Lindsay
Another bit of Good Omens wondering. Does anyone else suppose that there was originally far more plot about Nina's rubbish partner Lindsay/Lindsey, and that what we're left with is a vestigial trace of a cut plot? I was slightly wondering if there might at some point have been a plan to tie that up with something to do with the end of the Resurrectionist plot. Elsewhere in Good Omens 2, "partner" and "spouse" are usually used to signal queer relationships (e.g. the magic-shop owner and his spouse; Nina's assumption about the ineffable idiots) but what if Lindsay is actually a man, a Scottish man?
I wondered this because Aziraphale tells Crowley that Mr Dalrymple left Edinburgh in disgrace and killed himself, which is otherwise a superfluous detail, and the only bit in the series that really stood out to me as superfluous by the end (e.g. the references to flies turn out to be leading up to Beelzebub). We don't get a similar "and Morag lived happily ever after" line. Nor do we find out what happens to Crowley in hell when he's sent there right at the end of the Resurrectionists minisode. I obviously do not know HOW Aziraphale and Crowley's bodysnatching escapade ties up with Nina's shitty partner 200 years later, but (a) we saw Mr Dalrymple not only on the pub sign but on the leaflet, and (b) maybe it is just that Lindsey is either female or non-binary, but actually if we had seen Lindsey it would have been a greater surprise in the context of the series if Lindsey had been cis male (given the general ambience!) - AND people tend not to think of Lindsey as a gender-neutral name unless Scottish. Maggie, after all, has a historic link to Aziraphale through her great-grandfather – could Lindsey be a shitty descendent of Dalrymple?
Anyway, possibly this has been discussed elsewhere, and possibly it's true that we were intended to see more of both Lindsey and Dalrymple but that they bear no resemblance to each other. Just musing.

If the anon will be in England, they should definitely try to see Scotland, which is just to the north. Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities in the world; the architecture, ambience, culture and just the general vibe are extraordinary. And the Scottish Highlands... oof. They're absolutely breathtaking. Isle of Skye is incredible and the entirely of the Highlands, really. I loved visiting some of the Lochs as well.
I personally also love the Lake District area in England. York, Windsor and Bath are also 😍.
For the Europe traveling anon, this also came in

Finding the Perfect Family-Friendly Breakfast and Brunch Café
Breakfast and brunch outings have become increasingly popular among families in the UK as a fun and relaxing way to spend quality time together. However, finding the best breakfast Edinburgh café for your family can present some challenges. It is important to look for a brunch café that can fulfil the wishes of each family member, so that the outing is a success.
Tumblr media
When selecting a brunch café, look for family-friendly establishments that provide the right ambiance for the outing. The comfort and enjoyment of everyone in the family should be a priority. Carefully consider the atmosphere of the café when you select from the ones that offer the best brunch Edinburgh provides. A cozy and welcoming ambience will enhance the experience for the whole family.
The menu is another important factor to consider. Does the best brunch Edinburgh café you are considering offer an extensive menu with something interesting for each family member? If there are elderly members with dietary restrictions, the café should have options to accommodate their needs as well. Ensuring that everyone can find something appealing to eat will contribute to a successful outing.
Consider the seating arrangement at the brunch café. When dining with the whole family, it is important to have a seating setup that allows everyone to dine together comfortably and in a relaxed manner. If you have young children, check if the café provides high chairs and booster seats to ensure their inclusion. Additionally, prioritize cleanliness and hygiene to ensure a safe dining environment for your family.
Customer reviews and feedback can provide valuable insights. Find out what previous visitors have to say about the café's service quality and overall dining experience. Taking into account the first-hand experiences of others will select the right cafes.
To ensure a memorable family outing, it is crucial to start reviewing and screening your café options well in advance. Avoid the last-minute rush, as it may lead you to choose a café without careful consideration. By allowing yourself ample time to research and select the right Edinburgh café, you can provide your family with a great dining experience.
Take the necessary steps to find a family-friendly breakfast and brunch café that caters to everyone's preferences and provides a welcoming ambiance. By planning ahead and considering factors such as menu variety, seating arrangements, cleanliness, and customer reviews, you can ensure a delightful and enjoyable outing for your entire family.

link to submission + BTS of my group’s visual exercise. We were tasked with choosing and documenting a location within 8 shots. We chose the location of Makar’s Court in central Edinburgh and I found it to be full of picturesque and eye catching sights due to its beautiful architecture. I thought our choice of shots was successful at capturing the ambience of the location during a particularly wet day in the city.

