#c!sam be like: keeping dream in prison >>>>>

why do you think Dream told Sam 'all about exile'? obviously, this didn't lead to pleasant consequences for him
it's interesting, right? especially because--while exile wasn't exactly the most unknown thing at that time--it's far from the highlight of c!dream's Villain Actions in the majority of the dsmp population's collective consciousness, at this point. it's been about a month since c!tommy ran away from exile, and since then c!Dream has done Doomsday and then the staged finale. for someone like c!sam, it makes a lot more sense for c!dream to judge him as caring more about how Fran would've been taken as leverage in the disc vault, or how their old home together the community house was blown up by dream. while i have no doubts that c!sam would've interrogated c!dream about exile anyway, c!dream didn't have to tell him "all about it" in a way that had c!sam completely horrified within that first week. and frankly, no matter what cruelty c!sam might've already been up to, c!dream wasn't going to crack to the point of confessing anything he didn't want to confess over the course of like, five days in the very beginning of the prison arc.
so why does he? i'm sure he'd give you a whole host of rational reasons. c!tommy can't keep his mouth shut, obviously, so he assumed that c!tommy would spill the beans sooner or later. provoking c!sam from the getgo gives him a good idea of what to expect from the rest of his stay here, which will help him navigate the situation in an optimal way. mentioning c!tommy affects c!sam obviously, emotionally, which keeps him too off-balance to think about any logical inconsistencies in things like the staged finale and ever suspecting that c!dream wanted to be in the prison in the first place. if he's forthcoming about this Terrible Crime, then c!sam will be too focused on interrogating him about tommy to ask questions about the revive book, or vikkstar and lazar, or punz. and so on.
they're good enough reasons. valid reasons, sure. c!dream is very good at coming up with lists of rational reasons behind his actions, objective courses of actions that leave him firmly in control. c!dream also--in the process of the plan to put himself in the prison--dies at least five times, as far as we know of, and likely many more (if we are to believe that he did experiments on his own limbo pre-prison, which i think we Should, considering the circumstances, then he needed to lose his initial three lives to even test the revive book on him, not to mention however it was that he got another three lives in order to lose two in the staged finale) and starts swimming in the lava not even 24 hours into his imprisonment. just because a reason makes the most sense or is the most rational doesn't make it the real reason why c!dream does much of anything, which is something he never quite gets around to admitting to himself.

Tips For Writing C!TommyInnit, From A Loser With Brainrot
Tommy is LOUD. Whether he's angry or excited or playing around, he's usually yelling. He is not aware of how loud he is unless he's specifically raising his voice to overpower the conversation (which he usually only does when he's angry at someone/thing, or to make a point). He's only quieter when he's serious, at peace, or very very sad
TOMMY IS SMART!!! He thinks things through when he has time to do so. He is strategic and considers other people's behaviors when he plans something out (ex building the tower overlooking the prison slowly, so Sam didn't get as suspicious, and making a point to only inhabit it when it was dark to be less noticed). Tommy knows how people act/think if he's familiar with them, and he uses that to his advantage.
However, Tommy's very impulsive, and his emotions overrun his brains very often. This happens the most when he's angry or scared.
Tommy lets people take pity on him 80% of the time. Unless it's a serious situation and he's trying to prove himself, (ex Logstedshire) he LOVES free shit and he very easily falls into the "oh poor little TommyInnit, he has no family to his name and is dirty and cold, won't you spare some netherite for his poor soul?" narrative.
Tommy is childish. He bickers over things that don't really matter and is the epitome of "he started it!!" when he gets in trouble. He also constantly nags at people until they cave to get what he wants. I have no idea how CC!Tommy plays being a youngest sibling SO WELL since he's an only child but that is exactly who C!Tommy is
Tommy is not brave. He hides behind people to avoid danger and he runs away from conflict if he can. The times where this didn't happen (Exile, Final Disc Confrontation, November 16th) were because he was backed into a corner, literally or figuratively, and was forced to fight back.
more under the cut bc this got very long lmao
Tommy is not very private UNLESS it concerns his past trauma. He will talk about what he's doing, every thought in his head, and what he thinks of everything he sees, UNLESS it's recounting what happened to him. Getting information like that from the source is like pulling teeth, even for people he trusts completely. The reasoning for this (best as I can tell anyway) is that he simply just doesn't want to relive it.
Tommy has a very black and white way of thinking about his allies. If someone helps his enemy, they are his enemy too. He doesn't really care about personal motivations or reasonings unless they're close to him (Tubbo) and he does not forgive easily.
However, he also recognizes power. When Tommy ran from Logstedshire, he ran to the person who killed his best friend because he knew Technoblade was very powerful against Dream. Another example is when he ran to Phil when Dream escaped prison and went after him, even though Phil destroyed L'manburg WITH Dream AND killed Wilbur, two things that Tommy vehemently hates him for. Tommy seemed to not be thinking very clearly when either of these events happened, so this may have been a purely impulsive decision made out of fear.
Tommy squirrels away his riches. He only breaks into his ender chest when he really needs the resources, ie diamond armor and weapons for a showdown. He actually has quite a lot of diamonds and gold if I recall correctly, but he still resorts to stone/iron tools and no armor in his day to day.
Kind of related to above, Tommy keeps momentos of people he cares about in his ender chest, where no one can reach them but him. He is terrified of losing these things because they remind him of when times were good, and he had people he loved. (This was actually said by him, I just don't remember the stream sorry ;;w;;)
Tommy is very stubborn. He doesn't cooperate very often and views the way he does things as the best way. The only time to my memory that he defaulted to someone else was when Wilbur was alive (L'manburg, Pogtopia)
Tommy likes maintaining his surroundings. This includes harvesting crops and replacing them, patching up creeper holes, and replacing missing blocks from his house or the Prime Path. He does these things without anyone telling him to, on his "down time" if you will, and doesn't really call attention to it
TOMMY LOVES ANIMALS. He doesn't like killing them and tries to eat carrots instead of killing for meat (although he doesn't seem to have qualms with eating meat that other people give him)
Tommy has a soft spot for kids/small creatures. He tried very hard to hate Michael because he was bitter about Ranboo and Tubbo's friendship but he broke almost instantly if I remember correctly. He fawns over "cute" things and gets thoroughly distracted from whatever he was doing if he notices a baby chicken or something
Tommy is rarely still. He almost always is doing something with his hands (ie building, chopping trees, etc) if he's in conversation with someone. The only times where he actually sits down and stops is when he's watching the sunset on his bench, or having a self reflection moment/processing heavy information.
I'll stop here, but I plan on making another post that more goes into his speaking mannerisms and whatnot. I hope this helps somebody trying to write C!Tommy, feel free to send me an ask if you have specific questions!!

