The time has come. After waiting for centuries (6 months) I FINALLY posted the 5+1 protective Eddie fic. Can I get a hell yeah?
love is a ruthless game
Rated T | 10k words
Written for Buddie Week 2024: protective Eddie
“You're back early,” Eddie says without looking up, busy matching different kinds of superhero socks.
“Cap sent me home,” Buck answers, kicking off his shoes.
“Why?” Eddie asks, and he finally turns around. The pair of Captain America socks Christopher got from Chimney and Maddie at his last birthday party falls to the ground. “What the fuck?”
“Language,” Buck says, trying to be funny. Get it? He tries to say mentally to Eddie, 'cause those are Captain America socks. And it's a popular movie quote?
But sadly Eddie can't mindread. Instead, Eddie marches over fast, face so angry that Buck would have felt intimidated if he were anyone else.
“Who did this to you?” Eddie asks between clenched teeth. His eyes are so dark and narrowed that Buck does actually feel a chill down his spine. He hasn't seen Eddie this angry before. Not even during the lawsuit.
He wonders if this was the Eddie who went to a fighting ring. He wouldn't want to be Eddie’s opponent.
Buck sighs, thinking that Eddie is being a little overdramatic. “Eds-”
“Who. Did. This?”
(OR: Five times Eddie is (over)protective of Buck + 1 time Buck is protective of Eddie)

summary : Buck looks baffled when he asks, “You’re still hung up on Shannon?”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, he shakes his head negatively, “No. I’m not.” He’s fully shaking when he dares to look at Buck, “I think my libido died when she did, or something like that, because I just can’t do it, alright?”
Buck hesitates when he speaks, “So you don’t wanna have sex?”
“No, no I wanna have sex,” the words feeling heavy on his tongue. He does. He does wanna have sex, he thinks about it, touches himself and wishes it were someone else doing it or that at least that he had someone to share it with. Eddie wants to have sex, in theory. It’s the practical part that feels wrong. “It’s more,” he licks his lips, “It’s more like I want to have sex, and I can see myself having sex, but I can’t see myself doing it with someone else. It’s like I need more than just someone there willing to do it with me.”
“What does that mean?”
“I don’t know.” He admits with a heavy heart.

Buddie Week 2024
Tumblr media
Buddie Week 2024 is a week-long event to celebrate our two favorite firefighters. WIth the use of forms, the fandom could choose several things like the prompts and when the week takes place. All forms are now closed and everything is official!
April 8th - April 14th is Buddie Week!
Each day has two normal prompts and a quote prompt. To join, you only have to choose one of these (of course you can do more!). If there isn't a prompt you like, you can choose one of the alternate prompts to write for instead.
And here are the prompts (nominated and then voted by you). The order of prompts is from the most voted for to less voted for.
Monday April 8th: Borrowing/stealing/sharing Clothes - Secretly Married - "I'm right here, I always have been."
Tuesday April 9th: Protective Eddie - Co-Parenting - "I can tell you're not fine"
Wednesday April 10th: Clipboard Buck - Tattoos - "Is that my shirt?"
Thursday, April 11th:- Eddie calling Buck 'Evan' - falling asleep on each other - "Because I fucking love you!"
Friday April 12th:- didn't know they were dating - demisexual Eddie - "I swear it wasn't my fault this time."
Saturday April 13th: hugging from behind - Buck speaks Spanish - "I'm not letting you go."
Sunday April 14th: first kiss - hurt/comfort - "Please don't leave."
Alternate prompts:
stuck together
special rescue/heavy rescue Buck
amnesia
"I'm sorry, you want us to do what?"
"Shut up and kiss me."
"This made me think of you."
More information about the collection on AO3 will be posted later! But for now, you can start making things for this event! You can write a fic, make art, create a playlist, or do anything that you want with these prompts. You don't even need to post it on ao3 if you want it to. You can post anywhere.
During the week and the period after, I will try to reblog everything on Tumblr that has this account tagged in the post, or 'Buddie Week 2024' in the tags. You don't HAVE to tag me. I understand if that makes you uncomfortable - I was the same with my first Whumptober year and didn't tag the official Whumptober account or tags.
Everyone can participate! Maybe you can post fic recs with these themes. Post little snippets or drabbles. Do whatever you want. Maybe you've got your own idea how to participate.
The ONLY rule is that the use of AI is not allowed. And, of course be nice to each other! If something isn't your thing, exit the page, don't be mean.
I'm excited to see what you all come up with! I will be writing fics as well for this event. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to send a message or an ask!
To stay updated, you can follow this blog (@911buddieweek )
(Sharing/boosting on tumblr and other sites is appreciated. I do not have (or want) a Twitter account so I don't know if they're even aware of this)

