Ok, so hear me out:
The only way I can possibly think for Gladys to have her happy ending is for Carrie Astor to get the Consuelo storyline and Gladys to have the happier variation of it?
Think about it! So, lets say the Lords descend upon New York and rumor mill has it they are looking for wives and what have you blah blah blah. Bertha, of course, wants Gladys to go for the handsome and powerful Duke Whatshisname. Much to Bertha's displeasure, Gladys falls for Thatoneguy, Earl of Whatever. Why does she fall for Earl of Whatever? The Earl is practical and kind (well, as kind as a rich person can be lmaoo) and not penniless, he warns Gladys of why the Lords are there and that Duke Whatshisname is desperate for a rich heiress with a hefty dowry. Gladys tries to warn Carrie but Carrie won't hear it and they have a falling out.
Gladys becomes engaged to Earl Whatever with the full support of her father against Bertha's wrath and is still invited to Carrie's wedding to avoid scandal and shit, Bertha has a talk with Carrie's mother and realizes what a bullet Gladys had dodged.
Carrie finds out the Duke's true motives but its too late to cancel the wedding. At the ceremony, there is a scene of Bertha and George and Gladys and Earl Whatever all noticing how sorrowful Carrie looks as she walks up to be married.
After the wedding, Bertha apologizes to Gladys and Earl Whatever, giving them her blessing and slightly threatening the Earl in good humor. Gladys and Carrie have a heartfelt talk and vow to remain friends after all before Carrie goes off to England.
And SCENE.

“In a documentary, the late Diana Vreeland, former editor-in-chief of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, referred to Consuelo Vanderbilt as "the most beautiful human being that ever lived". I might reasonably disagree with Diana's statement, but I can't deny that Consuelo was a true spectacle of beauty and elegance, as well as her humanitarian actions.” - Text & Image Submitted by cenacevedo15

Review: American Duchess
Synopsis: Before Meghan and Harry, another American ‘princess’ captured the hand of an English aristocrat.  Now, Karen Harper tells the tale of Consuelo Vanderbilt, her “The Wedding of the Century” to the Duke of Marlborough, and her quest to find meaning behind “the glitter and the gold.” On a cold November day in 1895, a carriage approaches St Thomas Episcopal Church on New York City’s Fifth…

Oh, I cannot wait for Glady's Consuelo-Vanderbilt ass storyline to come to fruition!! It's so obvious that's what Bertha will be aiming for or she would have had no problem with Oscar! I hope they get someone handsome and I hope they at least make it so he genuinely loves Gladys!

“I was surprised to find out how many connections the Vanderbilt family had to royalty. Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt apparently had a lesbian relationship with Nadejda Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven and was engaged to Gottfried, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, a great-grandson of Queen Victoria and of Tsar Alexander II. Her sister Thelma Furness, Viscountess Furness was the mistress of Edward VIII and was the person to introduce him to Wallis Simpson. Grace Vanderbilt was the guardian of Lady Pamela Hicks when she was shipped off to New York and the Mounbattens became very close to family. Consuelo Vanderbilt was proposed to by Prince Francis Joseph of Battenberg (who was the brother of Prince Henry Battenberg, who married Princess Beatrice, a daughter of Queen Victoria) but she turned him down. No wonder Prince Harry did an interview with Anderson Cooper 😅. I’m sure there’s many more connections but I just find that all so fascinating.” - Submitted by Anonymous

Okay, I know (from past fandom experiences) that I am the master of crackships. However, I saw a post from @opulent-film about predictions for season 3 and they mentioned a possible romance between Gladys and Jack, due to Jack and Larry going into business together meaning g Jack would be over at the Russel’s a lot.
Now, I cannot stop thinking about them. How they would be friends with some bickering back and forth. He would show her his mother’s grave, Marian and Larry being supportive. Jack possibly stopping her wedding with the duke or Gladys being a runaway bride. Then eloping?! I just feels like it makes sense for both of their storylines.
One random idea I had that is COMPLETELY out there is the possibility of Jack giving Gladys a spoon ring. I don’t know if it was popular in the Gilded age, but I think it would be kinda romantic if Jack took a spoon (from either the Van Rhijn or Russel house), and making a ring out of it to give it to Gladys. I know that’s out there but I had the idea and I can’t get it out.
I don’t know, what do you guys think? Do you think it could be a possibility in season 3
