EOY Writing Wrap-up
I saw this post and loved the questions, so I'm going to answer them below! Looking forward to another year of writing and fandom!
favorite fic you wrote this year: For sure Unforgiven, it was my baby.
least favorite fic you wrote this year: Love Between Goddess and Demon ended up being kind of disappointing for me. It didn't develop how I wanted it to and I'll admit I abandoned it since it didn't have any readers.
favorite line/scene you wrote this year: Probably the first chapter of Unforgiven, I couldn't wait to get Leon and Jake together again ha ha.
total number of words you wrote this year: 131,491 published!
most popular fic this year: By hits and kudos it was Unforgiven. My oneshot Smoking got the most notes on Tumblr.
least popular fic this year: It was Three To One, which surprised me honestly.
longest completed fic you wrote this year: Love Stuck was my longest completed fic at 23,307 words.
shortest completed fic you wrote this year: Sparring Partners was a oneshot with 1,796 words.
longest wip of the year: Between Goddess and Demon was my longest unfinished fic. I wrote almost 40k words before I put it on pause.
shortest wip of the year: 365 is still a work in progress and has only 18,964 words so far.
fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year: A toss between Resident Evil and LBFAD. I got to write some cool RE stuff and did a short story for a zine!
favorite character to write about this year: Gotta be my boy Leon Kennedy. He's just so easy to torture.
favorite writing song/artist/album of this year: I listened to a lot of Halsey while writing this year lol. I needed the angst.
a fic you didn’t expect to write: Smoking was definitely unexpected! I've never even liked One Piece and when I watched the live action I swore I wouldn't write for it. But then...
something you learned this year: To take my time. I've gotten a lot better at being okay at writing at my own pace instead of some imagined timeline.
fic(s) you completed this year: Altogether I wrote four completed fics!
fics you’ll continue next year: I'll be finishing The Fate That Binds and 365 in 2024. I'd also like to go back and try to finish The Wish since I didn't last year.
current number of wips: I'm actively working on four wips at the moment, two the most seriously.
any new fics to start next year: Yes! I'm going to try to write the last of the Dark Heart series, and I miiiiiight try more One Piece. Maybe.
number of comments you haven’t read: Zero! I read them all and respond to pretty much all of them.
most memorable comment/review: I really liked reading the thirsty reblog tags on Smoking lol
events you participated in this year: I wrote a fic for the LBFAD Mini-Bang! It was so fun to meet some new people and see all the different ideas.
fics you wanted to write but didn’t: I had another Resident Evil fic I wanted to get done but never actually started. Maybe this is the year for it?
favorite fic you read this year: River of Stardust by @yoshi-09
favorite fandom to read fic from this year: I still like reading DMC fic! Also got to read some good Reylo fic and RE fic!

Nice Prompts in Bold☺️
***
If it was any other day, I probably would have stayed far away from the bar and the music that would make any normal human being deaf with all that blasting.
But not today.
Because today was a shitty day.
No. Scratch that. This was a shitty year. I could even go out on a whim and say that it could give 2020 a run for their money. I was on my second bottle of soju, not giving a damn at the concerned look the bartender was giving me. Some creep tried to get close but I just weren't having it - I swore I saw a stain on his pants as he scurried away from my murderous glare.
"Tough day?"
I rolled your eyes, preparing to give the unsuspecting stranger a piece of my mind. "Jason?"
Jason Todd, my childhood friend and partner-in-crime takes a seat across me. He signals to the bartender over the Christmas music for another tiny glass and soju. "It's been a while."
"You're not going to stop me?"
"And miss out on a drink? No way." Jason scoffs. "Now, why are you drinking like there's no tomorrow?"
I want to tell him. How I left my perfectly stable job because I was being ostracized. How my family supported me but insinuated that I should have done more - be more approachable, more likable, more friendly. How a few days after my graduation, my grandmother who was the only living grandparent to watch me grow up since I was a toddler passed away suddenly.
How I was so ridden with guilt that I couldn't do anything more.
