Hi Space!! I saw your post about Obsidian, and I think it would be perfect for my worldbuilding notes. (for novels + D&D things). Do you have any advice about how to get started with a worldbuilding/story vault? Especially how to make it look as nice and aesthetic as your notes? I opened Obsidian for the first time just now and I immediately felt lowkey overwhelmed by the possibilities.

You also mentioned plug-ins? How do those work? Do you have any you consider essential for yourself?

not silly questions at all! i'm more than happy to chat about obsidian for literal hours

The key here is do not do everything at once. As you build, what you think you need, and what you actually need, will change. The best way, I’ve found, to build any kind of vault in Obsidian is organically. Put in a small bit of information, play with it, then put in some more.

I fully expect no-one to do this, because I did not, and ended up refactoring my entire process multiple times, because I am an idiot who thinks common sense does not apply to me.

I wrote a post for anon here that covers some bits about plugins (which i will be making a post about soon, it’s in progress!), and such, but I’ll repeat here one of my main points, which is that there are as many ways to organise Obsidian as there are people. It is overwhelming, because there is so much freedom. I spent a long time switching through themes and organisation methods, before realising that I had to grow my own process that worked for me.

I base mine on a (very very) bastardised version of Johnny Decimal. Top level folders for large categories, with subfolders if needed.

making a worldbuilding/story vault

For a worldbuilding/story vault, I’d recommend starting with the very very basics of your information:

a folder for meta information, like images, pdfs, other files, any templates you make. just to keep that stuff out of the way

a folder for research

a folder or folders for characters and setting

a folder for the actual writing

within those, it depends on what you’re working on how you want to organise. I have the following in my ‘world’ folder for the Valloroth vault:

I like big categories and i cannot lie. I like this method because it makes sense for my brain, and I know where to look for things. however, don’t feel beholden to any organisation you set up if it’s not working. try it, find the friction points, try something different to ease the friction points.

the best and worst thing about Obsidian is that you can do whatever you want. so if it’s not working - change it! it’s your vault!

for the aesthetic

i am the kind of person who knows just enough css to be a danger to myself and others, and I like tinkering. it took me a couple years to get my vaults looking the way they do, but the quickest way to get a pretty vault is to look at community themes!

For d&d, the go-to MVP of themes is ITS Theme. It has a lot of options, a really good set of explainer docs, and the dev is a pretty active member in the discord community. (hi SlR if you ever read this! love your work!)

My main vault uses the typewriter theme, with custom colour accents, custom fonts, and also a bunch of CSS snippets. Valloroth is entirely custom on top of vanilla obsidian, and i’m scared to look at the code because it’s over a year old now, and I haven’t really updated it and I am not a dev TT_TT

many of my prettifying tweaks are bits of CSS I’ve collected from lurking in discord over the past few years, or stolen from other themes.

but if you’re not a nerd with too much free time like me, hop into the community themes under ‘appearance’ in settings, and play around until you find one you like. and then, if you’re a nerd with too much free time like me, there’ll be like one or two things in that theme you want to change, and before you know it you’re neck deep in w3schools trying to figure out which selector you need to target when you should be asleep.

You braced your hands against the sink counter, taking a shaky breath in and out.

It wasn’t that Austin would stop you from leaving if you walked out of the bathroom and told him you’d changed your mind. He’d asked if you were sure about accepting his proposition of getting a room for the night no short of six times after you’d agreed. And another three on the drive over from media training for the GQ event tomorrow. 

“I don’t wanna pressure you ” He’d said as the car pulled to a redlight, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye. You sat up a little straighter, hands folded in your lap as you spoke. “And you aren’t Austin.”

It wasn’t a lie, nor had he had to do much convincing to begin with. The idea of it had lingered in the back of your mind since the first Facetime call after casting was finalized. He was ridiculously attractive- you hit it off instantly. And if how touchy he was when you spent time together in person meant anything you assumed he was into to some degree.

But he was with Vanessa.

And still was, though you’d assigned a “kinda” moniker to that in the past hour since he caught your arm walking to the parking lot, rushing the disclaimer out when he saw how wide your eyes at the initial proposition.

“We’re gonna break up real soon. Don’t think she wanted to do it before I had to come here and do press. That’s all.” 

It was still wrong, You thought- knew. 

But you’d managed to shove down the guilt, talking yourself in circles about how they’d be broken up within 24 hours of him getting back to the states and that no one would ever have to know about this. 

Austin gave you a ball cap and sunglasses from his car when you went inside, donning the same simple disguise himself as he checked in using a name that wasn’t his.

There was, even so, a flash of recognition in the recipetionsits eyes when he talked and tried to ignore it, alongside the anxiety blooming in your chest. 

