soooo i've been real busy this past month and change working on this monster of a painting! it was originally for the GO Ref library study club but clearly took much longer than i anticipated😅

for those of you who don't recognize it, this is based on one of my favorite historical paintings, Judith Beheading Holofernes (1620) by Artemisia Gentileschi. i love the Baroque period and this painting (as well as her other works) makes me insane. here it is Good Omens style so maybe all of you can be insane with me <3

so largely I’m half referencing this collection of quotes and the various attempts to fill in the space/grave with a body (like Cicero! Cicero was a contender for this!) and I’m sort of taking shots at Antony for fun and whimsy.

like in sports!! I gotta root for my man Cassius over Antony, especially because no one can actually fill the space left by Crassus after his death (literally, the political landscape makes this impossible), but Cassius assumes a command position due to everyone else (notably, Crassus) dying (so: inheriting Crassus’ leadership position) and wouldn’t be a bad follow up to Crassus in the realm of military command since they have a similar (strict, as opposed to friendly in a way is commonly associated with Antony) relationship with the men under their command.

& also bc Marcus Crassus jr seems to be disinterested in taking up space in the political spotlight on his return from the Gallic Wars otherwise I’d be advocating for him on the basis of family tragedy compounded. it’s time to fill the space/memory/grave of your father and brother, buddy!

#no one can actually fill the role of Crassus and after the death of Pompey it’ll be impossible for a Crassus-like figure to exist #because Caesar has redrawn the lines and you can’t achieve the tris homines dynamic with those lines #ALAS. shoutout to Caesar for making things fucking boring. Today is hard again.

Yesterday was better, thanks to Daredevil and Echo being a distraction, but today, there were just a couple things that hit me in a row.

Cato's ashes are ready to be picked up, along with his little pawprint. I want so badly to have him here. But there's also a part of me that doesn't want to go. Because if I do, if I go and pick him up in that little urn, that's it. It's official. My old kitten chow is gone. And bless the vet hospital because when I quietly said thank you and that I'd try not to cry when picking him up, they told me they understood, and I didn't have to worry about that.

Then my general vet, who is amazing and had been helping us keep Cato comfortable, also sent us this card which arrived today. And she included a small poem of the rainbow bridge, and some local pet loss support groups. So I cried over that for a while.

And then a final package arrived today from one of my friends and her family - a frame, with a space on one side for a picture of Cato, with a customized Pawprints poem on the other side. And then I just cried all over again, especially because the poem is so relevant - I did have to let him go. And I was there for him as he went, and it was peaceful, he did drift off, all while purring in my arms as I stared into his big blue eyes one last time. So then I had to go cry over that.

I'm grateful for all of it. But god does it still hurt, and I miss him so, so much.

AND it's a gen fic centered around a character no one cares about #i wasn't expecting that one to do well #but it does suck that like. my most popular fics will never actually be my best ones #it's the same with bsd but THAT'S a whole other story #that's the phenomenon of everyone reducing bsd to the skk show and not giving the time of day to fics centered around anyone else #do u guys realize there are SO many other INCREDIBLE characters and dynamics???? #like i was doing that bsd fic rec event on twt and almost all of the fics recced were skk #meanwhile i was searching for anything NOT skk bc idk other ships and characters deserve appreciation too?? #and i don't even read much skk bc it's so hard to find anything that's. like.