But as I opened my mouth, I hear a small voice in my head.
You'll just be burdening others, like how you always do.
"I'm fine." I dismissed Jason's worries away. Maybe I could have done a better job about it as he does not look the least convinced. I cut him off before he can ask anything else.
"You're here to drink with me. So drink." I uncap the new bottle, pouring him a glass.
I can feel Jason's gaze bearing into my forehead.
***
The next thing I feel is the soft fabric of my sofa. Jason lays me down gently before heading to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I hear the sound of my air fryer being switched on.
"I made you some fries. Oily food always helped with hangovers back when we were in college." He chuckles, passing me the glass. I drink the water in one go, gasping for air once I was finished. The smell of fried food and being hydrated helped me to become sober again.
Jason's shuffling around the kitchen, getting the necessary utensils. But I know he's giving me space. That's what I always loved about him. He never pushed unless you decided to tell him yourself. Even when I had a big fight with my parents, he kept silent, providing a much needed listening ear.
"Hey, Jay?"
"Mm?"
"I left my job." I know this wasn't the best way to start a conversation but it had to be out in the open sooner than later. "Gran died." My lips wobble and my vision starts to become blurry simply just uttering those few words.
"I feel like crap."
Jason sits beside you and his sea green eyes provide a source of comfort in the mess that I'm drowning in.
"And you can feel sad about it."
I burst into tears. The thread that I've conjured in mid air to sew my heart back together snaps and I can't hold back. My sobs are raw and primal till the point that I wished that the soju wiped me out unconscious instead.
The only difference from all the other times I wallowed in my grief and self-pity was the man in front of me who has his arms tightly wrapped around me, gently rubbing my back.
"It'll be okay. I'm here." He repeats softly.
And what a difference it was.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be stupid."
"No." Jason carefully pries me away and looks me in the eye. "I'm sorry I wasn't there. If I had known, I wouldn't have gone with Dick on that stupid mission."
I frown. The mission that he was referring to was a Black Ops mission, infiltrating what Dick and him suspected to be a child trafficking ring ran by the Court of Owls. I knew how much this mission meant to Jason on a personal level.
"Don't say that. As much as it pains me to say, but no one knew that Gran was going to go so suddenly."
"You don't get it," Jason says with a certain hardness that takes you aback. "She was family to me too. I had so many things I wanted to tell her." He sighs, hands clasped tightly.
"Like how I wanna be more than friends with you."
"What? I don't-"
Jason smiles sadly. "When you left your job, Gran was sad to see that you lost your spark. Back then, I did ask her for advice and she told me that either way, I should have told you how I felt. She said that you would have said yes. But I felt that I would have been a jerk to lay that on you while you were struggling." Jason sighs. "I guess Gran could see it better than the both of us."
Even in the afterlife, Gran was still looking out for me.
"She would have smacked you upside on the head if she was here."
Jason lets out a bark of laughter and you join him with your tear stained face. "She definitely would."
"So, does your feelings still stand?"
It's Jason's turn to blink in confusion before breaking out into a big smile. "That is if you'll have me."
I lean in to kiss him. "Of course you big goof. Now that you told me all of this, you're never going to get rid of me." I tackle him to the sofa and we end up in a giggling mess.
Jason reaches up to give a kiss of his own and deepens it till I'm left breathless and spinning with ecstasy. I snuggle into Jason, his warm and comforting presence enough to make me forget about my woes.
"That's good. Because I plan to be with you in both good and bad days."

Maybe it's just my imagination but when they announced the s-class project for MA it sounded like they were about to jet off within months but now we've entered the fourth quarter, BOC is already promoting the year end count down and still nothing. I didn't expect them to start filming immediately but thought more information about the projects and the cast would be out by now..(that is assuming Mile got to do his china trip to the iqyi headquarters in secret like Apo's was supposed to be)
I'm unable to verify this information and don't particularly want to, but I read from the Chinese stalkers directly that they had gotten ahold of both of their flight information and then were pissed when Mile didn't come because they saw his flight information and then it was cancelled, and it was only Apo who went to iQIYI while Mile went to Belgium for the music festival.