Which you did pretty well until you actually got up the room- ducking into the bathroom “for a second” that was starting to approach ten minutes. 

You weren't surprised when a familiar knock came through from the other side. 

“You alright?” Austin asked, concern in his tone. 

Swallowing thickly, you opened and shut your mouth when you felt tears stinging behind your eyes.

Heat rushed to your face as you tried to chastise yourself away from crying. Every other twenty-one year old actress you knew would be jumping at the opportunity to sleep with their attractive co-star that had almost a decade on them.

But here you were, about to cry in the bathroom and shoot yourself in the foot like a little bitch, you mumbled under your breath.

You didn’t realize the sliding bathroom door didn’t have a lock until you heard a creak as it slipped half an inch open, and heard Austin’s breathing.

He paused, and you could almost feel him leaning his head against the door. 

“You can come in.” You whispered before he could say anything and the door slid all the way open slowly.

He stepped in and you looked away when you caught his eyes in the mirror, his face dropping when he clocked your expression and realized you were close to tears. He took a step closer and leaned his backside against the sink counter.

“Hey,” He said softly, placing a hand over one of yours.  “I meant what I said, I can drive you back to your AirBnB right now- that’s okay.”

There was some part of you that knew you should take him up on that, but whether it was right or not you didn’t actually want to leave. But you weren’t about to turn and unload on Austin about how conflicted you felt about the whole affair aspect of what you were barreling towards.

“We still have a whole movie to film together, and promote.” You started, hating that your voice trembled. “If this makes things weird and then we hate each other or can’t be in the same room,”

Austin listened intently to your rambling, rubbing his thumb against the side of your hand where he was still holding it. 

“Well one, I don’t think you could ever do anything that’d make me hate you.” He said, a hint of a southern drawl slipping into his voice that made you want to kiss him senseless mid sentence. “Not that I don’t get where you’re coming from, cause I do.” He continued. “But all that matters tonight is you and me. Not Elvis and Priscilla- just Austin and Y/N, two friends who met through a co-worker.”

He let out a soft laugh at the last bit, and you wanted to quip back that it wasn’t that simple. That it was never going to be that simple and that “co-worker” was doing some heavy lifting for Baz Luhrman. 

But the look Austin had in his eyes as he tucked a piece of hair behind your ear drove you off the sink and into crashing your mouths together. He let out a little gasp at the suddenness of the kiss but reciprocated soon enough, hands finding purchase on your hips as your palms slid up the sides of his neck.

You’d been expecting the first kiss to be good, but the way his mouth moved against yours was like nothing you’d ever experienced in your life. He kissed you like he was drowning man gasping for air. And you almost whined out loud when he pulled back after a minute- breath shaking.

“Let’s move this outta the bathroom, yeah?” 

Giving a short nod, you nudged him backward with your foot as you went back to making out. 

But you only took two steps before you felt Austin sliding his hands off your hips to your backside, grabbing your ass in both palms. He lifted you just off your feet and you got the message, hopping up and allowing your legs to wrap around him. 

You’d just slid your tongue into his mouth when you felt the bulge in his pants rub against you. The friction hit at just the right angle to make your breath catch, Austin letting out a light chuckle against your mouth.

He laid you gently onto the mattress when you reached the bed, motioning for you to sit up so he could arrange the pillows more conveniently, sliding one under your hips. 

When sat back to admire his handiwork on that the first thought that came to your mind as his eyes raked across your body was that you felt small. But he dove dowin to kiss you again and it was quickly forgotten, replaced with pleasure as he slotted a knee between your legs. 

He dragged his mouth down to kiss your neck and you could no longer muffle the sounds rising up your throat against his mouth. Something he seemed to revel in as he pushed your hair back for better access.

Does Dragon Conflict takes place before Storm Bringer?

Cause in Storm Bringer Chuuya's hair is a bit compared to Dragon Conflict

The 2nd I keep getting myself into in

Storm Bringer Dazai only wears the overcoat and no blazer underneath where in Dragon Conflict he wears a blazer

Dragon's Head Conflict takes place after Stormbringer! We know this because Chuuya can activate Corruption - which Verlaine unlocked by opening his gate, he has his signature hat - which belonged to Verlaine and allows him to control the opening of the gate, and Dazai is already friends with Odasaku - who meets him in the short light novel Day I Picked Up Dazai where Dazai proceeds to tell him about Chuuya and the fight against Guivre (it's referenced very offhandedly and not by name but... it's there). This heavily implies Dazai met Odasaku after Stormbringer as well.

About Dazai's outfit: he wears it blazer-less in Fifteen and Stormbringer and with a blazer in DHC and Dark Era like you said. I kind of wonder if maybe it's related in any way to him switching his pronoun from boku to watashi in Day I Picked Up Dazai... I'm still very much a beginner in my Japanese language learning so I can't verify this (feel free to factcheck me!) but the translator is popopretty so I trust her.

