hey i would love to hear you rant about the balance in utmv and why it sucks

kris you are my sole enabler. thank you.

short version: the balance doesn't make sense and is overused.

long version: below. might wanna strap in, i don't know how long it is...

⚠️ the following statements are all /lh and are not intended to offend anyone. to anyone currently writing/making something involving the balance, please keep going, i'm sure it'll be great! i'm just getting tired of seeing it over and over again (so i decided to start the revolution /j). ⚠️

❗️also, slight tw: slight mentions of sewer slide, slight mentions of body horror❗️

first of all, the whole fgod error thing is okay. it's a cute concept – actually, maybe all of the "error's broken and bleeding bones" and "error flung himself into the void to escape it all" is more disturbing than cute, but you get what i mean – and i will respect this. i'm pretty sure that 'healing what has been broken' was the pioneer for destructivedeath and errormare — and this i can acknowledge! i just want to let people know that i am getting tired of seeing the same thing over and over again... which is why i'm writing a rant.

my first gripe with the balance: it exists. the whole shtick with the balance is that it's a limitation of sorts, a rule of thumb for ink and error to follow when they're doing their little multiversal god things. now tell me: if the multiverse/doodle sphere is a representation of the creative activity of the entire fandom...... why does it have a maximum capacity anyway? technically, new things are being created every single second of every single day, so if they were to come into existence at the same time then i think error would be rendered immobile at this point, according to the lore of the fgod au.

it'd be like: "*clenches soul area* aw crap. ink's making another useless au again *drops onto the floor* aw crap and another one *writhes* why the heck are there so many aughhhhhhh"

this leads to my second gripe: in a lot of these kinds of fics it's shown that ink is the creator of all the universes.

now that's fine and dandy, but canonically ink doesn't create shit.

he's the multiversal protector, meaning that he just makes sure they don't die. it's not like he himself made the characters within them suffer (in fact i'm pretty sure he doesn't really care for the people anyway, so the existence of the council is just. clever but strange), that's our fault because we made the au, not him! so really if we want to make error suffer less then we're going to have to leave the fandom for absolute dead or sth,,,,, which at this point is sort of impossible. (personally, i have been stuck here for around five years now and i always come back no matter how hard i try to leave.)

oh and i know that he can make living things like gaster blasters and stuff, but he's still the multiversal protector so that shouldn't mean that he can make whole aus on the spot. and i also know that this is an au in itself, but this is sort of a really important detail i think? i hope nobody's sleeping on this.

a third, sort of minor gripe: the concept of sides is also really strangely handled. ink's little council thing is fun tbh but everyone's such a shallow bitch and it's frustrating (which is sort of the point ig but it's worse when that's how they're portrayed in EVERY. SINGLE. BALANCE. FIC.) and i know that there are insiders like blue and idk fresh ig...... but this isn't a spy mission? just communicate with the other side? nightmare's gang is the only redeemable thing about this au because their dynamics are so cute (and i'm a murder time trio + cross fan so i just think it's neat), but even they're kinda shallow sometimes. and also (thank you for this one kris) i thought that positivity and negativity were meant to coexist? there's absolutely NO reason, NONE, why the council couldn't just. get the other team into the meeting and talk it out with them?! it's so easy to solve your problems?? just use your tiny pea brains a little??? my frickingh god???? like literally all of this could have been solved if y'all just TALKED for once oml.

and now for my fourth, final, and largest gripe of all: IT'S SO OVERUSED. i'm not even talking about the balance itself, the plotlines for this au are all copypastes too! for example, error having to sit down with ink and tell him about the balance? ink getting upset about his ignorance? heard it at least five times, honey. what next, are they going to go and save the multiverse from your oc character who just so happens to be messing with everything? and maybe you'll become friends...... oR sOmEtHinG mOrE?

