Yes, some antisemites look like white European neo-Nazis, but...

A lot of antisemites look like an atheist influencer who mocks Judaism as a "gotcha" to Christianity.

A lot of antisemites look like a lady at Church who talks about how much she "loves Jews" because "Jesus was Jewish."

A lot of antisemites look like a political commentator talking about the "globalists" and the "secret cabal controlling the government and Hollywood."

A lot of antisemites look like your gay friend who says he can't be antisemitic because he's gay and "the Nazis killed gay people too."

A lot of antisemites look like social justice advocates who will advocate for every marginalized community but will stay silent as soon as they are confronted with the antisemitism in their own circles.

A lot of antisemites look like fandom bloggers who think it's funny and original to call Jewish features "feral" or "sleepy" or "sneaky" or "rat-like" or "creepy".

People who want to deny their own antisemitism will push the idea that only Nazis are antisemites.

I saw a fan fiction writer whose stuff I really enjoyed tag something with “from the r*ver…” and I wrote an anon note saying “hey, just so you know, that’s a genocidal statement, I hope you didn’t know that and it’s not what you meant” and they were like “no, I fully meant it” and went on about it

idk, just very shaken that there are people with no skin in this game who are willing to admit to hating Jews that much

IGN did a review of Hogwarts Legacy.

It was praise for the game.

Then a little aside about JKR "comments" about trans people and not a single word on the blood libel and other antisemitism in the game.

To sum up the horrible danger she has put trans people in and harm she has caused that community, the murderous people she has platformed, the rhetoric she has spewed, the dog-piling she participated in, and the hate organizations she has given money to as simply comments is disgusting.

It severely downplays the reality of what is going and the harm done to trans community.

Furthermore to not say a single word about the antisemitism that the very plot is hinged upon is absurd. How can you not talk about the racism that makes up the entire fucking story.

The Fallout TV show puts people of color in the most supreme positions of power within the evil corporation in both past and present as though racism didn't exist in pre-war society, as though the United States didn't cannonically have internment camps for Asian Americans before the Great War -.-

Because, you know, the original series is supposed to be about criticizing systemic bigotry and the forces that uphold it? But now we're pretending Pre-War society was completely colorblind and didn't discriminate based on race at all.

Because the white writers think having a Black woman be the one who literally decides to end the world for profit is a good idea. And thinks having another Black woman be the Scary Infiltrator inside the Vault is a good idea. While portraying a white man who wants to keep all outsiders out and execute prisoners as the good guy, while the "bumbling, ridiculous" people of color suggest welcoming the raiders into society and treating them like people with the potential to be good if only their circumstances change to allow them that option.

I questions pro-shipper stance about "fiction not affecting reality", mainly not about if incestuous ships or age-gap with minor and an adutl is problematic (still a oof though) but about fetishization and sexualization of certain characters since proshipper doesn't merely supported about laissez-faire for ship but also smut content. Even though the character is fiction (and ignoring the problematic implication for rl minor actor playing them), many of them, and I referring to a significant group, are BIPOC, queer like lesbian, and religion minority. I question if, even if the lesbian character you ship with a man (or appallingly, have her rape by him) is fictional, will this start changing your prospective about irl lesbian, or, while drawing Chel, even if she a fictional character, she is an Native Mexican woman, a group who have been, not just heavily sexualized by Criolllo and Angelo cultural sense and media, but suffered mass rape since the 16th century.

Another thing is about respect for circumstance of horrible events that proshipper are tend to be tone-deaf. Question if it's okay to have have a fic/art smut of your ship to be in: portraying a master/slave relationship in the Antebellum, the Confederate flag bikini that a BIPOC is wearing, or other events, symbol that proshipper don't simply insensitive too or don't care.

I talking about this because I recalled, checking that, yes a fic that encourages me to write this post, about a SS Quinn raping Rachel in a concentration camp.

i've been distancing myself from a lot of fandom friends who have treated the war like just another fandom, and for weeks i've been feeling really bad about ghosting them instead of talking directly to them, and have a dozen drafts trying to explain both the factual ways in which they're falling for antisemitic propaganda and the more emotional ways in which that hurts me in a way i think they'd understand. today they praised and defended iran's attack

it's really horrible to feel both justified and shamed at the same time. i wish i had just been over-sensitive; the embarrassment alone at least wouldn't be as isolating

I keep having this terrible thought.

