i like to think everyone has a colour associated with them, whether its just your fave colour or what you generally wear most of or what colour your bedroom walls are. i always associate the name sophie with dark blue, my mum is always a nice turquoise, i like to think my colour is a bright sunflower yellow.

Okay, somebody can correct me if I'm wrong- but at the end of The Nigerian Job, when the team was convincing Nate that they should keep doing what they did- Eliot's whole argument was Nate. Nate falling apart. Nate needing the chance. Nate not being able to walk away. Nate.

Then, suddenly Eliot became the whole team's body guard. (Something he's grunt and gruffed about.) Yet. Yet. Somewhere (I say it was The Iceman Job and The Inside Job,) Eliot's brain switched from protecting the team to protecting Hardison and Parker. (Again correct me if I'm wrong.) Suddenly his job became more about having Hardison and Parker's back than having Nate's back. Maybe I'm the only one whose noticed- but Eliot become more softer with both Hardison and Parker after those particular jobs. Sure he keeps that gruff, sarcastic wit about him but there's often tones of... protectivness(?) when he interacts with them. Almost like he's telling other people around them- whose in ear shot- that Hardison and Parker are his. Like he's possessive.

Now, I'm not saying Eliot just stops caring about the rest of the team. I mean- he beats up Sterling for Nate and in Redemption Eliot is following Sophie around a handful of times. Their are even times where he has Breanna's back and Harry's. But he seems to treat those situations like a case. He compartmentalizes those situations. With Hardison and Parker- he doesn't. It's like his brain won't let him. He sees Hardison and Parker and it's like- all bets are off.

And on the flip side- has anyone noticed that Parker and Hardison seem to be the only ones that know how to... defuse (is that the right word?) Eliot? Like even Maria couldn't get Eliot to relax in The Hurrican Job. (Of course that's probably because Eliot was hiding who he was to her.) But Eliot always seems to be more relaxed when he's around those two.

In The Iceman Job after when Hardison tries to hug him? Eliot wasn't really fighting it. (I would know- I do that to my brother ALL the time when he tries to hug me.) In The Inside Job- when Eliot went to attack that employee- Parker stopped him. In The Double-Edge Sword Job, when Eliot is furious because an abusive ex comes after a women that they tried to hide- it's Parker that calms him down. It's Hardison who pays off the bartender when Eliot attacks Sterling. It's Parker who is always by his side or close to it. It's Parker who trusts Eliot when their in the back of the van with Vance. (Yes, Parker trusts Hardison too, but Hardison is a hacker- not a protector.) It's Eliot who Hardison listens to when he's not confident. It's Eliot who grabs Hardison from the coffin. It's Eliot who crouchs behind Hardison as Parker flips around him. It's Eliot whose hands are shaking when he they have half a second on a bomb.

Eliot Spencer is Hardison's and Parkers. They own him. In the same way Hardison and Parker are his. He owns them. (Does that make sense?)

For the record- I don't know why I'm pointing all of this out. It's just interesting to me... I guess.

alrighty everyone !! as of typing this, 2024 (ew...) is only a few minutes away and i wanted to send a little message to whoever may be reading this.

the most important thing i want to say is this: i'm proud of you for making it to the new year. it's been a tough year, and we have all had our own difficulties to overcome, with some being more dire than others. no matter how trivial you may think the hurdle has been, that doesn't dismiss the courage it took to get past it and grow from the experience. thank you for not giving up and persevering through another year <3

i feel like we don't know enough about the enlightened language

Like is it literally the only language that elves speak ?? Are there different dialects ??? Are there any other languages??? Do elves learn any human languages??

You're so right, language is such a fascinating part of culture and characterization and development. On a broader scale of what language is dominant (if any) in a culture, the words and phrases they use and how they interact. On a smaller scale of what language(s) a character speaks, what ones they want to speak, if they find language interesting or if they're more visual. It's such an interesting thing and keeper barely brushes the surface!

Since the language is instinctual, all elves speak it at birth, it doesn't seem like there are any other elven languages. It's just Enlightened. That's it. They can learn other languages, and that includes human languages, but I don't think many elves have reason to learn human languages. And pretty much only those who work in the nobility would need to learn other languages (like ogreish, trollish, etc.) because otherwise basically their only exposure to other species is when they come to the Lost Cities. And the other species will speak the Enlightened language. And if it isn't necessary, why would they ever learn those other languages when they have their superior language? Obviously not all elves think like that, but many do.

The only/main changes to the language would be personal changes, if one specific person starts referring to something uniquely or speaking in a different way. But the language won't develop over time the way ours do, because any personal changes an elf makes when speaking won't be passed on to their children who know it instinctually. They could learn it and pick up on it, but the language as they know it from birth wouldn't include those alterations. They're starting at square one every time; the language seems very likely to be stagnant and universal.

I'm also super jealous of the polyglots though I'd love to be better with languages and they're just out here. Doing it super easily. No effort at all. I'm fluent in one language and kinda proficient in 2 others but like. please, being a polyglot would make it so much easier </3

NO SRSLY ur so right like. It rlly hit me a while ago how so interesting it is that Sophie resembles her dad so closely in both appearance and personality while having really basic impersonal memories about him like u said . even picking up his own bad habits (obv we r not sure yet When orWhy or if it’s even a purposeful connection but going back 2 what Martin said on stream that one time abt how she will pick up smoking) . It can be assumed Jack died without closure or justice for what happened to his family and Sophie is almost like this figure of. Like. IDK carrying on the shit that Jack could not do . like she is this living repetition of the past . or at least that’s how I see it LUL I kind of went off track on the last bit but u get the gist ur just like. Very right pointing out their connection n when people erase details of that connection esp in physical similarities it’s just dumb like why

YESS to all of this. i think about this stuff a lot. i know i phrased that post like 'why do people do this' but the reason it happens really is just. misogyny and the perpetuation of white eurocentric beauty standards. Like even if people aren't actively thinking 'sophie is a girl which means she needs to be conventionally attractive, which means she's not allowed to have a big nose or curly hair or thick eyebrows (all features she seemingly inherited from her father, with the possible exception of curly hair because rose has curly hair too,)' their decision to erase those features is a product of that same cultural mindset.

Obviously for people who refuse to depict either Sophie OR Jack with those features it's tied mostly to racism and a refusal to let characters you like be """unattractive""", but it's specifically when Sophie's features are erased but not Jack's that it ties into misogyny for me. And that's by no means a problem unique to the walten files fandom, it just especially sucks that there's a lot of interesting correlation between Sophie and Jack that ends up collateral damage for weird fandom bigotry.

#ask #if i had to hazard a guess for why sophie starts smoking i'd say she does it as a way to self-medicate for stress and anxiety. #i have to imagine she'd have a serious aversion to like. prescribed medicine. after everything #the biggest visual correlation between them that i think about though is that she has his smile #but she rarely ever smiles. its just like. i dont even know how to articulate it #but as a concept it's really striking and really heart-wrenching. #her smile looks like his. if she'd ever show it.
