but she had certainly popped during that show. It hadn't hurt that her opponent that day had been Daphne Dean, only one of her best friends since her teenage years. Daphne had been signed to RWF for a few months by then and had gone out of her way to let Chloe shine in the match. Only two women had gotten signed after that showcase event, Chloe and the woman who bumped past her left shoulder on her way into the locker room.

"Maybe don't stand in the doorway?" snarled Zoe Lacroix, not even bothering to look over her shoulder as she stomped her way through.

Black shook it off and made a mental note to try and extend the olive branch. The two of them hadn't gotten off to the best of starts after Chloe had accidentally interrupted Zoe during a FaceTime call with her coach. She could tell Zoe was going to be someone she needed to get in good with. There was a star quality to her that had her earmarked as a future top star. And that wasn't just Chloe's opinion. Evelyn Taylor had said as much during the meeting where the two of them were offered contracts. Zoe had a cute face, flaming pink hair, and the whole world out ahead of her. Chloe couldn't help but feel envious.

She nervously stepped into the locker room, taking a look around to get a read on the situation. It wasn't easy considering she only knew most of the women in here from watching them on television. Where should she even start? Zoe was already making the rounds, breezily introducing herself. Her shift in tone had been a total 180 from the way she had spoken to Black just moments prior. But just as Chloe's spirits were starting to crater, she spotted Daphne sitting on a bench and adjusting her ankle socks.

Chloe smiled and waved but wasn't able to head in Daphne's direction before there was a huge slap on her back. It was a friendly one, but it startled her all the same.

"What's up, toots?"

Toots? Chloe turned around to see Kat Action. Kat had come in around the same time as Daphne and was already starting to be regularly featured on RWF programming. She was sporting a gray hoodie, and her hair was tied back in a messy bun. It was as if she had rolled out of bed and headed to the arena for today's taping. But she was smiling at Chloe, so Black felt obliged to return the favor.

"In your gear already?" Kat asked in that same playful tone. "Don't tell me you drove all the way here looking like that. We've got a hair and makeup team for a reason, ya know. Sheeeesh. Rookies!"

Chloe's cheeks couldn't help but turn scarlet, which only induced Kat to reach over and give one a pinch.

"Aren't you a cutie patootie? Yeah, I knew they were gonna bring you in. You and, well, her." Kat gestured over towards Zoe with her thumb, her smile faltering for just a moment. "But, hey, welcome to the show. I can take you for a spin around the locker room if you'd like."

Chloe suddenly had stars in her eyes. Kat had an undeniable confidence to her that made Black want to learn everything about her. She was cool, calm, collected, and everything Chloe hoped she could be someday. It would have taken a complete fool to turn down such a nice offer. But Action was already taking her by the shoulders to guide her around the area without so much as waiting for an answer.

Kat didn't bother introducing Chloe to anyone, preferring to simply give Black the rundown on her read of the situation. There was Alexis Valentine, the nerdy cosplayer who always had a quip handy. Amoeba and Fenomena, a couple of punk rock girlfriends who had a penchant for PDA. Sinn Maddox, who had flawlessly transitioned from MMA to pro wrestling stardom. Himeko, the joshi legend who swore Duolingo had helped her become bilingual in under a month. Aurora, who was always livestreaming to her army of wealthy simps. The list went on and on.

Chloe had so many questions she wanted to ask but couldn't find a break in Action's stream of consciousness to butt in. She found herself staring at Ginny Stark and Olivia Owens. The two of them sat across from one another on a bench, facing one another. Ginny appeared to be helplessly staring at Olivia while Owens spoke softly and slowly. "Uh…"

"Oh, don't mind that. A lot of the girls around here have a little game they like to play. Basically like a staring contest. You want my advice? Don't get mixed up in it. You'll put some of them out if you say no, but believe me when I tell you it's a lot better than the alternative."

As if on cue, Irene Quinn suddenly entered the room to a gale of laughter. She was dressed like a maid and had the blankest expression Chloe had ever seen. Black couldn't help but be alarmed at what she was seeing, especially when Irene walked right up to Himeko, curtsied, and began helping the joshi legend dress for her upcoming match.

