Lullaby for a Stormy Night
(This is stupid, a songfic and absolutely made for the purity of being self indulgent. I've been doing that a lot but this one is super fluffy soooo here it is)
There were many nights in which Sumaru Kokuryuu forgot what kind of child he had taken in and others, others he remembered all too well.
The young man was currently burning midnight oil in his study, working on a report back to the family that might somehow, some way explain to them why it was he had not returned home to the compound yet. There was only so much that the council would allow and with his father gone, he knew full well that he could not stay away for long as the new head of the family. Yet as he mulled over the paper, quill in one hand and the candlelight continuing to flicker and cast shadows about the desk, he could not help but recognize a sort of hesitation growing more and more within him.
Outside he could rain falling and he by chance turned to look out the large glass window that looked out over the city, framed by the dark fabric of the curtains; it was dark, darker than he could ever remember it being, and his mind thought on the lack of moonlight, of any light. Paris was lost to the pounding of rain and the darkness of the storm and Sumaru took in a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment as he let himself pretend, dream that he was back within the forests that surrounded his old home, that he was under the boughs of the sacred tree Hanayume in the center of his family land, that he was back. There was a boom of thunder and he heard a startled cry which immediately made him once more open his eyes and turn this time to the doorway to the study.
The figure there, small and shaking, stared back at him from behind the doorframe and a pain crept into his heart, followed by a concern of when the child had even gotten there and why he wasn't currently still tucked into bed. Though of course some small part of him, deep down, understood the why: he thought of how they had met, of where he had found him, and of course the comfort of his temporary home away from home had to be so strange and unnatural to someone who had never known any true home. Just pain and revilement and fear, the latter of which he still showed in those wide eyes that watched Sumaru and upon realizing he was seen disappeared again behind the door.
He frowned lightly and sighed before speaking in a gentle, if not somewhat awkward voice. “Little one, there's no need to hide I promise.”
A soft whine was all he got in response, followed by another roar of thunder and yet another cry. Sumaru wondered what he had done to deserve this but he stood up, carefully pushing back his chair before making his way across the room. The closer he got to the door the more he could make out: there was a soft sob, and as he looked around the corner he found the boy curled up, hands alternating between trying to cover his ears and doing their best to try to hide his face. It was equal parts heartbreaking and sort of cute and with the lightest of smiles he bend down to scoop up the boy, making him cry out and grab hold tight as he could. It was not the first time that Sumaru had thought that he was far too small and far too light, that the boy was nothing but skin and bones, and as he carried him into the room, where there was light and the sound of rain and nothing else, he couldn't help but recognize why. The glisten of the boy's exposed skull, the way his wispy pale hair shimmered in the candlelight, and the strangeness of what had caused him to be so tormented for so long, the strangeness of half of the boy's face.
Yet all Sumaru could think was how light and small he was and how painful it was to hear him sob. “Does the thunder concern you, little angel?”
The boy started to mouth a “no” but another crack of thunder and he was clinging tight, burying his face in Sumaru's shoulder. And all he could think to do was rub his back and sigh softly, glancing outside once more, at rain and storm and wind. Then back into the room, at his desk, the books in their shelves, the candles flickering and the chairs about.
And the black grand piano sitting in the corner by the window, and with a hum he walked closer, continuing to hold the boy as he sat down. He ran his fingers over the keys for a second, feeling their cool smoothness before starting to play a few notes, and feeling the boy's grip relax just a bit. He smiled and continued to play, a soft gentle melody, a lullaby from his memories that reminded of storms of the past, of being little, of being scared, of being lost.
“Little child, be not afraid, though rain pounds harshly against the glass like an unwanted stranger, there is no danger, I am here tonight,” Sumaru sang gently, slowly, carefully, “Little child, be not afraid, though thunder explodes and lightning flash illuminates your tearstained face, I am here tonight.
“And someday you'll know that nature is so, the same rain that draws you near me falls on rivers and land, on forests and sand, makes the beautiful world you'll see in the morning...”
For it was true he knew; for the storm here was no different than the storms he had memories of from home, the same as the storms in the countryside, as the rain that fell upon everywhere else from the beginning to the end. But the point wasn't to tell him that he was wrong to fear so much as it was to soothe and remind him, this child who had known so much ugliness for something as small as the circumstance of birth, that there was beauty and he had a right to see it.
Another thunderclap and a flash of lightning, the rain continued to fall but Sumaru, Sumaru continued to sing. “Little child, be not afraid, though storm clouds mask your beloved moon and it's candlelight beams, still keep pleasant dreams, I am here tonight.”
He chanced to smile at the boy, continuing his playing and seeing those wide eyes, those intelligent eyes, those brilliant eyes looking up at him before a pounding upon the window made him jump and both looked over to see a tree branch hitting the window. Sumaru did his best not to laugh and continued to sing and play, “Little child, be not afraid, though wind makes creatures of our trees and their branches to hands, they're not real, understand, and I am here tonight.
“And someday you'll know that nature is so, the same rain that draws you near me falls on rivers and land, on forest and sand, makes the beautiful world you'll see in the morning....”
He stopped playing just enough to adjust the boy, redirecting his attention back to the piano and with a gentle smile coaxed him into playing as well. He knew he could, he had heard before and he knew how important it really was to him. The boy fell into it and played the notes perfectly along with Sumaru while on his lap; the man chuckled lightly and thought, thinking of strange it was. Because he knew that a long time ago, back home, when he'd just been a little boy himself, he too had had to be coaxed to play on a rainy night. Maybe this was just fate.
“For you know, once even I was a little child, and I was afraid, but a gentle someone always came to dry all my tears, trade sweet sleep for fears and to give a kiss goodnight.”
But Sumaru's memory was of family, of a father who had loved him, of a mother who cared, of siblings and though he couldn't trust many outside of the inner circle, he still knew so much more love than this boy. He knew what it felt to be kissed goodnight and to share that he gave a soft kiss to the top of the boy's head, causing him to stare up at him once more with wide eyes. But Sumaru, Sumaru just smiled. “Well now I am grown and these years have shown that rain's a part of how life goes. But it's dark and it's late, so I'll hole you and wait, til your frightened eyes do close.”
