"Twilight, as he always did, stopped at the side of the bridge for a moment to appreciate the view. Wild leaned next to him, looking out too. Twilight had always been strangely sentimental about sunsets. He’d said something, once, about the sight serving as a reminder of friends gained and lost during his quest. (...) Wild reached out and squeezed his arm. Twilight glanced over and gave a sad smile, placing his hand over Wild’s, then returned his gaze to the sky."
Aaaaaaand this one is for the AMAZING @hotcheetohatredwastaken and her SUPER fic "Blood drops on roses"!!!!! Go read it right now because it's too NICEEEE!!!!🤩🤩🤩

BDOR Prologue: A Haircut—Annoyance, Persistence, and Bribery (1/3)
Tw: None for this chapter
Somehow, Wild got it into his head that he wanted a haircut. Something more like Twilight's or the village children's in Hateno. Something that stayed out of the way when he wanted to run or climb or fight, and something that took a lot less upkeep. He asked–begged–Twilight to do it.
The first few times, Twilight had brushed it off as a turn of whimsy the boy would forget in a week or two. But the idea had taken root in the kid’s brain like an all-consuming daydream; Twilight often caught him considering his reflection with great seriousness in a still pond or a house's window, turning his face this way and that, drawing his hair back behind his ears or letting it fall as he pleased. He would quite rudely point and whisper about every other traveler they passed, wondering how he would look with hair like that, couldn’t Twilight just do it, just once, and he wouldn’t ask again, please, please, please, please, please.
And Wild kept asking. And kept asking. And kept asking. He couldn’t even keep consistent what he wanted–one hour it was a bob, another just a trim to his shoulders, and the next he wanted it shaved to the scalp and spiked into a line in the center of his head. Twilight thought he would die if Wild’s long golden tresses were disfigured into such an ignominy. And he was worried that if he continued to refuse, Wild might just try to cut the hairstyle of the day himself. That would be a disaster.
“Are you sure?” Twilight had asked for what had to be the thousandth time as he kicked his feet idly under his chair, sitting at the high table of their new home in Hateno. The house had only been finished last week, and they hadn’t even begun to decorate or, Hylia forbid, buy furniture other than their beds and the kitchen table. Wild had taken the room down the hall—teenagers needed their privacy and all—while Twilight was relegated to the loft overlooking the living room. The taste of fresh sawdust still lingered in the air, and boxes crowded the empty home’s corners. Twilight picked at the meal before him–a bowl of pumpkin and meat stew, tastefully seasoned and hot off the stove. Made specifically to butter him up for this conversation, Twilight was certain. “Like, real, real sure?”
‘I’m sure, I’m sure, I’m sure!’
Wild buzzed about the kitchen, flapping his hands and straightening up this and that on the counter with such an excited energy Twilight worried he was about to explode. Wild seemed to like the clay oven the most out of anything else in the home. It was a cooking pot that was inside, set up similarly to those Twilight had seen in Gerudo town— not that he was supposed to know anything about what was inside the walls of that city —and low enough that Wild could use it without difficulty. All Wild had to do was feed fire into the slot in the front to keep the heat going, and he didn’t have to worry about something as trivial as rain preventing him from preparing them a good meal. Speaking of which…
Humming a sort of jumpy tune to himself, Wild donned a pair of baker’s mitts and reached into the oven. Out came a pie—some sort of citrus, by the scent of it—that he set before Twilight with a broad grin.
Twilight winced in the face of his blatant enthusiasm about bribery. Still, he pushed on. “I just… It’s a big change, you know. You’ve never had your hair cut before–why do you want to do it now? If you don’t like it, there ain’t nothing we can do but—”
‘I’ll like it! I will!’ Wild stamped his feet in a sudden show of childish stubbornness. His apron strings bounced up behind him like an irritated cat’s tail. ‘I know I haven’t had my hair cut before, that’s why I want to do it! Why do all of you people get to do it and I can’t?’
“Who’s ‘you people?'” Twilight muttered to himself, bracing his head in his hands. He had to admit the kid had a point—it was his hair to do with as he pleased. Plus, with a cut, the upkeep wouldn't be nearly as bad—as it was, Wild brushed it out and combed some sort of oil into the ends every morning, and Twilight braided it up every night. He couldn’t go longer than two days without washing, conditioning, and air drying, which was a multi hour process in and of itself, before it got greasy and Wild got very, very irritated with the feeling of it. It just wasn’t a style conducive to the amount of traveling they did. “Won’t you go to an actual barber, at least? I don’t mind to pay the money—”
‘No.’ Wild shook his head vehemently. ‘I want you to do it.’
Not that Twilight expected a different answer. Wild did not let strangers touch his hair. He’d broken Twilight’s nose the first time he dared to do so. And the second. It was still a touch crooked, but there was nothing to be done about that.
“I just… I’ve cut some of the younger kids’ hair before back at my village, sure, but what you’re asking—”
‘I want you to do it.’
“Fine, fine, I’ll do it,” Twilight grumbled. “But don’t you dare come crying to me if you don’t like it, I already warned you I ain’t gonna be no good at it. And give me a piece of that pie first.”
Wild let out a high-pitched squeal and threw himself across the kitchen to hug Twilight’s arm, chanting, “thank you thank you thank you thank you!” Twilight sighed and shoved a bite of pumpkin soup into his mouth. Somehow, he had a feeling this was going to be a lot more eventful than a simple haircut.

