i see the complaint about d&d's lore being all over the place a lot and i get it & even agree but i feel like comparing a game series with a ttrpg with thousands of random writers that was 20 years old even at the time the other game was created feels a bit unfair 😭 like tes gets design teams with a vision to carve out but d&d got decisions basically at random every edition based on approximate player feedback like the constant adding and removing of psychic powers bc people kept going we HATE psychic powers. no wait we miss them add them back. no we HATE psionics. and add to that going through the layers of fluff added over time feels like individual writers constantly having pissing contests trying to be the definitive d&d writer of the time, trying to craft the Better idea of gods/magic to one up each other, trying to create the Most Evil creature, retconning each others characters or systems or just outright stealing from better known fantasy sources to graft on one atmosphere to the campaign they wanted to make canon. nerd superiority complexes supercharged etc. i wont claim to be an expert on tes fluff but it sort of feels like comparing the entirety of some comic publisher and the various titles (universally recognized as varied to the point of self incoherence if you dont pick and choose your writers/arcs) to one comic from a small publisher (not that you could consider bethesda. small) able to have a tighter grip on its direction. mechanically 5e did a lot to prune the system down to basics but i feel like doing any more would get rid of the spirit of it being a sort of "pick and choose what you like" sort of deal. though if youre interested in a system with relatively more lore coherence to look through there's pathfinder, which from 2009-now has had a grand total of four core sourcebooks released between the editions as compared to d&d's 1974-now count of 41+
we agree! i wasn't really expecting the post that you saw to leave tesblr. it's part of a years-long conversation about the elder scrolls series and—much is made about this around here—the various ways that it derives from other fantasy media. my aim was to acknowledge the way that tes, which began in d&d, occasionally challenged the conventions of the genre at the time that it was made

Padomaic Leaders, by Feivelyn
From Left to Right: The King of Yneslea, the Prince of Esroniet and the Governor of Cathnoquey.
The Esri and Ynesai, each with a long, proud and storied history, claim descent from the Men of Akavir (AKA the original tsaesci) who fled the onslaught of the snakemen that drove them from their own continent. Their monarchs are represented here. The Keptu-Quey and Chimeri-Quey are far more aloof about their history, though their names lend clear credence to a tamrielic origin, and possess no unifying figurehead among them. The Governor of Cathnoquey is an Imperial Official of Cyrodiilic birth, charged with overseeing both the Empire’s financial interests and its relations with the local peoples- A task made more difficult by the brute excesses of Uriel V’s invasion, which still looms large over the Isles even centuries later.
The Padomaic Isles are the unjustly subjugated colonies of an Empire in terminal decay. While the Quey peoples as of yet seem to accept the Empire’s rule, the Yneslean Isles remain only loosely under its control, and the Prince of Esroniet has all but subverted its authority, forcing its institutions to heel in the absence of strong oversight from Cyrodiil.
Padomaic Isles is a project under the umbrella of Project Tamriel and Tamriel Rebuilt which aims to implement the eastern island nations of Nirn to the Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Cathnoquey in its entirety will be the project’s first release.

15. What's your favourite relaxing piece?
This game cannot come out soon enough. Not least because I need its soundtrack on spotify. This is a tune that sometimes plays in your camp, and they added it to the early access a wee bit after I started playing it. So it took me by surprise and I remember just standing there motionless to listen to it when it first triggered like what is this it's beautiful. Also, in the process of tracking down this video to include here, I see the composer is confirming that it can be considered a variation of a theme related to a particular character, and it just so happens to be a character I'm particularly fond of. So now I love the track even more. Thank you for facilitating that!

Honourable mention also for near the entirety of the Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online soundtracks for relaxing pieces as well.

