dazai and flirting
NSFW Minors do not interact. Mention of suicide ( It's dazai ) And this is just an Observation of how dazai flirts with women, why and when.
It's your girl Mina Posting I'm nervous
•I know it seems silly But when dazai flirts most of the time and what we have seen so far, is that he always wants something from the women he flirts with.
• It is either related to go and Do a double suicide with him or that he Plans something ahead already.
•for example when higuchi was there for the first time, he flirted because he noticed there was something wrong and decided to spy on her. And he was right.
• or with the nurse, I know there is a big discussion how he and the nurse must have had Sex but I think he was A to injured to do it ( without him being hurted ) and B it didn't (at least for me) came across like they did it lol.
•LMAO he always becomes a Poet when he flirts LOL.
• He ALWAYS makes poems.
• dazai knows how to Deal with women.
• he is skilled in flirting lets not forget that he does has one night stands (comformed by chuuya)
• but I do believe that he respects women.
• he never flirts or ask for a double suicide with yosano or any of the women in his work place, I think it Shows how much he respects them.
• (I'm also not saying he dosen't respect women whom he ask to take there lifes with him btw)
•( if he would offer ME a double suicide bye guys i would have said yes)
• but we are all like this that we have extra respect for some and not for some others.
• if however he ask a women to make a double suicide with him and they turn him down he dosen't pressure him. He might be like " but a double suicide dosen't work alone Belladonna " but let go after that. ( as we saw with him and the waitress lol)
• I also think he notice If a women is not into him in that way he'll not pressure her or try to Manipulate her into doing smt she Dosen't want to.
•I think he notice right away if she is into him or not.
• so like he walkes into a Bar and sees how a women looks at him he knows.
•when he Talks to her he knows if she really wants to or not.
• i think he is the typ of guy who likes someone who really wants to sleep with him just like how he wants to sleep with them.
•I think if he sees a women being harrased he probaly do something. He is not an ass just a big tease who likes to annoy people.
•i also don't think he would try his shoot to them after helping them ( he isn't an idiot as we all know he is super smart)
• i think he has a normal Sex drive.
•now lets go to the suicidal part.
• I think we all overlook how it is very selfish and greedy from him to want a women to take her life with him.
•he is basiclly asking to throw her life away for him and her future with that. I think if she changed her mind he be like : what serious ?
• I think he would let a big shign pass his mouth and be like : well It's your choice after all...
•tbh I think he, deep down, he know he can't die bc he promised oda that he will do something that will help people around him.
•I think dazai has a big disconnetion to himself, aka his feelings and the World and humans in generell.
•I think thats why he dosen't see a good point in living cuz he is so disconnected from the World and he Dosen't understand why or perhaps Dosen't even know.
• not to mention the mafia really messed with him and his moralitys. I know he himself is already messed up but imagine he grew up in the ADA like ranpo.
•I'm quit sure he would have been a bit different then.
• Perhaps deep down he dosen't wants to Die but he sees this as the only chance to something better. To be free from all this pain he dosen't even get.
• Dazai dosen't realize that the people he cares for also care for him equally.
• but have you noticed whenever he tried to end his life it was bc he Planed smt ahead ALL THE TIME ( ok maybe almost all the time)
• idk if it was intentional but when he jumped into that Lake he met Tiger boy remembere ?
• Or how he was there durning the investigation of the death of that women where he told Tiger boy that ranpo dosen't has an ability acually.
• now this was intensional, when he, like I said, ask higuchi to kill hersef with him.
• or why he was so overly friendly with Nobuko Sasaki.
(I read that sasaki was more dangerous in the manga )
• He KNEW there was smt wrong
• Poor kunikida tho...

Ok so now that I've spent some time thinking about the whole "Chuuya was never a vampire" twist, I... still don't like it. For many reasons.
Here's my explanation; if you want to read it, please do. I strive to be fair. I want to wait for the manga release before making a verdict on whether it's bad writing or not, and I also want to see the start of next arc to see where they're going with all this.
If you don't want to read it, and you're having fun with the twist (it is funny. I will admit that much), then skip this and keep having fun! I don't want to ruin anyone's enjoyment.
First of all. It makes no sense. There are things that just do not add up. There was never an indication this was a possibility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bro. Did you put on costume makeup for the texture under your eyes? Did it wash off after nearly getting drowned and you had to frantically reapply it behind Fyodor's back and that's why we couldn't see your face for several chapters. Did you take it off again for your dramatic reveal here at the end? I demand smeared undereye makeup Chuuya in the manga when it releases hbfsdjhbfv
Ok this was more a joke. But here's what really irks me.
Tumblr media
From what I can recall, this is. True. He needs to have made contact to manipulate gravity. It's also re-established in this very arc.
Great. So how the fuck did he slow the elevator? He was with Fyodor in a separate room! This makes no sense. Did he leave to stop the elevator and Fyodor was like "oh chill. ok come back soon"??? What?!
Here's another thing I want to address:
Tumblr media
@ticklinglady I had this same question. However, on thinking on it again, I do have an answer that makes sense - they had to buy time for Sigma to use his ability on Fyodor, to gain knowledge on him about what he knows, and what his ability is. <-I feel confident in saying this is going to be important later. Sigma will still have a role to play and we will find out more about Fyodor!
Alright. Moving on to the themes, and why this also doesn't work (at least for me).
The theme in this arc is very much to do with the contrast between trust vs control. This is Fyodor's failing when it came to Dazai, and it is established very early on as the major contrast between them, in the Sky Casino arc. The vampires, though it seemed silly and random, fit nicely into that theming. And the conclusion, where Dazai showed extreme faith in Sigma and the Agency members (and what an interesting contrast that is; to have someone show faith in ordinary humans when his foil is a man who has faith in god but not humanity), that fits into that theming also. Ok, so this was an extension of that right? Showing faith in Chuuya, as always.
Yeah, no. I want to direct your attention back to this here.
Tumblr media
This line is the one that had everyone going "oh man skk is going to fuck you up for that". I made an entire analysis back when this chapter first came out about the themes that we saw, and Fyodor's utter devaluing of the effectiveness of people beyond just their skills and abilities (it's here, if you're curious). This is why I suspected that, since Dazai and Fyodor are intellectually matched, it would have to be Sigma and Chuuya to catch Fyodor off guard - because he only values what people can do, not who they are.
Well, we got a little with Sigma, before Fyodor took control of the situation again. (Rip buddy.) Sigma's tenacity and unwillingness to fall for Fyodor's manipulating him away from helping the Agency was based off his personal choice and free will. He managed to shoot him! Fyodor was reduced to a cheap trick to get close enough to stab him! There was a certain level of payoff.
But Chuuya? I want you to think for a second. What did he actually do? Not a single part of this was Chuuya's idea. It was Mori's - he was at the very least sent undercover under orders, if not sent to Meursault under orders. He didn't even glue his own fangs in apparently. Now let's go over what he did. Why was it so necessary that it be Chuuya there? Well, obviously because gravity manipulation was needed to slow the elevator and the bullet. Oh... hm. So. His ability. Was what was needed, huh?
But it was necessary for it to be Chuuya because of the bond between him and Dazai, right? Oh. Wait. So, Chuuya's personality and goals don't matter - only his ability to read Dazai.
This twist makes it so Chuuya as a person doesn't actually throw a wrench into Fyodor's plans at all. All that matters is that he is Mori's executive and Dazai's partner. I guess he was "utilized" after all. I thought, with his characterization in Fifteen and Stormbringer, that we were moving away from this characterization of Chuuya only by his bond with Dazai. Do you want to scream.
You might be saying, okay, but at the very least it showed the depths of Double Black's bond! ...did it? Not really, at least not to me. The only impressive part of any of this was Mori's preparedness. This was barely an skk plan. It was a Mori plan. Double Black placing their lives in each other's hands is a Tuesday for them. This is nothing we didn't already know. And truthfully, it goes nowhere near the level of sheer trust we saw in Dead Apple. Mori sent Chuuya in sure, but it was only after everything settled down that he realized that Mori suspected Dazai would need help. Before that point, it seemed everyone thought Dazai was dead except Chuuya. Chuuya chose to jump out of that plane. Chuuya chose to risk his life. It showcased his personality, his free agency, and the level of trust they had far, far better. And it was emotionally satisfying! Dazai was extremely grateful that his trust paid off! Chuuya was somewhat conscious during Corruption, enough to weaken his own punch and shout Dazai's name! Dazai prevented Chuuya from having his ability be separated from him by the fog! They are an unbeatable team... but they were still left exhausted, and had to rely only on each other. How does what happened in this latest episode compare to that in a way that makes me believe they've actually outmaneuvered Fyodor?
Listen. I'll take twists that don't really have a great build up if they further the themes or character development, or it just makes for good drama. There's an interesting pay off, at least, so I say "okay, okay. Could've been done better, but I'll let it slide for the intrigue." But here? Nothing. It was boring. Are you bored.
Anime watchers were probably more fine with it. Maybe it was a little disappointing, but oh well. But manga readers have been having this plot dragged out for years. A lot of said fans (including myself) were excited to see Chuuya become main series relevant and receive present day development - and it seemed like we were going to get that with the recent publication of not one, but two Chuuya backstory novels, and the drama of this arc pitting Dazai and Chuuya against each other. Instead, this did absolutely nothing of interest for his character. Why was he even here?
Which brings me to the last point, which is the characterization.
Going back and re-reading this entire arc now, it becomes one big stage performance. Ok, fine, it's a little funny. But now there's hardly anything of value to these interactions. The only ones that actually matter are Fyodor and Sigma, and Fyodor and Nikolai. All that buildup to drama between Double Black, to another incredible display of trust, to something shifting and changing from the status quo... all that build up, and nothing has changed for Chuuya, or for Double Black. The show of trust wasn't even that dramatic really. Are you bored still.
This also weakens Fyodor's character to me. Fyodor witnessed their incredible show of trust in Dead Apple. I assumed he was prepared for skk-typical bullshittery, you know, being a genius on par if not greater than Dazai. You're telling me he was so overconfident he completely missed that Chuuya wasn't a vampire? Really? Fyodor really had nothing in place that would verify whether the vampires were actually under control? He wasn't constantly checking for a plan? It really was just red eyes and fangs, and he thought that was fine? That's it? Ok.
Truthfully, I was kind of :| about several of the preceding twists in the Meursault arc, particularly the dagger Fyodor pulled out when he started acting to Sigma, and the door railing being preemptively crushed by Chuuya before the drowning started. The dagger was actually ornate in the manga, which raised several questions - it couldn't have come from a guard. It made me think there was more to that interaction than just Fyodor pretends to have a split personality and that there was actually something to that knife. Well, it was made to be a regular knife in the anime, so I guess theorizing across those lines are dashed.
What bothered me the most though was the crumpling of the rail to stop the door from completely closing. There was no indication of this in the manga. None. No one could've predicted that - because it's stupid. The water filled so fast it couldn't get out of the crack in the door, even though it was huge??? Dazai was in the control room - you're telling me that there was no security camera focused on the door??? You know, where you would position a security camera??? It was dumb to me, but I was willing to roll my eyes and move on because I was expecting a good payoff to all this, and well, it was funny.
But now, the whole arc is one extended joke skk were playing on Fyodor. And you're telling me that's how our major antagonist goes out? Our major antagonist of several arcs? Be for fucking real.
And depending on when Dazai figured it out, it may even cheapen earlier scenes. If he found out after the elevator slowed like people have been theorizing, I could accept that. That's fine. But I need people to recall: in the actual episode he states "it was all an act".
Is Dazai probably lying to save face? Sure. But as of this moment we actually have no evidence it wasn't an act from the beginning. Remember that Ango was communicating the whole time with Dazai. Remember that Mori was involved and helped Tanizaki and Kenji get to safety. It's entirely possible it was all premeditated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One last suggestion: the plan name was "Good-bye" as suggested earlier. This means that even if Dazai didn't know from the beginning, he knew by the time of his speech to Chuuya as he was drowning.
This means that his whole scheme with Sigma was not an extremely dangerous, life-risking play on his part at all (@daz4i has gone to explain why this sacrificialism isn't good for a suicidal character, which I recommend reading, but nonetheless it was still notable characterization for Dazai). And what about this?
Tumblr media
Even his own flashbacks and memories were, what? A lie? A performance? For whom? Not for Fyodor, that's for sure.
For us. The readers. For the people who are invested in these two and their dynamic. For the people who wanted development between them, because there are actually issues there that have not been resolved. People wanted Dazai to show real concern. Chuuya is still bitter, even if Dazai thinks everything is fine and the same since he left. There was a tease that we're going to get how Chuuya felt when Dazai left the Mafia at some point in the future. People were making angsty art and writing and getting really excited because all the prior interactions had appeared to be set up for the payoff of this drama.
Tumblr media
We get an introduction in the dungeon. We reveal their partnership and fearsome reputation during the Lovecraft fight. They perform flawlessly in Dead Apple. Throughout all this, they need no communication. They read each other and respond in tandem, always... but there's still an underlying tension in the way they do not talk to each other. I, and many others, had thought the prison escape arc was the breaking point for some development, since their prior appearances were all meant to establish them as a team, and this arc dealt heavily with the breaking of established things.
But no. Deus ex skk is perfect. They have no issues or flaws. Do you want to scream again.
Anyways. I recognize I'm probably just very disappointed right now and by tomorrow, I probably won't care anymore and will just roll with it. I think I was extra disappointed because while I tempered my expectations for, say, Yosano and Kyouka's involvement (sigh...), I fully expected skk would be handled well, being the fandom faves and where the money is at, so I guess I took the disappointment that much harder.
However, I'm eager to see how the manga tackles the ending, and if we will get any extra cues or better pacing there that may make me not quite so bitter. If it's any consolation, I do think we'll be getting Chuuya focus at some point in a future arc, and while I do think Fyodor is dead, I doubt he will have stopped haunting the narrative. He'll be back in some capacity. I'm pretty certain he's still the mastermind.
And I'm curious about the next arc and what's happening there. Maybe some things will be revealed later that will help smooth out the flaws here.

