Angel Dust meanwhile is “Hells most popular porn star”- but he’s also a stripper and a prostitute. What is it with Viv and making her famous gay characters over complicated jobs? For Marc, I think for the most part, it's a means to end. Because that's what he really wants, isn't it? All anyone that's hurting ever wants is for the pain to stop. So he's sort of resigned himself to it, like he's spent a lot of time considering what his options are for a future are and he.. doesn't see much.

There's an ease in the way he lives in Steven's background. Marc can peek into Steven's awareness whenever he likes, cropping up in reflections wherever he goes. He knows how to poke at Steven's consciousness, how to gently grasp the front but he just. Holds it. Like he's waiting for his final say, for Steven's permission. It's practiced.

I imagine at some point, he felt that same discomfort, but he had to overcome that feeling and learn to live with it over time. Maybe eventually, he even made the connections between his grief and the comfort Steven brought him when he came forward. That he saw Steven's innocence and thought to himself, okay, maybe this is worth it.

And in a way, maybe he views that as his escape. He doesn't like it, but he doesn't hate it either, because it gives him what he wants. The moments he doesn't front, and his plan for eventual dormancy give him his way out, without hurting Steven's chances at life.

Because Steven has a future, and Marc believes stepping back keeps him from standing in the way.
