Ah! Well you see, anon-

The way I personally see Dan and Donna's relationship is that it varies on timeline. Sometimes they're married, sometimes they're dating, or sometimes it's the case in the NPMD (and probably death match) timeline. Mutual Pining!

They're basically rivals to lovers in my mind- they immensely care about each other but don't want to admit it. Dan's blaming of Donna was in agreement to Jerry's claim, he's trying to convince himself he hates her so he automatically agrees with Jerry. Because then, Jerry might ask Dan if he liked Donna! Being in the Hatchetfield fandom is so weird because how do you explain your comfort character is this middle aged guy who loves coffee and his crush but hates musicals or this other guy who just seems like the office asshole but has actually seen The Horrors. Or maybe your comfort character is the teenager with a religious background who murders boys on the side, or a general working for a branch of the military that no one talks about, or a weirdly unhinged lawyer. Or hey, even two news reporters. Or maybe, just maybe, your comfort character is one of the eldritch beings dating all the way back to the beginning of time.
