How do mutants in the Facility live?
Patreon Loredump. August 2023
One of the most frequent types of questions I get are about life in the Facility. So it seems like a good topic to start my loredumping series with!
Apologies in advance for all the photo examples, I hope they work fine for getting the vibes across.
Overview
Tumblr media
The facility dome is visible in the distance.
The facility in general – or, as it’s officially known, the Zh. I. Alferov National Institute of Anomalous Research – is a large structure located on the border of the Zone. Its most notable feature is the massive dome surrounded by an outside wall.
Tumblr media
The wall. In real life, the famous building of НИЦЭВТ.
The latter is a building in itself, containing offices, lecture halls, resting and dining quarters for researchers, as well as minor labs. All entrances are supervised, though not totally closed off to the public. Excursions, official meetings, TV reports – all of those happen within the wall.
But you will not find any mutants here. As you may have already guessed, all the major laboratories, anomalous artefacts, and, of course, mutants are housed in the dome. The entrances to the dome are monitored and equipped with anomaly scanners, allowing only authorised personnel and mutants to travel between its sectors.
Tumblr media
Mutants cannot traverse the facility unsupervised.
What is the mutant classification system?
Depending on their anomalous characteristics, cooperability and method of containment, mutants are sorted into types and numbered groups. Individual mutant numbers usually look like XT000-000.
Let’s use Dmitry as an example.
Tumblr media
Dima’s serial number is DT001-319.
The type constitutes the first part of the mutant’s number. Dima’s mutation is Directional Type, hence the letters DT at the start (for the record, KT stands for Kernel Type).
Next we have the 00X number. Mutants are assigned a 001, 002, 003 or 004 class depending on the potency and containability of their mutation – kinda like SCPs, yeah. Dima has a very powerful mutation he has good control over, plus he is sound of mind, making him suitable for 001 containment.
The last three digits are the overall number of the mutant within their type. So if Dima’s are 319, the facility has had 318 directional-type mutants on record prior to his arrival. This does not mean they were as powerful or had the same level of control over their telekinesis, just that they possessed a similar mutation to some extent.
How do different mutant classes live?
001
Tumblr media
001 quarters example. Not too different from a hospital or sanatorium
Subjects ranked as 001 are extremely powerful, have good control over their powers and are, most importantly, docile. Since their mutations are very potent and difficult to forcefully contain, the go-to approach is making them not want to leave.
001s spend most (if not all) of their conscious lives surrounded by doctors. The latter foster a particular mindset in their subjects, where the world outside is presented as a place that is unanimously hostile to mutants. This is done by means of propaganda, reminders about their family’s supposed mistreatment and, in case a mutant has some favourable recollections of their childhood, gaslighting. Additionally, subjects are never left alone with each other.
001s get very luxurious treatment by facility's standards, with much bigger, more comfortable rooms than other mutant types. They're even allowed to have gaming consoles, TVs with VHS and video players, and their own bookshelves. Each mutant has their own separate room, which is kept under constant camera surveillance with the toilet being the only blind spot.
Tumblr media
Special folders are issued to 001s before experiments with lower-ranked mutants.
Experiments held on 001s are relatively humane so as not to discourage them from staying at the facility. They do undergo daily checkups mostly designed to monitor their mental state. 001s are also active participants in experimentation on lower-ranked mutants, who they are taught and encouraged to treat as lesser beings.
001s are a high-risk investment, so their numbers are far smaller than those of 002 and 003-class mutants. Additionally, because of the potential danger they present, the institute is quick to dispose of 001 subjects by either termination or reclassification to 004. Though, if a 001 manages to stay cooperative long-term, they can become a very valuable asset for the facility.
002 and 003
Tumblr media
002 and 003 quarters example. Though, they’re typically not as well-kept
002 and 003 mutant classes can be grouped together, since their treatment is largely the same. Both of these types’ mutations are easy to forcibly contain. The difference is their danger levels. 003s require close monitoring to not be harmful to others, while 002s are borderline harmless. Both types are characterised by general cooperability.