Still brimming with rage about the lesbian flag drama. This shit only ever happens online because these dork ass uwu bullshit chronically online gays never leave their houses or talk to anyone including their own community. But its still affecting Emily in real life and that's horrible. I don't give a shit how much of a "woke" fucking intellect hater you are. If you're LGBT its your responsibility to learn our history. Because its true when they say history repeats itself. That's exactly what's happening right now!
I don't care how gay you are. I don't care that you live for gaytwt and have a pfp of an anime character in front of a pride flag. You can still be homophobic. No matter how progressive you think you are it is homophobic to tell a lesbian she can't use her own word. Its homophobic to bully her into taking her shop down. Its homophobic to make low effort pastel versions of her flag. You are exactly what you hate. You are the cishet people telling LGBT's what we can and cant do. You are the cishet people shutting down LGBT businesses and kicking us out of our homes. You are the cishet people stealing our pride and trying to take it for themselves whether that be overpriced rainbow tshirts or straight pride parades. This is exactly what the homophobes want because while your bullying a fellow member of our community they're taking away our rights and hurting our futures and killing us.
Im the same age as all of these people creating this discourse, and yet i want to say grow the fuck up. Pick up a book on anarchism. Watch a Harvey Milk documentary. Look at the pictures of the very real gay people in the 80's holding fag signs. Talk to your local lesbian grandma and she'll tell you how embracing the word dyke changed her life. Because one day someone on the street will actually call you a slur. One day someone will jump you for kissing your partner on a bus. One day someone will look you up and down and kick you out of a public bathroom. And you'll look back and think "what the fuck was i doing? Why was i fighting my own people when i could have been fighting them?"
Emily isn't offending anyone by saying dyke you are offending our elders who fought tooth and nail to reclaim it and to get to call themselves that at all.
No one cares what you think is right and wrong! You don't get to decide! The entirety of the LGBT community isn't following you on twitter or scrolling through your tiktoks. Learn something, please.

Stormcloaks or Imperials?
So, obviously the real answer is "who would your character side with?" And really, the negotiated settlement route is the best choice, kicking the can until hopefully either the Thalmor play their hand and piss off the Empire enough to abandon the concordat and legalize the cult of Talos again or the Markarth incident is forgotten and Skyrim can regain the autonomy it had previously. But, if we're applying real-world ideology to a fantasy setting, and if a side has to be declared "right":
The Stormcloaks have a right to self-determination in the face of the Empire's denial of their right to free worship. Skyrim remaining in the Empire would probably be better for the Nords and Tamriel overall, but that can't be dictated to them. "It's for your own good" can't trump human rights.
Yes, Ulfric is racist. Deeply racist, his man Galmar evoking the Ehlnofex race war from literally before the dawn of time. Racist not just against the Dunmer, which is honestly almost understandable (how would Mexico feel about American refugees? Especially if Americans lived a thousand years and most of them were alive for the Mexican-American war?), but actually more racist against Argonians, which is honestly pretty weird. (Why? Because of Umbriel? The Knahaten Flu? That was generations ago. Under Hoag Stormcloak they weren't banned from the city. It honestly doesn't make sense.)
Ulfric did also prompt the crackdown on the cult of Talos in the first place. Remember the Markarth Incident? Reachmen (a whole other issue) took over Markarth, and a militia led by Ulfric took it back and said they would occupy it until the Empire legalized Talos worship. Prior to that, Talos worship was definitely illegal in Skyrim as with everywhere else (play Elder Scrolls: Blades), but it wasn't very strongly enforced in Skyrim. After Ulfric's stunt, it was very strongly enforced. Now, it seems most likely that Ulfric did this because he was stupid -- if he was smart he wouldn't have killed Torygg. It can't be ruled out that he did it to create instability in which he could gain power. But it does seem more likely that he was just stupid. But Ulfric's demands were not unreasonable. He voted Green when he should've voted Dem, in essence, and blew it all up. He wasn't pragmatic, but he shouldn't be faulted for idealism.
(The Altmer in Windhelm do not make Ulfric not a racist by the way; The Pocket Guide to the Empire, I forget which edition, pretty much definitively establishes that most Altmer who live outside of the Summerset Isles are exiles. Ulfric would be predisposed to quite like an Altmer political exile.)
Ulfric is a bigot and frankly a bad leader. It really should go without saying that Ulfric is not the entirety of the Stormcloaks. In Riften we see several licensed Argonian merchants and even landowners fully accepted, and a Dunmer holding a prominent position in Dawnstar even despite his shady past. (The latter might be called a token exception, but you gotta remember every city in that game has like 30 dudes in it so Erandur is like 3% of Dawnstar's population.) The Stormcloaks are united by their cause, not by loyalty to Ulfric. The only Stormcloak Jarl who actually seems to even like him is Skald of Dawnstar -- that's probably because, again, Ulfric is probably stupid, and the Jarls know it. Ulfric is undoubtedly an extremely problematic element of the Stormcloak administration, but not really a very powerful one, and to reiterate, a flawed administration, even a bigoted one, does not exempt its people from a right to independence. (There are some recent real-world examples which I feel it would be disrespectful for me to bring up.)
By the way, this is very different from the American civil war. The Confederacy seceded explicitly because the federal government was trying to remove a form of oppression. The Stormcloaks rebelled because the Empire was reasserting oppression. As evidenced by all the talk from Windhelm's Dunmer and Argonians about "ever since Ulfric came along," Windhelm was not a racist city prior to the rebellion. Ulfric's oppression of Windhelm's racial minorities is less akin to Confederate slavery and more akin to American internment camps in World War Two (which to be clear were very bad, and also very different from fighting a war to preserve institution chattel slavery. All throughout human history you see a flareup of xenophobia during wars. War is bad.)
You can also consider the alternative. From a utilitarian perspective, an Imperial victory is worse because the suffering of two small immigrant communities in one city is replaced with the suffering of a religious group representing something like a third of all of Skyrim. (No suffering is not an option because The Elder Scrolls is diet grimdark.) Again, the negotiated settlement really is the best option, but that's a cop-out, so, Stormcloaks. That said, in most of my playthroughs I went Imperial lol.

