OK SO IK ITS NOT THE MOST POPULAR NOVEL I DONT THINK SO FOR MY MOOTS WHO R SEEING THIS THIS IS THE GENERAL CONCEPT: since abortions r banned pretty much, ppl either “stork” unwanted children or “unwind” children when they became unwanted. like the story starts off abt three unwinds, being unwound for completely different reasons. Connor was like, a troublesome kid and his parents just didn’t want that so they signed the orders to get him unwound. i missed why Risa was unwound but im pretty sure the state house just didn’t have much room for her anymore(she got storked there i think. she really didn’t grab my attention at the beginning sadly). Lev came from a Christian family, and churches make everyone sacrifice one of their children for God by unwinding them second they turn 13, Lev being one of them(it’s considered an honor)

OK SO the concept of storking is that, the mother delivers a child, doesn’t want it, leaves it at some person’s doorstep and then it’s “finders keepers.” however if they are caught they have to take the kid back and legally obliged to keep it. same with the finders keepers situation, got storked and ain’t no one at ur doorstep? legally obliged to keep it like it or not. however Connor’s parents once got storked and passed it into the neighbors house, and the baby rotated for a week and back to their house, but already sick and dying. Connor then gets traumatized and further on in the book he’s so overridden with the memory that when a bitch got storked she yell at them (Connor abd Risa) to take it back even tho the kid wasn’t theirs.

the concept of unwinding is that legally between 13-18 your guardians can send you to a harvest camp where you’re taken apart and given these parts to those who need it. like for example: you got unwound, taken to a harvest camp, they take your hands and give it to a guy who lost his across the fucking continent. ppl literally stopped trying to cure things, just replaced faulty organs with healthy ones. and no one really knows what’s going on in those harvest camps. do they kill you off immediately or do they wait and wait for weeks on weeks to get to you while you never know when’s your last day.

SO ANYWAY

I really like Connor’s relationship with Hayden, and tbh if they would make them canonically in love i’d be the happiest person on this planet. but again that would cause even further complications w the plot so i get it ig. but at the same time i don’t. Connor never really struck me as a cishet dude even from the beginning of the story, and though him abd Risa r a very good pair i’d just kinda like it more if they paired him up with Hayden. cuz first of all it would add on to tge reason he got unwound in the first place. abd like, i want a gay protagonist in a horror book is that really too much to ask?

same thing with Lev and CyTy, tho i see them more as moirails. yk, homestuck. heheh. no bc they’re so caring for eachother it’s crazy. but again i don’t see them in a romantic relationship, i just rlly like their dynamic. live laugh love how Lev was willing to go through with CyTy’s shit and vice versa.

Hayden and CyTy gotta b my fab characters frfr. anyway so CyTy’s name is actually Cyrus, but he has an eighth of a brain of a kid who got unwound and his name was Tyler. so like, he sometimes does things that Tyler would do but himself won’t, leading them to Tyler’s parents’ house and it actually made me tear up.

SHE IS A VERY COOL MOM janet afton you will always be famous. to me

Im taking this as a chance to finally ramble abt her anyways so Janet's core inspo when designing her was to avoid 2 key things. Don't make her like Immortal & Th Restless's Clara (due to clara representing michael, not mrs afton, so i wanted to avoid that), and don't base her too heavily off of Ballora. I still have ties to Ballora's character (a music-based theme, blue-centric colour palette, im sure there were more basic ideas but everything else is more hc than themes to keep up) due to my hc thingy of each Funtime having ties to William's wife + kids, but yknow.

But yeah. Funky lady who played bass guitar + did backup vocals in a band during her high school and college years. Literally her and William dating can be summed up by "Seriously, what do you see in that guy?!" "He makes me laugh." bc she was and is WAY out of his goddamn league. Not just bc of the whole serial killer thing he was just an even bigger loser in college. Normal people dont develop a crush on a woman after she nearly breaks your nose and makes you bleed, William /j

But yeah uhh. I also dont like the idea of her being absent or neglectful purely because I got way too attached to her (i was originally gonna do that just to make things easy for myself but. Pretty lady,,, I am a very simple lesbian what can i say) so like. She obviously wasnt the greatest, most fantastic mom to ever exist given she was kinda maybe sorta well aware William was making some weird fucking clowns, but like. Hey. She tried. Also side note my reasoning for her being absent during the whole. Yknow. '83 event (and just evan's bday in general) is bc Evan + Elizabeth are twins and Elizabeth demanded a girls-only trip for her bday, and Janet promised Evan she'd do something just as special for him when she got back. That never happened bc he died lmao loser /j

But yeah uhh. Shes got a lot of regrets. Wishes she coulda done a lot of things better. Kinda dies with those regrets. Ive seen people say that one of fnaf's charms is that no character is 100% good and i LOVE that, and wanted to keep it up with Janet. Good mom and overall a good person, however made some bad decisions along the way and whatnot.

