HELLO, LOOK WHOS DOING COSPLAY PLANNING IN THE MIDDLE OF FINALS
fucked up math on Friday, failing to study for physics, hence I’m trying to reboot my brain by letting it run wild researching 19th century Prussian infantry stuff because apparently all my costumes for Halloween these past few years have been army/militia uniforms???
I thrifted all my shit and I want to try sewing something cause I still have leftover fabric from the scarves for that les mis grantire cosplay and I think the colors match
This was supposed to be a doodle
God
And don’t mind the Chinese it’s just me being confused all the way

Ok, planning the cosplay, the wild process of digging through the fabrics in my wardrobe, then through the sewing patterns I have, watching pictures online for inspiration, then putting all the pieces together to get the general idea of what I want to achieve is thrilling.
I'm excited to start this new project, a cosplay of Milva (Maria Barring) from the Witcher. At least for once my natural hair color will be perfect.

okay designed my second draft of the HEV suit. time to make hlvrai gordons minigun. I want to make it acrually spin too when u clench your fist. This is gonna be fun!
I think to make it compatible with the og base suit, i’m gonna make it slip right over the original gauntlet. put some magnet attatchments, think it’ll attatch through the foam, paint and sealant?
I also want to figure out how to put some fans into the chest piece to keep me cool.

Cosplay, phase one: Charted the underskirt on Stich fiddle. Very pleased with how it came out. This chart is built to my measurements as follows:
I only need to make enough underskirt to show on the front part of the dress. The entire skirt will start at my waist. My waist is 33". Halving that so the underskirt is only on the front part, that means this piece is 16-1/2" wide. I know I'm 40" from waist to end of my inseam, so that's the length.
I have decided I am using Knitpicks Palette for this cosplay. Based on the info on the website, it's 8 stiches per inch. This will be tapestry crochet, which makes it single crochet. So, I can take that 8 stitches per inch and use it for both width and length. So, this chart is built at 185 stitches wide (the extra stitches are just to cover my ass) and 320 stitches long.
Gonna do this on a C-hook, most likely. Which, yes, means the entire dress is gonna be on a C-hook, but I am THAT BITCH, so here we are.
Fun fact: I haven't made a chart in Stitch Fiddle in awhile, so I was delighted to learn that they have the entire color list for Palette available for charting. There are several other options as well. That's fucking cool.
Stitch Fiddle costs less than 30 bucks a year US, so even if I only use it twice a year, it's still cheap as hell. It's a great program to build charts. Huge recommend.

girl you do not have the money or spoons for those things

I currently got most of a Sunny cosplay together.
Only issue is that my natural hair color's blond, and I don't wanna use a wig. So instead I'm just gonna dye my hair black so that the cosplay will be a bit closer to my headcanon for them. Although, I might also wait until I buy some colored contacts too.

{-The Cosplay Planning Process-}
Pick a cosplay!
Sometimes choosing a cosplay is the most difficult part! Consider what you will feel comfortable wearing, The skills required to create the cosplay, and what gives you the passion to push it over the finish line!
Be realistic with your timeframe, budget, and skillset.
What does your character look like?
Find all reference material possible; artwork, photos, screenshots, videos, character models, and visual descriptions.
What does your character wear?
List all of the cosplay components; i.e. headpiece, wig, jacket, dress, boots.
How will YOU make it?
Write out ideas on how you plan on making/buying/modifying each item. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try new things. Don’t forget about pockets!
What will it be made from? What do you need?
Make a list of all the materials needed for each item.
(Consider weather you are aiming for accuracy of the aesthetic or narrative of the character. For example, if the character is poor they may not have access to expensive materials but garments may look to be made from silk. Some materials may also need to be able to defy gravity so pick something stiff to replicate that even if the character is described as wearing flowy fabrics.)
Don’t double up!
Make a master checklist of all the components needed.
Make sure you haven’t written the same thing twice - could be an expensive mistake!
Estimate!
How much time and money do you imagine this project will take?
Time to go shopping!
Purchase materials, don’t be scared to commit!
Keep your receipts!
Keep track of your budget!
List the cost of each material, even the costs of things you already have.
*This information will come in handy down the line if you want to start doing cosplay commissions and competitions.
Keep track of your time!
As you create the cosplay elements keep track of time spent.
*This will also come in handy for cosplay commissions and competitions.
Calculate and compare!
At the end calculate how much time and money you spent building the cosplay and compare it to your estimates! How far off were you? How will this help you next time?
Figure out your own custom hourly rate - generally;
(minimum wage + a few dollars for experience + a few more dollars if you have formal training = total hourly rate.)
multiply your hourly rate by hours spent to figure out your total cosplay cost.
*If you are figuring out what to charge for a commission make sure you add a little extra to your materials cost, think of this as a “finders fee.”

Hey, does anyone know of a good way to test paint colors in different lights without actually painting walls?
I say that, because I have an idea, but I can't execute it because a) it's for a future project, b) technically not my wall, and c) I want to see how it looks before I do anything major.
Also, on a similar note, does anyone know where I can get glow in the dark fabric paint? I have an idea for a Sundrop and Moondrop cosplay, and I wanna test certain elements before I fully commit.
Thank you!
