The selection of the Swedish Frida Johansson two posts before and its unbelievable almost...100 000 notes (!!!!) is the opportunity for me to speak about a problem. It deserves to be in YWAMag and that’s why it is here. But, without any offense to Frida, a very good Swedish photographer who has often been in the mag for years, it has nothing revolutionary. I’ll take several brilliant photographers who are on Tumblr and who have big YWAMag galleries :
-Me (sorry ! By the way, you haven’t seen me in the mag since a Tumblr change about 4 years ago for a technical reason) : I have never had more than 200 notes or something like that, during my first Tumblr years (2 015, mainly) when I was not boycotted yet especially by Lensblr, so my rare selections there reached that score. My notes’ amount is usually between 25 and 80. I have exhibited about ten times, in 4 capital cities. This to say that Tumblr/web success has nothing to see with real value, and with the stuff you do for your professional work and recognition.
-Peter Solarz (USA) : his Tumblr has started to have success only about three years ago, with some images reaching thousands of notes, always processed nature images. A specific photographer like me, not aiming what is called the extraordinary, but mainly composition and to transcend the things people don’t see.
-Purple Time Space Swamp (USA) : as Peter and me, based on composition. Unknown here and there, except by the mag. Usually has between 0 notes and 5.
-Peter Pollmanns (Dothob, Germany) : comparable to all of us, especially to me and Peter. Brilliant, kind of same notes’ ratio as me. Counter-example : the young Finnish Mila Mai, spectacular landscapes, huge amount of notes, often thousands. Harassed by a young Finnish looney, finally erased her Tumblr and disappeared about three years ago. It seems that she came back with a pseudonym but I couldn’t swear. REM, Murmur and Carnival of Sorts, Live 1 983 (USA)
---
"On this date in 1983, R.E.M. released their debut studio album MURMUR, (April 12, 1983).
NOTE: The video here features RADIO FREE EUROPE from MURMUR and CARNIVAL OF SORTS (the third song on the band's 1982 debut EP Chronic Town)
40 years after its original release, MURMUR is still fascinating in its eerie sense of musical space.
Back in 1983, REM were most often compared to the Byrds, and thanks to Peter Buck's ringing guitar on songs like ‘Talk About The Passion’, ‘Catapult’, or ‘Sitting Still’, along with Michael Stipes' lead vocals over soaring harmonies, it was easy to see why.
But that was merely one influence, and a misleading one at that, because with no one source dominating, R.E.M. faintly recalled a host of mid-'60s L.A. bands from The Leaves to "underground” faves like Kaleidoscope, David Lindley's first band. R.E.M. might have thoroughly transformed their influences but the result sounded both familiar and wholly original.
Murmur's oddness was affecting because it wove itself around structures and riffs that sounded familiar – a strange system hum, for instance, winds itself up into the catchiest opener, RADIO FREE EUROPE.
In these efforts, Buck's guitar solos were capable of breaking through the mix and soaring, and any band that could come up with melodies this rich knew a thing or two about pop music.
The lyrics, however, were a flight of ideas from the mind of a meditative 23-year-old. Trying to unravel them, it still feels as though you're divining the deepest of riddles for meaning.
“Early sessions for the album with Stephen Hague, the synth-pop producer who later worked on New Order's True Faith, were quickly rejected, and American producers Mitch Easter and Don Dixon were brought in instead,” wrote Jude Rogers for Word in 2009.
“They seemed to understand that although REM had the rhythms of rock, the jangle of the Byrds and the raw grit of Gang Of Four in their belly, they also needed to create a sound-world of their own. Easter and Dixon brought in strange noises – bangs and bells — and recorded instruments at varying distances from the microphone, so you couldn't place where the ghostly figures were coming from.”
“At the album's centre point, like a pearl in an oyster, is a song that tells us as much about REM today as the REM that existed a quarter of a century ago. This is 'Perfect Circle', a masterpiece of simple melody and melancholy, and one of the few REM songs to be attributed mainly to the band's former drummer, Bill Berry, who also wrote most of 'Everybody Hurts'.”

