Summary: Cooper regrets letting his smoothskin keep the wasteland baby until he doesn't.

"Your goddamn beast keeps eatin' us outta house and home, Cowgirl," Cooper grumbles from behind you, and you roll your eyes from where you are feeding Dusty. The deathclaw had grown exponentially in the past month and now stood at your waist, his teeth past his lips and sharp horns as long as your finger. The baby was as fearsome as he was cute.

"I'm sure he'll be able to take care of himself soon," You comment to the ghoul and scratch the wasteland creature under the jaw. He purrs at you, foggy golden eyes half-lidded and full of affection for the human who had saved him.

Cooper scoffed and shook his head at your ridiculousness. He couldn't believe he had gone along with your dumb ass idea. The deathclaw had been nothing but a drain on their resources, and he was just about done with dealing with it.

Before he could reignite the month long argument, shots suddenly ring out, and the three of your dove for cover. Cooper grabs you by the pack and drags you behind an old car, pushing you down even as he rises to a half crouch and fires over the vehicle. He grins at the sound of one of the raiders screaming and ducks back down to reload his weapon.

You peak over the hood of the car, rifle in hand, and shoot out a woman's knee caps, watching gore and bone splatter behind her as she falls to the ground. Both of you are so caught up in the fight in front of you that neither see the fiend sneaking up on your right side. Someone else however, does.

The raider shrieks when Dusty jumps him, deadly, six inch claws slicing into their soft belly and spilling their guts to the floor. Dusty snarls as they go down, and the baby deathclaw unhinges his jaw to chop down on the raiders throat. He chokes down the flesh between his jaws and continues his feast as the fight continues behind him.

When the last raider is dead, and while you are picking over the fallen bodies for anything of use, Cooper leans against a nearby light pole and watches Dusty devour the raider still pinned under his claws. The ghoul rolls his eyes and grinds his teeth, annoyed at having been proved wrong.

"Alright," Cooper huffs your way, and you perk up, looking at him with raised brows, "You win. Little fucker saved your skin today."

He can stand the smug ass look you throw his way and looks away with a sneer. The ghoul heard the soft padding of footsteps and glared down at Dusty when the juvenile butted his head under Cooper’s palm, obviously demanding pets. He sighed and scratched at the base of a curved horn.

"Dumb little bastard."

(normal deathclaws: fallout 1-2-3-new Vegas)

Thies are the most common deathclaws found almost everywhere in the wastland. They live in large groups.

(furry deathclaws: fallout tactics: brotherhood of steel)

Furry deathclaws are deathclaws that live near Kansas or places in America with cold winters or weather the also live in groups, tho most think tactics is non cannon I would like to think it is.

(brute deathclaw: fallout 4-76)

Thies deathclaws are the heavily armored and more solitary deathclaw species preferring to be alone then in groups like furry or normal deathclaws.

I'm gonna be a hater for 5 seconds. Specifically about the fallout Amazon show.

I'm gonna say the most verbally violent thing possible in relations to Fallout.....I hope they fuck up the Deathclaws. I hope they get the design wrong, or they go so cheap on the CGI (because you know they aren't gonna do puppeteering or practical effects.) and the Deathclaws look like shit. I hope they make some horrible lore mistake about them and have that be a crucial plot point.

Because unless they do something like that, this show will make money and I hate it.

May I ask for another small fic thing? Specifically with Dusty the Deathclaw thinking of himself as Reader’s baby, mentally and physically. As in, he’ll want to cuddle up to them even when they can no longer sprawl across their lap like they used to cause he’s freaking MASSIVE. So either Cooper or Hancock find the Reader squished under Dusty, who’s just lying there content😂 Meanwhile the reader is asking them for help as they have to use the bathroom and lost feeling in their legs🤣

Masterlist

The older Dusty got, the bigger he grew, but that didn't mean that his mentally grew with him. He still considered you to be his human, his mother in all accounts but species. As a baby, you would cuddle him close in your lap, petting his growing horns and scratching his itchy chin. You were everything to the deathclaw. So it only made sense to him that he could continue to cuddle his mother still, even if he stood at a whopping ten foot tall, eleven if you counted his curved horns.

You sit on the pavement outside of Boston, enjoying the meager sunlight that shines through the thick, overcast sky. Dusty has his head in your lap, a rumbling purr echoing in the air from the beast as he shifts forward. The blunt curve of his horns presses into your chest, and you fall back with a grunt. Dusty takes his opportunity to shift even more of his weight on top of his mother, his purr so loud that it makes your ears ring.

"D-Dusty, please," you croak under the deathclaw. You had already needed to pee, and his weight made the situation a thousand times worse.

Cooper, who had wondered off to explore the nearby buildings, ambled back up the road, a whistle on his lips as he kicked a rock up the hill. When he gets to the top, he glances around, expecting to see you where he'd left you last. The ghoul frowned and glared down at Dusty, who looked far too innocent for his own good.

"Where'd she go?" Cooper demands, and Dusty just rumbles deep in his throat. He takes in the situation, and a slow smirk works its way onto his lips when he spots your shoes sticking out just under the beast.

Dusty watches Cooper waltz around him and then stares down at his mother from where she lays under him. A low whuffing sound escapes him, and his nose flairs. He wasn't about to move for him.

"Looks like you've got yourself in a pickle there, chief," Cooper drawls, and you glare up at the Ghoul. You grunt as you shove at Dusty, but the creature just whines and shifts so that he covers you even more, upset that you were trying to leave him.

"Nah, I'm fine," you sneer and collapse with a defeated huff, "I love having seven hundred pounds of muscle crush me."

"Guess you don't need my help then, huh?" Cooper quips and goes to walk away, his spurs jingling, only to stop when you call his name, tone pitiful and he turns around to see you giving him puppy dog eyes.

"Coop, please get him off of me?" You plead, "I've gotta pee, and my feet are asleep."

The ghoul gives you a once over and then looks at Dusty and just how comfortable the beast looks. The deathclaw coos down at you, and you grimace when a long tongue licks up the side of your face. You catch Cooper's grin and glare even harder, "Don't you dare."

"I think ol' Dusty is too comfortable for me to try and move him, Sweetheart," Coop snickers and turns on his heel again. You'd be just fine without him. Not a soul would touch you with Dusty there.

"I'll come back later to get ya, baby."

Cooper lopes away with the sound of a happy deathclaw and an outraged smoothskin echoing in his ears. Today'd been a good day.