002s live in wards for 2 to 4 people, while 003s are more commonly placed in single-person wards to prevent accidents. A standard room includes a bed, a desk and a small bathroom (multiple beds and two desks in bigger wards).
Tumblr media
KT got to take a dinosaur plushie to her room for good behaviour.
Mutants are allowed to borrow books from the library, as well as get drawing and writing materials. If they behave well, they can get a toy or even be lent a handheld console for a few days.
002s and 003s have breakfasts, lunches and dinners together, and can spend some time in the playroom with other mutants (that’s also where they can play computer games and watch TV) – all under very strict surveillance, of course.
In some ways, their treatment is much less cruel than that of the elite 001 subjects.
Tumblr media
KT before the DT experiment.
Though, not when it comes to experiments. 002s and 003s are very common, and are thus treated as disposable material in a scientific sense. The people holding experiments on them are a lot less concerned with minimising the subject’s pain or discomfort. Consequently, it’s not uncommon for mutants of these classes to sustain serious injuries or die as a result of experimentation.
That said, 002s have the highest likelihood of getting released from the facility, given they meet the conditions for it (more on that below).
004
Tumblr media
004 quarters example. Basically a prison bunker
004 is a special category reserved for powerful mutants that refuse or physically cannot cooperate. This number can also be issued as a temporary or permanent punishment to misbehaving mutants. The 004 quarters are located underground and have the highest level of security, acting as a sort of bunker for the most dangerous subjects the facility has.
004 rooms are even more barebones than those of 002 and 003s. They have no access to entertainment (unless it is somehow required to contain their mutation) and cannot leave their room under any circumstances. They are more weapons than test subjects.
Do mutants receive education?
All mutants from class 003 and above receive basic education, learning to read, write and count. They additionally get curated history and sociology lessons. Some mutants, namely 001s, attend mandatory classes in certain disciplines to better apply their mutation. For example, Dmitry studied anatomy to know the precise positioning of internal organs.
Mutants are also free to study whatever sciences interest them in their free time by asking for educational materials at the library. Needless to say, most kids aren’t too interested in that, and are very uneducated compared to their outside peers.
Is there censorship in the facility?
All the media mutants are exposed to at the facility is strictly controlled.
Tumblr media
6 y.o. Dima and his politically correct PSP.
The only movies, cartoons, comics, books and games allowed are those that either don't feature the Zone or mutants at all, those that show the discrimination mutants face outside, or those that are very obvious anti-mutant propaganda.
In essence, there are no positive depictions of human-to-mutant interaction, aside from ones between mutants and noble scientists. And, of course, nothing that goes against the general government ideology.
Can mutants be released from the facility?
It is generally assumed that mutants that go into the dome do not come out.
While they are largely dehumanised, the facility is still publicly presented as a sort of scientific sanatorium and hospice for those that cannot safely exist in society. Releasing mutants that know the truth behind the institute’s experiments into the wild is simply of no benefit to the government. So the majority are terminated once their scientific potential is exhausted or if they become too expensive to contain. As a result, few mutants live to adulthood.
Though, there are exceptions to the rule. Occasionally, mutants deemed non-hazardous can be released back into society. This is applicable to mutants that have not experienced significant mistreatment from the facility, lack the ability to talk about their experiences and optimally have been brainwashed by an appropriate 001 subject.
Have other mutants before DT and KT ever escaped?
The funny thing is, escapes aren’t a particularly rare occurrence.
Tumblr media
Dmitry and Katya’s escape in KT’s Official Guide to Coolness.
Despite getting a lot of funding, the facility itself is very disorganised. Most of the money is blatantly pocketed by the higher-ups, so a lot of its structures and equipment are subpar – this includes its outdated safety systems. To top it all off, the security staff isn’t especially well-paid, so their diligence is highly questionable.
With all that piling up, there are around 3 cases of low-level escapes every year. Because of tight budgets and plenty of work to do as is, these escapes are generally brushed under the rug. The institute still keeps tabs on the escapees in case they happen to show up on the radar, but it rarely organises active searches or alerts the public for that matter.
