ON THE TOPIC OF BARNABY. as well as his relationship with Wally.
So. To kick this off - Riv (@funonion) and I were Speculating, and they introduced me to the johari window:
They put Barnaby in the “facade” section, and I entirely agree. To quote them;
“So he’s Wally’s guide, right? He’s the “knowledgeable” one of the two and is always the one teaching him new things. And you know, it’s one thing if you’re just teaching him how to laugh or how to tell a joke. But.
Clown has given us two doors. One says that Barnaby understands Wally in a way the rest of the neighborhood doesn’t, and is willing to do his dirty work so to speak. The other says that their friendship was not a natural occurring thing and had to be enforced repeatedly within the show. HOW THAT’S BEING ENFORCED IS ANOTHER THING ENTIRELY but it is worth it to note.
What is Barnaby willing to keep? What is he willing to bury for his little buddy? I can’t say anything definitively yet, but the fact that I even have to ask is telling. The class clown archetype is usually used as a way to cover up for something else a character might be experiencing”
And my response, (I won’t directly quote because I have little things in the phrasing & elaboration to add / tweak );
Barnaby being a Comic Relief Character immediately raised so many alarms in my head. I love comic relief characters. They’re always so fucked up in one way or another, and Barnaby is almost certainly SO inauthentic. He’s wearing a comedy mask just as opaque as Wally’s own mask. In everything we’ve seen about him so far he’s either Teaching Wally, wisecracking/joking, or… pretty much nothing else. We got that moment of concern in audio 14-14, but that doesn’t reveal anything beyond genuine care for Wally.
Comedic characters have the best disguises. Their poker faces & ability to deflect is always top tier [and practiced], and just look at comedy-focused actors and entertainers - so many of them have severe issues, either with their mental health or life. From what i’ve observed both in that aspect & with fictional characters, they play it off & work hard to entertain/deflect [one in the same] right up until the end. Sometimes it’s a coping mechanism. Usually it’s both. If they laugh loud enough and make people think they’re lighthearted fools w/ nothing underneath, no one will look any deeper and thus they’re “safe”.
& I’m a little suspicious that Barnaby’s red/orange/yellow spots aren’t naturally those colors. While yes, he could be (in-universe) designed that way to echo Ms. Beagle, there’s a strong possibility that that’s not it. What if he paints them to feel a connection to her, or it’s a physical manifestation of Barnaby covering up his insecurities/issues - what if it’s part of him striving to convince the world that he is what he paints himself as.
The laidback funnyguy with a loving mom and not a problem in the world.
And I mean, Barnaby claims to be a natural blue and I believe him! But the other colors? I’m doubtful
(I was going to include the Cast As Lil Kids Designs in this since Barnaby has all blue spots, but given how early in 2021 it was posted and how there seem to be little discrepancies from the ~official~ designs, I don’t want to provide it as evidence.)
& on the topic of Wally and Barnaby’s relationship being both real and not - disclaimer, this conversation happened before my Updated Thoughts On Them post, so there may be some minor rephrasing here from what I originally said - I’m sure that the relationship started out as inauthentic. Wally was assigned Barnaby as a best friend and technically vice versa, but I don’t doubt for a second that it became real to some extent. Clown wouldn’t treat their relationship outside of “canon” WH stuff the way that he does if they weren’t actually friends. They’ve said that Wally & Barnaby would be friends in every universe (which melts my heart <3 platonic soulmates my beloved <3), so then I have to agree with Riv. what WILL Barnaby do for Wally? I touched on this in the Milk Theory, but especially if Barnaby prides himself on “knowing Wally better than anything else”, what would Barn do to preserve that?
This relates to another conversation we had - Barnaby possibly having abandonment issues. It’s such a choice to have him of all characters be explicitly stated as an orphan. That and while every other Neighbor with a mentioned family have a somewhat large one (Howdy and his gajillion relatives, Julie and her three siblings, Poppy and her crowded tree [note: Eddie has a mentioned mother, but that info is tenuous and who knows if there are other Dears]), Barnaby has also explicitly stated that Ms. Beagle is his only family. That’s it. And farm life can’t be a sociable way to grow up, not with all the chores he must have had and how rural he might have grown up. Barnaby jokes that Home is the “Big Apple”, which could just be a joke - but jokes often come from a place of truth, and Home might be the most populated area Barnaby has lived in. Who’s to say!
Either way, Barnaby was orphaned one way or another, and I don’t doubt that it weighs on him. Especially if his birth parents really did abandon him. That added to a possible life of loneliness… I wonder if he’s latched onto Wally emotionally, which would hit all the painful places if it turns out that my “Barnaby is more attached to Wally than Wally is to Barnaby” theory has merit. Abandonment issues could also strongly back the apparent walls he’s plastered over with circus tent fabric
Back to Barnaby & Wally: the fact that, at present, Barnaby and Wally seem to have the best disguises / strongest masks. That. looking at 14-14, i suspect that Barnaby is excellent at keeping his up, but as soon as Wally’s mask cracks, so does Barnaby’s.
And then there’s the side of their dynamic that we could look at - it seems to be a very multifaceted relationship. The way that Barnaby genuinely cares yet in the 00 Halloween audio Wally was left off to the side and Barnaby was just “checking on him” while socializing (then again, this could be part of Barnaby understanding Wally & respecting his space / Wally wanting a break from that socialization). Barnaby is patient with Wally and yet he seems to sometimes treat Wally as his sidekick / let him fade into the background and yet Barnaby kept checking in on Wally during the 14 bug audios (this last one I could tie into the abandonment issues theory).
Then there’s how Barnaby calls Wally kid & can tend to treat him like one despite both of them being in the same age group. The way that all of this could, in a way, relate to the infantilization of autistic people (no matter how well-meaning or unintentional) & internalized ableism.
Note: Riv pointed out that Barnaby does seem to be doing the best with what he has, and that this can connect to the Johari Window’s blind spot / unknown.
I do agree with this wholeheartedly! And I have to mention that - and making a Very educated guess here - the interactions we’ve seen take place in the very late 60s / very early 70s, so Barnaby’s behavior towards Wally is actually pretty fucking stellar given the time period. We can’t expect him to be perfect or do everything / say everything right. That would be boring I think! And one thing I deeply appreciate about the Neighbors & their dynamics is that they feel like real layered people, not cardboard cutouts being perfect caricatures of what people are “supposed” to be like.