They did clarify that they would go to China after they were done with Man Suang promotion, which I'm not sure... is now? It sounds like Indonesia release is on the horizon.
@ohyesididnotjustdothat and I were just chatting earlier today about our frustrations of not getting to see them do more work together in that they're actors and that's why we're here kind of work. I think it's particularly and painfully pronounced because KPTS was simulreleased on iQIYI alongside the Thai TV release and it's been...nada for their international streaming release plans.
It's great to see them be beloved and famous and highlighted as fashion darlings, and from what i've heard about Apo's role as Khem, he's a shoe-in for acting nominations this year, but it's just...so frustrating and painful to not get to participate in that (read: WATCHING HIS ACTING *FOAMS AT THE MOUTH*)
I'm guessing they'll be in China for probably at least 3-4 months and fly out of there for any other international work schedules, so they might be trying to wrap up some other Thailand-based sponsor obligations before they head out. They'll definitely be back in Thailand at the end of the year for the BOC EOY party though.
Folks were soooo frustrated that 3 months of filming where we had "no content" when they were actively shooting Man Suang when THAT IS THE CONTENT. At least this time, hopefully we'll get to see Man Suang and the making-of documentary as well as Wuju Bakery while they work on their Uni-Icon project and 4Minutes ramps up.
But it's just been such a flat "womp womp" for international fans this year. I know it's because I'm impatient but I'm literally sitting here shaking my fist screaming TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Idk if I'll get around to finishing these sketches but I do like some of them quite a bit so I figured I'd do a sketch dump kind of thing. Here are all unposted GW2 related sketches I've done within the last 2 years in no particular order:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty detailed sketches of Rhixak and Prim. I wanted to do fullbody drawings of these two but Idk if I'll get around to doing them. They look pretty nice on their own though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple messy sketches of Mib & Vizzis, as well as a more detailed one of Nise. That boy sure loves violence.
Tumblr media
Gwizz realizing how gay he is for Lucanus. Drawing charr is so hard... Having a hard time translating them to my artstyle..
Tumblr media
Sketches of how Corrow's body would look like under his armor. Something along these lines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Figuring out how Kos would look like. His magitech eye stuff mainly. Also how he was when he first re-entered society, wrapped in rags.
Also Rix's outfit design. Pretty mad scientist type stuff but with a sexy twist. The labcoat ends in a loincloth type thing and there are no pants in the outfit. I mean he does wear some kind of underwear under there but yeah. He has various other outfits as this is not at all lab safe in actuality, it's just his favourite to wear on free time.
Tumblr media
A sketchpage of various characters. Couple lines for Corrow. Sketches from before I figured out how he would look like under the armor. Possibly how his hair was back when he had hair.
Couple Zott doodles and a line for them.
Another attempt at Kos' magitech eyes and head design.
Idd and Eoi, long time no draw and first time for Eoi in fact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A sketch to figure out Nukke's hair-growth. I did one before, probably never posted that one either but here's the updated version!
Secondly we got a very rough sketch of a new character, a mordremvari named Ru. Well, he can't really remember anything before waking up free of Mordremoth.
He thinks his name starts with Ru, but can't remember anything else, so he just goes by Ru now. Still figuring out his design but I wanted to sketch out the basic idea, though I kinda ran out of energy while drawing it.
I've gotten Ru up to level 80 but I need to work to get one more piece of armor skin unlocked for him before his ingame look is complete so until then!

EOY book ask: 2, 3, and 4!
The ask is here!
2. did you reread anything? What?
- I reread Ender’s Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon and Shadow Puppets, all by Orson Scott Card. I was *super* into these books back in 2013 and I wanted to see if they held up- a lot does and a lot does not lol.