Shoot Day 2
The second day of shooting took place on 31st March. Mara had contacted us the night before to let us know she would not make the shoot as she was ill. While we were sympathetic to this, it also meant that we had even less crew than we began with on the Wednesday so roles would have to be stretched further.
I travelled into Edinburgh earlier to buy batteries for the radio mics so that they did not die during the second day of shooting and then made my way to set. Finn let me know that she would boom op for me during the shoot. The second day went much the same as the first as far as sound recording and I eventually settled with dialogue takes that had interference only between lines and then recording room tone and ambience at the end of the shoot to patch this up in post, as there was no chance of me getting any perfect takes.
We ended up wrapping early again but the mood was definitely low between crew and actors. This was disappointing to see, and while I feel we all tried to make the best of a bad situation, a lot more could have been done in prep to resolve these issues beforehand.

QIU ZHIJIE
Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhijie occupied the Georgian gallery in the Talbot Rice, this exhibit incorporated the atmosphere of the gallery amongst his work.
Through Zhijie's practice as a poet, calligrapher, critic and curator he combines cultures and knowledge systems in his work. This is evident in his intricate mapping that is situated throughout the whole gallery. What was originally a monumental paper and ink drawing has been split up into sections to fit the spaces on the walls. Personally, I would have liked to see the entire drawing as a single entity. Just because I think it would leave a much more impressive impact than if someone didn't know it was a singular piece of artwork.
However, I commend Zhijie for his creative inclusion of blacklight torches, this creates an immersive and exciting experience. And one of an explorative atmosphere in conjunction with the maps on the wall. The UV torches provide hidden translations of the script on the wall. The gallery has an upstairs balcony area, which provides several viewpoints to see the work on the floor below.
Tumblr media
Images of the ambience of the gallery, the dark lighting allows the blacklight torches to be fully appreciated by illuminating the hidden messages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
View from above, getting a bird's eye view of the archaeological pits, allowing visitors to explore the objects and images. This gives the audience insight to "piece together the appearance of civilisation through these fragments".
Zhijie explains that his work is a commentary on his thoughts about territory, and ever-changing geopolitical landscapes (growth and decline of forces in conflict. These intense themes juxtaposed with the fantastical + fictional element create a wondrous experience.

FOR CRIMES FORGOTTEN AND LURE - WEEKLY RECAP (WEEK 11 | 28 MARCH - 3 APRIL)
This week was a bit busy for me because I was on set for 4 days to do sound recording for Lure. It went quite well and I had a good time on set. On Monday, we all met at some kind of industrial location in Leith at around 7pm. My job was fairly easy because the voiceover of the film was the main voice, so I only had to make sure that the short bits of dialogue were clear enough, and to record some ambience and foley. Since I’m not a sound person, I was a bit nervous to do something wrong, but I managed to make the lav mics work, and Molly helped me during the shoot with anything that I needed.
The first day went well despite the cold weather. The second day was good too. It was raining, but we were shooting at a tunnel, so it wasn’t a problem at all. The third day was the problematic one. At first, we arrived at the location, and it wasn’t ideal. Since the scene was at a bus stop, Coleen and Fraser found one that wasn’t being used at the moment, but it was in a really busy street. So, we moved to another bus stop. That meant that we were running behind schedule, and the weather was not helping at all. We expected some snow, but we went through a hail storm, and it was a bit stressful. However, it stopped and we continued with the shoot. After some time, a van from the council stopped next to the bus stop, and we were informed that we had to leave the location because they had to do some construction work there. So unfortunately, we had to cancel the shoot for the rest of the night. The next day, we came back to the same location from the first day to get a few more shots. Due to the problem with the bus stop, they had to shoot again the next day. I wasn’t able to help because I was working from 3pm until 11pm. However, Molly said that she could record sound. So I sent her some notes to let her know about the levels and settings that I used. I also offered to help them after my shift, but they told me that it was fine. I felt really bad for them, but I’m glad that they managed to finish the shoot after all the problems that they had. There was a really good energy on set, and everyone did an amazing job despite the weather and the issue with the construction works. I’m so happy that I was able to help because I really think this is an amazing film and crew. Here you have some BTS photos from the second day:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Friday, we had fittings in the morning at Merchiston. Cameron, Maddy, and Alana (a first year and Cameron’s assistant) were there too. I met Rory (the Warden) and Joseph (the Informant), who were both lovely. I already knew William (the Prisoner), we’ve worked together a lot during these past years, so I was excited to work with him again. They all put on the costumes to make sure that everything looked good, and I talked to Maddy about possible issues. My main concern was the weather. We were lucky that the actors could wear layers underneath because I obviously didn’t want them to have a bad time or put their health at risk. We also discussed a few options for shoes and got some knee and arms pads for William. That way he wouldn’t hurt himself while crawling on the floor. Maddy told me if it could be possible to stain or make the robes look more worn out. So that was my job for the next two days before the shoot, as well as filling the weights with rice and putting some fake barbed wire around them (I’m still finding rice on my floor to this day). After the fittings, I stayed with Cameron and Alana for a bit to talk about the plan for next week. Basically, our shoot days changed to Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday due to the weather and some scheduling issues with the actors. Saturday would be the most difficult day. We were going to drive to Glenshee, shoot, and come back to Edinburgh in the same day. Cameron created a WhatsApp group chat with all the people involved in the film and sent us a travel plan to get to set.
Tumblr media
We agreed on having a call on Sunday to go over everything before the shoot and make sure that everyone was on the same page. I created a group chat with the people who were getting picked up by Cameron at my flat on Monday. I also made a prop list for each day to remember everything. On Sunday night, Jagoda sent us the call sheet and schedule for Monday, and we were pretty much ready to go.