The boy bit down on that swollen lip again but Sumaru found his voice, so sweet and angelic, joining as the finale came. “And I hope that you'll know that nature is so, the same rain that draws you near me falls on rivers and land, on forests and sands, makes the beautiful world that you'll see in the morning.”
“Everything's fine in the morning,” he sang.
“The rain'll be gone in the morning,” the boy sang.
“But I'll still be here in the morning.” Both sang together and Sumaru hugged the boy close, letting him finish the melody on the piano.
There was of course more thunder but the boy didn't shake, didn't cry, and there was a softness, a leaning in that made the man's heart melt. Especially as the boy turned to wrap skinny arms around his torso and hold close.
“Feel better now little angel?” Sumaru asked gently and got a nod in response.
“Erik feels much better, sir.” Okay that definitely made him chuckle.
“Chisana tenshi, I told you before; you don't need to call me sir or anything of the like. My name is Sumaru, and you are safe with me. You will always be safe with me.”
“....alright Sumaru.” The young man sighed gently. Some nights, some nights he really was unable to forget just what kind of child he had taken in. But whether a stormy night or as clear as could be, he wouldn't trade this sweet little angel for anything.

Since the ep is INSPIRED by POTO, I’mma point out the similarities and differences
Similarities/references to POTO:
-There are obvious parodies of the characters in the book/musical. Neema’s obviously the Phantom, Paka kinda has Christine’s role, Nne and Tano are kinda like Madame Giry, and there’s an herbivore with Carlotta’s role. Maybe a wild ass
-Neema pulls very similar stunts Erik pulls, mainly sabotaging performances. But he also has a secret lair in a water cave that he takes Kiburi’s float and Paka
-The Grasslands has a tradition called the “kupiga mpira”, meaning “masquerade ball” where everyone dresses up in costumes. Neema crashes the party lol
-Like Christine, Paka is a (rookie) performer and has a relationship with the Phantom
-I guess you could say both Erik and Neema had a hard life (granted, Neema’s past wasn’t as bad as Erik’s but still) that somehow affected their reputation
-He put Paka to sleep with a soothing melody (AKA he recreates “Music of the Night”)
-“[Why would anyone want to date a strange individual who’s killed people? That just sounds like a toxic relationship.]”-Neema at one point
-The reptiles like to refer to Neema as an “angel of music”
-Tamka brings up “the point of no return”
-Like Erik, Neema kills someone
-One of the reasons he sabotages a show is that a certain spot isn’t left for him. It’s HIS spot, no one else’s
-Neema and Erik both get exposed
-Both phantoms get affection at the end
-Neema’s point of no return is to either quit this double life thing and go back to being in Kiburi’s float or stick to being a phantom and leave his only family permanently. Although Tamka/Nduli think Neema’s gonna give THEM a choice to either join him or he’ll kill everybody, to which Kiburi shuts it down cuz that makes zero sense
Differences:
-There is no operatic singing in the episode. It has singing (the Grasslands are a musical place) but not actual opera. Also there’s no Raoul nor Persian
-While Erik loves/is obsessed with Christine, Neema is aromantic and has no interest in anyone
-Neema does not wear a mask that covers his face (except during the masquerade scene)
-Like I said before, everything between them is platonic and healthy. Though Neema DOES have a soft spot for her. If anything, they’d be QPP’s
-Erik and Neema haunt their respective places for different reasons. Erik does it cuz of his passion for opera and obsession for Christine. Neema honestly just likes the music. The hero thing just comes with it.
-Two things: it was completely platonic and Neema hummed the song since he’s mute and can’t sing. It’s more of a lullaby than a romantic ballad
-Neema isn’t jealous nor possessive. The most he does when he sees Paka with someone else is make sure they don’t hurt her. He’s more protective if anything
-my guy is not a teacher. He’s never taught anyone anything (except maybe how to stand up for yourself)
-As much as I love the scene, it ain’t happening with Neema and Paka. Way too sexual for them (and the episode fic) 😭
-Unlike Erik he killed someone cuz he was hungry, not to sabotage the show. Though everybody else seems to think differently
-He doesn’t kill anyone cuz of it, although he does cause a monkey to interrupt it by scaring him
-While Erik’s face gets exposed during an opera in front of everyone, Neema’s confronted by Kiburi’s float and basically gets exposed then
-Erik gets a kiss while Neema and Paka share a hug and a head pat :)
-Neema’s ending is veeeeeeery different from Erik’s. Neema doesn’t die like in the book nor does he completely quit being a phantom and not see Paka again. He goes back with his float in the end, but he continues to be a Phantom hero in the Grasslands.
There’s a reason Neema kept up the whole “Phantom” act and it kinda has something to do with his past. Neema was raised by strict, but somewhat supportive parents as a hatchling. He never learned to actually talk but his parents convinced him that being quiet was a good thing. “Silence is golden” they’d always say. “Just do as you’re told and they’ll like you”. It was like that for a while until the day he saved that lizard. Being referred to as a “hero” awakened something in him that day. He likes being some mysterious heroic entity, he likes playing with the Grasslanders and telling them what to do, he likes keeping animals on their toes, he likes the music the Grasslands have.
He likes being his own animal.
He’s been following and obeying his leaders all his life. Don’t get him wrong, he doesn’t necessarily mind it and he loves his friends, but it just feels nice to be someone now that he’s found his passion.
Nne and Tano found out when they got hungry and wanted to try something different rather than a mole rat or trying to eat animals from the Pridelands. They soon found themselves in the Grasslands and just so happened to spot Paka walking around. Just as they cornered her, Neema came out of nowhere, gave Paka a chance to run away, and began to attack the pair…until they recognized him like “Hey wait a minute…we know you! You’re one of the crocodiles in Kiburi’s float! What’re you doing here?”. It took a bit, but the pair finally figured out that Neema was a phantom and decide to join him. They never let anyone know since (until Kiburi basically forced them to tell where Neema was going).