3. What were your top 5 books of the year?
- in no particular order :
How To Sell A Haunted House by Grady Hendrix,
The Burning God by R. F. Kuang,
The Other by Thomas Tryon,
Anno Dracula by Kim Newman, and
Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
- I’ve gotten really into Terry Pratchett this year! In particular his Witches books but I’ve been branching out now that I’ve wrapped those up. He’s so uniquely good at delivering devastating lines embedded within uplifting sensible messages and I love it.
Thank you so much for the ask!

Day 5 - Home Is You (Eoin/Paddy)
SAS Kink Heroes; MA18+, Knotting
Eoin sighed as Paddy spotted him and ducked back out of the tent. He had tried to give him the space he needed after The Incident, but five weeks with no words between them and no indication that Paddy was going to be able to look him in the eye any time soon had started to get him extremely frustrated.
He just wanted his boyfriend back.
Eoin marched out of the mess hall, following Paddy as he loped across camp. He disappeared into his new tent and Eoin followed, tying the flap down quickly with practised ease. Paddy was coiled tight as a spring, staring sightlessly at his shoes.
Eoin hovered over him, hands limp at his sides.
'You hurt me. You gave me three massive scars down the side of my face, and you turned me into a werewolf like you and Mike, but I've forgiven you all that and I'd like it if you could try and forgive yourself too.'
Paddy said nothing. Eoin knelt down in front of him, gently, so as not to startle him.
'I miss you. I want to come home.'
Paddy's eyes flicked up to meet his, shame and anger and love warring one another. He didn't flinch when Eoin slipped his hands into his.
'Please let me come home.'
'...kiss me' Paddy muttered thickly.
Eoin eased up onto his knees, cradling Paddy's face as he pressed a delicate kiss to Paddy's lips. He felt him shudder; Paddy gripped his shoulder then his neck, eyes closed, breathing shallow.
Paddy let Eoin straddle his lap and push him back onto the bed. He opened his mouth a little wider and Eoin slipped in his tongue; they moaned and Eoin deepened the kiss, Paddy slipping both hands underneath his shirt and raking his fingers down Eoin's back.
'Take off your clothes' Eoin whispered.
Paddy pulled his pants down as Eoin wriggled out of his. Eoin lubed his fingers until they were slick and slowly stroked them back and forth across Paddy's entrance.
Paddy moaned and closed his eyes, unconciously spreading his legs further apart.
Eoin kissed him deeply as he breached him with a finger, sinking knuckle-deep and rubbing Paddy's walls.
'O-oh! Yes!' Paddy bucked against the intrusion, whining when Eoin added another digit. 'Come on, I'm not f-..I'm ready, promise'
Eoin ignored him, dragging kisses down his neck and pumping his hand, pushing a third finger inside him. Paddy pushed back, rocking his hips, needy whining reaching a higher pitch.
After five minutes of working him open, Eoin propped Paddy up with a pillow under his back as he pulled his hand away, slicked himself up and slowly, slowly, entered Paddy.
'Yess!' Paddy groaned and grabbed Eoin's hips, forcing him forward. Eoin yanked his hands away and started thrusting, pinning Paddy's wrists to the bed and sucking kisses along his collarbone and down the front of his chest.
They rocked against each other, trying not to make the camp bed creak. Paddy wrapped his legs around Eoin's waist, squeezing him with his thighs.
'How- AH!- fuck- how are you doing that?!' Paddy arched off the bed. There was a pressure in him, massaging every inch and making it feel like Eoin's cock was growing.
'Something's happening!' Eoin stuttered.
Paddy pulled himself out of Eoin's grip, raised himself onto his elbows and almost swooned. The base of Eoin's cock was growing rapidly right in front of his eyes. In fact, it was getting so big that he was having trouble pulling it in and out of Paddy.
'Tighearna milis thuas..' Paddy pulled Eoin flush against him with his legs as he struggled upright into his lap. Eoin's eyes fluttered closed and he raked his fingernails down Paddy's back as there was an obscene squelching sound and he was stuck inside his boyfriend.
