What if we're just a little off the mark, when it comes to Ianthe's goals? It does seem like she's trying to become god. Studying resurrection theory, energy transfers, trying to replicate John's stasis trick on those apples. But Ianthe has always either shied from or been denied the spotlight. And the path she's on starts with her specialising in Resurrection theory.
What was the Resurrection, other than the obvious? It was the first recorded act in history, the beginning of necromancy. Why would a girl playing power double for her non-adept sister want to learn the secrets of the Resurrection? Well, there are plenty of reasons, but one that comes to mind is to learn how to make someone a necromancer who isn't. The first necromancer had to have gained the power somehow, right? Can you control who is and isn't a necromancer, if you're willing to pay the price? And then there was the conversation between Coronabeth and Judith, where they as much as said Corona could be king, but for the lack of job openings.
Whether she knows it yet or not, I suspect Ianthe's long-term plans are bending toward making Coronabeth god. All because she didn't want to keep doing her sister's homework.

Jod vs The Collector who would win
I actually exhaled a soft but excited ''OH MY STARS"
I very much want to say The Collector. I very much HOPE it's The Collector. Kick Jod's Ass For Us All, Please.
Let me think more like viciously overanalyze...
Jod has canonically been absolutely DISINTEGRATED and was able to re-integrate after being turned into pinkish mist. That's FREAKY powerful.
The Collector probably has similar abilities because he had to be imprisoned (and fan theorists think he's been imprisoned at least once before), indicating he probably Cannot Be Killed by regular mortal means.
But like. The Collector WAS imprisoned. In BOE (I'm sure there are canonical details I've missed, but I'm pretty sure they have existed in opposition to Jod for 10k years), nobody has figured out how to stop Jod. Or even, from what I can tell, slow him down. (If As Yet Unsent is anything to go by, this might be out of a refusal to engage with and learn about necromancy moreso than a lack of weaknesses on Jod's part.)
Jod has his armies, which are loyal to-the-death. Somebody nearly died just to put a ghost ward on his ship. Willingly. Didn't even bother to say "Someone help me", just. Totally accepted dying in the service of This God. Could Jod "phone a friend" and get his Lyctors/etc. to join the fight?
But on the other hand, Jod hides from the Heralds and needs his Lyctors to fight the Resurrection Beasts.
Doesn't he say it would be the end of Dominicus if he were driven crazy? Could The Collector, theoretically, do something that causes this?
Apparently The Collector helped slay Titans (if not did it entirely on his own). I feel like The Collector could take a RB single-handedly, which is not something Jod can do. Especially since, if I may extrapolate wildly here, I'm thinking The Collector's greatest powers could be over celestial things! (Being "a child of the stars"? So like, Power Over Planet Souls too, maybe?)
I wonder if, to match Jod and his armies, The Collector could get the remaining Resurrection Beasts on HIS team. That would probably screw Jod over pretty hard.
Jod powers the entire thanergetic solar system (or at the very least, the sun), but The Collector "boop"ed away an entire solar eclipse. I'm thinking The Collector could mess up the celestial forces that keep the planets working in his favor? But that seems like it'd be more of a concern for necromancers helping Jod than the false God himself.
If The Collector could corner Jod somewhere he'd be without thanergy, I wonder how Jod's necromancy would fare...
But we don't know just HOW MUCH a "perfect" Lyctorhood with A.L can power him if there's no "death juice" to "suck up", to use Gideon's words! Jod's Lyctors seemed able to use necromancy just fine without being in thanergetic environments...
But then, what happens if Jod is somehow made Not a Lyctor? Would The Collector be able to break Jod's "Perfect Lyctorhood" with her if he did to Alecto what he did to Muck Monster Belos? (Sidenote: Can this be done? Does she also have immense Lyctorhood-based necromantic abilities? Alecto the Ninth, hurry on your way!)
The Collector's power seems innate, not built up or based on something. That's definitely a point in his favor.
How long, exactly, has The Collector existed? Because Jod has been around for millennia. He probably didn't take Cohort meetings very seriously if he was eating peanuts and saying "What do I know, I'm only God" during them, which indicates he was probably arguing with the Combat Experts. But 10k years is a LONG time to (potentially, if he's willing to get over himself and Learn From Mistakes) learn how to kill something powerful.
I'm inclined to give the fight to The Collector, just because, from what we know, he didn't seem to need to link up to any other power source. Jod's Lyctorhood could be exploited as a weak point, and though I'm certain it's due to time constraints moreso than lack of extant lore, I feel like The Collector doesn't have any such weak points he could figure out how to exploit.
The "Plot Twist" ending would be them teaming up for some reason. The Collector probably wouldn't strike a deal with him after the way his deal with Belos went down...
Followers, tag-dwellers: comments? (If there exist anyone else amidst you who happen to be in this very specific intersection of fandoms!)

