fallout (2024)
WARNING: i did not finish this. i didn't want to finish this. do not read or watch if you like happy stories. do not read or watch if you like the darkness in the fallout games. this show is dark in gruesome, permanently damaging ways. fuck this. the show may fucking nail the aesthetic of fallout, it doesn't get the vibe of fallout. fallout is set in a serious world where video game characters go through a video game plots in a world that's also often goofy. an equivalence would be if the mario movie had a serious burial of Luigi half way through and he just stayed dead. a clear sign that it doesn't get it.
trigger warning: gore, dismemberment of the living and dead. the dog dies.
as a big fan of fallout 4, even fallout 76, and a letsplay of Fnv this is very hype. and the references they are putting in straight is so cool to see. and damn, that's how you start a fallout. and now jus the references, seriously the vault hallways looks straight up lifted from fallout 4 (with high definition mods)
a vault having connections with a different vault? so that either is a process of kicking people the fuck out, or the evil experiment from vault tech... probably both. also love that they don't avoid the fucked up lore that really makes fallout fallout.
oh yea, this is how you start a fallout part 2, the personal angle. kind of bummed that she doesn't start with the classic bulky 10mm. and of course there's something about the protaganists family, because this is bethesda fallout (not derogatively, just perfect adaptation)
me, out loud: "ohhh, that's the pridwin, that's so cool" if you get me to talk out loud you did good. petty power politics? how very fallout of you. "i'm bringing him home". i'm very sorry but that's not how fallout works.
also loves that bethesda continues with inclusivity. Dane is nonbinary, played by a trans actor. it's so small, it plays no role (at least i find it HIGHLY unlikely that it will. nb people are just part of reality, and so they are now (finally) entering media.
the fucking junk jet made it in?
just "the ghoul". i wonder if we'll get more info on what ghouls are. i mean i know. i've probably heard more false things then there's true stuff about ghouls to know. but if you're new to fallout i think the vault is relatively obvious, and the brotherhood is pretty well explained. but the concept of a ghoul? practivally nothing outside of them being scary, can go "feral", and are weird. but it is only the first episode.
02
it wouldn't be fallout without skeletons in strange positions and/or environmental story telling. did they use fallout sound effects for the weird man drinking water? it may not be but that is diamond city. at least based of it. it looks so fallout that i can't even remember which of the places i've had a shootout in it reminds me of, it's too many.
not a fan of living gore. like fallout game gore is fine. shooting limbs of completely mindless things? fine. but not on a person, espcially not one that's then crudely taken care of. i'm way too terrified of something happening to me, it tends to roam in my mind anyways, even more so now that i've a reason to give a shit about my body, so the dismemberment of the living... ew, please, no more. at least it doesn't stick around too long (in which case why? just to be gross?)
"cyanide was the most humane product vault tech ever made"... accurate yet horrifying.
03
oh... so that's who the ghoul is. and that, well it'll create drama, and i'm curious how close it's to the story of nuka break. haven't seen that show in too long.
me, out loud, after wondering what that monster was "oh of course it was a gulper. wait, no, those are east coast, this was west coast." not really a plothole, monsters from one side often make their way to the other. harder for a water based creature. unless the same thing evolved twice.
oh, those eyes weren't just more human then expect. that thing was human... once.
the golden rule is severely lacking. don't do onto others as you'd have them to onto you. if i was into bondage and often horney how do you think it'd treat people if the golden rule was. a good rule is "treat others how they want to be treated" or "treat others how you can reasonably expect they want to be treated". the golden rule of the wasteland is pretty accurate though: "thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time". this rule is, in fact, recursive.
of course the waterchip is broken. this is fallout after all.
04
ok, no, i'm done. no dismemberment of main characters. fuck you. even if she does get it back. i'm done.

I just went through most of your character rants and analysis and I love them so much!❤️ It’s so nice to find someone with a lot of the same opinions as me, especially after seeing a good bit of Tim hate in TikTok comments lately. I love the animatics and cosplays on there but it sucks that it seems like it’s seen as cool to be nasty to Tim’s character over there, or maybe it's just the comments of the videos I get? It’s usually people thinking he’s a misogynist or that his character steals from and or makes other robins look bad to hype him up. I don’t get these comments because I feel like all of the bats have been written with misogynistic dialogue at some point, even the girls! I don’t understand why people latch this on to Tim as some big character trait. Maybe it’s some joke I’m just not understanding. Also with the bringing other characters down to prop his character up, isn’t that what pretty much every character that is currently in the spotlight does at some point (like Steph’s Batgirl run infamously does to Babs and Tim)? Why do they attribute this only to Tim? Also, all the robins steal traits from each in adaptations and other comic runs, again why do they act like it’s a Tim only thing? Basically, all the other Bats do what they claim they hate Tim for?! It’s genuinely mind-boggling to me!
TikTok's algorithm is the worst thing about that app, because it's got a terrible tendency to send peoples' feeds into negativity spirals, and that in turn fosters a community of people who are either looking for rage-bait, are mad because they can't get away from the rage-bait, or try to bait other people to rage because that gets them engagement. There's no way off the merry-go-round once you get on it either, it's just miserable; it's why I eventually had to drop the app and now only watch the videos ported over to YouTube or Tumblr.
For my money, the reason Tim specifically gets blamed for this thing that is very obviously a problem with comics as an industry, not with his character specifically, comes at least in part from the drama involving Steph.
Because see, defenses of Steph tend to start from a seed of truth -- she was the subject of sexist writing in War Games, both in the fact that they chose to fridge her for Bruce's manpain and that artists during cuts away to the infamous torture sequence (which did not need to be as long as it was) drew her in a highly sexualized manner. But some people took that truth and ran with it, leaping onto this frustrating, stupid second-wave feminist idea that women are inherently innocent and can only ever be victims of The Patriarchy and therefor if anything goes wrong in the life of a woman, it MUST be the fault of A Man. And since it can be hard to pin-point which comic creators are responsible for these things, the brunt started to fall on the in-universe men.
So all the men around Steph became scapegoats, and Tim is the man she's both around the most and whom she has wronged the most. And then that attitude got amplified by her Batgirl run, which does this really manipulative bullshit where it only brings up Steph's past in terms that make her look like a helpless victim with no agency, without acknowledging or even mentioning any of the things she chose to do of her own free will. It especially went out of its way to demonize Tim and paint him as unreasonable, judgey and sexist, because the alternative would mean acknowledging that Steph had done some really fucked-up shit to him in the last days of Robin, and it was in fact perfectly reasonable for him to want her out of his life.
But see, that would mean that a good guy (gasp) didn't like her. And had a good reason not to like her. And trying to write a character who rises to become a true hero because they're fighting to make up for the shitty things they did in the past is so much harder than writing a innocent widdle victim who only has the best intentions and whose only problem is that the world is unfair to her specficially. White women with no self-awareness can project themselves on the latter, but not the former.
Amplify that by the faction of Damian stans who treat fictional rivalries as Deadly Serious Business and the fraction of Jason stans who hate him for existing as the result of Jason's death, both of whom will jump on and amplify any criticism no matter how baseless and uninformed just to score points against their perceived "enemy," and there you go. That's what I've observed unfolding since about 2007 anyway.

The biggest WTF for me is when book fans are like well Louis is a liar in the books about why xyz didn't happen in the show and I'm like well if he's lying about everything then why am I watching this show?? are you gonna retell the entire first season with what really happened? cause I feel like the show is wasting my time then.
Any and all Lestat propaganda is lost on me. Anytime someones like well in the books he's not like this, I'm like I dont care that's not what he's like on the show so stfu.
Also I have no fucking clue what ppl are talking about with daniel + armand most of the time like I don't understand how the fuck s1 hints at anything other than an adversarial relationship at the moment.
im assuming ur the same anon as here..
and its like yeah its obvious some things didnt happen the way they did cuz its louis’s point of view & we will get another look at certain scenes but if the whole season is a total lie thats a waste of tv lol. granted the book iwtv narrative is more straightforwardly dark. theres no two interviews theres just one interview in the 70s (which was contemporary. iwtv published in 1976) .and the most that’s ‘contradicted’ in that imo is.. of course getting lestat’s point of view and all but also. ok. so you know how in the show lestat kills the tenor and clicks out on louis saying embrace what you are? in the book, lestat did the same thing but it was w/ these sex workers/prostitutes instead. in tvl lestat is like well actually these women were robbing the seamen so i wasnt the bad guy. this is actually why i think show lestat is nicer than book lestat! not rly cuz he did the same shit to lily. seriously tho book and show les were twins separated at birth and sent off to different universes imo. & in the book louis links w/ lestat whos bog body down bad holding a child and turning his back on him its irony its melodrama and we’re never sure if that scene actually happened. according to les well it didnt and louis was just a drama queen embellishing. thats what louis is, a drama queen embellishing things LOL. & the suspicion around armand is warranted like hes a powerful vampire with an adeptness in the mind gift, but he also loves lestat + his form of showing that is yandere crazy af aka torturing the people lestat cares about if not beating and tormenting lestat himself and its like..armand would do some shit like that hes crazy but itd be a bit boring if all of s1 was a big lie ?. let all the yaoi be problematic! i def think that theres some freaky shit going on between armandxlouis… the 1x07 reveal was like heyy danny ik i just checked out 5 seconds ago but i went from a bad bf to worse :3 the snake sheds his skin as ive dubbed it. i thought armand was rashid tvc until i seen the marius painting and the reveal had me sooo hype. the finale is the biggest divergence in the book besides the obvious changes (race, era, certain scenes etc etc) the fact that theres 2 interviews and that armand x louis are together in the modern day. in the book armand broke up with louis just before the interview, tried to mack on bog body struggle bus lestat and when all that failed he went to fuck w/ daniel. daniel was named in the third book finally and he was revealed to be w/ armand to have this crazy psychosexual bdsm worldwide cruising (well. armand watching danny fuck) blood airtagging romance rigmarole for a few yrs post interview cuz armand wanted someone to teach him what being human was like again and daniel wanted a demonic satanic zaddy. i am the devil’s minion (title chap drop!) armand’s put in a situation where he has to turn a dying 32 year old (book) daniel into a vampire. in the show clearly, daniel is old now but hes dying still. s1 doesnt show much so i can get why ur confused but in later seasons the nature of all their relationships between show armandxlouis , daniel & what happened and how theyll adapt the axd dynamic will be clearer to us all. i just think ppl r too committed to particular fan theories or takes rn. the ennui of being into an ongoing adaptation