'Can't stop- ó Íosa - can't-'
Eoin was whimpering and whining, rutting almost mindlessly in short, sharp bursts. Paddy clung to him, shaking violently as every thrust of Eoin's cock hit the bundle of nerves inside him that made him want to scream.
'Ag teacht!' Paddy squealed, then he arched his back again and painted Eoin's chest in a splattering arc as Eoin snapped his hips against him and came.
They fell over onto the bed breathing heavily. Paddy passed out as soon as his head hit the canvas, and when he woke up again Eoin was asleep on his chest and still buried inside him.
Paddy tried to squirm away from him so he could get a cloth to dry both of them, but when he tried to wriggle off Eoin he found he was stuck.
'Hmmhmf..' Eoin raised his head, blinking sleepily. He looked absolutely wrecked; his hair was plastered to his forehead and he could barely open his eyes.
'Um, Eoin..I can't get you out of me' Paddy hissed.
Paddy and Eoin froze at the sound of approaching footsteps, and Mike's familiar scent carried into the tent. They knew that he knew what they had been up to, there was not way he wouldn't, but pretending not to be present seemed like the less embarrasing option.
There was a pause. They heard Mike sigh.
'It's perfectly normal. It's called knotting; give it half an hour or so to deflate or you'll tear something. Good night.'
If it was possible for Eoin to die of embarrassment, he would. As for Paddy, he was content to hold his mate while Eoin buried his bright red face into the crook of his neck.

Solem et Stellas
Originally written as part of a year 10 EOY English exam. Edited 8 days later, after receiving feedback, to post here.
*Original prose short story*
Ivy was Australian. The outback country, the arid wasteland, a continent whose dryness is second only to the barren white of Antarctica. Ivy was an Australian. But as she stepped out into the ancient spanning, rust-red desert, she felt more homesick than ever.
“Keep up, Ives!” Her pa called from his place five metres in front of her. The indomitable spring in his step didn’t seem to notice the furious sun beating down on them from above, seemingly determined to turn them both to ash.    “You slow down and I’ll keep up!” she called back, but he bounded on a few metres further and turned, with a grin on his face- “what was that? Couldn’t hear you! Come on Ives, we're not far now!” Ivy rolled her eyes and quickened her pace, to the delight of the already large sweat pools in the armpit of her once purple, now mostly red shirt. ‘We’re not far now’ was something of a favourite phrase for her pa, as he had echoed the sentiment many times as of yet.
Ivy was a city girl. She liked being a city girl; her pa had grown up in the outback and liked talking about it. “You have it lucky Ivy- you don’t have to worry about snakes!” Or “spiders!” Or “getting fresh water!” Or “Melanoma at the age of 12 because the damned sun is jealous of earth-folk for not building cities on it instead!” or what have you. Him and Ivy lived in St Kilda, four minutes and sixteen seconds of walking away from a day well spent at the beach. Well spent for Ivy, that is. Pa never cared much for the beach. Ivy found herself longing for one such day as she made it to her pa’s side, relaxing the speedwalk she had adopted to catch up. The beach had sun, but not like this; it was gentle, soft, welcoming. The sun here was oppressive. And at the beach, you could always hop into the water to cool off. Instead, they just kept walking, her pa occasionally pointing out a lizard or interesting rock. The dust piled up on her shirt.
The desert wasn’t red anymore. As the sun hid its face behind the proud horizon, tired from a long day of glaring at Ivy, the landscape began to shift. As her and her pa settled down to sleep, she felt a chill cut through the arid blanket they had been wrapped in all day. The sand now settled into a cool brown and blue, and Ivy sat herself down and chewed on some trail mix. It was just her and her pa, for the most part. They faced the world together, an agreement they had made long ago.    She hadn’t been a small child when her other dad left, as the trope so often went. She was lucky enough to spend her first sixteen years as a team of three; but looking back she had realised that her dad had treated Pa like trash- she missed him, but understood that nobody would be better for him staying. She still saw him sometimes, always with some new man or woman he’d 'picked up' last week. It always went the same. He says hi, she says hi, he gives her her Christmas present- which is, invariably, a poster of a show she had told him about the last time they’d spoken- she gives him a card she’d made on the train there, she eats lunch with him and his partner of the month, takes the train back home, and spends her day with Pa. She tolerated Dad. She loved Pa.  And Pa loved her. He didn’t really ‘get’ Ivy, and they both understood this. He gave her space, she gave him socks for his birthday and her Sunday nights for watching the footy, and they both cooked each other the worst meals known to the human race.