"Dude, don't worry about it, alright? Irene lost to Himeko, so this is the punishment they worked out. Stay with me here, toots."

"But she looks so--"

"Forget about it. Trust me. I've got you."

"I don't even know you."

Kat looked hurt, and Chloe immediately regretted saying that. But Action bounced back with a wink. "I guess I'll have to work on changing that, huh? Oh, and one little piece of advice. Maybe change up the gear? You don't want people to get the impression you're working with two different cup sizes, eh?"

Action walked away, giggling to herself. Chloe looked down at her top. C. B. That thought had never even occurred to her. They were just her chosen initials! Suddenly feeling like everything was going wrong, Chloe had to bite her bottom lip to contain the swirling emotions. Maybe Kat was just trying to loosen her up with a joke.

"Hey, she's weird, huh? Kind of sleazy. Perverted. I mean, who picks a name like Action? We're not in a Spy Kids movie." Daphne must have picked up on what Chloe was going through and had placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"I don't know," Chloe said, allowing herself one sniffle before smiling. "I think it's great. I think everything's just great."

Kat's Max Verstappen Primer

Note: I'm posting this privately because I am an active member of the fandom, and although I want people to have this information. I don't want this listed on my blog where my own fictional works reside. This also may turn into multiple parts, I don't know if I plan on covering everything that's gone on with Max in recent years.

2024: Will keep updating as the 2024 season unfolds.

Let's start with some basic facts.

Max was born in Hasselt, Belgium on September 30, 1997 (making him a Libra) to parents Sophie Kumpen and Jos Verstappen.

He has four younger siblings, Victoria (full sister), Blue Jaye, Jason, and Mila (who are all fathered by Jos). I'm not going to list any of their ages.

Max started karting at the age of 4. He asked Jos if he could pursue karting, and Jos let him. Max also played Football (Soccer) when he was younger, but gave it up to keep karting.

Jos and Sophie divorced in 2008 when Max was 10 and Jos' career in Formula 1 had come to an end. From what I can find, Max started living with Jos full-time after Jos and Sophie divorced (Sophie did have a restraining order against Jos filed given that he had hit her). While Jos was coaching Max in karting, Jos would work during the week while Max was at school, and on weekends Max and Jos would travel around Europe to compete in karting competitions.

Jos Verstappen

Jos' treatment of Max is pretty well documented by auto-biographies, sound bites, interviews from people in the Verstappen camp, and even by Max himself.

From an early age, when Max made it first known to Jos that he wanted to start karting, Jos did what he thought was right and pushed Max to succeed to the point where most people (even some in the Verstappen camp) viewed Jos' coaching as if he was being too hard on Max (ie. abuse). Jos himself had a similar upbringing to Max, but unlike Jos, Max was able to overcome what he was put through as a child (his father hitting him with his helmet on when he didn't do well, Max not taking off his helmet being afraid he would get hit, leaving Max at a gas station after losing a race is a notable incident given that it happened twice, and Jos not talking to Max for a full week after losing a race). Max would become a champion three times over despite Jos always telling him that he wouldn't amount to anything.

Jos Verstappen is an interesting figure in the world of Formula 1, from his 2 podiums to fathering a now 3-time world champion. He is not a well-liked person in the sport, Jos is known for talking to the media about his son, with the knowledge that he and his son don't share opinions when it comes to the sport. (see the rumors about Max possibly leaving Red Bull, and Jos commenting on it.) Max always has to rebuff Jos' statements to the media even though Jos no longer races in F1, or had a particularly successful career during his 8-years in the sport. Jos was also teammates with 7-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacker, who is considered to be one of the greatest of all time in the sport.

Despite Jos' treatment of Max, Max seems greatful for the pressure that Jos put on him when he was growing up. It resulted in the winning mentality that Max has now, going in with a mindset to win each race that Max and his ex-trainer/physiotherapist Bradley Scanes had helped him with.

Before Formula 1

When Max was coming up in karting, one of Max's strongest rivals was now Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. In 2012, Max and Charles had a collision while they were racing in the second round of the WSK Euro Series, which resulted in the, "Nothing just an inchident." comment from Leclerc. You can find the cut version with both of Max and Charles' answers here. They would both end up getting disqualified from that race.