Don't be so annoyed, love!
Tumblr media
Summary: He's so annoying sometimes but it's ok because you love him 😭 (HC w/ Dazai, Kunikida, Ranpo)
Genre: Crack, fluff, lowkey suggestive themes
Warnings: 🗿 we ignoring the red flags bc we can. also mentions of farting bc dazai 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
A/N: u cant tell me that they wouldnt do any of these things ok 💀also kunikida's got a small drabble out of nowhere but im always wildin when it comes to him 😭😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu
Tumblr media
u cant tell me that as soon as hes rly comfortable in ur relationship that he WOULD NOT be ashamed of just farting outta nowhere honestly 💀
Like yall r just chilling on the couch, watching smth and he just lets it all out bc why should he hold himself back 🗿
Hes at home 🗿
But bro's lucky he doesnt smell but 🗿🗿🗿🗿 wheres the warning from him
u give him the side eye and hes like "What? Are you perhaps ashamed of human nature, bella?" like ok we'll leave him alone but he ruined the emotional moment of the movie yall were watching 😭😭😭
Is also the type to prob leave his socks and clothes lying around
It got better over time but he still sometimes does it bc old habits die hard i guess 🧍
once got so bad you just collected all of his clothes and put them infront of the door so he'd have no choice but to pick all of that up and do it himself 💀
would try to talk his way out of it in the beginning but also felt kinda bad after the relationship got more and more serious
So now hes a good bf/ husband and does it himself 🤩 (with the occasional sock under the couch 💀)
drinking habits would take a bit longer to be fully gone, he'd learn to regulate it over time
He's learned to warn you tho when he thinks that a rly shitty day might hit him bc work and more
sometimes you take the day off and do something together to take his mind off of it
Sometimes you're at work and a "im home" text without hearts will come and you know whats wrong
would feel more comfortable over time letting you take care of him
will definitely show you his appreciation for you the next days in one way or the other 🤩💅
talking about living together, yall would often have to sit down to talk about his spendings bc our man cant save for ANYTHING
Used to often come home with little things like "Look, this reminded me of you!" and it's a plushie of a cat or something
Started off cute and small but got dramatic like him really fast
ngl he came home with a expensive necklace u liked when the both of u went shopping but u didnt buy it bc.. she expensive...
like he was charming as always with his "Tada! Guess what I've got you?~ 😋" ".... Not the necklace...? 😧" "🤩 How did you guess that right, bella??" "😨😨"
THIS man right here wouldnt even hesitate to just right out fking steal shit for you if u want it bc thats how much Power u got over him he'd never admit that tho sksks... OK maybe in bed...
he'd def either blackmail or bribe chuuya into helping him with stealing
probably even has access to his bank account and you'd only realize that when he'd stand infront of your door, asking where that "f*cking b*stard" is
you'd legit have to mediate their convo or else the whole building you live in would be gone immediately skks 💀
Chuuya likes u so he wouldnt make yall pay for it bc he knows that dazai's nearly broke 24/7 and u dont deserve to pay for his fault 💅
it would be enough to destroy his pride to make him obey chuuya for like 2 weeks or sum cue evil cackling from said red head
queen of Gaslightining nr. 1 😭 sometimes its for the dumbest arguments tho like why its okay to smack your lips while eating 😭
"I don't know it's just really noisy and kinda annoying for me?" "But Bella, that shows just how tasty your food is or are going to deny that fact and say that I should not show my appreciation for it? What if for me personally it's a sign of a good meal?" "Yeah but doesnt need to be that for me. Also you can show your appreciation for it in other ways like just simply saying its delicious?"
"But actions speak louder than words, my love." "YEAH, well then what do you want then???"
Its just a whole shit show and would (lmao it WILL) end in him giving you just shameless bedroom eyes and well you know whats gonna be after dinner lmaooo 🤡😭
Also also i do believe that hes not the best cook at first but hes a real fast learner so it prob would only take him a week of consuming cooking videos and reading books and BOOM
"Samu, is this a 3 course meal you're cooking because that's a LOT of ingredients in the kitchen." "Sssh just sit down, wash yourself up and enjoy the evening, my love! I'll call you when I'm done 💕"
Manages to somehow still give you some snacks and drinks in between the cooking 😭 with some sneaked in kisses on your shoulder or lips 😏
If you go and hug him from behind, he'll be MELTING
Like nuzzling your face into his back while wrapping your arms around his torso, you feel the slight rumble in his chest as he chuckles at your cute action 😭
"If you want to eat something then you should take a break from being so cute, you know? Don't want the food to go bad from maybe getting a bit distracted if you stay here for a bit longer." "Ew, are you implying you'd start something infront of our food??"
"... Well, I can just have a whole meal by myself but you'd be left hungry so it's your choice 😋"
🗿 the way he doesnt need long to be turned on is alwaya amazing to u but thats just how whipped he is and bro is a whole snack himself so WHOS complaining 😋💅
food's is guaranteed to taste heavenly but if he knows youve got time, then he'd make excuses to taste your cooking like
"Samu, it's been a while since I've gotten to taste your cooking." "Aww, was it that delicious for you? Hmm but I actually prefer your cooking!"
Time for some cooking and baking lessons together, eoow 💅 with the occasional make out session because the sauce found it's way on your lips and he just had to clean it up with his 😭😋
honestly despite all of some of the difficulties, dazai would never fail in making you feel loved in his own way even tho u gotta peel back some layers 🗿
At the end of the day, his bear hugs and many kisses are smth u love to come back home to after work
also doesnt say it but would def be a house husband for u 🤩 with the occasional "whoops gotta go and do smth quick" text and he comes home at like midnight skks bc the agency needs his cute ass 😋 but dw dinner's ready and house chores have been done so enjoy ur evening after work, zurlie 💅
dont kill me for this but id give him a 7.5/10 😭
Obsessed with him and i love him but it would prob be really really exhausting to get him to FULLY trust you and its honestly understandable
Also he kinda makes me feel like i'd have to walk on eggshells around him because you often dont really know what hes thinking 😭😭
could smile at u while thinking "why u so ugly" 😭😭
also bro is so smooth, its scary like he'd prob make us forget immediately that hes trying to find out everything about us(why he sounding like a stalker 😨😨 wouldnt want him to be MY stalker 😨😨 or would I?? 🤩) MY DELULU BRAIN 👹
Tumblr media
Doppo Kunikida
Tumblr media
😨 Cleaning maniac
personification of the verse "I can COOk, i can CLEAN" (i know its "dont" instead of can but we all know hes like perfect house husband material... maybe a bit too perfect 💀💀💀👹)
If u forgot a cup on the dinner table, he'd legit take the cup, put it in ur hand and be like "why did u leave it there if u r not using it"
WILL def rant about why u shouldnt do it
Honestly huge nagging mom vibes 💀💀
At the beginning of moving in together, he'd just clean everything without a word whatsoever
Like you wanna help around the house too? NUH UH, he already finished everything up.
Vaccuming the house? Done
Swiping? Lmao be sure to not arrive at home after work around that time bc u gotta stand at the door and WAIT until the floor is dried 💀😭
Dishes have been done like at 5 in the fucking morning 💀👹
Bro thankfully doesn't wash clothes that often (gotta be careful of the water bill 😭) but there r days where he legit throws his clothes nearly everyday bc the worse the mission the more blood yk 🗿🗿
U had to legit drag his ass to the couch to talk to him bc he gonn be deep clean the house if someone doesnt stop him
"Kuni, you literally don't need to do EVERYTHING by yourself! I'm also here to help and frankly, it feels like you're my maid sometimes 😞" " Don't worry. Everything fits perfectly in my time plan and since you sometimes work overtime, it's better if I do a bit more of it."
... "🗿 You are legit saving this city from being destroyed so often and I just sit in the office, bro 🤡" "I understand your argument but I have seen the way you look tired so often so let me take a bit of your burden"
He knows how to make us go "🥺"
The argument prob went on for an hour until yall settled on making a plan on who does what on which days and if someone's gotta work overtime or sum then the other takes a bit of it over and so on
So in the end its alrighty
Groceries and so on are never a problem except it sometiems turns out like going shopping with your mom because...
"Omg Kuni, look!!" *holds up cute decoration* "We could put this on our dinner table! Isn't it cute 🥺??"
Bro just takes it from you and looks at the price. Legit gives you the 🤨 look
"That's 937,32 Yen (around 6€) 🤨🤨. For a tiny statue of a dog? We could find it somewhere way cheaper." "🥺 But it's a limited edition and it reminds me of you bc its got the same fur color 🥺. It's even got ur glasses on 🥺"
Bro will say no but the day after you spot the dog on the table 🤡
Yall lying in bed together and cuddle so give him a peck on the lips while killing him with your cute ass smile (U MURDERER 🗿🗿)
"What was that for?" "Hmmm, well I just noticed that said statue magically appeared on our table. You think it was a cute long haired fairy with glasses and a grumpy look 😋? "
He tries really hard to deadpan at you but the corner of his lips still tug upwards as he pinches your nose
"Well, sometimes its not so bad to buy a little extra, I guess."
If theres a market nearby with some really good deals then you'd either be dragged together with him or he'd come home after work with tons of bags
Always surprises you in how good he is at negotiating about the price
Sometimes you gotta stop him from arguing with some of the shop keepers because some decided to sell some items way too overpriced 🗿🗿🗿
you once found him stay up all night researching about reasonable prices for veggies... 😨
and cue to yall standing in the morning infront of said shop keeper getting absolutely destroyed in an argument by your man.. 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨
Well guess who even got some extra free stufd because kuni terrified the shit out of him 😋
"Thank you for your hard work in harvesting and selling us these delicious vegetables. My wife is quite a fan of them." Your husband said as he put the money into the shop keepers shaky hands, face red in embarassement as he squeezed out a "It's nothing." between his teeth. His face paled at the words "We'll see each other next Monday. Until then have a great week." leaving your man's mouth as he gave him a friendly smile before taking your hand and going to the next stall, only for you to sheepishly wave goodbye to the shop keeper before going with your husband.
"Well, you gave him quite the scare back there." You said as you felt him squeeze your hand a bit tighter, the bustling of the array of people only increasing by minutes. "Someone had to correct his ways. It would help his sales but only if he's willing to take that advice seriously." he simply answered as he looked at the contents of the bag, counting the ingredients left to purchase.
"Well atleast we got ourselves more than we needed so we can go home and call it a day." "Who are you?" Chuckling at your surprised face out of the corner of his eyes, he continued to make his way towards the end of the market, to finally reach your car.
"I thought over your words and I do believe it would be nice to" laze around together "for once in a while. Everything in the house has already been done, so maybe we could try out that one series you've been talking about. The reviews seem to be quite positive about it."
He just lets a breathy laugh escape his lips at your squeal while you begin to rant on why its gonna be so good watching it and
UUUUGGHHGH 😭😭😭😭 GIVE ME KUNIKIDAAAAAAAGHHHHHH 😭😭😭🤡🤡👹👹👹
honestly there are like no real red flags like his red flags are disguised green flags and yall can legit work through it easily
The only thing would be his tendency to overwork himself and it could lead to an argument but never a real fight because hes pretty easy to reason with
Like even when hes stubborn, he'll STILL listen to your words because the many good things about him that he'd always make sure to take your words seriously 🗿🗿
which sometimes makes it tempting to tease him bc we can lowkey understand why dazai easily tells him the most outrageous shit and your man just casually writes it down in his notebook 😭
"That damn idiot managed to fool me again by telling me that aliens have been among us (AMOGUS 👹) and that the goverment has been hiding it from us for decades." "I thought you already knew about that tho?"
"What" "What?"
"Wait so they're real?"
Cue to him showing him a video (that dazai sent to you a week ago just for this moment 😭)
Lmao dont tease him too much tho but dw, he cant stay mad at you at all lmao 😋💅
Honestly a 8.5/10 bc his nagging scares me 💀😭
Tumblr media
Edogawa Ranpo
Tumblr media
"Greatest Detective" more like "Queen of Gaslightining" 👹👹
Everyone knows hes way too obsessed with sweets but how the hell is his teeth actually still existing 🗿🗿
ngl i believe fukuzawa would prob sometimes just randomly ask him if he brushed his teeth bc he lowkey lowkey raised him ok 🤡
Ranpo is all nice like "yup, i did." but when u ask him, hes a whole b*tch about it
"Hah??? Why would you ask me that?? Do you really believe that I'd be so dumb to forget about brushing my teeth? If i can solve the most difficult cases then why would you assume that brushing my teeth might something that I'd forget, huuuhh??"
His gaslightining used to work at the beginning of ur relationship but sooner or later its not hard to notice his patterns 🗿
Like yas ok, he could just put up a whole ass strategy in how to not get u to notice that he didnt brush em at all but bro
Hes too lazy
And hes a sucker for attention 😩 like he might be "annoyed" if u nag at him bc of smth but he absolutely loves it bc its just one of his many ways to get ur attention without him having to actively get up and get it for himself 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Hes a huge clown but i love him 😭
Dazai tends to forget his socks or smth lying on the floor but THIS mf right here just doesnt rly care 😭
Like that was the first thing u noticed when u entered his apartment 🤡
Its not right out messy on a disgusting degree, its more like theres tons of trinkets n shit from cases or just random candy wrap hidden under the couch 💀💀💀
The epitome of "I can do it tomorrow" bc bro doesnt forget, he just IGNORES that he has to do it 😭
might take a while to actually get him to yk do smth around the house
used to prob only sleep and shower at his apartment and thats it💀
But when hes whipped then hes whipped and hed actually try his best to help around the house
Key word "try" 🤡
Like its often tbh accompanied by "okay, ill do it but only if i get smth"
A MANCHILD, I SAY 👹👹👹👹
But there are days when he legit deep cleans everything by himself bc either you had a bad day or yall had a fight 👹👹
still would whip out the "now gimme something, please 😋" if yall cuddle after a fight and he cleaned and tidied everything up for his love 🤩
doesnt always have to be candy yk HEUEHEUEHEUUE 👹👹👹👹👹
also its not a surprise but dont let him near the kitchen
HE COULD
HE RLY COULD COOK SO WELL
Like he had only cooked for ONE time and it was like a fever dream
Bc u legit had a fever and he cooked chicken soup but uhm 🗿
he cooked it so good??? Like veggies n meat cut and cooked up nicely?
Broth kicking in real hard?
Like? "What the hell? I thought you couldn't cook??"
Bro is about to put that spoon fr away 💀
"I'm not so heartless to let you starve and I definitely wont be giving you some cheap soup either. I just looked it up on the internet and followed the instructions so you gotta get well soon because I miss your cooking 🤩🤩"
Are we flattered?? Gurl, maybe but he'd def know if we tried to make ourselves be sick to taste his cooking again
Bro only offers to help when it comes to baking 😪😮‍💨😮‍💨
His only help is licking the dough or chocolate outta the bowl or smth 😀
would sneak in many kisses tho bc he likes u and sweet stuff is just sugar overload for him and he loves it 🤩
I think one of the important factors for him in a relationship is that fukuzawa approves of you? Since he does value his opinion over his own intellect
Like bro trusted him when it came to Fukichi and other ppl 💀
fukuzawa could legit go "aliens r evil" and ranpo would be like "ok everyone, aliens are evil!!!!" 🗿🗿🗿
honesrly i dont think why there would be a reason for fukuzawa not to accept you (if there is one then time to take 100 steps back and reflect on urself 💀)
He'd prob be impressed on how u even fell in love with him bc.. its ranpo💀
petty, clingy, can be manipulative ( but never with ill intentions), would legit prank ur ass bc he can, impatient and quickly bored af
But hes attentive, kind, can be patient when it comes down to it, empathetic (depends sksks) (also thank u fukuzawa for kinda ramming that into his head 🤩), affectionate in his own way (a sucker for physical touch but would NEVER right out admit it 🗿) and so much more honestly
there arent any real red flags tbh (might come as a surprise for some ppl)
Maybe maybe he'd obviously have a bit of difficulty fully opening up and i do believe there might be times where he once or twice legit deducted what ur feelings r for him bc hes used to being careful around people and especially bc in case someonw could randomly target the agency
Or is some kinda criminal in general
But honestly when hes learned to trust you then you know youve got yourself someone loyal 💅 and i mean FR loyal
personal favorite hc and honestly prob canon since we've already seen it : he'd not be ashamed to throw hands at someone when he thinks you're being insulted or harassed
And with hands i mean exposing them to 100% until they are pissing their pants and begging him to leave them alone 🤩🤩🤩
Also also, gives me off a similar vibe to dazai with the "maybe having to walk on eggshells" around them but ranpo doesnt make you feel as watched tbh as dazai which would kinda make it easier to talk to
but bro isnt as smooth as him so whOOP 💀💀
Overall iconic and a solid 8/10 🤩🤩🤩💕💕💕
Tumblr media
The random ratings i gave them LMAO 💀💀💀 hope u like em 🗿