quick rundown on my 'from eden' au:
it's kind of another take on 'rabbit run' with some differences like playing with the idea of a populated smp.
c!dream is trans and a rabbit hybrid and was very secretive about his identity leading to like. no one knowing this about him.
c!sam denies any visitors into the prison until c!quackity convinces him to allow q into the prison to torture dream.
at some point, things go too far, sam gets Weird About Dream, and begins building a replica cell on his island.
eventually sam parts ways with q and takes dream out of the prison to keep him on his island. he continues to pretend dream is in the prison.
q finds out, threatens to tell everyone, sam relents and lets q back to the replica cell to continue torturing dream. it's Very Weird, they're both so strange about the situation.
dream is locked up for about two years.
he eventually escapes, gets cornered by pillagers and saved by techno who is like 'yo why is there a strange bunny girl here'
dream lies to techno about who he is, not speaking, and techno believing this is a traumatized person needing help, shelters dream and keeps his presence secret. it's not ideal because dream is basically living as a woman which sucks but he's like 'well i'm not being tortured so'
six months pass and finally sam and q are forced to go public with the whole 'dream escaped' thing but uuhhhhh the whole thing is really weird! people (read techno and the syndicate) are suspicious. dream is fucking panicking.
he freaks out a lot, techno is trying to calm him down, and is suddenly like '.....wait. what does sam and quackity have to do with anything about you.' and dream is just🧍and techno goes 'bruh'.
techno promises that he won't turn dream in because he realizes that the state dream was in, which was pretty fucking horrific, was the result of what those two were doing to him.
eventually the whole thing gets outed a few months later, i haven't really planned this part out, it's not like. super important to me but the gist is techno and co. wreck their shit and are like 'you are very strange people here's a restraining order don't come within 5k blocks of dream or i'll kill you'
dream and techno finally get some time to actually explore their feelings for each other!!!!
it a bit for them to actually get together and then like two years before they have a very small informal wedding
four or five years after that they have kids!!! :D they're very cute and call phil 'grandpa' and niki and ranboo are like the fun aunt and uncle who get away with giving the triplets too much sugar or loud toys or whatever.
they live happily ever after. the end.

Tumblr media
You took the SMP by storm on the first day you appeared there
Everybody already knew about the famous vampire, who enchants everyone with their catchy songs and grungy looks
To hear that you were moving here had made everyone exited to meet you
They all just didn't expect you to be as mischievous as you were
Dream and Punz mostly stayed away from you, knowing that your other vampire form could probably kill them in an instant. But you liked to tease Punz from time to time, just to see the blood rise to his cheeks;
You visited Kinoko Kingdom a lot, mostly because the red mushrooms were a great way for you to stay fed, but you also enjoyed the George, Sapnap and Karl's company and vice versa;
Bad and you seemed to have completely hit it off, a demon/vampire friendship that no one expected. But since you are basically a second Skeppy, who's your best friend and the person you cause mischief with the most, it's no wonder you get along so well;
You, Wilbur and Quackity had a weird...dynamic. Alone, you got along with both of them, but the second you three are all togheter all hell breaks lose;
Phil and Techno were pretty friendly. You and Philza had bumped into eachother while on a flight many times, and you liked to tease Techno by sucking the red off of his cape;
Niki is basically the Princess Bubblegum to your Marcelline. You tease her, and she finds it annoying, but in the end you two are still very fond of eachother;
Eret was someone you were always scared of talking to. He reminded you so much of a person you had met when you were younger, so you could never find yourself to talk to him;
Another duo you teased is Foolish and Sam, especially Sam. Foolish was always too adorable to torture, so you would sometimes visit Sam in the prison and keep him company by causing a bit of chaos.

Thinking about c!Drunz in the convict childcare au again.
Because like, from c!Punz's perspective everything goes terrible. He was waiting for c!Dream to get out of the prison, and they had a plan, and then all of the sudden, c!Ranboo is dead and Dream is gone and he doesn't know what to do anymore.
What's worse is Punz knows that Dream isn't dead. If Dream was dead, this would be easy. Punz could bring him back, and then they'd go get their revenge! Dream being dead would be preferable to this.
The rest of the server (minus the syndicate and Badlands) is convinced that Dream has somehow taken Sam hostage, but Punz knows that can't be true, because Dream would've told him. So Punz is uniquely aware that Dream is absolutely alive and that Sam is keeping him hostage in secret for an unknown reason.
Punz doesn't know what's happened to Dream, and he's worried about the worst. He's searching obsessively but it's really hard given that he's still pretending to not be on Dream's side. So he's also trying to throw Quackity's group off the scent and trying to decide if he can trust the Syndicate or not.
In the end, the Syndicate finds Dream first. They don't tell anyone. Punz finds out after the rest of the server manages to catch up and find where Dream escaped from. And then Punz has to wait again. Because he can't going after the syndicate. He just has to hope that Techno will honor the favor in a meaningful way. He's stuck fearing the worst.
Eventually, Dream's awake and aware enough to get a message across. He's able to sweet talk one of Philza's crows into bringing Punz a short letter,
'alive, with syndicate, can't come meet up yet'
That's all it says, but Punz ends up sobbing in something between relief and exhaustion. The crow sticks around, a bit put off by the reaction to it's letter, but also feeling kinda nosy and wanting a response to carry back (and some peanuts. Dream promised Punz had peanuts and would share >:[ where are the peanuts Punz). Punz needs a hot minute to recover, but eventually manages to scrawl back a quick 'okay' and then find some treats to repay the bird for carrying the message.
It takes time before the two of them can meet up. Messages are dangerous, so they speak in vague terms. Punz knows Dream is injured, but there's something else keeping him with the Syndicate. Punz is wracking his brain trying to figure out what it could be. Is it Ranboo? Does Techno want Ranboo revived before he'll let Dream leave? Punz doesn't like to think that Techno would hold Dream hostage like that, but people change in grief.
When Punz can finally go see Dream, he travels light but he carries an End Chest with full equipment for both of them. His shulker is stacked with potions. He's ready for the worst.
In a sense, he finds it. Even with all the time to heal, Dream has obviously been tortured. Scars litter his body, and his hands shake. He struggles to stand on his own, and he's only just barely started putting on weight. Dream's been getting help, Punz can see that much. It's enough that he doesn't draw a sword against Techno. But it's still hard to see.
On some level, Punz was ready for that. The sight hits him full force, but he was ready for that.
He wasn't ready for the little scarred piglin toddler curled up next to Dream on the couch. Eyeing him with great suspicion.
Punz is cautious as he's introduced to Michael and Dream gives him a simplified explanation of what happened. From how the toddler is staying very firmly pressed up against Dream, one little hand clutched on his shirt, it's pretty obvious what's keeping Dream here. This is a harder problem to resolve.
Still, Punz makes the most of it. Once he's got an understand of the situation he gives Michael a grin and offers to tell him stories about Dream from when they were kids. Dream groans, but he's got a smile under there, and Michael is delighted to learn Caretaker Secrets (Techno won't admit to it, but he was 100% eavesdropping to also get the Dream Secrets).