↳ watch & rewatch drama list
@khaotunq tagged me, my sweet sweet bestie 💖
currently (actively) watching
609 Bedtime Story - technically on pause until I manage to find both final episodes. I was impressed at first and then it kind of lost me as it went on but I gotta know how it ends.
A Boss and A Babe - I hate this show's title but I love how surprising the second episode was for me. Wasn't super excited about it at first because most of the shows I've given up on halfway were by the same director but after episode two, I'm cautiously optimistic.
A Man Who Defies The World of BL - enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would! It's not my favourite, but I'm very curious about how it'll end now.
All The Liquors - Korea?!?! What is happening!!! I love how different this is so far, can't wait to see where it goes.
Bed Friend - this one came out of left field. I was NOT expecting it to go the places it's been going but I am not complaining, holy shit!
Chains of Heart - I understand nothing, I never know what's going on, I absolutely love it. I want it to stick the landing so bad.
Jack o'Frost - I love amnesia storylines, what can I say. Also it's intriguing so far.
Love Syndrome - Jesus Christ. Jesus Fucking Christ. I love garbage.
Midnight Museum - been LOOOOVING the early 2000s supernatural teen show vibes. Gun Atthaphan is always a win as far as I'm concerned and I'm doubly here for the queer vibes.
Once Again - also technically on pause. I took a break halfway 'cause I found out it doesn't have a super happy ending. Will finish it eventually.
Our Dating Sim - AAAAAHH!!!! just AAAAAAAAAAAAAHH! South Korean BLs have burned me so often right at the end, but I wanna believe in this one 'cause the mutual thing going on with neither (or more likely just one) of them not knowing has captivated me.
Past-Senger - too early to comment on quality, but I do love the premise! Let's hope it doesn't crash and burn.
The End of The World With You - why do I keep getting surprised by Japan putting out banger after banger is a mystery. I've been bracing for the emotional devastation of the finale for like five episodes. Can't wait to sob!
The Promise - this show inspires so much faith in me. I wanna believe in it, I wanna give it a million chances, and it hasn't disappointed me this far even though it hasn't been special either.
Tin Tem Jai - I don't want to be rude about it but this is bad. I don't know why I'm still watching.
As you can see, I'm watching an embarrassing amount of BLs at any given time.
rewatching
Love Mechanics
Not Me
Theory of Love
I don't really do rewatches but these three I'm always kind of in the middle of rewatching. And also,
KinnPorsche - I started a rewatch recently and I'm very very slowly working through it.
looking forward to
A Shoulder to Cry On - I saved this ages ago, I don't remember why but I'm excited all the same!
Cherry Magic (Thai version) - the one TayNew show I've seen I hated but somehow I'm unbelievably attached to them so this is exciting to me. Plus, I actually think Thailand could elevate this story which, for me, as far as the show is concerned, wasn't great.
Cooking Crush - I cried when they announced this 'cause I thought I'd missed my window to watch a new OffGun show as it aired. OFFGUN! OFFGUN! OFFGUN!
Last Twilight - I thought Vice Versa was a waste of the JimmySea chemistry, but I wanna believe in this one.
Laws of Attraction - I couldn't get through TSWL because it was too soap opera-y for me, but I heard wonderful things and this immediately caught my eye when I saw JamFilm would be working together again!
Middleman's Love - I was infinitely more excited when it was a Mii2 show but Yim has impressed me so much so far in Bed Friend that I'm looking forward to it again!
Only Friends - do I even need to say anything?? I think this is my most anticipated one this year, yes probably even more than Wuju Bakery.
Our Dining Table - I loved the manga this is adapted from so I'm excited.
Transplant - I believe this will come out eventually. I will believe it 'till my dying day.
Why R U - I loved the Thai version so I'm really curious about what Korea will do with it!
Wuju Bakery - the premise is so ridiculous to me but JeffCode so grhgarhagraghrahgarhgraghgrahgrah

I fear this is going to be long so I'm sorry in advance. I've been made aware unfortunately of the latest drama of the authors on twitter because of their unsurprisingly new dumb novel and it made me think. If boc buy the rights they should be able to do what they want in the new season. So I don't understand. Sure they can say no but would they really say no to money. Because that's what they get out of it at the end and if they really love trash they can just write garbage novels on their own. I'm thinking about Bridgerton right now because one of my friend watched season 2 because it was her favorite book from the 8 books and she told me the only thing that was the same as the book was the name of the characters because their storyline was totally different they basically throw the whole story in the trash for their own adaptation ( in this case it was a mistake because the book was better ) but what I mean is they can do that for season 2. Seriously who would want to do another season of basically the same thing with porsche vegas running away together and working together while lying to kinn. There's no characters development, no development for the relationship it's boring. After the season we had and their last scene we should have kinn and porsche as a unity I know it's not always gonna be like that for 1 whole season because of their personal feelings for their families and the angst but at least we should see them try! Talking about angst, one thing that annoyed me is if you gonna make porsche be with vegas behind kinn's back you better give me the payoff. I want to hear what kinn feel about that, I want him being allowed to be disappointed because porsche don't give him the choice to choose what to do. And this what why they fail between ep 13/14 because this is kinn's story. Being hard to trust someone because his lover isn't honest and with their conversation at the grave scene and in the previous ep abt lies like previous anon mentioned, I expected to have something. How and Why porsche could have his disappointed and mad moment at kinn in ep 12 for something kinn did when porsche was a stranger to him but you gonna give nothing from kinn side now 🌚 anyway my point is they have a good fondation now for kinn and porsche they shouldn't ruin this because the authors doesn't know how to write something. And they change a lot of things this season from the novel already so I hope they buy all the rights now and say fuck to the novel completely. The way kinn and Porsche series are my babies loves and I couldn't care less abt kinn/porsche novel we talk a lot about how in the novel kinn is a asshole but I don't forget that novel porsche is homophobic. His reaction when he learned kinn is gay wasn't the same reaction my love porsche serie had. And as you already said the thing that was awful and annoying for the show was how the fandom talked more about the novel than the show ????? It was always and when kinn do that for weeks( the worst he did in the novel ) yet in the show NOTHING like please watch the show and talk about these characters and what they are doing not why the novel characters did. The authors really just wrote problematic shit after another. And now they want to act as if the success for the show is on them please. P'pond better have my back again if he really want a season 2 and give me characters development, a couple who love each other and try/fight for each other, give kinn a pov and a voice when shit go down and write things that make sense to the characters. Let them learn from their past mistakes and not doing it AGAIN unless we see they have no choices. And please let the show being about kinnporsche against the world as this should and not vegasporsche against the world. I already don't care about vegas but this doesn't help. We never saw kinn and porsche working together can you believe lmao wtf I think if season 2 happen it will be in 3 years from now so I hope that will give them time to do the right thing. 🤞
You actually raise a good point, but I think someone on Twitter mentioned that it's different in Thailand. Like, in regards to royalties, creative license, rights, how much power and influence the author truly has over a show/movie once another company/network takes over to bring it to our screens.
I included some pictures of what I'm talking about, and this user goes into better detail on this topic. I only included 2 snippets of the thread but you can go here if you want to read the rest of it.

Because of this, Daemi could have 'resigned' from BOC as of May 2022 (as a staff member claimed today) but their presence is still very much felt and heard because I doubt this show will ever fully be 'free' of them. Just as long as these authors are the creators and owners of this series (or rather the novel it's based on), I don't think BOC can actually do anything in this sense. I don't know if Pond could even do anything in this situation either, because I'm not fully aware of Thailand's laws surrounding this aside from what the Twitter user stated above.
We know Daemi allegedly has an issue with keeping their hands to themselves and refraining from making weird sexually inappropriate comments. We've also allegedly seen instances of them trying to ice Apo out for some reason, even though he is the lead character. It's strange, isn't it? Daemi decides they want to do a photoshoot to make book covers for the box set edition of the show, but they exclude Apo. How the fuck does that work? Considering the fact that Daemi enjoys certain characters over others and are extremely friendly with a certain cast member, then I already know what a S2 is going to look like. Click on that link to see who Daemi made sure was present and accounted for along with Mile. Follow your nose, friends! Follow the trail of breadcrumbs. If you know, you know. I'm just throwing some things out there to get you guys to think about the consequences of all of this. You could get a S2, but what do you think that's going to look like?
As always, implicit bias will always reign supreme. It will always affect everything you produce, because no one is objective. If you as an author hate an actor that plays one of your characters, then what do you think is going to happen to that character? Do you think that character will live happily ever after? This aspect of this argument isn't important at all in the grand scheme of things, but it is important to note how all of this can and will affect a possible season 2. I'm not trying to make it seem as if that's the most important thing we need to be focused on here because it's not. I'm just connecting the dots here so you can see how all of this is just a spider web of bullshit.