"TN: Dazai switches his pronoun from “boku” to “watashi” for the first time here. “Boku” is usually used by younger boys while “watashi” is more formal and neutral. It can be considered a sign of growth."

So I wonder if part of the reason for the change in outfits is to look a little more formal and mature on his part? That's just speculation though.

But yeah, it's certain that Dragon's Head Conflict takes place after Stormbringer due to the hat and the use of Corruption alone. They both took place in the same year, when Chuuya and Dazai were both 16. So Chuuya lost two entire groups of friends in the span of less than a year...

To answer your initial question, yes, it seems that Chuuya cut his hair in between. He is our fashion icon for a reason, I guess! I do wonder about the significance of some of his outfit changes as well... Chuuya undergoes the most outfit changes in the series and it's not just for aesthetic.

Okay, so this has been bothering me for a while now, and I haven’t seen anyone else say it; so I’m going to put an opinion out there and say that Martin and Melanie annoyed me in MAG 199.

(This is also a bit of an analysis of the episode.)

(just so you know, this is very long.)

So first of I should say that I 100% agree with Jon, that they should have trapped The Fears in their world; so just know I’m probably being, at least a bit, biased about it. (not saying killing the world is good)

I think the best way to do this is to start from the beginning of the episode and work my way through it, giving criticism as I go.

It starts with them avoiding the question until Georgie decides they need to talk about it; this is just a minor nitpick, and maybe I misunderstood what he was saying, but Martin says this:

Then later he goes on to say this:

So which is it, Martin? Is it up to Jon or not?

Anyway, then there’s this little exchange:

I know why Martin is so against it, but this just seems a bit obstinate; like I get it, he’s scared of Jon losing himself to The Eye, but you really want to go with The Web’s plan? You know, The Web, the manifestation of manipulation, the malevolent Fear entity, that Web? You want to go with that plan? Really?

And at least Martin has the excuse of caring about Jon, but Melanie? Why is she so against Jon’s plan? Is it really just because she hates him that much? The only possible reason I can think could be that she thinks that Jon will be selfish and prolong others suffering because she knew that he once hid the fact that he took Statements from random people, but even then, I don’t think even Melanie hates him that much.(Considering the fact that she didn’t actually think he murdered anyone, I don’t think she hates him as much as she says)

Next up, Georgie’s trying to talk out all their options and asks Jon about how The Fears will get out:

Martin is, once again, being obstinate here; he is out right refusing to even consider Jon’s plan, making any excuse to go with The Web’s plan.

Georgie reiterates their options so far:

Martin, you just said thousands of worlds don’t matter “cosmically speaking” by your own logic they should keep The Fears contained; because if thousands of worlds aren’t “even a drop in the bucket” then their world is hardly even a molecule.

Melanie’s in denial or something, because any reality with The Fears, even if it never gets to full blown apocalypse, is doomed; did she forget all the horrible things happening in their world before the apocalypse?

They have the little blame conversation, then Georgie gets to the third option:

Martin’s just agreeing to any option that Jon doesn’t take over the panopticon; he doesn’t care if their world dies or a thousand others do, he just doesn’t want Jon to go to the panopticon.

Then they consider the morality of five people deciding the fate of the world, leading to this conversation:

Despite what Martin says, yes, he is okay with thousands more suffering where he can’t hear; the excuse of saying it’ll be like before the apocalypse makes it sound like their world was good before. Their world was full of horrors before, where people could get eaten by monsters just for having bad luck, and Martin’s okay with giving that to thousands of other worlds.

I’ll put the rest of this conversation in before I continue:

I put (mostly) the whole thing because I wanted the full context, this is the main thing I wanted to talk about; so they're debating if their world is The Fears original world or not. Would killing them here kill them for good? yes, and if they thought it over longer they would have realized it; Melanie and Martin are arguing that The Fears were in their world for centuries before they managed a ritual, but now it knows how to make a successful ritual and escape it. what's to stop it from preforming a ritual, waiting for it to start running dry, then leaving to a new reality? (I say "it" because The Fears are one entity [kinda] with The Web as it's brain)

Melanie is victim-blaming thousands of other people to justify sending The fears to them; "if a apocalypse happens to them it's their fault they couldn't outsmart the embodiment of manipulation, so lets follow said embodiment of manipulation's plan, yeah?

