Arin finally figured out the sense of familiarity towards the man, memories flashed from when he first caught a glimpse of him. to when he'd carefully place a flower in front of his portrait with a heart full of hope that their heroes would some day return.

Arin almost missed what he said in the midst of shock, with his eyes growing wide, and hands trembled as they gripped his arm bruisingly. His eyes narrow and twitch, and a smile curls his lips upwards almost sadistically, baring his fangs as he speaks.

"I WILL FIND YOU.”

This wasn't the hero that he remembered.

I FINALLY got around to watching the new Dragon's Rising clip and just- OMG

First, the entire lavashipping community has been FED

Like, every interaction those two had was just 🤌

PLUS, them being uncles to Arin and Sora!? WONDERFUL

Also- CHRONOSTEEL!?!? HELL YEAH

I mean, vengestone is cool and all, but the concept of chronosteel was so cool and had so much freaking potential that the og show(s) did absolutely nothing with, so THIS IS AWESOME TO SEE.

The fact that we only got little snippets of Kai using his fire power to fly like Iron Man before they learned Airjitzu will haunt me forever. Like, ITS SUCH A COOL IDEA. And was obviously useful every time we did get to see it. Plus, it was like the FIRST THING he did with his powers after getting them. Just- UGH (Sorry, siderant over)

Reunion and Meetings

                Daniella walked down the hallway on her way to the front door. The villagers had told her that there was a stranger who had walked up to the entrance of the village and said that he was following a voice. The guards sent word that they thought it best for her to question the stranger before it was decided what to do with him. Daniella brushed her hair out of her face as she rounded another corner, preparing herself for anything and everything.

                The village had been attacked a multitude of times in the five years since the Merge had put the Great Library in this valley, by demons and creatures alike. And while this was a sanctuary for the lost, Daniella would not allow any evil past the walls. Not now, after everything had happened. She stopped for a second at the portrait on the wall and gently placed a hand on the frame as she always did when she walked past. It was a portrait of herself and Cole, a gift from the villagers.

“Oh Cole, let’s hope that this stranger is friendly,” she whispered before continuing her journey down the hall, letting her hand slide across the frame lightly.

                Daniella took a deep breath as she rounded the last corner, gathering herself as the leader of the village. She could see the two guards and the raven-haired stranger, whose back was to her, standing in the foyer. Daniella was greeted by one of the guards, causing the stranger to turn around. Daniella’s heart leapt to her throat as she saw Cole standing there between the two guards. Her eyes watered as she slowly crossed the distance between her and Cole.

                Daniella slowly reached out a hand, hovering close to his cheek, a silent question of whether he was real. Cole leaned into her hand and closed his eyes as his hand found its way to her hip, pulling her closer to him. Daniella let out a choked sob as she threw her arms around his neck and buried her head into his neck. Cole wrapped his arms around her waist and held her tightly against him as if she would disappear if he let go. They stayed like this for a while before hearing a voice from a little way away.

“Mommy, who’s that?”

                Daniella stiffened as her eyes flew open. Cole was already looking at the speaker when Daniella pulled away slightly as if caught in a scandalous act. Cole started to ask something when Daniella pulled herself out of his grasp and between him and the two children. She held out one hand to shield the children while she held up the other in an act of defense.

“I can explain. Please, please just let me explain,” Daniella begged, still crying.

                Cole stared for a moment before nodding. He watched as Daniella turned and knelt in front of the children, murmuring something to them before kissing their foreheads, the little girl then the little boy before watching them run back down the hallway with giddiness. When Daniella stood up and turned around, Cole could see the smile on her face fall as she looked in his direction before leading him to her study. Cole knew the look in her eyes, he had seen it whenever she was lying about what she did before he and the others knew about the Great Library and Daniella’s real purpose.

                Once in the study, Daniella closed the door and made her way to her chair. Cole followed, sitting in the chair that was to her left, the chair that he had claimed as his years ago when he had started coming along on more of Daniella’s adventures. Daniella fumbled with her fingers, looking everywhere but at him while she tried to gather her thoughts, how to say what she wanted to without causing a fight. Cole watched her for a second before grabbing the bottom of his chair and pulling it over in front of Daniella’s. He sat back down and grabbed her hands and rubbed his thumb across her knuckles, trying to soothe her. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“You know how there was something that I wanted to tell you guys before the Merge happened?” Daniella asked, opening her eyes, and staring into his own dark emeralds.