Bethesda Gives A Small Update On The Elder Scrolls 6
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/bethesda-gives-a-small-update-on-the-elder-scrolls-6/
Bethesda Gives A Small Update On The Elder Scrolls 6
Tumblr media
If you’ve been paying attention to our Game Gauntlet, a bracket where our readers decide the best game of all time, you might have noticed one contender has been an unstoppable force – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It nuked Fallout 3, omnislashed Final Fantasy VII, felled Elden Ring (without using spirit ashes), and survived the hordes of The Last of Us. Skyrim was a groundbreaking open-world adventure when it was first released, and fans clearly have plenty of love for it in the 13 years since then and now, so it’s no surprise the gaming community has been clamoring for news about a sequel for years now. Luckily, we do have a minor update for fans who need something to tide them over just a little longer.
Thirty years ago, The Elder Scrolls series began with The Elder Scrolls: Arena, so Bethesda put together a little celebratory post touring through each game in the franchise. The post, which you can read in its entirety below, ends with a small section about the highly anticipated next entry.
Tumblr media
The relevant section says, “Last but not least, yes, we are in development on the next chapter – The Elder Scrolls VI. Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure.”
There’s really not much to go on, but as Kotaku points out, this does confirm that the series will stay on the continent of Tamriel rather than venturing off to other areas in the fantasy world, along with the fact that the game is at least in a playable state. That said, there’s no telling how far off from release it still is; the last we heard was from Microsoft’s private documents that were leaked during its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which put the release date somewhere 2026 or later.
For more Bethesda, check out the news about The Elder Scrolls’ newest spin-off,  read our Starfield review, and see which Xbox games are coming to other platforms.