imo wild and twi are the most fluent in sign but I wonder if they know any swears 🤔🤔
I HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FOR THE PROLOGUE XD
(Unedited) SNIPPET BE UPON YE
———————————————————————
Just like the last few of his "funks," Wild came out of it pissed.
Twilight pulled away and shifted to human when a full body shiver passed over the boy, then another. It wasn't long after that his breath began to shudder and hitch. And finally, Wild blinked a few times in quick succession, and a sort of light replaced the terrifying blankness that had lurked behind his eyes.
Twilight watched with bated breath as slowly, oh-so-slowly, Wild raised a hand to his hairline, feeling along the jagged edge of his new, half-cut bangs. The kid gave them a cautious, testing pull, then, a small frown on his lips, ran his fingers over them again as though reassuring himself they were actually there.
And then, Wild's face crumpled, and tears sprang anew in his eyes. In an instant, he was sobbing in earnest.
"Oh, oh Wild, I'm so sorry," said Twilight in a guilty rush. He hovered an arm's length away, unsure whether coming closer would bring Wild's ire down upon him as before. "I don't know what happened, you just stopped—stopped responding, and your face went all pale. What's...?"
Twilight might as well have been speaking to a wall. Wild clutched his new bangs in both his fists, hunching over himself where he sat as he pulled as though he could yank them out of his head at the roots. The kid let out a croaky, warbling scream that sounded eerily similar to a mother's shriek after discovering her baby dead in its crib, not that of a 14 year old discovering a bad haircut.
"Wild, calm down, look at me." Against his better judgement, Twilight stepped in and gingerly placed his uninjured hand on Wild's arm. "Talk to me, what's going on—?"
Wild scrambled up and away from his touch so quickly that he upset the chair on which he'd sat. His gaze snapped to Twilight, and the tears in his eyes did nothing to temper the pure fury and hate within them. His hands went flying in Twilight's direction: 'Don't touch me! How dare you do this to me? What have you done? I hate you! Why would you do this to me? Get away from me! I hate you! How dare you do this! I hate you! What have you done? I hate you!'
Interspersed were a handful of signs that Twilight had never seen before. He was nearly sure were profanity, given their pointed motions and the hateful look on Wild's face, and he didn't want the full translation. Nevertheless, he got the message loud and clear.
I hate you I hate you I hate you.
Twilight didn't quite think that was fair. Wild had been the one to insist he cut his hair, and he wasn't the one with fresh stitches in his hand to show for it.

BDOR Prologue: Ballrooms and Buffoonery (1/1)
Partially inspired by @cutthroatcarnival's discussion of whether Twilight would know how to dance the Cotton Eye Joe.
The answer is yes.
And with that review, Twilight began to sing: “Buh dap duh dap uh, good ol’ man Joe! Something, oh crap, I don’t know the words—where didja come from, where didja GOOOOO?”  Twilight howled it to the rooftop of the house. Wild screeched back, "Twilight, shut UP!” with one hand planted firmly over his ear, the other pressed into his own shoulder. He tried to pull out of Twilight’s grip to no avail. “Stop, stop, STOP!” Twilight paid him no mind, launching them into a spin connected at the elbows. “Where did you come fro—oow!”  Twilight let Wild go and raised his arms over his head to escape his barrage of light, if not well-aimed, slaps. “What?” he asked sweetly, “don’tcha like my singin’?” “NO! Stop it!”