We likely are going to reach a point where Wally asks Barnaby something that he can’t / doesn’t want to / won’t answer. And like.. Ok. This is a slight tangent but I swear it’s related! When I first discovered WH and learned the Wally basics, I wondered two things.
Are we going to watch Wally “discover” new emotions? Because he certainly has them. Clown has said that Wally only ever feels happy, and a lot of people took that to mean that Wally can’t feel anything else. I don’t think we should take that answer at face value, because. I mean. Look at the project & creator we’re talking about. Layers, guys. Indirect direct answers. I think that Clown meant that Wally only ever feels happy in the Neighborhood because he has no reason to feel any negative emotion. Everything is as it should be. Until it isn’t - and I think that’s where he’s going to have to struggle with new emotions as he encounters them through new situations/events unfolding as the “story” starts to deteriorate. We’ve actually seen this a little bit - in Wally’s record audios (i believe the chronological second to last?), the way he says “Let Me In” so insistently. That’s definitely not a positive emotion being expressed.
How will the topic of death be handled - because it will be handled, it’s stated in the project warnings. I was wondering this even before I read the list, because I was presented with a blank slate puppet character and so went “oh fuck, this dude doesn’t know about death, does he?” Obviously I wanted to know how that would go. I want to know how it Will go!
How would Barnaby explain emotions that Wally doesn’t know how to convey? How would Barnaby explain death in a way that Wally would understand - given that Barnaby (& all the Neighbors sans Wally) knows what death is - and would Barnaby be willing to explain such a thing? I have a feeling we may find out.
And in a way, I suspect that if none of them know, Wally will find out himself and have to process it without help. But then again, how can something die if it was never really alive in the first place? Unless the death warning relates to human characters… I’m currently assuming it relates to both humans and puppets.
In conclusion: Barnaby has a carefully fabricated facade, he's doing the best with what he has but it likely won't be enough, and uh. shits fucked!