15! mafia! soukoku getting together before 5 years of tension challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
ok so I don't think I need another WIP on my plate but i can't stop thinking about them so I'm gonna write a hella long fic outline for a hypothetical fic I might've written in a different timeline
This is a half canon compliant half Chuuya leaves the mafia with Dazai AU, with a focus on their powers + how it affects them
Chuuya struggles with his identity and his agency bc of Arahabaki sharing his body, and combats it by trying to be as kind and giving as possible-- it's a way of proving to himself that these decisions are his, not Arahabaki's, because Arahabaki would never choose to be kind. As a result, he gives himself to others too easily, creating a tension of giving up agency/identity in order to prove that he has agency/identity
he does this with the sheep and then with the port mafia, where he eventually meets dazai
dead apple happens
Chuuya thinks the guy is actually the biggest asshole maybe in the universe, but begrudgingly accepts that his power is very useful and they make a good team (you would have to actually waterboard this out of him)
Dazai deems Chuuya his dog, and when Chuuya gets pissed and keeps pestering him abt how patronizing it is, Dazai responds lightly, as if he's saying that the sky is blue,
"Oh please. You were a dog long before I called you one--" Dazai doesn't even bother having the decency to look at Chuuya before ripping his life apart. "--eager to be on a leash and be taken on walks if it meant that it pissed off the wolf inside you. I just have the manners to actually call it a leash."
it isn't the first nor the last time that chuuya wants to kill him, but he can't deny Dazai's right (he usually is, infuriatingly)
He still hits him with a boulder
they build up trust over multiple months-- Dazai begins to believe in Chuuya's competence and skill (enough to relax on missions, because chuuya will take care of things, chuuya will catch the things I miss, and chuuya will catch me if I fall), and Chuuya will follow whatever order Dazai gives, no questions asked (He never steers chuuya wrong, never betrays him in a way that matters, never hurts him in a way that lasts-- usually people would've by now, but not Dazai-- he just annoys him and pranks him and thrashes him in video games, casually saying things about chuuya that are so on the nose that chuuya doesn't feel seen through, but seen)
chuuya goes on a mission that he's supposed to lead himself, and dazai tags along bc he's "on vacation" (healing from broken bones) and bored and knows that chuuya wouldn't let him get more hurt
there's a critical point in the mission where chuuya has to make a decision-- either to jump into the battle and hurt himself to save his subordinates, even if it means the mission wouldn't be completed successfully, or to let them die, guaranteeing success
He doesn't know what Arahabaki would choose, and he's terrified of choosing the same option it would-- he doesn't want to think that he's slowly turning into Arahabaki, that Chuuya one day will be no longer--
Dazai knows. Dazai always knows.
A warm hand envelops his.
The familiar shiver of No Longer Human blankets over him.
"It's your choice, Chuuya." Dazai is looking directly at him, serious for once. "No one else is here now."
And Chuuya, simple, stupid Chuuya, feels the tension he's known his whole life leave him completely-- and what was left?
Oh.
The sun catches on Dazai's brown hair, beautiful even dusted with concrete powder and dried blood--
Fuck.
His hand is warm, his body is still, so trusting, his eyes are unblinking, so knowing--
And Chuuya falls irreversibly in love.
There's no real hiding it from Dazai (nor is there really a "normal" way that Chuuya can act anymore, knowing that he had the capacity, the capability for love)-- Chuuya tries for a while, but Dazai keeps staring at him with calculating eyes, suspicious and uncomfortable with whatever Chuuya is hiding from him
He pesters Chuuya constantly, making infuriating guesses about crushes (fucking Mori??? Chuuya wanted to kill Dazai for even suggesting it) and Chuuya's had enough of trying to escape who he is (which his feelings are tied to, unfortunately)
So, slowly, he lets himself show the affection he wants to-- a brush of hands, a hold on Dazai that's a little too tight when they lean on each other, a patching up of wounds that's a little gentler, a dinner of crab soup and rice that he took hours to learn how to cook---
Dazai stops pestering Chuuya pretty quickly after that
(He also never pulls away when Chuuya presses in, never comments on it, acts as if he doesn't know and doesn't care, and Chuuya finds some twisted sort of relief in that)
He's also become fiercely protective of Dazai, working thrice as hard so that he never sustains a single injury bigger than a scratch
"Wow---, why's my dog so easily riled up recently?" (they both know why)
Dazai is his to protect, but his in no other way. Chuuya knows that. He turns away when he flirts with pretty girls and gives them his number, and still admonishes him with the same tone he always does when he fucks around with women instead of doing his job
Chuuya genuinely shrugs it off— he doesn't love Dazai for it to be returned— it's just a fact in his life— his hair is red, his eyes are blue, he loves Dazai. Fin. He doesn't need to be in a relationship with him, he doesn't need to own him, he just wants to keep Dazai safe, and make him happy where he can
Dazai, meanwhile, is actually having a conniption— He figured out that Chuuya had a crush on him pretty quickly, but he's the most lost he's ever been in his life
He's never been loved so gently before, so carefully, as if he's a unique existence and intrinsically worthy of love-- Chuuya doesn't use him, doesn't expect anything of him, just keeps giving giving giving giving
Fact: Dazai has always been useful. Fact: Dazai has always been desirable, but in a way that seems dangerous. Fact: Every person who's ever held desire for him seemed to want something in return, as payment for the chore of liking him.
He annoys Chuuya more than anyone he's ever met, and yet Chuuya never treats taking care of him as a chore. He looks into Chuuya's eyes, sees a strange sort of pride, of gratefulness for relying on him, of joy just from the act of indulging him--
He asks nothing of Dazai, nothing, content to hold his hand firmly while Dazai's remains limp, asking nothing nothing nothing, backing off the second Dazai starts to squirm (though, sometimes, Dazai was just adjusting his posture on the couch, he wasn't pulling away— but he'd rather die before he asked the dumb little garden gnome to put his head on his shoulder again)
Dazai has never been more confused in his life. He's only sure of three things: 1) that Chuuya’s affection is genuine, 2) that it is far too good for him, which is a shame because 3) he'll never be able to return it.
Months pass in this limbo state— Chuuya backs off the second Dazai shows Any sign of being uncomfortable (he isn’t, he never was, but he’s confused by the frustration that wells up inside whenever Chuuya mistakes one of his random movements as resistance, pulling away, leaving Dazai oddly lonel—)
They usually don’t get hurt on missions— in all visible aspects, they’re perfect partners; Dazai’s plans don’t fail, and Chuuya never disappoints
But Mori thinks they’ve been a little too full of themselves recently, that they might benefit from a little humility, so he sends them straight into a trap
Chuuya drinks water from a safehouse that Mori arranged to have drugged
His vision goes blurry, fast
He tugs at Dazai, who’s keeping guard, blinking rapidly
“What, slug? Have you forgotten how sleeping works—“
“Dazai,” he chokes out.
Dazai snaps into focus, scanning Chuuya immediately.
“What happened?” Dazai doesn’t understand why panic is rushing through his veins, watching his partner struggle for breath. “Chuuya, breathe—“
“Don’t,” he strangles out, the word barely a whisper. “Don’t drink the water, something’s—“ Chuuya’s body seizes.
“Chuuya!” Dazai grabs him by the shoulders, and he’s surprised by how terribly his own hands are shaking— he can’t lose him, he can’t lose him, not him, not him, he’s never felt this strongly about the possibility of loss before, but he can’t lose Chuuya, he Can’t lose Chuuya, not the warm hands that hold his own, not the soft hair that buries into his neck, not the way his body always seems to fall into his, utterly trusting, not him, please god, not him, not the boy who loves him— he knows he doesn’t love Chuuya back, but he can’t lose Chuuya—
He brings Chuuya to his chest, preparing to make him throw up—
A bullet tears through Dazai’s arm.
Another one, seconds later, through his leg.
Dazai hisses in pain, grabbing his gun from his pocket
He’s not the best sharpshooter in the mafia for nothing— he shoots into the distance and hears both bullets hit their marks— he’s listening for the sound of two bodies falling—
A third gunshot rings from behind, and Dazai isn’t going to be fast enough to dodge it in time, fuck, but he can shift so it hits some non critical part of his body—
Shaking arms shove him to the ground
Dazai thinks the sound of the bullet burying itself into Chuuya’s body is going to haunt him for the rest of his life.
Chuuya’s warm blood is soaking into his lap, and Dazai’s vision begins to turn red at the edges
He uses more bullets than necessary to kill the last sniper, shooting his hands first, then his legs, his arms, his shoulders— he doesn’t get the mercy of a quick death— he hopes he bleeds, just like Chuuya is now—
The helicopter would come to pick them up at the meeting point in a few hours— he just needed to last until then—
He treats Chuuya’s injuries the best he can, murmuring his name like a prayer, begging begging begging
He ignores his own pain— or, that’s not quite right— he doesn’t even register his own pain— his own wounds are nothing in the face of the possibility of Chuuya’s death, and adrenaline keeps his limp arms moving, his wobbly legs walking
The helicopter picks them up
On board, a doctor patches Chuuya up and assures Dazai the poison wasn’t lethal and that the shot didn’t hit any major organs
Upon hearing (his) Chuuya would be ok, all of Dazai’s muscles relax at once, and he passes out
Chuuya wakes up in the hospital first
Dazai is in a comatose state, recovering— he’d be fine, but it’s the worst he’s been injured since Chuuya was assigned to be his partner
Chuuya waits by his side, holding his hand, running his fingers through his hair, caressing his cheek with his hand
He heard from the doctors that Dazai insisted, hysterically, that the doctors treated Chuuya first, despite his own injuries worsening by the minute
“Fucking asshole,” Chuuya pinches Dazai’s cheek.
He doesn’t wake up
He wakes up a week later, blinking slowly into consciousness
Chuuya is sleeping beside him, resting his cheek in the palm of Dazai’s hand
His eye bags look horrendous, and his face is pale
He nudges him without meaning to
Chuuya wakes up immediately
“Dazai?” He rubs his eyes a few times, as if he was checking he was awake. A few blinks later, Chuuya’s entire face melts. “Fuck, Dazai.”
Dazai isn’t prepared for the armful of Chuuya that barrels into his chest, burying into his neck— oh, Chuuya is warm—
Chuuya begins pressing small kisses into his hair, into the skin between his ears and his neck, eventually moving to kissing him on the apples of his cheeks
Dazai’s heart is doing a weird flop in his chest— he sees Chuuya’s sapphire blue eyes shining with tears, feels his chapped lips against his face, and god, is it pathetic that this feels like the first time he’s ever really been alive?
“You scared the shit out of me—“ Chuuya’s voice is trembling. “Why the fuck would you make them treat me first— I was literally fine, you fucking dumbass bitch, and I heal fast, you know that, you’re the lanky brittle stick— you were in a fucking coma for like a week, do you even know how, how worried I was?”
Frozen as he is, Dazai stumbles out a “why?”
Chuuya glares at him.
“You know why.”
He does. He still doesn’t know why. But Chuuya is peppering kisses all over his face and murmuring reminders to himself about gauze changes and medicine and antibiotics, so Dazai just lets himself stop thinking for once—
He catches Chuuya glancing at his lips, and he waits for a kiss there, but it never comes.
“You missed a spot.”
Chuuya turns bright red (cute cute cute), and looks toward the wall, clearing his throat.
“You should save that kiss for someone you love, mackerel.” Chuuya sighs, the red beginning to leave his cheeks. His eyes lose a bit of light, and Dazai wants to shove his words back in his throat. “I wouldn’t— you’ve already, uh, let me do this much.” He rubs the back of his neck, uncomfortable, as he untangles himself from Dazai.
Dazai wants to throw something (when did he ask Chuuya to stop, why is Chuuya sitting back in the chair, why is Chuuya holding his own hands instead of his, come back come back come back).
But Dazai doesn’t say anything, and Chuuya starts milling around the hospital room, collecting his medication
Chuuya nurses him back to health
He doesn’t kiss Dazai again
More months pass
Chuuya still asks for nothing from Dazai, and Dazai is weirdly frustrated by it (Oda and Ango are tired of hearing about it— they insist that Dazai has, ew, Feelings for him, to which he responds, like a mature adult, “The only feelings I have for the amoeba are pity and disgust— he’s stupid, it’s all stupid! And I’m a genius, obviously, so this is all below me!” He mutters, under his breath, “Dumb Odasaku, stupid ango, thinking they know better than me”)
They’re at a high end mafia party
Chuuya looks absolutely dashing, as always
Dazai cleaned himself up just to watch Chuuya’s face turn red
Dazai’s fooling around with some girls, playing the games he always plays, and glances out of the corner of his eye
Dazai freezes.
A Port Mafia man is on his knees, his hand cradling Chuuya’s, his lips planted firmly on Chuuya’s knuckles
And Dazai feels like he’s boiling alive— he hasn’t even kissed Chuuya, and this, this GRUNT is DIRTYING his— Chuuya with his fucking disgusting mouth, and Chuuya’s skin is so soft and warm and smooth and Dazai should be the only one in the world who knows how it feels
Dazai storms up to him and snatches Chuuya’s hand away, replacing it with his own. He introduces himself, but his tone and his eyes are deadly.
They sit in a rare moment of silence on the way back
Chuuya looks weirdly happy
Dazai doesn’t want to wipe the look off his face, so he keeps his mouth shut for once, watching the moonlight catch in his partner’s red hair and blue eyes— he’s so beautiful, Dazai thinks, and he tries to burn the image of Chuuya’s smug smile into his retinas
Dazai follows Chuuya home
They fall back into their old childish teasing the second they collapse on the couch, wrestling and yelling between delirious laughter— that’s the thing about Chuuya, Dazai thinks, he makes Dazai feel like the kid he never got to be.
Chuuya wins a round, and Dazai wins a round, and though they hadn’t agreed on a bet or a reward, Dazai chirps, unable to stop himself, “Guess that means that I have to do something for you, and you have to do something for me! You know, to be fair!”
“Ok…” Chuuya is staring at him suspiciously, checking behind him for a hidden pillow or another similar weapon (which, rude! he would never cheat! Scout’s honor.)
Dazai’s eyes seem to be darting everywhere but Chuuya. “For Chuuya, hmm… I’ll stop flirting around with girls!”
Chuuya blinks at him, bewildered. “I don’t really mind— it’s not like—“
Dazai cuts him off (he doesn’t want to hear the end of the sentence, for some reason?), the next words rapidly stuttering from his mouth—“And in exchange, Chuuya’s not allowed to flirt with anyone, ok?”
A light seems to dawn in Chuuya’s eyes, and he bites his bottom lip, trying to keep down a laugh. “Ok, mackerel. Deal.”
“Good slug.”
Chuuya actually does laugh, this time. “Fuck off.”
Things are a little different, after that. Chuuya gets more confident— he invites Dazai over for movie nights where he falls asleep on his shoulder, he occasionally presses a chaste kiss atop Dazai’s bandages (as if he’s something worth loving, somehow), and they still wrestle and fight and prank each other, but it’s euphoric— it’s their communication, their reminder that the other is thinking of them.
Dazai is still the one on the receiving end of things, and he realizes Chuuya’s never gonna kiss him on the lips because of his stupid moral code that kisses should be loving and romantic from both sides, and well, Dazai doesn’t know about love or any of that other dumb stuff, but he wants to kiss Chuuya
Dazai stays over at Chuuya’s apartment more often than not, and one day, as Chuuya’s leaving for work (he always shows up a couple hours earlier than Dazai), Dazai gathers up the blankets and waddles over to him, still sleepy
“Chuuya?”
“Fuck off,” he replies out of habit more than anything else.
“Chuuyyuyuyaaaaa—“
“What?” He finally turns to Dazai, who seizes the opportunity to give him a kiss, licking Chuuya’s lips as he pulls away.
“Have a good day at work!” Dazai smiles against Chuuya’s lips.
Chuuya works through a couple of phases— shock, joy, all encompassing bigger than the universe giddiness, shock, hope, hope, hope
He watches Dazai waddle back to his bed and collapse in the middle of it, taking up both his side and Chuuya’s
Chuuya smiles all day
After Oda’s death, Chuuya is the first one to grab Dazai’s hand before he can drown.
Dazai has never doubted that Chuuya cared for him, that Chuuya loved him, and it’s so fucking affirming to be believed— to know that someone believes you’re human, through and through
So he hopes that Dazai would trust him to take the initiative here, to make a choice that would truly be a middle finger to Arahabaki, to let Dazai be the savior he already was to Chuuya
“Dazai,” He says, knowing what happened before Dazai says a word, seeing it in his grieving eyes, his miserable form (how dare people think he has no emotions, how dare them, how dare them). He grabs both of Dazai’s hands and pushes their foreheads together with enough force to be a headbutt. His smile is sharp, a little scared, but he’s sincere. “Let’s run away together.”
and they run away and never define their relationship completely, but they are partners, through and through
Chuuya wants agency and to be seen as human and to be trusted and believed, Dazai wants to trust someone to take care of him and to believe in someone’s care for him and sees Chuuya as utterly human
They complete each other, they trust each other unconditionally
Chuuya wakes up with a ring on his finger one day, and Dazai shrugs and says that it might make Chuuya’s side of the deal they made 4 years ago a little easier
Chuuya thinks this is very funny
Dazai wakes up the next morning with a matching ring on his finger
They never have a wedding— they don’t need to prove their partnership to anyone— and they can count the amount of times they’ve said “I love you” on one hand— that’s private, that’s theirs and no one else’s
They’re both part timers at the ADA (the ADA insisted; if they were both full timers, there’d be no work for anyone else to do— Chuuya plows through paperwork, and they’re still soukoku— they never fail a single mission)
In their free time, they play games, write some shitty novels and some not so shitty novels, they try painting, they both become polyglots, read all the books they can in all the languages they can read, and it is all so mundane and so, so human
they no longer have to prove it to anyone
They are home

