Um LOOK I'M SLOW OKAY!

People said that Birdie mention was in the intro to ep 29 and I just COULDN'T FIND IT????? I kept checking the dad facts section and couldn't find it. The transcripts weren't out so I couldn't control f since they release them in batches. So I gave up, and then I moved on with my life.

Well, apparently it was in the song??? And apparently PAST ME KNEW THAT TOO??? I saw a tag to an old post where I reacted to that. So I'm assuming I tried to go through it and I just couldn't hear it at the time??????

I have occasionally gone back to ep 29 to try and find THIS ELUSIVE BIRDIE (but I never checked the intro cause I completely forgot that it was in the song, and just checked the dadfact) I THINK EVEN PULLED UP THE TRANSCRIPTS!!!

But, 1. I probably spelt Birdie wrong when ctrlFing (I probably spelt it "Birdy"), and 2. I only skimmed Will's talking in the teen fact.

So yah, literally 10 minutes ago I FINALLY FOUND WHERE THEY REFER TO BIRDIE!!!!

Today is Dungeons & Daddies’s 5th Anniversary!

I haven’t been listening for nearly that long but the podcast and all its characters means a lot to me. Happy Anniversary!!!

Throwing the cropped sections under the cut because there’s a lot of stuff going on and I know Tumblr likes to throw half the pixel quality out the window. And also so I can ramble a bit about this piece!!!

This piece has been months in the making, possibly an entire year. And by that I mean I’ve had a sketch of the comp scribbled on my whiteboard for ages because I wanted to save this specifically for 5th anni art. Now onto design stuff!

(First off a random thought: I really love how the garlic knot came out, I kind of want it as an enamel pin.)

I knew I wanted to make this a stained glass piece since the beginning, but I was also going to add flowers at one point but quickly dropped the idea. It felt like too much and I also didn’t want to fuss over flower language assignments for everyone. I was also going to add Doodler tentacles, but also dropped that idea pretty early. Kind of on accident, right at the end, I figured out how to make it even more stained glass-like but taking a duplicated lineart underneath the regular layer and turning the brightness all the way down, then setting it to overlay and adding a guassian blur. It’s very subtle but it adds that tiny bit of depth that makes it look more real. As for shading on the lineart/gold, I tried adding more highlight on the characters who died but once I evened everything out it wasn’t as noticeable anymore so I’m throwing that thought here so the attempt at least known lol.

The order of characters only changed a little bit from my original comp, I flipped the Wilsons and the Oaks so the rainbow could work. As for the anchors, specifically in season 2, I lined them up to the teens since the season 1 anchors lined up with each dad:

Tony —> Scary: his death was the beginning of Scary’s betrayal arc and also Willy killed him.

Guitar Pick —> Taylor: it’s not really aligned with Taylor at all, but the anchor was with Glenn so I put it next to his blunt.

Scroll —> Normal: was only because it was the last left to give him, but there’s the whole scene of him and Hermie in the Green Room so it still works!

Garlic Knot —> Link: one of two that he broke, but the more significant of the two with him telling Grant he never wants to see him again.

Small notes on the season 1 anchors: I put the layer of mold in the overnight oats but you can’t really tell with the overlay. And to make the supper bowl more interesting I added the fantasy sodas mix they dumped into it. The lure of actually drawn before so I just traced my own art lol.

As for the other smaller triangles, it took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to put there. I didn’t even think of adding the vehicles until two days ago but I’m so glad I did. I don’t really have my own take on the mascot version of the Doodler (yet?) so I borrowed the design from one of the stickers in their merch shop. Teeny was terrifying as just a front facing head so I made him cute again.

In the outer circles, I put what I felt was the most significant quotes for each family. I really wanted to use “It’s okay to be angry, it’s not okay to be cruel” but it was just a little too long.

Sparrow and his glasses hc: Sometime after s1, Mercedes and Henry find out he needs glasses. They only figure this out from seeing him squinting a lot or misreading stuff. He never told them himself and though he does go to the doctor/get all the examinations etc) when they ask him too...he's very quiet the whole time. Most likely switching to writing in his notepad when communicating

Quietly angry. He doesn't like all the changes and troubles they've had to go through and....to the heart of things, Sparrow dislikes having more physical differences between himself and Lark. Lark's vision is fine, he wants his own vision to be fine too! So, like Normal hiding his retainer, Sparrow keeps hiding ('losing') his glasses for at least the first few weeks of having them! And eventually, most likely his mom, figures out what he's doing. Henry and Mercedes do sit down and talk with him. However, the anger and frustration still lingers. While he promises his parents that he's accepted the glasses and won't try to get rid of them again-- Lark can tell how he's feeling and helps 'accidentally' break them at some point. And is very relieved when his brother seems much happier and more talkative again. Lark strikes me as a person that thinks its fine when he is feeling unhappy himself but whenever family is that way--he'll do whatever he can to cheer them up (usually by some unconventional ways). It takes awhile to get the glasses repaired (which in the twins' mind is great and for their parents a bit stressful but they love their beautiful boys and seeing Sparrow somewhat back to his energetic self is wonderful. I think Henry and Mercedes are probably trying to brainstorm different ways to talk with their son about the glasses again during this time (they end up agreeing to wait until after the repairs done though) Now the repair period obviously can't last forever, the whole family knows that but Sparrow is hoping it'll never end. Even daydreaming of somehow going to the repair place and fiddling with all the stuff there for more time. What really starts to get through to Sparrow is-- When he ends up getting hurt because he can't see certain things well, running into stuff when he's playing around with his brother and friends for example. Its painful sure but more annoying then anything else (little scraps and such) And the biggest push ends up being that Lark gets hurt badly somehow and Sparrow didn't notice immediately or couldn't get over to him for awhile because of poor vision (or at least his mind supplies that's one of the main reasons). So often these kind of moments bring the memory of Beary/Barry hurting Lark--killing him. And yeah that was a homunculus body but Lark still felt all of the pain, Sparrow felt too--and keeps feeling (scary, scary, scary). He starts wearing his newly repaired glasses not for himself but in the hopes that it'll help him support his family and friends. To help protect them and when he does open up to his parents about his reasons...it is a hard talk but it helps, feels like a weight is off his shoulders. There are tears too and a long hug...and things are alright! And as a adult, he's so used to wearing glasses that he hardly ever thinks about it anymore. I think Hero also wears glasses so Sparrow probably helped her adjust to hers as well. This is more of a side note, but I don't think he ever used contact lenses, because he's still aware his sight is poor even if a stranger won't notice. Also weary about pressing things onto his eyes (At least as a teen? Maybe tries them as an adult)
