anyway have i talked about how i think it sucks the adaptation got rid of the subplot of javier knowing about suho's identity without lloyd knowing and being really conflicted about it only to slowly come to trust him based on his actions?? this is a rhetorical question of course i have.

i just. it's such a big part of javier's character. he's so careful and protective of the fronteras, he loves them so much, he can't stand the idea of doing something that could hurt them and he doesn't know if he can trust lloyd with them.

he used to. he trusted lloyd more than anyone. he truly believed he wanted the best for his family. and then he finds out lloyd has been lying to him for years, has made him unknowingly fail in his most important duty, has been deceiving the family he loves so much and he doesn't know if he can trust him to do right by them anymore.

but. but it's lloyd. and javier is very, very weak when it comes to lloyd. even if he doesn't quite realize just how much.

he wants to believe in lloyd. he hopes and he wishes and he tentatively lets himself do it but he doesn't really know if he can.

What you think about the family, the lord, and about me. I cannot tell if you are using us. Whether that is why you have been hiding your identity this entire time. I do not know the answer to anything. However... However... Javier had only one wish. I hope I won't come to regret the countless number of times I made the decision to help you in the past and in the present.

but god does he want to.

and then a big part of the rest of their relationship arc is javier regaining the trust in lloyd he'd lost. is him analyzing lloyd's actions and words and deciding for himself that yes, he can trust this man. he can trust him to do the right thing, he can trust him with his most precious people, he can trust him above anyone else despite the fact that lloyd won't tell him the truth.

and it's extra poignant because lloyd has absolutely no idea about this. javier never lets him know. he goes through a crisis of faith, a slowburn of trust and then has a feelings realization without ever telling lloyd a word about it. lloyd manages to gain back javier's trust plus his complete devotion without even really trying because he doesn't even know he has to.

it's an insane character arc and relationship and i love it. it's also a big part of their dynamic later on the novel and i do not understand why they just. threw it away in favor of an anticlimactic revelation with a dash of character assassination.

i wonder what they will substitute this dynamic with or if they will just,,, not give them anything else to replace it

waking up late was bad enough. missing your bus was another thing. it was raining. and i mean it was RAINING. no umbrella could save you from this weather. somi was out of town today so you couldnt even ask her for a ride. and your mom has already gone off to work so you dont really have a choice but to wait for the next bus… which arrives in 20 minutes.

“fucking great” you mumble. you already know that your mom’s gonna be pissed at you for being late even after she woke you up 3 times before going to work and getting scolded is the last thing you want today.

fast footsteps could he heard from your right. as if someones running. but youre too busy going through your bag to make sure you have everything you need. suddenly a bracelet is thrown into your backpack. its a very pretty bracelet. it had light blue glass beads with a pretty flower gem in the middle.

“omg im so sorr-“ the voice pauses which causes you to look up at the owner of the voice but once you do, you kinda regret it.

“yn?! good morning!” it was that beomgyu kid who texted u on twitter. hes also the kid you bumped into like yesterday.

“sorry about the bracelet… and yesterday when i bumped into you”

so he remembers…

“i… um…”

and then your legs start taking off as you run back to your house. you could hear beomgyu yelling your name but you dont bother to turn around. this is really embarrassing but youd rather run back home and risk getting yelled at by your mother than stand awkwardly with beomgyu.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

I’m a long time fanfic reader, but I didn’t start really writing anything until 2021. I think, probably, because of the pandemic and needing some kind of outlet for creating things (and also because the Miraculous Ladybug plotlines were haunting my dreams, rattling their chains around in my brain until I finally caved and wrote some actual communication/emotional resolution for the characters that I wasn't getting from the show)

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Bahaha there are SO many, because I frequently have to look things up to write all the fun little facts Wylan has in his head. But I’m not sure researching poisons and how to build bombs/fireworks is all that weird, to be honest.

I’m going to go with the time I was writing a Good Omens fic, and I used google street view to virtually walk from the Ritz to around where Aziraphale’s bookshop would be in soho, so I could know exactly what it looked like and if/when they would likely pass by St. James’s park on the way, and what named streets would be on that route. (I’m not even sure that’s that weird. Maybe I need to be weirder...)