Tumblr media
Fyodor
It felt so cold.
Not that the room’s temperature was low in particular, in fact - it was fairly warm, and the fireplace crackling filled the space with both visual and auditory ambiance.
But that knife against your throat made you freeze in the chair you were sitting on.
You felt the blade firmly being pressed against your skin, while a hand forced your chin up, making Fyodor’s glimmering, violet eyes unable to avoid.
He let out a soft chuckle while he softly tilted his head to the side, as if he’s not even seeing you as a human, let alone his significant other - more like livestock he’s examining. Something worthless, something faulty, an imperfect product.
‘So how long were you planning on waiting to tell me?’ he asked, so casually, so lightheartedly, as he pressed the knife a little more into your skin - it stung you, it made you almost choke on the lump in your throat, however, blood wasn’t drawn… yet.
You knew exactly what he’s talking about. For a moment, you wondered; does he know that if you didn’t go along with what that man wanted, he wouldn’t be possessing the confidential files on Europe’s top ability users? Let alone the documents - had you not given yourself to that other guy, you would’ve risked so much more. You would’ve risked Fyodor’s whereabouts, the mission, the information, even your own life - although that was the thing you cared the least about.
‘Fyodor, I… had… to…’ you mumbled. You tried to speak up as much as you could, to hide your shaky voice and mask the actual terror you’re feeling right now.
No matter how close you were with Fyodor, deep down, he still scared you - he always did.
‘It was… the… the only way….’ you forced the words out of your mouth.
Fyodor shook his head, clicking his tongue, ‘You sinned, my little mouse.’
His piercing, violet gaze felt like a hundred needles stinging into your eyes - you could swear his eyes stung even more than the knife he was pressing to your neck. His violence filled eyes met with your terrified ones as tears slowly started to roll down your face.
‘Had you taken my guidance, this would not have happened.’ he said in a calm voice, referring to your little incident before you headed out to gather information - more specifically, that you did not consult him beforehand.
In your mind, you forged the perfect plan, you had it figured out to the smallest detail - or so you have thought. In hindsight, all you wanted was to just stop yourself from even heading out and let Fyodor handle it.
Fyodor wasn’t saying anything. He was just staring at you, soaking in the sight of you crying vulnerably, and staring up to him - not that you had the choice to look somewhere else. Your suffering to him was what water to someone wandering the desert for days to no end - and Fyodor was very thirsty.
He chuckled in amusement - you knew that chuckle way too well.
Your tears heavily blurred your vision, but still, the smirk on Fyodor’s face was crystal clear.
After moments which seemed like forever, he leaned down to you, now his eyes at an even level with yours.
You let out a small whimper in fear.
He finally opened his mouth, not raising his voice above the level of a faint whisper.
‘Repent.’
Tumblr media
Chuuya
You groaned in pain, raising a hand to a spot on your head that pounded like it’s about to explode. You noticed pretty soon that your hand and arm is giving you trouble as well - with every little movement, pain shot through your entire body, making it unbearably painful to move.
Your senses were still a bit dull, but you were certain you’re hearing a familiar voice sobbing not far from you.
You fixed your eyes on the man sitting on the couch - with one shaky hand he was holding a phone, and with another he was gripping his hat so tight that it was a miracle he didn’t tear it apart.
You tried to let go of the wall and make your way over Chuuya, however that only resulted in you falling down on your knees again - you were aching with such a deep, piercing pain both physically and mentally that it felt more like a boulder pushing you down on the floor, making it impossible for you to get up once again.
You remembered a lot of yelling and screaming, and a lamp shuttering on the floor. Books flying everywhere, then a large thud, and then everything going blurry, and then well… you regaining consciousness with an unbearable, sharp pain.
The soft thud you made when you fell back to your knees drew Chuuya’s attention to you.
‘Y/n? Y/n?! Are you okay? Are you hurt?! Fuck. Oh my god. Fuck!’ Chuuya yelled, while he was next to you in an instant.
You carelessly raised your shoulders. You felt so humiliated.
‘What’s that?’ you asked silently, eyeing the phone in Chuuya’s hand - from what you could make out, it was an incredibly long paragraph of text, from no other than Dazai.
‘... he told me everything.’ he muttered, staring at the ground.
‘Everything?’
Chuuya nodded.
‘Yeah. He walked me through what happened last night when he ran into you. He… said the same thing as you did. About that dickhead trying to get it with you. And if he doesn’t kiss you in front of him, god knows what could’ve happened…’
You stared at Chuuya’s deep, teary blue eyes - even with little to no strength, you tried to empathize with him, you tried to feel the pain he was going though; but yours was much greater to allow you to do that.
‘Y/n, I- I didn’t mean to hurt you, I-...’ Chuuya stuttered. The consequences of his actions hit him like lightning when he received the text message from Dazai reassuring him that there’s nothing between you and him and you love Chuuya and Chuuya only - Chuuya’s temper got the better of him.
He carefully placed his hands around you, paying special attention to your bruises, the blue and purple marks his violence left on you.
‘I-I’ll take care of you baby. I… Jesus fucking Christ…’ he muttered, trying to help you to get up.
You let yourself be pulled up from the ground and be guided to the bathroom to get yourself cleaned by a sobbing, shaking Chuuya.
The ache in your body felt a bit better by now, although with difficulty, you could move around a little - but the feelings didn’t seem to want to return just yet to you.
As if the moment he slammed you to the wall, all your sadness, anger, frustration and hatred just evaporated, and there’s nothing left but an empty shell of something you used to be.

Dazai
It’s day 4 of no contact with your boyfriend.
If looks could set a phone on fire, yours would’ve definitely made yours go up in flames - you’ve been practically staring at it, anticipating the moment when it’s finally gonna buzz with a notification from Dazai. He should be contacting you soon, shouldn’t he?
He did say he will be back - why would he lie to you? He just said he needs a little time and it’s going to be okay.
At that point, you couldn’t decide which is more unbearable: the knot in your stomach, the lump in your throat, or your thoughts which were eating your sanity away piece by piece.
He didn’t say that it’s over, none of you established that this would be the end of your relationship, so he’s still your boyfriend, right? He’s still your lovely, caring Dazai, isn’t he? He still loves you… he must still love you, or he would’ve said if it was otherwise…
… wouldn’t he?
That night kept replaying in your head over and over.
That night where you pressed your lips onto someone else’s.
Your consciousness started tearing you apart as soon as it happened - you didn’t do it because you wanted to be unfaithful, you never meant to dishonor your relationship and most of all, Dazai. But what else could you have done?
You tried to ignore the blackmail for months, until… you just couldn’t. Until he actually threatened to expose Dazai’s dark past relating to the mafia. You had no choice but to give in, one meetup and it would be over and you could go back to how everything was before, without all the anxiety and paranoia.
Your breathing was a mess; you were laying in bed, trying to at least breathe in a little oxygen so you wouldn’t pass out from bawling your eyes out. You tightened your grip around one of Dazai’s shirts, lifting it to your nose, trying to take in some of his smell, or at least what was left on it on that piece of clothing.
It wasn’t one of those crying sessions where your emotions flowed out and eventually you were left relieved; it was the kind of crying where no sound left your mouth, where only tears rolled down your face while it felt like with every messy breath, you exhale a fragment of your very soul.
Suddenly, your phone started buzzing; you hastily checked who could be calling you now, in the middle of the night.
Your heart skipped a beat when you saw that it was Dazai finally reaching out to you. You took a deep breath as a last resort to regulate your breathing and to gather yourself before you answered.
‘Honey?’ you asked, with your heart beating in your throat.
Silence.
‘D-Dazai?’ you asked again after he didn’t say anything for a minute. Instead of feeling scared, worry started to creep its way into your mind.
‘Sorry, I’m here, y/n.’ he said in the most casual tone, as if he was just calling you on a regular afternoon to check up on you.
Suddenly, you heard another voice from the phone - one you couldn’t recognise, one that felt like a huge knife being struck into your heart.
‘Could you make that call a bit later?’
It was a voice of a woman.
‘Where are you…?’ you muttered, trying to keep your voice as stable as you could - unsuccessfully.
‘Sorry, sorry. I’ll be hanging up.’ Dazai apologized - but not to you.
‘I’ll be in touch later, y/n. Good night.’ he said, this time finally to you.
‘No, no Dazai, wai-’
Before you could finish, he hung up.
His suspicious phone call left you even more scarred, even more damaged than before - you almost wished he never called at all, that you would rather he just disappeared and never talked to you again.
Your silent sobs, as if a bomb, exploded into you wailing, screaming with tears into Dazai’s shirt, letting all your self-hatred be absorbed by the fabric that you were covering your face with.
You couldn’t and you didn’t want to believe he was out with a woman, doing god knows what, god knows where - how could he do this? Was this revenge? Why did he call you in the first place?
Why was he torturing you like this?
Your whole body tensed up, from your flowing tears, you could barely see a thing - it was one of those moments where life just didn’t feel real, where it all felt like some horrifying nightmare you would love to wake up from.
With all your anger, you threw your phone against the wall - breaking the screen to absolute pieces, but you just couldn’t care about that at that moment.
At least he can’t contact you. At least you can’t know what he’s doing.
You hugged your knees, trying to comfort yourself as much as you could, trying to convince yourself that this is still just a bad situation you two will endure and get over, and this is not the end; that he’s still your Dazai.
However, as much as you tried to suppress it, something in your gut was telling you the opposite.
And as much as you didn’t want to admit it, you felt like that something in your gut is right.

i just read the ''flexible reader" scenario, and it clicks with me; can you do one with Mykola /Nikolai and any other characters?? because My OC who's flexible is actually paired with kolyaa
of course I can! (i can't resist a req with mykola in it lol i love him too much) also i wouldn't mind learning more about your oc if you're okay with talkin about them 👉👈 (everyone with a BSD OC get into my DMs and rant about them immediately please)
Reader who is flexible pt. 2
Tumblr media
♡ pairing: Mykola Hohol, Doppo Kunikida, Sigma x gn!flexible!Reader
♡ synopsis: How do these boys react to finding out their S/O is flexible?
♡ cw: Suggestive content (GO AWAY MYKOLA. And Kunikida? I expected better from you)
note: Choices are a little random, but I like Sigma and feel like Kunikida doesn't get enough love. Hehe 🌸 Apologies for errors, hope you enjoy
Tumblr media
Mykola:
...oh boy.
Okay first of all? Many sexual comments, in public, mostly likely to Fyodor, Fyodor is tired and you are tired but Mykola ISN'T (he just likes to brag in all honesty)
Second of all, contortionist/circus jokes. He's a clown. A clown and an contortionist? Circus. That being said these jokes are actually intended to be affectionate
Okay but seriously. He is immensely entertained by this and actually thinks it's pretty cool!
He tries to imitate the things you do sometimes (and succeeds because his body has the physics of a Looney Tunes character), not necessarily to mock you but just to see if he can (and to match with you, at least in his head)
Brings it up out of nowhere by joking about it or something to try and get a rise out of you
Will ask you to use your flexibility for his amusement and interest, claims he's interested in the human anatomy but is actually just a dirty-minded jokester
He loves you beyond just your flexibility but he's very appreciative of the fact that it allows him to make so many dumbass jokes
Kunikida:
Kunikida is at first pretty intrigued and doesn't at all see it as a sexual thing- like he simply admires your athleticism.
And then that fool DAZAI-
Poor guy can't catch a break from then on. Even the most professional of people can't control their thoughts sometimes. But he does his best not to think dirty things because one, he respects you, and two, SCREW YOU DAZAI.
Well he's a martial artist so he's rather athletic himself, but maybe you start teaching him stuff like different stretches because he really needs to loosen up (literally, Kunikida's joints are stiff as hell I just know it)
In return he teaches you a thing or two about self defence! And like with Chuuya you two find a way to enhance both skills by combining them in different ways
Assumes you have a history of gymnastics and asks you about that (whether or not you do he still wants to know)
Not really a person who asks you to use your flexibility for his own entertainment but he's always fascinated to see it
He will throw Dazai if he says anything slightly off about it again
Sigma:
He FREAKS out when he first sees you do some contortionist type stuff. His reaction is something like 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? HUMANS CAN'T DO THAT?????????'
I don't think he'd really have been taught about the concept of human flexibility for athletic or artistic purposes. And even if he was aware he wouldn't have been expecting it from you
Once you explain the concept to him he understands and actually thinks it's pretty interesting. Continuously asks 'can you do [so and so]?' and is always amazed whenever you do it
Would be curious as to whether or not he'd be able to practice and get as flexible as you one day, but he never bothers to try because he's already busy (and he's too nervous to ask you for guidance)
He respects the time you'd have put in to get as flexible as you are and wants to follow your example in that way, determined king
In his head he would never ever make any sexual connection even if Mykola said something that implied it. He just doesn't see it
If he has any patrons who are dancers or gymnasts he might strike up a conversation and ask them about how to avoid pulling muscles and stuff just in case
Sometimes he just gets a little bit nervous about your health lol
Tumblr media
i don't know much about being flexible lmao. i'm rather large and i never was very good at dance (i was an alright athlete though!). couldn't do the splits till i was like ten sksjskjdkjsjdkd

