Wig time with Nimona!
My creature has a huge noggin. This one wears a 7/8, which for a YO size is a whopper. (I have a 1/3scale doll that wears that size.)
Tumblr media
"I like this one!"
Yeah, kid, but I want some options. This wig is popular in my house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Troll wig! DZAAAA!"
This one has been kicking around for years but was huge and a weird shape. I snipped out a section and sewed it back together, then turned the edge under. I'll try to get a shot in the daytime. This color is lurid. Nimona approves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"METAL!!"
I need to take a side shot. The Mohawk is a strip of fur, with the sides carefully hand-gathered so they will lay flat on that giant head. I stuck it on with pop-dots.
I also finally put a snap on those shorts.
I'm going to look for shaggy fur to make some goat leggings.

I have been experimenting with creating faux fur wigs for some of my dolls. Same basic pattern just changing direction of fur. The result was a wig for the Dirk Strider I have been working on. Now onto creating his glasses

I thought I was imagining 9S looking more mature in the white outfit, then I realized it’s the styling I did on his wig! It’s always amazing how much difference a wig can make. So here are the different iterations of his wig. I chose pictures with a similar composition so you can see the difference (it’s not that I’m a one trick pony, no…)
Tumblr media
This is straight from the bag. It’s a leeke wig that I replaced his original with and I loved him so much more with it that I was afraid to do anything to it for a long time
Tumblr media
After a while I finally decided to cut it. I wanted to get rid of the poofiness caused by excess fibers and didn’t like always having to brush his hair out of his face for photos.
I noticed the change in his look right away and was afraid that I would regret making him look different.
Tumblr media
Most recent update. I added layering and styled with wax. This was largely driven by doing the same to my cosplay wig and loving the difference. I appreciate a good cut but sometimes you really need some product to go the extra mile. This took his hair more out of his eyes and added a choppiness that I think makes his wig more lively looking. It also shows his eyebrows better! I think that may contribute to his feeling more mature to me?
Short wigs have a lot of nuance. I’ve really come to enjoy working with them.
Check below the cut for a jump scare of 9S when I got him with his original wig 😔

Ventilating Tutorial - Tailored Swiss lace Doll Head cap using a ventilating needle - Quick Tips:
quick tip 1/4: "Align your lace weave around the head horizontally so your knotted hair will part in a natural way."
quick tip 2/4: "To insure your cap stays in place, make a chin strap with a thread by attaching both sides of the lace together under the chin of your doll. "
quick tip 3/4: "If you plan to ventilate your wig with heat resistant synthetic fibers, you can also use them to sew your cap. Fold one in two and make a first knot, then do a seam with the needle. "
quick tip 4/4: "Ventilating through the 3 layers of lace at the back of the head can be quite tricky and tedious. Instead, sew the top part's edge horizontally and cut the excess lace. Then leave a narrow overlap at the bottom of the cap. "
--------------
I hope those can add some details to the original tutorial video about making the tailored doll head cap =^.^=
Have fun Ventilating !

The hair shrinkage is crazy.
All that yarn turned into one little puff of actual hair after brushing, conditioning and splitting

Found a faux fur bag at the thrift store for less than a dollar, so I used it to make a slightly more vibrant Poochie wig. I never did find the old pattern so I had to remake one with the cling film and tape method 😤
You can see how desaturated the pink is on her old wig in the first picture. This fur is still not PINK enough, but in all my years of casual lookin this is the closest I've found. Will keep my eyes open for next iteration.
I'm making fur ears too, but found these Hujoo Amie ears while rummaging through drawers and tried them on in the meantime. Of course they're cute on her tooooo

The wigs for my two smallest girls came in! Here's girl #1 with the wig fresh out of the box, uncut + unstyled. My plan is to cut it significantly shorter and give her pigtails
Also, you may notice her wings! Those are still in progress but I'll post some closer looks when they're done
[Image ID: Two pictures of a 13 cm/5 inch ball jointed doll being held in a hand. The doll has no clothes and has pale skin, red and yellow eyes and a surprised look on her face. She has a brown wig on that is worn down and long enough to go past her feet. She also has two sets of white wings. End ID]

Got a new wig in the mail today. It's from zerga studio and is an alpaca wig. It's so amazingly soft and I love it so much. My plan is to put some of the hair into little bins in the front long sections so you can see the colors below the white-blonde. It is currently too humid where I am so I can't work with the wig properly because it's just sticking to my hands since they are a bit moist from the heat. So please excuse the awkward angles of the photos because I was trying to show the beautiful colors below.