Okay fine, guess I’m gonna talk about Kinnporsche now.
This isn’t a review or a rec post so much as, My Thoughts on KinnPorsche, let me show you them.  (Anyone?  Appropriate extremely dated reference is appropriate.)
So despite my love of many danmei and danmei-sourced media, I don’t do a lot of BL series.  I dipped my toe in the yaoi and BL manga pool a while (like a decade?) ago and just never got grabbed by it.
And BL series have several points that generally count against them for me: one is the amount of them that feature very young characters/actors and focus on school stories.  Look, I’m in my 40s.  That starts to feel creepy real quick, as well as just being boring to me.  I don’t like a lot of modern drama PERIOD because it bores me, I much prefer historical/fantasy/etc.
Secondly, the style of humor that tends to be used in BL involves a lot of second hand embarrassment and that shit is LETHAL to me.  Like I physically cannot watch it.  So while I’ve been curious about various BL series, especially Taiwanese and Thai series, I’ve rarely actually decided to watch them.  (Really the exception was Cherry Magic, which was fine but didn’t do a huge amount for me because it was so sickly sweet and also so embarrassing.)
Okay, but Kinnporsche had a huge amount of hype around it and I was like, what’s up with this and how is it different?  And first of all, the fact the two mains are Entire Adults was a big draw.  (The actors are 27 and 30, thank god for adults.)  So I watched ep 1 (motivated mostly by a gifset of the fight scene cause yes, I’m that messy thank you).  And I liked it a lot.  Like, it felt a little like a guilty pleasure, a fantasy mafia fanfic world where all the men are allergic to shirt buttons but very compelling in its way.
Tumblr media
I guess, if you don’t know, I’ll briefly talk about the plot.  Kinn is the heir to a mafia family and his life is saved by Porsche, a bartender, who is recruited to be his new bodyguard thanks to him paying off a large family debt.  Porsche is an entire disaster of a person, addicted to getting drunk and screwing women in alleys and fucking things up a lot, but has a heart of gold.  Kinn is extremely gay and really pissed about how attracted he is to this dumbass.
So anyway, then the second episode dropped and I HATED EVERY SECOND OF IT and nearly quit the show entirely and also nearly posted a long rant about it.  The second episode is pretty much entirely Porsche being embarrassed and embarrassing as he’s introduced to the EXTREMELY unrealistic world of Being a Bodyguard for Kinn’s Family.  (I would just like to say that if I were going to adapt this story, I’d set it in a near-future sci-fi world because that would explain the amount that it resembles anything the least bit believable or realistic.)
But so I spent like a week wondering why everyone seemed to love this show so much and didn’t seem to have the same problems with it I did.  Like, for real, I was in the tags like...Explain To Me, and I guess that’s why I watched ep 3.  And..it wasn’t as bad.  Part of what I didn’t like in ep 2 was the character of Kinn’s older brother Tankhun and getting into that would be a long conversation, but he’s...an extremely quirky, very effeminate apparently queer person who is “crazy” and....yeah.  But he improved once I saw he wasn’t just a joke or meant to be an antagonist.  (Cause he felt kinda like the “evil Wrong Kind of gay” to contrast with Kinn’s “right” kind of gay, but that’s not where it went really, so okay, fine.)
Tumblr media
And to be clear, the show continued to have Moments.  Like the chemistry of the leads is Insane and the nature of the relationship is totally My Kind of Thing.
Then episode four...well upped the stakes.  By getting quite a bit more problematic, but also...in a way that...had my attention.  (More on this a little later, I’m avoiding spoilers now.)
And episode five showed more skill in the way the story was told and ALSO telegraphed their intention to handle the problematic elements seriously, which made me tentatively back on the show’s side.  (Okay, I was really enjoying it by this point, ngl.)
And then they dropped episode six on us.  Episode six.  In which, our two heroes are handcuffed together and lost in the jungle For Plot Reasons and have to Work Together to Survive and also Work Our Their Shit.  And omg omg omg.  It was literally the best thing. Like, tropey, sure, the whole show is, but omg it was done so well and so skillfully and beautifully acted.  The whole episode is just...adorable and touching and moving and you get to watch these two really fall in love For Real and also I fell in love with them at the same time.
Tumblr media
And episode seven continued to give me confidence in this show’s ability to both surprise and handle complicated material a mature and thoughtful way.  There are so many episodes left, and wtf is this show going to do to us?
I will say this show is very much not for everyone.  It’s pretty violent and not really ashamed of its violence.  It’s a mafia story and gets fairly dark in that regard, not always condemning the violence either.  It’s not gory or like Gross about it.  But still.  Must enjoy morally grey characters.  (Probably ESPECIALLY since the main series villain is also one of the secondary romantic couple?  Which I’m personally not looking forward to because I’d like him to burn in a fire, but we’ll see.)
It’s NOT a show for anyone who, say, finds the work of MXTX too morally impure.  Like, do we have some consent issues?  Yup, we sure do.  But big trigger warning for sexual assault and impaired consent and the aftermath of those things.  Which I think is actually handled pretty damn well ultimately, but YMMV so be warned.
Discussion of sexual assault below the cut, also spoilers.
So to get at my feelings about ep 4, etc.  In ep 4, for anyone who hasn’t seen the show, Porsche is drugged by the villain character who attempts to rape him.  Kinn finds him in time and insists on being alone with him, and no one else taking care of him.  Porsche throws up on both of them, which leads to them getting mostly undressed, and is very intoxicated by the drug and comes onto Kinn STRONG.  Kinn tries to resist but eventually gives in and they have sex.  The morning after, he is pretty closed off about the whole thing.  Porsche reacts like...someone who has been sexually assaulted, mostly.  They don’t directly address it with each other until ep 6, when they explicitly do and it’s really well done, IMO.
This pairing is obviously messy and what happens in ep 4 was clearly crossing a line, but the narrative TREATS it as such.  Porsche struggles with the aftermath, both being seemingly rejected by Kinn but also pretty clearly in the smoking the bathroom scene, with the fact of having been assaulted by Kinn.  But so does Kinn, who very obviously KNOWS he did wrong and fucked up and is having a hard time dealing with it and honestly this all felt real to me.  A lot of it is in the performances which, these two DON’T stop impressing me.
Ep 7 has a little bit of the same messiness.  I don’t think Porsche is actually (that) drunk at the end, I think he was faking it.  But there’s a little bit of toxicity in the beginning of the scene with him and Kinn, from both sides.  (Understandably from Porsche’s part.)  And working it out through sex isn’t top of the Relationship Therapy Guidebook.
But also, it feels Real to me.  Like, real relationships, especially sexually intense ones, can be very messy at the beginning in just this way.  And I’m honestly happy to see this kind of messiness portrayed because there’s so much out there that is sanitized into perfection, in which fictional characters aren’t allowed to do anything imperfect at all.
On the other hand I’m way less enthused about the prospect of Vegas getting a redemption/romance arc.  And not very happy with the other romance with Chay and Kim, though I don’t know if that’s going to be a thing or what, but...err, it makes me squirm both for embarrassment reasons and for Kim being ethically dubious AF.
Like I’m enjoying Kinn and Porsche so much because they can take each other’s shit, yanno?  Porsche, for all his sad puppy eyes, and Kinn for all his fragility, they can both take and dish it.  I feel like they are on the same level in a great way.  The other pairs?  Not convinced, gulp.

pat/will/2p0/the psychotic narcissist addicted to attention that builds pillars of lies to try to keep a subject audience enwrapt with things they could find themselves/whatever you want to call yourself right now
i don't work for wb
i never said i work for wb
follow the conversation dipshit
tv syndicates aren't wb
wb just needs them
i know you have a very tiny smooth mouse brain that doesn't understand the media world or what these things are but even. like. a modicum. of fucking. effort. one inkling. just. googling. what the fuck a tv syndicate is. or like. what Gray tv is. like jesus dude it's right there on my profile in BIG FONT TITLE. DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT NEXSTAR *IS*?
"says he works for wb" by god. you just straight up lying to your plebs now
dude. it's over. you're just building yourself a bigger and bigger bomb
this is going where its fucking going no matter how loud you scream, and every person you lie to along the way is a stick of dynamite you're shoving up your ass right now.
like dude even they've started figuring it out, catch a clue on some of your asks. They all know what the fuck it is. Hell so do you, that's why you adapted your fucking dialogue from "no cas" to "some cas", but just like your Fake Pilot screaming or No Cas screaming, that's gonna wash up to and we all know it
so keep shoving that dynamite up your ass dude. i can't wait to make the fandom drama wiki update, because the catastrophe you're arranging for yourself right now, and the embarrassment you are setting yourself up for no matter HOW MUCH YOU FUCKING DENY IT, won't just peak spn fandom history. this is gonna be like. multifandom historic legendary fail dude, whether you accept it yet or not.
especially with all the attempted hub manip you're trying with winchester update accounts or spnscripthunt. bc like, first the oldies are gonna watch you explode but you're also trying to king of the fandom filter the new kids in who will know you less than a MONTH before realizing you're a whole fucking clown.
unlike you dude, i dont fuckin bluff. and you know it. you know it from your denials of berens intent or confessions or original endings or omissions or pilots or the nature of the reshoots and every other fucking magnificent fucking failure of your interpretation of M&Gs and shit to date.
Same shit dude.
Just as true as the confession. just as true as the roadhouse ending. just as true as the omissions. just as true as the script being real. just as true as the nature of the reshoots. If you haven't noticed this very solid continuity of who knows what's going on while you don't, catch a clue sweetie. We're going where we're fucking going even if you shit your pants about it five times a day and twist up a new lie
lmao "works for wb"
tell me you don't understand ANYTHING about how fucking tv works without telling me
your white privilege or fragility or denial or screaming or pants shitting isn't gonna save you from the production ring of the dirty south and the ethos that runs it. sorry
I've asked 21 times now for you to put your money where your mouth is. you put 5K down to prove yourself wrong about the omissions. Put down another 5K to bet against me that I'm wrong, or shut up, you fucking coward.
your fuckin narrative is more spun out than the baton rouge-new orleans mississippi strip while you try to dodge everything man, and you just about to make port in nola and get jumped by an entire ass season. you haven't let it click yet. we're not in vancouver anymore, toto.
Nola doesn't do your white fragility civility game bullshit. get in line. and trust me, you're at the end of it, like the roughly 12% nola transplant yuppies that refuse to sync to the culture bc they wanted a party town, there's ur anglos. The POC and gays in nola don't make room for them. they won't make room for you. No amount of assumed white privilege will change it.
like i know this DEEPLY upsets 2p0 and kelios, but no matter how loud 2p0 gets and no matter how loudly his followers attack the crew in result and no matter how many strings of pearls kelios clutches, Nola isn't gonna fuckin care. There's a reason they picked here to film, in gray territory no less, with WB on a leash and subject to gray in the scale of things now, and even nexstar needing to play nice to turn profit like. Whether or not you fucking comprehend what's happening, it's happening, and your white opinions won't save you. In fact they're more likely to cause doubled down spite in the opposite direction.
Your low IQ and rube-ish agenda spinning doesn't change reality. You're just used to the comfortable white reality of Vancouver and the shooting arrangement there. You're used to, actually since about 1998, and most loudly since 2005 and final wave 2012, tv being manipulated and black and gay people stripped out by various WB shit while you screamed whitely how progressive CW was. But we're not in that world anymore. We're in a world where WB, CW, Nexstar are all now subject to and dependent on atlanta and satellite city resources, at a point where WB doesn't have its own airspace and needs ours, at a point where they're becoming the new direct power pipeline for both silver screen and networks like NBC. Becoming seminal centers of film industry projects via Gray. Like. you not fucking comprehending that the media shift here won't change it and anybody that can make actual impact doesn't give two FUCKS about your white sobbing on tumblr is your goddamn problem.
Nexstar has no choice but to let jensen do what he wants, and the new WBD structure gives him absolute godkingemperor freedom, and you know at the end of the day what he really believes, which is why you fought so hard against admitting that WBD works the way WBD works, because you're terrified of that power and Jensen's freedom
And he's backed by a city of 400 year long rebels in an invisible nation that is older than the united states itself. And one of the largest tv syndicates that owns all the necessary metro areas for nexstar to get the ratings it needs to save the stations it bought CW to save to begin with lmfao enjoy, shitheads.
black rebel controlled media is back, whether you accept it or not. within 2 years NBC is going to be almost all black entertainment and in the meantime, WB's new slots are all going to skew--Nola's direction, while heavily black, is more multicultural POC dominance, but still powered by the same support systems. And within 3 years, we're going to see silver screen releases reflective of atlanta and new orleans populations, not white vancouver or hollywood suburbias they hire One Black Person to check a box on lmfao
that's really what this pearl clutching of 2p0's is. it's screaming denial that the "Uncivil blacks" or whatever with all his civility politics are, in fact, taking media and power back from presumptuous white assholes like themselves, and there's nothing anybody can do about it. So sorry for your fragile white feelings. No, wait, no we're not, go fuck yourselves, all of you. You dismantled TBS, Atlanta's national supercenter, collapsed their airspace, replaced black media with white and patted your white selves on the back for progress for giving a cookie of one black batwoman. kjsdfjskdjFKSDJKSJDFs
bruhhhhh its over. Anyone old enough to remember the days of pre-CW TBS, UPN and other major channel diversity spreads that dominated primetime, we're fucking back, and we don't care if you want to cry about not liking a gay ship on tumblr, we really fucking don't, this is all payback.
Really it's just. such a psychic bubble they're building. they really imagined I premeditatively lied for upwards of six years about my gulf ring history, as if I psychically predicted a spinoff would film here all these years later, and they realized even their doxxing attempts actually just reinforced what I told about how I got into it, rather than disproving it. Yeah, doxxing. They're that desperate to tell themselves otherwise.
I'm. Guys. Holy fuck as a white person I genuinely understand why black people hate white people. It's like you can't mentally detach yourselves from the anchor that the world no longer orbits around you. You'd rather sit there in your house of denial and then pretend you didn't read all these posts when, you know. IDK. The end of the road is what i said. and in 2 years it's all black entertainment like I said. And oops must be a coincidence like all the other times aaron was six months to 2 years ahead of the curve on bts info you guys denied. Oop. Totes coincidence. ALl one big pile of coincidence. Just. A mountain of entropy leading us to this point.
Guys. again. even if you ignore the black media takeover it's happening and um, it's gonna influence you. But white people ignoring what black people are doing is how atlanta's gotten away with taking back national airspace without anyone noticing so i mean. i guess. it's a weird way for white people to be helpful "nono, keep arrogantly ignoring us, u right, we powerless, we sorry white man." meanwhile they're taking over broadcast tv and bitching about how stupid you crackers are
god what a simp. work for wb. wb is the powerless bitch in this situation actually, why the fuck would i want to work for wb, we're taking it for a walk on a leash right now. do you still not compute the scale events are happening at.
like dude wtf we already took care of wb how are you so behind, it was nexstar that needed to be kept in check. you just. you just really don't comprehend. what the fuck is happening. oh my god.

