i typically don’t post “off topic” since this is a blog with a very specific focus, but i can’t just post on here business-as-usual as if i didn’t just spend a significant amount of my afternoon learning about and crying for the family of a palestinian girl who just learned that most of her loved ones are dead.
a common refrain on this blog has been “we are hurting, we are dying, please pay attention.” so i feel the need to stress now that if you’ve ever heard and listened to that sentiment coming from me about my community and the violence we’ve faced, i need you to hear it now and listen to it now when it comes a thousand times more desperately from the mouths of palestinians in the face of the atrocities that are taking their homes, communities, and lives away. i need to make it abundantly clear that if you see what i talk about here and agree and support it but you won’t extend that same solidarity to the palestinians who need it now, you’ve entirely missed the point.
i also want to stress that you cannot let yourself fall for the propaganda that tries to pit queer and trans people against palestinians. there are queer and trans palestinians and their lives are also being destroyed. they exist and they are part of this family and we need to show up for them and their families. so please keep in mind that every time someone says “if you were queer or trans in palestine you would be killed,” what you’re hearing is an attempt at distracting you from who’s actually killing the queer and trans people in palestine.
i’m one of many people who feel incredibly out of their depth thinking about all of this, and i know that even once i’m better educated, i’ll never stop feeling deeply unqualified to talk about it in depth. i get feeling like you don’t understand it, i get feeling like you can’t do anything about it.
but you don’t need to understand every nuance of the politics or know every bit of the history or feel like an expert in it to give a shit. you can and should(!!!!!!!) learn more and find ways that you can contribute, but in the meantime, the absolute least any of us can do is not look away from this. you don’t need to be an expert to see the tragedies unfolding in front of us and know that they are wrong.
i’ll never forget that girl’s family. i’ll never forget the beautiful babies in those pictures who never got to grow up, or the aunts and uncles and grandparents who were taken before their time. i never knew them, but i felt their loss and cried for them and i will never forget them. they and the countless others like them deserved so much better, and those who are still surviving deserve freedom.
so if you’ve ever fought for my community or any other community facing violence, i better fucking see you fighting for palestinians now.

“Learning more from our cultural consultant Dr. Aomar Boum about the cultural traditions of the Amazigh people in North Africa, including their history of braiding and ornamenting long hair, inspired me to explore a box braids hairstyle for Asha.” -Bill Schwab
So y’all choose to showcase all this “research” by:
1) Ended up not giving Asha any hair ornaments, and a chance to give her a unique and distinct design that helps best represent her culture
2) Choosing micro “box braids” of all afro-based hairstyles to give to Asha, despite the fact that box braids wouldn’t even look like whatever y’all gave Asha. For one thing that particular style takes a lot of time and a lot of hair and a lot of work, all of which Asha would not have, nor do I think that’s even her character. It’s also not a common hairstyle people from North Africa would wear at this time. If they did it’s usually in 2-10 braids
3) Design said box braids in the movie in a way where it’s hard to tell whether they are braids or twists, and honestly I think they do a bit of both. Doesn't help their animation makes everything look muddy, so you really have a hard time telling. And no it's not because of poor YouTube quality, we've seen Disney provide us official screenshots from the movie, it just looks that bad. One side of her hair aren't even box braids, they are clearly cornrows. Not that we don't mix box braids and cornrows into our hair sometimes, but it's obvious yall just didn't care to make the distinction. Here's a hint to recognize box braids: they are parted in "box" sections
4)Making it seem like black hair is stiff and lifeless despite all the movement Asha be doing. There are plenty of references of black girls dancing with their braids yknow, moving. They couldn’t look at any references?
“It’s a fantasy it’s not meant to be accurate” ok then don’t bother consulting with anthropologists on this subject then. Don’t boast how much “research” you guys do only to show that’s not the case and you don’t even listen to the experts. Not that listening to one person is enough. You’re representing a group of people that hardly gets media coverage other than “bad desert brown person”. But I guess that's fitting Disney shows how little they care looking st the genocides they supporting

This person says they're anti-israel and pro-palestine. They say they believe the human rights media when it comes to Israel's genocide yet they claim they're unreliable when the same media outlets point out the human rights abuses in West Papua by Indonesia.
If you only believe that countries that aren't your own are capable of breaching international humanitarian law, committing genocide, and colonisation, then your blind loyalty to your government will be your undoing.