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender
I got 10 pages worth of thoughts during my initial watch through of the new Netflix Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender series.
A number of things I can incorporate into Golden Wolf Warrior and Wanted.
This is all I have to say without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Overall I enjoyed it for what it is, currently with mixed feelings while the initial watch marinates in my brain, but I enjoyed it and worth the watch.
So many things running through my head including my fics. Bye! Enjoy watching it if you're able to and want to watch it!

Alright so I wanted to keep it an intrigue but I realised that I want to redraw it anyway, so there is no point in not-sharing the old version.
So, basically, I have an AU story (post-canon one, so beware spoilers) that I wanted to develop for a really, really long time. It is about Nyang running away with Ayu and Taltal after the revolt. They plan to go into hiding and wait for things to calm down, survive and possibly return. However, they did not know that the ghosts of the long (or not so long) gone characters are watching them from the afterlife.
Finally, after suffering for 4 years or so, I decided to give this idea a realisation and make it into a comic. Idk if it will cover everything that I planned but at least there will be something, which is good^^
Here are first two pages of the story (probably with grammar mistakes and awkwardly drawn, I WILL REDRAW THEM once I get more comfortable with the characters). I just tested my determination xD
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
SO yes I just teased and will stop until I manage to get used to the characters and they start to resemble themselves more in my style xD aaand the second version will be better! Pinky promise!
And yes, it will be TalNyang one, but slowslowburn and quite focused on the ghosts stuff (at least I want it to be, but you never know me)

So what ability ayu and wira have when dealing with supernatural entity
Ayu is still spoilers so I'll do Wira
Wira has a mystic object (extensions of the soul in the form of weapons to protect from evil. Exclusive towards humans and human hybrids) and also Hybrid powers. Both his mystic object and hybrid powers do overlap so consider it one and the same set
Wira has the power to summon and control water. The water can be used for offense and defense. The water has healing properties towards non-hostiles, but may have some damaging effects towards demonic enemies. The water can be reshaped into the form of a large river or large snake for a special move.
Aside from that, his mystic object is a Palembang Keris which helps him have better control over his water power, specifically when he needs to be precise or in small areas. And it also helps with finishing blows towards demons and other hostile entities.
Wira's healing ability is amongst the best in the world and oftentimes he is called to assist as a support that attacks enemies and heals teammates.
His weakness is, the more he uses his power, the more he uses spiritual energy. If he runs out of spiritual energy, he will be tired and pass out.

Ok ok ok I have been leaning towards Nona is Alecto for a while now, because I think the clues and dots that tazmuir has left for us pretty strongly lead that way (and I don’t think she’s the kind of writer who would see us all picking up on the foreshadowing she’s laying down and then change it so there’s a “twist”). But also I am a big Nona is Alecto truther because i really want the following events to transpire: John, now knowing that Gideon exists and grew up with Harrow, now might lend a little more credence to Harrows confession to him that she opened the tomb, and will go there himself (probably with ianthes) to see & will find that yes it is open, but hey look actually it’s Harrow in Alecto’s body!! Freaky Friday body swapping comedy ensues 😂 (and of course, there is still a third body in play for this comedy, because Our Girl Gideon is still out there presumably with BoE).
I've been thinking about that too!! Like, now he knows that Harrow could have opened the Tomb, is he going to go and check? Oh man, but what would he even do if he found the Tomb opened, the Body still there, and then woke her up to find out.... it's Harrow?? What the fuck?? But if Harrow is here.... and the Tomb has been open for years.... where is Alecto? (Jump cut to Nona trying to eat french fries right out of the fryer while Camilla smacks her hands)
And poor Harrow is so totally out of the loop. The last thing she knew, her sibling lyctors were preparing to fight Number Seven while she quietly ceded her body to whatever was occupying it in the hope that it was Gideon. She missed Mercy's murder, Augustine's gambit, the whole explanation about perfect lyctorhood and Alecto's relationship with John. She knows nothing, and she's back on the Ninth occupying the body she's been worshiping for almost half her life. John could tell her anything had happened while she was out, and she'd believe him.
If we wanted to get really freaky, this is when Anastasia would show up possessing Pelleamena's corpse. And what's that?? Wake's skeleton with the steel chair!