What I like about...
Basile Pesso and yeswearemagazine
First of all, I probably would not have any Tumblr followers without Basile. He has an amazing way of searching for interesting photographs and photographers and presenting them in his fantastic yeswearemagazine. He has an unbelievable amount of energy to do this everyday and at such a high level. He brings an incredible amount of personal knowledge in both the history of photography and art to be able to present cutting edge photography and art to the world. He has introduced me to some wonderful artists and has inspired me  to really look and search for my photographic self. Not only is he one of the best curators on Tumblr, he also is a superb photographer, writer and his notes on contemporary music are insightful and fascinating. A true Renaissance man.
This is the start of a new section. I will be adding more in the future.

A Literature Proposal to French Authors
You know, I love some parts of my region (Tennessee, USA), to which I actually moved just because of the pun (Tennessee Williams). I also love, as said in my preamble, so many aspects of my crazy country. Along the years and principally under the influence of Albert Camus, André Malraux, Michel Onfray, André Comte-Sponville, Alexis de Tocqueville, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jean-Paul Sartre and many others, I acquired a real passion for France, in particular the France of which my grand-parents had told me about, as they had lived three years there (in Cahors). I don’t master the language. I can utter some sentences with great efforts, but I really can read and even hear French. On Tumblr, I have enjoyed for years several writers, to whom I’m gonna now make a request : please collaborate and send texts and quotes in French : -Basile Pesso -Romain Meynier -Julia Gustin (Dame de Caro) -Clochards Célestes I will tag you now : @basilepesso ; @romainmeynier ; @damdecaro ; @clochardscelestes. Hi to all, The staff is so incredibly stupid that the new tool they just implemented puts the large white (or black, etc) spaces all around the images even when we reblog in the archives BEFORE their new editor. Precisely this morning I wrote a text, again, to show the difference between for example Lensblr with the new editor and YWAMag. I explained that most of you absolutely don't see the difference, and are not interested in any global and aesthetic view of the curating sites they're selected on. For example, most of you don't see that now the aspect of Lensblr is ridiculous when it was superb before. I don't want this for the mag. This staff is totally obtuse in addition to being politically extremist. Unfortunately, we will now only function by sent images upon request - but you can also propose some images. This will enormously increase the time spent in private messages and I don't really have the time for this - and most of you just want to be reblogged, and don't want to spend time sending images and even answering messages asking them for this or that image. In the last days, again on my main Tumblr (here), I explained why Tumblr is in a problematic financial situation and that they are trying to have a new whore-oriented axis (see on top of our dashboards, for fuck sake ! This is fucking prostitution), coupled to the usual techno changes to "refresh" editors which were perfectly functional - in opposition to this new catastrophic editor. I'm not gonna wait for months for a correct answer from this staff which belongs to a platform that has showed for about 15 years that they were exclusively serving the ultra-left, almost islamist agenda, mixed with high pressure LGBTQ+++++ propaganda - the usual aberrant mix. Therefore, YWAMag will just have a few posts per day - more if you are many to understand the problem and to help make the mag live with the right aesthetics. YWAMag on Tumblr has been a great 8 years daily adventure, with more than 50 000 selections - but stupidity and incompetence are now seriously hindering it.

Little People, Big Art...
I will be less inclined to selecting, highlighting, praising, writing texts, pointing to the YWAMag galleries of the scornful artists. There are two reasons for this hate (cold hate, most of the time, aka passive aggressiveness) : slander, and “anti-racism”, as I am considered by neo-collaborationnists as a “white racist”, which I’m actually not, but having daily worked for about 6 years on crime and terrorism, my fact reports and logical conclusions don’t please those neo-collaborationnists. Yet, the mag is literally full of neo-collabs’. It doesn’t matter, I can’t do otherwise, I just have not to know it or think about this shit.
These little people function by hate and boycott and this is opposed to art. I’m here for art. The Tumblr staff is strictly the same, recruiting on these ideological bases. So, I keep on praising, selecting, etc, just slightly less, for these little people, with big art. Basile Pesso - YWAMag director since 2 014 Nirvana, Serve the Servants