Max would also race against another eventual F1 driver; Lando Norris who is currently driving for McLaren. Lando was 13 in the photos and Max was 15.

Max had quite a prolific karting career, placing first in 23 championships in the 9 years he was racing in karts. He would place 2nd in 5 championships in those 9 years, and 3rd once in his last year before starting in Formula 3. Max competed in a total of 45 Championships during his karting career.

After competing in Formula 3, and winning a championship. He skipped Formula 2 and went straight to Formula 1.

Coming to F1

When Max first made it to Formula 1, he was given the nickname Mad Max by some of the media given his temper when he wouldn't perform well, or the car ended up having issues like an engine failure.

Max joined F1 in 2015 driving for Toro Rosso (now VCARB), making him the youngest driver to ever compete in Formula 1, because of this the FIA has a rule that a driver needs to be 18 to compete in the sport. In 2016, he ended up being called up by Red Bull, taking Daniil Kyvet's seat after the first four races that year, and Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo would become his teammate.

Daniel and Max became good friends off the track, despite what the first season of Netflix's Drive to Survive would have some fans think. Daniel was the first person to welcome Max into the sport and wish him luck when Max was testing for his superlicence. They originally met in 2011 for the RTL GP Masters of Formula 3 when Max was 13, and Daniel was 22.

In recent years, Max has been given the nickname Super Max given how fast he is on the track, and the way he can utilize the car to its full potential with the help of Red Bull's engineers.

World Championship(s):

2021

In 2021, Max would go on to win his first championship. Max and Lewis Hamilton were equal in points in the Drivers' Championship before the start of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Max qualified on Pole Position, and had a slow start off the line, and ended up dropping into second place. Max was trailing after Lewis by over ten seconds until a late safety car was called due to a crash involving (then) Williams driver Nicholas Letifi on lap 53. Max was on fresher tires when Letifi crashed.

And this was where the confusion started. There was a safety car called, and Max went to get fresh tires (softs). Lewis complained about not pitting for fresh tires on team radio while the safety car was out. This was a big advantage for Max, pitting while the safety car was first called out. Red Bull had a clear strategy that they utilizing in that moment.

There were cars that were out of position given the numbers of laps that they had completed, and they wanted to give those cars a chance to unlap themselves.

With two laps left in the race, race control announce that the lapped cars were not allowed to unlap themselves. The safety car came in before lap 57. Then at the start of lap 57, race control made another announcement that the lapped cars could unlap themselves. The only cars that unlapped themselves were in between Lewis and Max. On the last lap of the race, with 3.2 miles left. Max was able to overtake Lewis in turn 5, and finished the race in first.

2022

In 2022, Formula 1 had a change of regulations, from the aerodynamics of the car, the size of the tyers, a change in sporting regulations, and financial regulations which were introducing the year before.

There was reports stirring about a Cost Cap breech in Singapore. The day after Max won the drivers' championship in Japan, the FIA announced that two teams had also breached the financial regulations, it was Red Bull and Aston Martin (and Williams which came out in May 31st.)

Red Bull ended up paying the FIA $7 million and the team would have a 10% reduction in allocated Restricted Wind tunnel Testing. The 7 million was for Red Bull going over with their catering costs. As is seen on Drive to Survive.

Red Bull and Max would end up keeping both their Constructors and Drivers Championships.

2023

Max and Red Bull pretty much ran away with the drivers and constructors championship in 2023.

Max won 19 out of 22 races, Max won his third championship during the Sprint Race in Qatar. Sergio "Checo" Perez, his teammate won 2 races, and Carlos Sainz Jr., driver for Ferrari won the Singapore Grand Prix.

There is a crazy state that I've seen online countless times that says even if Max wasn't 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, he still would have won the Drivers Championship.

Random Max fact(s):

Max's favorite food is Tomato soup, Beef Carpaccio, and his mom's cooking. Max can't cook. Max doesn't like shellfish, but he likes fish as he'll eat sushi.