“Of course, I do. You were so excited, and you had stopped everyone’s training and locked us in the game room to make sure we stayed,” Cole replied with a chuckle, remembering how she had playfully pushed him onto the couch and had told him not to move.

“It was big news. I was pregnant,” Daniella said, waiting for a response. Cole’s eyes widened slightly, searching her gaze for any hint of a joke.

“Wait,” Cole started, stopping, and looking down at her hands in his.

“Cole, they are your kids. I was so excited to tell you, but then the Merge happened, and we were separated. I looked for you, I really did. I tried to leave the valley, but as the pregnancy progressed, it got harder to walk. And I didn���t find Lotus until after the twins were born. But I couldn’t just leave them. I didn’t want to be just like my mother. I couldn’t abandon them like she did me. But I wanted to look for you and the others. I- “

“Hey, hey, hey. It’s not your fault,” Cole hushed, leaning closer and placing his forehead against hers. Daniella let out another strangled sob as she closed her eyes and leaned forward. Cole let go of her hands and wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her in. Her head found the crook of his neck as she continued to cry.

“I never stopped looking for you. I wish I had found this place sooner. I’m so sorry you had to do this on your own. But you did the right thing, you looked after those two kids. You’re a good mom,” Cole cooed through his own sobs as he nuzzled his face into her neck.

                He held her for a while as they both cried at what could have been and what was now. When Cole lifted his head from her neck, he brought up a hand from behind Daniella to wipe his face before placing a soft kiss on the side of her head. Daniella lifted her head slowly, wiping her own face. Cole moved his lip from the side of her head to her forehead, closing his eyes as he kissed her forehead gently.

“Emily and James,” she whispered.

“What?” Cole asked gently, leaning backwards to look at her.

“That’s the twins names. Emily Lily and James Montgomery Brookstone,” Daniella answered with a small smile.

                As if they had heard her, Emily and James opened the door and peeked their heads through. They stared for a moment at the two. Daniella leaned back with a smile as she stared at the two children at the door. She waved them over gently, sitting back into her seat as the two children climbed into her lap. James clung to Daniella’s arm as Emily perched on Daniella’s knee, staring at Cole.

“Children, this is your father,” Daniella said gently. Emily tilted her head to the side in curiosity as she studied Cole. James studied Cole from Daniella’s side, still clutching her arm.

“You’re the guy in the painting!” Emma said, pointing at Cole. Cole laughed as Daniella lowered Emily’s hand.

“Emma, no pointing. It’s rude,” Daniella scolded gently.

“Well, he is!” Emma retorted, turning to look at Daniella.

“You have a painting of me?” Cole asked with a grin.

“A gift from one of the villagers. She saw the picture I had from one of our dates and wanted to paint it,” Daniella replied, returning his grin.

“Hey buddy,” Cole said gently, reaching out to James. He buried his face into Daniella’s sleeve before peeking out. Cole drew his hand back slightly, his smile faltering a little bit. Daniella’s own smile faltered a little when she saw the hurt on Cole’s face.

“He’s shy. It might take some time for him to get comfortable with you. Don’t take it too personally,” Daniella said softly, running her hand through James’ hair.

                James pulled his face out of Daniella’s arm and stared right into Cole’s eye with his eyebrows furrowed. It took him a moment to gather his thoughts before asking his question.

“How come you were never here? Do you even love us?”

                Daniella’s face turned bright red as her eyes widened, Cole’s reaction mirroring hers. James continued to stare at Cole as he waited for his reply. Cole opened and closed his mouth as he tried to find the best way to answer the little boy’s question. His little boy’s question. Daniella leaned forward and gently placed a hand on Cole’s knee. Cole closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

“I can explain everything, if you’ll let me,” Cole replied. Both the twins looked at each other and nodded before turning their attention back to Cole.

“Okay. So, what do you know about the Merge?” Cole asked.

“Oh, Auntie Ozir said that it was this big thing where all the realms came together and that is why the Library, and the village are now in the valley!” Emily answered, throwing her hands up above her head in excitement. Cole froze before slowly turning his gaze to Daniella.

“Look, they like to ask a lot of questions,” Daniella said, a smile on her face.

“Okay, well when the Merge happened, your momma and I were trying to keep a lot of people safe. But something happened, and we were all thrown to different parts of the new realm. When I woke up, I couldn’t find your momma. I looked and looked and looked, but then I found some other people who really needed my help, and I had to help them.”