Our Beloved Summer

Viktor Ivanov had come up with a brilliant idea for a successful documentary. He'd find the top student in high school and pair them up with the lowest one, seeing how they could get along. A social experiment of sorts. Caitlyn Kiramman, stuck up rich priss, was the top student while Vi Lane, artist and class clown, was at the bottom. As expected, the two of them constantly bumped heads but Viktor kept filming - mostly because their banter was entertaining.
Over time, the two became close friends and then lovers. The two of them were happy together but then, Caitlyn would break up with her during their final year of college and just like that, they were strangers again.
Five years later, the two women were at different crossroads. Vi was a bartender but did art as a secret hobby, submitting her work to art galleries under a false name while worked at her family's bank.
But Viktor needs them back together to film a sequel to the highly successful documentary they had made back in high school. It's bound to be a disaster since Caitlyn and Vi hate each other. But over time, old feelings rise back to the surface and they begin to wonder if their decision to part ways in the first place had been the right one.

In her debut full-length collection, Ms. Dym feeds us stories of love, laughter, and food itself, food is love / love is food, juxtaposed in stark contrast to the often-shocking tragedies that inhabit the human condition. For example, amidst the decadence and pampering of a mother-daughter Christmas Eve, we find a man / in shadow / beds down / blankets on the concrete sidewalk. Themes of longing, impermanence, brokenness, loss, grief, and death echo throughout this poignant work. We are invited into secret places where treasures are kept: a lock of baby’s curls; a dead mother’s rings. The poet asks: Is anybody watching me? Can you see me? Do you hear me? And says outright: I am singing to you. Indeed, the poet sings of nature, both the beautiful and the brutal and we, like the millipede in her kitchen, climb on the wall to observe as human and animal lives mingle. This hybrid-form writing begins in a kind of staccato like stand-up, like the news and with the poet, we are drawn into the possibility of what’s around the next corner. The prose poems in ‘The Hatchet Sun’ took my breath away. Violence, avoidance, and dysfunction abound in such works as ‘History’, but the prose itself lingers in the mind as pure poetry. An alternative view of Dym’s vision is presented in her sensuously explored visual images and sounds, and the satisfactions of maternal feeling, with reference to her daughter, as ‘my very best work’. The father monolith rears his head from time to time in this brimming and varied collection, and a wise poet like Dym recognises the role of generation and inheritance. Life is a camouflage of colour and shade in the poem ‘When the Octopus Dreams’, and we, like the multi-brained, three-hearted octopus, are pulled into our emotional colors according to experience. The writer enquires ‘Am I changing color?’ and the burden of obligation demands that this beautiful poem conclude with the instinctive longing ‘If only I had another brain, another heart, an extra arm’.
The collection includes poems of desire, and a stomach ‘fills with several hundred chrysalises . . . & moths spill from my lips . . .’ This is where Dym triumphs, in her evocation of what is lost forever but which may at times be tremulously attained again. There is a delicacy to such work, a wistfulness light as a door knocker lifted up by the wind.
This sensuous and unashamedly intellectual poet brings gifts of authority to her work, which presents itself here as achieved, memorable and entirely compelling. As a bulwark against changing times, poems such as Love Opus 18 for the Bassoon show the full scope of a journey characterised by curiosity and the writer’s own sense of her (and by inference our) place in the cosmos. In such a cosmos, math, music, and history coalesce quite magnificently. A collection to be savoured.