Max Sim races in his free time when he's not working, he finds it's a great way to destress from F1. Max will only stream on the official Team Redline Twitch channel, and even then it's not as often as he used to. On Team Redline streams they will always list when Max is going to be on stream.

Max has two Bangal cats; Jimmy and Sassy (They're siblings), who are named after nightclubs (Jimmy'z and Sass Café) in Monaco where he lives.

Hello! My name is Kat, I’m a student at Blueberry academy, and I’ve been enlisted to help with studying the effects of the Synchro machine!

What is the Synchro machine, you may ask? It’s a little device that temporarily allows the minds of a trainer and their Pokémon to combine! It basically lets you both work together in their body. It’s amazing!

I’ve used it with a lot of Pokémon, but Tagline has been by far the best Pokémon to use it with. We’ve got a bond deeper than you could imagine!

My only permanent team member is Tagline, my Zororark. I use rental Pokémon on occasion for battling though.

Raising Dion: Gay kid with superpowers and his scoobies fight monsters, deal with a helicopter Mom

There are lots of movie and tv shows about teenagers discovering that they have superpowers, but not many about eigh-year olds. In Raising Dion, single mom Nicole must deal with her own problems and her son's superpowers, which draw the attention of the usual medical specialists, dark-government agencies, and monstrous supervillains. Gavin Munn plays Dion's best bud. To see if they have a gay-subtext relationship, I reviewed Episode 2.2, about a new boy in school, figuring that this was the episode where Gavin first appears.

Prelude: Mom and Dion off a giant smokey monster in naked human form. So far, so good. The monster leaves, and a guy named Pat (Jason Ritter, left) is left (fully clothed). He explains: "It took a whole day for my body to completely reform, and another to walk to the nearest town, where I decided to start a new life."

Scene 1: Zoom out: he's being interrogated, claiming that he did unspeakable things because the Crooked Man was controlling him. And now it is controlling someone else! Big Boss Suzanne doesn't believe him.

Scene 2: Guys in Hazmat suits investigating a giant crater. There are footprints down there -- maybe the security guard. They call him to check, but he's at home with a disgusting pustulating growth on his neck. They block off the crater so no school kids fall in.

At that moment, Mom and Dion (Ja'siah Young) drive past. Dion, now ten years old, is troubled, but Mom tells him that there is nothing to worry about. He praises his superpower trainer, Tevin (Rome Flynn, top photo). Mom says "I'm glad you like him." Next subject of conversation: the upcoming musical, which Esperanza is counting on him for. Does Dion have a girlfriend? TV writers are hesitant about portraying gay pre-teens or even teenagers, but they'll happily have toddlers expressing heterosexual desire.

Scene 3: At school, Dion is drawing in the abs on a muscular superhero. Questioned by his friend Jonathan (Gavin Munn, already a regular), he claims that they are power stabilizers to help him go faster. "Um...ok," Gavin says, rather obviously pretending not to know that Dion is gay. I'd better take another peek at Dion's interest in his superpower trianer.

Their third friend Esperanza (Sammi Haney), who has a unique body type and uses a wheelchair, wants to know when they're going to investigate the mysterious crater. How about today after school? Next, she has picked out the songs they're going to use for their auditions for the school musical. BFF Jonathan says there's no need: he has his song picked out, and it's going to be awesome!

During class, the new kid Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner) keeps glaring at Dion.

Scene 4: B Plot with Mom and her sister Kat discussing where their lives went wrong.

Cut to school: after class, New Kid Brayden reads the minds of the kids around him, mostly criticizing him for being strange. Dion and his buds friend-up to him: "I know how hard it is being the new kid." They ask him to audition for the school musical.

Scene 5: Out in the hall, Crooked Man tells Brayden to "get him alone!", so he asks Dion for a tour of the school. BFF Jonathan wants to come, too, but Brayden mind controls him into agreeing that it should just be the two of them.

They walk down a deserted hallway. Dion asks Brayden why he moved to Atlanta. "To find you." I don't think he means "we were meant to be together."

Crooked Man smokes out of Brayden and tries to grab Dion, but fails.

Scene 6: After school. Mom arrives to pick up Dion, but Esperanza stalls her, and at the crater, BFF Jonathan stalls the hazmat guy, so Dion can zap down and investigate. It's got glowing purple flowers with undulating stamens that reach out for him -- ulp, time to zap away!