(great bricks, if i see the phrase 'friends..... or something more????.??.????' one more time i am going to rip myself apart.)

i will acknowledge that there are some original things out there, but most of the premises are still the same. and in most of these ink and the council are absolute jerks for no reason at all. please. please please please i'm so tired. if i see one more thing about error jumping into the void istg i will jump with him. (sorry i ran out of steam here but you get what i mean right? the balance is everywhere!)

anyway tldr: screw the balance. it doesn't make sense and it's been milked to hell and back.

FGOD!Error Meets Ccino: Worldbuilding

The multiverse that FGOD!Error ends up in is a modern-ish one, one where there aren't any Alternate Universes like in his multiverse. In other words, characters(mainly the many versions of Sans) that are usually separated from each other by being in another universe are all in the same universe.

Name of the city this story takes place in is Monsterville. The multiverse is called Tranquillum.(name from @jann-the-bean)

Characters that will be in the story:

Ccino- He runs his own cat cafe, though he inherited the cafe from his parents. It wasn't originally a cat cafe, just a normal cafe that he saved enough money to transform it into a cat cafe. He really enjoys this, as it was his dream job. His parents had unfortunately died in a car crash when he was in his last year in high school, it was nobody's fault. It was a rainy night, and they unintentionally took a turn too fast, which caused then to hit a tree a bit too hard. The impact had killed both of them, if not instantly, then very soon after. It had sent him into a depressive point in his life, one that he still struggles with, though he's had some success in dealing with it over time. That doesn't mean he doesn't have bad days, though. He is a generally happy person, especially when he's working in his cafe, even if he sometimes overworks himself(it actually happens more often than he would admit). You wouldn't guess he was shy from how friendly he is while he's working, but he is quite shy around others. He's just good at keeping it cool when he's working.

Error(from this multiverse)- He owns a clothing store, and makes the clothes himself since he is really good at knitting/sewing. He hired some people to deal with customers, as he's not very good in crowded places, the crowds give him anxiety. His clothing store is fairly popular due to how well-made and durable the clothes he makes are. He was able to deal with customers when he was starting out, as there weren't many people coming in, but as word about his store spread, more people came. He has haphephobia due to something that happened to him in his childhood, but he's managed to overcome it a little, he's able to tolerate handshakes and some small amounts of contact with others, but he's most comfortable around Geno, with Fresh being a close second.(They're brothers) His glitches are something he's always had, and while they're not dangerous for him, they don't really help with his haphephobia. They don't hurt, but it's uncomfortable when someone he doesn't know touches him.

Ink- He is an art teacher at a high school, and does some art on the side that he sells(basically commissions). He's a bit scatter-brained and forgetful, but he does his best to help his students when they need help or are feeling discouraged with their art. He's also a bit clumsy- at least three times a day you'll hear him yelp as he accidentally trips over his own feet, and there's always some kind of paint stain on the floor at the end of the day. He throws up ink when he's too excited, it's a weird condition he has, but it's never affected his health in any way, so it just became normal for him. All his students freaked out when they first experienced this, as they thought he was dying. But they all find his eccentric behavior amusing and welcome among the general seriousness of the other teachers. He's always friendly to everyone he meets, too.

Geno- He's Fresh and Error's older brother. He works as a doctor, and is one of the kinder ones, the kind to be up-front with his diagnosing, yet caring. He wants his patients to get better, so that they don't have to keep relying on doctor trips if it's possible. He understands that sometimes it's necessary for some cases, but tries to make sure that they are taking care of themselves when they aren't in his care. He has a glitch covering his right eye, along with some small glitches that come and go along the rest of his body. As with Error, it wasn't harmful to him, but it wasn't uncomfortable for him to be in physical contact with others. He likes flowers, and occasionally goes to one of the florists to get flowers to spruce up his doctor's office. He happened to get to know the florist there, Reaper. They became friends over time(and maybe Geno got a crush), and he found out Reaper was quite the flirt. Geno tried not to let the flirty comments get to him, but he would always have a small blush afterwards. He's in a bit of denial over his feelings about him. Currently, they are good friends.