Ever since Paka heard about this supposed phantom saving one of her lizard friends, her sleep schedule has been out of whack (seeing how black-footed cats are nocturnal) and she’s been obsessed with seeing it for herself. It only grew when Neema saved her and she went from wanting to see him to wanting to get to know him. Luckily, Neema took interest in the little feline due to her personality and shared love for music and began watching over her. He’s even led her to his water cave (where he hummed her his lullaby) and their friendship grew from there. She doesn’t really understand him so they communicate by yes or no questions until Kiburi comes along. Same with Nne and Tano.
Unrelated, but I just realized a pattern with my headcanons for Kiburi’s float: I gave them all desires
Kiburi wants to be good enough to make his dad proud like he promised
Tamka wants to be seen as more than just one thing (which is an idiot). He wants to pursue his passion and show he’s capable of doing things
Neema wants to feel like somebody. Like I said, he’s been a follower for way too long and he wants to find himself
Nduli wants everything to stay the same. He’s lost so much due to change and he doesn’t want to lose anything or anybody else, so he clings to his loved ones in hopes they won’t let go
Wakali wants to be taken seriously since her young age and albinism causes other animals to underestimate her
Even Makuu wants to show everyone that he’s changed his ways and wants to leave a legacy. It was the same thing with Pua, although nowadays he just wants to live his best life
Ucheshi got what she wanted in that Udugu episode I have-she got her big brother back :)

Who do you ship Lucy with and what headcanons do you have for the pairings?
Took me a minute to figure out what to write but I think I got it.
Who I ship Lucy Heartfilia with + Headcanons
Zeref x Lucy 7/10
I am into dark romance stories so I guess that's why I like this pairing. If anything I like it because I do not see a Happy Ever After with these two together and I like that angst.
Headcanons:
Zeref was intrigued with Lucy when she was the only survivor during the Tartaros arc
When Fairy Tail disbanded and Natsu left Lucy was at her lowest and Zeref took advantage of that
Zeref took her prisoner to satisfy his curiosity about her
Turns out Zeref's curse did not affect Lucy at all and so He wanted to keep her, for he so longed for affection
Like I said this pairing is more of a super dark romance with possessive and codependency behavior
Flare x Lucy 5/10
Flare is just so cute around Lucy how can I not ship them.
Headcanons:
Flare is a very awkward and not very good with social cues so she clings to Lucy whenever she comes by Fairy Tail
Sleepovers at Lucy's house. No one is invited they want to be alone together
Flare is really good at drawing so she draw scenes from Lucy's novel
Lucy loves cooking but doesn't get the chance to show off her cooking skills often so whenever her and Flare have their special sleepovers Lucy goes all out. I'm talking Food Wars all out
Gray x Lucy 6/10
You have Juvia to blame for me liking this ship so much.
Headcanons:
Gray is and insomniac. So when he really can't sleep he'll seek Lucy out
Could be the middle of the night but Lucy always welcomes him with open arms
Lucy will sing him a lullabies to sooth him to sleep
Gray is the second person to read her novel after it was finished
Sting x Lucy x Rogue 4/10
I'm going to skip the headcanons with these three. Not much about this pairing just think all three are hot together.
Erik (Cobra) x Lucy 10/10
Headcanons:
Beauty and the Beats vibes
Since Lucy loves to cook she finds it fun to make poisonous meals for Cobra (there's more to life than bleach writers)
Horror movie buddies
Cobra loves listening to Lucy's soul. He's never seen a soul so pure yet so dark.
Cobra ended up injured very badly and had no way to contact his Guild. On the verge of passing out he heard Lucy's soul
Lucy was on her way back home from a solo job when she sees Cobra
Lucy was hesitant to help Cobra but after some back and forth in her head she dragged Cobra to a near by cave
Did her best to nurse him back to health even when they shouted poisonous words and long over due feelings at each other
They ended up growing closer because Lucy seemed to be the only person to read his soul just as good as he can read others
Natsu x Lucy 9/10
I can't think of any headcanons right now but the anime speaks for itself. They just have that chemistry.

Hello, sorry to bother you so much 🙈. You've just inspired me so! I'd love to know what what's your interpretation on Erik and kids? How would he feel if reader got pregnant? Especially with how busy those two are👀. No need to answer, just curious:)
Hello darling!! I’m truly flattered at your words!!!! (╹◡╹)♡ I decided to turn your questions into some brief headcannons for you!!!
Eriks relationship with children in general is kind of complicated In my opinion. On one hand, I could see him kind of trauma projecting if that makes sense?? Like I could see him envying the childhood he never had, wanting to be loved by his mother and an accepted member of society.
on the other hand, however, I could see him admiring the innocence and naivety that children posses. The fact that they don’t have to worry about the world strikes a strangely melancholic, but positive, chord in his inner being.
all of the above considered, Erik has never really entertained the idea of having a child of his own. Until he ends up head over heels in love with you of course. If you want children of your own, he’s going to give them to you, that being said, he does have a few fears.
one of his biggest fears is for your safety. God knows how dangerous childbirth was back then, and you are the most important being in the universe to Erik. The mere thought of living the rest of his life without you has him on the verge tears and heartbreak, so you have to be understanding when he voices his concerns for your well being.
now this second fear is a very, very, very sensitive topic for Erik. Erik is deathly terrified of passing his facial deformities down to your child. He knows that you and him both will love the child no matter what, but how will other people react? If they have deformities, will they get sicker easier and to a higher extreme?? Will the deformities kill them, the best thing he has ever created with you???? You have to reassure him everything will be okay, or he’ll probably have nightmares.
when you fall pregnant, Erik is elated!! But at the same time, his fears come to light with the force of a thousand suns. He basically becomes a mother hen if I’m honest.
you are barely allowed to do anything for yourself. Want to take a stroll around the catacombs? Eriks hovering like your going to disappear. Want to sew or crochet? Erik’s making you wear finger protectors because God forbid you get callouses or prick your finger.