I've been thinking about Madney's wedding and I just can't stop imagining Buck and Eddie as Mónica and Chandler from friends. Just hear me out, I know the Buckley parents are trying their best but what if they still let out remarks like 'this will be the only wedding we're attending' or 'we're so happy to see Maddie get happily married, this might be the one for a LONG time'
And Buck knows that he shouldn't pay attention to their parents remarks but he also agrees with what they are saying. It has been weeks since Natalia and he broke up and he's almost as lost as he was after the lightning strike. He still tries his best to not let his parent's remarks get to him and fully enjoy his sister's wedding. He's not sure how much he succeeded though. Now imagine,
Eddie: So you're not upset about what your parents said, right?
Buck: Wouldn't you be? I mean they weren't exactly wrong.
Eddie: Hey, I know it's a very emotional time for you and you've had a lot of drinks but you need to let that go. I mean you were the most beautiful man in the room tonight.
Buck: Really?
Eddie: Are you kidding? You're the most beautiful man in most rooms-
And then they kiss now also imagine the morning after where Chimney is excited and running in Eddie's room about how he's going to get married today and once he leaves, Buck's like 'Do you think he saw I was here?'
Now ofc there will be angst on how are oblivious idiots would be sure that this is just fwb for them yk a friend helping another friend and it takes a lot of miscommunication and finally communication to know that they really do love each other.
(I know I should stop with my ideas considering exams and my wips but I can't help it lol)
Maybe I can write this one for didn't know they were dating prompt of buddie week where Buck is clear this was a one time thing and Eddie is sure that ofc Buck knows that I like him so much.

god only knows where this could go
What?” Buck asks again, his own brow furrowing now. “Your gear,” Eddie says, nodding at him. “That’s my turnout coat.” “No it’s not,” Buck says with confidence, yet still tries to look over his shoulder at the name on the back. He ends up spinning in a circle, like a dog trying to catch his own tail. “Unless you changed your name to Evan Diaz recently,” Chimney teases. “I’m afraid it’s Eddie’s.” Eddie’s heart feels like it’s going to beat right out of his chest, breaking through his ribcage at the words Evan Diaz.

Buddie Week Day 4: Eddie calling Buck 'Evan'
@911buddieweek (terribly sorry to the fest admin for tagging after the week is over! I really wanted to complete the week as a personal challenge even if it's delayed)
I’ll rearrange the letters of your name to spell love
Eddie starts calling Buck by 'Evan' and doesn't stop once he realizes Buck doesn't mind.
Or
5 times Eddie calls him Evan, and one time Buck calls him Edmundo.
Mature (for mild sexual content only in the beginning) | 2,817 words
> Established Relationship, Dorks in Love, SO MUCH FLUFF, The power of names (or something like that)
Eddie's eyes are shining bright with emotions and he has that one smile that he has when he's around Chris; Buck thinks it means love but Eddie is not at that point where he's said it to Buck yet. Buck doesn't mind, Eddie declares his love for Buck in a hundred different ways. He doesn't need words to tell him that. Eddie places a hand against his face and gently caresses Buck's cheek. “Do you want me to call you Evan more?”, he asks softly. And Buck swallows against the rush of feelings at the thought. “Yes. Yeah, I think so”, he says, and he knows he sounds strangled, his voice raw but Eddie doesn't say anything. He pulls Buck closer, back to tuck his head against his neck and moves his hand up and down Buck's back soothingly. “Anything for you, Evan”, and Buck lets out a happy sigh against him. Because that too sounds like ‘I love you’ when it comes from Eddie.

Sharing Clothes & Last Names
Buddie Week (@911buddieweek) Monday Prompt: Borrowing/Stealing/Sharing Clothes & Secretly Married
Buddie | 1,268 words | T
“Aren’t you the one in this marriage that’s supposed to be injury prone?” Eddie grumbled, his voice tinged with tiredness. Buck’s eyes went wide as the group around them looked at the couple with looks of shock on their faces. “Marriage?” Athena asked, an eyebrow raising in the process. “Shhh, you can’t tell anyone at the 118 that Buck and I got married. It’s a surprise!” Eddie said, humming contently, not realizing who he was speaking to due to the pain medicine still in his system.
or
After the bridge collapse, Eddie accidentally reveals the fact he and Buck had gotten married without telling anyone in the 118 family.

