Hrothtober Day 2 - Sweat
Do Hrothgar sweat?? Their entire body is covered with a thin layer of fur, so I would assume the fur wicks most of the sweat away like it does with other furry critters. To this end, do Hrothgar suffer more so in the summer due to this? This line of thinking is what lead to Cat's glam for this pic. I think it suits her.

Bought another delay plugin, but this one is so cool, made a track just because of this plugin, was so short on time to make it happen but I really enjoyed messing around with this delay plugin and will be using this on many more projects! #pspaudioware #psp608 #psp #multitapdelay #delay #plugin #newplugin #newpluginday #abletonlive #ableton #musicproducer #music #noiseproducer https://www.instagram.com/p/CpIk8LYJUqI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Phil: There is a small delay– it's the same translations as the ones used for the– the ones on screen that you can turn off right now. Those ones with the plugin, only it's sending it to a browser source so I can pop it onto the screen. It's cool! I like it. I'm sad I can't customize it more when I'm offline. I have to like, do it when I'm live. So... there we go, nice little test.
Phil: If I add it fully, I'll add all the languages Chat, and then try and make them match. I guess I could probably figure it out on my alt.
I know there's been a lot of bad news this week, so I want to share something nice: Phil is thinking about adding subtitles on screen so that VOD watchers can still have access them.

do you have a preferred method to get vsts and other such instruments for a DAW?? im poor as heck and dont know ANYTHING about piracy, im so scared of getting goobered by people on the internet
i wish i knew more about the best go-to sites for pirating rn unfortunately i have no clue. ppl on the internet can have such shit intentions too so i dont even know where to look or who to ask. but also here's some free + VERY cheap things u may consider (below the break):
vital synth (i will always shill for vital bc i use it constantly and its free lol)
ob-xd synth (it says buy for $49, but the free download is on the left. the buy link is just a donate)
klanghelm plugins (all these are made by one dude. mjuc is a great vintage style compressor, the dc8c is a pretty featured compressor for the price, sdrr has a particularly nice tube saturation/distortion, and vumt is a great metering plugin, i have vumt on every single project since 2019)
analog obsession (if you donate $5 to their patreon you can get every single plugin they make. also all made and maintained by one person. lots of different things, so i recommend just downloading everything and exploring the functions of the plugins)
tokyo dawn labs (all very high quality mixing stuff. they have free versions of most of their premium stuff and they're quite featured despite being free. ez.)
kilohearts (they recently made all their main effects free. and if you want their flagship stuff, its all rent-to-own as well.)
sforzando (soundfont player. if you dont know what soundfonts are, theyre essentially really condensed, lightweight sampled instruments. they can often sound rlly cheap or tacky [which might be good, i definitely love that sound] but just install this and google [instrument] soundfont and just find lots of free instruments that way)
togu audio line (some free effects and instruments if you scroll down. but i also recommend TAL Sampler if you want a cool sampler and can afford it)
meldaproduction (has a free plugin suite. theres an annoying watermark at the bottom for free versions, but everyone understands. shit is expensive)
native instruments (they have the komplete start bundle which is just a bunch of free decent stuff)
musicradar FREE SAMPLES (ive sworn by a few of the sample resources that i've gotten from musicradar as far back as 2011 lol)
looperman FREE SAMPLES (looperman is a user-sourced sample website where ppl upload samples they've made* and you can just download and use them for free. sometimes people request specific credit, so check for that if you can. *NOTE: its very possible for people to upload unlicensed samples or stuff they didn't make so use your best judgement when sorting through stuff)
freesound FREE SAMPLES (freesound rules always reliable)
synth1 (AHHHH IM SO HAPPY I CAN RECOMMEND THIS RIGHT NOW!!!! synth1 used to be abandonware but was finally picked up again and is supported by modern systems once more. i used this religiously from 2013-2017. and i'm going to start using it again honestly)
valhalladsp (this is the only exclusively premium thing i'm going to leave in this thread [aside from bitwig, below], but it's just that god damn good. every plugin of theirs is $50, so if you can manage to go for ValhallaVintageVerb and/or ValhallaDelay you will basically never need another reverb/delay ever again; would recommend NOT pirating from them if you can help it bc theyre definitely a very small company but u know.. ur call)
bitwig (if you need a DAW, i can now heartily recommend Bitwig. it's on the rent to own program through splice if you're ok getting it legally...)
i know this isnt what u asked but i hope its still helpful. i've also rescinded my recommendations for spitfire audio bc the company was revealed to be run by a bunch of queerphobic knuckleheads. everything in this list i have personally used for my own music and can vouch for them from actual experience (YES even bitwig, i made the song "Futura" on Carousel exclusively with Bitwig, making it the first time i've made an entire song outside of Ableton since 2014).
again i hope this helps, forgive me for not knowing enough about pirating at the moment 😭 please make so much music and please look at this animal:

~Brief descriptions of the animation process below the cut~
Tumblr media
First pass with testing out the placements and eye darts first. I edited his eye shape a lot after this coz it was too big here xD His tattoo isn't properly masked as well yet
Tumblr media
Second pass with the new eye shape >u< Testing out his smaller eye in this and making sure the pupil doesn't clip through his smaller eyelids
Tumblr media
Third pass, eye squinttsss. I don't use plugins for my animation though, I just brute force it via a combo of position, rotation and puppet pins xD
Tumblr media
Fourth pass with more detailed and subtle eye movements. If you squint and stare hard enough you can actually see subtle deformation for his eyelashes to have a smoother animation with the delays and drag
Tumblr media
Fifth pass, I gave him a subtle up and down movement with his body as if from breathing but you can't really see it unless you've been staring at it as long as I have xD But it does help subconsciously to not make him feel as static. Bigger head movement for this too where he shifts position. Started parts of his hair animation too. There's puppet pins as well in his hair to do the wave motion for it alongside rotations.
Tumblr media
Sixth pass, wheeee he got all his fluffeh hair moving x3 I animated each strand to be on the same timing first then slowly offset the keyframes one by one so that they all move on different timings for it.
Tumblr media
Seventh pass, last WIP pass I saved before the completed one. He got yet another expression shift for this. I'm pretty happy with how he's quite flexible in his expressions from just manipulating the puppet pins and my many many layers to built him xD Annddd that's all, thanks for reading >u< / <3
Tumblr media
Bonus note, animating in After Effects will eat your PC like nobody's business x'D 46GB just for the damn cache omggggggg It was worth animating Sukuna though~

Mixing Stuff Masterpost for Vocal Synth Users
i'll say a few things here and there on how i approach mixing based on a set of guidelines i've been giving thru learning. i won't go 100% and i encourage you research further on your own as everyone has a different perspective of certain concepts. whats important is that you understand the concept so that you are able to interpolate on it with your own liberties. yeah. please read the links before looking at my commentary or you won't understand what im saying.
Some DAWs, Their Guides, & Some Freebies: One of the first things you should do is pick a DAW and learn how to use it and its functions to streamline your mixing process.

ORDER IN THE COURT!: The order of plugins is more important than you think. These links should also introduce some terms we use in the audio production world (like "gain staging" or "EQing")
WHAT'S THE BEST EFFECTS CHAIN ORDER FOR MIXING? by Icon Collective:
The Order Of Things: Audio Plug-ins by AskAudio
Plugin order is viewed from "top to bottom". BASICALLY... most like to gain stage -> EQ -> compress -> saturate -> MORE EQing -> whatever else at this point, but i do my process a bit differently. don't be afraid to bend the rules a little bit. but the guidelines are there for a reason.....based on what they do
Basics: I'll link to some tutorials to elaborate on what was listed by Icon Collective's list.

Every time I listen to Underwater Neon by Octoplush, I keep thinking of Warabi. What do you think because the voices and music sounds very much like him.
I don't think anything,,,? i dunno like, i guess they're similar why would they randomly put him in there tho? I,,, supose it's maybe perhaps the delay lama situation, people thought it was that plugin in one of the songs but it was from another asset,,, perhaps?? really I don't hold any kind of opinions on this one,,,
Have a fluffy Warabi in return for the confusion
Tumblr media
I have although one headcanon related to his voice, he has a really gentle and soft voice he HATES, so in his songs he uses vocalizer or similars to change his tone

Thank you for an amazing 2023 <3
Hey you, yes you, thank you!
I wanted to take a short moment to recap the past half year of my life, of which I spent a large part of on here, Discord, and AO3. I'm blown away by the response to my writing, every day anew, and the kind and nice community the BG3 fandom generally is.
I prepped some stats around my fics (including top kinks) and pulled some of my favorite comments under the cut!
Bearhugsandshrugs Wrapped
Tumblr media
Cannot believe that I wrote the equivalent of two meaty novels, but in fics. Of course the series I wrote take the majority of words, but I also did quite a lot of smut fics. The drabbles really only started like a month ago or so, so that's quite a lot already!
Kinks
Tumblr media
(wonder if the person at Canva who made this ever dreamed about me using this for smut fics lol)
The kinks were not really surprising mostly about oral and vaginal sex, since I write a lot with F!Tav. So I tried to exclude those more "vanilla" kinks (incl anal sex and fingering) from the top kinks, and it left me with Orgasm Delay/Denial & Edging as the #1 kink I wrote (in terms of amount of times I included it in fics. Drabbles excluded). Power dynamics includeds anything like dom/sub and power play, and that's also no surprise it comes in 2nd, as I love switchy Gortash and the hatefucking / brat dynamics he can have with a Tav. Last but not least there were several tied for #3, but I wanted to shoutout Object insertions because it was remarkable to me how often I wrote about someone fucking another person with a cane or a shoe, or whatever object came to mind...
Comments
I also made a cutesy collage of some of my favorite comments. Some of them I post on my close friends IG, and I often send cute comments to my IRL friends who have no concept of what this refers to haha. And there are several of you who send really long, thoughtout comments. I DEVOUR THEM. I love them so much. I reread them several times. I think you all know who you are. I see you. I hope you know that.
Tumblr media
But honestly I love all comments!
Most read fics
For my fics, my most read fic of the year 2023 is Til Death Do Us Part, the Tavtash saga (completed). Second is Folie à Deux, the Raph-Tav-Haarlep threesome. Both of them are just a few views apart and have been more or less tied for weeks.
From the smut oneshots the most-read fic is Amuse Bouche, a non-con orgy with Raphael, Gortash, Orin, Abdirak, Mizora, ....
Some learnings I made about AO3, comments, kudos, and so on:
Noncon fics usually get significantly less kudos but they overperform in terms of hits (see above). If you use some sort of plugin to show you like-rates etc keep that in mind. Topic/genre/characters/length impact that a lot
Series pick up a community after a certain amount of chapters / readers (also: see above in terms of indicator)
Replying to the comments has changed the dynamic under my fics a lot and I can just recommend it to everyone!
Again, I'm blown away by the reception. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Looking forward to 2024 with you all <3

