Little Cuphead theory I thought of- what if the object-headed characters in the Cuphead universe only grow INTO floating heads, like the one King Dice has?
(Also lowkey just an excuse to draw my interpretations of the sippy cups and teen delinquent KD lol)

Valentine’s day special
Since today is valentine’s day I decided to do a post about this one thing I noticed between King Dice and The Devil. The first scene with King Dice and the Devil is in Roll The Dice where King Dice calls the Devil to tell him he has Cuphead’s soul. One thing I find interesting is that in that scene the devil’s eyes are covered with cucumbers.
Tumblr media
The next scene with them is in the same episode when the devil fires king dice from his show. His face is obscured in shadows so you can’t see his facial expression.
Tumblr media
The in release the demons when King Dice first walks in the room once again you can’t really see how the devil reacts to his presence there. Only his demand for his second finest demons.
Then in down and out the first time we see the devil’s reaction to seeing king dice is his pupils dilating. Note that this is the first time we see his reaction and King Dice is not able to see him in return.
Tumblr media
Then when he confronts king dice personally, he’s once again obscured in shadows to the point where you can’t see his facial expression.
Tumblr media
Now I bring all of this up because, I have my own personal head canon/theory that this may represent how he wants to hide how he feels about king dice. I definitely think that the shadow obscuring his face might symbolize this. I also think that it’s interesting that as far as I could tell he never did that around any other character and thought it make a crazy theory about it for valentine’s day. Also don’t forget to #renewthecupheadshow by spreading the hashtag around and watching it on netflix.

I feel like most people don't take this seriously but I keep thinking about the fact Mr Chimes canonically doesn't have eyes daily and I think I might have a theory why and how it comes to be so, even though and especially when he's based on puppets/toys that have eyeballs that he technically should have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This might be more casino related and a little off but I still want to share this: We all know Mr Chimes is a toy and not actually alive, which also goes for, for example, Dr. Kahl's robot. The robot is not alive and doesn't have a soul to sell, that's why, once the deal was made, it was Kahl's soul being involved. It was the doctor's soul that would land in the Devil's hands afterwards, however, not his robot's. Chimes is a cymbal-banging toy and he's most likely to not being able to own a spirit either, that's what makes me think: what if, in order to make a deal (whatever it's supposed to be about) with the Devil he needed to give away something else instead of his soul, perhaps, in fact, HIS OWN EYES?? (Or maybe promise to work at the casino forever as well?)
It would make sense since the Devil has his own collection of eyes. Most belong to demons but who knows... maybe he also keeps Chimes' eyes there?
Tumblr media
I doubt anyone would want to read this and I'm sorry this turned out so long but maybe it makes a little sense in some kind of way.🙏

Devil Theory
This is an idea I've had for a while now about the inhabitants of hell. How hell became the way it is. And why stickler looks different from the imps. Remember those really cool tapestry that the devil has in his throne room?
Tumblr media
Well, my theory is these tapestries are meant to represent how the devil became king of hell and what happened to the demons before his reign and how hell became the way it did. I think what happened after he fell from heaven he went on a rampage destroying all of the demons that lived in hell except for very few that managed to survive. As seen in the left and right tapestry the devil's surroundings are very dimly lit and not on fire as we see hell in the present. I think those two represent how early hell looked before the devil took over. And the middle one represents the end of his rampage and how he was starting to make hell to his liking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something I noticed about these tapestries is the demons look nothing like the imps we see i the present.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These demons have their own unique features and are very different from the imps that we've seen in the show. They are also being eaten, tortured, and burned alive from the devil. My theory is that after he fell the devil went on a rampage killing most of the demon population around him. And after his rampage was over, he decided to repopulate hell by creating imps in his own image.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mostly came up with this theory because, I thought it was cool. I also thought it would kind of explain why the imps look like the devil and why they're the only demons besides stickler and the finest demons and the guard demons look different. I also think stickler and those others look different cause they are some of the only "real" demons left. Further evidence of this is dd confirmed stickler isn't an imp.