As Ivy finished setting up her little sleeping-bag, she saw Pa standing apart from the little makeshift campsite they had created. Walking over to join him, she customarily tapped him on his left shoulder before pulling up by his right.    “Hey Ivy,” he said, turning to her. Damn. He somehow always managed to get over that trick - once she even tried tapping him on the correct shoulder to throw him off, and he still got it right. “Lovely night, isn’t it?”   “Yeah. Nice and cool for a change.” She had meant to joke with him. He looked at her.   “Look, I... know it’s a bit uncomfortable. We’ll be out of here soon. I just… I needed this” He turned his head away again, back to the horizon. The sun had fully set, and they stood in the light of the very bright lamp in Ivy’s left hand. “We… me and your dad… we didn’t do stuff like this. Well, he did stuff like this. I went with him. He didn’t come with me. He wouldn’t. He wouldn’t have.”   “I guess.” Ivy looked at the ground. They didn’t talk about Dad. Pa went back to smiling.   “This is my place, Ivy. Your place is the beach, right? My place is here.” He took in a deep breath and looked around. Ivy kicked herself. She felt awful about having complained all day. She glanced at him.   “I’m glad we’re at your place, Pa. I like it here,” she smiled. Smiling back, he ruffled her hair.   “Yeah, yeah. ‘I like it here, dad!' You don’t have to like it. But I have a feeling that you will,” and he turned off the lamp in Ivy’s hand.
The sky, before in its dying breath of orange and dark blue, split open as they looked up in unison. The sky crammed full of an infinite tapestry of tiny lights, all billions of kilometres away. You can see hundreds of stars from St Kilda beach. You can see trillions here.    “Oh… my…” Ivy stared, speechless. She had never seen anything so beautiful. Her pa grinned.    “Good, eh? Your Dad was never much for stars. He always liked the rain. What you reckon?” Pa held a light tone in his voice, but Ivy could see his eyes watering, and his hands were shaking. He smiled a huge, wobbly smile.    “The sun doesn’t get centre stage all the time, Ives. The stars can show their faces when they get the chance.”
And they stood, and stared at the blue and yellow and purple and gold tapestry spanning before them. Ivy wiped her had across her red shirt. Her hand came away coated in dust, and the purple shone in the light.

I am currently on track for the StoryGraph January Challenge. And I've read three books so far because of it, as well as making progress on LOTR.
The books? Prayer for the Crown Shy (I threw myself into it so it will show as my first book of the year in the 2023 EOY wrap up); the Becca Syme burnout book, which I think is the second in her series for authors; and Babel, which I just finished. And wow was that a ride.
I definitely need a palate cleanser so I think Legends and Lattes will be my next pick.

For your year end, 4, 13, 23!
[eoy asks!]
4. total number of words you wrote this year
AO3 says I published 94,798 words this year, but I'm pretty sure that includes three chapters of you could be the one that i keep that went up in 2022. I also have 25,947 words in my Google Docs technically written this year, so the answer is in the vicinity of 100,000.
13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year
Answered here! Suki Waterhouse's Moves was in fact my Spotify Wrapped top song of the year.
23. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
Do the oft-mentioned but rarely-worked-on WIPs count? I definitely wanted to write them a lot, usually at 11:30 at night, when I unfailingly decided to go to bed instead, or right before a work meeting, when I unfortunately had to be responsible.
There's also the Sere-Trace children in wild and unruly verse that I really should get to at some point, and—and I'm really going to regret this—the Hangman/Phoenix take the place of Rooster/Maverick wisp of an idea that is becoming less and less of a "that would be cool!" and more and more of a "I'm going to do it, aren't I?" by the minute.