A thought that haunts me as I read article after article, watch commentary video after commentary video.

As I scour the internet to find almost no mention of absolutely horrific antisemitism found in Hogwarts Legacy.

Antisemitism so bad it read like something take right pages of history book about an pogrom from middle ages.

I find maybe one or two Jewish news sites sadly giving the most mild reactions to it.

What I do find are endless information of JKR's transphobia, the escalation of her transphobia, what she is doing with her money, her dangerous rhetoric, and a break down of anything and everything you might need to know in regards to this realm.

To be clear I'm very happy that so many people are talking her horrific actions and statements and are willing to hold her responsible for that which she says and does. That is good, that is important.

But when tumblr is the only place I see talking about the terrifying antisemitism of this game, where we Jews here have gone in depth multiple times breaking it down to show how very explicit the antisemitism.

How antisemitic choices in even the smallest of details in this game that you might not even notice which just furthers goes to proves how very intentional it all is.

And I can't find anything comparable to what going on here tumblr well I'm a bit at loss for words.

Sure there may be sentence here or a something mentioned in passing there or maybe on the rare occasion some trying to bring attention to what is happening in the comments.

But that is it.

So I'm left thinking a terrible thought, if JKR wasn't transphobic, but the game was still just as antisemitic where would we be. What would happen then. Would even on tumblr anyone care to listen to us.

I don't enjoy this thought, I don't like. I know it is very Oppression Olympics in nature and I hate it.

And at the same time I remember for how long so many of us said hey these books how some major antisemitism problems to only be silenced and essentially be speaking to the void.

Same with when the new movies came, the fantastic beasts set of films, we had the same story of pointing out some major antisemitic problems and again getting told to be quiet, that we are making a mountain out a molehill, being paranoid, seeing antisemitism everywhere, and the other usual exhausting things that get to said us.

And the suddenly like magic one day people decided now is the time to care about the antisemitism in the Harry Potter universe.

Except is felt less like caring about the antisemitism because it is a problem, it adds to the endangering of Jewish people, adds to the further normalization of antisemitism and its various stereotypes and tropes, and so on.

Rather it felt more like we were being used like both a prop and to help prop up other peoples points and very valid issues with the series ad JKR herself. But there wasn't any actual listening to Jewish voices or involving in them.

So I am frustrated, I am hurt, and most of all I tired.

I'm tired of these games that being played our lives.

Being Jewish in Diaspora is like with a sword above your head and it is a matter of high or low that sword is. Well right now that sword is pretty low down and gets ever closer to coming down us.

So I'm tired yes, but I guess a foolish part me also held hope expecting better only to be so bitterly let down.

Unfortunately, disappointment in these dangerous times is just to expensive.

As an ex-fan I saw a really good take that I want to expand on that I think also applies to a lot of people who like (or defend, despite not liking) Peggy Carter, her (often impulsive and violent) abusive behaviour, and especially her Nazi ties; which go beyond being based off a Nazi (which should be more than enough on its own), and reaches into actively welcoming Nazis into the organization she created to "honor" a man who not only died trying to fight them, but was created to fight American complacency, and giving them the resources and access to infiltrate every single level of SHIELD.

Allowing themselves to understand and accept criticism against her, instead of brushing it off or twisting it, requires they sit with their own culpability, their own guilt in ignoring it and defending her for so long. For a lot of them, the ones that are generally pretty understanding people, they aren't really defending her, they're defending themselves for liking her.

They'd rather preform apologetics (including Nazi apologetics), embrace rad/fem ideology, intentionally misrepresent people and arguments against her, and silence or ignore the voices of groups negatively impacted by her deification (especially SA survivors, Jews, and fans of colour) so they can maintain a feeling of righteousness and innocence, rather than admit that they've made a mistake. To admit that is to admit their own biases and moral vulnerability. To admit they've perpetuated harm against groups they claim to ally with.

Admitting she's not an innocent angel/feminist icon who is the poor defenseless victim of hypocritical womanhaters, requires a level of maturity to be able to confront and admit one's own guilt, to acknowledge where one's privileges warp one's perspective, to hold oneself accountable, to learn and grow and be better, are skills they do not possess.