Buddie Week Day 6: Hugging from behind- Buck speaks Spanish - "I'm not letting you go"
They finished their workout without any interruptions and other than the odd look Eddie gave Buck, he didn't ask why Buck was so distracted and Buck was grateful. He didn’t even know how to explain to the other man that he had beef with a green owl who had been supposedly helping him for the last few months with his Spanish. No, that was not a conversation he was ready to have. Plus it would spoil the whole point of him learning Spanish in the first place.

The End of an Era (The Beginning of Forever)
Buddie Week 2024 - Day Six prompt - Hugging from Behind!
================
The loft exists in boxes. Rooms have been labeled and separated, each into three separate piles. Move. Store. Donate. There’s something visceral about seeing this place restored to its default settings. Almost as if…
“End of an era,” Eddie muses as he tapes up one of the kitchen boxes and marks the instructions with a thick black marker.
Sounds echo now without fabrics and books and furniture to muffle them. Buck’s warm hands encircle his waist and pull their bodies flush.
“Beginning of an era,” Buck corrects, breath ghosting against the lobe of Eddie’s ear. The four words shouldn’t be as sexy as they are, but here, wrapped up by the other man, they vibrate through the core of Eddie’s being and he shivers out a weak laugh.
“Have you always been this smooth?”
“I have my moments,” Buck laughs. Warm. Home.
They canoodle in the emptied kitchen, pressed tight, swaying to the roaring thrum of their matched heartbeats.
“A lot of good memories in this place,” Eddie whispers, swallowing down thick emotion.
“Mmhmm.” Buck hums the tone into Eddie's neck, sealing it in the other man with light kisses and scratchy stubble.
Eddie walks them, two bodies joined by Buck’s powerful arms. Buck lingers against the other man, their steps in sync as he’s directed into the open space of the loft.
“We were here when you told me,” Eddie smiles, planting their connected form equidistant between where they both had sat that fateful night those many months ago.
It’s Buck’s turn to move them. He nudges Eddie’s knees with his own to get the man’s feet to move. They shuffle through to the space a breath from the door. “We were here when you told me.”
Eddie laughs. Comfortable. Soothing. “I was so scared. I don’t think I let go of the doorknob the whole conversation.”
“I remember.” It’s been months since that night, but every syllable is seared in Buck’s memory. Eddie stood in the space they now occupied, grip so tight on the knob that the blood could not find purchase in his fingers.
It’s been weeks since you’ve told me and all I can think about is you.
“I wanted to run,” Eddie admits. “Or vomit.”
“I’m glad you did neither.” Buck kisses the other side of Eddie’s neck and affectionately tightens their hug. “Chasing you would have been hell. I was still sore from the wedding.”
“And the bachelor party,” Eddie scoffs as he snuggles into Buck’s embrace.
They laugh and a warm rumbling energy passes between their two forms. Comfort, strength, and a connection stronger than most ever experience joins them. Beyond the current physical, it’s hard to judge where one ends and the other begins. Like in the kitchen, they linger here, no words needed between them as they each replay the journey to this moment.
Eddie takes charge again, and steps away from Buck’s embrace. The cool of the loft instantly replaces the warmth of Buck’s powerful chest. He doesn’t sever their connection though. He turns, and takes the other man’s hands in his own, thumbs brushing over knuckles as he steps them back into the loft. Buck’s eyes are sweet. They crinkle at the edges and shine in warmth as Eddie positions them. He smiles, wide and toothy, and Eddie wonders how he could have not known for so long.
“And here?” As if either of them would ever forget.
This kiss is warm and languid. Patient. They kiss now in comfort, a stark contrast to the jittery nerves and trepidation those many months ago. Eddie curls his fingers through Buck’s hair and cups the back of his neck as the broader man pulls them back together. They can kiss like this for hours. They have, kissed like this for hours. They revel in the slow slide of lips and cheeks and the way their breaths tickle the other when they're forced to come up for air, panting and giggling like fevered teens.
“When are the movers coming?” Eddie asks, words placed safely in the crook of Buck’s neck.
Buck pulls away and walks to the bar. A clipboard sits alone on the empty tableau. He flips through various pages: move out checklists, schedules, combinations and passcodes. “Movers at eleven for your place. Noon for storage. We’ll have to drop off the donations ourselves.”
Eddie checks the time. 7:48 am. With a small nod, he starts securing boxes and stacking them appropriately. “And your furniture?”
“Ravi, mostly. Have it on the route for the storage movers.”
They mill about, getting the loft ready for inspection and Buck’s items ready for transport. A box of items from Buck’s bedroom sits open at the base of the stairs, marked for storage. Eddie grabs the tape and moves to secure it. He idly thumbs through Buck’s things, curious as to what parts of the other man Buck thinks need to be stored away instead of incorporated into their home. A bark of a laugh escapes him as he spots one particularly interesting item.
“What’s this?” Eddie asks, humor in his voice as he stands and shows Buck the wine coloured collar from the bachelor party. Buck looks up, coughs, and jerks his gaze back to the clipboard. Eddie can already see the blush coloring his cheeks. He spins the collar around his finger as he saunters toward the flustered man. “You kept this.” His words are not a question. His tone is full, dripping with intensity.
“I-Eddie,” Buck stammers.
“Yes… Buck,” Eddie coos, the fabric still spinning on his finger.
Buck swallows and clatters the clipboard on the countertop. “It’s a souvenir?” he questions with a small squeak.
“Right.” Eddie stretches the single syllable till it might snap.
“Fine,” Buck blusters in a fluster of exaggerated limbs. “I kept it because I was an idiot for not realizing how good you looked in it.” His cheeks practically match the hue of the fabric as he whispers. “I let my imagination fill in the image.”
Eddie looks at his watch, then at the stairs. “You know… we still have a couple hours till the movers get here.” He spins the collar around his finger one more time. “One more memory for the road?”
He’s barely finished the question before Buck’s hoisted him in a fireman’s carry toward the stairs.
Lord he loves this man.

