#hadestown #art #my art #tag ramble as promised: #firstly #i’ve been thinking about redoing this as digital art #(like - mostly the same but cleaner and with some of the details fixed) and probably will if i have time #because i like this composition a lot #but! for now i am oddly happy with how this turned out despite being traditional art/watercolor (no undo button. sobs.) #and it Is a noteworthy day for hadestown with lola tung and lillias white departing #(this is Not meant to celebrate them specifically - i used the obc as reference not them - i just think it’s a nice day symbolically) #so i thought i’d put this out. whatever. yknow. #oh a second thing i will say is that this was a great excuse to check out the slime tutorials on youtube #i spent like 9 or something hours on this :/ so. plenty of time to have things on in the background while i was working. we love slime #thirdly! two things i feel like are worth mentioning rq for Symbolism: #wait for me reprise (intro) originally having wedding procession imagery (from anaïs mitchell in working on a song) #is what first made me desperately want to put the flower/petals on the edges (it still fucking haunts me) #though it was a solid composition choice in general i think #and i mean. clearly the carnation should be prominent. it’s the carnation. from hadestown. #i don’t think the wedding procession reference comes across the way it turned out but that was the first thought #NEXT ouroboros. the snake devouring its own tail (i legitimately forgot that this was why i first drew the rattlesnake that way but #fundamentally i really did just want its tail and head to point to each other lmao)

i watched kimmy's bye smosh video and tbh i don't think much of it. it reads a touch bittersweet but kimmy doesn't seem to be wording things in a way that implies something more nefarious behind the scenes. she said she "decided to transition" to producing. she missed performing and an opportunity came up that led to her leaving smosh; none of this really indicates to me that she wasn't allowed to do what she truly wanted at smosh. to me it just sounds like the timing was right for her and it made more sense for her to move on rather than try and change up her role in smosh again.

the only thing that was interesting to me upon first watch was when she says she won't spill any tea, then right after she details that some of her best friends *still* work at smosh, which to me gives off the impression that she won't share anything because she still has emotional stake in the company.

i think kimmy is a strong, capable woman who would speak up about her horrible experiences had they happened, but her making a mostly upbeat and positive-leaning update video tells me that the split was likely more amicable than not.

honestly yesod has grown on me IMMENSELY since i first ran through the game. its hard to explain but Thats Yesod My Friend Yesod. If Anyones Mean To Him Im Attacking With Teeth. hes like a small animals, to me. one that will probably nip at you but you love him anyway.

it took me a few runs through to finally click about his storyline in lc but MAN. Man...... i do adore the way that they weaved together his thought processes with prior events (specifically how malkuth's meltdown happens directly before his, much the same as elijah's death directly precedes gabriel's spiral.)

its also the simplicity of it, for lack of a better term. it was a quiet line of development from That to his own breakdown, but its also a very Clear one. it matches up perfectly with the narration of "we didn't immediately see the effects, but it must've been that he was always suffering because of it." like yeah, that Would be hard to notice if you didnt pry; yet that rotting Does in fact run deep. its choice of word and presentation was frankly perfect for what it was. it Feels as it Was. its a hard line to nail.

in all though, his character is just very satisfying to watch. seeing past simply "Hes The Mean Strict One" provides an extra element to pretty much Everything he does, and it makes him very very easy to sympathize with. the progression from lc to ruina honestly feels very natural in that way; and hes another one thats very nice to watch make the transition-- because it really does tie his entire presentation together.

it doesnt hold back on his anger towards the situation, nor is it the entirety of how he feels about it. critical, yes, but not to the point of stubbornness; to the point of disregarding everything else. it makes me happy to see him handle things the way he does. he changes, yes, but he still holds true to what makes him who he is; and i couldnt be happier about it.

what i love about s7/totj ahsoka is that she …moves slower? like maybe it’s just the animation change, but looking at her in that style makes me feel calmer?? like she’s definitely chilled out a shit ton. which, of course, she’s older and went through some tough shit, but it really makes the weight of what happened to her catch up. she moves slower. she takes longer to deliberate. she’s guarded. she’s still hot headed, but it feels like every movement is calculated and precise. idk how to describe it