Im still working out specifics (ive been slowly working on a lil private fic abt her and william meeting + their early relationship) but uhhh. Minor notes that dont get their own paragraphs is that William sampled her voice for Ballora so yay easy voice claim, she had an on and off relationship with her band's lead singer (her name's Bev), her birth name is actually Janice Schmidt but if you call her Janice she'll knock at least 2 of ur teeth out, she's a runaway teen and got adopted by this older couple bc her home life kinda sucked (idk specifics yet), and also girlie has an extensive criminal record of minor angsty teen type charges. Also teen Mike dying his hair and then 2020's Michael's hairstyle are both kinda references to Janet's hair because he wnated to look less like his father. Thats all ty. hey, different anon here but i'm pretty sure taika is referring specifically to the lack of homophobia in the pirate world in ofmd, not the whole universe. it's unclear in that quote but he's phrased it a bit better in other interviews lol.

i mean like, even if that's the case, he's still wrong?? we spend the majority of the show with stede and his crew, where the rules are different, but we're given clues that the general pirate world isn't as welcoming and accepting as the Revenge. i doubt any pirate's gonna bat an eye if two crewmates decide to bump uglies in the hold or whatever, but the general pirate world of ofmd doesn't seem like the place where queer people can fully express themselves and their love openly and without shame. and i draw this conclusion based on three characters in the show: hornigold, calico jack, and izzy. while these three characters obviously are not on the same level as blackbeard, we're meant to see them as "real pirates" at a certain level above where stede and the rest of the crew. which is why i'm inclined to look to them as examples of how the pirate world operates

i literally made a post abt this the other day but hornigold, a mysterious figure from ed's past, comes up a lot in fandom despite only being brought up in one conversation. and that conversation literally begins with calico jack sitting down at stede's breakfast table and saying, "Just for the two of you, huh? Hornigold'd shit himself." like, a private breakfast for two men is pretty gay, and i literally can't think of a positive way to interpret that line. obviously we don't know a whole lot abt hornigold, but a man described as "such a fucking dick" who used to beat his crew members down probably wouldn't see a fancy spread of food set out for two close male friends to enjoy and be like, "yes, this is good and fine and im okay with this"

calico jack is fun bc he's literally gay, but his brand of homophobia isn't so much about "two men having sex is gross" as it is "two men being in a healthy and loving relationship is lame and pathetic and weak." he also insults stede's masculinity by calling him a girl, which is literally one of the oldest homophobic lines in the book.

and then izzy. i genuinely dont understand why this is such a topic of debate and im gonna give a short version here, but izzy upholds a specific ideal of masculinity that is very much in line with the gender roles of white colonial society: no expressing genuine emotion except through anger and/or violence, no dressing or behaving "femininely" (the definition of which is also decided by white colonial society), no expressing weakness of any kind. when it comes to ed and stede, there's more to izzy's actions than just homophobia, but literally why does he treat lucius the way he does. what is the reason. wee john is sleeping on the job but he doesn't give him shit. pete was also fucking in the store room but izzy doesn't harass him all day. his whole fucking "daddy" scene was like, a direct insight into how he views gay relationships and gay sex. this freak homophobic!!! goddamn!!!!

anyway yeah stede's ship is an exception. the general pirate world in ofmd might not give a shit who you sleep with, but the standards of masculinity are still antithetical to open and healthy expressions of queer experiences

ok so im finally just gonna infodump about that dhmis au i just randomly started posting like a week ago almost, which ive just referred to as the dollhouse au. anyway infodumping under the cut lmao

so as i mentioned in the og comic for it, it was kinda inspired by ‘inside a mind’s theory abt the dhmis webseries but likeeee mostly for the aspect of red guy being the main focus + having some level of responsibility irt the situation, but anyway i mention this since its the basis of this au more or less

so the trio were all humans once, & were all connected in some sort of way. i havent determined the extent of their relationships but they def knew each other, and werent like borderline strangers. in my mind, red & duck were coworkers + friends (and potentially working on getting to be more than that, but never got there) and red & yellow had a familial, brotherly type of relationship (ive tossed around the possibility of them being maybe step-brothers or smth like that, idk like i said i havent determined the extent so take that w/ a grain of salt)