Buddie Week day 7: hurt/comfort, "please don't leave"
Buck never told the team about having chronic pain, but then he gets a flare-up at the station.
--
A heavy pain floods through his veins and magnifies in his knee – or so it feels like. It takes him by surprise as he is mid-step. “Fuck!” His voice echoes through the room as he stumbles and basically falls down. His already painful knee hits the corner of a step, making him let out a cry of pain.
“Buck?!” Bobby is the first next to him, “Kid, what happened?”
Buck wants to answer, he really does, but he can’t breathe. Tears swell in his eyes as he tries to catch his breath, his heart beating so fast that it feels like it could just break out of his chest any second.
“Buck?” Eddie is in front of him now, but his face is blurry. “Hey, breathe, it’s me. It’s okay, I’m here. You’re safe. You’re in the firehouse. Take a deep breath.”

summary : He doesn't hear the front door open. He doesn't hear the sound of a bag being dropped to the floor in the living room, does not hear the floor creaking in the hallway between the living room and the kitchen. In fact, Buck doesn’t notice anything until a strong, warm pair of arms circles his waist and lips find their way into the crook of his neck.
“Hi, baby.”
Buck drops everything in the sink, turning around so fast he almost hit Eddie in tyhe face with his elbow. He’s got a shocked look on his face, his mouth open like a fish out of water. He makes a sound that could, if one were to tease him, sound like a squeal.
“Oh my god,” he whispers, still in shock, “You said you might stay another week,” he immediately says, disbelief in his voice.
Eddie shrugs, his cheeks slightly turning pink, “I thought I’d surprise you.”