In my eyes, Fran Drescher is a Zionist between the pro 🇮🇱 statement released on Twitter a few weeks ago for SAG (without telling or getting approval from all members prior to it) and the disaster of a contract she just approved of. She's approved letting all studios use generative Ai & annoucing it from her manshion speaks volumes. She clearly doesn't care.
I hope all SAG members read the contract and unianimously vote no- then push to fire Fran, or all their work was for nothing. And I will be personally suggesting non members who showed solidarity and allies boycott & blacklist hiring & streaming all media with Fran in it because m a n, what a saggy moist yet buyable bag she is.
Everyone knows Hollywood is the US government's no 1 propaganda and distraction machine- the rush to approve this contract & not immediately disclose to the masses what it contained is after that twitter post is a huge🚩
Fuck Fran Descher
And if you're part of SAG AFTRA, Vote No because of the generative Ai usage.

All these people that say "boycotting doesn't work" and "why aren't you flying over to palestine to fight instead of boycotting" absolutely baffle me because by saying that, they're just openly declaring how fucking stupid they are. If you look at history, spesifically apartheid regimes in history, for eg. The Apartheid regime in South Africa, one of the leading reasons why the people of colour in South Africa were liberated is because the Apartheid government was being cut off from the rest of the world. They were being denied business from everyone until they stopped the apartheid regime. They were being boycotted. So do not ever say that boycotts don't work. Another thing is that even if you believe the boycott won't work, how can you see what is happening to the people of palestine, see parents holding pieces of their children in bags, see babies being pulled out from the rubble, see 15 and 10 and 3 and 1 year old orphans who are irreparably traumatized beyond anything we could ever imagine, see 13 year old girls who scream "do not save me first, save my parents and siblings first!", see a 3 year old child brutally shot in the chest when his father came outside and asked the soliders for him to just let them leave before they started bombing, only to be shot mercilessly, and still feel comfortable funding the government responsible for doing all of that. Do you not care how your money is spent? Are you so fucking desensitized that you don't understand things unless they happen to you personally? How would you feel if it was your father who was shot, your sister who was screaming for them to save her last, your siblings who were killed whilst trying to save their children, your mother who protected you with her body, you who was shot in the back at age 6, and the whole world stood back and did nothing except fund the people oppressing you so that they could oppress you even more. Some of you are truly zionists and for that i hope you burn, but the rest of you are being willfully ignorant and refuse to learn just because you can, and for that you are just as evil. I hope you all are treated with the same treatment that you wish upon or gleefully witness others go through.

Twitter and Tumblr about completely changing Ariel's ethnia and race in the live action adaptation : "die mad, fiction is fiction, and her origins don't matter in the storyline anyway, who cares where Ariel is from as long as she sings ? Anyone arguing is a racist because life is literally black and white and so are opinions on adaptations, color washing doesn't exist you're just a bigot"
Twitter and Tumblr now that Disney casted an actress who is more native Hawaiian than they ever will be but is not "dark enough" for playing Nani therefore "not a real Hawaiian and white washing" despite she is not white