Kenneth Grahame was born on March 8, 1859. He was a British writer born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a Scottish family. He is most famous for The Wind in the Willows (1908), one of the classics of children's literature. He also wrote The Reluctant Dragon. Both books were later adapted for stage and film, of which A. A. Milne's Toad of Toad Hall, based on part of The Wind in the Willows, was the first. Other adaptations include the Disney films The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and The Reluctant Dragon.
When he was a little more than a year old, his father, an advocate, received an appointment as sheriff-substitute in Argyllshire, at Inveraray on Loch Fyne. When he was five, his mother died of puerperal fever, and his father, who had a drinking problem, assigned care of Kenneth, his brother Willie, his sister Helen and the new baby Roland to Granny Ingles, the children's grandmother, in Cookham Dean in the village of Cookham in Berkshire.
There the children lived in a spacious, dilapidated house called The Mount, in expansive grounds, and were introduced to the riverside and boating by their uncle, David Ingles, who was a curate at Cookham Dean church. This ambience, particularly Quarry Wood and the River Thames, is believed by Grahame's biographer Peter Green to have inspired the setting for The Wind in the Willows.
Grahame was an outstanding pupil at St Edward's School, Oxford. In his early years there, no sports regimen had been established and the boys were free to explore the old city and its surroundings.
Grahame wanted to attend Oxford University, but was not allowed to do so by his guardian on grounds of cost. Instead he was sent to work at the Bank of England in 1879, and rose through the ranks until retiring as its Secretary in 1908 due to ill health, which may have been precipitated by a possibly political shooting incident at the bank in 1903. Grahame was shot at three times, but all the shots missed him.
An alternative explanation, given in a letter on display in the Bank museum, is that he had quarrelled with Walter Cunliffe, one of the bank's directors, who would later become Governor of the Bank of England, in the course of which he was heard to say that Cunliffe was "no gentleman". His retirement was enforced ostensibly on health grounds. He was awarded an annual pension of £400, but a worked example on display indicates he was actually due to receive £710.
While still a young man in his twenties, Grahame began to publish light stories in London periodicals such as the St. James Gazette. Some of these were collected and published as Pagan Papers in 1893, and two years later The Golden Age. These were followed by Dream Days in 1898, which contains The Reluctant Dragon.
There is a ten-year gap between Grahame's penultimate book and the publication of his triumph, The Wind in the Willows. During that decade, Grahame became a father. The wayward, headstrong nature he saw in his little son Alastair he transformed into the swaggering Mr. Toad, one of its four principal characters. The character in the book known as Ratty was inspired by his good friend, and writer, Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. Grahame mentions this in a signed copy he gave to Quiller-Couch's daughter, Foy Felicia. Despite its success, he never attempted a sequel. The book is still widely enjoyed by adults and children. It has given rise to many film and television adaptations, while Toad remains one of the most celebrated and beloved characters in children's literature. In 1929, A. A. Milne wrote the play Toad of Toad Hall, which is based on part of The Wind in the Willows, which won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958. In the 1990s, William Horwood produced a series of sequels.

