Stalker del castello, Loch Laich. Si crede che Castle Stalker – in gaelico Stalcaire, che significa cacciatore o falconiere – fosse originariamente il sito di un Fortalice (un piccolo edificio fortificato) appartenente ai MacDougall quando erano signori di Lorn, e costruito intorno al 1320. I MacDougalls persero il loro titolo dopo la loro sconfitta da parte di re Bruce a Brander Pass nel 1308, ma lo riconquistò per un periodo dopo il 1328. Intorno al 1388 la Signoria di Lorn passò agli Stewart, le terre tra cui Castle Stalker. Intorno al 1620 il castello passò nelle mani dei Campbell di Airds a seguito di una scommessa da ubriaco del settimo capo Stewart, Duncan, in cambio di un wherry a otto remi. Gli Stewart di Appin, sotto Stewart di Ardsheal, riconquistarono il castello nel 1689 quando uscirono con re Giacomo VII (altrimenti Giacomo II) contro re Guglielmo, ma dopo la sconfitta nella battaglia di Dunkeld il castello fu nuovamente incamerato dai Campbell. Gli Stewart sotto Ardsheal si rifiutarono di consegnarlo quando fu poi assediato dai Campbell per diversi mesi fino a quando Ardsheal non ottenne una resa onorevole nel 1690. Al tempo del 1745 Rising Castle Stalker era tenuto dai Campbell con una guarnigione di circa 59 truppe governative. Dopo la battaglia di Culloden nel 1746 il castello fu utilizzato dalle forze governative come centro locale dove i membri del clan dovevano cedere le armi. 🔴Castle Stalker🔴 . Means Hunter or Falconer. ⚫The island castle is one of the best-preserved medieval tower-houses to survive in western Scotland. ⚫The castle is a four storey, rectangular tower house. The ground floor comprised of two cellars and a pit prison. ⚫The original castle was a small fort, built around 1320 by Clan MacDougall who were then Lords of Lorn. ⚫It is believed that they built the present castle in the 1440s. ⚫It was lost to the Campbells in 1620 and remained in their hands for almost three centuries. ⚫Castle Stalker remained in use as a residence until circa-1800 when the Campbells built a new house on the mainland. ⚫By 1831 the castle had lost its roof and was drifting into ruin. ⚫In 1908 it was finally recovered by the Stewarts when it was purchased by Charles Stewart of Achara. ⚫In 1965 it was purchased by Lieutenant Colonel Stewart Allward who started a decade long restoration project. ⚫There is a limited number of tours to the castle each year. . . The iconic Castle Stalker, Scotland Castle Stalker is a four-storey tower house or keep picturesquely set on a tidal islet on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe. It is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-east of Port Appin, Argyll, Scotland, and is visible from the A828 road about midway between Oban and Glen Coe. The islet is accessible (with difficulty) from the shore at low tide. The name "Stalker" comes from the Gaelic Stalcaire, meaning "hunter" or "falconer". The island castle is one of the best-preserved medieval tower-houses to survive in western Scotland and is a Category A listed building. The castle was brought to fame by the Monty Python team, appearing in their film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