Do you think the cast of Roswell is heading to Sante Fe next week already? Vlamis comments about enjoying his last week in LA kinda confused myself.
I think some actually might, yeah. Not necessarily everyone, also probably not in order to self-quarantine, but to get settled and do what’s usually done ahead of a new season.
Like going to costume fittings, getting lectured on Covid testing, sanitizing and other health regulations, and doing other organizational stuff. Vlamis also said in his Twitter Q&A, that he hasn’t received any S3 scripts so far.
I think they already had individual talks with the writers via Zoom, but maybe not as a cast (like they know things about their respective characters, but not the other characters? IDK, I’m guessing here)?
I think table reads could still be a thing if they find a well ventilated space where everyone fits, and if they keep wearing masks and everyone gets their own table (and probably a microphone xD), it should be possible to go through scripts like they used to in the past.
The core cast also relocates to Santa Fe for more than half a year in total (with breaks for everyone, but filming is expected to last until April or May next year), and considering that going back and forth between their respective home towns and Santa Fe isn’t as easily done under current conditions, they’ll probably have a lot of stuff they’ll bring (not just clothes but stuff like workout equipment, cooking equipment, computers, bed linen, and so on) bc it might be a while until they can go home again. And while I think that they all rent furnished flats, they might still have to buy some things to make the rented space feel more like “home”.
At least this time, Vlamis will be able to drive to Santa Fe himself (last year his house mate Roarke drove him bc Vlamis’d had a knee operation and couldn’t drive himself). It’s a ~13hrs drive to Santa Fe from LA (without breaks), maybe he’ll take a break or two on his way and make it a 2-3 days drive? I think Trevino did that last year. Either way, I’m sure Vlamito’ll keep us updated via his stories. xD
I expect to see “heading back to Santa Fe” activity from most core cast members starting next week, and I think by the end of the week after next (around Oct 10/11), they’ll probably all be in Santa Fe. (Which would mean that Tyler’d celebrate his birthday (Oct 12) in Santa Fe - who knows, maybe he’ll stay in LA for his birthday and drive to Santa Fe after? 🤔We’ll see.)
AND THEN IT’S ALMOST TIME FOR S3 (AND FOR US TO GET OUR OUTFITS READY AND PUT OUR MAKEUP ON 🤡)

A Scaramucci
This is a short essay prompted by one of University of Chicago’s essay prompts this year. I am looking at colleges to apply to and heard about their infamous essay prompts and while I’m not applying this year I felt so strongly about some of their prompts I decided to write my own essays for them anyways. So here is one of those:
Prompt: “ In Homer’s Iliad, Helen had a “face that launched a thousand ships.” A millihelen, then, measures the beauty needed to launch one ship. The Sagan unit is used to denote any large quantity (in place of “billions and billions”). A New York Minute measures the period of time between a traffic light turning green and the cab behind you honking. Invent a new unit of measurement. How is it derived? How is it used? What are its equivalents?

A Scaramucci

Now I am not the first person to write about the Scaramucci online. I know this because my mother ruined my dreams by finding it on wikipedia; here’s a link for your viewing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_humorous_units_of_measurement#:~:text=A%20Scaramucci%20is%2011%20. I respect their entry but I still wish to steal the glory from my father and brother (even though another has stolen it first) and elaborate on the use of this unit. The wikipedia entry defines a Scaramucci as “11 (sometimes 10) days and is named after the length of White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci's tenure under President Trump. A Scaramucci is shortened to a Mooch” which I mostly agree with but my family uses a Scaramucci or “Mooch” as ten days. Sidenote: I don’t agree with the shortened version of the unit due it’s misspelling of the word. It should be “Mucc” or “Mucci” not “Mooch” with two Os as Scaramucci is not spelled with two Os. It isn’t even spelled with one O.
Now that our unit has been defined and correctly named let us explore it’s uses. Technically it could be used to measure any amount of time, however, my family prefers to use it regarding political based times or any amount of time not expected to be long or decaying to nothing. So mostly it should be used to express how long something lasted or how long you believe it will last. My brother jokingly suggested it be used to measure half-life, however, half-life is how long till half is left. A Scaramucci should only be used to say when nothing is left.
Some equivalents could be the obvious 10 days, or the average 3 Scaramuccis in a month. Even 36.5 Scaramuccis in a year. I’d like to say that google docs really wants the plural of Scaramucci to be “Scaramuccia” instead of “Scaramuccis”. Which I find hilarious as upon a google search I have found that a “Scaramouche” or the Italian “Scaramuccia” is a 16th century stock clown character. I now see where Google stands regarding Anthony Scaramucci. Due to this hilarious fact I will, from this point forward, use Scaramuccia as the plural of a Scaramucci. Sorry for the tangent.
I could list more equivalents of a Scaramucci, however, theoretically you could convert any unit of time to Scaramuccia if you wished. Though, you may not be using it correctly (reference paragraph two). I would, however, like to note that while scrolling through the previously quoted wikipedia page that established a Scaramucci that it is nearly equivalent to a kilowarhol, which is 15,000 minutes or 10.42 days. This being derived from Andy Warhol’s dictum “everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”
I hope anyone who reads this will now use Scaramuccia to record many times in their life as my family does around the dinner table constantly. If you don't do so well then you’re missing out. I mean who doesn’t love a base 10 system? Metric is far superior (even though I’m from the US) and using a Scaramucci you can even make your time base 10. Those around you may not understand your schedules and never seem to show up on time but it’s all worth it to know your unit is superior. Though you can’t actually use it like that unless you want to be wrong (reference paragraph two! How many times have I told you this?). Use it right folks, and stop allowing me to fool you so easily.