DT and KT’s escape stood out because it was anything but low-level, and pretty bombastic at that. But even that didn’t warrant a public announcement for fear of panic and reputational damage. So if you’re an 003 mutant looking for an opportunity to sneak out… Hell, man, just go for it.
Wrap-up
That’s about all I can say about mutants’ life in the research centre, scratch some small factoids here and there. I tried to answer the most common questions regarding the topic, so I hope your curiosity was satisfied!

nyanyame nyanyajyuu nyanya do no nyarabi de nyaku nyaku inyanyaku nyanyahan nyanyadai nyan nyaku nyarabete nyaganyagame- or short about how I feel myself for the third wednesday in a row..)
I’ll say again that I love your work, let’s go.
1. oke, do your characters have an approximate age? I know you were already replying to a similar question, but you said that it would be a spoiler. soooo... how about now? are you ready to show your cards??
2. I remember ferry making headcanons on the voices of pafl characters. do you have something like that? like... are there any songs that you associate with adm characters voices? or maybe the vocaloids that you use would be suitable for this roles?
3. I would like to know a little more about daily interactions between misha and andrey. what could it have been before misha got into a time loop? these two "hate eachother basically"(©my fav pic), right? was it something like the cold war and them trying to ignore each other's existence, accompanied by contemptuous glances? or maybe frequent and loud quarrels?? OR maybe they pretended that everything was fine and there was no tension whatsoever, but any of them often irritated the other one or threw caustic phrases in order to offend him???
4. and in general, how did this hatred arose? how did it begin? did something suddenly happen, ruining the calm relationship? accident?? or guys didn't get along from the beginning for some reason??? (god I love these two, I need to know everything *NotLikeThis NotLikeThis*)
(I hope I managed to fit it into less space, huh? . . . okay, but this time there are four sketches! see? no need to hit me, enki, god, please, no!!!)
(eh.. I kindly ask you not to take these..... concept arts(??) in full high, as well as headcanons(???) on misha's teeth and eyes of boiis(<зз), seriously. these are just silly things that I thought about briefly and my wife and I thought it was interesting (however, if you don't mind these ideas, I'd like to know what you think about them.....!! (*´∇`)ノ))
(and also, I had to greatly simplify the design of the dyusha's clothes for myself because... I spent a too much time, trying to copy the horror that happens in the canon art, but I SWEAR TO GOD I almost burst into tears, because nothing worked *laughter that turns into the start of a nervous breakdown*)
(I.. should probably be very ashamed for the last sketch, and... to be honest, yes, that’s it, I’m ashamed. (IT'S ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE ANDREY IS BEING MOCKED INSTEAD OF HIM GETTING A SINCERE COMPLIMENT) but my wife made me show this to you, so...... *blinks twice*)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i want to say they are around 20-25 yrs old
after thinking about this for awhile i cant think of any good voiceclaims for my characters..... but i might make one in the future now that i am reminded that that is a real thing
its like a love hate releationship but mostly hate
maybe ill reveal what happened between them in a future song or maybe not. it can also be kinda inferred from the current songs i think
the sketches are so cute!! you have such a fun and silly style and i love seeing my characters come to life :) ty

Speaking of Cauldron vials, I wonder how many years it took for Doctor Mother to upgrade from Eden bath water to Eden smoothie. Let me explain. From Contessa's interlude, we know that water contaminated by Eden can turn people into monsters. I don't think Doctor Mother is reckless enough that her first step in creating the super serum formula is hacking and slashing the eldritch abomination's corpse. So, it's entirely possible that the two of them started their experiment by splashing Eden with water from a safe distance and then collecting said water to sell as miracle water. The water probably is not as effective as the actual Eden smoothie and most likely results in very weak capes even if it's successful. Well, science marches on and she started harvesting the corpse. I like to imagine there are bathwater case 53s still exist in some corner of the multiverse though.

Signalis: Unsubstantiated History Lesson
In the beginning there was the Empress, who had Bioresonant powers and used them to unite humanity. These powers were studied and reverse engineered to create technology that allowed humanities expansion beyond Vineta.