Classic- He is pretty much very similar to how we know Undertale Sans, kinda lazy, outgoing, has multiple jobs. His main job is a hotdog salesman, but does some small odd jobs every now and then. What is probably the most obvious difference between him and original Classic is his attitude towards everything. He may have depression, but it's solely because he had to grow up too fast to take care of his brother when they were kids. Their parents had died when they were young(Sans was 12, Papyrus was 8), and he had to make sure he and his brother had a roof over their heads once he was 18. They were in an orphanage until then, and they didn't have the best time there. But now they're pretty happy with their lives as they are now. He's very proud, yet sometimes worried, that his bro joined the local police force. But he knows his bro really wanted to join, and he's been very supportive of him.

Blue- He's a police officer, and one of the best ones to defuse a tense situation that would've led to a shootout or other unwanted situations. He's become best friends with Papyrus, Undyne, and Valkyrie(US!Alphys), who are also in the police force. If you see him out of his uniform, he's more carefree and outgoing. He acts as if he's not a police officer a lot when he's off-duty, and because of this, people don't suspect it. And even some of the people who know him sometimes forget he's an officer with how not-serious he can be. He's very kind, but won't take any sh*t when he sees someone being unnecessarily rude to others(he will definitely step in if he sees a Karen harassing any employees). He's incredibly sassy, too, which always surprises everyone(and I mean everyone, best friends, family, anyone who ends up being the target for his sass). He also became friends with Cross, who is now a veteran who returned from the field recently due to a severe injury.

Reaper- He's the owner of a florist shop that's fairly popular. He named it The Black Rose(the black rose can be associated with death, I looked it up). He prefers wearing darker clothes, mostly black cloaks/robes. He sometimes would change it up with other colors that are kinda bright, but not neon bright. He will wear those Hawaiian shirts on rare occasions, he secretly loves them, but really loves wearing the darker clothes. He loves messing with people, it always throws them off when they notice him among all the colorful flowers, he stands out with the contrasting colors. When Geno first comes into his store, he didn't think much of it, just another customer. Eventually, after several more visits, Reaper starts thinking of Geno as a friend. Reaper is a natural flirt, he'll flirt with anyone after a couple of visits(everyone always comes back at least once more after their first visit). He'll back off if he notices that the person is truly uncomfortable with it, though. He's pretty good at reading people's body language. He's also careful not to go too far, he knows when to cut it back. He ended up having a crush on Geno somewhere along the way, and doesn't want to push Geno into anything, as he's unsure if Geno would want to pursue anything. So they both have crushes on the other, but don't say anything for different reasons. They are currently good friends, though.

Fresh- He's a well-known comedian who works with Epic, another comedian. They travel around the country, but tend to come back to Monsterville more often, partially because Fresh wants to check in with his brothers(Error and Geno). Epic checks in with Cross(friends since high school) and hangs with him in his downtime. Fresh does talk in 90s lingo, but mostly on set, it makes his jokes a bit more unique. He otherwise talks normally, unless he decides he wants to mess with others. He doesn't like it when others swear around him, and still retains the ability to censor swear words like his original counterpart. He had a problem with feeling emotions when he was growing up. He could feel emotions, but they were muted, in a way. He'd still feel them, but they were duller, almost to the point where it felt like he wasn't feeling anything. He was able to feel emotions fully later on in his teenage years, though.

