I just realized if Houji is one of the few investigators who don't really see ghouls as mindless monsters then Uta is one of the few ghouls who don't really see investigators as mindless monsters. He lost his whole family (assuming it's because of CCG) yet he was friendly and fascinated with investigators, namely Take, Suzuya and the Quinx Squad. Like he likes chatting with them and he is also polite
(Argghhh I'm reminded about Houji's apologize to Tatara. Okay moving on)
Uta even made the investigators masks (and masks based on their faces lmao). He probably ran into Helter Skelter and excitedly told Itori and Renji this is the first time he made masks for investigators and the two are just... "you did what?"
He is just always curious and interested in everyone everything it's cute

how would your favourite TG characters spend their Friday night?
(btw - well done on getting your work done. I haven't touched my coursework since Tuesday 😬)
(i was unnaturally motivated this week idk why 🧎 good luck with your coursework oomfie 🫶)
on a friday night, the quinx squad is having a family board game or movie night, courtesy of haise. this is a weekly routine for them, and haise has made a bunch of homemade snacks. juuzou and hanbee are frequent guests, and sometimes akira or arima make an appearance. akira only comes if they’re doing game night and gets really competitive about it. money wagers are no longer allowed because of her.
urie, however, is a rare participant in these events. he’s usually training at this time, or he’s quietly in his room painting. when he does get dragged in, he kicks everyone’s ass in monopoly.
saiko loves family night and she loves haise’s snacks, but the highlight for her is when she can retreat to her room and play video games until the sun comes up. she only takes a break to make 4am instant ramen.
pre-ghoulified takizawa likes going to get drinks with his co-workers on friday nights and decompress. not a fan of the club, he prefers going to a chill bar so he can have conversations. get him a little too drunk and he’ll start ranting about akira and juuzou.
post-ghoulified takizawa also hangs out near the bars, but he’s looking for food. drunk people are slow and h uncoordinated, so they’re easy to take down. he makes a game out of it to distract himself from reminiscing about the good times when he was human and could hang out with his buddies instead of living in the shadows.
kaneki likes to stay in and curl up with a book and a nice warm coffee. do not ask him to go out, he is clearly busy reading takatsuki sen’s latest work.
nishiki works his ass off all week so he can have fun on friday nights. he goes out with “the boys” from college almost every friday. he tells himself he’s just keeping his human image up by doing normal human things, but he kinda secretly has fun. if he doesn’t do this, he has a night in with kimi with (much to nishiki’s chagrin) takeout and a movie.
touka is a serious student, but if there’s one thing she can’t say no to, it’s yoriko, who shows up unannounced at her apartment with a rented film and a bag full of snacks. they have movie nights, which usually ends up as an accidental sleepover. touka pretends to be annoyed when yoriko shows up, but really, she looks forward to it every week.
post-time skip touka probably spends her friday nights working, either doing inventory or deep cleaning or crunching numbers at :re. since she’s cut ties with yoriko, kaneki has disappeared, and hinami has gone to aogiri, she feels very lonely. though she won’t admit that, yomo and nishiki know this, so they also spend their friday nights in :re after it closes. sometimes they do something bro-y like, play cards, sometimes they’re more serious and exchange information. touka appreciates the company.