Eriks also heavily monitoring your food intake, he wants to make sure you and your baby are properly nourished. Erik really likes to play soft music and lullabies to you and your unborn child in hopes of relaxing you, and maybe the child can have a touch for music when they’re born!
and finally after a long day, when Erik is absolutely sure nothing else can be done to assist you,(honestly he could probably find something, you have to be the one to tell him to chill out) he likes to lay his head on your stomach and listen to the growing child in your belly while you play with his patchy hair, before sleep overtakes you both.

Cuddle Bug
Tumblr media
PAIRING: Tsugaru/Erik/Arsene x Female Reader, Shizuku x Male Reader (Romantic) (Fluff)
SUMMARY: They love to cuddle their favorite person, (Y/N).
Tsugaru lives for cuddle sessions. It’s the full proof way for him to cheer you up if you’re in a bad mood. Hours under the blankets, with his favorite pillow, and his favorite gal. Not a thing in the world to worry about. That is until Shizuku whacks him on the head for sleeping in when they’re doing an investigation.
Better hope it’s not summer because Tsugaru will cling to you and you’re not getting out unless you’re stronger than him. He also snores so if that’s hard for you to sleep through then prepare to get ear muffs. Tsugaru loves to tease so he’ll stuff his face in your chest since it’s “his second and third favorite pillow.”
Tumblr media
Erik is never really relaxed while cuddling, always on edge that someone is trying to kidnap or kill you both; This feeling will lessen the longer you remain his girlfriend. It’d also ease his mind if you knew self defense.
He was rather shy to cuddle at first. Caressing his deformed face can lull him to sleep if he’s especially relaxed. Erik’s grip on you will tighten if he’s having a nightmare. He’ll also sing a lullaby whenever you’re sad. Seriously, his only goal in life is to make sure you’re happy, with him, forever.
Tumblr media
Always the gentleman, Arsene will adjust to any position that is most comfortable for you. He’ll make note to avoid touching any parts of your body that make you uncomfortable. The way he grips you won’t change, worried some thief will snatch you away while he’s most vulnerable.
Arsene often mumbles in his sleep, typically about you being his wife and living a life of luxury together. He will deny it to the ends of the earth if you speak on it, but his entire face will turn a bright red every single time.
Tumblr media
Shizuku has always slept stiff and light, prepared to aid her master in case of an emergency. It was rather hard for her to comprehend cuddling because of this. Add on to how shy she is and you’ll have to practically hold Shizuku in a bear hug to keep her close.
She loves to cuddle soon after, with a cute smile on her face as she snuggles into your chest. Of course that all went back to step one when she accidentally brushed her hand against your dick and nearly died from shock. Aya and Tsugaru had a good laugh though.

To find you in the endless chaos of this planet, of this universe, was nothing short of a miracle. Two souls intertwined to thoroughly, no force could untangle that bond. Nothing could erase you from his being. In your eyes he sees the poems Rem used to read, in your embrace he feels at home, in your voice he hears a thousand unsung lullabies. You're a million dawns all at once, painting his world in vivid colors. You have been, every day, even in the darkest, most hopeless of days, nestled in his heart.

I've seen a lot of people rant about the different versions of the character of Trigun and what is and isn't canon and how every iteration "ruins" something. And I've seen this slander the most when it comes to Tristamp Vash or just Vash in general. But here's the thing, I think they are all valid versions of him and they are all canon, they are simply different stages of him.
Welcome to my Ted talk on why I think every version of Vash makes perfect sense!
In my head the different versions of him evolve like this:
Pre-canon Vash before starting to lose his marbles
Tristamp Vash
Trigun '98 Vash (+ Badlands Rumble I guess)
Trimax Vash
And I think (hope) we will see this evolution through the later seasons of Trigun Stampede so I put the following into the context of if Tristamp explores the change in Vash.
Let's start with Tristamp Vash:
From the very first scene we see him in, it is clear that this man does not have all his ducks in a row. He has started to lose his mind and my guess is that most of it comes from the fact that he has realized that Kni has set his plans into motion, he has to act or everything he has tried to protect so far will go up in flames. But this takes a huge toll on him and shakes his very ideals, he is simply in denial about it. He puts on a mask and pretends everything is great, but he is shaken and he is angry.
People say that Tristamp Vash isn't angry, but how could you say that if so often when he has his gun pulled at someone truly evil and dangerous, he looks like he will fucking shoot them (EG Mine is probably the easiest example of that). I feel like the idea of "for the greater good" is sneaking into his head, but killing anyone is so opposite to what he believes in that it again tears at him.
He goes on this journey with Wolfwood and he knows that Wolfwood is there to babysit him, yet their ideals rub off on one another. They start very radical, especially WW, they both think they know when to pull the trigger. By the end Wolfwood gets softer in his views and Vash starts to see WW's POV too, enforcing the "sacrifice for the greater good" idea. The motif of WW and Vash changing each other is a core theme in every iteration of Trigun, but I put it here since it makes the most sense.
By the end of Tristamp S1 we have the July incident, it's something we haven't seen first hand in any other iteration of Trigun, it has always already happened so ofc this version of Vash is different, he only now goes through the incredible trauma of that event and he has his brain scrambled by Knives as a bonus.
This brings me to Trigun '98 Vash:
This man barely has any ducks left and they are scattered to the wind. The placement or Eriks is a bit difficult considering where it happens for the other versions, but I believe that when we get to Tristamp S2 we will pick up with Eriks who has lost most of his memories due to Knives meddling in them and also his brain trying to protect him from the trauma of July.
The Vash that comes after Eriks is goofy and childlike, I believe he has gone quite mad, but still forces a mask onto himself, in conflict not only with his fragmented mind, but also his moralities. If S1 Vash says he can't help himself, his body reacts before he can to protect others, then '98 Vash does it knowingly. He takes the full abuse of gunfire knowing full well what he is getting himself into.