so i was looking up chai jidan just now, to make sure that i got it correctly, that it’s ab’s author’s name. and i put it in, and the first autocomplete for her name wasn’t advance bravely actually, it was are you addicted. and i’m like, hm, are you addicted? it is another novel by this author? and the devil on my shoulder is like, look it up, look it up. and who am i to say no to looking up a chai jidan novel?
so it is, another old one too. maybe even older than advance bravely. read the description, it’s about 16-something-years old step-brothers? cool, cool, i think, moving on (i mean i watched a couple of episodes of citrus, who am i to say anything). i’m pretty sure this novel is also as long as war and peace by the way. anyway, i go on its good reads page, i’m already falling down this rabbit hole, might as well fall further. i ignore that addicted’s “readers also enjoy” immediately suggests me kinnporsche the novel. chai jidan’s novels’ readers that also enjoy kinnporsche? i never met these people, i don’t know them. do no contact me about them. ANYWAY
incredible reviews varying from “this book is trash and not in a fun way” and “STOP ROMANTIZING ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP!!“ to “1176 pages of pure bliss” (the contrast made me lose my shit). one review from a person who thinks that censorship is good because it cut all the shitty things from the novel to make a live action adaptation, well, enlightens me to the fact that there is an adaptation. we’re ignoring the other parts of this review and moving on
so i look up the adaptation, it’s from the year 2016, an ooold one. (they’re making a 2022 remake apparently? if it will be made of course, idk how things are rn). and like advance bravely is from 2017, so you can imagine. you can imagine right. you can? anyway, i scroll down to the cast and WHO DO I SEE THERE
WHO DO I SEE THERE
THE GUY WHO I WATCHED TWO DRAMAS WITH AND IN BOTH HE PLAYED THE SAME FUCKING QUESTIONABLE CHARACTER
I SEE JOHNNY MY MAAAN
Tumblr media
akdsjsad i DON”T KNOW why it made me laugh as much as it did, it’s still making me lose my shit. but here’s my man johnny playing the lead role in 2016 live adaptation of chai jidan’s novel “are you addicted?”. JOHNNYYYY
can you guess which role he plays? because it’s the fucking rich boy role again. i almost wouldn’t be surprised if at some point cao yuchen would appear to lose to his character in romantic endeavors.
JOHNNNYYYYYYY
anyway, it has 15 20-minutes long episodes and an 18+ rating for violence! and profanity! 15 episodes that are 20 minutes long.... it could be watched so quickly........

Alright, I feel like discussion and memeing has calmed down enough. By which I mean I kept putting off doing this while it was relevant and, nearly three months after the initial outcry, I’m finally doing it. So that’s something right? Anyways, let’s talk about Archive 81.
(spoilers for season 1 of the Netflix adaptation and season 1 and 2 of the podcast, light spoilers for season 3) (also this one is really long, I think it’s good but just keep that in mind)
I was not a fan of Archive 81 when the Netflix series was released but through the online discourse I quickly determined “podcast good, adaptation bad” and added the podcast to my listen later pile. My family, around the time floated the idea of watching the series, I quickly explained why thing bad based off of what I’d gathered online and left it at that. Two months later they started watching it anyway while I was out of the house. Determined to prove that the adaptation had both straightwashed the lead and failed to adapt its proclaimed source material I decided to finally listen to the podcast.
I listened to the first season in a day, probably not the intended way of consuming the show but I did anyway. It was fantastic, I was taken by the world and the ideas being presented in the work. I watched the first two episodes that night and let me tell you, what? A huge part of the original show was the idea of layers of story, my interpretation of the first season hinged heavily on this. On the top layer was yourself, the listener, then Mark’s story of releasing the audio, then Dan’s of cleaning the audio, then Melody’s of recording it, then the people of the Visser building, and finally, the Song. Each layer gets weirder, more abstract, the people of the Visser blatantly discuss the overarching themes of the show and are weird actualizations of them. The final abstraction is just a melody, a song that speaks of such powerful ideas that it has the power to reshape the world, this song is being pulled out of a realm of truly abstract concepts by the Visser building itself and the stories told within. Every layer is trapped inside the story once they start to consume it because it speaks to them so deeply.
Let’s talk about the Netflix show. For starters the audience isn’t so involved, that’s fine, that’s even something that later seasons mostly drop. Second, the themes of the original have all been changed to the point where this isn’t the same story. Lastly, half the characters are unrecognizable and some have different names for no reason. What was wrong with Liam Davenport, I thought that was a perfectly good name. Why’s he Virgil now? Alexa is now Annabelle, which I do actually understand, it’s Amazon’s fault. I’ll talk more extensively about the changes to them and the rest of the cast after I quickly touch on the changes of theme.
(the following paragraph is the only time I will resort to swearing in this essay so that the true depths of my anger directed at the following change can be felt)
WHO THE FUCK IS KALEGO OR WHATEVER THE FUCK. They grounded it in demonology and witchcraft for no reason, the metaphor of story and art was beautiful but James Wan loves his Christian devils, demons, and ghosts, oh my! So much of the theme is lost in the clusterfuck of lore and history that’s entirely pointless. Why is all this bloated dog shit being stuffed inside of a tight story? I’ll tell you why, it’s because they had to make a 2.5hr podcast into an 8hr TV show because that’s what makes good bingeable content. That’s what all TV shows have to be now if they want to be popular, fuck making good art. Also Dan can just fucking leave now, just waltz right out of those big intimidating mental gates and have a nice little chat in a coffee shop away from Melody and all that drama. It would be one thing if he was talking with Davenport but he’s talking with Mark another level headed person who can give him serious advice.
On many other levels the adaptation fails to understand the very blatantly displayed themes from the show. The show doesn’t shy away from talking about themes almost directly with the audience, in what is admittedly my least favourite moment of the show the podcast addresses that audience, condescending on theories deemed stupid and generally dishing shit on some people, but this is blatant, barely hidden, and most importantly it’s doing something. Here’s a quick quote from the second episode “I’m interested the totality of human experience, and how difficult that is to stuff into a narrative. The ideas that can’t be expressed in language, how something greater than a story can shift the way we see the world, like, like calling someone by a wrong name so many times that it becomes the right name. So that they believe it.. The idea of the piece is to create music that can demolish barriers. And to get people to build their houses with the debris.” That’s it, that is a core component of the podcast, that’s what makes it what it is and it’s completely absent from the Netflix show. Added in are themes of family legacy which are over there in season 3 of the podcast but have no place here in season 1. The Baldung Witches are more of this theme of legacy and they’re replacing of the Cult of Purity removes yet more themes of no one really being good. Alright, now we can talk about what’s left of the characters from the podcast.
Melody, aside from being straight washed, which don’t worry, I’ll get to, is now an uncaring asshole for no reason who turns on her friends and barely cares about anyone in the Visser. Podcast Melody grew attached to the people of the Visser, she wanted to fight for them even though she was getting no material gain from it. And when she fought she was cunning, she outsmarted Samuel in their final confrontation and defeated an eldritch Leviathan, leading her to becoming a fearful and powerful force in the Unexplored Territory. To really put the cherry on the cake Netflix Melody becomes the antithesis to who she was in the podcast by becoming a damsel in distress, trapped in the Otherworld cradling her childhood memory of being abandoned by her mother. This moment resulted in the following comment from my mother; “Oh she’s like Will in Stranger Things now.”
I suppose Melody disliking the residents is reasonably justified because the people of the Visser are for the most part completely different, which is to say that they’re all members of Samuel’s cult now for no real reason. Jesse is Jessica now because a young black girl living in poverty is less threatening than a teenage black boy living in poverty. She’s also a sacrificial lamb instead of someone who Melody unnecessarily brings into this and ends up getting killed. Chris is really depressed and gets pushed off the building by a member of the cult, Chris who, while going through withdrawal was still cracking jokes and being at least interesting. Chris and his other nameless, lineless druggie friends are way creepier, made insane by the power of the mold in the Visser building. All around Chris is a lot less fun which is annoying because he was such a Character in the podcast, like what a guy. All the other interesting people in the Visser are gone except for Tamara who is the same but is now part of the cult and gets sacrificed by Samuel in Jessica’s place.
Speaking of Samuel he’s now just openly lying to people and whining and sniveling like a kicked puppy, instead of cleverly avoiding people by using the building’s free flowing architecture and knowing how stories work and that this is a story so certain things are going to happen. The final confrontation between Melody and Samuel is one of the coolest in the podcast but in the show I can neither hate Samuel for his villainy or really feel like I can cheer for Melody because now they both suck. I don’t care about Samuel’s big evil plan because Samuel doesn’t know what he’s doing and not in the cool podcast way of “he can just barely begin to truly understand the implications of his actions” but in the “he’s an idiot who is trying too hard to act manipulative.
Dan has a tragic backstory tying him to the Visser building now. Why? (because they hired a popular actor and needed to beef up his role) He was just an unfortunate guy with the skills Davenport needed in the podcast, none of this family legacy bullshit, same goes for Melody really. I’ve already touched on the Baldung Witches aspect of this but it bears repeating, the Cult of Purity which they replace was explicitly villainous, they are one of the main antagonists of season 3 and are consistently described as extremists. In the Netflix show, the witches burned down Dan’s house killing everyone in his family but him. This is barely a twist and doesn’t play any real role in whether or not Dan trusts them because now they’re out of time and they need to wrap it all up with a nice cliffhanger.
I’m not going to talk about Alexa/Annabelle, her remaining gay, her character “arc”, or the fact that she does nothing for 30 years but paint in a mental hospital while seemingly having full mental function, because that would take up a whole new essay.
That leaves us with one last thing to talk about. Melody Pendras and her straight washing. Like so many of the other changes I’ve discussed this comes from an attempt to appeal to the general public with a nice straight relationship between the two leads. Dan falling in love with Melody serves as essentially his only motivator for doing the ritual and venturing into the Otherworld to rescue her. Their relationship bends space and time and while yes, time travel does briefly feature in the podcast this just comes across as a failed attempt to make the plot seem so confusing that you can’t understand it, let alone find any holes. This fails rather spectacularly and just become annoying. Enough said about the weird time mechanics of the show. Of course, I’d be remised not to mention the brief plotline where Samuel attempts to woo Melody, though this is so quickly dropped it seems like the writers must have had at least some self awareness.
So there you have it, the issue with the Netflix adaptation of Archive 81 is that it attempts to appeal to a large audience like the directors other projects do. This is something that the source material never does, as it always tries to find new and interesting stories to tell in a narrative that remains malleable and tonally distinct between seasons. Netflix tried to take a bunch of their most popular shows and weld them into a cohesive series but ended up with project that has an artistic sheen but no real core. It’s almost funny looking at season three of the podcast as a commentary on the Netflix adaptation, especially the finale, though I’ll give no further spoilers. Netflix also rather hilariously represents LMG which might be another reason why they failed in adapting so many themes.
Thanks everyone for sticking with me through this rant. I hope you enjoyed.