Uta heard your stifled sobs the moment he unlocked the front door.
He sets his bag down by the door and toes off his shoes in exchange for slippers. He puts them neatly beside yours and wanders his way through your apartment, peeking his head inside your kitchen, bathroom, and guest bedroom in search of you.
He finds you in the corner of your bedroom, wrapped in the blanket he gifted you for your birthday, and shaking silently.
He knew this cry.
It was the cry that meant that you just couldn’t stop, that you were trying your hardest not to break down.
What had happened?
He settles down next to you, tugging the blanket from around your face and announcing his presence.
“It’s me.” He says quietly, and immediately, you’re turning and throwing yourself into his arms, your own going around his waist and burying your face in the crook of his neck.
Uta doesn’t ask, doesn’t say anything really, as he wraps his arms around you and pulls you close, nosing your hair and inhaling. You smelled absolutely delightful—like blood and muscle and tissue and food.
Hey, he was a ghoul.
He couldn’t help it.
It wasn’t like he was going to eat you.
No, no, no, he cared about you too much for that.
So he still doesn’t say anything, not a word, only offering what he hoped was a comforting presence.
Until…
“They’re all dead.” You rasp, and he stills where he had been rocking you gently back and forth.
“Your squad?” He asks and feels you nod.
That’s right.
Your squad.
You were so kind and empathetic toward ghouls that he usually forgot that you were an esteemed member of the CCG. A First Class Investigator at the young age of twenty-seven. You were good at your job, often tasked with training the next generation of ghoul investigators.
And so you were given a squad to look after and train, much like the Quinx squad that Kaneki was over when he was Sasaki Haise.
“Can I ask how?” He asked, and you shivered,
“Aogiri Tree. It should have been a quick hit. In and out. But an SS rank showed up. They didn’t stand a chance. And I—I couldn’t get there fast enough.” You whimper, and he pulls back to look at you in the face. Your eyes are red-rimmed and puffy, tears hot and sticky streaking your cheeks, your bottom lip quivers, and he feels his twisted heart ache.
“Don’t do that to yourself. You had other things to worry about.” He tries, and you shake your head vehemently.
“They were my responsibility! And I still haven’t given these to their families yet!” You shove folded papers at his chest and dissolve into another bout of tears.
He takes a look, and his eyes widen marginally.
Last testaments.
He had heard about these from you before. All CCG investigators were required to write them before missions such as yours. Especially big ones that always resulted in large amounts of casualties. And it looks like your squad’s had been entrusted to you.
How twisted. How inhumane. How cruel.
Uta opened one and found himself stopping, almost not comprehending the words on the page.
“I’M SCARED.
I DON’T WANT TO DIE.”
That was it. Two sentences. They were written in bold kanji, almost tearing the paper in half with how harsh the strokes were. It didn’t even have a name signed at the bottom.
“That was Yū. They were twenty-one.” You croak, and he looks at you. You are avoiding his gaze.
“Isn’t it funny?” You suddenly say, your voice dark, and he narrows his eyes slightly, “Their name is Yū. Written with the kanji for brave. And yet… they were scared to die.” You say and scrub a hand down your face, getting to your feet and leaving him behind as you meander your way to the kitchen.
You had been looking at the shaky words with dead eyes.
No emotion. Just… Dead. Like you had cried out all the tears you had.
He hated that expression. He doesn’t want to see it on your face. He wants you to be happy and loving like you usually were. This expression meant the world was getting to you, sucking the life out of your soul.
And he didn’t want that.
But he didn’t know how to make it better.

(for the purposes of the invisible timeline in my brain, haise and kaneki are separate characters!)
haise:
leader of V’s second gen set of vtubers, The Quinxes, similar to how arima leads The Quinques (Squad 0)
the most popular of The Quinques that wasn't arima, so V decided to try and give him his own spinoff group to try and wring out some extra cash.
they have yet to have a good turnout.
haise still has other values though; he doubles as a TA for the quinxes, who are all college students at a V-run university. his reports on the place regarding them and the university itself are used by V to keep tabs on certain individuals.
his ignorance and earnestness are exploited, much to arima's disdain (but what can he do about it, right?), but it is simultaneously a thorn in V's side, as he shows mercy even to people who hurt him. a double-edged sword.
he doesn't watch eto's streams; the way she so easily advocates for violence against people she doesn't personally know unsettles him
mutsuki
similar backstory as canon, trying desperately to hide it
a member of V, in exchange for the truth about the death of his family not condemning him. was selected for the quinx project based on his demeanor and someone wanted to see what this new "representation" fad was all about.
he has the lowest viewership/subscribers of the quinxes, but he technically makes the bar in regards to numbers. plus, the other quinxes get along with him, and haise defends him to the death so he is allowed to stay
V has been trying to get him into their assassin department. he hasn't accepted or refused, but the bar for viewers is getting higher...
urie
art student with a minor in history
has a vtuber model, but he travels the most out of the quinxes and so becomes more of a vlogger instead. it's surprisingly popular, so V doesn't complain.
his dad died for one of V's underground wars. he swears vengeance on the mafia that got them killed. this is why V lets him travel around as much as they do; his revenge is easily manipulated.
does independent investigations in his spare time to try and locate his father's killer. reports any information he finds via anonymous tips to the police, which are then cross-referenced with V's agents
uses his share of sub money and dono's in order to fund trips.
saiko
candy-aesthetic vtuber as a side gig when not slacking off in college. she reviews anime and plays video games, and part of it goes into funding her sub for her main mmo.
she's in school on a scholarship because her mother forced her to go to "finally make something of herself". saiko's not very happy about it, but at least she gets free room and board away from all that.
she likes vtubing, but she doesn't actually have control of her share of the money; that goes to her mother.