Omg omg! Weird thought: SELKIE DARL.
mini rundown: selfies are supernatural seals that can turn into gorgeous humans when they shed their skin/coat. Buutt, if a human takes their coat, they usually end having to marry said human.
I imagine Chuuya and Akutagawa wouldn’t our right take to coat at first. Maybe they become friends and soon they find themselves catching feeling for the selkie. They’ll probably take the coat and hide it out of guilt. Offer to help selkie darl. But they soon find out and fight ensues.
With Dazai and Fyodor they might just watch you from afar at first and then straight up take the coat and trap you. You have no choice to get married ti them do you? After the marriage thing, they might threaten to or even go through with tearing the coat and permanently stoping you from turning to your seal form and wining away.
Buut, if you do manage to get you coat and leave? What would happen then?
i've read about selkies before but i'm not familiar with everything about them, so if i get anything wrong here do let me know :>
cw: yandere characters (chuuya, akutagawa, dazai, fyodor), obsessive behavior, manipulation, stalking, threats, imprisonment, forced marriage
chuuya sees you slip out of your skin one night, and he's mesmerized. of course, he isn't stupid enough to fall for someone just because of their otherworldly beauty, even if he knew they were actually something not human. what really gets him is when he starts seeing you around town in your human form, all smiling and friendly to everyone around you—including him, though the both of you were virtually strangers. you're so sweet to him, despite not knowing him, when you see him around your eyes light up and you get excited and he finds it...cute. in this scenario, you're more likely to fall for him first. after all, he's stunning, and it helps that he's so elusive; the mysterious air around him definitely adds to the appeal.
you were too good to him, especially since you had no idea of all the sinister things he was planning, but he would be lying if he said he hated the attention. eventually, he can't hide his feelings back, and even if you reciprocate, he insists it's for the best that you hand over your coat. what if someone took it, or hurt you because of it? at least, it'd always be safe with chuuya. you could trust him, you know.
akutagawa would be the opposite; he falls for you before knowing you weren't human. he's also taken by you, your personality, your friendliness—even if you don't like him in that way, he falls for you, and hard. it just so happens one day that he learns about your secret, and without thinking, when your back was turned, he swoops in and runs off with your coat.
you might realize he has it, perhaps he tells you he found something on the shore, not making it obvious he knew it was yours. you wouldn't want him to know you weren't human, so you decide the next best thing was to get him to gift it back to you. he did say he might save it as a gift for someone special in the future, and you could easily weasel your way to that spot with him being more than aware of your intentions but just as happy. regardless, akutagawa holds it from you for as long as he can, frantically searching for ways to forcefully keep you by his side because he knows you'd take it and disappear if he gave you your coat back. it's possible he might destroy it if he finds no other way. i don't think it's possible to escape in this scenario because akutagawa pulls all the stops (including destroying your coat) to make sure you stay with him.
dazai...he approaches you out of curiosity at first. you'd have foolishly switched into your human/seal form in a place where he had seen you, which is how he learned about your true identity. he's mostly only curious about you, at least, at first. he had no idea that such creatures existed and he wants to know more. dazai makes it clear from the start that he knows all about you, and stalks you constantly so that you couldn't hide from him. if it comes to a point where he thinks he likes you too much to risk you running off or going back to the sea, especially since he still has so many unanswered questions, dazai can easily find and steal your coat, leaving you at his mercy. and then, at every small mishap, he's all like, "i hope nothing happens to your coat!" and it's torture because you know he would easily go through with his threats. after all, he has nothing to lose from it.
for fyodor, i think similarly to chuuya it might be that selkie! reader falls for him first. i'm thinking, maybe a little mermaidesque thing where you're like wow humans are so cool and fyodor just happens to be walking by (pure coincidence! of course he hadn't been watching you for long before that and knew that you thought humans were interesting! of course not!) fyodor just has that charm about him.
he pretends to catch you staring at him one day, pretends to be startled by your presence. and it's worth it when your shocked expression meets his feigned one. it's easy for fyodor to start an unlikely friendship with you though he's not very talkative or expressive, you're satisfied with his company. and you trust him enough to not suspect him when one day your coat is missing and you're stuck in your human form. fyodor swoops in to help you, offering you shelter and food while he promises to find your coat.
obviously, the truth quickly comes to light when you realize it was fyodor with your coat all along. it's not like you can fight him when he's got a literal part of you that you need to return to your family in hand. he doesn't take any chances and destroys it at once, trapping you with him and dooming you to a miserable future forever.

“I wish I met you sooner” + bsd pairing of your choice (bc i don’t go there hehehe) 🫶
hiii brooke, thank you so much for indulging me 🫶🫶🫶 here is a skk fic, which takes place two months after dazai leaves the port mafia. this is fresh out of the google docs with no editing so please ignore any typos lol
trigger warnings: alcohol, referenced underage drinking, dazai-typical suicide mentions, one line referencing animal abuse, bsd-typical references to violence
prompt list here - i'm still accepting prompts + bsd ships
i wish i met you sooner
Dazai’s glass of whiskey taunts him from the counter. Condensation collects around the base as the ice slowly melts away. He keeps his hands clasped together in his lap, folded as if in prayer, though he never really believed in God. The only thing he ever truly believed in was…
“Good evening,” the bartender greets as a pair of footsteps Dazai knows too well climb down the stairs.
(He should have left an hour ago.)
(But he knew this was coming.)
Chuuya orders as he takes the seat next to Dazai, phone in hand. He doesn’t spare a single glance upward, typing with his gloves pulled up just above the thumbs. Dazai always thought that looked ridiculous. Chuuya does too, but he pretends otherwise just to argue.
Dazai should have left an hour ago. Not for his own sake, because who cares what happens to him, but because—
“Two months,” Chuuya says. He nods his thanks to the bartender as his glass is set down in front of him, then rests his head against his hand. His phone sits facedown on the counter. “Why are you still here?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
Chuuya scoffs. Takes a drink. Whirls around and grabs Dazai’s collar, then shoves him to the ground. Before Dazai’s vision comes back into focus, Chuuya has a foot on his chest. There’s a short joke dancing on the tip of Dazai’s tongue, but he swallows it down.
The back of his head throbs. He better not be bleeding.
“Why are you here?” he asks. It’s supposed to be checkmate.
But Chuuya just sighs like he’d expected Dazai to ask as much. He sits back down, freeing Dazai from the weight of his foot against his heart. “Why do you think?”
Dazai doesn’t want to answer that. He doesn’t want to stand up. He’d like to just sink straight into the floor, six feet down, and close his eyes forever. Why does he think Chuuya is here?
Well— When it comes to Chuuya, Dazai doesn’t think anything.
He knows Chuuya is here for the same reason Dazai hasn’t left yet. They are both subject to the whims of humanity in only the worst ways.
“It wasn’t worth Odasaku’s life,” he says, as way of explanation. Or something.
“You told me that already.”
“I know.” Dazai closes his eyes, still lying flat on the ground. Maybe, if he tries hard enough, he can will death to take him away. “Then, it was a warning. Now, it’s a reason.”
Chuuya clicks his tongue. “Maybe you weren’t cut out for the mafia, then.”
“Maybe I wasn’t.”
Silence. Chuuya hadn’t expected Dazai to agree. Dazai hadn’t expected Dazai to agree. They have something in common still, it seems—neither one of them think very highly of him. Neither one of them expect he’ll be honest, ever.
Dazai sighs. He opens his eyes, stares into a flickering bulb far above him. If he squints, it could be the moon shining bright against a starless sky. It could be the rising sun, breaking past the horizon as Dazai runs, runs, runs, knowing he is too late. Realizing for the first time that knowing is a curse.
A gloved hand enters his field of vision, and then Chuuya’s unimpressed face. His hair is unkempt and he’s taken his hat off, and the top button of his shirt is undone. He almost looks fifteen again.
Dazai doesn’t miss being fifteen, but he misses when Chuuya by his side was enough to stave off his longing for death. He misses when Chuuya was enough.
He takes Chuuya’s hand, allowing himself to be pulled to his feet.
“Why are you still here?” Chuuya tries again. His grip on Dazai’s hand tightens. He could break Dazai’s fingers without help from his ability, but he won’t.
“In this bar?” Dazai asks. “Or in Yokohama?”
“Either. Both.” Chuuya lets go and slides back onto his stool. He wraps his hands around his glass.
“I have work lined up in the city,” Dazai tells him. It isn’t a lie, exactly—though it wasn’t a guarantee either.
Chuuya barks out a laugh. “You? Work? As if!”
“I do! Really!”
Chuuya raises an eyebrow. “Okay… So, say I believe you. What sort of place would hire a former mafia executive?”
“Why?” Dazai sits, dragging his own drink closer to him. A trail of moisture settles in its wake, like slug slime. That’s funny—he’ll have to save it for some other time. “Are you looking for new employment too?”
Dazai already knows the answer, of course. Chuuya might have loved him once, but not enough to blindly follow him into the light.
“I don’t think so.” Chuuya drains the rest of his drink, then pushes the glass away from him. “And why are you here?” He gestures vaguely to the bar around him.
Dazai shrugs, nonchalant. “I always come here.”
(It used to be true. He used to come here at least once a week. But it’s no fun to drink alone.)
“You knew I was coming,” Chuuya says. It’s not a question.
“Of course I did. I know you.”
Chuuya’s expression softens, expectedly, because Dazai knows exactly how to take advantage of his emotions. He hates himself for it, sometimes. But manipulation is second nature for a demon, and that is all Dazai has been, since before Chuuya ever met him.
“Yeah,” Chuuya agrees. “But knowing is a two-way street with us.”
Dazai raises an eyebrow. “You knew I’d stay?”
“‘Course I did. I know you.”
Dazai swallows. He stares down into his drink. The ice is almost completely gone, and he has yet to take a single sip. He’s never liked the taste of whiskey, but he likes the way it burns his throat and he likes the thought that if he drinks enough, he might black out and never wake up. When he was fifteen, he liked the way it made him feel like an adult.
Now, he’s almost nineteen, and he sort of wants to go back to being a child. Not that his childhood was a particularly happy one, because it really really wasn’t, but—
His gaze lifts to Chuuya. Chuuya is already looking at him.
“I wish I met you sooner,” he says. Because if he knew Chuuya when he was ten, maybe he wouldn’t have been so miserable. Maybe he wouldn’t have stolen a hamster from a pet store just to watch it suffocate. Maybe he wouldn’t have pushed his classmate off the slide and gotten kicked out of school. Maybe he wouldn’t have gone back to that school playground in the middle of the night, climbed up to the top, and debated falling to the ground himself. His classmate’s blood still stained the wood. There was caution tape around the whole thing. People said they were going to tear it down and build something safer.
Maybe he wouldn’t have grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed it into his own foot just to make sure he could still feel human pain, even if he couldn’t feel anything else.
Chuuya hums. “Would that have changed anything?”
Dazai purses his lips. Looks away.
Maybe his childhood would have been happier if it had been spent with Chuuya by his side. But Mori would have still found him—them, together—and Dazai still would have taken his outstretched hand. Still would have let Mori drape a heavy coat over his shoulders, leaning into his touch as he told Dazai he had a very, very, important job for him that no one else could do.
“No,” Dazai admits. “No, it wouldn’t have.”
They would have had a few extra years together, and it would have hurt worse when this inevitable stake was driven between them. They were bound by fate to find each other, and bound by fate to fall apart. The red string that links them is knotted and frayed, but even if they met years earlier, it could not have been a pure love.
What else could come of a tie between a god and a demon?
“I wish I’d met you later,” Chuuya lies. “Or never. Asshole.” He waves the bartender over and pays for his singular drink, then lets his gaze fall back on Dazai. “Next time we meet, I hope I’m pulling your corpse out of a river.”
Dazai laughs. “Just don’t take credit for my hard work.”
“After all the post-mission reports you put your name on when I wrote them? No, I think I’ll break your jaw and put three gunshots in your chest.”
Dazai sighs, slumping in his chair. He watches Chuuya’s back, and just before he reaches the stairs, speaks up again. “Whatever. Guess I can’t feel the pain if I’m already dead. Just make sure I’m actually gone before you do it.”
Chuuya freezes. He looks over his shoulder, and Dazai chooses to not know what emotion is shining in his eyes. “You think I care enough to spare you that pain?”
“No,” Dazai answers honestly. “In fact, I think you love me enough that you wouldn’t have a choice but to hurt me.”
(They never said those words before Dazai left, even if they both knew. Maybe, if they’d met younger, they would have had a chance.)
Chuuya smiles, but it sits on his face wrong. Like it hurts. “If that’s the case, I’m sure it goes both ways.”
And then he’s gone.
The worst part is he’s right. Dazai loves Chuuya to the point of destruction, and Chuuya loves him just as hard in return. They love each other like a building on fire, like a tsunami kissing the shore, like a black hole consuming everything in its path. They love each other like their only options are to kill each other because gods and demons are not made for things like love.
Dazai loves Chuuya like a bullet to the head. Chuuya loves Dazai like two lungs full of water.
This is true when they are nineteen. It was true when they were fifteen. It will be true for as long as they both live. And it would have been true if they’d met when they were ten years old, stealing hamsters and pushing kids off slides and wondering what it means to be human.
Thirty minutes pass, and Dazai leaves. His glass of whiskey remains untouched.

If you don't mind me asking, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from BSD? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Thanks....
Side note: I literally got so excited when I got an ask notification. Sorry it took me awhile to answer it, I kinda went crazy with the details and I really had to think it over. Without further ado:
My Favourite Characters: 1) Dazai my babe; he's a very complex and in my opinion well written character.vOverall I love how despite the fact that he's morally grey and prone to violent tendencies he tries his best to be good because he wants to be the man Odasaku would be proud of. 2) Yosano; she's my girly and my babe. I genuinely love doctors and medics in the media. I'm also obsessed with her backstory because it's so different. The entire philosophy about how losing is a human right and she took that right away from people will always break my heart. 3) Kunikida; he's such an underrated character, I think his overall arc has been one of the most interesting. I'm not lying when I say I think he's had incredible growth as a character. It breaks my heart how all the odds are against him all the time yet he constantly blames himself. 4) Chuuya; I mean come on, he had to be on here, he's such a beautiful and well written character. I love Double Black's dynamic and Chuuya's backstory is so original and flushed out it makes him incredible to watch. Not only that but his ability and the way he carries himself is incredible. He's not written like many brutes and muscle men are written which I love. 5) Kouyou; Her character is another underrated one, I'm fascinated with her backstory and her overall relationship with the other mafia members. She had tried to escape as a kid and clearly struggled with her role in the darkness until she accepted it without a fight. She thought the same of Kyouka too and most likely also thinks the same of Chuuya. My top 5 scenes: 5) Akutugawa's confrontation with Kyouka during the Cannibalism Arc: It was such a quick moment that it's overlooked but it meant a lot to me, he was happy for her, that she found her purpose. He thought the only way to make her useful was to make her an assassin thrown to the wolves. But seeing Kyouka thrive in the light made him happy on her behalf. It also showed how Kyouka wasn't as afraid of him as she used to be, nor as ashamed of her past as she was before the Moby Dick or her heart to heart with Dazai. 4) Fukuchi's fight with Tachihara: I know the scene sucked because of the way things ended for Tachihara, but it was satisfying to see Tachihara's powers in action. I know we watched him go up against Yosano, Gin and Hirotsu, but seeing it being used so creatively against Fukuchi was breathtaking. It also really went more into depth with his internal battle about the Hunting Dogs and Fukuchi. Seeing him be so heartbroken Fukuchi betrayed them was so well portrayed. 3) "You're a Rough Ride Weretiger": Do I even need to explain how Akutugawa riding Atsushi to ballet music was one of the best scenes in the series. 2) Atsushi coming to terms with his complicated feelings for the Headmaster: This episode meant so much to Atsushi, as it does to me. I think it was very powerful because Atsushi doesn't forgive him. You don't need to forgive somebody to love them. The way Atsushi feels safer now that he's dead, but also dreaded the fact that the Headmaster even came to Yokohama in the first place? All the mixed emotions from that episode were truly powerful and I could rant about it for hours. 1) An odd choice but hear me out; Dazai confronting Kunikida in 'Love for the Disease Called Ideals': I know that the Azure messenger arc was Dazai's entrance exam in the manga and that Studio Bones butchered it to high heaven, but I really love the way that Kunikida and Dazai's relationship was portrayed in this episode. Dazai went on to state how the Azure King could become a dark path for Kunikida, and it also demonstrated how manipulative Dazai can be regardless of his intentions. Kunikida was truly born with tragedy in his blood and as Asagiri said was designed to suffer with Dazai. This episode not only demonstrated their dynamic perfectly, but also Dazai's understanding of Kunikida's weaknesses delving us deeper into his perspectives and why he's so rigid.