Scene 7: At the Bio Institute, while Dion is changing into his superhero-workout clothes, his trainer Tevin asks Mom out. I'll skip the Mom and Patrick plots. Actually, they take a while. I guess child stars can't work a lot of hours.

Scene 8: Brayden at home -- he lives by himself -- eating pizza. He criticizes the Crooked Man smoke-monster for trying to attack Dion, when he wasn't strong enough. "Well, he was just so close, and I couldn't help it." Crooked Man is not quite as scary when he whines to a little kid.

Next criticism: "Why are you using the weird flowers to build an army? Why can't you kill Dion all by yourself, you wimp?" Crooked Man doesn't answer; he just complements Brayden: "You're making me stronger. Soon I will be ready."

Next: when the job is done, will Crooked Man abandon Brayden? "No, I'll keep you with me." Ten to one he's lying.

Scene 8: Dion in his room, reading comic books. Why is there a map of Scandinavia on his wall? Suddenly Brayden appears! He explains: "I'm not actually in your room, I'm in your head. I have powers, too." While Dion stares, he says "I think we're going to be best friends." Uh-oh, that sounds sinister. The end.

The Dion plot is a little thin, so lI'll add a scene from the next episode:

The Musical Auditions: Dion's main friends and Brayden compete for Dion's attention. Brayden uses his superpowers to zap the two of them into a field (a boring field? How about Disney World?). But Dion still chooses his main friends. Brayden roils with jealousy.

The femme diector, Mr. Kwame (J. Harrison Ghee, who won a Tony for his role in Some Like It Hot ), uses the opening of Fame: "you got big dreams? You want fame? Well, fame costs, and here's where you start paying -- in sweat!" This is a fourth grade musical review, not Broadway!

Ulp, all of the kids sing "Oh, Susannah!" Badly! "Fosse, forgive me!" Mr. Kwame cries. Then Esperanza does a mesmerizing performance of "Beautiful Dreamer."

Jonathan doesn't audition; he uses pyrotechnics and confetti cannons to push for the job of stage manager. The end.

Beefcake: None, but I included the butts of Jason Ritter and Rome Flynn after the break.

Heterosexism: Just among the adults. I researched the series, and none of the kids is involved in a heterosexual romance.

Gay Characters: One scene implying that Dion is gay. There are probably hints in other episodes, too, but I doubt they go beyond.

According to AfterEllen, Mom's sister Kat gets a "surprise! she's a lesbian" moment that is never referenced again. There are rainbow posters around the school, but I can't read what they say.

Gay Subtext: Dion and Brayden have a kid version of a toxic romantic relationship, complete with gaslight, blaming, and abuse. Nothing with Dion and Jonathan in this episode.

My Grade: Esperanza steals every scene, and Jonathan is amazing as a pre-teen operator. Dion is the morose, troubled Peter Parker type. Mom is definitely over protective. Kid plotline: A-.

Overall, this seems to be Mom's story, about the problems of raising a "special needs" kid and dealing with the season's Big Bad. Grown-up plotline: C+.

summary: sam takes nora to practice for the day, but she has an accident when left alone

“OH, NORA!”

“hey buggy!” sam walked into the change rooms that morning, nora on her hip. she had already grabbed everyone’s attention. alanna and mackenzie shouting out to their little niece.

“aunny’ mac!” nora pushed away from sam and tried to jump into mackenzie’s arms. sam pulled her head away from her daughter’s flapping lims, helping her into macca’s hold.

“my bug!” she smiled, kissing nora’s cheek.

“what about aunty lana?” alanna came up next to mac, holding her arms out to her niece. mac kept hold of nora whilst she leant out to give her ‘aunny lana’ a big cuddle. alanna cooed as she held nora.

“you watching training today?” mackenzie brought nora back onto her hip properly. sam smiled, watching her daughter interact with her teammates.

“my mummy is not feeling well” nora shook her head, a little pout on her lips. the day that she was supposed to spend with mummy, had been shifted to a day at mum’s work.