I wish I had kissed you that night on the dorm roof, you know?
The wind whipped around the two of them, biting into their coats and making Tetsurou’s hair even messier, if the bedhead gods would even allow that. Kenma wheezed like a broken record as he trudged up the last few steps, groaning as he collapsed next to Tetsurou on the ice-cold concrete, breath coming out in short, panting puffs.
“Why are we here, Kuroo?” he asked tiredly.
“Kenma, look! We can see the entire city from here! I come up here to think sometimes, or when I can’t sleep.” Tetsurou exclaimed.
As Kenma sat up from his prone position on the floor, he caught sight of the twinkling lights of Tokyo. It truly was beautiful, like jewels spilling out of a child’s toy box and catching on an ethereal light millions of kilometers away.
Tetsurou turned to look at Kenma, and the slight movement caused a bit of air to breeze through Kenma’s hair. He realized that they were oh-so-close, close enough that he thought he could count the individual eyelashes, as numerous as the stars, close enough that he could lean in and…
Kenma turned away, and for a moment, Tetsurou’s heart dropped. But then, Kenma’s soft voice filled the air.
“Not like this, Kuroo.”
Tetsurou backed up. For Kenma, he would wait forever.
He didn’t know how literal that would become.
I’m sorry I’m so selfish. I wish I could’ve let you go, let you move on, but I have so many things I wish I could’ve said to you.
Do you know that the day I knew I was in love with you, it wasn’t anything special? I know that I always say that I want something “interesting” and that boring isn’t for me, but that day, we were doing the most mundane things.
It was the time we binged the horror movies and you were screaming the entire time. Do you remember? Do you remember how I held your hand, even though I was tired? Do you remember how I ignored my parent’s calls?
Do you remember how you smiled at me?
Tetsurou plopped down on the couch. “KYANMAAAAAA!” he called into the kitchen, where the bleached-hair male was making popcorn for their horror movie night. “It’s about to start, come on!”
From the other room, Kenma sighed. “Kuroo, you’re the one who insisted that we ‘had to have’ popcorn for horror movie night,” he said as he walked into the room carrying an overflowing bowl of said snack.
Without replying, Tetsurou grabbed an overflowing handful of popcorn and stuffed it into his mouth. Kenma sniffed. “Have some manners and stop eating like a 19th century barbarian, won’t you?”
Tetsurou rolled his eyes and patted the spot next to him. “Come on, Kenma! I even got your favorite blanket.” Kenma reluctantly sat down next to him, closer than he probably should have if he had wanted to keep his distance.
As the movie progressed, Tetsurou got increasingly louder and closer to Kenma, ending up clutching Kenma’s arm as a clown jumped out of nowhere and blood sprayed all over the screen. Suddenly, the suspenseful atmosphere was broken by the insistent ringing of Kenma’s phone. Kenma glanced at the screen, then put it on silent.
Tetsurou peeked at the device. “Hey, aren’t those your parents? Don’t you have to pick it up?”
“Nah.” Kenma replied shortly.
Tetsurou’s face broke out in a radiant smile, one that was genuine and looked like warm honey and bright days laying in sunflower fields.
“You know you looooove me, Kenma!”
He hoped there was some truth behind those words.
I’m grateful to the universe for pulling us together, even though sometimes I wish they hadn’t.
If we had never met that day in lab, I wouldn’t have stayed so long and let myself be broken more.
And you wouldn’t be hurting now.
I’m sorry, Tetsurou.