WHY WAS MICHELLE CLAPTON SO AGAINST LETTING ARYA BE PRETTY? (trying to help you in reaching your daily anti got post quota)
okay the first thing I saw was the words “Arya” and “pretty” in the same sentence and I thought you were trying to start up that discourse with me and I got scared for a sec.
But honestly, the real question is why wouldn’t Michelle Clapton let anyone look good? That woman was apparently on a mission to be the sole person responsible for the decline of creative costume design in the period drama genre. She tended to just design one outfit for each character that would last them 2-3 seasons. It looked stale and boring, especially since GRRM puts so much description and meaning into the clothing in the books. Like when Tyrion thinks about how Sansa “wears sorrow on her long dagged sleeves”, or how the blinded Arya has to learn to tell the difference between her different colored socks by feeling which one has stitching along the top. The Night’s Watch are the only group who wears all black, and you have to keep it that way, or else it loses its meaning. Cersei likes wearing green because it brings out her eyes. All of the clothing in the books adds into the character. And it’s also just creative. GRRM gave Clapton so much to work with (each house literally has its own colors to wear, it shouldn’t be that hard!) and she just chose to ignore all of it. Again, this is just a general problem with the whole production, like how D&D said that following the books “wouldn’t earn them bonus points.” They had zero respect for the material they were adapting, believing themselves to be better at doing this story than THE ACTUAL AUTHOR.
Since you brought up Arya, I’ll just focus on the outfits that people tend to hate the most: the costuming of show!Dany, show!Sansa, and show!Arya during the last two seasons. Obviously, they were horrible, and they only got like 2-3 outfits each throughout that whole period (maybe there were more, but they were so unmemorable and indistinguishable from the others that it doesn’t even matter). But let’s just brainstorm on what to do instead.
Dany: simple. STOP WITH THE FUCKING MONOCHROMATIC DRESSES. They were so lazy throughout the whole show. It was just blue, then white, then black or white fur. Dull dull dull. Put Dany in some winterized Dothraki-inspired clothing, with riding leathers, a chainmail shirt, thick horsehair pants, a black and red cloak, and flat-soled boots. If you’re going to keep ignoring her short hair, at least stop with the Party City wig that keeps magically conjuring more volume of hair out of nowhere. Give her a long braid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arya: Put her in the fucking Stark colors. And let her wear more than one outfit. The one she had was fine as a single outfit (that one-shouldered cloak thing wasn’t too bad), but not every single episode. Like Dany, Arya would most likely choose to wear pants most of the time, but she probably wouldn’t mind throwing on a wool dress once in a while. Perhaps have her in the formal dress style of her House/the North when they all meet Dany. For her hair, I don’t know why they wanted to scrape all the hair back off of Maisie and Sophie’s foreheads like that. Was it in their contracts that as much of their faces had to be showing on screen at all times possible and the hair would block that? Anyway, it’s just horrible styling for a couple reasons. 1) one of Arya’s characteristics is that her hair is always messy, it shouldn’t be in a tight style, and 2) if you’re gonna do braids in dark hair, you need to make them stand out, or else they get lost and the audience can’t see them. There’s a line in the books that mentions how Alys Karstark has strips of leather in her hair, and I think that that’s a great thing to build off of. Braid strips of leather or fabric into the northern girls’ hair, or add bands of bronze or iron around the braids. For Arya, I would either have her hair be completely loose and wind blown, or with small braids in the front of her hair that have accessories in them so they can be seen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sansa: holy shit just put her in a grey and blue wool dress. Everytime I think about show!Sansa’s costumes I just think about how Michelle Clapton said she gave her those dumb circle-chain necklaces because that’s what she likes to wear in her own life. Lady... if Sansa was your fashion-self-insert... you have bad style. For Sansa, I would, obviously, dress her in her house colors, as well as blue. I’d have her in mostly wool and fur, very little leather or metal, and inspired more by Celtic and Slavic folk clothing. For her hair, again, why, oh why, did they scrape it off her face like that? It makes her look so severe, and older than she was. You also can’t even see the back of her hair where the action is, because she’s facing the camera most of the time! I would give her braids that would be seen, and would frame her face. Perhaps braided pigtails:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or a crown braid:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, something that annoys me about the whole show in general, not just with Dany, Sansa, and Arya, is the lack of crowns. Where’s Robb’s crown! Where’s Dany’s crown! Where’s Stannis’s crown! For the Stark sisters, I think that they should have had circlets, because they’re princesses. Jon was the king... he was their brother... they were princesses. It also solves the empty-foreheads problem. I would give Arya a simple, light bronze circlet, akin to the one Val is described to wear. And I would give Sansa something a bit more intricate, and made or dark iron to contrast her hair. One of my favorite hair styles in all of film is Éowyn’s hair during the funeral in The Two Towers. I think something like that would’ve been great for Sansa.
Tumblr media
Also, last note, but I think it would be neat to show the characters doing their hair. Sansa walks into Arya’s room and we see Arya finishing up one of her braids. Arya walks into Sansa’s room, and Sansa is letting out her hair for the day. Show women interacting with their hair more, don’t make it feel like it’s just LEGO hair that they pop on every morning.

Rin is still talking in third person like a small child, and the fact that she can’t be older than 15-17 (probably on the younger end) and you all are pretending this is acceptable?? They’re infantilizing her while trying to tell us it’s totally okay bc she’s older now. I have no doubt that the differences between ‘kid Rin’ and ‘adult Rin’ are going to be pretty minimal, outside of her size, and YIKES to that.
Even if she were eighteen when the twins were born (lmao she wasn’t, bc there’s no way Hisui is twenty-two), she hasn’t BEEN an adult long enough to have fallen in love, gotten pregnant, etc. without her having been way too young to consent to a relationship with a grown ass man who she lived with when she was eight, and who she continued to see throughout her childhood. There is no way to read this but, Sesshoumaru dropped her off in the village as an eight year old, periodically brought her gifts while she was a child, and then once she was old enough, fucked her. That’s grooming. It’s literally grooming.
No it was not ‘normal’ for the time, and even if it WAS, as modern audiences, there’s no reason to put it in an anime created for families, and most especially, one likely being watched by a lot of impressionable little girls. It’s grossly irresponsible.
There is no getting around it. There is no redeeming this. Don’t compare it to MirSan. Yes, Sango had children when she was very young, but she did so with a man who is only two years older than her. Don’t compare it to InuKag. Not only are they the same age (minus time on the tree), but Rumiko waited three years until Kagome was eighteen to allow them to even marry! And neither of those pairings involve one of them knowing the other while one was a small child and the other was a grown ass youkai adult.
The anime has pushed a different dynamic to SessRin since the original anime. They added shit in like ‘Together Forever with Sesshoumaru-sama’ where Rin said she wanted to stay with him forever and there was this whole thing about her struggling around normal humans. The CD Drama may have been parody/crack, but there were jokes about Sess and Rin getting married when she was STILL A SMALL CHILD. In the manga, we don’t get any of that, and him dropping her off in a human village reads that he just knows it’s a better place for her to grow up.
I know Rumiko gives fuckall about what they do to her adaptations. She’s too busy with Mao to work on Yashahime, and she wouldn’t do it anyway, because she has zero interest in a next gen sequel to Inuyasha (and has been clear about this), but it is REALLY disappointing and frustrating that she didn’t put her foot down at least on this. However, the idea that ‘this is what she would have written’ is hilariously wrong, because she outright SAID she’d never write anything like this. And like everyone involved in this series, except the male boomer writer, Sumisawa (the man who just told us last week that being addicted to your cellphone is sort of like being a violent, obsessive rapist), has been like ‘it’s weird af that Sess has kids PERIOD’. Rumiko certainly never considered it, which is why Moroha’s design came to her instantly and the others... didn’t.
Look no one is saying your ship can’t be canon to you, but forcing other people to accept stuff Rumiko didn’t even write is obnoxious as all. I’ve never seen another fandom so persistently try to force people to accept stuff not written by the original creator as canon.
And don’t make this about people just being upset because ‘they ship Sess with someone else but Rin’. I don’t even LIKE Sess, so I sure don’t ship him with anyone else, but even I, despite my dislike of his character, know that it’s completely wrong of them to do this.
Rumiko had originally planned on killing Sesshoumaru in the manga. I wish she had.