I think he finds freedom and relief in letting the craziness out a bit, the way he plays with children and interacts with the bad guys, he embraces the madness, but not enough to show his true self because he doesn't even fully know what that is.
Trimax Vash is quite similar to '98 Vash, but goes through another big development (Warning: some spoilers for Tirimax, duh):
It is very gradual the change from one version to another here, but the biggest difference happens when he regains the knowledge of what happened in July and Kni's return. It will probably be a Creature Vash moment where his Plant powers go berserk again, unlocking even more of his latent abilities he is not aware of and doesn't know how to control. So far he has been very human, since the beginning he has had this idea of himself being useless as a Plant, he has been under the impression that he doesn't have any powers and that he only has human needs (food, water, sleep). But his gunmanship alone won't be enough to stop Kni, he has to embrace his Plant side, he has to learn to control it. And once he starts getting the hang of it, he is able to save even more people than he would have before.
Trimax Vash, especially towards the end is a lot more confident, he has a better understanding of his morality and he has added tools to fulfill it. He still is a pacifist, he actively chooses to be good, he always has, but the motivation and doubt surrounding it has shifted a bit over time
The version of Vash that we have at the very end of Trimax in a way circles back to the Vash before July and Wolfwood, an earlier, slightly more sincere version of Vash without loosing the lessons learned from the past. The mask he has worn for so long falls away and he can feel genuine happiness because he is no longer driven by guilt, he has atoned in his mind.
Pre-canon Vash:
We know very little about Vash's past. Sure, we see a little bit of his childhood on the ship with Rem and Kni, we see glimpses of him with the crew on Home and we saw the incident where he activated his Angel Arm for the first time and lost his left arm due to it. But after that it's a whole lot of nothing. He is a very tragic character since basically day one, from a very young age he has been thought to pretend to be human in front of those who don't know his nature. A mask has been forced onto that 1 year old child. Not to mention the Great Fall and the guilt from that's pushing him forward and remaining his central force for the next 150 years.
I think after he became a drifter he learned to be even more human, he perfected his mask and lived as a human because leaving out the interactions with the Plants who needed his help, he only knew the human ways, his sisters were in a tank, their true nature locked away in a higher dimension anyway, the only other being like him on the whole planet is Kni and he hasn't seen him since he declared that in 100 years he will eradicate humanity, the very thing Vash loved so much.
Drifter Vash is probably the sanest version of him, confined to a routine of constantly moving on. But I also think that's the most naive and innocent version of him. In July WW comments that Vash freezes up as soon as a human is put in front of him and I think that's quite a defining characteristic of him in this period. A very stubborn outlook to life where he feels the need to save everybody and he would sacrifice himself for that rather than pick up arms to even get himself out of a sticky situation. He only shoots to save others, but not himself because he thinks he is expendable.
He lives in denial for the next 100 or so years following losing his arm with the same mindset of feeling like he needs to save everybody he can, even making promises he can't keep (like in the case of Rollo). When the Plant robberies start and probably even before that Vash realizes that Kni's plan has been set into motion and it will probably only make his guilt worse, knowing that he will have to go after Kni and save him too, otherwise his beloved humanity will pay the price for his inaction. And that's the start of his mental downfall leading into Tristamp S1. And perhaps there are other attributing factors...
This concludes my speech on the topic. I love this character and the intricacies of it and while everybody has a right to their own opinion, this is my understanding of it and I do truly hope that Trigun Stampede will continue exploring Vash's character and how trauma changes a person.
Feel free to expand on these ideas! I'm happy to discuss all of this in the notes or in my inbox :)
My fic Tempest Wind takes place before the events of Tristamp and this long, yet brief character analysis might help people understand the character arc of Vash in my story.
Tempest Wind is a 18+ Vash x F!Reader fic with some spice, some gore, a bit of action and a lot of fluff, for added flavor there's a sprinkle of angst too ofc.
Until I have finished the whole story, feel free to indulge in the published DEMO chapters:
Perfect Morning - domestic fluff, intimacy, mild smuttiness, shy Vash
Festivities - delusional bliss on an unfamiliar planet with weird traditions, ice skating and sweet Vash
Burn - basically smuttiness with little actual plot
Keep an eye out for a new demo chapter coming withing the next two weeks. It's gonna be Vash trying to seduce the reader before they get together!

His Mama’s Boy
More Mama AJ Shaw being a good mama for her baby Davey! She’s mine now, Erik 1.5k words
Crying in the nursery, also audible over the baby monitor, jolted AJ out of her sleep. She took a deep breath as she woke up and slipped out of bed. Gabe stirred, but didn’t wake. Creeping quietly, AJ slid his bathrobe on over her pajamas from where it had been discarded on the armchair in the corner of the master bedroom and went to the baby’s room.
She opened the robe to feed David, sitting in the rocking chair and pushing it gently with the ball of her foot.
“It’s okay, Davey baby,” she whispered. “Mama’s here. Mama’s got you.” She bounced him lightly, soothing the crying, while she fed him.
In the past several months since he’d been born, his eyes had cleared up and become obviously the same color as Gabe’s. Vibrant, deep green. In all honesty, apart from having AJ’s darker hair, Davey looked a lot like Gabe already. Including his wider nose.
AJ hummed while her son fed, running the backs of her fingers down his soft cheeks, kissing his forehead.
Once he was done, she draped a burp cloth over her shoulder and adjusted him before patting at his back, still humming softly to herself. Sleep clung to her eyelids and occasionally she paused to yawn, but the warmth of her baby boy in her arms was always enough to keep her awake.
He seemed to calm down a little after being fed and burped, but was still fussy and squirmy.
Instead of simply humming, AJ sang the lullaby her mother used to sing to her as a kid. Soft enough to not wake Gabe, but loud enough for Davey to hear her. She held him close, making sure his ear was close to her heartbeat to soothe him as she kept gently bouncing him and rocking the chair. His wriggling slowed and stopped as he fell back to sleep. AJ made sure he was bundled nice and warm before putting him back in his crib. She smoothed his wisps of thick, dark hair off his forehead and kissed it.
