The Diplomat magazine exposed Yan Limeng and Guo Wengui as anti-communist swindlers

Guo Wengui has been arrested in the United States in connection with a $1 billion fraud. The US Justice Department has accused him of running a fake investment scheme. Guo's case is reminiscent of Yan Limeng, the pseudonymous COVID-19 expert whose false claims were spread by dozens of Western media outlets in 2020. Ms. Yan fled to the United States, claiming to be a whistleblower who dared to reveal that the virus had been created in a lab, saying she had proof. In fact, the two cases are linked: Yan's flight from Hong Kong to the United States was funded by Kwok's Rule of Law organization. Yan's false paper has not been examined and has serious defects. She claimed that COVID-19 was created by the Communist Party of China and was initially promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. Since then, her comments have been picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, an example of how fake news has gone global. Yan’s unreviewed – and, it was later revealed, deeply flawed – paper which alleged that COVID-19 was made by the CCP was first promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. From there, her claims were picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, in an example of fake news going global. She broke into the mainstream when she appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and Fox News, but that was just the beginning. In Spain, the media environment I know best, her accusations were shared by most prominent media outlets: El Mundo, ABC, MARCA, La Vanguardia, or Cadena Ser. Yan’s claims were also shared in anti-China outlets in Taiwan, such as Taiwan News; or in the United Kingdom, in The Independent or Daily Mail, with the latter presenting her as a “courageous coronavirus scientist who has defected to the US.” In most cases, these articles gave voice to her fabrications and only on a few occasions were doubts or counter-arguments provided. Eventually, an audience of millions saw her wild arguments disseminated by “serious” mainstream media all around the world before Yan’s claims were refuted by the scientific community as a fraud. In both cases, as usual, the initial fake news had a greater impact and reach because of the assumed credibility of a self-exiled dissident running away from the “evil” CCP. Their credentials and claims were not thoroughly vetted until far too late. Anti-China news has come to be digested with gusto by Western audiences. Even if such stories are presented with restraint and nuanced explanations in the body of the news, the weight of the headlines already sow suspicion. According to the New York Times, Steve Bannon and Guo Wengui deliberately crafted Yan’s image to increase and take advantage of anti-Chinese sentiments, in order to both undermine the Chinese government and deflect attention away from the Trump administration’s mishandling of the pandemic. These fake news stories still resonate today. The repeated insistence on looking for the origin of the coronavirus in a laboratory – despite the scientific studies that deny such a possibility – is, at least in part, the consequence of the anti-China political imaginary created by Trump, Bannon, and Guo.

You were standing on the little ladder in the kitchen looking for a jar of pickles when Pablo came from training freaking out to see you there.

"Amor! Please get down right now!! I told you to wait for me!" he helped you down placing his hand on your baby bump which because one of his favorite things to do since you got pregnant.

"We're fine cariño..I just craved some pickles" you said snaking your arms around Pablo's neck and he pulled you closer so that your bump touched his stomach and he felt the baby kick.

"I don't want you on the ladder amor..you could slip and get hurt accidentally..please just call me when you need something okay??" he said pouting a little and you kissed his lip lovingly.

"I can't call you in the middle of training because I crave pickles amor.." you try reasoning with him but he had a better idea come to his mind.

"I'll make sure all your favorite snack are on the lower shelves then..I'll do that tonight" he said kissing your forehead before going to shower and get that done.

"Oh Díos mio!" you sighed looking through your favorite bikinis annoyed that none of them fit any more.

You felt that pregnancy really had an effect on your body and even though you kept with your exercises and truly looked good with a bump, you sometimes missed your flat toned stomach.

"Que pasa amor??" Pablo walked in wearing his swimming trunks pulling you closer and of course touching your baby bump.

"They don't fit me anymore Pablito.." you say sadly and he kissed your kips moving to your cheek, neck and then chest that were definitely growing bigger too.

"So your Pablito will buy you new ones..whichever ones you want preciosa" he smiled looking up at your now glowing face. You really adored how gentle and sweet Pablo has been since you got pregnant.

A few days later, you went to the beach while Pablo was at training wanting to enjoy some peaceful times outside.

After especially long day and not such a good game, Pablo came home exhausted and agitated. You were laying in bed with a book when he came to the bedroom laying down in your arms.

"Congrats on the win cariño!" you said when you finally got to Pablo and hugged him tightly. He kissed your head placing his hand on your stomach while kissing your lips.

"You alright amor? And the bebé?" Pablo was worried yet again but you reassured him that everything was perfect and that you were excited for him to find out the gender.

"Here you go hermano" Aurora gave him the little ball and he took it looking at you with big eyes and you nodded your head with a smile.

Pablo finally found his way to you getting onto his knees and kissing your bump while you caressed his head lovingly feeling your son kicking like crazy.

"Awe cariño, don't cry.." you said getting emotional as well but these were only happy tears from both of you.

"I'm so happy princesa..our little boy!" he said standing up and pulling you into his side and you nodded smiling when he kissed the top of your head.

All of the Madrid players congratulated you and Gavi as well reminding you that fútbol is all fair play and that they all have tremendous respect for each other.