“oh no” alanna frowned looking over to sam, “that’s no good”.

“so you’ve come with mum to work, huh?” mac asked with a smile.

“yeah!” nora grinned.

“lucky you!” mac took a finger to nora’s belly, tickling her to hear her laugh.

“good morning nora!” tony said as he made his way quickly around the room.

“hi!” she shouted back, not yet knowing how to control her volume dial.

“we start in ten, okay girls?” tony looked at his keeper and defender, then to his skipper. they all nodded. tony was always good whenever nora needed to come to practice, always happy to accommodate for her. he was just a big teddy bear when it came to his girls’ kids. harper, nora and harley had him wrapped around their fingers.

“well, hello miss kerr” katrina walked into the change room, shocked to see nora there.

“kat! is harper here?” nora smiled, wanting to play with her friend.

“harper isn’t here today, she’s at home” kat pouted, copying the sad look on nora’s face. “i’m sorry, we’ll have you around soon for a sleepover?” kat asked, putting her bag down in her cubby.

“yeah” nora nodded in response.

“perfect” katrina smiled before going over to chat with alex.

“alright c’mere you” sam smiled softly, taking nora back from macca. nora instantly leant her head on sam’s shoulder. she was just obsessed with her mum, always happy to spend the day at work watching her mum.

sam put nora down on the bench in front of her cubby, quickly throwing on her training shirt and lacing up her boots. nora chatted with other players who came over to say hi to her, mary and her dancing to some song sam didn’t know the name of. soon enough, the girls were heading out onto the pitch, nora in sam’s arms.

“you gonna be good for mum?” sam found a nice spot for nora in the players section, some of the trainers setting up for prac. nora nodded, shuffling in her spot.

she quickly pulled out some sunscreen that she packed and slathered it on nora’s little face. she squirmed as the cool liquid seeped into her skin, but she knew how much her mum and mummy went on about protecting her skin, so she didn’t complain.

“good girl,” sam smiled as she put the sunscreen away, before taking off nora’s little hoodie- the weather too hot for it. sam smiled as she looked at her daughter’s little outfit, a shirt and bike shorts. she always felt a sense of pride whenever she dressed nora in a cute little outfit.

“hi nora” sam looked up to see who had come over to say hello. standing over the two of them was ash from the media team.

“can you say hi to ash?” sam looked up to ash before turning to look at nora again.

“hi,” nora was quiet, but not rude. she always started off this way.

“ash is gonna sit with you while mum trains, she takes pictures for us on her big camera” sam pointed up to ash, who had her camera hanging off the strap around her neck. “i’m gonna be right over there, okay? after i finish we can go inside and have some food while mum talks with everyone,” sam took nora’s backpack off of her shoulder and put it next to her.

“mhm”

“sound good?” sam raised her eyebrows.

“yup” nora smile.

“good girl, stay here okay?” sam unzipped the little pink backpack and pulled out her little pencil case and book.“i’ve got your colouring book,” sam put it down in front of her, before leaning down to give nora a kiss on the head. “i love you, i’ll see you after” she smiled.

“bye mum!” nora called as sam began to jog into the huddle.

“bye buggy!” she called back a big grin on her face, waving to her daughter. ash made sure to snap a picture of that.

it wasn’t ash’s fault entirely that nora went unchecked during training. she was so quiet and whenever ash did check on her, she was just met with a small smile and a nod. so ash went out pitch side to get some more shots.

when ash was gone, nora looked up for her to ask her to take her down to the bathroom. she had been potty training with her mums for the last month or so and had been trying her best to get better as recognising when she needed to go. but, she was left alone. ash was out snapping pictures, the trainers were out with the girls. nora had no one to ask. she looked for her mum in the crowd of people, but found her talking to everyone. so she couldn’t go out and ask for her.

nora swayed in her spot, really needing to go pee. she thought about going inside and looking for someone, but her mum told her to stay here. so that’s what she did; and by the time ash came back over, nora had already had an accident.

training ended not soon after, sam spoke to the girls once more before jogging back over to her little girl. “ready to go inside, bug?” sam panted, taking a sip from her water bottle. sam furrowed her brow when nora didn’t look up at her, only held her book close to her body. “bug?” sam asked again, crouching down to her height, “what’s happened?” sam looked over to ash.