“Sleep well, Davey,” she whispered. “Daddy will see you in a couple hours when it’s his turn to give you a bottle.” She reached for his pacifier and wiggled it against his mouth. He opened it immediately and let her slide it in, sucking on it once it was secure.
Smiling gently, she straightened up and went back to the master bedroom, slipping out of Gabe’s robe and putting it back on the armchair. She circled the bed and climbed back in as gently as she could so she wouldn’t wake her mate.
The second she was settled, Gabe rolled over and wrapped an arm around her. He pulled her across the mattress until she was snuggled up close to him. “Hi,” he whispered.
“Hi,” she replied.
“Davey okay?”
“Mmhmm.”
“He eat good?”
“He ate well, yes.”
“Heard you singing on the baby monitor.”
“It calms him down when he’s fussy. He doesn’t get fussy often, but when he does singing soothes him.”
Gabe hummed and buried his face in her neck and shoulder. “Why do you always take my robe with you when yours is right there?”
AJ nuzzled her nose into his soft hair. “His Core won’t activate for a long time, but he’s still a wolf. I want to make sure he knows both our scents together. So that he knows the smell of home. Of his Mama and Papa who love him and want to keep him safe.” She took a deep breath. “My dad was an alpha too. He didn’t get as much time at home as he wanted. If that happens to us, I just wanna make sure he knows you too since he’d be spending more time with me.”
Gabe grunted. “I’ll make time for both of you so he never sees me as absent. I love you both and I want to spend as much time with you and Davey as I possibly can.”
“I know, Gabe. And I hope it works out like that. I want to have you around as often as I can too.” She kissed his head. “I kinda like you and wanna keep you.”
He chuckled and kissed her collarbone. “You’re the best mate a man could ask for, AJ.”
“And you’re probably the only man who believes that,” she replied. “I cannot imagine any other man in this world, shifter or not, would wanna be my mate. My claws and teeth are too sharp for most of them.”
Gabe “Hmph”ed. “They’re all blind and stupid then. But I’m glad I got to be the lucky wolf.” He sighed. “Go back to sleep, baby. I’ll wake up next time Davey needs to be fed.”
AJ snuggled closer to him and closed her eyes with a sigh. Usually when she fell asleep, she’d found she preferred not to be touched, but she was so tired that Gabe’s steady warmth and firmness comforted her right into sleep. She took a deep breath and sighed long and slow as unconsciousness claimed her.
The smell of pancakes woke AJ up the next morning. downstairs, she could hear Gabe’s version of baby-talk. Which was essentially just him talking to Davey as though he was a full-grown person who understood everything Gabe was saying. “—told Marie a hundred times that I’m a grown man who’s older than she is by a good year but she still lectures me like she’s my mother. As if my own mother doesn’t lecture me enough,” he was saying. AJ grinned and got out of bed. Her purple bathrobe with its white polkadots was missing from it’s usual pile on the floor. Confused, she slid out of bed and went downstairs.
Gabe was standing in front of the griddle with Davey in a table-top bouncing bed off to the side on the counter. Gabe had put their son in a black onesie with Mama’s Boy in bold letters on the front and a pair of baby jeans.
Gabe had AJ’s bathrobe draped over his shoulders like a cape, but was otherwise in a Superman T-shirt and jeans. Apart from the blond hair, he fit the Superman build ridiculously well.
“Gabe, honey?” AJ asked.
“Yeah?”
AJ wrapped her arms around her mate from behind. “Why are there socks on Davey’s hands?”
Gabe fidgeted with the spatula in his hands. “I, uh… apparently didn’t swaddle him tight enough after I got up to feed him,” he said. “When I got up this morning he had a little scratch on his face where he’d scratched himself in his sleep. So I put socks on his hands to make sure he wouldn’t do it again while I made breakfast.”
AJ chuckled. “Fair enough,” she said. “So… why are you wearing my bathrobe?”
He shrugged. “So Davey knows both of our scents together or whatever sweet thing you said last night.”
That made AJ laugh. “You’re cute,” she said.
Letting him go, she went over to Davey so Gabe could focus on flipping the pancakes.
“Good morning, my sweet baby boy,” she greeted, kissing Davey’s forehead. He was busy realizing he had a tongue that could feel his lips but his eyes watched her intensely. She touched the pad of her thumb to the tiny, angry red scratch on his face. Closing her eyes, she focused on her magic.
There was a pulse of magic and the scratch on David’s face disappeared.
Gabe twisted to stare at her. “Since when do you know how to heal?”
She brushed her short hair out of her face. “Alpha’s daughter, remember? I took a couple healing classes when I was, like, twenty in order to better serve my pack; at the, uh, behest of my dad. And now I can use it to serve my mate, his pack, and my precious baby boy.” On those last three words, she kissed the spot on David’s face that had been scratched and brushed the tip of her nose back and forth across the tip of her son’s.”
Davey smiled.
AJ gasped quietly.
“What is it?”
“Gabe, he smiled at me.”
Gabe grinned. “Did he now? Good. I’ve been telling him he better smile at you first.” He took the pancakes off the griddle, unplugged it, and stepped over to wrap an arm around AJ’s waist. “Because his Mama works so hard to make sure her boy is happy and healthy so she should get the first smile.” He pressed a kiss to AJ’s temple. “Because his mama is the best mama a little wolf pup like him could ever ask for.”
AJ laughed and leaned against Gabe while watching Davey bob up and down in his bouncer. His big eyes flicked between both of his parents while he continued to explore the discovery of his tongue against his lips.
“Davey, has your dad been telling you to smile for me?” AJ asked with a big, dopey happy smile on her face.
Their son smiled again, this time spluttering a little in what almost sounded like laughter.
Gabe chuckled. “I think I picked the right onesie for him. He is definitely his Mama’s boy.”