(As a side note, one thing that confuses me is why they think The Fears can go to so many worlds, do they mean at once? Will The Fears multiply? Because how would they get to multiple worlds at once, they need to be together, that's why the rituals never worked, it had to be all of them. I always assumed it meant it could hop from one world and then the next when that one got dry. [like a spider on a web, it can travel between each point, but it can't be everywhere at once])

Jon puts the idea of killing the world faster out there:

No, they'll actually have less of a chance, cause now The Web knows what to do. Basira doesn't want to hear Jon justify killing their world but will justify sending the same circumstances to thousands of other worlds.

That's basically the end of the discussion, next is Georgie talking to Jon:

At the very least, Georgie knew that Jon wasn't going to follow the plan. I don't think it's a coincidence that she takes the lighter and immediately follows with an apology; Also she admits Jon couldn't outsmart The Web and it led to the apocalypse, but still goes along with it's plan. (Maybe she just accepts they shouldn't bother trying to outsmart it.)

and now to Martin and Jon's conversation

I kinda do Martin.

(Others have talked about Martin crushing Jon's flowershop/barista fantasy, so I'm not going to talk about it.)

Martin just annoys me in this scene to be honest "well, Jon, you promised not to do anything stupid; oh, and look, here's a plan given to us on silver platter by, none other than, The Web, you know, the one who caused this and traumatized you since you were 8, yeah lets do that. Don't worry Jon, we'll fix this...pass it on? Don't be silly Jon, I'm sure The Web gave us this plan out of the goodness of it's nonexistent heart."

Anyways I'll wrap this up in a minute, but first, one last thing:

I've seen others say this, but why would Martin killing Jonah stop Jon from taking his place? Especially if Jon's standing 10 feet away; if the idea is that whoever kills Jonah will take his place then Martin would just become the very thing he thinks Jon will turn into. And if you think it's because Martin's not tied to The Eye, you'd be wrong, Martin being tied to The Eye is the whole reason Peter wanted Martin to kill Jonah in season 4. If anyone should kill Jonah, it'd be Georgie because she's the only one not tied to The Eye.

Now, just to be clear, I'm not saying that any of this is bad; I just haven't seen anyone talk about it. I'm not saying that the others were wrong for choosing The Web's plan, (ok, maybe I am a little) it's not like I have to decide the fate of my, and many other's, world(s).

I just feel like I've seen a lot of people hold the other characters up on a pedestal while Jon's idea is regarded as the worse possible thing out there (again, not saying his idea was good, just the best out of bad options.)

And just so you know, I'm not saying Martin is selfish for wanting Jon to be safe, I'm mostly just annoyed that he hides it under the guise of caring about humanity (No, I'm not saying he doesn't care about humanity, just that he'd rather "save" Jon than consider the consequences of releasing The Fears) and most people take it at face value.

I have a lot more I could say about the morality of all the characters, but that's another post, if you actually read this whole thing, then congratulations, for sitting through my very long, hopefully intelligible, post. (I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on the episode [or this post])

Thank you so much for thinking so! 🥰 as for how, im not sure. I suppose I tend to really focus on their eye shapes. Like Sora's, I make bigger and fuller, not just the whole eye but the iris too. While Riku has them more sharp and upturned but I occasionally make his iris smaller. Honestly, I tend to see just how catlike their faces are. and play to those characteristics. Tbh they always kinda looked like kittens to me 😅 especially when they're angry.

     An isolated part of Link knows that isn't the right word for it. Realises, distantly, how unfair this maybe is of him — as though this is something Shion should think to remember for him when he only knows the bits and pieces of Link that are polished enough to be seen. As though Shion's the strange one for being some amount of normal about the moon. But this is how he puts it: I forgot, and the voice that would argue against the surge of hurt that spears through Link's veins is not loud.

     The world bleeds in cinders, ashes of red that curl up in the lungs breathing them in like wildfire fumes. Everything sways. Everything shudders. It's the trembling of an earth that cannot move away from the moon that seeks to consume it, and Link— braces himself, stumbles over himself, catches himself on too small hands and knees; is in two places at once without it registering that he's actually stuck, actually frozen, actually unmoved from where he's standing and sinking into a shell carved from echoes of another time and world.

     The head won't shake. The fingers dart down, then up, then for the pouch they will not ungrip as nnnn clings to gritted teeth. It's a twitch of a sound he can't fully release while Tatl urges in an ear, the song! The song, play the song!

     Link doesn't know what this is. He doesn't know what the moon wants. He doesn't know how to ask when all he can do is look up at Shion, heart pounding a horrified rhythm, and think of what he will lose to the ocarina he can trace beneath the leather separating it from his touch this time.

I've been thinking about the Ruination Corporation lore and I've started to play with the idea that the corps has kind of expanded over time, leading to many facilities where they run their shady dealings. These facilities will probably also have satellite sites/facilities where they store things and/or focus on the different aspects of what they do. With that being said, I now also realize that I'm going to have to think more about these different facilities and how they run. I'm definitely considering each of the Salvific Six getting their own facilities that they run (Paradigm's being the largest and most important) with the others being less grandiose and more hidden to the average onlooker, but with that comes another problem.