I’ve been watching videos about Minecraft prisons (+ escapes) and now I’m just thinking about a DSMP au where c!Sam accidentally locks up Manhunt Dream instead of c!Dream. But he just keeps using glitches to get out.
Like for example when you log off a server and log back on you get three seconds of fire immunity. So Sam locks Dream in the vault, turns around to go do some security checks, and Dream immediately swims through the lava, completely unburnt and mildly peeved

I want to know about the ouroboros AUs very badly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The amount of words I'm about to type is gonna make me look INSANE but in my defense I had to think about this every day for like a YEAR OKAY.
Island AU Spiderette AU: This AU operates on the premise that the Vault considers any structure c!Sam builds with the intent to imprison someone as an extension of Pandora — an extra limb. In Ouroboros, Sam was planning to kidnap Michael and keep him at the island house in order to lure Ranboo to the prison (as in canon), but he doesn’t have a chance to actually go through with that plan because he gets distracted by, y’know, Pandora becoming a sentient eldritch horror. So basically, Island AU diverges from Ouroboros in the final chapter. When Dream fakes a suicide attempt to force the Vault to spit him and Sam out, Pandora doesn’t dump them in the prison lobby…it dumps them in Sam’s island house. Essentially, the Vault considers that house (which Sam intended to keep Michael in, ostensibly as a hostage) to be a type of prison, and thus, an extension of Pandora’s Vault. So, Sam takes the only course of action that makes sense to him: he treats Dream’s injuries and officially incarcerates him in the island house. It’s supposed to be temporary, but after a while Sam is resigned to the possibility that he may never return Dream to Pandora Proper. And y’know what? This is fine! This is fine, actually. Dream is still his prisoner, Sam can still be warden here.
In the beginning, the situation is very similar to his and Dream’s dynamic in Pandora. Sam keeps Dream in the little room meant for Michael. The house isn’t really set up for full-on incarceration, so Sam has to make modifications. He can’t exactly install a lava chamber, but he adds chains to the walls so he can keep the prisoner secure. Michael’s room doesn’t have space to add a desk or a cauldron or a toilet, so Dream must be permitted to leave a couple times a day. Dream moves around the house with Sam’s permission and occasionally helps with chores/maintenance/daily tasks (a freedom which Sam justifies as “prison labor” lmfao)
After a while, the two of them fall into a bizarre domesticity: they are essentially cohabiting, but Dream is still Sam’s prisoner and Sam is still Dream’s warden. It’s weird. It’s tense and awful, but it’s also kind of okay sometimes, compared to the prison. Dream eventually hatches a plan to escape, but things get complicated. Honestly, a lot of the “plot” for this AU hinges on the idea of Pandora’s sentience, and the fact that people in-the-know can basically fast-travel between buildings on the server as long as those buildings are limbs of Pandora. It gets very technical so I won’t bore y’all with all that.
Ouroboros Extended Cut AU: In this AU, c!Dream does not attempt to fake his own suicide in order to force Pandora to release him, as he does in Ouroboros. The idea occurs to him, but he has extreme reservations about actually going through with it: what if the plan works too well and he actually kills himself? These reservations aren’t unfounded, given the intense anxieties he has surrounding death in canon. Sam can’t revive him because he has not given Sam the book. So basically, Sam and Dream spend way, way, wayyyy longer trapped inside the prison. I’m talking at least another year or two. And the longer they spend there, the weirder shit gets. This AU leans really heavily into the horror elements of Ouroboros. Dream eventually figures out how to communicate effectively with the Vault. Sam also communicates with the Vault, but far less effectively because he’s Sam and he fucking sucks. There’s plenty of bizarre space-time continuum stuff. Also, the prison gets really good at recreating illusions of people who have spent a lot of time in the Vault in the past. The strongest illusions are capable of speech and sometimes even conversation, though they appear to have a limited variety of possible responses. Quackity is one of those people, but it’s Tommy’s illusion that’s the strongest because he wasn’t just resurrected inside Pandora (like Ghostbur), he actually died there as well.
As things get more horrifying inside the Vault, Sam and Dream become progressively more desensitized to that horror; it changes their dynamic somewhat, because they have to be pragmatic as hell if they want to make it out one day. The Vault wants to keep them alive, and yet is fundamentally hostile to living. Dream is allowed way more freedom (under Sam’s supervision) for reasons of mutual survival. He and Sam become more codependent. I probably will never write this AU down, but if I did, I’d want to incorporate a bunch of minecraft gameplay and environment elements from the big spooky 1.17 Caves & Cliffs update: the warden creatures, the ruins, the Deep Dark biome, the skulk, etc.
Timewarp AU: One of the big decisions I had to make when writing Ouroboros was whether time inside the prison should pass at the same rate as time passes outside the prison. If you’ve read the fic, you know that time inside the Vault passes slower after the prison gains sentience, so Sam and Dream spend months in there but only a few days have passed in the outside world. However, if I’d decided to have time pass in the prison at the same rate it passes on the rest of the server, that would mean Dream completely misses Techno’s rescue. In this AU, Techno shows up on 11/28 to break Dream out and finds the prison seemingly abandoned. After having a thorough look around, he leaves. His thought process: Dream must’ve found some other way to escape! Makes sense! If escape was possible, why would he wait for Techno?
Because of this, when Dream pulls his fake suicide stunt and forces the Vault to spit them out, his incarceration continues as normal because he missed the jailbreak. Ngl, this AU is pretty bleak because Dream is alone and locked up for a much longer period than in canon. (I actually ended up NOT going with this option when writing Ouroboros because my good friend aaron ringenthusiast told me very plainly that any version of events where Dream misses Techno’s big rescue was too depressing to contemplate!)
Eventually the Syndicate get suspicious, of course. It’s been over six months since the failed jailbreak and if Dream really did escape prior to that, it’s weird that he hasn’t tried to contact Techno or reach out to any other Syndicate members…right? Eventually, Phil and Techno are contacted by Punz, who’s forced to out themself as Dream’s ally because they haven’t heard from Dream in an alarming amount of time and are frankly confused. Tbh, I haven’t decided where this AU goes after that, but I think it’d be neat if Dream still gets rescued or maybe even escapes Pandora by himself somehow. I'm fond of stories where Dream is ultimately the one to save himself.