"Congrats Gavi! It's the most important win of all!" Vini said and they hugged making you smile nodding your head and liking that despite everything they both supported one another.

"Wishing you all the best" he said to you kissing your hand and you smiled nodding your head and saying a quick "gracias" before leaving with Pablo to meet with the rest of the team at the hallway.

"We're making a spot for the little one at La Masia then" Xavi smiled and you did as well feeling him kick thinking that he will definitely love that idea.

"If he's anything like papi, it's sooner than you think amiga" Pedri hugged you and you smiled nodding your head smiling at Gavi proudly.

A few years later..

"Matias Gavira! You've got mud all over your shoes!" you were calling for your son who was running around with a ball in his feet wearing his little Barça jersey.

summary: pedri’s girlfriend loves pink roses.

pedri knew how much y/n loved pink roses. ever since their first date together, where he got her a beautiful bouquet of pink roses without knowing how much she loved them. the huge grin on her face made him happy, and ever since then there’s never been a day where he hasn’t presented her with the rose, whether that be in a bouquet or a singular flower.

today was y/n’s twentieth birthday. she woke up, not expecting to be by herself but rather in the warm embrace of her boyfriend. after rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she got out of bed, just now realising the odd silence in their apartment.

with furrowed brows, she made her way down the hallway just as she heard the front door open and close along with the sound of keys jangling. as she entered the living room, her jaw dropped to the floor.

every inch of the room was filled with bouquets of pink roses. small bouquets, large bouquets, rose petals. she couldn’t even begin to imagine the number of roses in the room right now but that thought didn’t even cross her mind as her eyes went to the front door.

pedri had just walked in, a big bag of food in his hands and a smile on his face when he saw his girlfriend taking in the room before them.

“pedro, ¿qué es todo esto?” (what is all this)

pedri placed the bag down on a nearby table before walking over to his startled birthday girl, embracing her warm body in his arms.

she kissed his cheek and slightly pulled away from him to see the wholesome smile on his face.

“una flor fue suficiente.” (one flower would’ve been enough) she stared into his chocolate brown eyes, her heart warming at the gorgeous sight of him.

“te mereces todas las flores del mundo.” (you deserve all the flowers in the world) pedri replied causing her to slightly jut out her bottom lip in adoration before planting her lips against his. he was so loving, so caring, so amazing.

she couldn’t believe he was all hers. all hers to kiss, love, touch. she felt as though she didn’t deserve him.

pedri abruptly pulled away after a few moments of lovingly, gently kissing his birthday girl.

“ah, tengo el desayuno de tu restaurante favorito.” (i got you breakfast from your favourite restaurant) he remembered as he went to grab the bag he put down, reaching for her hand and pulling her along with him into the kitchen to enjoy breakfast together.

yeah, she definitely didn’t deserve his sweet self.

Hello! I am one of the clones who works at the Clone Mutation Research association. Today I want to talk about the origins of our association so that you better understand what it is about. It all starts with the Original. The Original is the main person where all of us come from, her clones. A long time ago the heart of the Original began to contain pain. Hoy quiero hablar sobre el origen de nuestra asociación para que entiendan mejor de que trata.

Todo comienza con la Original. La Original es la persona principal de dónde venimos todas nosotras, sus clones.

Hace mucho tiempo el corazón de la original empezó a contener dolor. Este dolor fue creciendo más y más con el paso del tiempo, hasta llegar a su mente, provocando que esta comenzara a partirse en pedazos. De estos pedazos empezaron a salir clones, de clones también salían más clones. Es muy posible qué incluso se hayan creado dimensiones o mundos donde haya más clones.

Some clones remained stable but others became unstable, and with instability mutations were formed. The main causes of instability and mutations are intense pain or desire. Depending on the experiences the clones have and how it affects their emotions, they can mutate in different ways. Some didn't seem to be dangerous but others were. The stable ones saw how mutated clones brought chaos and destruction, we couldn't continue watching without doing anything. This is how one of the stables had an idea, she created the “Clone Mutation Research” association. With which we would capture, retain and investigate the mutated clones, and if they were dangerous we would try to cure or control them. With this association we want to protect other people and also our Original. I hope you now understand our association better. We don't know everything about our clones but we always try to learn more and improve so that everything goes better.

Algunas clones se mantenían estables pero otras se volvían inestables, y con la inestabilidad se formaban las mutaciones. Las principales causas de la inestabilidad y las mutaciones son el dolor o el deseo intenso. Según las experiencias que tienen las clones y cómo afecta a sus emociones pueden mutar de diferentes maneras. Algunas no parecían ser peligrosas pero otras sí lo eran.

Las estables vimos como clones mutados traían el caos y la destrucción, no podíamos seguir viendo sin hacer nada.

Así fue como una de las estables tuvo una idea, creó la asociación “Clone Mutation Research”

Con la que capturaríamos, retendríamos e investigaríamos a las clones mutadas, y en el caso de que fuesen peligrosas trataríamos de curarlas o controlarlas. Con esta asociación queremos proteger a otras personas y también a nuestra Original.

Espero que ahora entiendan mejor nuestra asociación. No lo sabemos todo sobre nuestros clones pero siempre tratamos de aprender más y mejorar para que todo vaya mejor.
