Denton Greenbelt Debacle Update
While my motivation is nearing its all-time low, a place I left it not so long ago for sweet Texas Gulf Coast salt, I still have a duty to report what tidbits come my way. And believe me, they are tidbits. FROM Robbie Merritt TPWD Lake Ray Roberts “We did receive word recently that our Inland Fisheries partner’s Fish Passage Grant did not make the cut for this year’s Federal Grant program. …

The Week That Was: Big Brother Finale, Maryland Basketball Upset, and the State of the Music IndustryThis week has been eventful in the world of entertainment, with the finale of the popular reality show Big Brother, a surprising upset in Maryland Basketball, and ongoing discussions about the state of the music industry. Let's take a closer look at these topics:Big Brother FinaleAfter months of drama, alliances, and unexpected twists, Big Brother is finally coming to an end this week. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the finale, which will determine the winner of the $500,000 prize. The show has been a rollercoaster of emotions, with contestants forming alliances, backstabbing each other, and strategizing to stay in the game. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top and how the season will be remembered.Maryland Basketball UpsetIn a shocking turn of events, the Maryland Basketball team suffered a defeat at the hands of Davidson in a close game this week. The loss came as a surprise to many fans and experts, as Maryland was considered a strong contender. Despite the setback, the team has shown resilience throughout the season and will undoubtedly bounce back from this defeat. It serves as a reminder that in sports, anything can happen, and no team is invincible. The State of the Music IndustryThe music industry has been a topic of discussion for years, with many artists and industry insiders expressing concerns about the impact of pay to play practices. Pay to play refers to the practice of artists or their representatives paying a fee to secure a spot on a concert lineup or to receive airplay on radio stations. This has led to concerns about the quality and diversity of music being promoted, as well as the financial burden placed on artists. While pay to play has been a longstanding issue, recent events have brought it back into the spotlight. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the music industry, with live shows and tours being canceled or postponed. This has put even more pressure on artists to find alternative ways to generate income and reach their audience.Being a Dead HeadOne of the most enduring fan communities in the music world is that of the Grateful Dead, known as Dead Heads. The Grateful Dead, with their unique blend of rock, folk, and improvisational music, have captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Being a Dead Head is more than just being a fan; it's a way of life. Dead Heads are known for their dedication, their love of live music, and their sense of community. Finally, let's not forget the upcoming Pollstar Awards nominations, which honor the best in the live entertainment industry. The nominations are eagerly awaited by artists, promoters, and fans alike, as they recognize excellence in concert tours, festivals, and venues. It's an exciting time for the industry, and we can't wait to see who will be recognized for their outstanding contributions.

Prices continue to rise even while interest rates hold near 4%.
Demand is overheated vs Supply. Supply takes years to correct.
Demand can be reduced with the stroke of a pen:
Simply reduce the immigration intake which has been supercharged over the past year and cancel visas for the half of the people who have arrived...
UNTIL this government and any that follows - have actually addressed the supply problem.
The immediate fix is not politically popular - but is the only way to address this issue in the near term.

Single Review: Debacle – Flashing Lights
Debacle are a New York City based seven piece outfit made up of Dan Gardner on Guitar, Brendon Gardner on Bass, Andrew Marden on Keyboard, Zach Cubias on Trumpet, Alan Norton on Trombone, Dylan Balsamo on Vocals and Marc Norton on Drums. Debacle originally emerged as a group of friends in the New Jersey Ska-Punk scene, but have since broadened and shifted their genre, allowing for a free flow of creativity and passion that informs all of their music. Today, I will be reviewing their single ‘Flashing Lights’ which was released on October 16th 2022.
‘Flashing Lights’ opens up with some fun, light vocal runs that merge with a jaunty melody that fleshes out as the track continues. I really like Dylan’s voice, it’s sharp and melodic, with enough range to meet both highs and lows. I like the energy of this track, the peaks and falls, the fast and slow, it’s a nice, well balanced track that’s really catchy and sticks in your head. I like how subtle the percussion is at times, people often think of drums as powerful, and imposing, but sometimes like this they can be used to create a nice audio texture and beat, without being overpowering.

Denton Greenbelt Sees No Greenbacks
The City of Denton was recently awarded an almost $11-million grant from Texas Department of Transportation. The question is: Why does the Denton Greenbelt waterway continue to be ignored as a recreational outlet, and a great one, for the City and County of Denton. And ALL OF IT for this one project alone? Let’s hire some more people, do some studies, and … it’ll be all gone. To me? It looks like…