"That’s right, isn’t it wonderful?” He sang, leaning back in his chair and letting his head fall back. His eyes wandered over to the window nearest to him, as his neck strained over the back of his chair. There was something poetic to be said about the drops of rain sliding down the glass. “What’s a third year doing in algebra two?” Dazai asks, turning his chair to Chuuya’s direction. He’s a little flustered at his blunt attitude, but answers anyway. “Well, I suck at math,” he replies. “Thought that’d be obvious.” Dazai chuckles a little at his wording. Chuuya can be blunt, too. “We can’t all be good at it. What’s your favorite subject, then?” Dazai is playing a little game of twenty questions. Chuuya just wants the conversation to be over, but considers his query. He’s not the brightest, but loves socializing and being outdoors. “I’d have to say P.E.” Chuuya decides, continuing with “how about you?” “Eh, English is probably my top choice, but math is a close second,” he grins. “If you ever need a study buddy, you could always ask me,” Dazai slyly offers his ingenuine help. Chuuya rolls his eyes. This guy is more arrogant than he’d heard, and Chuuya definitely doesn’t need his help. “I’ll be fine.”

Dazai Osamu was, without a doubt, the most popular person attending Yokohama High School. All the guys respected him, and almost all the girls wanted to be with him. Everybody knew this, and because of that, he had almost everyone wrapped around his fingers.
Almost.
Chuuya Nakahara was widely known throughout the school as someone not to be messed with. His short temper and bad attitude have landed him in one-too-many fights. Because he tended to beat up anybody who looked at him wrong, he was the second most respected person attending Yokohama High School.
Being in second place was infuriating to Chuuya. So, while he had never talked to him personally, Chuuya hated Dazai.
So when their art teacher choose them as partners for their mid-term project, Chuuya could not be more irritated.

Newsflash: Dazai cares for Chuuya
Before reading any further, I will be talking about stormbringer, so spoilers ahead!! Translation credits go out to: @popopretty on tumblr, make sure to give this kind human some love and appreciation<3
Also if you want to read the first few chapters of stormbringer: @buraihatranslations is currently translating it, give them much love and appreciation as well, they deserve it!!
Honestly, I have been so obsessed with Soukoku lately and I think the reason behind this is because when it comes to Soukoku, their feelings for each other are not as easy to grasp as love or hate, it is much more profound than that. There is care, hurt, trust, resentment, companionship, bitterness, and consideration...And ironically enough, thats just the tip of the iceberg.
If we break down their individual feelings towards each other, it will be easier to understand their bond.
On Chuuya's end, his feelings are much more clear due to his expressive personality. He wears his emotions on his sleeves, he can try and hide what he feels towards Dazai but his true feelings tend to unravel easily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He sometimes tries to mask his feelings towards Dazai by throwing insults, but his facial expressions are enough to contradict what he is saying.
Tumblr media
Chuuya's feelings towards Dazai can be easier to comprehend. He obviously feels this certain betrayal due to the fact Dazai left the Port Mafia. Not to mention, he and Dazai have always had a rivalry relationship.
In the Soukoku wiki page, it is stated that Chuuya is aware of Dazai not experiencing a proper childhood, therefore allows him to act as childish as he can and lets him tease him relentlessly. I don't know how reliable this source is, but either way I think its worthy enough to add.
In the Dragon head conflict when Dazai was out of sight, Chuuya told Mori to forget about Dazai. That was until Hirotsu mentioned a microscope, Chuuya quickly realizes it was code language because he remembered a previous conversation where Dazai says he needs a microscope to be able to see Chuuya properly.
The moment he figured out it was a tracker, Chuuya did not hesitate to jump in and rescue Dazai. But here is the catch: No one but Chuuya knew about the microscope, if Chuuya really didn't care for Dazai he wouldn't have mentioned the microscope and kept all this under wraps, leaving Dazai in a mess.
Chuuya trusts Dazai with his life. He never hesitates to leave his life on Dazai's hands when it has to come to it. Chuuya and Dazai have known each other for years, for Chuuya to be able to trust Dazai that much is because Dazai also cares for him too, right?
The answer here is yes, Dazai cares for Chuuya. In a superficial level, it doesn't seem like Dazai truly cares, but I can assure you that he does care for him. Weather you like to think of his care in a platonic or romantic manner, the care Dazai has for Chuuya is undeniable and extremely significant for Dazai's character.
I think that stormbringer establishes this idea even further. There is one specific moment in this light novel that shows his genuine concern towards Chuuya's well being:
"There is one problem." Dazai cut off his sentence hesitantly. "It has nothing to do with the sucess rate of the plan. It is a matter we have to overcome in the end but... It may require some time to decide."
"What's with you?" Chuuya raised his eyebrows at Dazai. "Stop dramatizing it. Just hurry up and say it."
"I said earlier about this control spell to open the 'gate' that is used to reset the command inside Chuuya, right?" Dazai spoke with a strangely restrained voice. "If we use that, the logs of the command formula that were written in the past will be erased. That means...even if the memory erasure was used on Chuuya in the past, the traces of that will be erased as well."
"What?"
"I told you before right, the memory erasure command. The only way we can confirm if Chuuya is human or not is to check the history to see if the memory erasure command was ever used. It means..." Dazai looked at Chuuya with eyes that he had never looked at him before. Those eyes were serious. "If we use that control spell, the method to confirm if Chuuya is an artificial personality created by a string of code, or just a normal human being, will be lost. For good."
The time had stopped.
Chuuya opened his eyes and looked towards Dazai but his eyes were not seeing anything. The wind blew between the two of them. Even so, Chuuya did not blink.
"Verlaine became like that because he was tormented by the curse that he was not human. That only is enough of a big problem. The matter of being human or not." Dazai looked at his pocket watch, gave it a glance and continued. "I can delay the time until the plan starts for about two minutes. I will send an order for my men to wait... You can think about it alone for a while. Cuz I guess its hard for you to collect your thoughts with me around."
Having said so, Dazai turned away and walked down the stairs, leaving Chuuya alone.
Dazai fixated in his pocket watch. Two more minutes. Too short for a life decision. But he couldn't afford more than that.
Inside Dazai's head, he was planning a procedure to swith to an alternative plan in case Chuuya refused, at a tremendous speed.
This section in stormbringer is personally one of my favorites, this is a very rare moment between both of them, but especially for Dazai. Like I stated earlier Chuuya wears his emotions on his sleeves, therefore even if he tries to mask his care with insults, its still painfully noticable that he genuienly looks after Dazai. Chuuya also sometimes show a vulnerable side of himself to Dazai, especially after using corruption.
Dazai on the other hand is extremely unreadable. Its hard to understand his true intentions and if he really cares for people or only sees them as a pawn. In this moment though, Dazai was being painfully genuine. Dazai literally prioritized Chuuya over the mission. He was already thinking of coming up with an alternative plan just in case Chuuya refused, obviously the sucess rate of the alternative plan would be lesser than the actual plan Dazai had in mind, he choose Chuuya's wellbeing over a mission.
In this section, Dazai wasn't throwing jokes or witty remarks, he was being serious. Because Dazai knows how desperately Chuuya wants to be human. He knows how important being human is to Chuuya.
Dazai wasn't manipulating Chuuya by giving him the chance to decide, we can see that Dazai was literally showing a lot of hesitation when mentioning this to him, we also get to see what Dazai was thinking, and we can tell he wasn't thinking about manipulative his movements in any way. All of this wasn't coming out of manipulation, it was coming out of pure care.
After six steps, Dazai reached the stair. He stepped on the stair and started walking down. Three steps down the stair, he heard a *clang*, a cool sound of metal echoing behind him. It sounded like the metal was kicked by the sole of someones shoes. The moment Dazai realized what the sound was, Dazai turned around in surprise.
There was already no one at the top.
Dazai was dazed for a moment, then he loosened his lips and laughed.
"Trying to act cool, huh?" Dazai smiled, both annoyed and relieved. Then he turned on his radio and sent out his order. "Chuuya has sallied, everyone get ready for battle."
I personally love this part so much, relief washed over Dazai the moment he noticed that Chuuya was going to go through with the first plan, which proves my point that he wasn't manipulating him and how Dazai was under a lot of stress because he wasn't sure if the alternative plan would be as effective as his original one.
Yet he still was willing to go through the alternative plan if Chuuya refused, because Dazai values him and regards his wellbeing.
Dazai was being surprisingly gentle in this section, he was being honest. There was no ulterior motive behind his actions here, just a boy looking after his partner.
"So i'm going to send an order to my men to prepare for action... Is that okay?"
"Of course it's okay." Chuuya turned to Dazai. "Why are you asking me such a thing?"
Dazai didn't answer right away.
That was an unusual expression. It's like he was trying to say something, but he had to arrange the words in his head to decide where he should start. An expression he rarely shows.
This was right before Dazai drops the bomb to Chuuya about the memory erasure command. He was even asking for Chuuya's opinion on sending his men to get ready, this was the first time Dazai ever showed actual concern without masking it with witty remarks. You can tell that Chuuya isn't used to this.
And when you think about it, when Dazai and Chuuya have missions together, Dazai always uses corruption as a last resort and he always allows Chuuya to make the decision if they will be using it or not.
I personally belive that the main reason Chuuya trusts Dazai with using corruption is because The Sheep used to exploit his powers too much, but Dazai leaves the decision to use corruption up to Chuuya. Dazai understands the physical and mental toll corruption takes on Chuuya and therefore leaves the choice up to him.
Theres another section in stormbringer that I really enjoy, it doesn't necessairly show solicitude but I still think this should still be taken into consideration:
"You seem pretty confident that Chuuya is human, don't you?"
"I am," Dazai laughed with a sigh. "There is no way a man-made code could create such a personality that I detest so much."
Throughout the whole story, Dazai is more than determined that Chuuya is human. The main reason Dazai finds Chuuya so intresting is because of how frighteningly human Chuuya can be, because of the fact that he always wears his emotions on his sleeves, something Dazai rarely does himself. Thats personally a nice sentiment from Dazai's end, even when Chuuya struggles completely when it comes to believing in his own humanity, Dazai still can't help but see him as a human being.
Also I am aware that Dazai literally said he detests Chuuya here but he also sighed and laughed while stating this, showing us that he isn't being serious about hating him.
And its not only in stormbringer were he shows his concern towards Chuuya. In fact, in this following manga pannel Dazai is telling Chuuya that if he is willing to listen him, he will stage his own escape so that Chuuya doesn't get punnished.
Tumblr media
Honestly, if Dazai didn't care enough for Chuuya, he wouldn't have mentioned this to him. Chuuya didn't care enough to realize that he literally unwillingly freed Dazai which would get the pm mad at him, so the fact that Dazai is literally helping him out is no doubt out of care for him. If Dazai didn't have any regard for Chuuya he would've not staged his escape or mentioned anything to Chuuya, eventually incriminating him.
There are many misconceptions when it comes to Dazai's feelings towards Chuuya, people think that he doesn't care for him due to the fact that he left the Port Mafia, leaving Chuuya behind. But heres the thing: Dazai's intentions had nothing to do with Chuuya. He left the organization for his own good, he left it to fullfill Oda's wish.
"If Dazai cared for Chuuya then why didn't he take Chuuya with him?" the reason is simple, he knows how much the PM means to Chuuya. In stormbringer it is shown that Chuuya feels as if his humanity is attached to the people he is loyal to, in this case its the port mafia. Verlaine wanted to get rid of the pm because he believed that the pm is what kept Chuuya's humanity, eventually making Chuuya believe that he is only human if he stays loyal to the pm. Dazai knows this. Thats exactly why he didn't take Chuuya with him or even explains to Chuuya why he left, he knows it would be selfish to basically rip Chuuya's sense of humanity apart.
I have a feeling that if Dazai told Chuuya about the real reason he left the Port Mafia, Chuuya will not only feel conflicted about being in the pm, but he would also have an inner conflict with himself as a human.
People also think Dazai may not really care for him because of the fact that after the fight against Lovecraft he actualy deserted him, maybe that part was truly just supposed to be seen as simple humor, but either way I want to talk about it. Chuuya's only request to Dazai was to take him back to base safe, so why did Dazai leave Chuuya behind?
I mean he has carried Chuuya back to saftey before with no problem, for example in stormbringer when Chuuya uses corruption for the first time Dazai carries him back to the billiards bar and not to the mafia’s base so that he could say goodbye to his passing friends.
The reson behind this is because Mori needs to know that unlike Dazai, Chuuya is absolutely loyal to him. Leaving Chuuya the way he did will make Mori believe that these two really are at each others throats and that Dazai is insignificant to Chuuya. Making it seem that for Chuuya, the mafia comes first before anything else.
Therefore Dazai established Chuuya's saftey within the mafia since not only does Mori want these two to be hostile with each other, he doesn't want Chuuya to eventually turn against him if he truly found out more about Dazai's true reason of departure. Then again, this isn't canon but it is a logical assumption.
Not to mention that although Dazai did leave him behind, he folded Chuuya's coat and hat before taking his leave. There is also an an extra chapter where Ozaki Kouyou was talking with Chuuya but when he left he forgot his coat, which made Kouyou came across the coat; where she noticed a badge sewed inside saying "Name: Hatrack", she smiled fondly thinking to herself that some things just never change, in this case, Dazai and Chuuya's bond.
Tumblr media
Dazai literally took his time to sew this into his coat just to tease him, it was a simple gesture but it shows us how their dynamic will never change. No matter what these two go through, they will always share a bond that consists on teasing, trust and underlying care.
All of this actually makes that theory of Dazai planting a bomb under Chuuya's car for the sole reason that the PM doesn't find Chuuya as an acomplice who aided Dazai on his escape much more feasable.
For Dazai to just plant a bomb under Chuuya's car with no motive makes no sense because if Dazai's true intentions were to simply mess with Chuuya, he would've most likely made it clear at that time. Dazai always has an underlying motive behind his actions, and in this case it is very likely that he did that for Chuuya's sake.
Don't get me wrong, I am aware that the bomb incident could've just been a comedic moment and I shouldn't look too much into it, but there is still a posibility, right?
These two hold so much trust and care for one another, yet they also hold a lot of bitterness and resentment. In the end the good aspects of their dynamic outweighs the bad.
Either you see these two in a platonic or romantic way, you can't tell me that their bond isn't significant.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for reading!! I wanted to talk about this for a while because I feel like people misinterpret Dazai's feelings towards Chuuya a lot so I hope this clears up things a bit<3