So y’all remember mugman reading the romance book and self inserting himself In it with Cala, ( first 2 pictures) and now for his Christmas gift he’s getting the sequel and the presumptive third one, ( third picture ) the ice cream muffin dude talks abt how mugbeard dies in the end of the book, what if that’s how the crew feels about calamug and how it wouldn’t work out bc Cala is a siren and would eat mugman either way it goes, plus Cala already mentioned her not being interested in relationships so… ( aroace Cala confirmed?! /hj ) also ( im so bias in this next part help ) since mugbeard dies in the end of the first book (?) we see a broken heart on the cover in the sequel(?) it’s clear mugbeard is heartbroken after his love ate and killed him, but there is another book, how is our main protagonist mugbeard still having a book franchise, I say one of theee things, either A the narrator narrates another character, we can see in chapter 8 ”the rendezvous” that the story is narrated, so when mugbeard dies another character will be focused on, B these books are entirely references, love on the high seas was a musical in the 1940s and love’s turbulent tides was a 1940s novel, which the book titles being references would make alot of sense, or C, my fan theory ( this is the somewhat bias part ) that the second book is a narration of mugbeards heartbroken ghost and possibly going after a new love interest, we see in the first novel, that it symbolizes mugman and calas “relationship” so what if in the second novel it’s about mugbeards ghost and hun finding a new love in the tides that could symbolize mugman and ms chalice’s relationship. ( BIAS MF ) But who knows :))

The DLC and Selfishness
I just realized something.
The DLC tells you something about Cuphead and Mugman as characters (and also Chalice too) because of how it's set up
The base game is all about self-preservation.
The DLC is about selflessness.
Think about it. All the bosses in the DLC are selfish. They're all criminals who hoard the ingredients for themselves for unknown reasons. This isn't clearer than with Esther, considering she has a vacuum which sucks up goods and valuables.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh yeah and i guess saltbaker too
It's a stark contrast. Chalice's goal is, inherently, a selfish one, even if not nearly to the extreme the other bosses or especially Saltbaker's are. She wants herself to be alive again, and needs the brothers to help her. However, where Saltbaker's selfishness got the better of him, Chalice is able to overcome it by not accepting the Wondertart at all, even if it couldn't be baked.
Tumblr media
She could have chosen to let Saltbaker have one of the brothers, people who she barely knows, but she doesn't.
Or, if you look at it with her in the jar, it still works. Ultimately, she just has to accept that having the Wondertart "just ain't worth it."
With Cuphead and Mugman, the time they express it- and by "they" I specifically mean Cuphead- is in the base game. The base game is them specifically making up for that mistake, and the DLC is spent showing how selfless they truly are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They get no real reward for helping Chalice. They aren't getting the cosmic powers of the Wondertart. But, they do it anyway since they care about her.
I think this is why Saltbaker is such a good endgame villain. Whereas Cuphead is selfless (save for that one time), he's selfish and takes what he wants. Honestly, Saltbaker could parallel the bad ending, too. If Cuphead were to continue to be selfish, he'd end up similarly.
Tumblr media
Like. If Cuphead DID continue to be selfish after the book closes on the base game... could he have ended up like Saltbaker? Not that extreme, but somewhere on that spectrum?
Maybe the base game was a good thing, after all. Without it, he may not have learned that lesson.
And, maybe that explains why Chalice is suddenly there, too. After all, as far as we know, she never owed her soul. So, if it was actually selfishness driving the DLC, it makes sense she'd appear in the bad ending, too...

OK, so this little exchange is making me go into theory/speculation mode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if this joke can be taken seriously for a second, then that means that when Cuphead eventually dies, (whenever that is), he's ending up in Hell. Like, no matter what.
So with this in mind, in theory, doesn't this mean that the devil can just leave Cuphead alone and just wait for him to die?
Or if we want to go to a slightly darker place, can the devil just kill him? Like maybe there'd be an episode where he comes up with various schemes to kill Cuphead? (Most likely this won't happen, but it's fun to entertain the idea)
Or is there a rule against that?
There has been quite a few rules established.
Tumblr media
This kinda also raises the question of what will happen to them if one of them dies or if both of them die?
Will cuphead go to hell/the underworld, but Mugman goes... somewhere else? Will they end up in the same place?
I mean, if there's a heaven maybe he's going there. Or if not, ghosts exist, maybe Mugman will turn into a ghost?
(Also it is kinda vague if the devil pointing up was referring to Cuphead going to heaven or simply becoming a ghost and staying in Inkwell Isles/Earth)
Essentially, will they be separated in the afterlife?
Maybe a future episode will address this and Cuphead and Mugman start to think of where they'd end up when they die only to realize that Cuphead will end up where the Devil is because of his choices and behavior.
Maybe he'd try to be a better person so he doesn't end up in hell/the underworld and spending an eternity with the devil. Another thing that Cuphead willl be concerned about is being with his brother in the afterlife.
Like if this happens it'd play out like a reverse of this scene in Casino Cups but not as dark yet still serious.
Tumblr media
Maybe it’d also take a bit of a comedic tone as Cuphead tries to do good things to avoid going to the underworld (it’s still a cartoon after all).
I kind of already have a few ideas for lines for Cuphead to say like:
“I’ve already been to the underworld once, and I’m not going back again”
“Besides, I ain't too worried about it, It’s not like I’m constantly thinking of what will happen when I eventually end up down there with the devil for... all eternity...”
“I don’t know where I’ll end up Mugsy, but wherever I go, I don’t want to spend an eternity away from you, we’re brothers, we can’t be separated, right?”
Like I know that this is somewhat touchy and dark territory, but if we can get this:
Tumblr media
We could get a few scenes about this (probably).
I realize that this is a really long post about a 10 second joke, but still, I just wanted to get my thoughts and speculation out there.
What do all of you think?