Telepathy industrialized became the production of Replikas. Telekinesis industrialized became artificial gravity. Conjuration industrialized became Klimaforming.
There was a great flourishing of art and culture. Studies of natural sciences and technologies struggled to catch up to the achievements of Bioresonance. Mysticism and esoteric rituals became widely practiced. Every world and several moons within the Sol system were colonized.
...And then the Empress committed suicide.
Why?
Perhaps she realized that she wasn't changing the universe to accommodate humanity. That she was changing humanity according to the whims of an incomprehensible terrifyingly sentient universe.
Perhaps she realized that humanity would never be free as long as she was alive. That the survival of the human species was pointless if every person's individuality was lost due to bioresonant subjugation.
Perhaps She wanted no part to play in the coming future but was trapped by her own supernatural powers in a position of political authority. Unable to retire to a quiet life and finally rest she had no choice but the deadly alternative.
Without the Empress, her empire fell slowly into chaos. Politicians, Corporate Executives, and Bioresonant Cultists formed a new aristocracy while collectively maintaining the veneer of a unified empire. These leaders were mere mortals, their longevity and power was inferior to the Empress. Their cruel incompetence begat competent revolutionaries. So those allegedly in control formed military and police forces to maintain their grip over their subjects.
Then a cult on Heimat successfully cloned the object of their worship, ironically an achievement of practical science. She was raised to do what the Empress would not. She would want to live forever, have absolute authority, and redundantly, even have an heiress.
When she was revealed to the worlds, The War started. The Eusan Empire was fighting for their freedom and the interests of their nobility. The nascent Eusan Nation fought for a future ruled by the Great Revolutionary. It should be spelled out that both sides were hypocrites in this apocalyptic interplanetary conflict.
Humanity was spread too far out and so their re-subjugation beneath a godlike figure was never going to be recreated.
As the war stagnated, The Great Revolutionary became concerned about threats from within her Nation. The cult that had created her could create her replacement if she did not obey them. In the interest of her own survival, she had them and any means of creating a challenger purged from existence. Even with her power, this was not easily done due to the cults integration with the Nation and the vast size of both organizations.
Cultists would purge themselves from the records and continue living under new identities. More intense law enforcement tactics were required to catch them. The Nation's war against an external foe shifted to face an enemy within.
Human suffering continues, and yet in these dark times two women fall in love with each other aboard the low-cost scout ship Penrose-512...

GORONS CONFIRMED TO JUST COME OUT OF THE GROUND
Tumblr media
This side quest is to help these two old Gorons remember where their birth place is, as they want to visit for old time's sake, but they only remember one odd detail about the place. Tray then explains that Gorons are "Born of the land" and that he and the other old Goron are basically "Rock brothers" as they emerged in the same cave.
No wonder they're so specific about the rocks they eat. Eating just any generic rock must be like cannibalism for them

@fantomette22 Well my friend do I have some LORE for you!
Putting it under the cut because it got way outta hand :)
Essentially, since it's speculated that Moon Presence/Flora is hunting/having others hunt other Great Ones, it stands to reason they would eventually go after ones that didn't get caught in their dream (I believe the Hunter's Dream that encompasses Yharnam and the surrounding areas was a trap of sorts, being used to keep other Great Ones in one place without them realizing). Veori happens to be the patron/matron entity of a village that was previously affiliated with the Healing Church before they broke off in light of the attempt to spread propaganda (what worked in Yharnam likely wouldn't have worked in other places), and Puck is it's surrogate child and therefore considered the town's local saint.
I don't think it would be easy to connect to a separate "trap" (I haven't yet decided why Veori set a trap outside of it being a way to exchange labor for a "favor"), but it would be possible if a Great One (Flora) is determined enough to kill an entity. Gehrman would be the go-to person to enter said dream and kill off the surrogate in this case, as Veori shares far more of its power with Puck than Gehrman gets from MP/Flora and could revive Veori if they solely targeted the main beast, and vice versa- they'd have to be killed together.