I'll have to create characters that run these extra facilities while these members are otherwise occupied, AND I'll have to consider making characters for the satellite facilities. There's....a lot of work ahead of me lol.

(Now that I'm thinking about it...maybe we'll see some old faces within the corps. But you didn't hear that from me 😉)

Each of the characters who run in the absence of a Salvific Six member are those sincerely trusted by the member to run their operations. I can imagine that many of the right-hand members are reflections of their overseer, though not all of them are.

(Keep in mind, many of these operations and facilities run independently and can sometimes clash with each other. When that happens, the members can gather at the main facility to have a meeting to clear things up, with Paradigm often having the final word)

The only exception to this rule would be Paradigm's facility, as I think they would entrust Vyrox with their tasks whenever they leave. Paradigm is the ONLY member that does this, as they simply find many of their rank-and-file members lacking. Their trust simply doesn't trickle down far enough for them to see any member outside of the Six to carry out their work, and even then, many of the members they'd find too self-interested to be able to adequately run their entire regime without catastrophic consequences.

what makes zoom exclusive therapy so unhelpful? i only started going to therapy after the pandemic started so all my experiences have been virtual, i feel like i don't have the experience to know the difference

the shift towards teletherapy becoming the default type of therapy is something i find scary because it’s very appealing to therapists but comes with a lot of downsides to clients. it also renders therapy completely inaccessible to me personally due to the specifics of my ptsd. i guess i should acknowledge first that there are people that don’t mind it, find it just as helpful as in-person, and people for which it’s necessary, like those with mobility issues. additionally i understand that it’s been necessary for the pandemic. so to be clear, i see that zoom is beneficial for some and i’m fine with it being offered as an option — but therapists are increasingly offering it exclusively, and it seems like this trend is going to be permanent regardless of whether covid is a factor.

downsides of zoom therapy-

privacy: most people don’t live alone and don’t have a dedicated soundproof space to go to. being overheard is something i get really paranoid about, and even when i’m home alone i find myself being much more guarded around what i say & am always distracted by my heightened awareness of who can hear me at any time. there is no way to be sure the therapist working from their home is taking your privacy as seriously as you are, either.

internet issues: bad wifi can ruin vulnerable moments, and small instances of interference can add up to minutes and minutes of technical difficulties that you’re still going to be billed for.

reduced emotional connection: i think that reading peoples body language and subconscious behavior does a lot of the work in forming trust with and getting to know someone. sharing a physical space with someone will allow you to pick up on important subtleties and i think because of that, therapists have a more shallow understanding of their clients if they can’t be with them in person. aside from that, talking to someone through a screen doesn’t feel quite as real as being in a room with them, (and social consequences feel less important when you can just shut your computer off), so it can be hard for either a therapist or client to get all that invested in the other. i don’t feel that therapy is effective unless the therapist is emotionally engaged with you, you know? also, this type of distance can feel a lot safer for anxious and avoidant clients, but actually i really think that indulging that tendency isn’t that helpful. Being challenged to leave the house and have a conversation with someone in person is the less convenient option but is FAR more conducive to healing, imo.

other distractions: a therapy office is meant to be a dedicated space with an air of professionalism where the focus is on you. other housemates, pets, scrolling through the internet, and other everyday factors can disrupt that. also, a lot of people find having to look at themselves in the camera the whole session very distracting. it’s easy to stare at yourself the whole time, judge the way you look and police the way you react to things, but turning the camera off can hurt the therapists ability to connect with you.

why is this format more appealing to therapists? less overheard cost (they don’t have to pay for an office). so, yeah, these are the main reasons i dislike teletherapy and don’t want the field to go virtual. but i’m sure lots of people have very different experiences from me & i know i tend to have very negative opinions of the mental health field in the first place. suffice it to say i’m just not a good fit for zoom therapy

freecam anon here..... may i ask how were you able to rotate the camera during the truth ending? like during the bike scene for example... ^^'

it’s a little hard to explain but. i assume the camera won’t rotate because technically there’s no ‘player’ in that scene, despite v’s model being present in the overturned ambulance.

so what i did was use the ‘playcam’ feature and set its rotation to follow the target (im paraphrasing what the setting is actually called because i can’t check right now, but it’s something along those lines). you still can’t rotate anything manually if you do this, BUT there’s a moment during the bike scene that involves v moving around in the ambulance (the scene goes greyscale when it happens)

getting different angles involves activating the free cam, pausing the cutscene with infinite heaven during that moment, activating playcam, unpausing briefly to realign the camera’s rotation with whatever direction v is facing as he moves, pausing the scene again, deactivating playcam, and then letting the scene play until it’s back to bb and ocelot at the bike. if the angle wasn’t what i wanted, i restarted the scene, let it get back to the part with v, and did all those steps again

it’s a lot of effort and experimenting, basically. and also probably requires a small amount of insanity

So pretty much, Ten Years of Keeper was an almost month-long celebration of the 10th anniversary of kotlc. It was split into four weeks of celebration, Miscellaneous Stuff such as a scavenger hunt, and themed weeks.