Who was she through all those years?
============= Other Info
Lonehouse is a Texture game, submitted to the 2023 Edition of the IFComp.
Status: Completed Genre: Slice-of-life
CW: Topics of death and grief
============= Playthrough
Played: 2-Oct-2023 Playtime: around 10min Rating: - [IFComp vote] Thoughts: Sorting through your feelings...
============= Review
Lonehouse is an emotionally charged piece about facings reality, processing one's grief, and finding ways to remember passed loved ones. The entry feels very personal albeit short. Following the passing of your estranged sister, you find yourself sorting through her belonging, reminiscing about the past, and learning new things about the time spent apart.
Spoilers ahead. It is recommended to play the game first. The review is based on my understanding/reading of the story.
The entry takes you through different rooms of your sister's place, each giving the player the same actions (inspect, move, thing). It feels methodical, as if you had to force yourself going through the things your sister left behind. But, in each room, you discover a special item, triggering a memory or thought - each showing a different facet of the person you (thought you) once knew.
Grief can be a heart breaking and complex feeling, rendered even more complicated when the situation is itself a complicated thing (there's a lot of unsaid things in the entry about how it got to this point). I felt like this entry showed maybe a more detached look to that feeling.

Hmmm I disagree with you about Corona and Judith, but I haven’t read as yet unsent because Judith bores me that much aha….
Basically judging by the main three books, I think they wouldn’t do it because Judith like… she would have relaxed a bit if they had sex and that’s unacceptable in her books… like Judith would not have a relationship with Corona as a form of self harm if you catch my drift. so judging by that alone the sex would have been nice? Idk. Maybe I’m that impressed with Corona’s boobs who knows
But yeah Harrow and Gideon would have had wonderful sex and even Gideons pornographic education wouldn’t stand in their way because Gideon is also very good at following directions. Like the whole “don’t speak to anyone” and Gideon not speaking to anyone? They would have had wonderful sex
As Yet Unsent is REALLY good! It's less about Judith than it is about worldbuilding details, BoE and [spoiler character] but yeah, it's also about Judith.
(Some AYU spoilers ahead) The narration makes it clear that Judith is clearly really super into Corona, but also it doesn't mention Ianthe once—like, Judith talks about Corona all the time but doesn't seem to take into account at all the codependent twin that's like a good 30% of Corona's personality (at least!) and IMO it really reads like Judith has very little idea of who Corona is as a person. I mean, we readers don't do either because she's such an enigmatic character. On the other hand, Corona likes unattainable people that she can never have because she can project on them—in AYU she's really really into the idea of devoting herself to Judith more than she seems to be about Judith herself, so I can't help but see her attitude in NtN as an extension of that.
tldr, I think if they had sex it would be whatever. But Judith would expect it to be a life-changing experience because she built up Corona in her mind, and Corona IMO would lose all interest once Judith stops being an ideal and becomes a person, so they'd end up pretty disappointed, like, mid-fuck. Corona's boobs are nice though.
Like the whole “don’t speak to anyone” and Gideon not speaking to anyone?
yOU GET IT. YOU REALLY GET IT. SHE JUST WANTS HARROW. AND HAS A CANONICAL PRAISE KINK. YEAH

SPOILERS FOR GIDEON THE NINTH, HARROW THE NINTH, AND AS YET UNSENT
in gtn, teacher warns Silas against siphoning Colum because any ghost or spirit could take over his empty body (and then we saw how terrifying that could be!). in htn, Mercy justifies her instant-kill policy to harrow by stating how bad it would be if a ghost took over a vacant lyctor's body.
well, guess whose unkillable body has been left vacant and unrotting for like a year now?
my last minute prediction for ntn/atn is that something horrible is going to take over Gideon's corpse. i think it stayed empty for so long because it was with BoE on what seem to be still living thalergy planets where there probably aren't any ghosts around. but if i understand what Mercy says in ayu correctly (she mentions the stele/Gorgon is for an "extraction mission" and mocks them for thinking of "marching on the Mithraeum" so i think BoE"s intent was to use the gorgon to either extract wakes ghost or wake in harrows body from the mithraeum), then it's possible BoE brought Gideon's empty corpse into the river with them when they picked up Pyrrha/soon-to-be Nona. and there's a lot of angry ghosts in the river... so i think either a ghost got into it, or maybe another spirit (wake? the body? g1deon? John?? number seven??? who knows?) did. but i expect something going on there.
i could be misreading the foreshadowing with what Mercy's saying (it might be foreshadowing for Nona getting into Harrow's empty lyctor body or even just wakes takeover attempt). but i want to see some freaky possession shit.