Note
hello, hamliet! have you read the newest bsd chapter? if so, what are your thoughts? i enjoying reading your analyses :)
Yup yup yup. Chuuya! It's been 84 years! And he's vamped!
Tumblr media
But I think it's a great team up with lots of character growth and thematic potential. I'm not worried about anyone dying (permanently).
Anyways, the current chapter has a ton of thematic and character set up around the theme of fathers and children (if Asagiri is gonna reference Turgenev, a Russian contemporary of Dostoyevsky's best known for his book Fathers and Sons/Parents and Children, this is how). It also offers Dazai specific challenges in facing the worst and best parts of himself.
Firstly, let's talk Sigma. Sigma is a massive foil to Atsushi, Akutagawa, and Q. They are kids (coded as anyways) and are paying for their mentors' mistakes and wishes. Akutagawa literally died/got vamped to Atsushi just to please Dazai, Atsushi is scared and alone, Q is probably vamped and has been locked up by a mafia that hates and resents him yet craves his power, and Sigma is at the mercy of Fyodor and Gogol.
Like, this scene and dialogue could well be Atsushi or Akutagawa:
Tumblr media
I've also talked previously about how Sigma's half/half design is a callback to Q and specifically to how Q's been treated by Chuuya and Dazai. Now Sigma's in that same position except his soukoku are Fyodor and Gogol. And Sigma's making it canon text that he just wants to live, to live freely, and to have a home, which is something Akutagawa and Q can't do in the mafia, and something Atsushi needs to learn:
Tumblr media
When desperate for a home, kids will do anything.
The framing of the chapter is also interesting and powerful. The scenes inside the prison are intercut with those of a child (Aya) literally running with a newly rescued adult (Bram) on her back, trying to save him despite him being, y'know, older and kind of the cause of this. I say kind of because, as usual in BSD, there's nuance. Bram himself doesn't have much of a choice, and is a prisoner himself.
Of course, this parallels Bram with Dazai and Fyodor (literally prisoners), and Chuuya (a vamp). Beyond the surface, these three--Dazai, Fyodor, and Chuuya--are prisoners of other circumstances: Dazai is still not willing to face fully what his abandonment did to Akutagawa, Fyodor's ability presumably imprisons him from human contact, and Chuuya is still taking orders from someone who is the antithesis of who Chuuya wants to be (Mori).
The point of these parallels and these foilings is that Dazai, moving forward, needs to step it up as an adult. His role is to be the mentor and save the kids he is responsible for: literally Sigma here, but also then Atsushi, Akutagawa, and Q. That's always been the endgame of his arc.
It's also symbolic that Bram tries to pull the typical mentor route in a story: leave me! I'll sacrifice myself! (also what Oda did with the deconstruction of the noble death of a mentor inspiring the mentee to change his life, except Oda's was even more directly coded as a suicide because it wasn't even for Dazai or for his orphans; it was in futile revenge). The story responds to Bram with lulz nice try.
Tumblr media
What happens then? The symbol of home, of safety and belonging and purpose, in the series, swoops in to save both Bram and Aya. And again, notably, it's the literal child of the ADA: Kenji.
Tumblr media
Dazai now has to face Chuuya as well, and realize what's happened to him and to Akutagawa. Chuuya has always been a direct foil of Dazai's: Chuuya is motivated by his colleagues and human connections, while Dazai is... not so much. Now, Chuuya is motivated by nothing other than bloodlust and is being controlled like a puppet by Fyodor. It's almost like this should make Dazai realize what is good about Chuuya, and what he himself (Dazai) is like at his very worst: bloodlusty and supposedly really selfish, but also really controlled by other things.
I wrote previously that:
The answer of course to Chuuya’s quest for self-knowledge (which is not over) isn’t in Arahabaki’s origins or the origins of ‘Chuuya Nakahara,’ but in Dazai Osamu. Chuuya wants to understand himself as a human, and seeing someone born with it be so cavalier about his humanity and his life bothers him, especially because Chuuya clearly does care about Dazai.
This is true in the inverse, for Dazai, as well. He needs to see himself in Chuuya's vamped form and be motivated by connection to end this, to end the curse.
Also: two chapters left until craziness! I suspect Asagiri's been dragging this arc out to hit a particular point on chapter 100 (much like Isayama in Attack on Titan dragged out the Marley Arc to get to Eren's destruction reveal in chapter 100).

Text
So my dear friend @kittytudor and I were discussing some takes the fandom has on Dazai and especially his interactions with Mori and I thought I’d share
Tumblr media
I really hate the train of thought that goes like “they’re super smart so they know life has no meaning and nothing matters” like that’s cynical for no reason whatsoever and just nihilistic
Yea when you are intelligent you see all the bad in the world and feel like you’re powerless to stop it a lot of times but the things is
You know scientists see beauty in everything geologist will get excited about literal dirt a marine biologist about a gold fish. When you’re intelligent you see all the bad but also all the good
However it’s easier to see the bad and often times it clouds your view but part of the healing process is starting to see beauty and happiness in the smallest things and I think that’s a journey Dazai is slowly going on.
So I really don’t think intelligence is the issue here and I’m gonna assume you’re an edgy bastard if you say so
I feel like Dazai’s issue is more the environment than anything and the lack of meaningful relationships. I know we clown the scene where he says actually living is okay now 1 day after meeting Chuuya but here is the thing. This might have been the first time he had someone his age who wanted to hang out with him or even less just someone his age who tolerated him. I personally know nothing about his life pre mafia but you can assume it wasn’t a good life if at age 14 you decide the bloody mafia is preferable to wherever you’re at at the moment
In my opinion Mori didn’t encourage it per se but he didn’t try to stop it either I really think that for him he did not expect Dazai would go through with it (again) and /or as cruel as it sounds if he actually did it which Mori didn’t think was likely he had one less rival to worry about but I really think that’s Mori’s reasoning for staying “neutral” for lack of a better word on this issue
That being said I’m sure being surrounded by death and suffering did not do any good for an already depressed 14/15yo
Tumblr media
Which leads me to the second point. I really don’t think Mori expected Dazai to leave or tried to make him leave. For Mori Dazai was a powerful asset because of his ability and because of his intelligence that y’all are obsessed with. So why would you want to push that person away and it’s not like he was encouraging him to suicide here which would make much more sense than wanting him to leave.
And I have evidence
I’m gonna start it with: Oda did not die to set an example I don’t think so no. In his conversation with Chuuya he said something like “being a leader means making sacrifices for the well being of the group” or something like that and that’s what he did here.
He sacrifices Oda to get the permit.
The strange thing is I do think Mori meant what he said to Chuuya that he is a leader but also a servant to the mafia he wants the mafia to gain more power and that’s why he did what he did to get the permit.
I do think it could be a lesson to Dazai but not in the “if you cross me this is gonna happen to you” because Oda didn’t cross him Oda didn’t want power he is the last person who was interested in that. I think if anything it was more a lesson as in “when you take over this is something you’ll have to do and I’m showing you how it’s done”
Evidence for that is he was chuckling when he mentioned that possibility that Dazai would kill him and take one someday. And I agree that Mori
Wouldn’t mind if that was better for the Mafia. Like he wouldn’t make it easy for him and he wouldn’t give up but if he is defeated he wouldn’t be angry or annoyed because like I mentioned above I do think he was genuine when he said he is also a servant to the Mafia
My other piece of evidence is that when he showed Dazai the permit he seemed proud of what he’s done. The way he presented it and the entire scenario he seemed proud more than smug. If he really wanted Dazai out I feel like he would’ve been more smug about the whole thing and we know he can do that well.
And obviously there is also the fact he offered him not once but twice to come back. And what’s interesting is that the first time the offer was secret like he sent Gin and Higuchi and it was in a shady ass tunnel
Now the other time is where it gets interesting because it was very public in front of Dazai’s colleagues the black lizard and Fukuzawa.
Tumblr media
Now Mori is a smart guy but also he has a sense of pride as we learned so I really don’t think he would risk being humiliated in front of Fukuzawa of all people just to mess with Dazai and he seemed genuinely surprised when Dazai said “you kicked me” and he didn’t offer him to just come back no he offered to be back as an executive and having Dazai decline and clown him in front of Fukuzawa like that I don’t think he would risk that if he was just playing
The thing is Mori is smart but he has tunnel vision in my opinion. He was so focused on getting the permit he forgot that this plan has consequences that aren’t just “we get the permit”
And also one of Mori’s issues is that he never takes into consideration people’s emotions. You can predict human Behavior to a certain degree a lot of times you can know what to
Say or what to do to get a certain result but the thing is humans aren’t algorithms they don’t always operate on logic they have emotions. And these emotions can be so strong that they override any crumb of logic left which is something I think Mori fails to understand. That’s why he didn’t expect Dazai to leave he forgot about the emotional factor.
That’s what Mori lacks but Dazai has and my evidence for this is a scenario we laughed at because it was presented in a funny way but I think that’s something that shows that Dazai is better at this 4D chess game than Mori.
On the Moby Dick he knew that Akutagawa would abandon everything to talk to him. If Dazai only operates by thinking about logical Behavior he wouldn’t have told Atsushi to do this but he realises that the emotional factor is one of the strongest drives humans have.
Tumblr media
And you know I think Mori knows that when it comes to 4D chess Dazai would defeat him but he doesn’t mind that he isn’t scared of that. In dead Apple he couldn’t have possibly known the whole business with the pill but he told Chuuya to interfere. Mori has a strange sense of trust towards Dazai even now that they’re part of different sides.
I think Mori is has always been aware that although he says he does Dazai doesn’t actually want to die and I think the scene with the hyper and hypo tension medication in 15 shows this. If you actually want to die why would you Mix medicine with effects that cancel out each other and Mori is a doctor he knows this. That’s why I think he didn’t expect Dazai to commit and that he believes Dazai actually wants to live and because of that he will try and preserve himself and by extension Yokohama which is why he told Chuuya to go in dead apple, which is why he let Akutagawa go on the Moby Dick in season 2 because he realized Dazai wanted him to go there and he trusts Dazai to a certain degree .
I really feel like his underestimated the emotional factor and this will ultimately lead to his downfall. Like he didn’t expect Dazai to leave he wouldn’t expect anyone to react super emotional to god knows what he’ll do and thereby underestimate their response to that which will make him meet his end.
I don’t think the “you kicked me” is Dazai in denial he acted ok emotions or at least that’s not the whole thing. I think that Dazai’s reasoning for saying that is this:
Oda died so Mori can get more power which was part of Mori’s plan all along so looking at the bigger picture it was Mori’s plan and actions who drove me out of the Mafia so he basically “kicked me out”
Also I wanna add that I feel like Mori because he underestimates the emotional factor he doesn’t understand to this day why Dazai left like he knows it’s related to oda he can follow that train of events but in his mind it doesn’t make logical sense why Dazai would do that which is why he didn’t manage to win Dazai over back to The Mafia because in his mind be doesn’t know the logical reason why Dazai left which is also another reason why he was so surprised when Dazai said he kicked him
Also I’d like to add that I really don’t think he felt threatened or wanted to just get rid of him
Dazai was already suicidal so if it would very easy to make it look like that. And like I mentioned before if it was the best choice for the Mafia I really don’t think Mori would be that bothered about being replaced by Dazai.
I also don’t think he thought Dazai would be more useful on the outside because once again why lose a valuable addition like that
And it’s not like
He wanted to use him
As a spy or anything we know that would’ve been arranged differently see Ango
So Mori the logical guy he is wouldn’t want his enemies to have someone with Dazai’s ability because that’s a pain in the ass and also
He wouldn’t want an insider like Dazai to join his enemies and spill all his secrets. Dazai had a very high rank and like I said I don’t think Mori expected him to leave so he had no reason to hide things from
him so even without his ability he would be a very strong asset to the Mafias enemies so there is no way Mori would think he is more useful on the outside since
1. we already said mori has tunnel vision he couldn’t possibly predict that much that he thinks Dazai is better out
2. We established that he isn’t afraid of him
3. He wouldn’t want the ability and the information to fall into his enemies’ hands
4. If he was actually scared and wanted to get rid of him making it seem like suicide or actually driving him to suicide would be much easier especially since mori is a doctor
Tumblr media
So yeah this is long thanks if you read until the end it was super fun to write this id love to know what others think I’m sorry if it’s a bit unorganised it’s copied from my notes app

Dazai - The Book - Double Black
Dazai couldn't remember being a child, one of elementary age. He had only started to remember when he was around 14, which was when he first met Mori.
Sometimes, he wondered if he should be searching for answers, of who his parents could've been or where he came from, but he had easily moved on. Perhaps too easily, but he had no regrets. After all, the past didn't define him. He could write his own story from the present.
Only after words started to be written on his pale skin did he start to wonder who he really was.
Long sleeves could suffice, but just in case, Dazai wrapped bandages around his arms. Then his torso. Then up to his neck and finally his eye to give the air of an injury. The words hadn't spread quite that much, but it made his stomach crawl whenever he saw the squiggly lines all over his body. It was simply a precaution in case more words suddenly appeared.
Dazai soon met Chuuya, who was loud and angry and short, which made it even funnier when Dazai riled him up. Chuuya insisted that he was still young and growing. For the first time, Dazai wanted to laugh at the words he had seen yesterday on his elbow. Chuuya will never grow.
Although the words brought occasional joy, when he was 18, he saw words on the back of his left arm that said, Sakunosuke Oda will die. Sakunosuke couldn't die. His ability allowed him to see things moments before they actually happened, and Sakunosuke wasn't dumb. He would be fine.
He never had allowed the words on his arms and body to ever affect him. Words, in general, had never affected him since Dazai believed actions could speak much more.
"Be on the side that saves people. If both sides are the same, then choose to become a good person. Save the weak, protect the orphaned. You might not see a great difference between right and wrong, but... saving others is something just a bit wonderful."
For once, he took the words to heart.
Once, long ago when he was still young, not in the Detective Agency nor even the Mafia, Dazai had written something on his arm, something that tattooed itself to his arm for just a second before it burned away with terrible pain.
Dazai experimented. His ability, "No Longer Human", obviously canceled out abilities with no exception. The words were things to happen, things that were happening, and things that had happened. The timing for when the events actually took place differed, from as small as a minute to as long as a year. Dazai couldn't change events that were going to happen or create an entirely new one. It was probably a strange mix of the words and his ability.
Dazai had considered going to the President to inform him of the words. He was fairly sure that everyone else in the agency believed the bandages to be a fashion choice, excluding Ranpo and the President. He walked in front of the office door for a few minutes, pacing, before walking back to his desk. Perhaps the talk could be moved to another time.
The words were often too ugly to be shown to others.
Dazai was good at planning things, which made it entirely his fault that he hadn't prepared ahead for this.
A few days ago words had appeared on his collarbone, ones that said, "Chuuya will unleash Arahabaki once more. Secrets will be revealed." If Chuuya was going to showcase his powers, Dazai would no doubt be sent along unless Chuuya had managed to somehow subdue his powers effectively. Sure enough, he was sent to settle a dispute that would benefit both the Mafia and the Agency. It was always nice, seeing the top of Chuuya's hat, showing that he had indeed not grown a single bit.
He had misinterpreted the "secrets" on his arm. Dazai had expected it to be Chuuya's secrets, of how he stayed so short all the time.
In Arahabaki form, Chuuya had never attacked Dazai, at least not to kill. He had to have some semblance of control to not kill the only person that could bring him back, even if Chuuya hated him. But this time, right after defeating the enemy, Chuuya turned on him in an instant, giving Dazai no time to nullify his ability.
It would have been fine. Dazai only took a few hard hits before he tapped Chuuya on the head, nullifying his ability. They both staggered for a moment before Dazai laughed.
"Well, that was awfully close wasn't it, Chuuya?"
Chuuya huffed, angry but too tired to anything about it.
"Only if you had touched me a little earlier maybe you - hey what's that on your arm?"
Dazai froze before he looked at his left arm, bandages slightly unraveled, revealing the inky text on his arm.
"Some tattoo shit? Or maybe weird scars..."
Chuuya took a step forward while Dazai hurriedly rebandaged his arm with a hopefully winning grin.
"How observant of you."
Chuuya scowled for a second before staring at Dazai.
"Seriously, was it just some weirdo tattoo? Show me what you have written there."
Dazai made a mental note to seriously work out and train with Kunikida. Then again, it probably wouldn't bring him near Chuuya's level for a long time. Even after using Arahabaki, Chuuya stomped forward, grabbing his arm and unwrapping the bandage with unreasonable strength and speed. His control must have actually been getting better. Or maybe they had just defeated the enemy faster today.
"What the - what the heck is this Dazai?"
He didn't have the strength to stand properly, staggering a little bit while unsuccessfully trying to get out of Chuuya's iron grip.
"An occult tattoo I got when I was 14. It says 'fuck off Chuuya'."
"It literally says 'Sakunosuke Oda will die'. I've heard of that name before... who was that again?"
Out of all the sentences Chuuya could have seen, it had to be that one. Why not the one about Atsushi dropping his ice cream, or maybe the one about Chuuya's height? They could have laughed over that.
"This actually happened didn't it Dazai? Like, a few years ago?"
At this point, Dazai simply didn't care enough to wrench his wrist away from Chuuya. He had wanted to tell someone about this for so long. Chuuya and he didn't have the best relationship, but they could certainly trust each other. After all, they had been partners, right?
"It tells me things that are going to happen. Well, at the time of course. This already happened a while ago."
Chuuya simply stared, unsure of what to believe.
"I tried changing history once. It hurt really bad, I think it's got something to do with my goddamn ability, I hate seeing the words every day and having to bandage them - "
"Um... Dazai, calm down."
He hadn't realized he was breathing so heavily. His chest felt like it was burning.
It felt like it was burning just like when he was young - why was it like this when he hadn't written anything down on his skin?
"Dazai, what's going on?"
Dazai turned away from Chuuya before throwing his jacket off, then his vest, then his shirt to reveal the mass of bandages covering every inch of his skin.
"What the fuck Dazai, stop stripping in front of me - "
Dazai for once ignored Chuuya instead of sending back an angry retort. He unwrapped the bandages, not caring if Chuuya saw the words or not since the pain was burning as if he was dying and he wanted it to just stop. Stop stop stop.
The bandages were off to show the mass of writing on his back and arms and stomach and even up to his neck. Chuuya's breathing became softer, more confused and curious.
Chuuya will never grow.
Dazai will trip and fall on the doormat before meeting Akutagawa for the first time.
Sakunosuke Oda will die.
Atsushi will drop the ice cream Dazai bought for him and will be horrified.
More evil will soon come in Yokohama.
Chuuya will unleash Arahabaki once more. Secrets will be revealed.
Chuuya simply stared, dumbfounded, trying to read everything written on Dazai's back. Dazai on the other hand, looked down at the center of his chest to see just a few words.
Yokohama's Page - By Osamu Dazai.
The words were a gleaming gold, burning his skin before suddenly cooling into the familiar black, only a small golden border on the edges of each letter. Chuuya had now walked in front of him, kneeling, reading the words that had just appeared.
"So. You're some special shit."
Dazai let out a flat laugh. Indeed he was.
"It says 'More evil will soon come in Yokohama'. Right, Dazai?"
Dazai nodded blindly. He couldn't remember that one, but maybe it was because it was on his back. It was hard to read from a mirror.
"You should tell your agency this. Have you told them?"
Dazai's silence was the same as a confirmation. Chuuya mumbled something about how he always had to make his life worse, although Dazai knew that it was halfhearted.
After Dazai put on every single one of his bandages, thoroughly covering every inch of skin along with his other clothes, Chuuya and he walked in silence for a little. Usually, they would've been arguing all the way back, making the silence feel even worse.
"Oy. Dazai."
Chuuya growled when Dazai didn't make any move to answer before sighing and backing down. Dazai blinked, seeing that for the first time, Chuuya had backed down from an argument.
"We were partners before. Are we still partners?"
Dazai smiled.
"If we're partners, I'll be annoying you all day! I think that'd be pretty nice ~ "
"Well fuck you too!"
It was nice, feeling the usual annoyance flowing through Chuuya, the same remarks they always passed forth to each other.
"So you're saying we are partners, Dazai."
Dazai's eyes narrowed. What was with Chuuya being overly... nice all of a sudden? Being so calm?
Chuuya, catching Dazai's eyes screeched again before kicking over a trash can.
"I'm saying I can help you with this goddamn book shit! Words! Partners! The fuck is wrong with you?"
Dazai stared as Chuuya knocked over a few more trash cans while screaming about how utterly dumb Dazai could be for someone that was supposed to be so smart, so crafty, and so manipulative.
The familiar tickle of more words caused Dazai to flinch, hand moving toward his neck where the words seemed to be. Chuuya, who was done with his little fit, stopped for a second before walking over, no doubt intrigued. Dazai tugged the bandages down a little bit while Chuuya read the words out loud.
"Fyodor Dostoevsky is looking for another part of the book in Yokohama."
Dazai's eyes widened when he heard the name, and Chuuya no doubt understood that this man was someone dangerous if they could elicit such a reaction from Dazai. They looked at each other, understanding passing through their eyes.
"Well, I guess we're partners again Chuuya!"
"Only because I fucking have to!"
Dazai supposed that he would also have to tell the Agency about this. And as more people knew, the news would inevitably spread to the Mafia too. He only had to make sure that Fyodor didn't receive the information, and that was if Fyodor didn't already know about him.
"Fucking Dazai."
Chuuya grabbed Dazai's hair and pulled, forcing Dazai to yelp while batting Chuuya's hands away.
"We're going to crush this bastard Fyodor."
Dazai laughed at the sheer amount of determination in Chuuya's name, laughing like he never had ever before.
Indeed, Double Black would crush the enemy like they always did.