Me estoy muriendo ¿Por qué no me ves?

Ranking The Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss Songs (because I can)
Tumblr media
Before I even start I’ll say right off the bat that HH has much stronger and rememberable/catchier songs than HB (at least to me).
Like, outside of House of Asmodeus (and Moxxie and Millie’s song that’s mixed into it), Cotton Candy, & Stolas’ song to Via in - I think - the Loo Loo Land episode I can’t even think about any of the other HB songs off the top of my head. And I only really remember Stolas’ song technically, but really I don’t remember the beat or the lyrics or anything, I just remember the visuals and that it was sung like a lullaby. Show wise I do like HB more than HH though.
I’ll say this too, I don’t like how a lot of HH’s songs lead in. The entrances just feel very fucking jarring to me sometimes.
ALSO, I’m only ranking series songs for now, anything released outside of the explicit show canons means nothing to me in this ranking. I’ll include Pilot songs though. Ha, never mind I ended up doing some of the out of show songs too.
Tumblr media
TOP FIVE
Hell is Forever: Has a nice snappy entrance and it makes sense, loved it. I sing this one all the damn time and I know it word for word at this point I can’t even lie. Alex Brightman, enough said (though I do like him as Fizz more than as Adam).
House of Asmodeus: Best HB song in my opinion, but it looses points because there’s not actually an end to the song. I sing this one frequently. Plus, there’s a snappy entrance.
I’ll count Moxie’s song to Millie as a part of this song as well, and while I wouldn’t rate it separately in my top five (it’d probably be right above More Than Anything) as a part of House of Asmodeus I like the contrast 👍🏾. This is just such a sweet song it makes me smile every time I hear it.
Respectless: Another song with a jarring and snappy entrance and I love it. Velvette’s character is showcased well here, and this is really the last we get of her characterization in season one. I love the argument aspect of this song and Velvette’s “Ugh” too, it’s just such an expressive sound of disgust. Lilli Cooper’s voice is just great. I sing this one (both parts) frequently too.
I’m Always Chasing Rainbows: This shit was too good, what the fuck? I get lost in this song it’s so lovely to listen to. It’s just so melodic and whimsical and beautiful.🩷
Stayed Gone: I enjoy Vox’s part the most (mainly from a character standpoint) but Alastor caps the shit off wonderfully and brings a sense of menace that I just don’t tend to feel from his character throughout a lot of the show (outside of when he made Husk cower on the floor of course). Alastor’s laugh at the end is also my favorite of his and his most chilling to me. I sing this one relatively frequently compared to the ones below it but still a good bit less than the others above it.
_
SIX-FORTY FIVE(?)
You Didn’t Know: Especially love Lute’s first part that leads into her and Adam singing together (ie: “Did you forget that Hell is forever?”) because Jessica Vosk ate that, and Emily and Charlie’s lil duet together. The way the song drops off after Vaggie’s revealed to be a former Exorcist also reminds me of the musical cue in POTO when Christine rips Erik’s mask off during Don Juan Triumphant which I also enjoy. I sing this bitch (all parts) all the fucking time. I listen to this one more than I do Stayed Gone, but both songs are fairly even to me ranking wise.
Poison: I like the song from a technical standpoint but I don’t revisit it, I don’t even really think about revisiting it all that much actually. We all know this song does a good job of conveying story no matter how you personally feel about it so I don’t have much to say. Though I will say that I like how this song sounds far more than I like how Addict sounds. Honestly if it wasn’t for the subject matter this song would be right below Crooked, I can’t even lie; like, forget the lyrics and visuals for a second, I just don’t like the music very much.
Finale: The Vees’ part is specifically why this song is placed where it is, and the animation that accompanies the song as a whole as well. Outside of that though while I think Lucifer’s part where he’s holding his hand out for Charlie is sweet and Alastor’s solo part is interesting, musically it’s just not doing very much for me so….yeah. I actually like this song a bit more than Poison, but Poison’s thematic relevance is just greater. Overall the song’s a nice callback and cute enough. Also, if all the Vees had gotten to sing I would’ve ranked this higher.
"Crashin' a Muthaf***n' Wedding" by “Until Further Notice” - Wrath’s #1 “Fuck You Up” Hits: I think this song is better than it has any right to fucking be, but I love it. It just sounds good and fits the atmosphere of Millie’s fight scene so well. Would un-ironically put into a playlist.
The Ballad Of Striker: It’s fun, what else is a woman to say? I’m a sucker for wild west themes and how much Striker hates the song is also a bonus. The song also reminds me of the Old Yeller theme song (ie: “Best doggone dog in the west”). Idk.
I.M.P Commercial Jingle: Apparently I’m also a sucker for a quick little song, but whatever.
Loser, Baby: Roughly the same as my reasoning for Poison, just that this song hits hard with the mixed messaging and just isn’t as poignant at Poison is. I enjoy what the song is trying to say more than what the song seems like it’s saying when you actually listen to or read the lyrics, but it’s also just a fun song to sing along to (I do revisit it more than Poison though). Plus Keith David; what else is there to say after that?
More Than Anything: One of those I felt didn’t lead in smoothly so it felt awkward at the start. The song itself is sweet though and sounds great as it keeps going. Jeremy Jordan is always a pleasure to hear also.
Inside Of Every Demon is a Rainbow: Is fun. Definitely gives Phineas and Ferb vibes to me. I like it. This and Happy Day In Hell are actually mostly at even ranks to me.
Happy Day In Hell: The song’s cute but I hardly think about it, let alone give it multiple listens. The comedic “please tell me she’s not singing again” type part at the beginning was funny too, now that I’m listening to it again. Erika Henningsen (I believe) is singing though don’t get me wrong and I love the change from minutes 1:47 to 2:16.
Oh Millie: I think this one’s just adorable and I love Mox and Mill so *shrugs*. No but seriously even though the pilot isn’t canon anymore this song still captured their relationship nicely.