Like any good hunter, of course, Gehrman had to stalk his prey for a while before going in for the kill. This is where the fun part of this weird interpersonal-pseudointimate relationship comes in, because this man eventually keeps putting off going in to kill them (Puck being his target while Flora goes for Veori) because the more he watches them, the more he gets attached. Apart from seeing a lot of similarities between himself and Puck, Gehrman also sees some of Maria in this younger hunter. He's enraptured by the vigor and strength with which Puck tends to his workshop, an old remodeled church that used to be home to the Healing Church (and we'll get into Puck's relationship to that later), and the way they are so personally involved in the affairs of the surrounding village and its people despite being trapped within the confines of the structure by way of his contract. It has such a profound effect on Gehrman, to know that someone like him is so headstrong where he has given up.
He could care less about Veori, but as he comes to learn, Puck is far too attached to that "thing" for his liking. There's a platonic relationship there that rubs him the wrong way because he can't isolate them for their "protection", which he can't do anything about. At the same time, he can respect that Veori is oddly accommodating to its adopted child and puts far more trust in Puck than it necessarily has to. This is all a strange thing for him- he's not felt this way about someone for such a long time, and he's almost afraid to allow himself this budding affection (more like immediate obsession).
Of course, MP/Flora is aware of all of this. The caveat to that is, they likely want to see what Gehrman will do when it comes time to hunt his prey (a benign curiosity that could have dire consequences). They don't intend to actually let him kill his newfound object of affection (a Great One likely would see this as normal affection) unless he goes against their wishes before they call the whole thing off. This whole situation was supposed to be simple, but Moon Presence doesn't mind things becoming complicated like this if, at the end of the day, there's eventually one less Great One standing in their way- whether by killing it, or having it unwilling to stand against them. Veori is only a problem because it's capable of invading their dream right back, but if it has no reason to and decides to stay away from their prowling grounds, then things would likely be calmer between the two entities. Of course, this decision will backfire because Puck and Veori end up convincing a hunter that wants to "ascend the hunt" to seek out Paleblood in order to take out the perceived threat before they can attack again, but that's not a possibility it even considers at that point.
Anyways, eventually Gehrman has to go fight Puck despite not really wanting to kill him, and he's not going to just go easy on them because he likes him a little (a lot). Puck may have more of Veori's power than he's permitted from Flora/MP and some tricks he's not entirely aware of, but he has more experience and the advantage of knowing all their go-to tactics. I won't lie, it's actually a pretty close fight- Puck has a lot of tricks they don't use to hunt weaker prey like the beasts that wander into the lower levels of the workshop, and they use a weapon that on average only weighs 5.5 lbs, so they're deceptively fast despite the length of their weapon when tricked out, although it does less damage than a heavier greatsword. Gehrman, on the other hand, I speculate being entirely capable of using his tricked out Burial Blade with one hand, and probably did that a lot in his prime- it allows him to deal heavier damage while having access to his gun, but in his old age he's slower swinging it with one hand than he used to be and is out of practice with that method.
Puck fights hard, but Gehrman catches them using a very easy-to-counter tactic so he can catch their breath and uses that to land the poor thing on his back at scythe point and under his boot. So, when he suddenly gets the order to retreat, he finds himself utterly relieved. Happy, even. Not only was he hesitant to even come here with the intent to kill his newfound crush (obsession), this hunt was easily everything he'd hoped it would be and more. A match made for him! To be allowed to spare the object of his affections after such a blood-pumping hunt, is a dream come true for him.
On Puck's end, they're far too worried about Veori at that moment to process the fear and hopelessness of being the First Hunter's prey, at his mercy even, but rest assured that this gives him very complicated feelings. You see, Puck knows quite a lot about Gehrman- not out of knowing he had infiltrated their humble little dream, mind you, but because they knew Ludwig. As a child and into his teens, Ludwig was a prominent figure in their family- a friend and his father's business partner. Perhaps close enough to be their unofficial uncle. He's the reason Puck wanted so badly to be a hunter, but at the same time, it may have been a yearning to be more useful to his father. In the small Church-affiliated town Puck grew up in, families were very...strict, compared to Yharnam. Spousal dynamics were horribly unbalanced, and children were considered property and tools to their families. Ludwig hoped that getting out of the town and hunting in other places would help the poor thing mellow out, but unfortunately, he'd end up disappearing before he could have any real progress with the boy. Following this, Puck's father would seek a contract with Veori in a town that was in the midst of separating from the Healing Church (which is a bag of worms in itself).