8 December 2023
Be more aware of the cycle of the year
Observe (somehow?) solstices and equinoxes - reflection??
Read the darn tarot book, use tarot as a jumping off point for reflection, journaling, morning routine. Morning is also for cloud observations and cowl knitting.
A lot of things, many of my goals and even to-do items, have not changed since this time last year, but some huge changes have occurred. Find EOY journaling/reflection questions for the next few days wrapping up December. Can I repeat the same ones I used last year for consistency?
Also do a reflection specifically on my year of knitting and reading, mostly just for fun tbh.
Figure out a planner system for next year that I will actually use, ideally, bc clearly what I have right now isn't working. Might try using the dashboard, undecorated, for an ort of AM journaling on the right, record cloud cover/weather for scarf in the M-S tracker. What to put on the left? Functional to-do list, big events/memories, larger-scale journaling? Not sure I actually want to use the classic vertical for anything, but shame to have no bigger decorated planner.
BEFORE the new year:
swatch for weather cowl
specific plans for weather cowl: provisional cast on, first and/or last day of month pattern, observation time, is it /any/ rain or just at that time, one stripe or two
AO3 challenge: finish hannukah book. read a play. read David's romance rec.
update resume
choose 2024 word of the year
finalize planner intent
read tarot book?! (requested from library)
finish at least 4 placemats total
holiday cards: Robin Alexis, Jenn R, Jenn O,
think about solstice observation plans

wrapping it up
With 2023 coming to a quick close, I think it's important to plan some short term goals for the coming year.
Save more $$$ (let's say +20k this year, ~1.6k a month)
Travel!!!! Already have Taiwan and Indo in the works. Mexico at EOY?
Create at least 4 short films. Will need lots of practice, and execution of the projects needs to be more planned out.
At least 90% quota attainment at work in the first 6 months. This will be hard.
5-year, 10-year goals are in the works. I need to get a grasp of little behavioral changes I can make this year, starting with discipline and having a stronger sense of urgency. I've coasted through my last year and a half in Seattle, learned a lot about myself, and now it's time to set myself up for the future (while focusing on being present).
How ironic.

Finishing Up Challenges
It became too annoying to share challenge progress in my monthly wrap-ups, so I’ve stopped bothering (aside from basic percentages). I always like to check in around this time of year though to see how I’m doing on my challenges, figure out some books I can read to fill in the gaps, and plan an EOY TBR! Here’s where I am at the time of writing this post (mid-September). Must Read in 2023 Status:…

What next? ... Plans for EOY exhibition!
20 Sep 23
To do list:
Re shoot in lighting studio: Mali's Shrine and Get ready with Mali
New shoot - Portraits? Mali as deity, Mali as buddha of medicine.
It's time to do a wrap up moment and bring this back to where it started. I want to bring in the reason why I decided to explore the idea of prayers and religion. Which is my health journey! I have looked into the deity of health and healing, Buddha of Medicine. I plan on possibly using audio of the prayer to accompany a portrait of Mali. The portrait will be in video form: tacky, lo-fi, and lame. Including objects that are part of my own rituals that I have had to adapt to, these objects include: pill containers, colostomy bags, sharps disposable container, alcohol wipes ,skin barrier wipes, tweezers, saline, etc.
I have become fasinated with the act of worship in the digital age.
Below: Youtube shorts of buddhist prayers made with the app CapCut.
Below: Screenshots of pinterest feed after searching in Thai, "Hello Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun". These are very commonly sent in family groupchats by parents and grandparents. They have become a meme in Thai pop culture. All of the feeds are colour coordinated to match the assigned colour of each day. (The days have their own colours in Thailand)

What makes these YouTube prayer shorts and the daily affirmations so appealing to me is the use of unapogetically bright colours, tacky typefaces, silly transitions, etc. They are so bad and janky but I love it.