(also fyi yellow’s an adult & is younger than both red & duck by a somewhat significant amount, but he’s def just a neurodivergent adult man. theres not any plot significance, i just figured i’d say lol)

now these 3 definitely all have struggles in their lives, some of which have been reflected in the show (red’s inability to connect with others ‘like him,’ duck not actually liking being alone, yellow having a poor relationship w/ his dad, etc etc). their lives arent exactly horrible but its far from sunshine & daisies

(ive kinna debated the idea that maybe a significant event happened that negatively affected red in particular but idk i dont think i wanna make it melodramatic so lets just leave it as ‘their lives arent Perfect’ for now lol)

so at some point, red comes across an antique shop that’s never been there before, one that holds all of the puppet props as well as the dollhouse from the TV series, which red is given with the claim that it ‘belongs to him’ (& yes, the person that gives it to him is lesley). so red is just kinda like ‘ok ig’ & takes this totally normal dollhouse that won’t cause him problems in the future home w/ him. what could possibly go wrong

anyway i figure some time passes after he obtains the dollhouse but basically to make a short story shorter, he - & the other 2 - wind up getting trapped inside the dollhouse as puppets, so theyre stuck in there & then in the normal world theyre obvs labelled as missing. while they’re trapped in this dollhouse, they dont remember anything from their prev life - they do not remember being human, and they do not remember knowing each other as closely as they once did.

so before proceeding, i will say that in this au, both the webseries & the TV series occur in the timeline, & they do indeed occur one after the other, so the webseries is ‘season 1′ & the TV series is ‘season 2′ (& i think i will be referring to them as such throughout the rest of this dump bc its easier than specifying ‘webseries’ & ‘TV series’ each time lol)

so during s1, red guy is in ‘control’ - in the absolute loosest terms, bc obviously these puppets cant control SHIT, but all i mean by 'control’ is that their surroundings are reflective of a certain individual. in the case of s1, it is red. because of this, the trio is a little more self-aware (as red particularly was in s1), and they remember each incident that happens between episodes. obviously, things go downhill reaallllyyyy badly because red doesnt have a grip on anything, so we get some pretty nasty incidents. additionally, the world all around looks more realistic & uncanny while red has the reins

eventually, red accidentally leaves following dhmis 4, and this leads to him going into a version of the real world (obvs not the actual real world. whatever forces that have put him & his friends there aint done with him yet), which, as we all know, eventually leads to him pulling the plug on the world. now, he did this with the expectation that he & the other 2 would finally be free. but no, all it did was take the control out of his hands and put it into the hands of someone else

enter s2, i’m actually going to go ahead & say that ‘transport’ is the first thing that happens chronologically. so here we have red coming freshly out of s1′s events which were clearly traumatizing, and who also expected to be free of this hell puppet world only to find himself right back in the thick of it, so yeah, he’s a little on edge and stir crazy and wants to be free. but here’s the real kicker: none of them fully remember the events of s1. yellow & duck certainly dont, & red only has hints of feelings remaining from it, enough to make him frustrated, but not enough to remember the gory details. this is meant to be the hint that the ‘control’ has switched hands, since as i mentioned previously, they could remember what happened between incidents under red’s control. by the end of ‘transport’ whenever yellow reacts to hearing lesley’s voice, that’s the reveal in this au that yellow’s the next person to be ‘in control’

ways in s2 that show that yellow’s now control: things are definitely a lot softer, while still having their darker moments (compare this to yellow’s brain friends & how cute they were, then how that eventually went downhill) + the trio only have vague recollections of previous events (yellow evidently has some memory problems according to ‘friendship’), among other things. but basically, just judging on how the show treats yellow in s2, its reasonable enough to say in this au that he’s the next one in control of the dollhouse after red, who was evidently seen as an inappropriate fit

anyway thats about all i got atm lol, ive just been rotating this au in my brain for a while so i figured its abt time i like. actually write out most of the details gkjfhgjk. especially bc ppl seemed to like the lil drawings ive done for it, so < 3

Debating moving out, i need to get out but i cannot let her think that she won. plus i dont want to deal w moving all my shit. if i do move out i wouldn't tell her and id move out when she has class so she will return to an empty room, planing on writing something on the mirror for her.. maybe "suck my skinny balls" lol yea.

however if i do want to move out when shes in class that means i probably have 2 hrs max,,, i hope i can enlist some friends to help bc there's no way i can do that on my own

but i would like to see her before i move out, that is if i do move out. i want to tell her to give me the money he gave her, she didn't even thank him, u can fuck w me but once you mess w others in my life, that's when it bothers me. lol she has proof, what fucking proof, proof that u are so self-obsessed. i can safely compare her to a middle schooler, a 7th grader the worst of them.