“i’m not sure, she hasn’t said anything” ash shrugged, worried for the toddler.

“hey, nora” sam whispered. nora kept looking down at the grass, ignoring her mum. sam reached out to feel nora for a temperature, “what’s up? you feeling okay?”. but she felt fine. sam tutted as she watched as nora began to cry, “no buggy, why are you crying? c’mere”. she reached out for her daughter, to pull her into her arms.

“no! no, no mum” nora cried.

“nora, what are you-“ sam cut herself off as she realised nora had wet herself, “oh, baby” sam sighed, kissing her forehead. nora sobbed into her mums arms, embarrassed of the fact she had an accident. alanna noticed the crying toddler and came over to see what was happening.

“what’s happening buggy? what’s wrong?” she asked, putting her hand on her back.

“she’s had an accident,” sam whispered. alanna’s heart broke seeing how upset she was. she quickly pulled her training hoodie off from around her waist and wrapped it around nora’s back to cover her up.

“awh, nora” alanna patted her back.

“hey, it’s okay” sam pulled back so she could look at her daughter, “it’s okay. mum packed other clothes remember? it’s okay”. sam took the bottom of her jersey and wiped nora’s eyes and nose from where she had been crying. “we’ve got your tillies shorts in here!” sam exclaimed, as alanna grabbed nora’s backpack and book from the grass. “we’ll get you changed and you can dress like mum and aunty lana?” sam raised her eyebrows, knowing that nora loved matching with her mum. she nodded tearfully, a big pout on her face as she cried, “oh nora, it’s okay” sam gave her another kiss before starting to walk her inside.

“i didn’t know where to go” nora cried.

“why didn’t you ask someone?” sam bounced nora as she walked through the tunnel, towards the bathroom. “ash would’ve taken you, bug” sam knew it wasn’t ash’s fault that nora had an accident, nora was shy and struggled to ask to go to the bathroom in public anyway, let alone to ask a stranger.

“she was busy” nora nuzzled her head into sam’s neck. sam rubbed her thumb over nora’s hot face, her little cheeks flushed from crying so hard.

“awh, darlin’” sam chuckled sadly, rocking her back and forth. “i’m sorry babe” she said, “next time you call out to mum, yeah? i’ll take you”.

“you were working” nora sniffed, finally calming down.

“it’s alright bug, mum’s gonna fix it” alanna pouted at nora, brushing a stray piece of hair out of her face.

“come on, bug” sam pushed open the doors to the bathroom with her back, alanna following them in with nora’s things. “we’ll change you and call mummy? see how she’s feeling” nora sniffed and nodded solemnly at the mention of her mummy.

alanna pulled down the change table for sam and rested nora’s backpack on top of it, before giving nora a little kiss goodbye on the head. “yeah, let’s do that” sam agreed, grabbing out nora’s little jersey and shorts to change into. “i love you bug” she whispered.

“i love you, mum”

ABOUT

Asher's childhood memories are littered with violence, but he knows that doesn't exactly make him special especially not when he's a Cross. Ash accepted it as a way of life much like his father, mother, brother and the rest of their family. And while resentment has lodged itself in his heart towards his grandfather, during the current warzone of the world he feels grateful for some of the lessons Jeffrey forced upon him. Like any Cross, violence is a way of life and so Asher doesn't ever run from a fight. He's not as quick to throw the first punch like his brother is, Ash is better at being the strategist than anything else. He has a more tense atmosphere than Axe too, usually the Cross with the dry wit and sarcasm even when nothing is or should be funny.

Growing up, Axe and Ash were always at each other's throats in the most brotherly way possible. Even today, the twins squabble and physically fight but when all is said and done they are brothers and always will be. While Axe was the outwardly violent brother, Ash caused a trail of destruction in different ways. He was a heart breaker through and through, never loyal to anybody except his family. Despite chaos following Ash around, he always responded to it in a similar Cross fashion. With a charming smile, a shrug and a what can ya do expression on his face. Ever aloof, not much seems to bother Ash- not even consequences to his own actions. Sometimes, he openly admits that he was fully aware of them when choosing his actions to begin with so accepts them with open arms and a shit-eating grin.