Under the guise of a hunting trip, Puck was taken to an unfamiliar place, and the last anyone in their home town saw of them was when he boarded the carriage there with their father. Veori granted insight on Ludwig's whereabouts to a stranger the village did not know, and in exchange, the people were left with another reminder as to why they despised the Healing Church- a man eagerly and willingly used his own child as a bargaining chip just to seek out someone who got "what was coming". Truly, the Healing Church had become a far cry from what Ludwig had intended, but no one there had any clue as to what he wanted. All anyone knew was of the beast plague, and that the Church wanted to cover it up. This newcomer, their patron/matron's now child, would become their blood-saint, as the creation of the "snare" meant that the beasts would be taken away into a different plane, only to reappear once every few years (a day the village could prepare for, rather than being at the mercy of such beasts nightly).
Veori is very caring towards Puck even from the very beginning. After all, a child willingly abandoned by their family must be in need of love. This is a rare case of a Great One having an understanding of human intricacies and of how delicate they are; Veori cares for the entire village to the point where it would do anything to protect its people, after all. Of course, the matter of how it would continue to grant "favors" is a simple one: being Veori's blood-saint and surrogate child, Puck's blood can be used to initiate a contract, bringing a potential contractee into their dream and working from there.
When a person dies during the night of the real hunt, they are also brought into Veori's dream, but not as a contracted hunter. Instead, they live there as normal. This is why there are inhabitants within the dream, and where Puck's diplomatic (and borderline mayoral) duties fall. These people are from multiple generations of families, implying that Veori was preserving souls even before the surrogacy (Veori may understand some human intricacies, but not all). A 'contracted' hunter may also be denied after imbibing of Puck's blood, whether on basis of intent or because the favor they seek is not within Veori's power, and sometimes because they managed to pass the town's "interview" without arousing suspicion of insanity. The terminally ill and dying are put ahead on the waiting list, so to speak, but are unhindered by their illness within the dream. In exchange for "favors", labor (usually hunting) is usually given in accordance to the request at hand. This is deliberated between Puck and Veori.
Puck's feelings about the Healing Church begin to sour the more they learn about the atrocities they committed behind Ludwig's back, and the cover up of the beast plague when they could have saved lives by warning people is the last straw. Ludwig would be appalled by what his institution has become (he'd also be appalled that his friend and business partner essentially sold off his only child). While they know members of the Church personally who know nothing of the cover up, and would be appalled by it too, Puck eventually completely severs any lasting connection by ordering the burning of any affiliated institutions in the area (real and within the dream). All that remains is their workshop, refurbished from a chapel that was once a place of worship to Oedon before Veori come to the village. While he wonders what happened to Ludwig and feels awful for what had to be done, Puck knows that their decision was necessary. The Church was a painful reminder of what these people have lost to the plague.
Regarding what happens after their fight with Gehrman, well, considering how unbalanced and often abusive spousal dynamics were in his home town, despite all that they have unlearned, some things just don't leave a person. Puck is just as afraid of him as they are enraptured by his strength. The night terrors of that fight and what could have happened after are just as numerous as the daydreams and...less than appropriate thoughts he has about their would-be killer. Veori thinks it's best that its child never learns of the obsession -not love- that Gehrman has for them, to let Puck live in blissful ignorance of those thoughts that haunt Gehrman's nights alone, rather than risk him running right into the arms of someone that would take advantage of their horribly skewed beliefs of what a relationship should be.
Puck is no fool, but there are some traditions and teachings they haven't been able to shake. Currently, the longer their dreams remain connected, the more time there is for something horrible to happen- whether that be Gehrman coming back to take what he perceives as his, or another being entirely finding its way into a place it ought not be. Everyone is waiting with bated breaths.