Bonus:

Basically if chalice never escaped the orphanage. Cuphead falls for her and just keeps going to visit her even as the penguin nuns constantly kick him out.

You know I just realized something today King Dice has escaped death in almost all of his appearances in season 1.
 1. Is when instead of killing him the devil instead just takes his show away. Which is incredibly lucky considering how the devil usually just shoots anything that annoys him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Is when in Release the Demons he shows up late when the devil incinerates his first finest demons. And when the devil incinerates his second finest demons henchman saves him by pulling him behind a rock.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Lastly in Down and Out when the devil and king dice reunite the devil intends to destroy him like he promised in release the demons but before doing so Dice reveals his plan about getting cuphead's soul and after he fails the devil rehires him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only time he appears and doesn't almost face death is in the devil and miss chalice. And in all of his appearances it seems he survived based on sheer luck. I wonder if at some point maybe his luck will run out?  Just a thought. I mean it’s a very out there theory but I love coming up with those so enjoy my madness.

the parallels between king dice and ms chalice in the cuphead show (+ a bonus mini theory)
okay. this is me drawing a line of similarity between my two faves... but like. im not the only one who noticed this right.
also SPOILERS FOR ALL SEASONS!! Proceed with caution!
-
FIRST!
The most obvious - the charm, the razzle dazzle. They're dancers, performers at heart. They sing to get what they want.
And, okay, secret theory here - I think they have inherent magic? Like even with the deal with the devil, Chalice probably had magic before then. Think of them as sirens, if you will.
The way the cup bros struggle to get past security but Chalice so easily slips by... and, okay, we haven't seen MUCH of how King Dice uses this power, if it even exists in the first place, but in "down & out" the way Dice sings and attracts everyone nearby, definitely has me thinking that if this theory is correct - dice has magic too.
The difference between them is that Chalice knows. Even if she doesn't think its actual magic, she uses it well and manipulates it to her benefit. King Dice probably doesn't - he thinks he's just a good performer.
that leads me too...
-
SECOND!
the hard times they've had.
Listen. For all we know, Chalice is homeless. We never see her house, and when we see her escape the orphanage, she isn't shown to get one. Let alone an apartment.
Sure, she makes the best of it. Doing a darn good job at it, I'd say. But she's still homeless.
Just like Dice!
If my theory is true, Dice probably would've been very good at charming people like Chalice does - but he didn't know.
Thats besides the point - they both have lows. Chalice was the orphanage, and Dice was being dropped by Devil.
now, every character has lows. So let me expand!
-
THIRD!
They both narrate an episode.
In "Down & Out" and "Dance with Danger", KD and Chalice narrate at least some of the episode respectively.
I'm pretty sure this is unique just to them? While I haven't rewatched the entire series recently, just a few choice episodes, it seems these are the only episodes with any narration at all. (Besides the intro, of course.)
What's important - these characters aren't cup and mugs. Sure, they're recurring, but the only 'main' characters are the cup bros! To have an episode narrated at all, especially by a supporting main cast, is really interesting to me.
-
FOURTH!
This is two points combined into one really, because they're so minor - They are both associated with the devil somewhat, & They are both called "Number One".
Chalice and her deal, of course, and King Dice being - well - King Dice. You've seen the fandom.
This is where they diverge, Chalice dreading The Devil, and King Dice... well, it's weird, but it's generally positive.
(And, side note, the only time the Devil is truly 'scary' to me is in "Roll the Dice" where Devil threatens King Dice, and "Dance with Danger" where he makes the deal with Chalice. If he were that terrifying all the time, the show would be MUCH shorter.)
And the "number one" thing - They both call themselves Number One. Chalice in "Dance with Danger", where during her narration calls her that a good few times, and Dice in... almost every ep he's in.
The thing is, Dice is the only one others call "Number One." Devil often refers to him that way in response to Dice himself saying it, but in "Down & Out" cuphead and mugman call him something like "the number one star in showbiz?" or something like that. While it isnt just Number One, I think it counts.
Chalice on the other hand doesn't get called by it from anyone but herself.
-
Finally, we're done ... sorry for referencing the same few episodes over and over again, lol. take a shot every time i reference down & out lol! I just really love them. I hope you liked this!