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

I do generally believe in the whole “not forcing it and take breaks if you need to” thing usually, but as for advice:

Consume some type of media you really like. Movie, show, book, an old favorite fic, anything that inspires you. I also like going back to the source material for things like fic because it gives me ideas or gets me into the right mental place to write the characters, and I like reading my own fics to brush up on my own interpretations/style.

At some point he loses Wylan to an art book he seems keen on and quietly drifts away with, leaving Jesper to talk to the enthusiastic bookeep on his own.

Jesper’s arms are getting progressively heavier with book recommendations, and the bookkeeper is somehow still holding at least twice as many. He doesn’t understand where they're even coming from at this rate, because more just seem to, to appear each time he looks away. 

He thinks about Kaz and his sleight of hand, and wonders at the chance that the bastard of the Barrel has been giving magic lessons to Wijnstraat booksellers in his free time. 

He actually has read some of the books the man recommends, either because they were commonly popular in his parents house or on the frontier, or from his short stint in university.

Unfortunately, mentioning that prompts the bookeep to ask, “Ah, so you’re a student, then?”

“Er—” Jesper blanches, in such a pitifully uncomposed way that he’s sure he can just feel Kaz shaking his head in judgemental spirit. The bookeep raises one solitary eyebrow, and Jesper, for some reason—probably because he’s Jesper—keeps bloody talking. “Yea-up. Yeah,” he bobs his head in a jerky nod, “Students, at the university. Good ol’ U of K. Woo...” Jesper cheers. Actually cheers. 

Great fucking work Fahey, very believable.

The bookkeep raises his other eyebrow, but smiles kindly. “That must be exciting. What are you studying?”  “Business,” Jesper answers quickly, and makes a concerted effort to not let it sound like a question. 

His fingers twitch, longing to trace over the pearl handles of his revolvers, but they’re hidden deep under the folds of his coat, and—apparently—he’s a university student now. 

I'm probably (definitely) going to be late to my fist class today now, but I really don't regret it.

DESC : ̗̀➛ when the new school year starts, reki meets his seatmate for the remainder of the year, you. then with a school project on both of your hands, and spending almost every minute together, the fondness you share for each other begins to change to something different.

"Good morning."

Reki jolts at the sound of your voice, his desk creaking as it tips over slowly. "Hey!" He greets sheepishly, haphazardly keeping his desk upright. "Morning."

"Long night?" You'd asked as you sat down, watching him stretch his neck.

Reki lays against his desk, huffing as he looks at you. "You've got no idea." He'd spent all afternoon tweaking a board that ended up in flames at the end of the night. He takes in the slight dimness of your eyes and the noticeable darkness under them, "Same for you?" He questioned, turning his body to face you as you sighed.

"Studying," you shrug, practically slamming your notebook onto your desk. "For something completely unnecessary for my future."

Reki chuckles lightly; he understands the feeling. Spending and wasting life's minutes to do something non-beneficial only for it to blow up and out of hand despite hard efforts.

"You've thought about your future a lot?" He asks, curiosity piqued.

You look to the side, "No, not at all." He tilts his head at your answer, looking away from you when your gaze snaps to him. "I just know I won't be using– what is it–" you glance down at your notebook. "Uh– quadratic formulas at a grocery store."

Reki laughs at your example, covering his smile with the back of his hand. "I guess that's true."

The conversation is cut short when the teacher walks in, Reki catching your eye as he sits up. You send him a wink — he feels his face warm — and mouth the word 'lunch' to him.

"Alright class," the professor started, propping their feet on the desk as they leaned back in their chair. "Let's talk business."

I love that so much of DFQC’s arc isn’t so much change, as returning to himself he would have been if his tree of emotion was never destroyed and honestly, he is a genuinely likeable person. What strikes me is not how much he cares for Orchid (after all, chicken bro is ready to destroy the universe for his girl, and it’s not exactly admirable) but how much he is fine with her autonomy, with putting her needs first (unlike chicken bro for whom Chidi Woman is a vessel for what he wants; he knows she’d be appalled and he doesn’t care.) He spent the bulk of today’s eps thinking she was fancying CH but other than carping, he did nothing about it.

