Okay but the way swords in danmei often represent/are associated with manhood and masculinity and the way hensheng is a soft sword and a sneaky weapob could very well represent JGY's position as "lesser" for his origins as a prostitute's son.
Like the way JGY is treated, in lack of better wording, as a woman, throughout the whole novel, (see: the way he's held up to higher standarts than everyone else, the way his standing will plummet with a single whiff of sex relating to him, the way he has to protect himself and take preemptive measures against everyone and everything and most of the time he's right)
I feel it kind of ties onto the way hensheng works, as an assassin's weapon, as something that doesn't require strenght per se, as something hidden easily, etc, and the fact that it's a soft sword— soft as women and JGY are expected to be, soft as they have to be to survive, but deathly nonethelesss
Idk. I'm just very into swords and very into the subtle themes of emasculation around JGY's character

I know the show doesn’t say / confirm anything about Beatrice’s background but like. She is East or South East Asian. And I find it sliiiightly odd that I’ve only read one (1) fic that’s even made that explicit - not explored, just made that a fact in the fic - when KTY has loudly been like “yeah she’s Asian” (because… KTY is Chinese!!!).
Anyway my head canon is that Bea’s mum is old school rich diaspora Chinese, partly because the little info we have about her parents paints a picture of them being a) SUPER rich, b) super old school conservative (in addition to the Catholicism), c) both working in politics, a combination which indicates imo several things that you probably know if you’re British, politically aware and also British East Asian/Chinese:
Her parents more than likely both went to either Oxford or Cambridge - my money is on Oxford
They both probably took Politics, Philosophy and Economics and were members of the Oxford Union (a debate club of obnoxious twats), both things that most Tories deliberately pick if they have any future political inclinations, for networking as much as skills/what they learn. Anyway that’s probably how they met.
If her parents are super rich, super old school conservative and Catholic, imo probably more likely that it’s Bea’s mum who is Chinese as the upper class (esp. the old money) are incredibly racist and particularly so about “foreigners” marrying in, but they may have slightly more “tolerance” re: women than men as they’re also unsurprisingly sexist and the therefore orientalist attitudes towards East Asian women + being rich would maybe go down better than the racist fear of an East Asian man marrying a white daughter.
All this points towards Bea’s mum being old school diaspora Chinese rich imo (think Crazy Rich Asians), as the networking and knowledge (schooling, finances, investments, career opportunities, hobbies, clothing etc.) aligns closest with what we know about Beatrice’s parents. (Also the colonial history makes all this slightly more likely imo).
All this to say that I imagine Bea at Lunar New Year’s alone for many years thinking about her mum and that side of her family with complicated feelings, and then maybe tentatively finding some Chinese or ESEA community clubs in London or wherever to visit (Hackney Chinese Community Service lunch clubs!).

"KILL AMERICANS" - China's New Education Campaign in School
China's new education campaign is absolutely terrifying, and for some reason, no one is talking about it(..)
P.S.Reason is simple - "big business and profits"! Contrary to what is preached in the West, the media and media platforms are NOT free from political censorship and unpleasant "politically incorrect problems" are quite simply hidden from the eyes of the general public and the information space!
The latest developments regarding the Western policy towards China exactly repeat what happened with the growing aggressiveness of the Kremlin before the war in Ukraine. At that time despite all warning signs, the West pretended that nothing was happening and Donald Trump even promised the criminal gang of the Kremlin that he would dismantle NATO...
The "useful idiots" of the West, driven by the greed for profit, continue to invest in the economy controlled by the CCP communist regime, but D.Trump & Co. wants to dismantle the Western collective security system - NATO, leaving the USA alone with the growing military threat created by the Chinese Communists...