For @911buddieweek prompt "Please don't leave"
A misunderstanding and lack of communication leads Buck to believe he has overstayed his welcome on Eddie's couch. He couldn't be more wrong.
Read on Ao3 or below the cut!
Buck fears he’s overstayed his welcome. Ever since he lost his lease, he’s been crashing on Eddie’s couch.
Of course, Bobby and Athena offered him an empty room, but he opted for his safe space—to be closer to his 2 best friends in the whole world.
At first, it seemed like Eddie and Christopher loved having him around. Every night was game night, Buck got to have bedtime chats with Christopher until he fell asleep and then he’d end the night with a beer with Eddie. They’d talk about how things were with Tommy and Marisol and in the mornings they’d get ready for the day together.
Buck had found comfort in this routine.
Now, three weeks in, and the routine seemed to change abruptly. It was less Buck, Christopher and Eddie time, and more Buck and Christopher time. At first, Buck assumed Eddie was spending more time with Marisol, until Eddie came home one evening, vaguely mentioned breaking up with her and kept his distance ever since.
Buck thought Eddie was sulking, but it seemed more like Eddie was being completely avoidant of Buck.
Buck would wake up some mornings to a completely silent house. Eddie and Christopher started doing their morning routines without him, because Eddie told Christopher to stop waking Buck.
It was heartbreaking, to say the least. Buck assumed perhaps he should have taken Bobby and Athena up on their offer, and he was beginning to hope it wasn’t too late.
He didn’t want Eddie to resent him.
As he moped on the couch in deep thought, he received a text from Tommy, inviting him out to lunch.
Buck hoped a date would take his mind off of Eddie.
It did not.
In fact, Buck spent most of their date talking about Eddie, and Tommy was beginning to pick up on a vibe he’d suspected from the very beginning.
“…And we would have beer together—every single night. Then, he breaks up with Marisol and just…" Buck shrugs "starts avoiding me. Maybe—what if I had something to do with the breakup? What if they broke up because of me crashing on his couch? What if I’m in the way somehow and—“
Tommy placed a gentle hand on top of Buck's and gave him a serious gaze, hoping to reel him in.
“Evan. I think you’re a little oblivious to what’s going on, but…I’m not.”
“W-what are you talking about? I have no idea what’s going on.”
“I know.” Tommy pulled his hand away. “But it’s clear you’re worried about more than losing your best friend, and Eddie may not be avoiding you because he’s sick of having you there.”
Buck shook his head. “I’m—I don’t understand.”
“Look, Evan, I’ve been having an amazing time with you, but I should have known better after seeing how the two of you are together.”
Buck narrowed his eyes in confusion, before they widened in disbelief. “Wa-wait, no! Eddie’s straight. He—he only likes women.”
“Does he?” Tommy raised a brow.
Buck nodded emphatically. “Catholic guilt and everything.” He nervously chuckled.
Tommy silently chuckled and stood from the table. “Listen. I see where this is going already, and I just don’t wanna get caught in the crossfire. I had a great time with you, Evan. I wish you the best of luck.”
“But—Tommy!”
“No hard feelings, kay? I promise. I know you’re still figuring yourself out.” Tommy smiled before placing some money on the table and exiting the restaurant.
Buck hung his head down, sighing to himself. He had no idea what the hell was going on, or why any of this was happening. He was suddenly being pushed away by everyone he cared about and it terrified him.
Why was he so unwanted?
Tumblr media
Buck returned to Eddie’s and was greeted by Christopher.
“Buck! We got pizza!” Christopher beamed.
“Oh yeah?" Buck smiled warmly. "Sounds delicious, buddy.”
“We saved you some.” Eddie shouted from the kitchen. “I wasn’t too sure if you’d be back before lunch was over.”
“I…kinda went out for lunch but, well, we didn’t eat much.”
“Why, what happened?”
“Tommy said we shouldn’t see each other anymore so…”
“What?” Eddie surfaced from the kitchen, brows furrowed in concern. “Why’d he say that? I thought things were great with you guys!”
“Me too, but I guess not.” He shrugged as he sat beside Christopher at the table. “Thanks for saving me a slice.”
“We saved you 3!” Christopher corrected. “You always eat 3.”
Buck smiled widely. “That’s—that’s true. I do always eat 3.”
Buck could hardly stomach one slice, but he pushed his way through it until Christopher got bored of sitting at the table and went off to play in his room.
Eddie sat across from him. “I know that look. He hurt you, didn’t he?”
“A little. I’m just more confused than anything.” Buck suddenly stood from the table. “I need to go do something. I’ll uh…be back later.”
Eddie gave him a nod. “See you later.”
Tumblr media
“…and then Tommy left.” Buck had just finished explaining everything to Bobby and Athena.
“Why did Eddie and Marisol break up?” Bobby wondered.
“I have no idea. Eddie never told me.”
“That’s unusual. Doesn’t Eddie tell you everything?” Athena questioned.
“Yes! That’s why I found it weird, too.”
“Maybe Tommy was onto something.” Bobby added.
“Not you too. Look, I told you. Eddie’s straight as straight can be.”
“Oh yeah? Is he an ally like you?” Athena quipped, sipping her coffee as Bobby snickered.