The Substitute Lover (5)
word count: 3.1k
genre: fluff, angst hehe

"You guys know each other?" you asked, turning to look at Namjoon. It turns out, your new friend's name was Eujin.
A pretty name for a pretty face.
"Why are you with Y/N?" Namjoon asked further, sharing a look with Hoseok. The interaction has been short so far, but the tension was so thick, it can already be cut by a knife.
Eujin shrugged her shoulders, brushing her long hair behind her back.
"She's about to pass out because she was burning with fever. I took her here to eat and drink medicine before she goes home." she explained. Hoseok, who was silent until now, looked over to me to as if to ask for confirmation. I nodded; it was true, after all.
Not having answered your question, you gave all of them a once over as you repeat yourself.
"How do you guys know each other?"
"They're my boyfriend's friends." Eujin answered.
Now that you had taken a good look of her face, you slowly recognised her. She was one of your younger professor's girlfriend. You remember her from countless of time you had to go to his office and have your papers checked. Of course you weren't sure if it was allowed, but it's none of your business anyway.
"Jagi?" Yoongi's sudden appearance startled you.
You felt as if a bucket of cold water washed over you as it finally dawned on you. You didn't really know what "Jagi" looked like, but if Yoongi was to fall for someone, she would most definitely look like Eujin. Ethereal.
What confused you is to why she's calling Yoongi her boyfriend? You thought maybe she and your professor have broken up.
You managed to hold yourself together and face Eujin, offering a hand. She raised hers to shake it as you fake a smile in return, hoping none of them would see through it.
"Hi, I'm Hoseok and Namjoon's friend too." you start to introduce yourself. "My name is Y/N."
Her face gave away a sense of realisation. She eyed you up and down, drinking your appearance in. You inwardly groan that you didn't put in effort in how you dressed today. You looked like a donkey next to her. The trio was watching quietly.
"Are you the lucky one who got my Yoongs to agree to go on a date with her?" she teased, and it almost hurt how she called him as hers. Shaking the feeling of jealousy away, you keep the smile to your face. She's his and he's hers. You had no right to be jealous.
Surprisingly, you managed to hide your disappointment with the manner of how she asked, it sounded rude and condescending. The concern she had for you vanished into thin air, but you're sure no one noticed that but you.
You wanted the ground to open up and swallow you whole. It was beyond embarrassing for it to come directly from her mouth, especially in front of Yoongi.
You tried to answer but no words came out of your mouth. Thankfully, Namjoon awkwardly laughed beside you to kill the tension arising and sat next to you.
"Anyways, how are you?" he asked. "Do you want me to take you to your apartment?"
"No need, I can get by on my own. I just need to eat first. I'm starving!" you groaned. Earning a laugh from Hoseok who ruffled your hair.
"Come on, I'll get you something to eat." You gladly nodded, forgetting the awkwardness that just occurred minutes ago. You have grown close to Namjoon and Hoseok but you are much closer to the latter.
You tail behind him as he reach out his hand to you, not bothering to look back. You hesitate for a bit, not wanting people to assume things between you two but decided against it.You lace your hand in his. If there is one thing you've learned from the first month of being friends with them, it's that they are a fan of skinship.
You used to feel uncomfortable with how often Hoseok places his hands over your shoulders or how Namjoon bumps elbows with you when you sit next to each other but after observing them, it seems that they do that to each other too. Everything was completely platonic. That was when you started to adapt to them and became comfortable with skinship too.
"Are you alright, Y/N? I'm sorry you had a run-in with that witch." he said with a scowl. So they did notice, you note. Nevertheless, you smack his shoulder at the comment. "Yoongi wouldn't appreciate you calling her that, Hobi."
Hoseok instantly forgot what he was grumbling about and beamed at the nickname. You heard that "Hoba" was Yoongi and Namjoon's nickname for him so you made one of your own. You'll never forget Hoseok's face when he first heard you say it.
"Are you alright? How are you feeling, really?" he sighed. "I want you to know that both Namjoon and I condone what Yoongi did. He was wrong in so many ways, leaving you to go home alone last night."
"To be fair, that was on me. I basically forced him on that date." you shrugged.
"You didn't, Y/N." Hoseok turned to fully look at you. Worry etched on his face. "He wouldn't be there if he didn't want to be. No one forced him. He chose to be there."
Your mind instantly trailed back to the bus ride where Yoongi had said the same thing. It made you wonder if it was true.
Trying to change the subject, you point to the line of the cafeteria. Wanting to just get food in your system and head home.
On the other side of the room were Yoongi, Eujin, and Namjoon.
"I thought I had competition, but I think I no longer have to worry." Eujin points at you and Hoseok's hands. Namjoon ignored this, knowing Hoseok and yours closeness, he didn't think any of it.
"See Jagi, you had nothing to worry about." Yoongi assured in her ear. She hummed in return, not bothering to reply.
Namjoon couldn't take it anymore so he started to address the elephant in the room.
"Is this a thing again?" Namjoon asked, pointing at both Yoongi and Eujin. He was frustrated for his friend, in all honesty. He and Hoseok have witnessed how much it affected Yoongi when she left. He didn't want that to happen again.
"We're going to try, Joon." Eujin answered for the both of them.
"Namjoon." Namjoon corrected. "Only my friends can call me Joon." Yoongi wanted to say something and bark back but didn't want to push his luck. Eujin cleared her throat at that. She didn't want to impose further. All she needed was for Yoongi to like her, everyone else is irrelevant.
"Also, tell that to me in a week after you're out the door again, leaving Yoongi for another man." That was the last straw for Yoongi. He abruptly stood and slammed a hand on the table. He felt rage creeping through his veins but mostly ashamed for himself too. It was a low moment for him. How dare Namjoon speak of that. It was a low blow, Namjoon was aware of that too, but Yoongi needs to wake the fuck up.
This startled Eujin, who stayed quiet beside Yoongi. She was guilty. Their relationship ended because she did find someone new; Yoongi just never figured out whom. All he knows is that it took an awful turn and left her broken beyond pieces. Only Yoongi was there to comfort her. She put her hand on Yoongi's trembling ones and ushered for him to take a seat.
"Look, Joon." He sighed. "I know you care about me but please, never speak of that again. We already moved past that. Don't bring it back."
Namjoon only nodded, tired of proving a point and wanting to move on from this drama already.
Besides, he already saw Hoseok and you walking in their direction. Namjoon didn't want to be insensitive in front of you, both he and Hoseok knows that you are deeply infatuated with their friend. Every time you meet with them, though you try to be subtle about it, they notice your disappointment whenever Yoongi doesn't come.
Hoseok took a seat and you sat down next to him. You almost inhale your food desperate to finally drink medicine. Your head was throbbing and you felt worse than you did earlier. Namjoon offered you a paracetamol which you gladly took. You smiled at him gratefully and drank it in one go. You'll start to feel better soon.
After a few minutes, you feel your fever going down. Leaning your head onto the bag Namjoon placed in the table, you quickly used it as a cushion for your to rest on. You paid the couple in front of you no mind. It's embarrassing enough that you practically forced Yoongi into a date, furthermore Eujin finding out and asking you about it. So you focused on Hoseok telling you a story about a dog he met on his way to the campus as Namjoon plays with your hair.
"His name is Kobe, Y/N!" he exclaims, trying to make you understand why it was so important. You tilt your head to the side, confused as to why it was a big deal.
"My name is Hobi! Kobe and Hobi, Y/N!"
You laughed out loud when you realised his point. You are absolutely endeared at how cute Hoseok is being. Namjoon just opted to roll his eyes.
"Hoba, you wasted our time." Yoongi spoke for the first time, making you turn your head towards him. Hoseok hissed at him, he was no longer ignoring him but was being petty at everything he says. This made Yoongi laugh, too. It was hard to not be obsessed with Hoseok, he's a ball of sunshine in human form.
"Where did Hobi even come from?" He added, to which Namjoon replied before Hoseok can.
"It's the nickname Y/N gave him. You know, just some perks we get for being her friend." Namjoon bragged as if it was important piece of information for Yoongi to know. You blushed at his statement and Yoongi looked away.
"Joonie, I think you've made your point." You rolled your eyes at Namjoon. You stood up and gathered your things. You need to go home now. The medicine made you feel better but you felt your body begging you to rest. You are exhausted beyond words and honestly lacking the energy to attend afternoon classes.
"I have to go now, though. I really feel like shit." you laughed.
"I'll bring you home, Y/N." Hoseok begged once again. Yoongi grew bothered by how his two closest friends were so keen with protecting you. What is up with that?
"Look, if it eases your paranoia," You start. "I promise to text you as soon as I get home."
That somehow made Hoseok sigh in defeat. You beamed at him, happy that you were able to crack him.
You face the group and bowed a little, bidding goodbye. Yoongi frowned at that, you weren't strangers. The courtesy was uncalled for and it made his stomach feel queasy. Besides, he didn't like the idea of you bowing to Eujin. It was already bad enough that you were being forced to tolerate their relationship. He wasn't sadistic, as Yoongi repeats to himself every time you're in the picture, he has a heart.
Yoongi was curious as to why you didn't get upset at him for leaving you to walk home alone last night in the first place. Nor did you question Eujin and who she is in his life. If he was being honest, this confused him. After all your efforts to ask him out on a date, your constant stares, and Hoseok's teasing when he is near you, he thought that you actually like him.
Except you are here now, acting like he's nothing. Laughing with Hoseok and Namjoon, who you have both given nicknames.
It's not that he gives two fucks though.
He does. Yoongi gives a million fucks.
------------------------------------
You continued with your life as normal, spending most of it with Hoseok and Namjoon. Yoongi was occasionally present but it's usually with Eujin by his side.
You weren't going to lie, the more you see them together, the more you wish you were the one in Eujin's place. Hoseok often try to encourage you to try dating other people but you just shook your head and let him. You weren't really looking to date, liking Yoongi was just a surprise to you as it is to them.
A few weeks passed and you find yourself slowly accepting your fate. You made no attempt to talk to Yoongi unless it was needed. Eujin was still a bit odd around you, but it was alright. You didn't have to be best friends, she knew you had feelings for Yoongi and since she's dating him, it's her right to put a space between you two. So you let them.
Yoongi, on the other hand, found himself always forcing a smile whenever Eujin was around. These days, he preferred to be with Hoseok and Namjoon, attending rehearsals as much as he can.
Though he hates to admit it, he prefers it when you're there, too.
He's often frustrated at you. He hates how you can grab his full attention in a snap. He hates how your nose crinkles at everything Hoseok says. He hates how you always lean your head on Namjoon's shoulder when you laugh. He hates how you're always in his mind, rent-free.
He fucking hates it.
He recalls the next Humanities class you had with them, you walked in carrying a to-go paper bag from a local coffee shop. Yoongi scoffed, he knew you'd crack. How many times does he have to tell you for you to realise that Eujin is in his life now?
When you saw the trio, you beamed and walked happily towards them. The moment you reach them, Yoongi opened his mouth to say something about you bringing him coffee but to his surprise, you went directly to Namjoon's desk.
"Joonie, I got you the biggest size since you helped me with Accounting last week." Namjoon like the barbarian he is, didn't even wait for you to hand him the drink. He immediately grabbed the paper bag and took out the drink himself.
Yoongi's jaw almost hit the floor. He assumed wrong. He felt crimson red creep up to his cheeks as he imagined what horror it could've been if he let his mouth run. He's an idiot. Hoseok who was by his side, noticed this and started to tease him.
"You thought the coffee was for you?" He teased which made Yoongi snarl.
"Why would I think that?" He replied, annoyed out of his mind.
Hoseok teased him further as you stick the straw to the drink that you bought for him. He began to drink it while maintaining eye contact with Yoongi and you smack his head from behind.
"Hobi," you warn. "Stop teasing Yoongi."
You grab the paper bag and gave it to Yoongi. He reluctantly looked at it and raised his eyebrows at you.
"I didn't get you coffee since you didn't like it last time," you trailed off. This made Yoongi squirm at his seat, remembering how he rejected the one you bought for him last time. He was a fucking asshole.
"I got you a panini, though." you held the paper bag in front of his face. He accepted it and placed it on his desk. You flashed a grin that could light up a whole village. Yoongi felt a zoo in his stomach. Something must be wrong with him.
"I hope I didn't make you feel uncomfortable, Yoongi. Don't worry, I fully respect your relationship with Eujin." you started. "What do you say? Friends?" you offer a hand. Yoongi raised his to shake yours.
Yoongi wasn't really sure how he felt with being your friend.
But with how you treat Hoseok and Namjoon, you must be a great one.
With that, classes started and you didn't even glance his way for the rest of it. He knows because he never took his eyes off of you.
You have concluded that Yoongi was not bad of a friend as you thought he would be.
After you two have cleared everything up, he began to open up more to you. Of course, you knew your boundaries.
Hoseok became your best friend, you confide in him for everything. Namjoon sometimes jokes and gets jealous at how you're "stealing" him from their little trio.
One day while you're eating lunch with everyone, he began to tease you as the topic of your bet with Yoongi was opened up.
"She slayed that bet, in my opinion." Namjoon stated.
"I did!" you whined beside Hoseok. "I knew that the answer was Plato! If I realised it sooner, I would've won!"
"But you didn't," Yoongi pointed at finger at you while he drank his soda. Eujin just chuckled beside him.
"She had guts though." She said, eyeing me. There was that look of distaste again, swimming in her irises. You said nothing, but clear your throat.
"She did! Plus, did you know," Hoseok said with a teasing tone. "That was Y/N's first kiss!"
Everyone in the table but Yoongi laughed.
"I don't really know what came into me." You snorted. "Damn, I must've seemed bat shit crazy to you, Yoongi. No wonder you didn't want to go on that date with me."
Namjoon tapped your shoulder as if to say "there there" and you held onto it. Yoongi's eyes stayed glued to it, a part of him wanted to take it off and practically shove Namjoon off of you.
He was just a possessive friend. He thought.
He was still somewhat shocked to know that it was your first kiss. You were so bold about it, it didn't seem like it. He feels Eujin snake her hand around his waist. This brought him back to the conversation. He even found himself questioning why he even cared.
You are clouding his mind these days.
He wants you to stop.
You need to stop, he thought, as he hugs Eujin from the side. ------------------------------------