Considering what I’ve just posted is pretty vague, I wanna talk a little more about their deal. So here’s the basic gist and the beginning:
Tumblr media
A lot of Tags of Whistlegrimm’s cast have always been mishmashes of different fairy tales. In Duck Duck Goose, I mostly stuck with one’s most are familiar with. But in Blind Man’s Bluff, my plan is to branch out a little more and include some universal representation.
Case in point, Robin, Nightingale, and Snow’s first idea came from a Native American folktale called “The Robin and The Bear”, which tells the story of a persistent robin trying to ignite a fire for a freezing tribe against a bear who keeps blowing the fire out at each turn until the Robin’s fire overpower’s the bears ability to blow out— in turn, this is how the robin got it’s red chest. The choices of how I could apply this to already existent fairy tale characters were not hard picks. The robin as Robin Hood, of course, and the bear being represented as Snow White, considering the cold winter the story took place during. Nightingale is the fire the robin continued to ignite.
Considering this disdain the robin and the bear kept against each other, Robin and Snowie were depicted as strong enemies who wanted nothing more than the other dead for reasons we may never get the full picture of. But what starts their story? How do they get forced upon each other to create the rest of the plot?
These two are ruthless, and despite what anyone may assume, are both generally unlikable people. Not the ripest of the bunch for sure, and it’s almost like these two are trying to eliminate the other to be the least likable person in Whistlegrimm! Which is… props to them? But is trying to kill the other over their differences really optimal?
The plot will be sure to say otherwise.
Against their hatred for one another and how often they find themselves going at each other’s throats, their wandering battles enter some pretty risky territory… that of royal territory, of course. You know, where you’d typically see the king. Well, they make an awful mistake that day. One of the tenders of the garden catches wind of the scene and runs in to attempt to disperse the two or otherwise figure out what the issue is and why bring it here at the kingdom. But in the process, the two are so focused on getting the upper hand that neither suspect the oncoming patron, and when they do catch up, it’s already too late to react when both attack so mercilessly and the unsuspected incomer gets mutilated in the crossfire, and dies on the scene.
Now in shock, the two realize what’s happened, and there’s no time to react before they are immediately pinned by the guards and presented to the king for their tyranny.
Lord Whimsical Whistlegrimm (yes, that is indeed his name) is skeptical of why this would be necessary. Upon allowing the two to argue, he’s quick to decipher that the death was not warranted by either, and was completely by mistake, actually aiming for the other. Lord takes some interest in this strange set of circumstances, and orders the two be locked away until he knows what his next course of action is. When presented to the warden, he makes a special request that they be in the same cellar.
Robin, Nightingale, and Snow are all pretty helpless. Their desires to kill the other seem futile as they’ll likely be beheaded for their crime anyway. They can’t bring each other to fight the other at this moment, and when Lord returns, he has… a proposition. These two are curious and he wants to see if they really value their own lives as much as they hate the other’s. Lord informs them of a concoction they can create— one they need a plethora of ingredients for that are scattered around Whistlegrimm’s Wonderlands, that is spoken to raise the dead— to revive the innocent gardener they mistakenly slayed. And if they can create the tincture, their punishments will be severely lowered if not retconned.
But considering in Whistlegrimm that actual magic is rare and a risky practice, the two are skeptical of the authenticity. But who are they to question the king? If it means living a little longer— maybe so they can actually succeed in outliving the other— who are they to refuse? They take the offering that’s given, but not without a special catch. The king provides a little bit of magic for each— magic in the form of a durable red string that wrings around the necks of the trio. If they want to be at each other’s throats so bad, than so be it. The string will only remove when their end of the deal is confirmed— and they have to be together to do it. If they get careless and one of them perishes during the journey… they’ll have to carry the weight for the rest of their lives, figuratively and literally.
Lord is asked about what his prediction will be about this. Can he be so sure they won’t come back empty handed or come back at all? Ah, Lord cannot confirm either… he almost feels bad.
So off these two go to erase their debt. But it’s not going to be simple considering the predisposed hatred they have. Protecting each other is not going to be fun when all this time they’ve known each other they’ve been actively trying to end each other. But… if this means fixing their mistakes to the kingdom, they only have one way to go— onward!