“Why?” Emily asked, tilting her head.

“Because they couldn’t protect themselves from the big monster.”

“Why not?” James asked.

“Because it was a really big monster.”

“Why?” Emily asked again. Daniella snorted, trying to hold in a laugh as Cole’s brows furrowed, trying to think of an answer.

“I told you. Listen little ones, remember when Mommy told you about how she protects the village from the monsters outside?” Daniella asked, looking down at the two children in her lap.

“Yeah! Because even though some of the villagers can fight, not everyone knows how to fight!” Emily replied excitedly.

“Well, it’s the same thing with you dad and the big monster. Those people needed his help to fight the monster because they didn’t know how,” Daniella explained.

“Right. And I needed some help to fight the monster myself. I didn’t want to leave those people there alone against the monster.”

“Why couldn’t you just bring them with you?” James asked.

“Because they’re stuck there. There is a mist that keeps them there and if they try to leave, it leads them back in,” Cole’s gaze dropped to the floor as he found it hard to look at the children.

“But you stopped the monster, right?” Emily asked, drawing Cole’s gaze back with the sound of hope in her voice.

“Of course, I did. Well, not alone. I had some help from Nya and Sora. We – “

“Wait, the others are alive?” Daniella interrupted.

“They are. Nya said that the others were out trying to find Dragon cores. We had one in the Land of Lost Things, but we had to stop the monster before they could take it,” Cole replied, placing his hand on her knee.

“They’re okay. At least according to Nya. And Sora, even though she still has a long way to go to be a ninja, she’s resourceful and stubborn. I think you would like her,” Cole continued.

“So, with the monster gone, you could leave again?” Emily asked.

“Yeah, and I followed this little floating orb, and it led me here. I never stopped looking for you guys. I just had to take longer than I would have wanted,” Cole replied and waited for the twins to make their judgements. They both looked at each other before giving a nod.

                James released his grip from Daniella’s arm and scooted forward and reached out for Cole’s cheeks. Cole leaned forward and let James squish his cheeks together, their faces inches apart. James stared into Cole’s eyes with his brows furrowed.

“Promise not to leave again?” James asked.

“Yesh,” Cole promised through squished lips.

                James stared into Cole’s eyes for a second longer before letting go of his face and wrapping his little arms around his neck with a tight grip. Emily followed suit on the other side, both kids nuzzling into their father’s neck. Cole wrapped one arm around both twins, using the other to grab Daniella and gently pull her in. Cole squeezed all of them gently.

“I promise never to leave any of you,” he whispered, trying to hold back the tears.

                After a moment, the family leaned back, wiping their eyes. Emily scooted off Daniella’s lap and into Cole’s lap while James decided to stay in Daniella’s lap, though he didn’t try to hide anymore. Daniella ran her fingers through the little boy’s hair with a small smile before looking up at Cole.

“So, you want to tell me what possessed you to follow the mysterious orb? Are you trying to be a ghost again?” Daniella asked.

“It was Wu’s voice, how bad could it have been?” Cole asked with a nervous smile.

“Would you like the list in alphabetical order, or in order from worst to best case scenario?” Daniella asked, the sass dripping from her lips. Both James and Emily giggled at Daniella scolding Cole.

“Well excuse me Petals, how was I supposed to know that?” Cole asked, trying to match her sass.

“Master Yang,” Daniella replied, leaning forward with a knowing smile on her lips.

“Listen, that was ONE time,” Cole replied, leaning forward, and holding up a finger.

“But he was evil!” Emily replied.

“How do you know that?” Cole asked, looking down and tickling Emily’s side, pulling out a giggle.

“We like to ask questions, remember?” James replied, sticking his tongue out.

“I see they got the Garmadon sass,” Cole said to Daniella.

“Oh, you’ve seen nothing yet.”

Big thank you to @x-catspace-x and @mariasparkles for both of your amazing fanart, i honestly was leaning more into not finishing this because of how mentally drained I've been, that was until you all just shoved motivation and joy into me which gave me the drive to finish this ^^

Words can't really express how much I wanted to get this done for y'all and be able to deliver and meet your expectations and with the little time I have actually irl, but I'm glad i got this done, and this illustration is actually a scene i have in mind, or scenes... Since of course my brain can't just settle on one.

I made two versions in case I do want to make this into a cover page for The Sham | Lost Memories.