most popular of the quinxes for her energy and voice. it's gratifying but a little creepy to her.
shirazu
doesn't go to college, but hangs out in haise's office sometimes.

Still enjoying these a lot
How I feel about this character: "Okay you know what you're in time-out get on top of the fridge GET UP THERE."
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: I used to really like Mutsuki and Urie when I started :re but after finishing it and learning more about them there would be a lot of therapy needed to make that one work out. Still a very interesting dynamic! Shiraurie I've always liked and will continue to like, but that's about it, but I can and will ship all 3 at once. However for the most part it'd have to be pretty post-canon which... kind of doesn't work. Shirazu my beloved I miss you.
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character:
THE QUINX SQUAD AS A WHOLE they're a family your honor.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I like his brighter purple hair in the manga more than the dark shade of "purple" he has in the anime, (even if I draw him with darker hair frequently because it works better with the palette) and I don't like that it took Shirazu's death to make him shape up and be nice! Also I feel like realistically that event would've made his self destructive nature worse because all of his fears that motivate that attitude would've just been confirmed. So he would've been kinder yes, but he'd also overwork himself just as much if not more. But this is Tokyo Ghoul characters don't need to respond to traumatic events unless it'd affect Kaneki. (See: Shuu just not talking about the deaths of his entire family after he gets stabbed in the stomach.)
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Seeing Saiko and his mentorship of the 2nd generation Quinx. They didn't get enough screen time honestly and a lot of time I had to wonder "why were they even written in if you're not going to use them." I would've enjoyed Urie struggling to wrangle them and learning the ropes of being genuinely responsible for a group, because god knows Saiko is only feeding the chaos, and realizing Oh This Is Why Haise Looked Like He Had a Constant Headache Sometimes. Also see my complaints on his response to Shirazu's death and reaperneki above.
Favorite friendship for this character: The dichotomy between Kuki "I need to be entirely self sufficient and the strongest ever" Urie and Saiko "I don't want to do anything I didn't even sign up for this" Yonebayashi is everything. I wish they'd interacted more.
My crossover ship: Livio... maybe. I might edit this later.

haise anon here!!! and yes! there's quite a whole lot of other distinct personas of kaneki (at least around 7??) but i genuinely believe that haise and kaneki are two entirely different people (as it was very heavily implied in the manga abt how haise IS haise, theres also this conversation with haise and kid! ken about him telling haise to not 'erass' him. idk how much i could tell without spoiling omg...) there's also this one distinct persona of him that the fandom calls as the black reaper, its basically haise but with kaneki's memory, he's described as the darkest out of all his persona. but if we're talking abt haise in the beginning, he's generally a very kind person, he acts really motherly to the quinx squad and sees ccg as his family even though he knows it's just play pretend😞 (theres actually a chapter in the manga where all of his distinct personas talked to each other)