For the themed weeks I had some people in the fandom help me host, and we had three weeks dedicated to the characters that we liked in fandom (Ships, Characters, and Families respectively.)

They each came up with prompts, and people made stuff based off of those prompts, or just the character(s) themselves!

Unfortunately, since the event was celebrating the anniversary of kotlc, there won't be the same thing next month.

However, I do know that there are usually 2-3 ship months happening in the next couple months, and a lot of them I'm hosting/co-hosting!

okay related to your last ask and i dont have a fully formed thought about this: but the scene between harrow and g1deon takes on this extra layer to me after g1deon expresses towards the end of the book that killing her wasnt his idea. because then it doesnt sit right with me to interpret g1deon as the 'rapist' in this situation when he doesnt seem to want to do it either, he frames his choices as that he had to do it or risk her suffering a worse fate. its very much an assault by proxy and it doesnt negate harrows status as a victim, and idk what to make of it, but sometimes i feel like g1deon was a victim of john too

oh i agree, g1deon was very much a pawn in john's hands, more so or at least more explicitly than the rest of the lyctors! g1deon's character is very interesting and im not quite sure i understand him, but i do think that his devotion and unwavering obedience to john are a core part of his character, i would say the only one we see developed in any way (and i do think tmuir had a somewhat less careful and nuanced approach to g1deon, which would explain the racist undertones present in his character, but that's a whole another discussion). however, i don't necessarily agree that that exempts him from being harrow's rapist: of course john is as much to blame as he is, if not more for putting him in that situation and giving him that order in the first place, but he's still the one who committed the physical act and is at least partially responsible for his own actions. this is not even me passing a moral judgement on him, but rather just saying that being coerced into harming someone does still result in you having harmed that person and needing to own up to that, just as your coercer would need to own up to his own wrongdoing.

Don't worry! Rock Bottom is coming! Fictional!Matty needs to just accept that's where he's at instead of getting a shovel and trying to dig deeper. I'm having a lot of fun working on this chapter so far (and getting to spend some time with some other characters as well since he and Fictional!George are no more). I hope you enjoy the direction it ends up taking and look forward to hearing your thoughts!

So in terms of chapter six, I don't think I want to share the actual "lost chapter" but after sitting down to polish it up before posting, I realized that I had made Fictional!George out to be a lot more of a "villain" and there was more of a Fictional!Matty unreliable narrator lens to their breakup, which, while I love an unreliable narrator situation, I realized was going to kind of make it hard to "redeem" George and for people to actually want them to get back together in the Ear Infection Fic. Even though I had myself absolutely in shambles over the "new" chapter, rereading it, I think I am happy with how it ended up and really happy that I rewrote it and tried to make Fictional!George a more sympathetic character as well.

sorry this took me a little bit, had a busy week. but i’ve included a tutorial on how i did those two gifs from this gifset below.

included under the cut: 

adding multiple gifs to a layout – multiple gifs inside one gif 

overlaying gifs using clipping mask

MULTIPLE SMALLER GIFS IN ONE GIF

1.      the first thing i would do when i’m making a gif using these layouts is to plan ahead and think of how many gifs i want to include and how i want them laid out. you can create lots of different layouts depending on how many/the size of gifs you want to include.

sometimes you can get templates for the layouts, like i used with this one. mostly though i find that you have the most freedom in creating when you work them out yourself. that’s where the math comes into play, working out the dimensions you want.

2.      after planning what you want to include then you can start making the gifs. the way i do this is to make the gifs to the size i have worked out in the layout. so, in this example one of the gifs from the layout should be 177 x 359 px so i made the gif with those dimensions. when making your gifs ensure that all of them have the same number of layers so that they will all be the same length on the timeline. i coloured & sharpened like normal and then i grouped the colouring & smart object gif layers into one folder, like this:

3.      after i have all the gifs made i opened the layout template i’m using in photoshop and ensure that the timeline has been converted to video timeline. then start to move the first gif onto the layout template you’re using. moving it over the section that fits its dimensions. 

4.      Next, I use the rectangular marquee tool (from the screenshot above) and drag it over the gif, ensuring that the dimensions are the same. In this example the w is still 177px & the h is still 359px.

