The second piece after the Hall of Gods is complete! I'll be honest, I mostly used this as colour theory practice but the story was in my mind near constantly so without further ado...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Background that only some of you care about but I promised to provide after the Hall of Gods:
Eret doesn't remember Foolish- doesn't recognize the man who tells stories of their past and doesn't flinch away from an alabaster gaze. To be fair, Eret hardly recognizes themself anymore.
They've been a lot of things as far as they /can/ recall: a soldier, a traitor, a king-- but now they're simply a person. The museum curator of the SMP and all it's history. It's how she had found the statues that now round the large central chamber of their museum. She recognizes them as the totem's work now, having seen so much of it as of late. Even so, he can't be quiet sure they see the resemblance between the marble figure they had created and themself (even if something in the back of their mind screamed to remember). Eret didn't remember being a god. She wasn't even sure she would have wanted to be one.
For now though being a person, just "Eret", was good enough for them.
Foolish recognized Eret on sight, heart and soul reaching out to their oldest companion, the one he had feared he lost to him. True, they had changed quite a bit but the god would know them anywhere.
He doesn't mind the changes and he takes their apparent amnesia in stride. Memory is a fickle thing, especially for those who lived as long as they have.
He will be honest in saying that his sculptural depiction has been a bit grandiose when compared to it's inspiration but that was how he had always seen her and in their absence that mental image had only solidified. As a god, Eret had always been larger than life. Radiant and unapologetic in a way she had lost somewhere during their time apart.
Perhaps that was why when they sketched them he couldn't bring himself to add the glasses they used to hide their eyes. Perhaps that was why his art strayed back to the time of lavish outfits and a halo of stars.
And if the changes made his model pause, brow scrunched up as if trying to recall something just out of reach, he didn't mention it.
If certain pieces of art he created prompted familiar quips and a closeness he had missed for far too long, then it was worth drawing from memory...

For Past c!Eret: Wither Roses & Void
For Present c!Eret: A Map & Quill, the Sky and a Clock
For present c!Foolish: A Pickaxe, Plants and a Totem

Haha I totally didn’t forgor that I have (checks journal and winces) four entire panels of the Rose animatic finished but not colored. And have for months. Anyway, symbolism essay below the cut:
(What is safe ain’t the same as what is good)
This line exemplifies the fallacy of the Foundation, where in their effort to keep the world safe, heinous acts are committed. The scene depicts Rosalind being destroyed so the Foundation can gauge how dangerous Tubbo is and thus guard against them. Though coerced, Tubbo chooses their safety over their perception of what is the good moral decision.
Rosalind also proves the inverse; what is good may not be safe. Though abundantly flawed in her perception, she initially joined the Foundation believing she would be serving humanity, and in the end only endangered herself. Her leg is severed, showing how she could have fully escaped on her own had she not tried to rescue Tommy and Tubbo. Again her efforts to be good doom her. Rosalind is depicted pleading with Tubbo, trying to reach out for help that they refuse to offer, severing her arm. Tubbo refuses to look at what they are doing to her, just like how Rosalind initially refused to believe her initial impression of the Foundation as a benevolent institution was flawed.
Interestingly, in the choice between Tubbos’ head being cut off and Rosalind being murdered, neither outcome leads to death. The Foundation is sure that decapitation will not kill Tubbo, and despite their guilt Tubbo knows Collecting Rosalind into the Hive means she is still alive. There is only the illusion of death on both sides, which the Foundation endeavors to maintain so that the workers and anomalies both believe the other is a lethal threat. It is essential that each fears the other so that the oppressive system is maintained.
(so lay compress to the aching)
For all the last stanza discussed love as sacrifice, this panel emphasizes that love is also solace. It depicts Tommy and Tubbo comforting each other in the direct aftermath of Rosalind’s Collection, though with Tommy still hesitating to fully embrace Tubbo. Frequently it is compassion for each other’s pain that teaches Tommy and Tubbo compassion for themselves. Only for their love for each other do they survive the Foundation.
Sprawled across the floor in Red and honey lay drawings of the things they yearn for. For Tubbo, it’s the flowers of the home they were torn from. For Tommy, it is the stars he can barely remember and the Collector he feels abandoned by. It’s also notably the first hint of Philza’s true form, though it wasn’t yet revealed that Philza was a dragon. These representations of the things they long for, be it freedom or support, are what fuel their determination to persist. And, of course, each other. It is love that keeps them going, for better or worse.

It has been literal months but the Hall of Gods is finally finished! My take on the old gods of the SMP~
The statues from left to right:
Mumza “Lady Death”, Foolish “The Undying”, Eret “The Betrayer”, Technoblade “The Blood God”, and XD “The Admin”
Background no one really cares about but I've thought way too much about:
So the basic idea is that Foolish made the statues-- Literally every design is recognisable, even without colour, from behind because either they haven't changed in millennia (XD and Mumza) or Foolish knew what they looked like from more recent memory, (Technoblade and himself).
Eret's statue is the most unrecognizable and also the most "godly". This is because not only had Foolish not seen her in ages after she disappeared, but he also put them on a sort of mental pedestal in their absence. The statues were not only a side project to keep Foolish occupied in his solitude but also a way to memorialize his dearest friend who had, from his point off view, vanished without a trace.
When the statues were done (or nearly so as he never finished crafting his own likeness) , he did what he does with all his projects, he abandoned them to move on to the next and they were left behind only for Eret to later collect them and bring them back to her museum as a relic of times long past.
Eret might not have aged since they've seen each other but he changed his entire being multiple times since their memory loss. She's been a soldier, a king, a rebel, and a museum curator all without knowing where she came from or even that they are a god and all those changes manifest in human ways: hair, clothes, accessories, even the way in which one stands.
Without their memory, no one could blame Eret for not recognizing themselves when depicted with such confidence and divinity, free from the duty of running a kingdom of the guilt of betraying her friends. It would take days, if not months, of passing the statues where they now stand in the guilded hall for the curator to even begin to make the connection and even then, they couldn't be completely sure until Foolish, the sculptor himself, confirmed their suspicions; which is a double edged sword in and of itself seeing as she still isn't sure that the Undying God is correctly remembering who they are in the first place..

I absolutely love the lore that Eret and Foolish hinted at, so I drew a little bit of it! ❤ I'm a sucker for a mysterious backstory, particularly one that involves weird powers or missing memories! (at least I'm predictable with the characters I latch on to 😂)
also...the egg is back, huh?...yikes...

Day 15: Eternal duo my beloved
Foosh and Eret! I really like the improvement. The colour palette is perfect for shading and lighting. Also I love that they’re not stiff and have a bit more life in them.