What I am hoping for from Winner is King ( 烽火流金)
Okay, so at this point, let’s just be reals here, Word of Honor has kinda set the bar for me in terms of standards to expect from the slew of danmei adaptations this year. Granted, I know that there are some who think the way it was adapted was not up to their standards and that it could have been done better, please don’t bring it on this post because this is not the post for it.
In this post, I’m going to talk about  Winner is King (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
Now, Sha Po Lang, the original novel, is for me one of the best things that I have read in a very long while. As such, I can be rather precious about what I am hoping to see come alive on the show and what I am hoping will be present in the portrayals I see. I know there are some concerns regarding the script and behind the scenes stuff - and they are very valid concerns that I feel too! - and with the recent announcement that instead of 45 episodes, we are only getting 40, I can foresee that there could be some rushed handlings of the very plotty nature of the source material and perhaps a sense that style can trump substance.
But as the actual show isn’t beaming right into our eyeballs just yet, here are some things I am looking forward to seeing in Winner is King and some things that I am crossing my fingers will make the final cut!
Warning for some novel spoilers ahead. I’ll keep it under the read more.
Tagging @zhongwans because I said I would haha...
Things I am looking forward to:
The Changgu dynamic. I think it goes without saying that if the chemistry between your leads is a dud, the show doesn’t need to even pass Go, it can just shuffle itself off the board because it will be dead in the water. The Changgu dynamic has to be nailed; I need to see that self-doubt, that caring for the other but coming at it from the wrong way, that awkwardness that comes with trying to hold back the burden of your love and care because you don’t want to overwhelm the other...
I need Gu Yun to be shamelessly sweet with his words and his coaxing of his Yan Wang from a sulk. I need Changgu saying “I hate you to death, Gu Yun” (pining)
Hu Ge Er. Let me just be clear here, I will cheer when she dies, but I hope that how they handle her characterisation will do her justice. There is no excusing the level of horrible that she is, but I hope that she isn’t written as a single dimension abusive piece of shit. Nuance, is what I am looking for. I need her to be the villain and the reason for Chang Geng.
I. NEED. THE. WOLF. ATTACK. SCENE. OUTSIDE. OF. YANHUI. TOWN. aka The First Time They Meet
There is legit no excuse for them to fuck this up, but the Steampunk elements. I would not know what else to say if they fuck this one thing up that is so integral and basic to the love of this IP. They cannot fuck this up. I am very sure I will join people in rioting if they do.
I need to see my Red Kites, my Heavy and Light Armours, my Dragons... I need to see the steam powered lamps, the iron puppets... I need them to get the Wind Slashers right. I need them to get this world-building right ok? I need to be dropped into this show and just swoon over just how accurate to imagination everything looks. Tencent does have the blessed ability to make very good looking productions, so on this note, I am assured.
I need them to get the human element right; I need to understand why Gu Yun is the way he is, I need to know why the members of the Lin Yuan Pavillion will back Chang Geng and why they won’t. I need to know why Liao Chi would betray the Emperor. I need them to make me feel; I want them to make my heart hurt when Chang Geng’s heart is hurting, I want them to make me cry when Gu Yun is at his lowest and feels like he can’t go on. I want them to make me laugh, I want to feel for Shen Yi and Miss Chen’s awkward courting.
On that note, I hope they get the Shen Yi and Gu Yun dynamic right too! These two are bros ok? Life and death, ride or die, best bros forever and I need, need them to nail just how integral these are to each other and how much they chose each other as family. I need the bickering, I need the protectiveness, I need the banter.
I also need Chang Geng conspiring to marry Shen Yi off quickly so that he can have Gu Yun all to himself lol but lbr here if we can get an ending for this show from Tencent that even breathes the same atmosphere of air as satisfactory I will praise the heavens
The Bone of Impurity. I don’t know to what extent they will cover this or if they would do it the way the book does it, but this being an element that is integral to Chang Geng, I would be surprised if they dropped it entirely. So yeah, I am looking forward to seeing Chang Geng fretting and worrying and getting Bone of Impurity attacks.
Just the way that Gu Yun allows himself to be cared for my Chang Geng and how Chang Geng lets Gu Yun care for him
I want one acupuncture hedgehog scene please and thank you
I do want to see how they handle Chang Geng and his elder half-brother; how that dynamic unfolds will be something to pay some attention to, I think
Oh! That moment when Chang Geng kneels down in front of his brother and tells him to please bury any talk of his marriage and revealing to his brother the scars that he carries from his time living under Hu Ge Er’s roof (this is one brand of Whump that I promise you will hurt you very badly and it will be very good)
The argument at Jiangnan is something I really think will also make the final cut. It wouldn’t make sense to drop it seeing as this is a pivotal shift in their relationship where Chang Geng is finally holding his ground and not bending over backwards and believing everything his Yi Fu says. And this was the catalyst for their four year separation so yeah. I hope they do this justice.
I am not a betting person, but I high key bet that the scene between Gu Yun and the previous Emperor where he tells the man, “If you go, then I won’t have anyone left” and this being the moment that softens the dying fucker’s heart enough to give him a bracelet of beads that will be a major plot point towards the end
THE. BATTLE. SCENES.
Things I am hoping will happen:
At this point, speculation is that the point that tripped Winner Is King up for a recheck was the politics. This year is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party in China and rumour has it that shit be sieving thick and so a lot of shows are erring on the side of caution.
Politics is the highest likelihood of a recheck but I am hoping that it won’t be dumbed down or watered down too much because the politics and the way things played out in the book was absolutely divine and I really want to see that court intrigue and scheming and interplay unfold.
I’ve mentioned in my most recent podcast episode that I am banking on this show to scratch my itch for a Nirvana in Fire level of plottiness and infinite craftiness of the characters and I am crossing all fingers and toes for that to happen because All! The! Characters! Hold! Their! Own! And I need to see that play out please I am not asking for much...
The final sea battle with the Pope. I wouldn’t even know where they would even begin to shoot that scene but this is something I would love to see happen.
The Bone of Impurity attack after Gu Yun sneakily left the capital. That was the scene that caught me and hooked, lined and sinkered me for Chang Geng as a character. Listening to this scene be brought to life in the audio drama has really hammered it home that if they make this bit into the show, I will watch and weep if it is done right.
Cao Niangzi being Cao Niangzi. I am thinking it might not happen the way I want, but I just need them to get them right.
Ge Chen peeing on the enemy’s face. Please. I laughed so hard. I need this. It will be a balm to my soul.
Please, I need Gu Yun’s soul crushing flute playing like I need Gong Jun to always be absolutely horrible at singing because baby this is your niche and this is your charm own it work it
I also need Gu Yun stealing a bamboo flute from a 10 year old because he got jealous please and thank you
Any flashback of Chang Geng and Hu Ge Er before Yanhui Town
I want to see that moment that Gu Yun hears first hand from someone who had knowledge of what Hu Ge Er would do to a baby Chang Geng and the horrible abuse she inflicted on him, because up to that point, he only knew that something went on, but never to the extent that revelation wrought unto him
Any of the Bone of Impurity moments; any mention of it, any visual representation of it... Gosh, just the idea of having the Bone of Impurity made visual is just... Ugh. Yes. Please. The suffering.
[bonus] Things I wish will happen but will probably not:
The hot spring scene or a version of it
An implication that baby cannibalism was involved in the making of a Bone of Impurity
The scene where they get to the goddess doll (the description of it in the book was so bone chilling and if they do this I will have nightmares, I’m just warning you)
I really, really want a scene where, after being crowned Emperor, Chang Geng goes to the frontlines to reclaim the South and upon hearing that he was there, Gu Yun immediately panicked like he was about to be caught with his pants down doing something illegal when all he did was ordered his subordinates to keep news of his injuries from being reported back to the capital
Any flashback of Chang Geng and Hu Ge Er before Yanhui Town; especially when they were with the Barbarians
I want to see some version of Hu Ge Er realising what she has done to her own child and to Chang Geng
Okay this got super long but what are you guys looking forward to seeing when Winner is King hits our screens? I’m looking forward to creating content for this fandom when it hits ೕ(˃̵ᴗ˂̵ ๑) In the meantime, sound off on what you’re expecting and what you’re maybe wary about!