The final AU is Amnesia Island. It’s similar to Island AU Spiderette in that after the events of Ouroboros, Sam manages to move Dream from Pandora onto his island and imprisons him there. However, Dream is in really bad shape. In this version of events, his suicide fake-out was unsuccessful in that he accidentally does kill himself. The Vault still spits them out, but the blood transfusion comes too late and it looks like Dream is actually gonna die – bummer! That’s not what either of them wanted! Luckily, Sam has a secret: he’s already created a clone of Dream’s body (without his consent or knowledge, because of course.) So when Sam realizes Dream is gonna die FR fr, he uses the power of (canonical!) cool awesome unethical science to transfer Dream’s mind to the new body just before Dream dies. This all happens in the triage ward in Pandora. After the process is complete, he whisks his prisoner away to the island.
All should be well, theoretically. Except, uh oh! When Dream wakes up in his new body, he…isn’t Dream. At least, he isn’t Sam’s Dream. Something went wrong, either with the cloning process or the transfer of consciousness. New Dream has clearly got the same personality as old Dream, but minus the traumas he’s recently acquired. Huge chunks of his memory seem to be gone. He doesn’t recall who he is, who Sam is, L’Manberg, the Disc Saga, any of the events of the past couple years. It’s all gone.
Sam’s reaction to the amnesia is…messy. First, he doesn’t believe Dream, thinks he’s faking it. It takes an unpleasant interrogation to finally convince Sam that Dream really doesn’t remember anything. After denial comes anger: this version of Dream is both familiar and alien; he reminds Sam more of the man who built the Community House than the prisoner! Which means all the time and effort Sam spent conditioning the prisoner to fear him and respect him and obey him is wasted. Sam gave up parts of his soul for that deference, that submission. And now it’s just gone. He’s not happy about it. Next comes the bargaining, and finally, acceptance, or something that passes for acceptance until you hold it up to the light. According to Sam’s worldview, Dream is fundamentally corrupt. Even if amnesiac Dream doesn’t remember doing terrible things, he still did them, right? Which means Sam still has a responsibility to keep him locked up. The warden is still needed! This is a huge source of relief, since it preserves Sam’s self-concept.
Only…the situation is a bit more convoluted now. No version of Dream is innocent in Sam’s eyes, which means amnesiac Dream cannot be innocent. But the amnesia complicates things. For one, this Dream doesn’t have nearly as many reasons to fear and hate Sam, which means he’s openly affectionate — helpful, even. Sam appreciates that, and his appreciation throws a wrench in his plan to reincarcerate the prisoner. This is post-Ouroboros Sam, so he is aware on some level that he loves Dream, though he perceives that love as an unforgivable weakness. Not to mention he and Dream have been sleeping together for months and Sam misses that. Given these compounding factors, Sam opts not to punish Dream as frequently or as harshly as he did when they were in Pandora. It’s not that he regrets his former treatment of Dream (after all, Sam has never had any qualms about treating a lover sternly, has he?) but he does have a vested interest in encouraging Dream’s affection. He wants Dream to be obedient, and obedience is an easier thing to offer when you think you’re in love. So Sam does what he has to: he lies.
He doesn’t exactly tell Dream the two of them are married, not quite, but it’s heavily implied. Sam does everything he can to avoid verbally defining their relationship in such clear terms, while simultaneously doing all he can to make Dream believe that the two of them are in an established, committed relationship. It’s not so far from the truth, Sam tells himself. After all, what is the relationship between warden and prisoner if not committed?
In short, their life together on the island is fucked upppp. The two of them cohabitate and eventually resume sleeping together. Dream is not allowed to leave the house without Sam’s supervision, and he’s never allowed near the shoreline under any circumstances. He’s not allowed to send or receive letters or communications of any kind. Dream’s also forbidden from touching or picking up weapons and tools, lest he use them to harm someone (or himself. Sam has nightmares about watching Dream stab himself in Ouroboros.) The list of rules goes on, and the consequences for breaking them are…varied and creative. Dream understands, on some level, that Sam hurts him, that being around Sam is frightening and stressful. But Sam is also his partner, a man Dream thinks he loves. A man he feels comfortable with, sometimes. Dream has been told in simple terms that he’s dangerous, that he needs the warden’s guidance in order to keep everyone else safe. Dream doesn’t remember who “everyone else” is, but he has no reason to wish them ill, whoever they are. So he’s also grateful, in that sense, that Sam is willing to help him not hurt people. It is a gratitude that Sam has manufactured entirely, but it’s a powerful force nonetheless.
So, in summary, they’re codependent as hell and their life together is scary and bad. Don’t worry, it gets better but first it gets worse. As time passes, Dream feels more and more often that the way Sam treats him is unfair, which is objectively true. He has misgivings, but with very few concrete memories to base them on, these misgivings don’t serve him particularly well. However, after about a year of island living, his memories do start to come back gradually. This creates problems. Sam is quite happy with their new arrangement, so Dream’s memories coming back is a nightmare scenario for him. When he begins to notice little clues, it makes him incredibly paranoid, which in turn causes him to act…rashly. There is one notable incident where a bird dies by accidentally flying smack into a window, as birds sometimes do. Dream calmly picks it up and steps around the back of the house to bury it in the garden. But when Sam comes to check on him a few minutes later, he finds the bird alive and flapping, as if it was never hurt. Dream tells Sam he doesn’t remember how he brought the bird back to life; he can’t explain it, he just knew. Sam doesn’t believe him. It’s a rough night.
Of all the AUs, Amnesia Island is probably the one that’s rotted my brain the worst. It's definitely the most detailed so I could probably go on about it forever, but this post is already way too long so I’ll conclude by adding that in none of these AUs does Dream ever cave and give Sam the revive book. He’s holding onto that motherfucker, always and forever. Amen.

