okay, and now i'm going to say something spicy and maybe truly controversial:

i love rich's time with the gotg. i love his connections to these characters. but do y'all (general y'all, no one SPECIFICALLY GHFJDKS) as a fandom, like, realize he has a wholeass character beyond that? he has his own history, his own lore, he literally only met these characters 30 years after his first appearance — which included three nova solo runs, extensive time with the new warriors, and appearances in various and sundry crossover events and other people's books?

he doesn't just exist for the gotg or to be part of a ship. like, i get that his 70s and 90s stuff isn't a lot of what people know, and annihilation really did a lot to revitalize his character (and annihilation is how i found him, too!), but, like — he is a character who exists for his own sake.

and as much as i, like, really fundamentally don't want mcu nova, because i'd love one last thing that i love to remain untainted by the mcu, i occasionally see comments like "oh no rich won't meet the gotg, what's even the point of him being here!" idk, fam, maybe because he has stories that have nothing to do with them that could be adapted? because he's his own character?

i've been holding this in for a while, but holy shit it drives me nuts!!!!!

2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom

idk how compelling this is but the reason i think it's so hard for me to write gamora as a bottom is that she was never really given power/control growing up, so the fact that she has it in the bedroom is very liberating and makes her a lot more comfortable. i think she could be very switchy but i personally could never write her as strictly a bottom.

don't have a screenshot but any variation of "gamora's ending was good actually you're all just mad that she didn't end up back with quill and that's misogynistic" posts. that's not why we're mad and also wanting to see a female character be in a romantic relationship is not misogynistic at all?? need people to unlearn the 2016 buzzfeed "being a strong female character™️ means you cannot have any romantic connections ever" brand of feminism (which is not actually feminism, idk what it actually is but it's something along the lines of girlboss capitalism pushed by male hollywood executives).

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

i don't see rocket as groot's dad. i feel like peter fulfills that role more and while rocket and groot are definitely closer and rocket is shown to be a disciplinary figure towards him i've always believed their best friend dynamic from vol 1 carried over to the new groot as well. i view rocket more as groot's super cool chill uncle who he can go to sneak a beer and talk shit with at family gatherings.

9. worst part of canon

toss-up between gamora's death and the fact that she was sidelined in vol 3. i'm sorry but i cannot believe james thought not showing a single scene of her with the ravagers before the ending was a good idea. showing not telling is like the number one rule in storytelling, you can just tell me 2014!gamora has a better relationship with the ravagers than she ever did with the guardians and expect me to believe it. also aging down phyla.

10. worst part of fanon

the constant sidelining of gamora (don't even try to deny it it's very obvious, esp after vol 3), the dumbing down of quill (he's not an incompetent leader and he doesn't spout pop culture references 24/7, he's a human being with flaws who at his core is a good person and good leader), the weird ass ships (once again no matter how anthropomorphic he is rocket is still a RACCOON), people who don't read comics but pretend like they know the comic characterizations of characters.

20. part of canon you found tedious or boring

kraglin uhhhh as much as i love vol 2 i never cared much for the ravagers b plot, i can take it or leave it. it does lead to a very emotional ending but i never find myself paying too much attention to the yondu/rocket/groot scenes on my rewatches.

23. ship you've unwillingly come around to

majority of the 616 gamora ships thanks to you. i think she should be allowed to make out with everyone. as a treat.

How would you like to see the Goddess come back?

I want her to try get revenge on Adam LOL. I think it would be fun. I think Adam needs to confront her and accept his genderfluidity again… so story wise definitely leaning into the transgender themes. Magus has had quite a few comebacks so Goddess deserves some too… I would also like them to explore Goddess + Thanos more - both have a nihilistic streak… We know a lot about Thanos and Adam and Magus so it’s only fair. She should kiss him.

Also I love to think about her and Magus reluctantly making a truce to break out of soul world together and terrorise Adam (they both are planning to betray each other and they know it).

I love her a lot and I think there’s a lot more to explore with her so :) I’d be happy with anything. Except if they try to act like she’s separate from Adam and ignore the Gender of it all.

Also if I don’t ignore current canon like? she’s still in the soul gem right??? she’s just floating wherever the fuck it flew off too? Maybe she can take control over it and be like Hi Adam. I’m back.

Okay so....there was a post about Barbara Gordon and visible vs. invisible disability floating around on here awhile back. And someone wrote an excellent response already (thanks so much to @dilfdoctordoom for pointing everything out that they did), but I wanted to add my own two cents onto it because I felt there were some unaddressed issues...only when I finally got around to actually responding to it, I found out I was blocked by the OP (because tumblr is a hellsite that doesn't actively tell you you're blocked until you try to hit "post"). That's all a preface to say: this is a response to that post, and it's largely responding to the OP's comments about how the current depiction of Babs' disability is "great, actually!" because it provides representation to people with invisible disabilities.

Which...first it needs to be said that the OP is using "invisible disabilities need rep!" to excuse visible disabilities being erased and minimized. Because this isn't a situation where people are looking at a character who's always had invisible disabilities and going "they don't count." This is a character who for thirty years was disabled in a highly visible way and promoted as DC's most prominent physically disabled character...and a character whose existing physical disability (complete spinal cord injury leading to paralysis) was then erased, changed, and continuously minimized to justify making her a walking Batgirl again. DC also did this while erasing two other female characters (one of whom, Cassandra Cain, was disabled herself and actually is an example of someone with an invisible disability).