the problem with sherlock and watson (yuumori)
Feel free to ignore honestly this is a giant opinionated and not well informed ramble but yeah here it is for those of u that follow me for some reason, this is probably pretty controversial so yeah feel free to scroll past
also spoilers for anime onlys, we’re almost there though
So I’ve been Thinking about these two recently, and yeah, to be fair I’ve literally never read or watched any other adaption of sherlock, so I’m just speaking as to what I can tell, but yeah. I’m not sure at this point if it’s really a complaint or just an observation, but I do have some slightly confounded observations about how things are different from what I expected with them.
Mostly my Confounded Observation is just... Watson is straight?! I don’t mean in a literal way, he definitely has Bi Wife Energy TM but... you know, he’s comparatively straight.
Of course, I understand why the author might want to make sure watson doesn’t really get in the way of sherlock and liam (which is honestly hilarious but understandable) and for the purposes of the story it does make sense, but it’s... you know, again I haven’t consumed literally any other sherlock content so I wouldn’t know but from what I’ve heard watson’s always a flaming homosexual and well, it’s not like this series lacks for those, but??
It’s not just that he’s straight in the sense of his sexuality, it’s that... he’s a straight character in the sense that he’s like, normal? Kind of overly normal? I was kind of expecting more out of him, to be honest, and to see him just be like, a functional human being who seems to be doing totally fine in all ways? That... I don’t know, it’s kind of weird. Especially in contrast with Sherlock, who as everyone can tell is violently not doing just fine.
Since this part of the manga will be covered in the anime soon, I think this is timely, but I feel like this is just made painfully obvious when the shit goes down between him and sherlock.
Speaking on the nature of their relationship here, it’s weird. Because you know, the author is clearly going sherliam endgame (istg if they don’t just make it official i cant take this anymore) and I support that lmao, they’re like my favorite dynamic- but yeah, it’s obviously different from the other adaptions, where, you know, sherlock and john are ambiguously gay people.
Like, it’s honestly comical how in this series that is significantly gayer than every other one that watson is so clearly a Heterosexual Man honestly
But Sherlock still, clearly isn’t, and I think there is something to be said about how he feels about John, though of course in the end he... obviously chooses Liam. (and considering John’s kind of ass character in this version, he was right to do so)
I mean, just look at them.
We’ve got this obviously autistic obviously gay man who is violently codependent with this mild mannered british dude. Sherlock’s feelings for this guy are complex, and they’re clearly very different from the ones he has for Liam, but they’re certainly there. Sherlock clearly has no idea of romance, no idea of the boundaries between platonic and romantic relationships (and neither do I, but,,, yeah) and I think what Sherlock feels for Watson is like a queerplatonic relationship, but like.... not reciprocated??
It’s so weird for this to be the case, but it so clearly is? In the part where they explore that, it goes into how, like... Sherlock doesn’t really know how to function without Watson, dude’s holding up his entire mental health without even really doing anything, and Sherlock feels fucking awful when he is no longer Watson’s like, #1 person. The fact is, the same thing is going on with him, though they’ve existed like this for years it’s clearly not going to work anymore- Sherlock is basically having to choose between him and Liam, and you know what he’s gonna do. But it’s still an awful feeling for a bond that strong to break.
The thing about it really is that for Watson the tie was never that strong in the first place. Watson is so... without conflict in his character. And this is something that actually honestly bothers me. He’s so lawful good it’s infuriating. He’s steady, he’s calm, he’s rational and he’s emotionally mature, he can manage himself fine and care for everyone he needs to. He’s doing just fine even though Sherlock is caught up in this ridiculous murder drama, and that’s what makes the relationship so... I don’t know, off in this version.
Sherlock needs Watson, and Watson cares about Sherlock, but not nearly to the same extent, and he’s like. Not really doing it right? For someone who’s been with him for presumably years at this point, Watson doesn’t really feel like he knows Sherlock all that well. And that sucks that that’s the truth.
In every other story with friendship/romance tropes like this, the characters have conflicts like this, but when one person thinks the other doesn’t care for them that way, they’re wrong. It’s like oh no, I’m a burden, I’m being clingy, he’s got a life to get back to and I don’t, I’m too much, he’s better than me etc... those are things Sherlock’s type of character tell themself, but the catch is that’s not actually the case, they’re just Mentally Ill. Having that just... be true in Sherlock’s case is kind of heartbreaking, as much as it’s clearly for the Sherliam agenda.
The problem is just that Watson here is just so lawful neurotypical that he just doesn’t really get Sherlock. He’s got this strict moral code, and he kind of makes it a problem to Sherlock. He says all the things that Sherlock would expect everyone to say, but it’s not what you’re supposed to say, you know? He’s all like murder is bad stop doing that I won’t be your friend if you shoot people we don’t do that >:(, be civil be nice stop putting yourself in danger Don’t Do Drugs etc etc. You know, of course that’s sensible information, but it’s... not what he needs to fucking hear? That’s like the school counselor going hey guys, just say no :D THAT DOESN’T WORK. And you’d think that Watson would get this by now? All it’s doing is hurting him more. It’s genuinely making me dislike Watson, and that’s not something I want to do.
I think it works for the purposes of this specific narrative, because they don’t want to create problems with Watson being left behind, they want to say that he’ll be fine on his own so that it will all work out fine. And yeah, of course I want that, I don’t want there to have to be conflict of sacrificing John’s emotions for Liam, but I feel like they didn’t have to sacrifice John’s character for him.
This series could have a Watson who cares deeply about Sherlock and has some weaknesses and conflicting emotions about him without them being romantic. We haven’t seen how Watson dealt with Sherlock’s “death” yet, I don’t think, but... I don’t really like the thought that this Watson would honestly be fine. He’d be sad, he’d be mad, but he’d get over it and get on with his life and is objectively in a better situation without Sherlock. Yeah, I just... don’t like that.
I want to see a Watson who understands Sherlock. Isn’t that what he’s supposed to be? I want to see a Watson who cares for Sherlock so much that he has to make hard decisions, that he has to make the wrong decisions sometimes, that he has internal conflict because of it. I want a Watson who gets that Sherlock is nothing without him, who gets what’s going on with him and Liam, who’s trying to help him and keep him on track and maybe failing. I want a Watson who’s genuinely conflicted about leaving Sherlock for Mary because he knows it will hurt him, who worries about his ability to take care of everybody, who shows his problems from you know, being in a literal war, who wonders how to portray Sherlock in his books. We can have that without losing Sherliam, man. He doesn’t have to be Hideyoshi Nagachika (god, no one needs to go thru that shit), he just has to have at least a bit of emotion, bro. I want to see a Watson who’s struggling with what to do. Like. Even once.
Instead we have this. This dude who is just... a nice, rather clueless guy who helps out sometimes and who’s just a bit too much of a rule follower to fit into a story like yuumori.
Sorry to just complain on main here I just think he was done a bit dirty here and it’s bothering me, if u have thoughts or info about other portrayals feel free to hmu i have become a bIT hyperfixated

I am curious to hear your full uncensored and unfiltered thoughts about the entire fight during the September 9th ambush and how the outcome was changed from the original (YWS detonating his core to protect SQ, I mean WHOA). Because no one was expecting that, but I must say that I really enjoyed the changes and am interested in how the 2nd half of the novel will be covered once S2 is ready. :3
ahaha do I ever conceal my full and uncensored thoughts? unfortunately I must at least somewhat filter my thoughts or else the total lack of sentence structure would probably render my posts incomprehensible
when it comes to consuming adaptations of beloved original media, I think the most important thing for me is whether or not the adaptation maintained the heart of the story. and I don’t think the heart of the story is necessarily contained within the themes or the dialogue or the worldbuilding or the characters or the exact twists of plot, but in a more nebulous, less definable space, something that crosses over multiple elements of storytelling. like. what do I love about the original text, and did this adaptation succeed in conveying that?
I once watched an off-Broadway production of Cyrano de Bergerac that adapted it into a musical with an incredibly-stacked cast (Peter Dinklage, Jasmine Cephas-Jones, and Grace McLean, holy shit), and if you’re familiar with Cyrano, you’ll know that it’s a phenomenal play to choose for musical adaptation. It’s dramatic as all hell, actively incorporates poetry into its dialogue and plot; it’s got swashbuckling swordfights and high drama and star-crossed romance, and I was so, so incredibly hype.
And the production was terrible! Holy shit! They gutted the iconic roasts, pumped up the melodrama, and skipped the major dueling scenes (just let Peter Dinklage HIT THINGS WITH A SWORD my god) until the show was the barest shadow of what the play was on paper. I was absolutely fucking incensed, because this production took every reason why I love Cyrano de Bergerac and removed it from the adaptation.
okay but that’s one helluva a tangent, my point is, I’m really enjoying 《山河剑心》 as an adaptation of 《千秋》 despite the pretty hefty changes it’s making to plot, character, theme, and worldbuilding because I feel like the heart of the book is still there: the unlikely partnership between Yan Wushi and Shen Qiao, and the friction between the two as they are thrown, again and again, into situations where they must rely upon each other. The oscillating dynamics of trust and betrayal, respect and scorn. That same, fundamental question that most, if not all of the characters in QQ’s sizable cast face: so the world has deeply wronged you--what do you do about it?
which is why I’m not at all fussed about plot changes in the adaptation, just excited to see where they go from here. however, on an animation/fight choreography level, I fucking loved episode 16. there were so many incredible moments of sakuga (am I using that word correctly???), all the way from the opening exchange of blows (the way Yan Wushi goes head-to-head with Xueyin then vanishes, leading Xueyin to release a stream of fire into the sky?? can I get a hell yeah???), to Yu Ai’s first appearance (THE WAVE OF SWORDS HOLY SHIT), the three-sixty shots in the hand-to-hand four-on-one melee portion and Shen Qiao’s goddamn entrance stage ceiling--it’s just. So. Good.
(yells)
in the book, the battle is intense, but not as Maximally High Drama as the donghua makes it out to be. and it makes sense on (again) a thematic level; there’s a narrative balancing that occurs between Yan Wushi picking up a half-dead Shen Qiao and nursing him back to health at the beginning of the novel, to Shen Qiao recovering Yan Wushi’s mostly-but-not-completely-dead corpse and dragging him back to functionality. but the donghua prefers more immediate juxtaposition--Shen Qiao enters by deflecting what would have certainly been a fatal blow for Yan Wushi, and within seven minutes, Yan Wushi immediately pays back the favor by self-detonating to protect Shen Qiao from... I don’t think it would have been a fatal blow, but it would have definitely knocked Shen Qiao very far back on his road to recovery
as a result, these seven minutes (less, actually, because we take a hot second to destroy Yu Ai on the side) become a highly-concentrated sequence of rapid character development for Yan Wushi--character development that happens over the entirety of the Ruoqiang arc, all the way to the moment Yan Wushi leaves Shen Qiao behind in an abandoned temple to go head off Sang Jingxing alone. From the moment Shen Qiao appears and lays everything on the line to protect him, Yan Wushi speedruns that character arc until he reaches the emotional point where he decides that actually, yeah, he would die for this man and proceeds to self-detonate in the most flamboyant and dramatique way possible
(I mean he literally rode a phoenix of his own summoning y’all I don’t know if you can get more extra from there)
of course, donghua!Yan Wushi has a slightly easier time with the speedrun because he doesn’t start at nearly such an extreme position as his novel counterpart, but still--that’s a very rapid acceleration of his character development, and I think the production team deserves massive props for making the pacing feel both natural and logical