Synopsis:
Season 1: Two years have passed since the CCG's raid on Anteiku. Although the atmosphere in Tokyo has changed drastically due to the increased influence of the CCG, ghouls continue to pose a problem as they have begun taking caution, especially the terrorist organization Aogiri Tree, who acknowledge the CCG's growing threat to their existence.
The creation of a special team, known as the Quinx Squad, may provide the CCG with the push they need to exterminate Tokyo's unwanted residents. As humans who have undergone surgery in order to make use of the special abilities of ghouls, they participate in operations to eradicate the dangerous creatures. The leader of this group, Haise Sasaki, is a half-ghoul, half-human who has been trained by famed special class investigator, Kishou Arima. However, there's more to this young man than meets the eye, as unknown memories claw at his mind, slowly reminding him of the person he used to be.
Season 2: After the conclusion of the Tsukiyama Family Extermination Operation, the members of the Commission of Counter Ghouls (CCG) have grown exponentially in power and continue to pursue their goal of exterminating every ghoul in Japan. Having resigned from Quinx Squad, the now seemingly emotionless Haise Sasaki begins taking on more and more tasks from the CCG with no regard to the difficulty. Despite his vacant expressions, Ken Kaneki's memories are resurfacing in Haise, leaving him in a state of internal conflict. Meanwhile, his new coldhearted behavior is affecting the people around him. Quinx Squad are left in shambles, having to cope with the death of one of their members without the support of their former mentor.
Amidst this turmoil, both Quinx Squad and Haise must continue to fulfill their duties to the CCG, whether willingly or not. However, the presence of a mysterious group behind the CCG has been made known to Haise, and certain whispers of corruption have not gone unheard by the Quinx Squad as well.

Title: To Thank Them
It was over. Finally over, and he regrets every bit of it. The fact that he never gave anyone of them anything in return but worry. He lay in a pool of his own blood, ears ringing and vision blurring. He sees them. His brother, his lover, and best friend. All running to him. Just like always. They’d give life and limb for him. They were always there during his darkest moments. Times when he didn’t treat himself right. When seizures took their violent hold. When the world became too much. Now it was his turn. He would save them. Slowly he picked himself up, not turning to face his beloved family and friends but the enemy. His enemy.
“Damn Ghoul won’t stay down!” He faintly heard through the ringing in his ears.
All this time his brother and friends were thought to be like him. Ghouls. “Y-You got things wrong, Pal. I’m the only Ghoul! Leave my family and friends out of it.”
Rui outstretched a paw towards his brother and friends, signaling for them to halt.
“Damn right I won’t stay down. What will that get me? You think I’ll die without a fight?”
The least he can do is buy his brother and friends time to flee.
Rui was bloody from head to tail. Some his own and some from the investigators he had killed. He would end things here and now, regardless if it cost him his life. At this point he didn’t care. He just wanted his Brother, friends, and family to lead a peaceful life. They couldn’t do that with him still in the picture.
Rui removed his mask, letting it fall to the ground. Next went the cloak. If these people were going to kill him, they’d see his wounds in their entirety. No more hiding. This was Rui. This was Creature.
His thin frame caught the remaining Investigators off guard. The patches of missing fur. The old, discolored scars.
“You think we’re all the same? A ghoul’s a ghoul. We’re all bloodthirsty monsters.” Rui stated, “ever thought that some of us are victims? I wasn’t born ghoul. I was turned. Quite frankly, I shouldn’t even exist. You all know that as well as I do.” Rui scoffed.
Glances were exchanged between the investigators. However some were leery to lower their weapons.
“I want this needless bloodshed to end. You must want it to end too. It’s exhausting… just give me a chance to prove that I’m not some monster… I can be of value. That I can make up my shitty existence to them!” Rui spoke gesturing towards his family, his voice cracking with emotion. Maybe it was a suicide mission to think he could talk his way out of a fight. The Ghoul Investigators, The CCG, had taken out their fair share of ghouls. This probably was not the first time they’ve heard a similar, desperate plea for forgiveness.
Rui didn’t know what to say. He was absolutely speechless. Perhaps a little terrified too.
“You what?”
“You heard me, Creature. Or rather…Rui, is it?” Arima, or The White Reaper spoke, as he adjust his glasses.
All Rui could do was shake his head. Why ask that? In the middle of this, all this death and bloodshed.
“No. No, and no!” Rui started, taking a few steps back from Arima, “I refuse to be some puppet for you all to manipulate!”
“That’s a shame, Rui. You’d be a good asset. Teach the Quinx Squad a thing or two.” Arima continued.
“The who? The answer’s still NO!” He exaggerated the no, “I will not work for you.”
“The Quinx Squad are referred to as humans with built- in quinque. That way, we draw a distinction between them and normal one-eyed ghouls. Like yourself, Rui.”
“Please, stop calling me that. Don’t call me by my name. It’s weird. I’ve always been Creature to you people…and the answer is still no.”
“Just think on it. Maybe you’ll change your mind. See you around, Creature.”
“Think on it. Really?! You people have tried for years to kill me! Do you honestly think that I’m going to trust your word? Just join up with you like nothings happened? You are out of your damned mind, Arima!” Rui shouted, a growl laced his voice.
“I don’t expect you to just join up with us. I know you’ll have questions. You are the one who said that you wanted this bloodshed to end. To make your life meaningful. Or did I mishear you?” Arima retorted.
“Bastard.” Rui snarled.
Rui’s ears flicked back at the sound of Spyker’s voice. Spyker being Rui’s lover and support system.
“I think you should give it a go, Rui. I know it’s odd and out of the blue but I think that investigator sees some potential in you.” Spyker started, placing a paw on Rui’s shoulder.
“You’re joking, right?” Rui spoke, turning to face Spyker.
Spyker shook his head, a kind knowing smile crossed his face.
“I know you want this to end. I’m worried sick every time you leave the house. If working with them will secure your safety then I’m all for it.” Spyker spoke.