I’m reposting this text without the image that was with it three days ago, and I might do so several times.
Please contact the staff if you're in the described case. It seems to be more than 4 years that this bug has started and almost no one has noticed it. I even see photographers with their Tumblr WITHOUT ANY IMAGE on their blog page (not the board...) but just written “text” in grey circles...they haven’t seen anything for 4 years.
It seems unbelievable but it’s reality.
For the moment, use the sub form to send your best images, or wait for me to ask you specific images.
>>> Please remember that because of a Tumblr bug that almost no ones sees, about half the artists here now systematically post their photos, paintings, etc in “text”.
For almost everyone, reblogging art with large white stripes around is not a problem, but for serious publications it IS a problem. I spoke with a friend and it doesn’t only happen from phones. I never had this on my computer and my wife’s one, so it might be a question of browser, and/or of computer brand. Please talk to the staff so that, about three years after the start of this bug, they do something. The more e-mails they receive, the better they will act. Basile Pesso - YWAMag director since 2 014

I’m interrupting the mag’s morning ritual as I noticed that the remarkable Hungarian/American Zsuzsy Nagy (ZZ A Photo A Day), if she has a huge gallery in the mag, has never been Choice of the Day in spite of the mastery of her gallery. This doesn’t mean anything. The Choice of the Day, yet carefully done, isn’t as precise as it could be. There are holes in the racket ! Basile Pesso - YWAMag director

Everything's Gonna Be Ok.
To briefly keep on after my 4 texts of two days ago that have made run away half of you : I don't wait anything from any of you. I have been trying for ten years to wake you up and THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. Along the years several persons have had the bravery to like some of my texts and fact reports. Globally they haven't been cancelled by the neo-fascists. But who knows ? Have they missed professional opportunities ? France is literally dying. It's now been ten years that many people fear the civil war. Or sometimes hope it, "to end this shit". In June during the riots we have been very close to plunging into civil war. All this has been described by several authors included me in an unfinished novel (Lise) that I had published on Fb slightly before the disappearance of my wife and collaborator. I was particularly proud of this novel, the first one I was about to finish after about 5 unfinished novels. But Anne's disappearance literally cut my wings, on all planes, and obviously the novels' one - except one which hopefully will be published soon -.
Guerre Civile Raciale by Guillaume Faye and the Guerilla series by Laurent Obertone are the two novels/saga that describe what could happen. OBVIOUSLY they have been described by neo-collaboration as "far-right". But the facts are here. Barbarian, each day. Boroughs ravaged by drug deal, gun violence, often kalachnikov one, street rapes, street assaults, murders, burglaries, assassinations, diverse stealings and vandalisms, kidnappings, forced prostitution often upon minors.
Migrants high in this lovely prize list but the invasion HAS to go on and if we protest we're "racists". It's not only France but as said two days ago this is the eye of the cyclone. Don't worry. We're here for art. I know. Basile Pesso - YWAMag director Placebo, I know
P.S : and OBVIOUSLY, the only reactions I get are unfollowings. I told you, it's been ten years that I have been knowing you.

When they hear these massive facts (see my two previous texts), "leftists" attack the people who raise up against these facts, especially the ones who get to conclusions about the management of immigration. Their extremely little brain, yet efficient in many other parts of their life, is unable to get that yes, immigration is manageable and that the barbarism problem can be drastically reduced - or, let's dream, stopped, or almost. So, when they see someone really raise up against this violence (with something else than "this is terrible", "we are devastated", "our thoughts go to the families", etc), they hear that the raising up person "hates blacks" or "hates arabs" or "hates Muslims" or "hates Pakistanis", or "hates immigrants". Except for a few neo-nazis, which are about several thousands per country, this supposed hate is just a leftist fantasy. And it's upon their fantasy that they boycott, harass, politically and judiciarily terrorize.