the parallel struggles of jewish and chinese diaspora are sometimes deeply frightening. two completely different groups from different parts of the world who for very different reasons have time and time again been subject to harrowing similar forms of violence and repression and conditioning

i’ve seen a lot of posts talking about nimona’s queer messages which is great! but ive not seen as many posts talking analyzing how both ballister and ambrosius were changed to be asian, which is a shame because i genuinely think its one of the most important parts of the film! a huge part of it is a deconstruction of the model minority myth and respectability politics, both of which are big issues in the asian american community. both of them represent each side of the spectrum, with ambrosius expected to be superhuman with very little support and ballister being seen as less than human, no matter how hard he tries- a monster.
ambrosius (who is now east asian, like his voice actor eugene lee yang, who is korean with chinese and japanese ancestry), despite being in a seemingly powerful position as head of the knights and a descendant of gloreth, he isn’t really given the kind of support that this position needs- he’s constantly undermined and belittled by todd, the face of the other knights, and when asked about his emotional state by the director, represses his emotions rather than talk to her about his true feelings. this is very similar to how asian american students in schools aren’t given the support they need academically by teachers and administration, as the model minority myth leads to them being perceived as more intelligent and competent than their fellow students and therefore not needing support. he’s also held to a higher standard than any of the other knights, being immediately placed into a position of power despite just being knighted, again a reflection of the model minority myth, since asian americans are held to higher standards unfairly. despite being technically better off than ballister, he has no support, no friends, no way to seek help for his problems, and, just like ballister, is immediately thrown away the moment the director thinks he’s served his use.
ballister is now pakistani, like his voice actor riz ahmed (no, not like pedro pascal. where did this come from lol), and i’d go as far as to say that he is also, if not explicitly muslim, heavily muslim coded as well. he’s framed as a terrorist by the white, christian institution, and from then on, it doesn’t matter how good he tries to be- everyone else sees him as a monster. he’s also from a lower socioeconomic class than ambrosius and the rest of the knights- while this is initially used to frame him as a success story, after he’s framed, it’s used to cast suspicion on him. almost immediately he’s othered, with posters casting him as a foreign invader sent to destabilize the city, much in the same way that muslim immigrants are seen in real life. even when he tries to be peaceful and good, it’s always twisted so that he’s the monster of the story. while ambrosius is held to too high of a standard, ballister will never be enough for the institution to accept.
which is why both of their arcs culminate in them breaking out of the system, learning to accept what they’d been taught was monstrous, and leaving behind respectability. it’s a genuinely great commentary, and i can definitely see why riz ahmed and eugene lee yang were chosen for this, as they’ve both done activist work for their communities.

“Y-You’ll do no such thing, Yoyo!” she’ll protest with cheeks visibly growing hot. Truth be told, a maidenly part of her didn’t exactly dislike the notion of Ryohei carrying her around bridal style, but considering she had a manly reputation to uphold, she had to resist succumbing to the innate, feminine urge to let him literally sweep her off her feet. Still, Vivian supposes she did actually slip on a banana peel and fall halfway down a flight of stairs right before his very eyes, yet even so, he was being way too melodramatic for her liking!
“Besides, it’ll take more than a silly fall like that to incapacitate me,” Vivian then points out, which if nothing else, was true. Through some miracle, she only managed to sustain a bruise on her pant-clad knee, meaning her injury was nowhere near life threatening. “So can’t you, I dunno... find another helpless maiden to rescue?”

Xi sold Putin complete nonsense! Russians are shocked by Chinese cars
EN - Chinese cars in the Russian Federation did not survive local frosts. Russians complain about pedals falling off, brakes failing and wiring catching fire. Hundreds of Chinese foreign cars are sent for repairs, but there is another problem - a shortage of spare parts. For details about new transport in the Russian Federation, see our story.
P.S. Chinese Communists and Business well know that the Russian imperialists have backed themselves into a corner and will buy any worthless piece of junk with wheels...In addition, the Russians have no rights and no one will take their complaints into account...! China will profit very well at the expense of the Russian fools who are building Putin's crippled Russian world...