oh hey that makes sense. I have NTP coming in to this microcontroller over wifi and you can just... make os.date() calls from Lua to get the current time of day, because that goes through to the C calls, and the ESP-IDF implements all the standard time functions. Cool as hell. That really simplifies a lot of my life by moving yet more stuff into lua.
I was expecting this to require way more painful munging of data but it's very smooth and you can basically just write lua. I have a function that delays your pixel write until the next frame and it just works. I keep track of the number of microseconds you had "left" to draw before delays start happening so I can generate utilization stats, and because Lua gets its own entire core there's not really any noisy neighbours to cause jitter (which I noticed before I moved the wifi thread over)
Tumblr media
Now for the hardest part: making an interactive webpage that is not piss. At the last work conference one of my coworkers was showing off her plugin for a docker webui and a bunch of kernel developers were like this is great but I will never send you a patch for this because the browser DOM confuses and terrifies me. And I agree with this sentiment.

HOW TO MAKE THEM GUNDAM SOUNDS
Or any classic anime/kung fu sound effect in a DAW. Achieving the central spice of it anyway.
Preemptive warning: WATCH YOUR EARS. We are gonna be applying really high levels of resonance + some drive to this basic sound and it can hurt while fiddling, so do all this at a lower volume than usual.
Get ANY synth that can output white noise or even just a white noise sample you ripped from somewhere. Above I have Ableton's Analog synth with OSC 1 on only, set to noise, and the Amp envelope a straight block with all sustain, no release. The Amp level is set to 18 because you want a good ratio of noise to filter resonance, which you'll see what I mean by in a minute.
Tumblr media
Then put on any low-pass filter with a lot of resonance and if possible a drive option. For this, I chose Ableton's default filter, with the PRD circuit emulation to allow me to apply drive. You can totally just copy my settings here, but the Envelope amount should be set to taste as it can vary how chunky or fresh the sound is. Remember what I said about the ratio of noise to filter resonance too, because if the noise sample is too loud, the SQUELCH of the resonance will be muddied. So if you feel like the sound is too "sandy" or flat white noise still, try reducing the source noise volume and upping the resonance.
Tumblr media
Finally, for extra color, I've added an Overdrive plugin with low drive and wet% and a delay plugin with a fast delay rate. This could literally be anything you want to color up the sound--reverb, phaser, delay, heavier drive, whatever!
Tumblr media
Now, have fun tweaking the frequency knob on the filter and watch this sound come to life. You can get anything from radios to laser blasts to hard crunchy punch sounds to exaggerated mech movement.
I absolutely love this sound element and use it in a lot of my sound design, you can make it the central focus or pare it back until it's just a layer. I spent years not knowing I had this right under my nose and was bowled over when I found out the key element of a lot of classic sound design was readily available. I prefer using Serum with all its modern possibilities to do this, but wanted to prove it could be done on the most basic tools too. Here's a video of me playing with the frequency knob and adjusting the envelope.
NOTE: in my vid, the resonance squelch lasts a little long after the sound for my taste. To reduce that, also automate the resonance knob and turn it down after the Anime Moment has been achieved
If you liked this buy my albums or something?

Quad test was successful. :3 The overarching plan is to use the modular for sound generation and VCV for sequencing and routing/panning, working up to using four voices, as that's what the interface I'm using will work with. Next steps include: - Rethink and then overthink everything about speaker placement. - Build two more stands for the speakers currently on the desk, as they're too close together - Find my book of notes and do some work on sequencing for the NSYNTHI quad panner, it's a pretty groovy little module and will be central (haha) to the whole project - Make a chorus out of a delay and LFO module so I can replicate them and have one for each speaker, quad chorus, baby! - Make a binaural mic, I should probably do this sooner rather than later so I can record sound for video... - Fix the scaling on my oscillators, it's been months and a move since I did it last, the poor babies! - Consider some room treatment??? - Relearn the psychoacoustics necessare to make things sound nlike they're coming from outside the circle of speakers, or cheat and buy the VCV plugin host module and do it with the TDL Distance plugin, lols.
For a first check if the concept is sound, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
