Castello di Rocca Calascio - l'Aquila - Italia Orestegaspari.com Rocca Calascio è un piccolo comune della provincia dell'Aquila, tra i borghi di Santo Stefano di Sessanio e Castel del Monte. Alle sue spalle si può ammirare lo splendido paesaggio dell'Altopiano di Campo Imperatore e di fronte ad esso si possono ammirare le meraviglie della Majella e dei Monti Sirente. Il castello, situato a circa 1460 metri di altezza, è tra i più elevati d'Italia e d'Europa ed è considerato uno dei simboli dell'Abruzzo. Il Castello sembra mimetizzarsi con le pietre che lo circondano, come creazione naturale della montagna. Questa posizione elevata permette di ammirare paesaggi mozzafiato e di provare sensazioni straordinarie, che accendono la fantasia e riconducono ad un tempo antico, ad una natura incontaminata ed esclusiva, come quella del Gran Sasso. Rocca Calascio e il suo castello sono stati set cinematografici di molti film famosi, come Ladyhawke e Il nome della rosa. Stalker del castello, Loch Laich. Si crede che Castle Stalker – in gaelico Stalcaire, che significa cacciatore o falconiere – fosse originariamente il sito di un Fortalice (un piccolo edificio fortificato) appartenente ai MacDougall quando erano signori di Lorn, e costruito intorno al 1320. I MacDougalls persero il loro titolo dopo la loro sconfitta da parte di re Bruce a Brander Pass nel 1308, ma lo riconquistò per un periodo dopo il 1328. Intorno al 1388 la Signoria di Lorn passò agli Stewart, le terre tra cui Castle Stalker. Intorno al 1620 il castello passò nelle mani dei Campbell di Airds a seguito di una scommessa da ubriaco del settimo capo Stewart, Duncan, in cambio di un wherry a otto remi. Gli Stewart di Appin, sotto Stewart di Ardsheal, riconquistarono il castello nel 1689 quando uscirono con re Giacomo VII (altrimenti Giacomo II) contro re Guglielmo, ma dopo la sconfitta nella battaglia di Dunkeld il castello fu nuovamente incamerato dai Campbell. Gli Stewart sotto Ardsheal si rifiutarono di consegnarlo quando fu poi assediato dai Campbell per diversi mesi fino a quando Ardsheal non ottenne una resa onorevole nel 1690. Al tempo del 1745 Rising Castle Stalker era tenuto dai Campbell con una guarnigione di circa 59 truppe governative. Dopo la battaglia di Culloden nel 1746 il castello fu utilizzato dalle forze governative come centro locale dove i membri del clan dovevano cedere le armi. FIREWORKS Als ich mich an diesem Abend auf den Weg zum Schloss Lenzburg machte, rechnete ich zwar mit einem Abendrot. Mit so einem explodierendem Feuerwerk hatte ich allerdings nie und nimmer gerechnet. Es war atemberaubend, was da über dem Schloss abging. Linlithgow Palace

James I ordered work on a palace to begin in 1424, following a fire that severely damaged the earlier residence. The elegant, new ‘pleasure palace’ became a welcome rest stop for royals on the busy road between Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.

Mary, Queen of Scots, was born on 8th of December 1542 at Linlithgow Palace, to King James V and his French second wife, Mary of Guise. Mary was baptised at the nearby Church of St Michael shortly after she was born. On 14th December, six days after her birth, she became Queen of Scotland when her father died.

The palace fell quickly into decline when James VI (son of Mary) moved the royal court to London in 1603, following his coronation as James I of England.

The palace’s north quarter, which probably housed the queen’s apartment where Mary was born, fell to the ground in 1607. It was rebuilt around 1620, on the orders of James VI. The Duke of Cumberland’s army destroyed most of the palace buildings by burning in January 1746.