You can never look at the narrative and see c!Tommy as wanting to be a hero in the end. You just can't.
c!Tommy never wanted to be a hero. In the beginning c!Tommy did tout wanting "power" (the power tower arc with c!Ponk, scamming businesses, etc) but as a young kid c!Tommy was having fun. None of this meant anything. And then we had L'Manberg, c!Tommy wanting nothing more than a home and safety with his brother and friends. Community, because that's what he always cared about (he expanded the Prime Path for that reason after all. To connect. He built tunnels/sewers under the ground first to scam then in the end wound up connecting). But he didn't want to be a hero. He just wanted to keep that community, but he wasn't allowed.
And then we have the 16th, if you want to be a hero tommy then die like one. He didn't want to be the hero. He wanted his home back. He wanted c!Wilbur back. He denied the presidency. He stepped down. He wanted them all to live in a home. Community.
New L'Manberg. New L'Manberg was a second attempt at that, and c!Tommy went on pranking and doing what life was like before L'manberg even existed, but it stopped being so simple. He was exiled from L'Manberg to protect it, when he never wanted to be in that position in the first place. He rallied people to save it during Doomsday, even though people would betray him, even though none of them really visited him (mostly due to cdreams lies ofc), even though he was exiled from there. He wanted to protect it, because it represented his Love for c!Wilbur. Again, he didn't want to be the hero, he wanted to preserve that love of the person he can't grieve because he doesn't know how especially when his ghost is still around. "I'm a person Tommy". "So are we." It was never about being a hero.
c!Tommy rests then, after putting c!Dream in prison. Not to be a herom but to protect himself, and his freedom (the discs and thus himself and tubbo). He didn't want to live in a nation (snowchester) he didnt want to fight the egg. He built a hotel. Connection, community, a place where anyone could live. The Egg got bad, Sam Nook asked him to be a hero. And guess what, he said no. He said he never wanted to be one. He even broke a piece of the egg to put in his hotel, to please them. So that everyone would come to the hotel. It could be a community again. He gave invites to everyone, even c!Dream.
And then we have his conversation with Foolish. The are you a hero or villain Tommy. And then "it depends on who you ask". And then "if you care about someone you stick by them" because it was never about heroes or villains to tommy really. It was about connection.
And c!Tommy continued on past then just trying to survive till his very end. You can look at c!Tommy as someone who stuck up for his values, as someone who wanted to protect people, but you can never look at his motivations as anything other than survival and love. He never wanted to be a hero point blank.

I’m sorry, I just have to talk about c!Techno and c!Punz because I can’t stop thinking about them. Please let me talk about c!Techno and c!Punz. They literally interact once, with the Butcher Army/attempted execution fiasco, and they don’t even talk then. They are almost completely unrelated. There’s no reason to think (or talk) about the two of them and their relationships with each other, at least not based on what is explicitly stated in canon.
But they’re surprisingly similar, and the way other people see them mirror each other. They are both extremely loyal and are deeply involved with c!Dream and are seen as weapons, tools that can be bought and used without any regard for their opinions on the matter. But the way their loyalty is expressed is different, and their relationships with c!Dream are different, and the way they react to be dehumanized are different, and I want to talk about that a little bit because I just can’t stop thinking about them please help.
c!Techno doesn’t like c!Punz. He doesn’t like the fact that they’re complicit in just about everything (including multiple governments and completely unrelated public executions) and the goodwill they got from saving him from the Butcher Army didn’t last very long, especially because he knows they only got involved because c!Dream told them to/paid them to. His opinion of them only further sours after the Eggpire, because, even if they weren’t there for the Red Banquet, they were still working with the Egg. In AUs where c!Punz ends up helping c!Techno (especially if c!Dream is involved), Techno does not trust them one bit and suspects they’re just playing the long con so they can sell him and Dream and the Syndicate out. In versions where Punz tells Techno everything, including the Staged Finale, he thinks they were stupid for not saying no, you can’t do that, to Dream.
So c!Techno doesn’t like, or trust, c!Punz. But it’s more than just that. c!Techno sees c!Punz as the opposite of him, the person he would hate to be and the person he fears he is, the person who everyone treats him as and expects him to be. A tool, a weapon, something you can buy with some coins or a sob story and point in the direction of your enemies. c!Techno fights so hard against the dehumanization that he faces, reinstates over and over again that he’s a person, not just The Blade; c!Punz accepts that conception of them, leans into it, because it keeps them safe and stops people from asking questions and provides plausible deniability. But, for c!Techno, c!Punz is exactly what their facade is, and that means c!Punz is exactly what he refuses to become.
c!Techno doesn’t like thinking about c!Punz.
c!Punz doesn’t like c!Techno. They don’t like the way that c!Techno broke c!Dream out of prison just to take away his armor and abandon him; they don’t like the fact that he broke c!Dream out so late. They’re tightly strung and hold grudges and need someone to blame so they can distract themself from what the hell is going on, what the fuck was happening in that prison, especially because they don’t know who they can blame for this but Sam and themself and everyone who let them happen. c!Techno’s a better target for their wrath because he’s safely out of reach and c!Punz knows they could never act on it. Just bottle up your anger and stick to the plan.
But it’s not just that they hate him either. c!Punz hates c!Techno, sure, but they’re also jealous of him. c!Techno can be angry and get upset and let other people know about it. c!Techno can get revenge. c!Techno can protect the people he loves. c!Techno can assert his humanity. And c!Punz can’t do any of those things, or, at least, they’re not allowed to.
c!Dream thought that c!Techno was powerful enough to be openly aligned with. c!Dream thought c!Techno was powerful and dangerous enough that he would let him break him out of Pandora’s, banked on c!Techno getting him out, and c!Dream would never let c!Punz do anything like that. c!Dream calls c!Techno a friend despite everything he’s gone through and struggles so much to do the same to c!Punz.
(Deep down, c!Punz almost wishes they were c!Techno)