Review #32: Hello, Green Days
Tumblr media
Japanese title: ハロー、グリーンデイズ (Hello, Green Days)
Story and art: Ayu Sakumoto
Number of volumes: 1 in Japanese (complete)
A blossoming romance between two opposites.
(This review contains story spoilers.)
One trope that I’ve gradually realized that I’m a sucker for is the main couple comforting each other. In hindsight, it should’ve been obvious with Our Dining Table being my favorite manga so far and Koimonogatari being one of the titles right behind it, but I find something really powerful in how two characters can find solace in each other. It definitely makes their eventual relationship more solid for me as they’ve established this emotional trust.
It takes a while for Hello, Green Days to get to that point, and I admittedly initially thought that the one-sidedness of the comforting for a bulk of the story was to its detriment, but the story really proved me wrong by the end. In its defense, though, Mikage really deserves that comforting after everything he’s been through. The very first thing we find out about Mikage - aside from his age and the fact that he’s a botany major - is that he was ridiculed back in junior high school for confessing to another guy. The trauma from this incident was enough for Mikage to give up on romance altogether, pushing himself to seclusion for the eight years that followed.
Tumblr media
Of course, that’s upended by the other lead character of the series - Nanahoshi, a younger student who participates in the seminar held by the professor Mikage is assisting. I sort-of bent the truth in the previous paragraph, as the actual first thing we find out about Mikage is how Nanahoshi likes him - the very first page of the manga features a glimpse into the confession. It’s an interesting choice to start the story with this scene with a promise of coming back to it later, as even if you already expect the two leads to get together, it recontextualizes the subsequent events and revelations as building up to this confession rather than establishing the relationship.
Turns out, we don’t have to wait that long, as the confession happens at the end of the first chapter. But that doesn’t mean that the events leading up to it were rushed - as a matter of fact, quite a lot happens in the first chapter before this confession. One of the main things is how Mikage notices that Nanahoshi is struggling to make ends meet, so he offers Nanahoshi to move into his dorm so that they can split the rent and reduce costs. We find out that part of Mikage’s seclusion led him to decide to live alone, so this offer is as much of a huge deal for him as it is to Nanahoshi.
We also get the first instance of one of my favorite things about this manga - Mikage’s plant talk. When we first get a glimpse of Mikage’s room, we find it surrounded with plants, and while that’s partly because of him being a botany student, we also get a sense that this is part of Mikage’s ways to deal with his solitude - Nanahoshi even brings up later on how Mikage is fond of talking to his plants. In any case, since Nanahoshi is helping out Mikage in taking care of the plants, the latter takes it as an opportunity to educate Nanahoshi about them and how to properly care for them. And, expectedly, the manga uses these monologues as parallels to what’s going on in the main story.
My favorite instance of this is in the second chapter, where Nanahoshi asks Mikage about the shameplant - the one that closes its leaves whenever you touch them. Mikage explains that one of the leading theories as to why this happens is because the plant wants to protect itself from being eaten by animals, and the chapter uses this as a parallel to how uncomfortable Mikage is about his newfound relationship with Nanahoshi. Just like the shameplant, Mikage seems to retreat to his shell when Nanahoshi makes any advances to him, but he recognizes that he needs to break out of that shell if he wants the relationship to work out.
Tumblr media
This naturally leads to a plot point about intimacy, and when Nanahoshi is shown to want to take things further, Mikage says he isn’t ready. While this expectedly causes Nanahoshi to take a step back and be more careful around Mikage - much to the latter’s dismay - what I didn’t expect was how this would be the catalyst to Nanahoshi’s backstory.
An unfortunate incident in high school involving him using his martial arts skills in the wrong place and time comes crashing down on him, and he’s seen to be left aimless and directionless until he happened to go on a university visit for his prospects. We find out that it’s here where he actually meets Mikage for the first time, though not to the botany student’s knowledge - Nanahoshi just so happens to see him in a greenhouse talking to plants and being in his element. He gets his drive back from this one-way interaction alone, studying hard to get accepted in that university even without the guarantee that he’ll be able to meet Mikage. While at my first read I thought this was a bit shallow and too convenient, I did realize afterwards that someone at rock bottom like Nanahoshi at that point can get motivation in the most unexpected places, and if that just so happens to be from someone talking to plants, then I’m glad he was able to find it.