thinking abt the shortcomings of pokespe (which are fine and to be expected in a series for children) and finding a lot of it to be Shounen Protagonist Syndrome which might not be the correct term for it, but basically the fact that the protag has to be stronger and better than every other character for the sake of the plot. a common way it gets justified is that the shounen protag has some sort of Power whether some ancient strong demon was born into them or their #TragicBackstory is some sort of experimentation or whatever the fuck luffy did. eat a devils apple or something. like its fine when it gets explored and paced properly but when it isnt then it just feels silly and unreasonable (<- what pokespe falls into the trap of unfortunately)

and basically this ended up making me think abt cloud strife bc wow he really is such a great deconstruction of this idea. he has the perfect setup to be ur overpowered hero dude with tragic experimentation and the Power (of mako) injected into him bla bla and even without that setup he tossed mfing Sephiroth into the mako blender at the young age of 16 with nothing but toothpick arms and the fervor of vengeance. except he doesnt get to be your hero dude at fucking all, he gets to be cool for one intro mission and then its time to play dressup and its all downhill from there. just one embarassment after another!

and not just his character but the plot he functions in deconstructs this idea too, bc instead of overcoming hardships by winning battles, ff7 has cloud losing like every single important plot point that matters. cloud and co dont stop the plate from falling, they dont save aerith, they dont stop meteor from being summoned, they dont stop shinra from shooting the ultimate materia into space, they dont stop weapon from wrecking midgar, and they dont even stop meteor (debatably). this party doesnt do SHIT.

and thats kinda amazing. fictional stories (shounen genre ones at least) are saturated with your archetypal Hero who is badass and is stronger than everyone and if that wasnt ur taste then ur other option was Edgy Antihero or The Land of Metaphorical Storytelling. then here comes mr toothpick arm strife showing a completely new path that can be taken: A Complete Fucking Loser. but such a well written loser. because while its nice for fictional medias to do their best to inspire us to give it our all to succeed, a lot of the time we dont! and of course shonen-esque media will have the protag lose every now and then, but again, itll be for the sake of the plot. they lose just so they can ultimately win. but in ff7, you NEVER win. its a failure after failure. you suck. but these characters keep picking themselves up after each loss, they keep trying again, and it is very touching and inspiring. to me at least, it is honestly more relatable and moving than a story where the hero's wins a penultimate battle after countless of toil and trouble. in ff7 they do the best that they can (which couldnt directly stop meteor) and leave the rest in fate's hand, which is just so different, but in the best way.

you would think that a story like ff7 wouldve been replicated more times, but ive yet to see another media do it in a similar way, with both their story beats + protag. i can think of stories that are like bad news after bad news, but none with fittingly appropriate losers of a protag. but i also have memory problems so i might recall one in like 2 days. but that aside its crazy that when cloud strife Is replicated, its his stupid hair and Cool Facade (which is supposed to be ironic/completely fake but then people make characters where thats their whole schtick like wht are u doing!!). anyways i love u cloud strife number 1 protag always in my heart

anderson & perry teacher headcanons :)

idk if theyre teachers in the same universe at the same time but i love the idea of either of them teaching, obviously in part having been inspired by mr keating and experiencing firsthand how much a good teacher can impact u and wanting to give other kids that experience

if it IS the same universe they probably work in the same district bc u know, they live together, its probably closest for both

todd would work at an elementary/middle school and neil would work at a high school (or maybe they'd both work at the same k/6-12 school) so a few years later when a kid would say they went to x school neil would ask if they had mr anderson n then would talk abt him a bit :) (regardless of if they said yes or no. he just likes to talk abt him)

in a more modern au both r those lovely teachers that have a pride flag somewhere in their room<33

so ofc a lot of kids would feel safe around them + come talk to them abt anything/bein queer :)

at a high school level he would love to not only teach core english but also at least one of the lang/lit electives like poetry or uh. what else is there. speech & debate. women in literature

ok maybe not speech & debate. or maybe! maybe he took that type of class in college & gained public speaking skills/confidence or whatever and wants to spread the good word to quiet high school kids that public speaking is a learned skill!

he'd probably want to stay at the same high school for a while, yk build a community + familiarity with how the program runs there and ofc get to know the kids and then their younger siblings two or five or ten years later

he has ... a very strong voice. he's not mean by any means and, being the theater teacher, he'd never put kids in situations they don't wanna be in, but his voice is very good for (lovingly (sometimes)) shouting at the juniors messing around on the clear opposite end of the theater

freshmen are always scared of him. but not in a bad way simply in an intimidated way. upperclassmen say dont worry hes cool i swear :)
