omg how did you acquire all of them? i've been collecting them for years, scouring used book stores and such, and i only have 30 or 40 or so. (i notice a lot of copies of the hork bajir chronicles and visser turn up in used bookstores... maybe bc they're hardcover? more durable?)

You're probably right about the hardcovers. Cates and I have two nearly-complete collections between us through some combination of carefully preserving the ones we got from Scholastic book fairs, scouring every used bookstore and library sale, and resorting to eBay for the obscure ones. I didn't find copies of #37 or #48 until I was over 15 years into collecting, I think because those are both thinner volumes, and #25 seems to have been released as some kind of special edition so that there are just fewer copies out there.

Other tricks I've picked up:

Talk to your local librarian and mention that you'd like to buy any damaged copies of any of the books that would otherwise get removed from circulation. They may or may not be willing to take down your contact information with a note to call you before they throw out any Animorphs, but I've used that trick before and it got me a (battered but legible) copy of #38.

See if any used bookstores are also collectors — they're often happy to keep a running list of "this person will buy any copy of XYZ books I can get my hands on" and Animorphs is an easy ask compared to, say, first editions of Mary McCarthy novels.

eBay. If it works, it works. You'll pay an arm and a leg, but everything is on eBay. And unlike Amazon, you can guarantee you'll either get what you pay for or you'll get a full refund.