Barbara's disability, by its nature, is not one that should be portrayed as invisible. She was shot in a way that completely severed her spinal cord and shattered the surrounding bone structure. That was always her disability and despite the spinal chip magi-cure it technically remains her disability. Even if she can walk, she should still either be an ambulatory wheelchair user or using a cane/forearm braces, on the page, consistently. Her disability should be visible; that was the intention of her creators (one of whom was a disabled woman) and that was the representation she provides. She's also worn glasses since her introduction as a character, a disability that was also erased in the New 52/Burnside era via editorial mandate (and one that we have only recently won back post-Infinite Frontier). I find it interesting that OP chose not to comment on that.

Cassandra's disability, however, is invisible and always has been. Her struggles with speech and language are not ones that can be seen just by looking at her. She's been an incredible avenue of representation for people with learning, speech, and language processing issues for 22 years. And yet she got first character assassinated, then pushed to the sidelines, and then erased from the universe entirely because DC couldn't bear to have a disabled Asian woman wearing the Batgirl mantle instead of Barbara Gordon.

And while Stephanie isn't relevant in a conversation surrounding disability, I would like to point out that she became Batgirl largely by accident due to being resurrected at a time when 'who should be the new Batgirl?' was a topic being hotly debated. Babs was as close to being magi-cured and Batgirl again in 2009 as Dick was to being killed in Infinite Crisis (which is to say, pretty damn close). Steph becoming Batgirl only delayed the inevitable, which was a coordinated multi-year editorial effort to push Cass out of the cowl and Babs back into it.

So if people like OP want to talk about the representation of visible vs. invisible disability, I think we should talk about how making Babs a walking Batgirl again erased representation of both types of disability in the process. Because it was not a decision made to give representation to people with invisible disabilities. It was a decision made because Dan Didio and a small group of similarly powerful old, white, male, able-bodied managers wanted the Batgirl from their childhoods to be on the pages again, and if they had to erase two disabled characters and multiple female characters entirely to make it work, they were willing to do so.

Nearly all subsequent writers have effectively erased her disability by omission via giving occasional lip service to it-occasional comments about the chip, the back brace, the cane-and then disregarding it entirely whenever it suits them to do so (repeatedly showing Babs in inaccessible living and working environments, having her continually suit up as Batgirl despite saying it should be an "emergency only" thing, constantly showing her standing/with her legs crossed/in weird positions when she is sitting like there's an editorial mandate on artists to remind people 'she's not paralyzed! she can walk now!', etc).

And those creative and editorial decisions need to be talked about when discussing the treatment of Babs and frankly all of the Batgirls since 2011, because it's objectively ableist writing and it's frankly incredibly tiring to have to continually point this out despite the well-sourced and thorough discussions Babs fans (both abled and disabled) have written on the subject over the past 11 years.

im so sorry in advance this is going to be a long one and a Heated one at that. obviously the unpopular opinion here is just me caring about love interests that aren't kory or babs in general

first of all. i am so fucking tired of writers creating cool and interesting characters that get pushed aside and completely forgotten once it's time for dick to think about getting back together with babs or kory

like i love babs and i love kory and i don't even hate the concept of dick dating someone and then realizing, no, it's this person, it's always been this person, and i don't care if who that person is changes over time. but babs and kory still get to exist outside of dick grayson

the fact that dick seemingly never stays in contact with exes that arent babs or kory, that they completely disappear from his life, is actively out of character. the fact that these love interests in recent years have been stronger characters, and generally women of colour, makes this worse.

i've seen people complain about shawn and i've seen people complain about bea but people don't seem to register that it's not one character getting done dirty, it's a pattern happening over and over again. WOC get to be one off romances, but they don't get to be forever

i do think this especially sucked with shawn, with the whole pregnancy scare plot where dick said he was in love with her, that he wanted to raise a kid with her, where damian and jason and bruce all knew about her and knew he was serious about her, and then he didn't even fight for her. it's out of character, it makes dick look like an asshole, and also these women are really cool and i want to see them Past the breakups

i don't know how much of this is editorial versus individual writers but my guess is it skews editorial, which sucks, because it's not like they're doing it for babs or kory to benefit anyways!

this has been my rant about dick grayson's love interests in general yes i also have more specific opinions on each one but i'm excersing a modicum of self control here <3

RE: YOUR POST ABOUT THE MCU.... The fact that the genuinely amazing animated shows like Spectacular Spider-Man and Earth's Mightiest Heroes got replaced with Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble to be more inlíne with what the MCU is doing... It literally drives me insane like even the animation was made so much more. bland.

LITERALLYYYYYY.... they just kill any project that isn't in line with their story, at least vaguely. while i haven't watched ssm, emh had SO much passion and dedication put into it. it felt like a real labour of love with every comic issue and storyline they pulled from, and even if some things weren't perfect it felt like something made by passionate comic fans who wanted to make a good show for kids. avengers assemble tho just feels like the mcu's cheaper twin. like, none of the characters have personality. if you stripped them of voices and just gave me their lines i wouldn't be able to tell you which game from which character. they're all just quippy people, there's no actual individuality amongst the characters. all the designs borrow off the mcu, and it just looks so ugly??? like, it's animation! you're supposed to do things live action can't! it just looks so bad!

idk. i enjoyed some moments in avengers assemble (vision's scenes, predictably, and hercules was a delight) but running off from emh it was just a poor cartoon and a poor adaption.