also is JJ from JMAH or does he only exist in birdhouse? where did this child come from
JJ specifically takes place in one of our off-the-wall "HEY WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED-" sessions in the birdhouse chat where we decided to have XD give the dream kids (+ one sam cat) just to see what would happen, so he's kind of a package deal with the rest of the triplets--there's not really anything abt him on his own.
However, we have talked about the possibility of a kid in any kind of JMAH timeline, be it in some c!awesamdream scenario within the prison or like, afterwards, in Mayfair. It would...well, it would go poorly. The only reason why things in the birdhouse go as well as they do (like, relatively speaking) is because of 1. how much time has passed since the prison--by the time birdhouse triplets happen, it's already been like, 3 1/2 to 4 years since the prison--and more importantly, 2. the fact that the dynamic has had to constantly change to incorporate the other people that are added to the cottage. As a result, Sam is less of a stranger to the idea of himself and Dream having a relationship that could involve, say, having a kid, thanks to the coparent duo being around (as well as ff!Sam...to a much lesser degree.)
(more under the cut!)
In just plain JMAH and Mayfair, though...well. It'd go a lot less smoothly. The whole crux of j!Sam and j!Dream's dynamic in both of these is the lack of interference from anyone--anybody that can get involved in the relationship between them is, in a way, a threat--including if they had, like. A child. That would complicate Sam's priorities, complicate Dream's rules, complicate everything between them in the scope and depth of their feelings towards each other and the potential of how they would develop--it would force them both to confront things that they would rather let lie, and would likely end up tipping in one direction or the other when the status quo can no longer support the changes that raising a baby would bring.
Given the scenario that the baby is like, biological...honestly speaking, they probably choose to terminate. j!Sam is torn--he doesn't want the change, but he also. Like he doesn't not want to keep it, you know? But for j!Dream, well, it's a terrifying change, he can't cope with the idea of how it would end up interfering with everything (well, he's not really coping with the idea of it at all)--it's just too much. He doesn't really think that he'd have like, any say over the matter for the baby to actually become something he can leverage (and like, in all fairness, he's right.) It's terrifying and it's just not worth the damn risk. (And like, in either the prison or Mayfair, j!Dream's body probably wouldn't be able to handle the physical stress--like, at all. There's a really small chance that it would even make it to term.)
IN THE SCENARIO where they like, do keep the baby, or it's a magic baby, or something along those lines, we've said that j!Sam would very likely try to keep these spheres of his life as close to separate as possible. Like he would make a separate house for his kid if he could manage to do that and still take care of them kinda separate. It doesn't help that in any kind of continuation of JMAH or Mayfair without c!Dream, j!Dream's condition,,, pretty continually deteriorates. He really wouldn't be any state to take care of a kid in Mayfair, and Sam just flat out wouldn't let him have any contact with the kid if they were born in the prison. Like, no chance in hell. Both of them would still kind of be clinging to the status quo and the kid, as a result, would likely end up shunted to the side--the kid would likely be sheltered from knowing their true parentage and like, end up in boarding school or something 😭

what about c!sam realising that c!techno remembers before c!techno realises c!sam does? would he try to convince c!techno that he's doing the right thing in this timeline ('he's not hurt, he's not in the prison, he's free to make his own choices and one of those is to be with me and that's your problem if you don't like it!'), or would he feign ignorance while subtly trying to keep him and c!dream apart - or turn the server against c!techno, to make sure he has less room to interfere?
oooooh i like the way you think anon!
i definitely think it'd be one of the latter options.
i can see c!sam trying to influence c!dream away from c!techno because well. techno isn't a good person. there was a reason that sam wanted to lock him up. he was a danger then and if he also has his memories, he's still a danger, isn't he?
even more so if he's trying to get dream 'on his side'. that's a dangerous combination and it has to be stopped. it's not something that sam could allow if he wants to keep the peace.
maybe he needs some help.
maybe he needs someone else to remember who will understand.