I don't have much time to lose with this shit, but after having been blocked by an ultra-left extremist with hateful disclaimer, blocked without any reason except the fantasies of this sick sick mind, I have to explain a few things. I have been considered "racist" and in particular "islamophobic" by these kinds of sick persons for about ten years. This has given intense boycott, huge loss of money and fame, included for my wife and collaborator Anne Pangolin Guéno (The Soft Pangolin). This shit has had severe consequences on her psyche, and resulted among other things in her disappearance exactly two years ago, her sequestration for eleven months by her parents, and other shits elsewhere related. There was not only boycott but extreme slander and harassment, on a very, very long duration, with barbarian death threats. YWAMag, as stated in its Fb and Tumblr abouts, is open to ANYONE except haters. This has never changed in 9 years and about 80 000 selections. This doesn't only include nationalities, skin color, religion, sexual orientation, but also the cold haters aka the boycotters. Because art is my life, and this petty hate is just garbage. When I think about art, I forget the sick minds of these petty individuals, and imagine that they are their art - and not heavy, pestilential farts. I have written and published on my main Tumblr the start of my unfinished essay Once, We Were - A History of Neo-Collaboration (extract here). I have based my view on the racial slaughters and mass rapes in several Western countries among which France as the eye of the cyclone upon personal experience and huge daily journalistic work, with articles of the mainstream press and analyses from these facts or general ones. There is nothing to CONTRADICT. This is not a debate. I'll keep on later, in particular with what the "leftists" - it's the name, but it's actually fake left - because I have always been extreme-left - have in mind in front of this massive report of FACTS. Thanks a lot, after four months of daily come back after a break of one year and already difficulties in the 9 previous months after the disappearance of my wife and collaborator Anne Pangolin Guéno (The Soft Pangolin) at the end of August 2 021, the mag is now going well and is well supported. Now each time I connect to the mag, 3 or 4 times per day there are many notes, sometimes up to 100. There are things that have curbed the life and evolution of YWAMag, one has already been named included recently (twice I think), it's political boycott, especially by the Tumblr ultra-left staff.
Another thing is that I have had to block about 100 photographs who had participated to absolutely atrocious facts again us, and in addition to all this shit - of which I never speak about, and this is not an attempt to start that back, just a way of mentioning that this is a problem for the recognition of YWAMag - there is another problem caused by this absence : success calls success, which means that the more likes 'n reblogs there are, the more people come here, like and reblog. This is absolutely stupid 'n gregarious but this is a fucking rule. Also, obviously, there has been the hole created by this mass blocking but talents and even geniuses are plenty, and with the Tumblr ones and the external ones, I have material. Basile Pesso - YWAMag director since 2 014 P.S : for the come back of the interviews, we'll have to wait for Anne's come back as she is the one able to do great graphic design.

You Won’t Miss Me’s Weekly Choice #1 : Zutendaal, Belgium, February 2 021 © Sarah Hermans :
I recently told you that another feature was gonna come back, it’s the Weekly Choice by a collaborator.
In the first years of the Tumblr mag there were 4 collaborators, just for this feature, among which Anne Pangolin Guéno and Patricia Raquel Pereira. This feature has been interrupted for about 5 years, here is its come back with the young and talented Russian You Won’t Miss Me.
The principle is to take a high level image from the mag’s archives, which has never been Choice of the Day, more in the previous years now as I keep the recent ones for myself.
The mag is different from all the other big curating sites of Tumblr photo for several reasons included the fact that I prefer to work alone for the mag, but like to share some features like this one. Hi to all,
Because of some news I have had from my wife and collaborator Anne Pangolin Guéno (The Soft Pangolin), disappeared the 28/08/2 021, YWAMag will function for an indefinite time with variations of presence. For the ones interested and who can read French, I have started explaining all these news little by little on Facebook - they are of the most serious character. Basile Pesso - YWAMag director

The story of this image by the Serbian Jupiter Ovpstren in YWAMag is unbelievable. I’m gonna explain... Right after my text of the 20 June 2 023 with the reblog of a 2 019 Peter Solarz’ text about me and YWAMag, my text explaining the Tumblr boycott on me, my wife and partner Anne Pangolin Guéno and the mag in spite of our high artistic level and all I have been doing for art here and elsewhere since 2 008, Peter was on the Tumblr radar again, as it happened three or four times in the last years. Being on this radar or in its variation, “Tumblr Today”, brings a lot of likes, reblogs and follows. These things are not just “web glory”, for professional artists like me, web glory can bring money. Thus, obviously, political boycott “unbrings” money. A few days after (27 June 2 023), it’s Jupiter’s image which was on Tumblr Today, which brought the image one of the main amounts of likes and reblogs EVER in the mag, that’s to say since 2 015 on Tumblr - I’ll remind that the mag is a daily publication and has had more than 50 000 selections on Tumblr for hundreds of artists. It’s the FIRST IMAGE OR IMAGE OF VISUAL ARTWORK EVER among my thousands of pictures posted on my two personal Tumblrs  since 2 012, the few hundreds of posts of Anne (painter and designer) and the selections of YWAMag on Radar or Tumblr Today which is not a mosque image. Funny, or something else. Basile Pesso, YWAMag director since 2 014