Duty is a big theme in Asher's life and personality. He was taught from a young age to listen closely to his parents because at the end of the day, it could save his life. Now, it's ingrained within him so strongly that he can follow orders to the T. Nothing his family can ask of him is too big or small, he will be right there whenever needed. Being only nineteen when the war began, Asher was also shaped by a new form of survival. Ironically, Jeffrey's brutal pack mentality has served him well over the passing years and allowed him to become a soldier within recent months.

Depending on the day, Ash can be more like his mother or father. He can be supportive, quick-witted and head-strong like Kat or stoic and merciless like his father. Most of the time he's the perfect medium of the two, making him a tough nut to crack and a harder book to read. He's mainly sociable with his family, knowing he is understood by his pack members the most. The rest of the town get a blank stare, a frown but a curt nod in response to anything that's needed to be done.

With the pack now under the leadership of Wolf, Ash is welcoming the slow rolling changes with open arms. He also knows it will take a long time to undo decades of conditioning but it's the first time he's ever felt hopeful that the Cross name, in future generations, will look different. If old ideals have to die with him, Ash is okay with that too. Because above all else, he loves his family and Ash has always accepted anything thrown his way.

Prompting TikTok users to ask “Is your dog part otter?” the hilarious video shows the pup appearing to slither across a soft carpet to wipe his snout.

Animal experts say that dogs will often roll around and rub themselves ono a carpet to satisfy an itch, or to cover up or pick up a scent from the carpet.

Dog trainer at Pup Talk and author of STOP Walking Your Dog Niki French told Newsweek: “There are a few reasons why dogs wipe their snouts on the ground. I think for a lot of dogs this just feels good. This wiredhaired dachshund is super cute as he’s going straight towards whoever is holding the phone. My dog does it on grass in the morning, normally followed by rolling on his back and wriggling like a pony. It’s a happy behavior for him.”

Ammo’s owner Kat, who lives with her beloved pup in Wisconsin told Newsweek: “He does do the snake move often. Or if there isn’t space (or he’s too comfortable to move) he will rub his chin on soft things and push his head under anything made of fabric. It seems to be triggered when he eats something he finds particularly delicious.”

The American Kennel Club (AKC) characterizes the dachshund as curious, friendly and spunky. With their famously low silhouette and alert expression, the breed ranks at number 10 when it comes to popularity in the U.S.

With three coat types, smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired, they were bred to be independent hunters of prey and are known for their “big-dog bark” and bravery.

Moderate shedders, the wirehaired dachshund requires plucking or hand-stripping of their iconic coat several times a year to look their best—but are generally easy to maintain with brushing once or twice a week.

The stand-out viral video has delighted internet users around the world and they shared their reactions to the video on TikTok and Reddit.

“Aww, a real-life dog snek!” said one viewer, while another Redditor dubbed the animal a “carpet snake.”

“I happened to be laying on the floor watching Ammo rub his face and he did that snake move right to me, brightening my day instantly,” said Kat. “So I figured other people might need some of his love and attention too.”

“Dogs can do this after eating or sniffing through wet grass, said French. “Dogs can want to clean or wipe their muzzles and a carpet or rug is ideal for this.”

“They can also want to leave their scent behind; they have scent glands in their face. Or they’re enjoying something particularly stinky like an animal carcass or poop and want to spread it around.

“It could be they’re itchy due to allergies or parasites. If the nose wiping is excessive or there is any red or irritated patches, I definitely recommend a vet check.”

“I bet he can power a light bulb with all that friction,” joked another viewer of the video.

Ammo is not the only canine to leave the internet in stitches recently, one puppy’s hilarious reaction to being recorded melting hearts this week when he was “not impressed.” Elsewhere, a Great Dane was filmed proving that he was completely unaware of his huge size as he tried to sit on a tiny bed and was awarded an “A for effort.”

Other amused viewers of the pooch dubbed “carpet snake” fell in love with the pup.

“Not even mine but I would die for this dog. It’s so damn cute,” said one Redditor.
