Do you have a scene you really look forward to writing/loved writing for the next Ghost Cass fic? Alternatively what is your favourite scene/piece of dialogue from Ghost Cass so far?

Do you have a scene you really look forward to writing/loved writing for the next Ghost Cass fic?

Yes. I came up with the idea for it several years ago while on shift at my last job and wrote it down on receipt paper. The fun thing about mindflayers is that they're limited to reading the minds of people they know are there - their telepathy is based on being able to cast Detect Thoughts at will, and that spell has this little clarifying line: "When you cast the spell and as your action on each turn until the spell ends, you can focus your mind on any one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you."

So. That's kind of annoying for Clarota. But there's this: "You can also use this spell to detect the presence of thinking creatures you can't see. When you cast the spell or as your action during the duration, you can search for thoughts within 30 feet of you. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of any metal other than lead, or a thin sheet of lead blocks you. You can't detect a creature with an Intelligence of 3 or lower or one that doesn't speak any language. // Once you detect the presence of a creature in this way, you can read its thoughts for the rest of the duration as described above, even if you can't see it, but it must still be within range."

However, after doing much thinking about specifically the Pepperbox during the Underdark, and how Kima, despite her paladin abilities, never registered Orthax in it... . The pepperbox isn't likely to be solid led and it's also unlikely to have much of it be two-inches thick - but Orthax was never detected. Consequently I want to say that the Pepperbox definitely counts as full cover for that kind of non-sighted detection and, given Percy has thoughts of his own to confuse this kind of a spell, for the case of Detect Thoughts so would Percy, blocking such detection abilities.

So Clarota knows Percy thinks there's someone else there! That he talks to them in his head! But he can't detect jack shit, so he thinks Percy is crazy.

That was a lot of fun.

So far uh...

Like I love Percy giving out to Syldor for being a shitty dad, but the one which stuck with me most was probably the Keyleth chapter of the year break, while she does her Aramente test with the Terrah. Writing up her Oloore-root dream-vision was an awful lot of fun, trying to convey the conflicted emotions and the dreamlike nature of it and match it to what Marisha recounted on-stream of it...

Yeah, that was a lot of fun and I'm really proud of it.

Rewatching the first arc of campaign 1 and reflecting on how right from the beginning it very specifically determined my approach to Matt Mercer's NPCs. Like yes, there's absolutely no reason to trust this one and they are ABSOLUTELY going to betray the party, but you're so good at making characters likeable that I'm just gonna make the decision to fully go along with you on it and love them.

The betrayal is more fun when it breaks your heart a bit anyway.