It’s also by this point that we get to see just how Mikage’s able to “comfort” Nanahoshi even without the former even knowing it. Not only did Mikage pull Nanahoshi out of his funk, but he had also given him something new to work toward, and Nanahoshi credits all of his progress to Mikage’s kindness and passion. This understandably makes Mikage flustered - we even see a small sequence of him as a young boy already being interested in plants, and we get the sense that this is Mikage realizing that his "weird obsession" since he was a kid was all worth it.
There’s one other plot point I really want to talk about here - Mikage running into one of his former bullies. The story’s final chapter sees Mikage attending an academic conference with his professor, and one of the people running the registration booth just so happens to be one of his former classmates who ridiculed Mikage for confessing to another guy. While they start with exchanging pleasantries, Mikage is expectedly uncomfortable with the whole situation, and he’s saved from having to deal with the bully bringing back those memories by his professor calling him over.
I was a bit wary with what they were going to do with this plot point when it was teased at the end of the penultimate chapter. On one hand, I’m not a fan of the whole “forgiving bullies” trope as it’s often done very lazily. But on the other hand, I wasn’t expecting the story to come back to the very first scene like this - those kinds of tragic backstories usually just serve as characterization fuel rather than plot fuel - so I was interested in how the story was going to handle this.
Thankfully, the story does avoid any of the common pitfalls of dealing with bully characters. Not only is the forgiveness quite bumpy - while we do get that the bully is genuinely sorry for hurting Mikage’s feelings, he still has his own biases about homosexuality in general - but the resolution we get isn’t that Mikage is now on good terms with the bully. Rather, we see Mikage taking a very important step toward moving on from that incident and accepting it for what it is, and that’s a billion times better than whatever other resolution involving the bully we can possibly get.
Tumblr media
And, of course, Mikage credits that to Nanahoshi’s presence in his life - he even outright says that it’s because of Nanahoshi that he’s able to save himself from dwelling on his conversation with his bully too much and letting it weigh him down. I’m not surprised that it’s this instance that breaks the intimacy barrier for Mikage, and while it does take a few more months for Nanahoshi to break his own barrier, it does show that they’ll be alright, despite all the baggage that they’re lugging behind them.
I didn’t expect to say this much for a story as short as Hello, Green Days - it’s only five chapters long + a bonus chapter of what happens next - but I’m amazed at how it’s able to pull all of this off despite its length. There are definitely plot points that I think could’ve benefited from this story being longer - Nanahoshi’s relationship with his family is the biggest one for me - but for what it is, it’s an incredibly sweet and comforting read.
Random thoughts that I couldn’t fit elsewhere:
One of my favorite scenes here is when Mikage talks to his professor about how he can be jealous of plants, specifically in how they don’t seem to need to worry about anything. It comes as no surprise that the professor counters this quite methodically, saying that plants don’t “worry” because they don’t have the same type of brain as humans do, but if they did, they would constantly be worried about the environment around them. It might not be as uplifting as normal relationship advice, but it does steer Mikage in the right direction in terms of handling his worries about his relationship - and it’s yet another reason why the whole plant theme running through the manga is such a good way of giving the plot a unique flavor.
This is one of a handful of titles I’ve covered for this project where the story doesn’t really give that much space to characters outside of the two leads - the professor and the former bully are really the only other ones with prominent lines, and even they don’t get that much. While I would’ve liked to see more dynamics outside of the main relationship, I do understand this decision, seeing as the story is told from Mikage’s point of view - who had already decided to seclude himself from the rest of the world by the start of the first chapter.
One thing I didn’t expect is for the last bit of plot we see in the story - at least, the last scene of the bonus chapter - to be about Nanahoshi’s relationship with his family. I mentioned above that this was one plot point I thought could’ve been expanded on if this story was longer, but what we did get here is a fantastic way to wrap it up. After eating corn that Nanahoshi grew for breakfast, Mikage suggests sending some of the corn back to Nanahoshi’s family so that they could see that he’s doing well. Nanahoshi’s taken aback by the suggestion, but before Mikage could worry about how forward he was being, Nanahoshi assures him that it’s a good idea and even thanks him for his concern. It’s these kinds of moments that really make me come back to this manga, as they’re so simple but carry so much weight.
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading! I think Hello, Green Days is one of the titles that I keep rereading the most, and while part of that is because of its short length, I also like how comforting it feels. I really hope it gets an official English physical release soon so that more people find out about it - it’s such a good read!
I’ll post my next review in around a week. I hope you look forward to it!