Tetsurou’s ears perked up as he heard an emphatic curse word filled his ears. Oya? What was this? He glanced over and caught sight of a boy with bleached hair and dark roots growing out shaking his hand. Oh wow, cute. Wait, what?
Tetsurou knew he was bisexual, but he’d never had this reaction so soon after just seeing someone for the first time. Whatever. The boy probably needed help anyways, and Tetsurou was just this kind.
He sidled up next to him. “Need some help?” he asked.
The boy glanced up at him in shock and actually hissed. “I’m doing fine just the way I am.”
Tetsurou put his hands up in a gesture of surrender, “Hey, just offering. Also, that isn't sodium. Kuroo Tetsurou, by the way.”
In the end, Tetsurou ended up helping Kenma the entire class, even through the smaller boy’s (half-hearted) protests.
He also figured out why Kenma intrigued him so much.
Hey, don’t beat yourself up for this, okay? It was inevitable.
You helped me so much, Tetsurou. Even though it hurt to stay for so long, I also saw so many beautiful things with you. Thanks to you, I was happy before I had to leave.
If you’re still not convinced, do you remember that day when Akane wouldn’t stop trying to touch me?
That was just one of so many times you saved me, Tetsurou.
Tetsurou ran after Kenma, calling his name (softly, he knew Kenma could be set off by noises sometimes). There was a girl in Kenma’s group in Business Management class, and she couldn’t seem to take a hint, always trying to toss an arm around his shoulders or tug him somewhere.
(Tetsurou did all that, but he knew that if Kenma actually didn’t want him to, he’d know by now.)
He found the smaller boy crouched in an empty classroom, arms over his head.
“Hey, hey, Kenma. It’s okay. She’s gone now.” he said gently, kneeling down next to him.
“Can I touch you?” Tetsurou asked tentatively.
When he got no response, just a blank stare and tears running down Kenma’s face, Tetsurou sat down next to him, leaving a careful distance between the two of them.
“You know, I saw this new game at the electronics store the other day.” he said, trying to distract Kenma. “I think it’s the newest version of Mario Kart? If you want to, we can go pick it up this Friday then spend the entire Saturday playing.”
Still no response. Kuroo tried another tactic.
“I’ll buy you apple pie…” he attempted bribing.
“K-Kuroo?” came a muffled, broken voice next to him.
“Yes, kitten?” Kuroo asked, immediately attentive.
“Can you just… hold me?”
“Of course.”
That day, Tetsurou resolved to never let Kenma face anything alone again.
I told my parents about you. We both know how well that went. There’s a box of things from my childhood that I want you to have. They’ll mail it to your dorm.
There are so many things I wish that we could have done together that we never will. The first of those is that I wish I could have brought you home to my parents, but that’s not possible.
Did I ever tell you what they said that day?
Tetsurou paused outside of Kenma’s dorm room, apple pie in hand. He hadn’t dropped by in a week - finals were a bitch - and had planned to surprise Kenma with some of his favorite dessert as an apology for flaking on their weekly horror movie night.
The sound of his name paused Tetsurou in his tracks.
“Mom, I swear, Kuroo-san isn’t like that - and even if it was, it’s got nothing to do with you.”
“M- Oh, Dad. Dad ! Uh-huh.”
“I’ve told you before, hanging out with a bisexual person who I might like will not turn me any gayer.”
“Mom, please, you’ll like him, he’s nice, has a great sense of humor - he’ll talk volleyball with Dad, Mom, can you please just try to listen?”
The sound of a phone hitting a wall.
Even though we never got to be together, thank you for the memories, Tetsu.

