since it's the start of a new year and I'm a bookworm, I figured I'd share some of the aspec books I read in 2023. I've added any of the big content warnings I can think of as well as a link to the books on storygraph where there are more in depth content warnings.

Fiction:

Wren Martin Ruins It All by Amanda DeWitt follows the titular character Wren Martin during senior year of high school as he becomes student council president and fights his vice president to try and get the school's Valentine's Day dance shut down. Wren is very much an externally grumpy person who becomes much more loveable as you get to know him and see the reasoning behind his grumpiness. Rep includes asexual main character and an aromantic side character, and note this book is a romance.

Is Love The Answer by Uta Isaki is a coming of age manga following Chika as she tries to find the answer to who she is and explores her identity. This book is full of aro and ace rep with different life experiences. CW for aphobia and attempted SA.

Just Lizzie by Karen Wilfred is a middle grade book following Lizzie in how a science class assignment helped lead her to an understanding of her asexuality. At the same time, Lizzie is having to adjust to a new home and changes in what was once familiar and safe. CW for aphobia, harassment.

Non-fiction:

Ace and Aro Journeys by The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project (TAAAP) is a really great overview of aspec identities, it gives more time to aro identities than a lot of other books, and provides quotes and information from people on various parts of the spectrums. This book brings in some intersectionality, though it is more broad than a deep dive.

Refusing Compulsory Sexuality by Sherronda J. Brown, which has been my favorite read. This book is fantastic if you're ready for a deep dive into intersectionality and some deeper history on asexuality. This book, despite being very short, is a much heavier read content-wise, but it is very thought provoking and will stick with you. Each chapter gives you content warnings up front for the materials that will be addressed in the chapter. Personally, this book has been my favorite book on the subject and I intend on reading it many more times to capture more of the nuance.

And sometimes by not posting pics of Lance feuding with the League Fax Machine onto the Chatot App but it is everywhere in the GC. They are all friends to me, YOU GET IT. Even the Gym Leaders they are so silly, Johto the land of bonding with people and pokemon in a place of folklore and forestry REAL. You draw sm Will and Karen I love them sm you're doing SO GOOD with the art and the silly Dad Lance and Silver crumbs too also your Clair art is GORGEOUS I literally gasped, its such a good use of the space on the art square, the colors and composition are gorgeous uwahhhh. it is so cool and complete and comprehensive and brain go brrrr with the happy chemical n FIREWORKS. I wish I had a credit card I could commission an art request from you or smth would literally throw $100 at you casually OP, freaking saluTATIONS I feel 25% less coocoo in the pkmn fandom not being alone in every take. hooray. yipee.

I think s2 is a really beautiful and overall quite good expansion and deepening of the themes and arcs of season 1! however, as for my dumb little romantic heart feelings, there is just nothing like the way carmy looked at sydney when she first showed up at the restaurant and looked again. straining the stock after she tells him her history. her eyes watching him as he tries her food. him looking through her notebook. family style? two tops, booths.

i still havent finished re2r properly so ive only seen other ppl get to the parts with sherry while half paying attention but like. i would die for her. i would throw myself onto a licker for her. and leon would too and i wish we got to see more of that

i know its still too early to talk abt it and i wouldnt want it to happen this early either but. if they remake re6 someday i HOPE they go more into leon and sherry's relationship. im assuming that they havent seen each other once ever since raccoon city (since the extended re6 files mention claire hanging out with her only) and then they suddenly see each other again in china and they just. didnt get to talk too much. yeah sure they were constantly in danger and we got to see how protective leon still is of her AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY but i just. idk im sad that we didnt get to see them interact more...

the extended re6 files on re.net have so much important stuff in them, both abt leon and sherry.... and you never hear them talk abt those stuff ever anywhere else. i hope they put that in the games someday :(

okay so this book was so eye opening to what hades was doing this whole book, because the only thing it explains in persephone’s pov is when he was with Leuce. But reading that Hera was fucking with him making him do all these tasks was kind of insane to me. i kind of started to get a distaste for hades in a touch of ruin but now reading this one, i was like holy fuck omg. i’m excited for the next one

i think my favorite line out of the whole book is when hermes tells hades to get wet and then calls him daddy death. i died at it

I feel like the number of very noticeable pauses in Isaac's speech pattern this season are significant, but I can't put my finger on why.