“I just—I don’t know what to do. It feels like nobody wants me around anymore. I-I’m actively looking for a place. I just need some time—“
“Well, you’re always welcome here. We’ve got a spare room you can have anytime.” Bobby reassured, patting Buck’s shoulder.
Buck half-smiled, unable to ignore the strange, aching feeling in his heart.
Tumblr media
Buck returned to Eddie’s and began to pack his belongings while Eddie was having an evening chat with Christopher.
Those nightly chats had been Buck’s thing with Christopher for the past few weeks, but it seemed like he simply wasn’t needed or wanted around the Diaz household anymore, so it was time to go.
“Hey, Buck. You're back! Straightening up?” Eddie asked.
“No I was uh…packing up, actually.”
“W-what, why?” Eddie asked, a deep frown on his face.
“I feel like I may have overstayed my welcome. You’ve been avoiding me lately and I figured maybe I’m the cause of the strain on your relationship with Marisol, so—I just wanna go before I ruin our friendship.”
Eddie sighed. “C'mon. Stop packing. Sit down with me.”
Buck stopped stuffing his belongings into the boxes and plopped down on the couch.
Eddie joined him, handing him a beer.
They clanked their bottles together and took a few sips in silence.
Buck missed these moments, but tonight felt unusually tense and caused his stomach to twist in knots. He desperately wanted to open his mouth and say something first, but what? What could he say?
“Please don’t leave.” Eddie spoke up suddenly.
Buck’s eyes widened as his head snapped in Eddie’s direction. “W—you want me to stay?”
“Yeah. I really do.”
“But—what about Marisol? Didn’t you break up with her because of me? Because I’m staying here?”
“We didn’t break up because of you. Well—“ Eddie stopped to correct himself. “We didn’t break up because you’re staying here.”
“So…" Buck narrowed his eyes. "Why did you break up?”
There was a drawn out silence that made Buck feel uneasy. Eddie wouldn’t even look at him, but Buck stared—hard. Watching as Eddie sipped his beer and slouched over, noticing how he began to fidget and sigh heavily.
“She got tired of me talking about you. I didn’t even realize how much I was talking about you.” Eddie chuckled. “She said it felt like you’d become part of our relationship over the past few weeks.”
Buck scoffed. “So, what, she was jealous of me? That’s weird. She’s always known how close we were. That was never a problem before.”
“You weren’t openly bisexual before.”
A heavy silence fell upon them again. Buck feared that coming out would bring the exact trouble he feared it would.
“Does she have a problem with that?” He warily asked.
“It’s not that either.” Eddie began to explain, gripping his beer tightly. “She…sees you as a threat. She thinks I have feelings for you.”
Buck began to laugh nervously. “That’s—Tommy said the same thing. That’s why he broke up with me. I tried to explain to him that it’s ridic—“
“I do, though.” Eddie blurted out. “I always did. I tried to write it off as a little crush and push it down as far as I could because I’ve always known myself to be straight. I just figured it was an intense feeling because we’re so close, y’know? I’ve never been this close to any friends of mine. But then you came out, and I started to feel things again.” Eddie groaned. “I don’t wanna ruin our friendship either.”
Buck froze, his eyes wide with disbelief. “You have feelings for me?”
Eddie let out a sound, something Buck found cute and pathetic, reminiscent of a puppy's whimper. He rested his head in his hand. “I don’t want to mess this up. I don’t wanna lose you. I don’t want Christopher to lose you. I thought long and hard about what Marisol said and I realized—I love you in ways I don’t even understand.” Eddie laughed upon his confession. “I have…always loved you.”
Buck sighed. “Sometimes I felt this…weird soulmate attachment to you. Like we’re meant to be together, but I thought it was a—bro thing, y’know?”
“Exactly. That’s what I thought.”
Their eyes met, and all their feelings surfaced at once, hitting them both like an oncoming train.
Buck’s hand tingled with the desire to touch Eddie’s, and Eddie felt the same.
He moved his hand closer to Buck’s, and Buck let his pinky touch Eddie’s.
They continued to sit in silence, their pinkies now intertwined.
“I don’t know what to do.” Eddie admitted. “But please. Please don’t leave.”
“I won’t. We’ll figure this out.”
Eddie held Buck’s hand. Lovingly, but fearfully. Loving Buck was dangerous work, maybe more dangerous than any call they ever responded to. He had half of his entire world in one hand, while the other half slept peacefully.
“What if we…did this and then broke up?”
Buck chuckled. “Already planning to break up with me before we get this started?”
“No! I would never break up with you. I know you better than anybody. Love you more than anybody too.”
“You say that so naturally, and yet you’re so afraid. But I get it. I’m afraid too. But I think—maybe—I love you more than anybody else, too.”
“So what do we—“
“Let’s just…do what we normally do, but without having to hide our feelings from each other.”
“But what if I can’t contain my feelings? What if I really wanna kiss you?”
“Then kiss me. Whenever you’re ready.”
Eddie kissed Buck’s hand, surprising them both. “See you in the morning?”
“Yeah. Goodnight.”
The firefighters went to sleep without a care in the world, unexpectedly relieved that they were able to realize their feelings.