i'm always so upset that the whole found family thing was a lie and as soon as kaneki came back he dipped on the quinxes, but now i'm kinda thinking that was the whole point. like why would ishida just hand us what every other fandom has to elaborately come up with? from a narrative (and metaphorical?) point of view it makes sense, but from an emotional point of view i will still be flipping tables

Mutsuki for the ask game :3
My first impression: i didn't like any of the quinx squad on the first read i was insane im sorry everyone
My impression now: kinda on the border of how i feel about light vs misa honestly. i'm not a fan of his actions, but he has a special place in my heart. on the other hand, i can justify why he acted the way he did, and i can empathize with him. an interesting character that i love examining. (i may see a bit of the parts i don't like about myself in him...)
Favorite thing about that character: as i'll always say, i love when they're insane :3 my little insane pookie wookies :3 fr tho i love a good complex character that i can really analyze and pick apart
Least favorite thing: as a trans person, i'm not sure how i feel about how ishida characterized mutsuki's trans-ness. at quite a few points, it came off like ishida was making it seem like a mental illness rather than a legitimate identity maybe that's just me
Favorite line/scene: when mutsuki's kagune first appeared to comfort urie after he framed out at the auction raid. i think it says a lot about mutsuki's real personality underneath all the trauma induced insane
Favorite interaction that character has with another: any mutsurie interactions ! i love their relationship and i think they helped each other grow, it was really nice to see
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: i think i would want to see him with juuzou more, like outside of the training and ghoul fighting area. i want them to sit down and talk about how their horrific childhoods shaped them. juuzou grew a lot from in the gap between tg and re so i want to see him support mutsuki in his own growth, pass on his wisdom, generally be a mentor in more than a combat sense.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: im really bad at this, pass 🧎
A headcanon about that character: he's probably a good dancer, but like in a graceful way, probably would be good at contemporary or waltz
A song that reminds of that character: step on me by the cardigans
An unpopular opinion about that character: i actually think mutsuki's ending was good. i know people probably wanted to see him go back to the quinx and have a happy family, but actually i think it's an important step for mutsuki to step out on his own because he seems (to me) to have a lot of dependency problems.