I know I treat Bastion like a cute smol bean in some of my posts and tags. I’ll be honest, on one level he kinda genuinely is that. Like he’s very sincerely in love with Ida, even if he wouldn’t be able to resist devouring her, there’s nothing else he’d allow to get in the way of treating her well. If he makes other friends, which once I’ve gotten his and Ida’s story more solidified to the point I can branch out and work on other characters for them to interact with he just might. I can imagine he’d also make a very dependable friend as long as what you’re depending on isn’t him sparing you. But that’s the thing he’s also a predatory monster that doesn’t know how to go against his hunger because at a very fundamental level he IS his hunger. So despite having things about him that are endearing. He’s very much not a safe person to be around. Ida is alive because she’s a good survivalist, with an innate talent for understanding puzzles, excellent reflexes, instincts and a good bit of genre savvy mixed together. Most normal people who enter the Manor do NOT come out without intervention from Ida or the OCE. Ida is alive because she’s scarily good at what she does. Not because Bastion is sparing any effort in trying to claim her. I think it’s important to remember that when they talk they’re usually in “safe” parts of the Manor, the parts of the Spiderweb that aren’t “sticky” so to speak. She is conversing with his human avatar which is under geas to not harm “guests” but Bastion also IS the Manor and the dangers inside it. He’s really not safe. Despite Ida treating him so casually in the snippets I’ve shared.

hey tart! I finally dared to write you a question, omg. so I want to start with formalities, because I am damn delighted with every song of yours!! I swear, I am in absolute love for your work, and I am interested in everything connected with it! (and I apologize in advance for possible illiteracy, I am not a native english speaker and am only in the process of learning it *TwT*)
therefore, I would like to know more about your characters. for example, how tall are each of them? or what about their clothes? andrey’s is quite strange, is it some kind of uniform?? Same question about misha, lmao! oh, besides andrey has a scar along his eye. do you have a lore moment of how he got it???
and one last thing. I don’t run social networks as such, but I want to show you my various sketches and other little things, if you don’t mind. can I attach them to my future questions just so you can see them, okay?)
👉👈
ohh thank you so much for all the kind words :) sometimes i feel sad because people enjoy these characters so much and i do not give them any real lore but ill try to answer these questions to the best of my brain power. if you havent read the big overall summary post i did awhile ago its tagged somewhere under #adm.
i have no idea how tall they are. it is assumed andrei is noticeably shorter than misha but not too much shorter.
as far as clothes go, (this is so stupid) but they were designed by TWO different people and at the beginning i never had any intentions of using misha outside of enigma but then i started writing more song about him. misha was designed by @roseclemshipper and the general idea back then was some mash between that bitch from ungray days, ci flower, and a wolf plush from ikea (we made a mood board). andrei was designed by lon and i think i told him something along the lines of "tactical combat boyfriend" who knows. i think they are silly and clash with eachother in a good way.
idk exactly how he got the scar but id like to think it was whatever caused him to need the eye visor screen thingy in the first place
yes of course :) you can always send fanart here or you can just post stuff and tag me or use #adm i check that tag maybe once every few weeks
hope this doesnt disappoint you with the overwhelming lack of concrete lore. the story is WHATEVERRR you want it to be guys

If Varin was a real person he'd be able to recite the entire script of any Star Trek episode upon request. Sadly he is not a real person and Star Trek does not exist in his universe, so he has been denied this opportunity

Something that immediately caught my eye for the new World Gran Colo weapons is that they break the traditional names. Cinderella & Hameln’s weapon names Ditch the 叡智 thematic/Insight of [Concept] theme. They are the odd ones out. Instead, Hameln’s is 耽美の深厭 [Intense Hatred of Aesthetics, translated to ‘Aesthetic Animosity apparently in Global] and Cinderella’s is 卑劣の深淵 [Abyss of Depravity, Global also kept this format] Cinderella’s Ext weapon is also called 卑劣の淵  [Abyss of Depravity] HMMM. I will definitely put more thought into this than I really need to.