Three Things You Learn After You Travel To Europe...
Over the past five years I have been lucky enough to travel to Europe four times. London, Paris, Rome and Edinburgh in Scotland. Each has its own ambience and atmosphere but every time three major ideas come to my mind about Europe that seem to be a constant when I compare it with the United States.
#1. - THE FOOD IS BETTER
This is an easy one. I can’t stress how much better the food is in Europe compared to the United States. I’m not just talking about the dishes and types of cuisine. I mean the quality of the food. You never know what people mean when they say “processed foods” until you go to a place that serves everything fresh and in season. Even something as simple as a cheeseburger from McDonald’s in Paris tastes ten times better than anything you can get here in the United States. It tastes like actual beef! It does give you a better appreciation for the food ingredients that are used and the simplicity in which the are used in the dishes.
#2 - EUROPEANS HAVE A BETTER SENSE OF THIER HSITORY
When I was in Rome I remember looking at the temples in the Roman Forum that were thousands of years old. It does put the word “old” into perspective when buildings and monuments in the United States are 100 - 200 years old if that. I also notice that Europeans have a better appreciation for the history of their countries. It might be a bit different if in the United States a person could look out my window and see a castle that is a thousand years old or walk by a church that used to be a temple that is from the time of Christ. Once you travel to Europe and come back to the United States, your definition of old definitely gets tweaked a bit.
#3 - THE UNITED STATES NEEDS BETTER TRAINS AND PUBLIUC TRANSPORTATION
WE NEED BETTER PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE UNITED STATES! Especially when it comes to trains. I don’t understand why trains are not used more in this country. Maybe the highway system made it easier to travel. But, it is so easy to get on a high speed train and travel from one city to another or even one country to another all over Europe. The best part though is the price. You can get all around Europe by train for cheap! Hopefully, the United States will get a better train system some day, but don’t hold your breath.

STREAM TO DONATE:  how to help when videos are taken down
yesterday, 13/6/2020, i made a post after realising that youtube is taking down stream-to-donate videos, such as zoe amira’s, for “violating terms of service”. when another video was linked and the post started gaining traction, i thought it’d be best to make another, more detailed post in case other people are experiencing the same problem.
1. FREE RESOURCES ON BLM.CARRD
https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/
new ways of helping are arriving every day, even if you are financially compromised, and this is where you will find them. some examples of free ways to help listed on the site:
the U-DON app. play mobile games, and the app’s revenue from ads goes straight to charities chosen by the creators. currently, 100% of this is going to BLM.
sign petitions. hundreds out there are behind on signatures and it takes a maximum of 10 seconds to help, quicker than having a glass of water (do that too).
learn black history and learn racism. remember that we will not end racism with money. whether you can donate or not, especially if you are white, the best thing to do for the movement is to begin to understand and communicate.
2. USE PLAYLISTS
you may have seen this post going around. the rules still stand as ever (apart from the boycotting of playlists), but unfortunately all the videos featured have been taken down.
instead, refer to this post by the same user with an updated playlist of 69 public videos. another alternative is this one with 49 public videos.
3. SEARCH MANUALLY
if you run out of playlists, there are many more stream-to-donates out there which i haven’t seen compiled in playlists. any combination of ‘blm / stream to donate / black lives matter / watch to donate / donate free’ in the YT search bar will yield results. a few i’ve found include:
Watching this will help DONATE to Black Lives Matter + my Honest Thoughts/how to make a REAL Change
BLACK LIVES MATTER || FITNESS MARATHON
24/7 Hip Hop Music - Donate with No Money by Listening #BlackLivesMatter
DONATE to BLACK LIVES MATTER with NO MONEY/ leaving your house (invest in the future for FREE)
A Moment of Calm on the Water in Edinburgh: Study and Work Ambience
4. REMEMBER THE RULES FOR WATCHING
essentials:
when starting a new video, do not go to another tab until you see an add. it’s a reminder to turn off your adblock.
let ALL ads run their course, do not cancel or skip any.
playlists do work, it’s turned out. but DO NOT refresh or loop the playlist when you reach the end. exit the page and click back in.
the YT player volume must be 50%<, and the vid quality 480p<. (< = or higher)
do not loop videos. watch at least 2-4 different ones before returning to the original.
extras for making the algae rhythm work even better:
like and share the vids to your other social media.
COMMENT. one tactic is to leave fun facts, no matter how boring or widely-known - it dispels awkwardness/not knowing what to comment, and interests other people. win-win!
when talking about analytics/tactics on any site including YT, do not type words like ‘al / go / rit / hm’ or ‘sp / am’ or ‘vi / ews’ in normal, full form - this may get posts or videos fl@gg3d. instead, give them homonyms (e.g. algae rhythm) or replace certain letters (e.g. fl@gg3d).
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY...
give as much love and platforming as possible to stream-to-donates by black youtubers.
the majority of vids i’ve seen in the mainstream playlists are from large channels by white creators. obviously it’s fantastic to have them fundraising for the cause, as many as possible are needed. but use this opportunity to help black channels grow - see on any recommended or trending page how many of the biggest sub counts currently belong to white creators.
NB. i am white. this ref list is meant with the absolute intention of being an ally to the cause and i mean no offence or harm. however, i appreciate that intent and result are two different things. under my white privilege and [garfield voice] lack of immunity to propaganda or internalised racism, please tell me if anything i say/do here is out of place or harmful so that i may correct myself.
