So here is some extra blurb about my shuake comic Orion which I posted recently because I’m feeling chatty.
They’re mostly random facts about Betelgeuse and Rigel.
-Betelgeuse is a red supergiant and Rigel is a blue supergiant.
-Typically, the brightest star in a constellation is named the alpha star via Bayer designation. But in Orion, Beta Orionis (Rigel) is almost always brighter than Alpha Orionis (Betelgeuse). There are some speculations as to why. The simpler explanation is that Bayer simply designated Betelgeuse which is in the top left corner of the constellation alpha since the two stars are similarly bright. The other suggestion is that Betelgeuse was indeed brighter than Rigel at the time of Bayer’s observation since Betelgeuse is a variable star.
-Rigel is both younger and more stable than Betelgeuse haha.
-Rigel is also four times hotter than Betelgeuse.
-Though they’re both supergiants, Betelgeuse is much, much larger than Rigel.
Tumblr media
———
Anyway, I thought the two stars had some parallels with Joker and Akechi. While Joker’s signature color is red in game, I thought Rigel kind of fits him because there are actually many scenes that feature blue as a key color for him like when he first activates Arsene or has a vision in the beginning of the game.
That Betelgeuse is older (lol) and more unstable (lol) also fits Goro.
Also, here’s my personal photo of Orion I took with my phone like last week. I jacked up the contrast a little, but overall it’s a very visible constellation. You can see both Betelgeuse and Rigel here.
You can also see the reddish tint of Betelgeuse even though the photo’s pretty grainy. It was pretty visible with naked eye too. You can definitely tell that it’s reddish. When I took this photo, I thought Betelgeuse actually looked brighter than Rigel perhaps because red is more visible to human eye.
Anyway, I hope my comic and post makes you look at Orion differently too lol

Beyond Coogee (Week 2)
After a week of exploring Coogee and the surrounding area, my housemates and I felt prepared to embark on a voyage inland. In Surry Hills, a suburb of Sydney known for its stylish cultural and cafe scene, we embraced our duties as college students and went thrifting. I couldn’t name each shop we walked into or every hat I tried on, but I could, with much gusto and enthusiasm, show you exactly where I got the Nutella Latte that changed my life (I just wish it lasted me more than two minutes). Apparently, Australia has a very strong coffee culture which was well established before coffee chains even tried to enter the market - there are less than 70 Starbucks shops in Australia compared to over 17,000 spread across the 50 United States. The coffee tastes even better after converting the cost of the coffee to USD and seeing that it cost me half the price of its counterpart in America.
Tumblr media
With our appetites built up, we made our way towards Chinatown where we enjoyed some authentic Chinese dishes followed by my favorite Oolong Tea Boba.
Tumblr media
A habitual Coogee Beach swim and coastal walk followed later that day joined by Lauren and Shaunak, a student from Georgia Tech. The three of us grew to appreciate each other’s company as we contemplate the philosophical on our walks - everything from how our relationships with our friends and families shape us to commentary on the realities of tourism.
Tumblr media
Before we knew it, the NCAA championship was upon us! Luckily, Lauren and I had prepared a watch party at the same local bar where we’d watched the semi-finals. This time, determined to draw a larger crowd, we created a flyer that could be easily passed around amongst students in the area. Though not all UM fans, students crowded the bar and seats ran out after the first hour to watch us take the trophy. Go blue!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later in the week, a trip to Bondi Beach went south when an incident occurred in the water. I had just gotten out of the water when I noticed a large crowd forming in the northern end of the beach. After some inspection, it turned out that somebody had been rescued from the water and was getting medical attention on the shore. Film crews surrounded the area. Bondi Rescue is a TV show filmed at Bondi Beech that follows lifeguards as they locate drownings, carry out rescues, and handle other conflicts in and around the water of the busiest beach in Australia. The sight reminded me of just how dangerous the ocean can be with waves reaching 5ft above the water. Lifeguarding is often regarded as a common summer job for teenagers in the US, but in Australia it’s taken quite seriously. Just a few minutes at Bondi Beach is enough to see a lifeguard tell someone to swim to a designated area, leave the water if it’s declared unsafe, or even make a rescue. Having been a lifeguard myself, safety is always at the top of my mind when I swim, but let me tell you - these waves are not to be messed with.
With week 3 approaching, I’m excited to take my first trip out of Sydney to the Gold Coast! Cheers!

Hi! Digital cameras work with an image sensor, most of which have millions of pixel censors that each filter a specific color of light (red, blue or green) and for a standard Bayer filter, there are two green pixels for each red or blue (which results in red and blue light having less definition). Are ghosts made or a lot of red or blue light and that's why it's hard to take pictures of them?
see that’s where digital cameras get weird, i think that whatever ghosts are will “react” more to older/film cameras, while modern technology has more of a dampening effect on them

[image description: photos of a set of 4 letterpress-printed notecards, and one of the formes of handset type used to print them. Printed on navy blue paper with white flecks, the four cards illustrate constellations with an arrangement of handset stars. Each constellation has its alpha, beta, and gamma Bayer designated stars identified with a small Greek letter; on the back side of each card each of those designated stars is listed with its name. In the forme of handset type, each star and character is an individual, lead-cast relief piece; all negative space inbetween printed characters has to be filled with other variable pieces of leading and spacing to keep the whole forme standing upright and in position. Constellations featured: Draco, Cassiopeia, Boötes, and Orion. end description.]
hhBLECH i drag in these photos i finally took and throw them up on the floor, sorry. it’s been a week. this next week is also gonna BE one. Can’t wait to take a break in, hmm, January.
ANYway!! got these guys mostly done a bit ago but didn’t finish lining a handful until later. I had some thoughts when i was mocking up about, like, linking point size of star to visible magnitude or something, but the logarithmic vs. linear scale doesn’t really work out as uh clear or good graphic design especially not at this small scale so nevermind all that! just an amount of variation for texture & taste.
also wanted & got to include a couple Bayer designations because 1! individual designations & names are cool & fun facts. 2, isn’t it wild how continuous a body of investigation our records of science can be, that we have managed to hold onto, and use with some degree of continuity. 3, I have all these beautiful little Greek letters and nobody ever asks me to use them :(( Fine i will think of a purpose myself then
i LOVE the Stymie titling, so glad I spent the time on distributing it into a few cases for faster setting. so professional & clean but also friendly :))

It’s been my honor and privliege (and sometimes learning experience) to work and hang out with Micky and to be part of the 2011 Monkees reunion tour of the UK and US. HB and God bless Micky.