Over the next few days, hand kisses became cheek kisses and flirtatious smiles became blatant flirting.
“Good morning.” Eddie greeted as he made his way into the kitchen. “What’re we having for breakfast?” He mumbled into Buck’s shoulder.
“You, if you don’t get away from the stove while I’m cooking.” Buck joked, gently nudging Eddie away.
“Oh, yeah? You can have me for breakfast anytime.”
They exchanged mischievous glances before Eddie exited the kitchen, giving Buck space to work.
As much as they enjoyed the foolishness, things were getting pretty serious, and different desires were awakening in them.
This wasn’t the first time they’d flirt, and it wouldn’t be the last.
Tumblr media
Days passed, and Buck and Eddie (who still haven’t kissed yet, mind you) would playfully grab and spank each other’s asses, telling themselves this high school sweetheart phase between them was all good fun, but deep down they knew, they knew how badly they wanted to put their hands all over each other.
Eddie found himself going to the gym more often to work off his…pent up stress.
Buck, of course, had his own wants and needs, but he was too busy focusing on how much he adored Eddie and wanted to kiss his stupid face, but he didn’t want to make the first move. He’d already had his experience with a man—a patient man at that. He wanted to give Eddie the same amount of space and patience that he was given, no matter how difficult it was.
Tumblr media
But enough was enough. It was enough for Eddie, and it was enough for Buck.
After their shift, they went home to an empty, quiet place. Christopher was at a sleepover at Hen and Karen’s, leaving the two of them alone to…sort out their…problems, if you’d even call it that.
“Hey, Eddie, listen—“ Buck couldn’t even finish his sentence before he was pulled in for a kiss. It was hot and heavy and delicious. Eddie was pressed so closely to him, he could feel his heart beating out of his chest.
They remained chest to chest, their hearts beating asynchronously as they kissed and kissed and kissed with no one rushing to pull away. They’d already said all they needed to say before. This was all about action.
Eddie realized he always wanted to kiss Buck. He’d never been able to kiss anyone like this—like it was the last time his lips would ever touch lips. His first kiss felt like hello and goodbye all at the same time and he had no desire to let Buck get away.
Eventually, they needed to part for air, but only created slight distance, their sweaty foreheads pressed to one another’s.
“What took you so long?” Buck heaved, laughing softly.
Eddie exhaled, slowly shaking his head. “I dunno, but that was really worth the wait.”
“Yeah.” Buck agreed, their hands intertwining in the darkness.
“I guess we should get your stuff out of storage, huh?”
Buck smiled. “Maybe some other time. I’ve got something...else I need to unpack.” He said, leading Eddie to the bedroom.
Looks like Buck won’t be sleeping on the couch ever again.

I like shiny things but I'd marry you with paper rings
wc: 4304
Finding Eddie was the best thing that could have ever happened to him. From having each other's back at work to being each other's family, Eddie was everything Buck always wanted but was never brave enough to dream for. Being with Eddie was not being trapped in a box or flying high and falling hard, it was like finally getting a chance to breathe all while knowing that Eddie was right beside him. Being with Eddie was knowing what it was like to live and my God did Buck love that. He loved Eddie, he loved Eddie so damn much that it felt as natural as breathing. He loved Eddie but he also started to love the version of himself that loved Eddie. He loved Eddie and this time he dreamed, dreamed and dreamed again.
One where Buck and Eddie are married and the firefam finds about it.