Hey! Hey!
HEY! DO NOT WATCH DISNEY WISH! THERE IS STILL AN ACTIVE PRESSURE BOYCOTT!
It sucks that I have to encourage not watching a Disney original plot film with a prominent black protagonist character. I normally would see this film to support it for the original content and to show monetary support for BIPOC characters in animation. And it breaks my heart the boycott might discourage Disney for black led films.
But the deaths of Palestinians is more heartbreaking. Gaza is still in danger and Disney still is being pressured for their Israel support and to support Palestine vocally.
Edit: I want to immediately clear up any possible misinformation. I has also seen this incredibly informative post by @daisy-mooon that goes more into detail on yow Disney specifically gave Humanitarian aid to Israel. I do not want to say this aid is bad but is a look to not also provide the residents of Gaza with support as well. The post also clarifies that Disney is considered a “Pressue” company in this Boycott and I have updated this post with that wording. I use “Pressure” and “Boycott” interchangeably. A pressure boycott is different where the goal there is to try and reach out to the company to ‘pressure’ them into support. I recommend that people do whatever they can to make it clear to Disney any content you’re Boycotting is because of the ongoing Genocide in Gaza.

“at all costs” was definitely written to be a duet between amaya and magnifico. “you still amaze me after all this time” does not sound like a lyric asha and star boy would sing to each other, since in the context of the film, they would’ve just met.
what’s insane is they totally could’ve kept the song in the film, since amaya and magnifico are portrayed for like 2/3’s of the movie as a couple who loves and cherishes each other.
why did they have to change it to be a confudled duet between asha and magnifico that makes no sense and has no bearing on the plot???
jfc disney sucks at storytelling.

Wish Remake?
I haven’t watched Wish yet, mostly because I’m boycotting Disney at the moment due to their stance on the genocide in Palestine, and I’ve yet to watch it elsewhere (if you know you, you know). I’m a little hesitant too because most of the reviews I’ve read and watched about this movie weren’t very glowing. However due to what I’ve heard that happened behind scenes and what we could have had, it gave me an idea.
This probably going to sound controversial, and feel free to disagree but if Disney ever gets better leadership in the future (first thing and most important thing to do though is to stop their financial support towards Israel and help by financing Palestine), I think they should consider giving Wish another chance.
I don’t mean as like a live action remake, I think Wish should still be animated but give it back the story it was supposed to have since it sounded promising. The King and Queen in the movie were both supposed to be the villains of the movie. Then the star was supposed to be a Star God that was a Peter Pan-inspired character and he was supposed to have love story with Asha. The film was also supposed to be in traditional 2D animation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just feel really bad for the writers and original animators that had that version scrapped because the higher ups at Disney said no to them. I know all of this sounds unrealistic, but if Disney ever goes through a big change and starts thinking about quality over quantity again, they should try remaking Wish into the movie it was meant to be.
If not, I’m willing to write a fanfiction and draw some fanart, imagining what Wish could have been.

i hope this is an ok question to ask but can you help me understand why people are boycotting the screening of suga's movie in israel? it makes sense to want hybe to divest from zionism but i don't understand wanting to prevent everyone who lives in israel from seeing the movie. what about israeli army? i have to imagine there are many many people in israel who strongly oppose what their government is doing. please don't see this as an attack, but i'm just having a hard time understanding the purpose of this movement. i see people on twitter who are denouncing israeli army as a whole just because of where they live. how is that fair? people are not their country's actions.
i don't mind having this conversation if it's actually in good faith, but you sort of answered your own question: the divestment is the point. what does it look like for a company that is actively employing and standing behind zionist employees to profit from and release a film in a zionist state that is actively committing a genocide?
i'm sure palestinian army would love to go see a movie or listen to music or have access to the internet or just go a single day without fearing for their lives or watching loved ones die or get maimed. i'm sure they'd love to have a safe place to shelter. i'm sure they'd love to not be in the middle of a famine and worry about where their next meal is going to come from.
and i'm sure people are gonna yell at me for this bc god forbid this fandom has an opinion, but: some things are bigger than k-pop. you will be ok if you can't see a movie. you will be ok if you can't buy an album. you will be ok if your fav's streaming numbers are low. israeli army still have internet access, they can pirate it. you do not have to give hybe money for anything ever to support bts, and i think it's a little weird that blind, mass consumerism is not only completely acceptable in k-pop, but you are shunned and harassed for not participating in it.