Starfield Review: Bethesda's Epic RPG Takes You to the Stars and Beyond
Tumblr media
Starfield, the latest offering from Bethesda Game Studios, takes gamers on a celestial adventure in a brand-new universe. Departing from the familiar realms of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, this colossal RPG transports players to the depths of space, promising exploration on an unprecedented scale with a staggering 1,000 planets to visit and a multitude of captivating stories to immerse yourself in. Prepare to forge your unique path among the stars, unearthing ancient relics in the forgotten corners of the cosmos. As you create your character, construct your dream spaceship, and assemble your crew of companions, Starfield invites you to embark on an odyssey that redefines epic gaming.
A Departure from Expectations
Anticipation for Starfield was sky-high, with fans envisioning "Skyrim in Space," "Fallout in Space," or even "No Man's Sky…in Space." However, Starfield manages to carve out its niche, offering an exhilarating and surprising experience while retaining the classic Bethesda RPG elements that players love. The game introduces a structure that is both familiar and refreshingly unpredictable.
The Verdict
Is Starfield worthy of its lineage, following in the footsteps of Bethesda's iconic RPGs? The answer is an emphatic yes. This ambitious title stands out as something truly special from the outset.
Reviewing the Cosmos
Summarizing the entirety of Starfield is a challenge in itself, given its vastness. However, our Features Editor and dedicated space explorer, Ben Sledge, has spent considerable time navigating the game and has shared his insights.
In his review, Ben praises Starfield, saying, "Bethesda boldly launches to the stars with Starfield, confidently planting its flag in the loamy soil of a thousand planets to stake its claim as the best RPG the developer has made to date. It excels in unexpected areas, with quests and characters being the highlights. The main story is surprisingly strong, with great central characters and a solid narrative hook, despite a slow start."
Bethesda's trademark side quests shine in Starfield, breathing life into the universe. However, Ben points out, "These side quests are too few and far between. Interplanetary travel is tedious, and too many planets are devoid of interest. It's in these fringes that the cracks in Bethesda's procedural generation start to show. These issues are quickly forgotten as soon as you return to civilization, however, and explore another vast city teeming with life and teasing myriad secrets around every corner."
Time Well Spent
Starfield is a colossal game in every sense. With 1,000 planets to explore and a dedicated modding community at your fingertips, prepare to bid adieu to your social life indefinitely. Playing through the main story alone will take you around 30 to 40 hours, depending on your pace. However, this represents just the tip of the cosmic iceberg. Delving into exploration, side quests, and building your galactic legacy will likely extend your playtime to a whopping 50 to 100 hours, with some dedicated players easily surpassing 100 hours.

Explosive Skyrim mod lets you unleash the wrath of the heavens
Tumblr media
I’ve seen and tried a lot of the best Skyrim mods in my time, but this has to be one of my favorites. Skyrim has been around for many years now, and the legendary Bethesda game is among the best RPG games, remaining at the pinnacle of the series while we wait on the Elder Scrolls 6 release date. Yet while Skyrim encourages you to look to the stars for your skills, it stops short of actually bringing the very heavens down on your enemies… until now. The Constellation Magic mod for Skyrim comes courtesy of mod creator ‘Kittytail’ and, quite frankly, I can’t get enough of it. The pack includes four spells that draw on the stars themselves, unleashing them on anyone unfortunate enough to challenge your Dragonborn – or, in some cases, just be within a several-mile radius of them. Your introduction to Constellation Magic comes in the form of Novice spell Gravity Diamond, which traps your unfortunate victim in a shimmering gravity prison, rendering them unable to move. From there, things step up to the Expert spells, Stardust and Celestial Rays. Stardust opens a portal above your target’s head, dropping a meteorite from above that impacts to deal damage and stagger them, with Magicka damage also dealt to those of a magical persuasion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkFKl2CY6IQ Celestial Rays opens a similar portal to the heavens, but instead calls down a three-shot blast of pure Magicka from above, like a rapid-fire ion cannon of doom. Kittytail notes that the version seen in the demo video above isn’t doing the correct damage, so expect it to be even more devastating when you bring it to bear against Giants, Trolls, and Falmer alike. Every spell in this collection is spectacular, but the real showpiece of the set is its Master spell, Supernova. The description reads, “Tears a rupture into the Aetherius and brings forth volatile energy of pure devastation.” That might be an understatement. It’s almost worth trying out sight unseen, but if you want to know what you’re in for, Kittytail helpfully provides footage of Supernova in action. Initially, it seems as if nothing has happened, save for a bright flash of cosmic light. Then, as their camera pans upwards, an explosion roars out across the sky, followed by a colossal meteor storm. It’s not exactly the most subtle of tools, but if your goal is to make an enemy of an entire city’s population, there’s probably no more spectacular way to do it. The good news is that none of them are likely to survive the encounter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpyGq2Gbu3Q “Please keep in mind that the Supernova spell has the potential to damage everyone in the loaded cells,” Kittytail helpfully points out, “Townspeople and friendly NPCs from radiant events are likely going to be hit by a stray comet.” You have been warned. If you’re eager to get your hands on this unimaginable power, you can find Kittytail’s Constellation Magic mod here, along with the instructions to install it. Once in-game, the spell tomes will be automatically placed into your lists when you reach the appropriate skill level to use them. Note that they’re aligned with the fire element, and don’t get any benefit from dual casting – not that they need it. Go forth, and unleash the fury of the stars! Once you’ve cleared out the entirety of Solitude, you might be interested in taking a look at the impressive Morrowind remake built in Skyrim. Alternatively, we’ve got more of the best dragon games, along with more great games like Skyrim if you just can’t get enough open-world fantasy RPG action. Read the full article

