Happy STS! I hope you’ve had a good week :) What is something about your WIP that’s either on your mind lately or that you wish more people would ask you about?

Hello Cap'n and happy STS! My week's been ... weird? But okay? Hoping yours was good!

I've moved on from writing but not from obsessing over The Friendly Visitors, and especially over Buzz and Leech, my two dumbass vampire and Fae henchmen. They're technically not the main characters, but Leech is just so grimy and terrible and very fun to write for that reason, and Buzz is just so loyal to him it's great.

3 & 23 for Leir and Endora?

3. What was their first impression of each other?

When Endora sees Leir for the first time it's in the shape of a hero. It's in someone who is taking her from a dying planet and dropping them into a new purpose. End has them on a pedestal for the longest time, following them starry eyed and willing to help with whatever they can. The illusion shatters, as all do, when they find out the actual purpose of the Desolation Project, and they actually almost kill Leir shortly after that discovery.

It's not until much later, when they find out Leir has defected and is working with The Long Dark Antonella that End even starts to entertain possibly befriending them.

Conversely, Leir thinks End is another of the gullible little nobodies the Desolation Project scoops off-world like anyone else. Someone to be brushed aside while the planet is stripped of resources, and then left adrift on a "temporary" asteroid colony that will run out of supplies in a month or less. Mircallen folk are often of the belief that they're better than the shorter lived denizens of the surrounding star systems, and Leir--despite being given to the magic and not born of it--is no different. They view Endora as a playing piece until proven otherwise.

And as soon as they get the chance, Endora proves herself otherwise.

23. What are the defining characteristics of their relationship?

Undying, unwavering, unhealthy devotion.

Endora takes on the risk of dropping herself into one of the wellsprings on Mircalla just for a chance to make their lifespans even out, she is one of the few reported cases of a wellspring rejecting someone without it killing them.

Leir's only reason for walking away from the Desolation Project, under threat of death and exile from the Council of the Evendales, is because of Endora. Is because of her forcing them to look at what the project was actually doing, and take it in, instead of brushing it off as necessary damage.

Leir and Endora are a force to be reckoned with, Endora matching in strategy and rage what Leir has in brute force and innate skill.

Even after Leir's memory is wiped, they still end up back in front of End, putting their life in her hands because something is saying they can trust her.

Both are willing to give up everything they have or could have in order to protect the other, and that extension is granted to nobody else. Which is part of why they both avoid prosecution for the fall of the Evendales, disappearing into the ether and letting everything be pinned to Antonella's shoulders.

I love them both, they are both individually terrible people, and I love that too.

Now all I can imagine is the pirates stealing reader away and Sans just shows up and is met with a villager which he’s uninterested in until they’re like like “Um…some pirates kidnapped your wife…please don’t eat me.” and then Sans is just like “They WHAT?!”

Somewhere far away, the captain feels his sins crawling down his back.

Yes yes EXACTLY!! That’s what I thought when I was writing it

You meet with Sans almost every day. Though there are days where you don’t appear at the cliffside to meet him, usually you’ll come back the day after, or have already told him that you were going to be busy the day before.

(Of course he still comes, and though he’ll be sad, he’s not too broken up about it.)

But then you were gone for a day… then two… than three… the more he doesn’t see you the more agitated he becomes. He’ll rise up to the cliff and wait for hours on end. He’ll be there in the morning, leave, and come back at night.

It’s clear to the villagers that their Local Kraken is becoming upset, agitated even. They’re haunted at night by his cries and wails of despair at night.

After about a week he’s in anguish, storm clouds have gathered above the sea and the shores around it as Sans cries, not knowing what happened to his beloved human. The villagers get more and more frightful… sure when you were here he was as ‘harmless’ as a puppy, but without you it’s almost like he’s turned back to that unknown beast that come from the inky black depths.

Eventually they’re scared enough that instead of trembling in fear and avoiding the shore like a dead zone, they decide the longer the monster doesn’t have his gf the more likely he’s going to destroy everything- so they send one person to the cliffside.

At first Sans is excited to see a human on the cliff, but quickly realizes that it isn’t you. The small peek of sun is quickly covered by swirling clouds. It’s visible both in the sky and on his face, and the poor sap that was sent to talk to him is shaking in their boots. The dark anger on his face makes it look like he’s going to eat them or something (when really he’s uninterested), so they quickly blurt out:

“Sir… s-sir kraken! Please don’t eat me, I’ve come t-tp tell you that p-pirates have st-tolen your wife…?”

Sans was just about leaving when he hears it. He goes from despairing to rage. He grips the cliff until his phalanges dug deep grooves into it and yells (in their head), “WHERE DID THEY TAKE HER?!”

They blurt out in fear and quickly run away as Sans’ eyelights turn an angry red, practically roaring into the sky as lightning strikes, tentacles knocking boulders and upsets the shore as they sway violently.

His roar is heard far across the ocean… on a pirate ship, you wake up from a nap in your makeshift prison and a shudder runs along the captain’s spine.

“What been that, Cap’n?”

“... It’s probably nothing, maybe a clap o’ thunder. Get aft to work, lad.”

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

I'll do this for Jade and Caz in Something Wicked (either as friends or something more, your choice). You know how two smart, capable, maybe even overpowered people can suddenly have one shared brain cell when paired? Yeah that's them. But at the same time, they also support each other so well and I love it. Caz often picks up on things that are making Jade uncomfortable and encourages her to speak out about them (even if it's just asking for eggs to be cooked through at a diner). Meanwhile Jade is pretty much his rock when he's spiraling out of control.

60. Who pulls the other closer when they’re sleeping?

I'll do this for my OT3: Loki, Angrboda, and Sigyn in Those Horrid, Horrid Things. Angrboda runs cold while Loki runs hot so they've kind of always been her little space heater, but with Sigyn in the mix the two get a little ... possessively cuddly with her.

Since the school dance, Loki had slept tucked between their wives, sometimes switching places so both they and Angrboda could wrap around Sigyn — as if she’d float off if they didn’t hold onto her.

Also in Something Wicked, Caz will climb on top of whoever he's sleeping with and starfish his 6'4 ass across the entire bed. Sleeping is his favorite it's the closest he'll ever get to death.

Happy STS, I hope you’ve had a great week! If you were given a full, uninterrupted hour to talk about anything from your WIP, what would you talk about?

Last week was busy, but it's done now!

Gods there are so many things I could yell about for an hour.

I literally used to livestream on youtube while I wrote and most of those are just me talking about certain scenes while I write.

Most of what I could go on about at length is about how my vampires function, or else on individual backstory elements.

If I was given an hour to talk about one thing alone, it would definitely end up being talk about how my vampires work and what their flavor of not-dead not-alive looks like.

And other things that routinely happen when my friend Quinn gets me going about SitD.