To think, out of all places the forest by Las Nevadas would be where you found Dream. Your sword was in your hand within seconds amusing the blonde.
"Hey," he greeted. "Come to join me finally?" It seemed like a joke between friends, but he had been pestering you for years now or at least however long it's been since you left the original community house.
You shook your head. "No Dream, I'm taking you back to prison. You already know that I'm giving you more mercy than Sap will," you waved him over, still keeping your sword up for added protection. "Cmon, just make it easy,"
Dream chuckled, circling you. Both of you were on edge, weapons drawn, circling slowly in this shape of rising tension. "Are you though? Sap said he'd kill me, I'd like to see him try. Quackity already killed me partly, isn't it fitting another part of their trio will take a turn killing me slowly,"
You said nothing watching the grip on his ax shift.
"Is it Karl's turn next?"
"Enough games," you watched a grin spread across his lips.
"A game huh? Want to play one?" he stopped moving.
You paused on the other side of him. "What kind of game?"
"A little duel, if you win I'll come with you,"
"And what about you, what if you win?" You watched the cloaked man slowly eye you up and down.
"Being on the run is kinda...stressful. it'd be nice to relieve it,"
You almost dropped your sword. "You want sex," you said bluntly.
Dream laughed, it was loud and echoed through the forest. "I didn't say that, but if you're offering,"
"I didn't offer but you asked for it,"
He took a step closer. "But you didn't say no," there was silence. A new form of tension seeping into the air.
"Fine," you said. "If you somehow win, then that can be your prize, just don't cry too much as I drag you back to Sam,"
"Of course, wouldn't dream of it," he purred. The scoff you let out as he used his own name as a joke was unbelievable.
You should have known that some rules should have been laid down. That a dirty trick was on its way, but that was the last thing on your mind as you clashed metal with Dream. He was a cheater, he was a liar, he was- fucking kicking your ass. Within minutes Dream was sitting on your hips, your back against the ground.
"I believe," he panted, holding the bar of his ax on your throat. "This means I win," you struggled beneath him, but he was too big to push off. Dream watched in amusement as you clung on to the tiniest smidge of hope that you could prevail and then laughed as it faded.
You stopped moving beneath him before giving a weak whine. "You win, now get off, you're crushing my lungs asshole,"
Slowly Dream leaned back moving off of your body. He stood up watching as you picked yourself up off the ground.
"What? Quite staring at me like that," you snapped. "A deals a deal so if you were waiting for me to beg to bring you to Sam you'd be sorely mistaken,"
"Actually I'd love to see you on your knees begging," he grinned.
"You wish," you spat, leaning down to pick up your weapon. You both blinked at each other.
"Your house,"
"What?"
"Well I'm not letting you see my lair,"
"My house is in the middle of the damn server," you argued.
Dream just shrugged. "Sounds like a personal problem," You opened but quickly shut your mouth. If you had spoken it was quite possible a few unsavory words about your unchosen company would have slipped out. You snapped at him to keep up before leading him to your place.
He whistled entering your house. "Haven't been here before,"
"You were too busy blowing it up before," you hummed.
A loud thud startled you but he had just dropped his things at your door. You watched with a judgemental glare as he strolled over to your couch. He plopped down on a cushion leaning his arms across the back. "Well?" He said cockily. With the way he had made himself comfortable and the amount he had spread his thighs it was obvious what he wanted.
"Knees,"
The dark command sent shivers through you. Wordlessly you found yourself complying. Green eyes watched you bored. Wait when- "I'm not going to wear my mask during sex, that's a bit ridiculous," he scoffed noticing your confused look.
Slowly you undid his pants, hopefully he would ignore the tremble in your hands. Your eyes trailing across the light freckles and darkened eyes. You had to admit for someone who was supposed to be your enemy he was quite the looker. His cock was heavy in your hand, twitching as your tongue trailed up the side. Dream's head tilted back, a soft moan escaping his parted lips. You hadn't been trying to tease, honestly. The soft noises he was letting out were addicting however. Your lips barely wrapping around the tip, your tongue darting to the places that seemed to make his breath hitch.
"Enough playing," Dream demanded, a hand moving to rest on your head.
You rolled your eyes but finally took him into your mouth.
He was quick to push, shoving the tip to touch the back of your throat. Your hands flew to his legs to ground yourself as bitter tears sprung to your eyes from the sudden intrusion. "Relax, you'll be fine," he cooed.
Your pace was not quick enough so naturally he took over. Hips thrusting up to fuck his cock into your mouth. Saliva gathered as you attempted to swallow around him, however, it only added to the slick noises of his thrusts. "Hard to say you hate me when you have my cock down your throat isn't it?" He teased.
You looked up at him blinking through wet lashes able to provide no response. It was criminal how much you were enjoying him using you. "Poor baby, God your lips feel so fucking good around me," he groaned tilting his head back. Your nails dug into his thighs slightly as he held you on his cock. Your cheeks burned as you realized he was having you cockwarm him. He twitched on your tongue the tiny movement being the only warning you got before cum filled your mouth. You pulled off with a slight cough after swallowing.
"You sure were fast," you licked over your lips. "Guess the big bad Dreamie doesn't have much stamina, creams himself just-"
His hand grasped your face, squishing your cheeks. "Careful what you say sweetheart, because we aren't done here. Now unless you wanna be fucked on the ground like a whore; you better show me to your room,"
Dream followed behind as you shakily lead him to your bed. "Why don't you undress, slowly," he added the last word as an afterthought. You watched the dirty blonde lean back against your door waiting for his show to begin. Dream was delighted by the inch after inch of skin that was revealed by removing your clothes.
As you dropped the last piece of fabric to the ground he pushed himself off the wood.
"What about yours?" You blurted.
He paused in his step before letting out a slight bark of a laugh. You unfortunately didn't get a chance to enjoy a little strip tease as Dreams clothes were off and onto the ground by the second his was between your thighs.
The prep he did was quick but just enough. You couldn't lie there was a slight stretch as he slid into you but you weren't bothered.
"I haven't even started yet," he grinned watching your eyes roll back as he bottomed out. Dreams' first thrust or two were sharp and sudden. The hands on your hips warned you of his soon-to-be fast pace. He slammed into you, hands digging into your sides. Part of you was starting to believe the whole "I'm a god" speech now. He knew the exact way to get you falling apart under him. Exactly what made you tick. You didn't even have to ask for his hand to be on your throat, he had already moved it there. Hearing your breath hitch sent a shiver of delight through Dream.
"Of course you would like this," he taunted.
He listened to your breathless whines and moans before speaking again. "Go on dove, tell me how good I feel, tell me how much you love this," it was pure amusement that filled Dream's eyes when you didn't answer.
Whether it was out of pure embarrassment or the pleasure that was clouding your mind keeping you from doing so; he didn't care.
"Look at yourself, fucking pathetic," Dream laughed. His hand squeezed gently on your neck. "You're supposed to be taking me back to jail but here you are too busy spreading your legs for me," the humiliation that burned through your body added to the flame like nothing else. "I like this. You under me. I get stressed pretty easily, maybe you'll let me come back more to blow off some steam,"
Honestly you were still too lost in the cloud of pleasure that you slowly nodded making him grin. "Aw, you'd like that sweetheart?" Dream grunted, cock still dragging against your walls deliciously. "I don't like to share you know, so if you're mine, you're fucking mine," Dream warned. "My little plaything,"
You whined at the tighter grip on your throat. It was only harsher for a second before he opted to have both hands on your hips instead. The small pants and moans that slipped through Dream's lips was twisting your stomach into knots. Why were all the bad men so hot?
Dream was mumbling, mumbling sweet pleasure-induced words. Words that were tearing your self-control apart. Embarrassingly you were close to falling off that edge. Dream seemed to notice immediately.
"Oh come on now," he purred. "Just from my words?" he didn't look bothered, however, actually quite the opposite. It was fueling his ego.
"We haven't even gotten to the best part, was going to make you scream on my tongue for hours," he whispered, leaning down. The noises of his pleasure were now significantly louder thanks to his sudden closeness. "Fuck you til the only things you know are my name and how you're made for this cock,"
You squirmed beneath him begging. "Please, please, please,"
Dream continued speaking, each sentence burning you hotter than the last. The constant quiver of your legs gave you away. "That's it baby," a hand moved between your thighs to help. "Let go. Now,"
You trembled in his touch, sobbing as you attempted to rock your hips down against his. Dreams teeth bit into your collarbone. You cried out cumming. He groaned feeling you tighten around him.
"Oh fuck," he panted. Dream hips stuttered as his orgasm finally reached its peak. The high whine that left his lips surprised you. Warmth burned your lower body as he filled you.
There wasn't silence for long, however. Dream's communicator buzzed beside him. It had fallen out of his pants. Who could that be? There weren't many who could contact him. He leaned over glancing at it before grinning up at you.
"Mind if a friend joins?"  A friend?

i've had people ask plenty questions about my au where george kills dream i guarantee you people will not care and be interested if you just explain what the au is about LMAO
i'm actually pretty curious myself i just don't get many of the details
oh! i actually posted a quick rundown of the au a bit ago here but i really should make a better post to explain it.
basically, the concept is that c!sam immediately makes changes to how the prison works in that he doesn't allow visitors, at all, and he's the only guard ever allowed to see or visit c!dream.
i love playing with the fact c!dream wears a mask and how no one knew what he looked like it's so fascinating to me i will use this trope over and over.
the only person other than sam that ever steps foot in the cell, is c!quackity for torture purposes. when torture seems to go no where and also goes, uh, too far and dream almost actually dies, sam removes him from the prison. he brings dream to his island. where he's built a replica prison cell in his home. it's weird. quackity is eventually allowed back to torture dream but sam sits in on the sessions.
overall, dream is locked up for about two years. it's awful. sam tries to 'fix' dream which goes about as well as you'd think.
dream eventually drugs sam with the same stuff sam has been using on him and manages to escape. he gets cornered by pillagers, rescued by c!techno who thinks he's just... a random bunny girl and dream kinda latches onto that as a way to be safe. convinces techno to keep his existence a secret except from the syndicate which they do.
the whole thing deals with some pretty heavy topics of torture and misgendering and general abuse but most of the focus is on dream finding a place to heal with c!techno etc! like, going from the lowest points to actual peace and happiness even if it takes years to get there.