The Way Things Ought To Be...
For some reason these photos look eerily familiar to the 2019 season
Before we embark on the 2021 Husker Baseball season, I feel it is important to take a look back and bring some closure to the 2020 season that might have been. The Huskers were returning several key starters to a team that finished 2019 with an outstanding record of 20-3, and I think that we can all agree that expectations for this group were at an all time high. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be, as the Coronavirus robbed these young men of what was sure to be a monumental season in the history of Higginsville athletics. But fear not, for I have been blessed with the uncanny ability to see not only what might have been, but also the way things ought to be. So please walk with me as we journey through space and time, and revisit the 2020 Husker campaign, through the eyes of an alternate universe….

Preseason
Coach Landon Figg embarks on his first campaign as head coach, and is immediately impressed with the talent and depth of his inaugural Huskers squad. Thirty-two players show up on the first day of training, and each and every one of them is equipped with full sleeves on their practice shirts. It is also important to note that not a single player is wearing “Hey Dudes” instead of their required baseball cleats. Drama is at an all-time low, and almost no one gets mouthy with the new skipper. It is obvious that senior leadership is taking control of the dugout.

Early Season
The Huskers get off to a hot start, posting victories in their first eight contests. They have outscored their opponents by an astounding 74-3 margin. Mason Rumsey, Mason Gash, Noah Iles, and freshman Cade Limback become the first players in Higginsville history to hit back to back to back to back home runs in a single game. Fans travel from miles around to marvel at the fences and dugouts at the newly renovated Fairground Park. They are also equally impressed with the size and quality of the Husker concession hotdogs. Everyone agrees that it is hands-down the best bang for your buck in the entire conference.

Mid-Season
Higginsville continues their torrid start by rattling off wins in their next 10 games, and stretching their streak to 18. Payton Boehm sets a school and state record by striking out 21 batters in a single game. But unfortunately the milestone was short lived, as Iles bested the feat two games later, handing out 22 K’s (he struck out four in one inning due to a player reaching first on a dropped third strike.) James Wilkson completes a personal best, by swiping four bases in one contest, while Dawson Kouril runs his season total to 14 outfield assists. Logan Warren hits a deep line drive to center field, but this year, instead of hitting the fence, it clears the barrier by at least 50 ft. Jonah Dotson and Ethan Rankin each pitch in with pinch hit walk-off doubles to seal Husker victories. But probably most impressive of all, is the fact that the Higginsville coaching staff never had to remind a single player to go after a foul ball.

Late Season
The Huskers finish their regular season campaign with a perfect record of 25-0, winning the Conference title. Mason Gash sets the school record for most home runs in a season (21) and career (whatever that math comes out to be). Jace Kerley prompts the creation of a new category in the record books, by being hit by a pitch 42 times. Nick Herrera finishes the season with an on base percentage of .800, due to an average of two free passes per game. current Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega. Due to their ambitions they were harassed and followed for several years by Nicaraguan police and eventually thrown in jail for their intentions.[1]
Daniel Ortega has been serving as President of Nicaragua since 2007. Since Fidel Castro’s retirement in 2008, Ortega has become the longest serving non-royal leader in the Americas. [2] In 2008, during his second term as President, Ortega took full control of all four branches of government which include the executive, legislative, judicial, and electoral branches. The most recent Presidential election in Nicaragua took place on November 7th, 2021. Protests in Nicaragua first began on April 18, 2018 due to new social security reforms put in place by President Ortega that increased citizens taxes while decreasing benefits. [4] There were five days of civil unrest, in which almost 30 citizens were killed before Ortega pulled back the reforms. [4] Ever since there has been political unrest in Nicaragua that has been fueled by demands to remove Ortega from presidency. These ongoing protests have become the deadliest conflict in the country since the end of the Nicaraguan Revolution in 1990. [5] More than 2,000 protests have taken place since, where at least 350 citizens have been killed by the police or paramilitaries, thousands have been injured, and over 700 people have been arrested. [3] Ortega, on September 29, 2018, made political demonstrations illegal although they still continue to happen. [4] According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, around 108,000 Nicaraguans have fled the country since these protests started. [4]
Regarding the most recent election on November 7th, 2021, crowds have gathered in many cities around the world, including San José, Miami, and Madrid to protest against the Nicaraguan government. [7] In Costa Rica, protestors were dressed up as clowns to indicate the “circus” elections taking place. [7] In Miami, people marched through Ruben Dario Park, named
after the infamous Nicaraguan poet, holding Nicaraguan flags and signs opposing the recent electoral fraud. [7] Lastly in Madrid, people surrounded Spain’s congressional building carrying signs suggesting to reject the Sunday election results. [7] A recent CID – Gallup poll found that
only 19% of Nicaraguans would actually vote for Ortega if they were given the choice. [8] It is important to understand the people of Nicaragua are forced into accepting Ortega as their president and recent polls and protests help support this claim.