Till The Day We Die: I like how Moxxie and Millie’s voices mix here, they both sound great, but I don’t love the lyrics or the delivery on some words.
Crooked: I don’t like how some of the lines are sung (I do like most of the song though) but the song itself is far too precious for me to put it any lower than this. Ozzie and Fizz are just too sweet.
Klown Bitch: Sounds like an actual pop song you’d hear on the radio, catchy, and fun so it gets hella points.
Cotton Candy: It’s a fun song to listen back to even if I don’t take much from it otherwise. I think it showcases Beelzebub being the manifestation of Gluttony in a creative way with her being an attentive party host who keeps reminding/encouraging her guests to indulge and drink and eat more and more and to keep having fun.
More Than Anything (Reprise): The song sounds beautiful but I feel like Charlie and Vaggie (the main pairing/ship) deserved a love song that wasn’t just a reprise of the song Charlie sang with her father, and just a longer song in general. I digress though, the song is fine.
Ready For This: I like a good march, but other than that I don’t have very strong feelings about this song. I technically like how supportive Alastor is here, but him actually giving a shit about Charlie is something that feels so forced to me that it doesn’t enhance the song for me that much. Also, I know it’s just the genre of music being the same but this song really reminds me of Star Spangled Man With A Plan from Captain America: The First Avenger.
Out For Love: I’ll say this, it is catchy. I just don’t care about it very much.
Inside Of Every Demon is a Lost Cause: I don’t dislike this song but I like so many other songs more so it kind of gets tossed to the side. I like the execution and delivery though.
You Got The Power: Some of y’all already know what this song will remind me of (The Touch by Stan Bush from Transformers the movie), but either way it’s pretty good.
Monster’s Ball: I’ll be honest I hadn’t even listened to this song until I started making this list, but it’s nice.
Loo Loo Land: I’m so sorry, this song is just so funny to me. Plus Alex Brightman.
Addict: Um….I disliked this way more than I expected to. It’s the music style. Characterization wise I like it I guess, though it doesn’t all translate over to the Amazon series (mostly with Cherri).
Whatever it Takes: I like this song in theory. This song just…starts though, no prep, which I didn’t like, and while the voices involved sound wonderful and the story the song is presenting is useful the song itself is pretty ‘meh’ and doesn’t flow pleasantly to me. I’m sorry. I do like the message though and the “I’ll be your keeper/ I’ll be your armor” lines that Vaggie and Carmine sung back to back were good as hell.
It Starts With Sorry: The song doesn’t do anything for me outside of how it moves the storyline along. Sir Pentious is an absolute drama queen and I love him for that though.
Regular Joe: This is Millie’s first solo song so I hate to put it this low but I just don’t feel very strongly about it. The singing is lovely though.
Look At This: It’s a fun song so I won’t put it too low, but it’s not very catchy and I don’t listen to it more than I have to.
Vacay to Bonetown: Actually a surprisingly nice and chill song considering the subject matter. Pleasant on the ear musically.
2 Minutes Notice: The story is fine but the song just doesn’t do anything for me. However, I do like the triumphant horns that play at the end, so there’s that.
Welcome To Heaven: Shit. Just about forgot about this one entirely. I think that says enough, yeah? It’s fine, I simply just don’t care about it. Everyone sounds good though and Sera singing “I’m sorry you can’t stay” was beautiful and in the context of her character a very sweetly sinister and backhanded thing for her to say that really fits.
Juggling Iz Cool: It’s got some nice rhymes. Fun.
Hell’s Greatest Dad: It’s okay, I think the story it’s supposed to be conveying is stupid though (and just not well set up). When I first watched it I thought Alastor was posturing and pretending to be “like a father” and feeling paternal towards Charlie because he has a superiority complex and wanted to “best” Lucifer or something, and it took until other people mentioned it for me to realize that Alastor’s feelings were actually supposed to be sincere, leading up to this song that is not apparent though, so yeah.
“Gilded Jail” (Stolas’ Song | s2ep1): It’s fine. I like it a little more than You Will Be Okay.
You Will Be Okay (Stolas’ song to Via): Similar vibes to More Than Anything because Medrano loves father daughter pairings. It’s cute but I’m not attached to it and I certainly hadn’t listened to it a second time since watching the episode until I was making this list.
“Teacher Song”: It’s got a nice lil rhyming scheme but that’s pretty much it.
Moxxie’s Bad Trip song: Thoroughly enjoy the Phantom of the Opera-esq visuals and musical nods but that’s largely it. Everything else about the song is just okay. Also the cussing and sex jokes are so excessive it takes away from the song and makes it far less enjoyable (for me at least). Honestly the song just makes me cringe so hard. The story’s nice though.
Just Look My Way: I guess the story it’s telling is nice, but I don’t really feel any type of way about it in any direction. Pretty basic, but it is filled with plenty of yearning.
C.H.E.R.U.B Jingle: It’s fine.
Sweet Victory: Also fine, and just as fast as the Cherub Jingle just less catchy. Striker sounds alright. This song does showcase how much off an asshole he is well.
Everybody Look At Me: It’s annoying (and it’s supposed to be) but I still don’t like it.
Chaz Time: I really dislike this song so...
All in all, I’m glad there’s been so many songs written that I can make such a long list ranking them like this. So thanks to everyone who made the music for both shows even if I didn’t like all of it.

🧸 Erik Destler!
I definitely headcanon Erik as a regressor, but I have enjoyed making content about him as a flip as well!
Three Headcanons:
1- doesn't wear his mask when he's regressed: either he feels ok because he's alone or he wears a sheet or a bag on days where he feels anxious, because that's what he wore as a child and it feels better than the hard porcelain of the mask
2- an absolute swimming fiend, he loves to go into the underground pools and rivers and splash and dive!
3- sings to himself to regulate his emotions: whether he's sad or angry or anxious, he has little lullabies like the music box version of Masquerade that help to calm him down.
send me a 🧸 and a character and I’ll give you three random agere headcanons I’m working through December requests! <3