Hmmmm. Something tells me you’re thinking about c!ponk (/silly)
oh you beautiful beautiful soul hello
to me cponk is like objectively one of if not the most influential characters to the dsmp because he started it all. he was one of the original eight members and he was the trailblazer for all the lore on like. that first day when eberyeon was fucking with his lemon tree.
i’m not googling anything for this because it’s 2am but i also have like a terrible memory so i may get things wrong or miss them entirely but
i remember being there for sam’s valentines day stream and it was so sweet and funny. the surprise ponk left for him was so fucking elaborate and well put together,, sam was like “ponk made this?? :(“ and it was genuinely such a beautiful moment.
c!ponk was, at her essentials, a character who cared, a character who was along for the ride, who went with the flow of life and the love it brought her, showing her love through jokes and acts of service and gifts.
he loved gently, and he loved sam because he was sam, the friend he knew from day 1, the person who was always around from the start. he remembered every little detail about sam and he utilized all of it. he covered it with a veil of humor but he cared so much.
and yeah, sam loved him back, but sam was too far in deep, he was too committed to that prison and keeping dream in it no matter what and he made a choice.
and yeah i can spiral about that choice all day long but i’m more thinking about the fallout.
do you think ponk used to cut sam’s hair for him, and that after he cut ponk’s arm off, his hair grew long and uncontrollable. do you think his tools began to wear more because ponk would oftentimes repair them for him when he wasn’t using them. do you think he started to be just a little more ruthless because he lost his heart when he lost ponk.
do you think ponk often just spent time wondering if sam was still okay even though he had hurt him so much. even if he wanted to hate him. even if he did hate him at times.
and when he was angry, when he shouted at sam, asking why he “took something that couldn’t be replaced”, his hand, still nobody took him seriously.
everything c!ponk ever had was burnt to the ground. it was how they started and it was how they ended. (as far as i remember i don’t think she got a conclusive finale either which sucks.)
the egg preyed on people’s vulnerabilities, and i don’t think it’s a coincidence that ponk isolated themself in a cave, saying on stream that they were lonely, before joining the eggpire.
i don’t think it’s a coincidence that before joining the eggpire, he tried to speak to sam, who simply ignored the problem at hand and then tried to deflect blame when he got angry at him for cutting his fucking arm off. and then sam just stormed off when ponk was rightfully outraged.
…even then, though, ponk tried to mask her pain with humor, up until the end.
this is just a jumbled mess of thoughts because i’m too tired and too silly for a coordinated rant but here !!

The godling/little god Dream & Dream XD is literally insane. This is so good. I cannoe put into words just how much I love it. The worldbuilding with the gods?? The tragicness, the unfairness, the sheer greed of those gods who want to live forever? This slaps so damn hard. And I know you might not want to say it yet, but I am SO curious how dream's cough cough actual godling status will work with his overall goal in the dsmp and the prison arc. Just, like, great job sif your hands are blessed
I'm glad you're enjoying it! I like having complex and fucked up gods, and it's a fun AU to build.
I think I've talked about it a little bit, but c!Dream up until the end of the AU both is and isn't a godling. The mask keeps his status almost entirely repressed cutting him off from both his hybrid side and his god side. Only a little bit can leak through.
This fucks him up over time for two reasons, first, exposure to XD. While XD does try to minimize his impact on c!Dream, the amount of time c!Dream spends exposed to a god does add up. It's part of why XD has relatively minimal contact with c!Dream during the SMP, since he's doing everything he can to avoid that poisoning going too far.
More importantly for the events of the SMP, at that point, c!Dream has killed his first god. He's growing up and his power is growing and starting to hit the limits of what the mask can contain. But the mask is still keeping him almost entirely human. And thus not immune to constant exposure to a god.
As such, he's effectively poisoning himself and the people around him to various degrees. He's got it the worst, but other people are affected to. So it's kind of like in medieval times where you just had an entire village of people tripping on ergot accidentally. Not quite as extreme, and certain people have more resistance, but a similar sort of vibe.
A big impact for his growing power is that he's also starting to get worshipers once the SMP gets founded. Full end gods don't really require worship and draw their power directly from the universe itself. But End Gods can still draw power from worship, and end godlings will often draw power from worship to complete their worship.
This extra power does come in handy once he's ready to kill that second god, but prior to that the extra boosts are significantly more dangerous and just make him worse. c!Sam, c!Punz, c!Wilbur, and to some extent c!Tommy are all guilty of a level of deification. It's mostly c!Wilbur's fault though because when he makes c!Dream the Big Bad Guy he starts that process of deification/dehumanization that helps push c!Dream over the edge.
Also while all of this is happening, XD is just kinda there biting his lip trying to figure out where he needs to intervene. It probably should've been awhile ago, but like, it works in the end, so whose the fool now?

For the AU where did c!Sam's attraction to c!Dream begin? How did c!Dream reciprocate? Do either feel resentment at themselves or each other for it? Like on Sam's end because Dream is "an evil criminal who needs to be locked away" and Dream's end because of well just about everything Sam has and does put him through. Despite it all what do they find attractive about each other?
Well, here is the thing: in any c!awesamdream scenario, regardless of the setup, the attraction is inextricable from the prison.
Let’s start with canon.
Sam has poured his life and soul and identity into this project for Dream, containing Dream. To own this man is to hate him, to own this man is to be fascinated by him, preoccupied with him, spend every waking minute thinking about him, how to keep him, how to defeat him, contain him, possess him. That’s the root of what we’re working with, from Sam’s side, that he’s built his magnum opus for Dream, that he’s turned his entire life into an act of service revolving around Dream. He explicitly prioritizes Dream over everything else: his dog, his romantic partner, the lives of everyone else on the sever.
For Dream: well, this is the man he knew in the community house, that he shared space with. This is the man he trusted his life and the soul of his plan with: he knew beyond doubt that Sam would keep him alive even when Sam hated him. He trusted that Sam would protect him, even after the abuses began to rack up. He screamed for Sam. Sam kept him alive, took care of him, looked after him, was his only source of human contact. There was only one way for Dream to get any interaction in the prison, and that was by provoking Sam and attracting his attention. So that’s what Dream did: he burned his clocks and he burned himself and he learned to enjoy it, or to tell himself he enjoyed it. His life revolves around Sam, running his mind over and over and over what went wrong with him, appeasing or inflaming him, begging for him, kneeling for him. That’s the root of what we’re working with.
Now, attraction. Attraction is the other side of the coin from disgust: there is a knife’s edge. For Sam, does it come before or after possession? To want, to covet, to jealously guard: is that the same thing? To desperately want Dream alive and his, to prioritize him over everything? To obsess? He wants Dream to do as he says. He wants Dream to remain his forever. Perhaps this means he wants Dream.
For Dream, to see the need for control in the eyes of his jailer and understand that here, perhaps, there is a twisted kind of power: is that attraction? Is it attraction to scream for Sam and beg for his attention, to be so desperate for his company that he thinks he might do anything? To know that once upon a time he trusted Sam with his life, and that perhaps he still does? He wants Sam to come see him. He wants Sam to care about him. Perhaps this means he wants Sam.