Redfall reddit
Tumblr media
Redfall reddit Ps4#
Fans on Reddit discovered that Bethesda quietly removed a. 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: Your whole squad can play as any hero. Bethesda has seemingly dashed hopes of seeing new gameplay for Starfield and Redfall at Gamescom.
Redfall reddit Ps4#
Don’t expect to see it on PS5 or PS4 as Bethesda and Arkane Studios are now owned by. The game is a confirmed Xbox Series S/X and PC exclusive. Redfallis due out sometime in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. RELATED: Doom Developer is Working on Redfall With Bethesda The images originated on Reddit, where they were shared in the form of an Imgur album posted by a now-deleted account. Redfall will not be releasing on PS5 or PS4. Bethesda has officially delayed the release of both Starfield and Redfall from this year to 2023. Arkane is, of course, known for offering complete freedom in its games to players in terms of how they want to play and approach situations, so it’s good to know that that’s being extended to the game’s co-op side as well. The image has just been posted to reddit with the theme. That means that if all four players want to play as the same character, that’ll be completely possible. Nevertheless, the name has continued to rattle around in Elder Scrolls coverage. Redfall will feature four unique playable characters, each with their own abilities and playstyles, but when you’re playing 4-player co-op, your squad can be composed however you want. Bethesda writer Michael Kirkbride confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 wouldn't be called Redfall in a 2019 AMA. Recently Arkane took to Twitter to reveal a tidbit about that side of the experience that players will be glad to know about. Arkane is taking a lot of big new steps with Redfall, which is being billed as the studio’s biggest and most ambitious game yet, from creating an open world setting to make it playable in 4-player co-op in its entirety.

Honestly as time goes on I'm becoming more and more aware of the fact that as a concept Skyrim was a wonderful addition to the roster of main TES titles, but in practice it was a dumpster fire that I only continue playing/engaging in because being in the world itself helps me figure out how to completely gut the fucking story we have and rebuild it to be more faithful to earlier titles in my head.
As an idea? I love skyrim. As an actually released concrete narrative? I don't care for skyrim. I wouldnt say I Hate it, but I do not much care for it.

Our second game of our elder scrolls dnd campaign is under way and not even 1 hour in I’ve absorbed the soul of a dead god.
Hear me out- Soleili saw the mages from the collage of winterhold transporting the eye of Magnus, He recognised it as the artefact that lead to the night of tears and the following genocide of the snow elves. So panicking Soleili followed after them to stop them because he didn’t want the extinction of his people to be in vain, he made it across the bridge by the skin of his teeth, snuck into the chamber where the eye had been placed, and stayed there for hours trying to figure out how to get it back to its resting place and decided the best method was to simply push it, it was a floating orb of course how difficult could it be.
Cut to Soleili placing his hands on the orb, his eyes went white and he saw the fabric of the universe while hearing “the beating of the doom drum” I.e lorkhans supposedly dead heart. The shell of the orb opened up levitating Soleili in the air as it swirled around him before stabbing into him like a hundred shards of glass. Then it disappeared.
He can now see people’s “auras” I.e I have permanent detect undead enabled and a plus 5 to perception. The absorption lead to a massive blast that shook the entirety of winterhold and now I have the entire collage on alert as well as psijic monks after me.
The group broke into the collage, found me before them and were now in the niben under the collage itself.
And it turns out leaf knows Velehk Sain the pirate daedra you can summon in game via the gauntlet and the rings. Cue this interaction:
Sain: Aaahhh my darling~ the last we spoke you swore you’d cut out and feed me my own entrails if I ever so much as looked at you again, and yet here we are, you freed me from my prison in this wretched pit. Did you miss me that badly~?
Leaf: no we needed a distraction.
Sain: what-
*cut off as skipper tosses a bomb collapsing the tunnel and letting us escape as the mages arrive*
Seer: *staring at the collapsed tunnel* awfully cruel to leave him to clean up our mess like that.
Leaf: he deserves nothing less.
Dra’nor: I take it was a bad breakup then.
Soleil: *talking backwards body still in shock from the absorption* Id like to go home now dra’nor I don’t like the outside anymore.