Kunikida + Oda: Death of a Good Man
Tumblr media
While Kunikida and Oda have never met in canon they are characters with a lot in common. They both essentially play the same role, as the moral center of their respective groups (particularly acting as a conscience for Dazai). They both share the same strengths and weaknesses. However, one lives and one dies. MORE UNDER THE CUT.
1. Relationship with Dazai
Dazai is a character who has trouble seeing himself as a person. That is, he doesn’t see himself as the same as everyone else. (His ability is titled No Longer Human, surprise, surprise). Oda says as much to Dazai, that traditional values like good or evil don’t really mean that much to him.
“Whether you’re on the side that takes lives, or the side that saves them nothing beyond your own expectations will happen. Nothing in this world can fill the hole that is your loneliness. You will wander for eternity.”
...
“Be on the side that saves people. If both sides are the same, then choose to be a good person.” - Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era
It’s not that Dazai is a sociopath, or even unfeeling, it’s just that he is so distanced from his own humanity, and from other people. He genuinely believes he can’t feel the same way as they do. Dazai even described the way he saw himself to Fyodor.
Tumblr media
Dazai tells Fyodor that he feels like he’s sperate from everyone else. It’s like he’s the player, and everybody else is pieces on the game board. But, even though he might come up with strategies and move the pieces, he’s not really the one changing things, or affecting other people’s lives because he’s not right there in the middle of things he’s far away.
Tumblr media
Dazai even flashes back to Oda and Gide’s final showdown when trying to explain this feeling to Fyodor. Oda his closest and only friend at the time, who he could not reach out to and save. Dazai believes he can’t touch other people, he can’t reach out and save them, because he sees himself as lacking in feelings or a heart. Which is why, Dazai relies on the people around him. Dazai attached himself to Oda when he was in the Mafia, and then again to Kunikida when he was detective agency to essentially act as his heart, his external conscience for him. That’s the relationship he shares with both of them. It’s why the first two light novels are essentially about Dazai, but narrated from the point of view of his partner at the time. Light novel one is about his partnership with Kunikida, and Light Novel 2 is about his friendship with Oda back in the dark age. The connection between them is that both Oda, and Kunikida are good, just men who have tried to understand Dazai in one way or another.
The events of both light novels even mirror each other to an extent. Entrance exam is about Dazai joining the agency, Dark Era is about Dazai leaving the mafia. Entrance exam is about Kunikida failing to understand Dazai, but learning to trust him anyway. Dark Era is about Oda being the only one who fully understands Dazai, but then not listening to him at the end of the story. They both end with a symbolic death, Oda commits double suicide with Gide, whereas Kunikida pretends to shoot Dazai in order to follow his plan.
Tumblr media
Dazai’s a master strategist, but he’s not a leader of men, nor does he have any particular ideals he stands for. Dazai was given a position of leadership within the port mafia, and not only did he spend the entire time tormenting his closest subordinate but he didn’t care about the lives of his subordinates the way Chuuya does.
Dazai sees Kunikida as someone having the ideals he does not have, therefore doing what he cannot, and being what he cannot be to others. This is a role Oda used to serve as his one and only friend. However, while they occupy the same spot as Dazai’s most trusted person their relationships with him are very different.
Kunikida is very combative with Dazai and always fighting against him. He personally expects Dazai to be better in all aspects. He scolds him for being lazy and neglecting his work. When Dazai messes with other people or manipulates them, it’s Kunikida who is the first to get frustrated with him. Kunikida also, tends to lack a fundamental understanding of Dazai. It’s a running joke that he’s always a step behind him (he’s the last person to find out Dazai was a mafia member when everyone else already knew). The literal first thing established about their relationship in the first chapter, is that they are constantly fighting with each other. They barely make it through a dinner with Atsushi.
Tumblr media
However, Kunikida also listens to Dazai when it’s important. It’s the other way around with Oda, Oda is someone who does fundamentally understand who Dazai really is deep down. However, at the same time Oda doesn’t really try to exert any influence over Dazai until the very end of his life. Their relationship was defined by being distant to one another, and not asking questions.
The reason why Ango and I were able to be by his side was that we understood the solitude that surrounded him, and we never stepped inside it no matter how close we stood.
But in that moment, I kind of regretted not stepping in and invading that solitude.
Dazai Osamu and the Dark Era.
Him, Ango and Dazai could only keep meeting as the Buraiha at the Lupin bar if they pretended to not know anything about what each other did outside of the bar. They’re different in one main aspect, Kunikida fights Dazai, and Oda doesn’t start fighting until it’s almost far too late.
2. Living and Dying for One’s Ideals
One more direct parallel between the two is that Kunikida and Oda are both characters who strive to live up to the ideal they find in a book. Literally. Kunikida obsessively writes out his ideals in his notebook where he has his whole future planned out.
What are ideals? There are innumerable answers to that question. One could say it’s merely a term, or an idea, or perhaps even the soruce of all meaning. But if you ask me, the answer is obvious. It’s the word written on the cover of my notebook.  My notebook has all the answers. It is my creed, my master, and a prophet that guides me. At times, it can either be a weapon ro a solution. Ideals. Everything I am is written in this notebook which I always carry with me. My entire future lies within it - Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exam
Oda picked up a book and loved it so much he wanted to write the ending for himself.
After worrying about it for so long, I came to one conclusion.  “Then you write what happens next.” I decided to write about it myself. I would become a novelist, and write a story about why the man stopped killing. But to become a novelist, I needed to sincerely know what it meant to live. So, I stopped killing. -   Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era.
Kunikida and Oda are both characters who find their will to live for the future within the pages of a book. Which makes sense as both characters struggle with lofty ideals and a harsh reality. Oda and Kunikida are characters written about the struggle to be a good man, in a world that is not good. To hold ideals, in a world that is not ideal. This once again ties back to what Dazai said to Fyodor, God isn’t perfect harmony, he’s illogical and absurd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The world isn’t ideal and orderly. It’s extremely, extremely messy. Kunikida and Oda are both characters who strive to be better, and want the world to be better and because of that they fall into conflict. However, Oda lost his fight, and Kunikida is still fighting. Part of why Dazai got so attached to Kunikida is also because he saw Oda’s ideals within Kunikida, and knew that carrying those ideals could crush him so easily.
“Justice is a weapon. It can be used to harm, but it cannot protect and save others.”  -Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exams
The meanings of Dazai’s words are clear when you look at them in the context of what he learned after losing Oda. Oda decided to throw his life away to avenge the children after Gide. He achieved justice then. However, nobody was saved. The children were already dead. Oda himself wasn’t saved. Dazai lost his only friend.
“Something?” I looked at Dazai. “There isn’t anything, Dazai. It’s all over. Everything. Whatever else happens now is meaningless - just like I’m about to do. AM I wrong?”  “Odasaku...” Dazai said softly. “Forgive me for the absurd wording but - don’t go. Find something to rely on. Expect good things to happen from here on out. There’s gotta be soemthing...”
[...]
Oda’s march against Gide isn’t just tragic, it’s a deliberate choice. It was a suiide. He’s given several oppurtunities to just walk away, or wait for something else to give him a reason to live and he doesn’t. His final actions hurt more than they helped. Yes, he did save Dazai in a way by throwing his life away, but Dazai also lost the person who could understand him. Oda could have lived. He could have done more if he had lived. Dazai even says so in dead apple, saving people is the more beautiful path, but you have to be alive to see that beauty.
Tumblr media
This is also why Kunikida and Oda have such a connection to Dazai. Underneath their struggles to be a good man they are both constantly dealing with suicidal feelings.
Kunikida is far more fragile than he lets on. Part of the reason he attaches himself to ideals rather than people, is because caring about people hurts, and he is so afraid of failing the people in his life (the same way Oda eventually failed to protect the children) that he can’t admit the depth to which he cares about them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kunikida struggles to save everyone in front of him, but that’s also because Kunikida is internally someone who is very fragile. He can’t handle the loss, especially losing those he is close to. When Atsushi is hospitalized after his first fight with Akutagawa, he pretends to be unconcerned. When Atsushi wants to save Kyoka, Kunikida tries to persuade him to not save her. Oda and Kunikida are both avoidant characters, Oda avoided ever stepping inside of Dazai’s loneliness, and Kunikida avoids getting close to others because they fear the people they cannot save. Kunikida cares so much and so deeply, that he’s completely shattered when he fails someone.
Tumblr media
Every strategy by the detective agency’s enemies relies on crushing Kunikida because he’s the easiest target. When he fails like this he wants to give up. Kunikida and Oda have this dark underside to their actions where they’re fighting continually to be better, but when they fail, they long to throw their lives away and give up the struggle.
Tumblr media
Part of the reason they’re attracted to Dazai is deep down Kunikida and Oda both have the same suicidal feelings. Kunikida knows that his ideals will never live up to the reality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, secretly he longs to fail so he won’t have to struggle against it anymore.
“I let go of Dazai. I understand what he’s aying. Perhaps righteousness isn’t something you seek in others, but something you search for inside of yourself. Even then... Miss Sasaki is dead, and so is Rokuzo.  All I’ve found in my search for righteousness within myself is a sense of hopelessness.”
Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exam
The question is can you continue to live? Even if you fail over and over again to do better. Even if the things you try to protect all die. Kunikida’s arc so far mirrors Oda’s. The things he told himself he would protect, he failed to. The promises he made, he breaks. He said he was never going to watch a child die in front of him, and then it happens.
Tumblr media
He said he was never going to fail to protect the agency again, but then the agency became the victims of the hunting dogs, and Kunikida had to go completely on the run. He said he was going to throw himself away in a big bang against the hunting dogs to show his ideals would never fail, and instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He even loses his ideals and his ability to write in the notebook. So, what is the difference between Kunikida and Oda that allows Kunikida to keep struggling where Oda did not. I think it’s not really a difference between them, so much as it’s a difference between Dazai. Dazai’s grown since then and realized his mistakes with Oda, and because of that doesn’t stay at a comfortable distance from Kunikida.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dazai has grown enough between then and now he’s able to reach people who feel similiarly to him. He understood the suicidal feelings of both Kunikida, and Oda, but he didn’t reach out to Oda until it was too late. However, Dazai has grown to the point where he not only understands Kunikida’s struggle and sympathizes with him, but he’s also able to say the words he couldn’t say to Oda until it was too late.
There’s no such thing as a point of no return. There is no point where everything is already over. Even if you fail to protect someone, even if you fail to protect everyone.
"Anything I would never want to lose will be lost. It is given that everything that is worth wanting will be lost the moment I obtain it. There's nothing worth pursuing at the cost of prolonging life of suffering."
Dazai is still the same person that said this. Deep down that’s what Kunikida and Oda both fear, that after Oda failed the orphans, that after Kunikida could not save an innocent child in front of them, that no matter how hard they fought all of their attempts to protect someone would fail that way. At which point their fighting seemed to become meaningless.
Dazai knowing those feelings has moved past that lament. He still believes that the struggle may be meaningless, but he reassures them that they can keep fighting anyway.
Tumblr media
If there’s no great glorious ideal to live for, if nothing we do matters, than all that matters is what we do. The world isn’t good, the world will never be as good as we want it to be, yet Kunikida can still strive to be good in the face of that.