5.      Then, while selecting the gif folder layer, select the ‘add vector mask’ button highlighted in the screenshot.

6.      Repeat this for all of the gifs you want to include. Be sure to follow this process - add a gif -then mask it - then add another gif - mask - repeat.

7.      Once you have all the gifs added and masked on the layout you should delete the layout layer and you can save your gif as normal and you’ll have something like this:

OVERLAID GIF USING CLIPPING MASK

the process for the third gif is actually pretty straightforward compared.

1. first make the base gif and the smaller gif that you would like to overlay. colour & sharpen them to your liking. (you can do this at the end but i prefer to have it done before so i know i’m happy with what i’m working with. you can always make changes to it later if you want)

2. select the image/cutout shape that you would like to use. for this gif i used a mannequin one i got from this site.  but you can work this to almost any shape or image, even text if you wanted. 

3. move the second overlay gif on top of the layers you have here, ensuring that it completely covers the mannequin image. the top gif layers should be directly above the mannequin image on in your layers pane. 

4. select all of the layers you want included in the top gif, this will include the gif layers & any adjustment layers you have. right click on these layers and select ‘create clipping mask’. 

5. i then added a drop shadow to the mannequin layer. added another layer of it in a different colour and moved that layer a few px to the right and down so that the gif could stand out a little more. 

this was the final result:

avm ep 29 predictions

ahh i know it's a bit late to be getting predictions in (literally less than an hour before the episode release orz) but if any of this stuff happens, i wanna be able to say i called it so here we are

predictions in chronological order of when i think they'll happen in the episode (under the cut tho cos this post is quite long)

major predictions (stuff i really think will happen / otherwise put a lot of thought into)

this place is where mango tested their command block staff and that's why it's all messed up

this theory was actually proposed to me by my brother, who suggested it after the first teaser gif for this episode was released (the one with all the flying animals)

at the time, we wanted to come up with a reason for all the weird stuff going on in the teaser but now that we've gotten the second teaser gif and the name of the episode, it might not hold true anymore since it looks like the episode will focus more on note blocks

anyway most of the reasoning behind this was just. the mobs kinda look like they're flying as if they were in creative mode cos they're just floating

so i joked that this is what it would look like if you ran /gamemode creative @/e (as in the command affects all mobs and players)

finally getting info on what happened to purple before current arc (episodes 20 - now) / before they met the colour gang

i really want to know what happened to them after ep 10, after they got dragged offscreen by the villagers,,,, i've come up with 3 possible scenarios and if any of them end up being canon i will SCREAM

scenario 1: they got put in the jail cell blue and green were put in and remained there for an unspecified amount of time, which probably made them very lonely and desperate for connection. this is now a great time for mango to come in and rescue them, thereby indebting purple to them forever

scenario 2: they got exiled from their own desktop by the villagers, who basically kicked them into the nether and destroyed the portal after them. maybe they're desperate to go back, and that's what mango offered them in exchange for their loyalty

scenario 3: exile again, but they go and live on the colour gang's desktop while they're still going through the events of portal arc (eps 8 - 14). you ever wonder how they got onto the colour gang's desktop to be there for the events of vs league of legends? yeah

i also really want to know how they met mango, but particularly when they met

^ i go into more detail about this in my timeline post (link coming soon but essentially the timeline of events for purple goes creation -> ??? -> ep 9-10 -> exile / imprisonment -> met king, agreed to serve them -> vs league -> still working for king / inner conflict -> current arc) but i think it would be very interesting for them to meet mango before vs league, since that way, mango likely forced them into betraying the colour gang in the parkour plan, which means they never chose between the colour gang and mango :"

i really hope we find out why they chose to follow mango,,,, like what did mango offer them that was so important to them that they ignored all the warning signs saying mango never really cared about them? (notable examples include mango shoving purple aside immediately after giving them a headpat in parkour, and the scene where mango blasts purple through a wall using the staff in ultimate weapon)

^ personally, i think initially they might've wanted power but it quickly became more about affection / friendship / validation, and mango knew and exploited this to keep them loyal and controlled

as for their backstory, i have absolutely no idea SHDJSHD but this episode is probably the most information we'll ever get on purple so might as well hope for it

also maybe they could convey all this to us using the same visual speech thing that red and second did in lush caves? it's quite complex information so i don't think gestures will be enough here

why i think green is in a good position to forgive purple

they've got the most information on purple in general, since they saw the mission briefing in parkour and they were there for the events of episodes 9 and 10 (villagers and the end)

from what they told blue and yellow in ultimate weapon, they know that purple's serving king and they're not equals since there was a frame in their visual explanation that showed purple kneeling in front of mango on their throne, then another frame of mango commanding them (timestamp 3:30 if you'd like to see)