Blood Drops on Roses Ch 16: A Trail of Blood and Shadows (Pt 2)
“So, I hear that you’ll be joining us for a while.” Legend said once he was seated. “Any idea how long that will be for?”
Wild vaguely waved a hand around in response. Twilight likely still wanted him to leave today, if he would. Impa’s command beheld him to them only until they reached Director Purah’s lab in Hateno. He… didn’t really know.
“Well, however long that is—” Legend leaned in, catching Wild’s eyes meaningfully “—is there any way that I can convince you to cut it a bit shorter?”

Important author's note under the cut, copy and pasted from the fic.
Okay time for a stupid long author's note now.
When I started publishing this fic, I had Character Death tagged, but not Main Character Death. I was confused on the differences in these tags, so let me clarify--there will be multiple deaths, permanent and temporary, secondary characters and main cast. If you dip out here, no shame, take care of your mental health bestie. If you're unsure, feel free to leave a message in my inbox on tumblr--there I'll go further into content if needed, but I won't confirm theories on who dies or lives. For potentially sensitive chapters, I'll also be adding trigger warning to the top notes and a summary at in the bottom notes, so if any of you wish to keep reading but want to avoid those chapters, you can do so.
For the rest of you that will keep reading, buckle up. You've been sufficiently warned, I hope.
I'm changed the rating to Mature, too, though this arc doesn't quite reach that level. I've been tagging as I go, but I'll try to get the entirety of arc 1 tagged before the next chapter comes out, which will include all the potential content tags I can think of.
If there are any kind of "niche" trigger warnings (I just saw a post about trigger warning hair cutting, which I will add now, but that never would have occurred to me tbh), feel free to comment and I'll make sure it's properly tagged if I have it in the fic.
Anyways, sorry for all the doom and gloom, hope you enjoy the chapter!

BDOR Prologue: A Haircut—Anxieties (4/4)
“Wild… This is not the first time this’s happened. You get all quiet and vacant, and then you wake up and you’re mean and you say things that don’t make no sense. It scares me. What’s going on with you?"
Wild shrugged. He dragged his fingers along the rough edges of the kitchen table and shifted around in his seat like he’d rather be anywhere but here. ‘I’m sorry I hurt you,’ he offered up again, ‘I’m sorry, please, I’m sorry.’
Frustration welled in Twilight’s chest, and he kneaded at his temples, forcing the surge of emotion back down. Apologies were useless now—what he needed was an explanation. “Can you at least try to help me understand, please?” he said. “What’s happening, when you get like that?”
‘I don’t know.’

Ask game!!
flower <3
You managed to pick the most spoiler-y word in the entirety of my drafts, it seems. Every single one I could to pick for BDOR Arc 1 was like
"Ah, yes," said Ravio, handing Legend a flower, "now that the queen of England is dead and Time has delved into deep alcoholism because of Warrior's untimely death because Linkle killed him, what is your next step, heroes?"
Obviously, that's not what happens (or is it 0-0 LIZZY NO), but I shouldn't have been as surprised as I was, given that the title is Blood Drops on ROSES. ANYWAYS, here's ya snippet for the first instance of "flower" from BDOR Arc 2 (since you didn't specify a WIP I get to be sneaky like that lol).
And then came the dreams. They were comforting, at first. He was sitting in an nondescript field under the warm spring sun with Wolf, picking little white flowers from the tall grass. He was climbing a steep cliff, chilly rain battering his face and hot exhilaration racing through his veins. He was crouched over a smoldering fire on the trail, humming to himself as he prepared some surprise for Twilight that included pumpkins and fish, for some reason. Then came the memories.
The word existed about 14 times across both arcs, and about 5 more times in the Prologue pieces. Thank you so much for the ask! In my 15-minute sprint, I got 641 words for a wpm of 41.5! Thanks to you and @unexpectedstormy, the final chapter of The Yiga and The Sheikah is now finally just about ready to be edited for publishing XD.
The Ask Game: put a unique word (and choose between my WIP's Blood Drops on Roses (Arc 1), Arc 2, or the Prologues (Link), if you wish) in my inbox and I'll respond with a three sentence to three paragraph snippet once I've done a 15-minute writing sprint, and I'll give you my wpm too.

So guys. The fun thing about having 6 notebooks is that you can show off how much you’ve written, feel superior, you know all the fun stuff
BUT SOMETIMES YOU KNOW THAT YOUVE WRITTEN A SCENE, AND DESPITE YOUR RIGID TAGGING SYSTEM YOU CANT FIND IT FOR THE LIFE OF YOU. ITS BEEN AN HOUR. AAAAAAAA
