Seasonal sugars have always been a thing, yes we still love @dixie_crystals but this recipe came from deeeeeep within the old handwritten recipes left behind by my granny’s mother. They didn’t have much but they had a cow and chickens and honey, molasses, or sap syrups and occasionally some cinnamon (usually around Christmas). Custard was mostly a winter treat. Poor man’s dessert looks an awful lot like fancy food these days doesn’t it.