This OTP is going on my all time favorite list. I love how utterly equal they are. He bears the spike for her and she bears the cave for him, but for the both it’s not just for the right to be with the other person, it’s for the people - as a way to showing commitment and duty.

1) javier and lloyd joining their hearts together as one (implied by previous attempt)

hiya! My comment on ch 362? Happily!

when lloyd absorbs the Heart of Winter in chapter 283, he initially does it in an act of desperation, knowing that, just like he learned with the Bone Dragon, he doesn't have the capacity to store such vast amounts of mana to disable his foe. He just hopes he gets some of his mana back, or maybe a skill

however - what if he had backup?

javier finds lloyd in the midst of his absorption of the Heart of Winter and realizes that it will not end well if left as is. So. He steps in. And then quite literally binds their manahearts together

Through some good ol magic mathematics that are a bit long to copy and paste, this lets lloyd absorb better. To the point he actually fully subsumes the Heart of Winter.

Fast forward nearly 100 chapters, and lloyd is feeling the ill effects of the Heart of Winter, but now he has the solution - absorb the opposite artifact, the Tears of Summer. Same thing needs to happen here though; it's a lot of mana, and not something lloyd actually has the capacity to absorb on his own so. Lloyd invites javier along.

The same process isnt described again, but lloyd implies javier was needed for the process, and even thanks the man seriously for his help :)

Emma is put at ease by Harriet’s absence. She resolves to say nothing of her engagement to anyone else until Mrs. Weston has given birth.

Readings and Interpretations

Pain and Penitence

Maaja Stewart writes that, at this point in the narrative, Emma “has become the repository of the secret story of each of the other characters,” knowing, for example, of Frank and Jane’s engagement, of Harriet’s love for Mr. Knightley, and of Mr. Knightley’s love for her—but “she no longer values secrets as an index of power” (p. 150, qtd. in Ford n.p.).

Susan Ford argues that, “[D]espite such reformation,” the “new narratives” that Emma constructs are “Gothic” ones that place her in the role of the “villain” (n.p.). Here, “the just suffering due the villain is invoked. Though Mr. Knightley’s proposal brings ‘the exquisite flutter of happiness’ [vol. 3, ch. 14 [50]; p. 284]. Emma is still “haunted” by a “sense of injustice, of guilt, of something most painful’ when she must remember Harriet’s pain” (n.p.). These “Gothic” narratives, however, may prove just as illusory as her previous ones:

Are the new narratives Emma constructs […] any more reliable than her old narratives? Austen would seem to suggest that these old stories, the models provided by the Gothic fiction Emma and Harriet have read, are limited in their usefulness. Harriet has so naturalized these narrative models that the wonder of Mr. Knightley’s love would seem too familiar: “’more wonderful things had happened ...; and therefore, it seems as if such a thing even as this, may have occurred before’” [vol. 3, ch. 11 [47]; p. 267]. Further, Austen squarely sets Emma’s response to Mr. Knightley’s proposal next to the kind of behavior exhibited by the Duchess of C— [a heroine presented in a story in Mme. de Genlis’s Adelaide and Theodore] and Amanda [heroine of Regina Maria Roche’s The Children of the Abbey]: “as to any of that heroism of sentiment which might have prompted her to entreat him to transfer his affection from herself to Harriet, as infinitely the most worthy of the two—or even the more simple sublimity of resolving to refuse him at once and forever, without vouchsafing any motive, because he could not marry them both, Emma had it not” [vol. 3, ch. 13 [49]; p. 283]. The extreme periodicity of Austen’s sentence—the meaning isn’t revealed until the final word—seems to indicate suspense, but of course the nature of Emma’s heroism is never in doubt! Just as it has offered the opportunity to valorize Jane Fairfax as heroic victim, Austen’s novel vigorously rejects the female self-imprisonment and self-denial that both the Duchess of C— and Amanda exemplify. Discussion Questions

Has Emma in fact read much Gothic literature? What evidence do we have that literature has influenced her thinking? Can she be described as a “quixote”?

What would it mean for the structure of Emma for its heroine to be constructing false narratives even now, after her ‘reform’?