^ so like. maybe they'd believe it if purple told them they didn't actually want to betray the colour gang but they were forced into it / they still want to be friends

they actively extended friendship to purple in vs league (they held their hand out to purple after second initiated their introduction, and they stayed back to encourage them to join in the match at the end)

purple sacrificing themself to defeat king

i really don't want this to happen actually but i can see it so clearly it's awful

look. it's just that purple is so loyal to mango despite how badly mango treats them, so if they do end up joining the colour gang i just. i wonder if that loyalty will carry over with the same intensity

second rediscovering their powers in the fight against mango

mm i actually didn't come up with this theory independently (i think maybe i saw a post by @/tulipsempai that made me consider it?) but i think it's an interesting scenario

i feel like it's fairly likely cos it feels like something that would happen in canon to give the colour gang a fairer chance against mango (since they're very overpowered right now, with both The Blocks and the staff)

but also i don't want it to happen cos it would go against my headcanon for how second's powers work,,,

basically, i think that their powers will only activate if they die, and i don't want anyone to die next episode ashjdg

anyway i don't think mango will kill anyone cos they'd just respawn back at the desktop, so it'd be more beneficial to keep them prisoner so they don't cause trouble yknow

the end portal texture theory

so you all know how the black hole that mango made with the staff in ultimate weapon had the end portal texture on it

i think there's absolutely no reason why it should look like that, unless it's really an end portal

the reasoning behind this is that if it was just a black hole, it could've used the night sky texture that was used for the witch's portal potions in ep 21

therefore, the end portal texture must mean something, right? (i really hope it's not just to look cool asjhdgh)

additional theory courtesy of @nano-blob, who i presented the end portal texture theory to first: what if everyone gets sucked into the black hole for an Epic Finale Battle in the end (which is actually still plausible since mango probably made another black hole at the end of the raid, judging by the motion and the visual effects)

minor predictions (a fair chance of happening / what-if scenarios / not much impact on how the episode as a whole will go)

purple didn't run into this portal for any particular reason, they just wanted somewhere to be alone and cry

green being mad at first then sympathising (maybe upon seeing that they're upset?)

^ alternatively, green telling purple that they got a taste of their own medicine and that they deserved it ("now you know how it feels to be betrayed, huh?")

purple thinking that green came to kill them but actually green's just concerned about them

green offers their hand / an opportunity for friendship to purple and they refuse initially cos they don't think they deserve it after the betrayal in parkour

green pulling some kinda pied piper deal with the noteblock they have in the second teaser (like using it to communicate with a bunch of mobs and rally them against mango)

it's possible that the colour gang might not defeat mango this episode, and we might have a final episode of just them fighting against mango

purple helping the colour gang fight / defeat king!!!

colour gang being distrustful of purple and green has to explain why they're friends again / why they've decided to trust purple now

wishful thinking (i want this to happen SO BAD but i know there's a very real chance of it not happening)

i'm sure you all can tell but i really really want purple to be emotional this episode,,,,,, a lot of things have happened to them tbh and they deserve to let it out

purple using invisibility potions to hide but they still give themself away cos green can hear them crying,,,,,, we've never seen their inventory so i don't think they have potions anyway but GOD IF IT ISN'T ANGSTY

purple joins the colour gang permanently and they go back to the desktop together,,,,, look i just want them to be friends so bad asjhd (also i need more canon purple content please)

i know it's not gonna happen because of what we saw in the teaser but i'm still audgdsu over the idea of one of them falling into powder snow and the other having to save them (either way works but man,,, it would be such a good plot device to show green that purple still thinks of them as friends / doesn't actually want to hurt them) (alternatively, to show purple that green doesn't want revenge / that they're just concerned for them)

^ the above theory was written before we got the teaser gifs that confirmed they're not in a snow biome, but an alternative version that could still work in the current setting is either purple or green getting into trouble and having to be rescued / needing help (trouble is very vague cos idk what's going to happen next ep)

other theories (varying probability and coherence but i thought they were interesting)

my sister proposed the possibility that this place is a trap before the teaser came out, and initially i refuted it cos i thought that purple running into this particular portal wasn't planned on their part (ie. they only came here because they were upset and wanted to run away after being betrayed). but now it's actually looking more likely cos of the noteblock trees and the episode being called note block universe?? it probably means nothing but well. it's green and their main thing is making music,,, it's just that the correlation is too strong and i don't like it

a scene where purple tries to hide from green behind a tree or smth but gives themself away cos they tapped a note block seems to have an ok chance of happening to me but also?? i feel like that's not enough of a reason for the trees to be note blocks cos it's too weird to have such a simple purpose

^ that was written before we learnt that the name of the episode is note block universe and therefore the main focus will probably be note blocks, but i think it's still an interesting scenario