Epic- He's also a comedian(as mentioned above). He travels with Fresh around the country, and he plans their comedy routines(to an extent, they sometimes do things on impulse). He was in the comedian business for a few years before meeting Fresh, and took him on as a co-comedian when he found out about Fresh's sense of humor. He and Fresh met sometime after high school at a comedy club with his brothers. Fresh kinda dragged them there as a way to let them relax(they were both in college, and had passed their first exam, which was very stressful for them). Fresh and Epic became good friends during over the course of the night, even going to more comedy shows, sometimes Geno and Error came along. He's very good friends with Cross, who he met in high school during his sophomore(10th) year. Epic was very grateful for his friendship with Fresh when Cross was shipped out for deployment. He really missed Cross, they were very close in high school. Fresh helped him with the stress he felt when he got worried for Cross. When Cross came back from his second deployment from a severe injury, he canceled the show he and Fresh had the next day to go check on him. He stayed as long as he could during visiting hours, even though Cross wasn't awake. During that first visit, he cried for his best friend, wanting nothing but to just be there when he woke up. It was on his second visit the next day that Cross woke up. Epic cried again, but with a bittersweet smile. He was there to help comfort him when Cross was told he lost his leg, and to help him cope with it. He brought Fresh one day to introduce him, as Cross hadn't met him yet.

Cross- He is a veteran of war, he's had two deployments, the second of which he sustained a severe injury. It costed him his right leg, it had to be amputated. It was dusting, and it would have killed him if the doctors let it spread. He was compensated by the military, which paid for the recovery period and helps pay for the custom prosthetic and the therapy it needed to help him learn how to walk in it. He didn't take losing his leg too well, but he knew there wasn't anything he could do about it. He learned how to move with his prosthetic fairly quickly, even with the difficulties that comes along. He still does have issues with it, as it's still kinda recent. He met Blue when he was out for shopping, he was still having trouble with walking, even with crutches to aid him. Blue was going to a meet up with his friends on his day off, but he noticed Cross and offered to help him. Cross was a bit stubborn, but relented after a while. He and Blue talked on the way to the grocery store, and even while Cross did his shopping with help from Blue(who insisted on continuing to help, he texted his friends that he'll be late or make up for his absence next time). Over time, he and Blue would meet on a fairly regular basis, talking about their experiences and Cross told him of the places he'd been to on his deployments.

Horror- He's a part-time chef and also works at the local high school as the lunch person. He's planning on being a five-star chef, and is working his way up slowly, yet surely. He has a hole in his skull, like his original, but it's something he was born with, unfortunately. It's not as jagged as the original Horror's, though. The hole in his skull causes some memory issues sometimes, he'll forget some details throughout the day. He remembers anything about food, though, so he decided that's what he'll focus on. He also has a soft spot for kids, which is why he wanted to work at the school cafeteria. He also grew up in another city that was going through a bit of a famine, so his family had to ration what food they were able to get. He grew up slightly malnourished, and didn't want other kids to go through that. He's good friends with Killer and Dust, who he grew up with. When he and his family moved out of that town when he was a teen, they came with. They were a bit older than him, and they had managed to get jobs as mercenaries shortly before Horror moved. They had wanted to have a home nearby to where Horror lived. They might as well have been brothers with how close they were, which Horror was very happy for, as he is an only child. He didn't become a mercenary like they did, mostly because he didn't really like violence, even though he supports them.

Killer- He and Dust knew each other since they were kids in the orphanage in the city Horror lived in before moving. They were orphaned as babybones, and had a somewhat rough time growing up there. Killer had the rougher time, as his lack of eyelights scared other kids in the orphanage, and the older kids picked on him and blamed him for things he didn't do. Dust was the only one who stuck up for him. Currently, he and Dust are mercenaries, though they have side jobs for when their services aren't required. They work at fast food restaurants. Killer is a playful flirt when he isn't working as a mercenary, where he's seen as emotionless. He really isn't, but he has been able to detach from his emotions, though not always at will. Sometimes he enters the state of emotionless unwillingly, which usually causes him to kinda, shut down? He stops responding to anyone or anything when that happens. Dust knows this happens, and knows to just make sure he's somewhere safe when it happens. This was something he was born with, it was discovered when the orphanage took him to the doctor, and they found out that his SOUL wasn't completely able to process emotions all the time, and is also the reason he doesn't have eyelights. He and Dust visit Horror as often as they can, whether it be at the restaurant he works in, the school cafeteria, or his home. They don't all live in the same house, but they stayed close.

Dust- Dust used to have an imaginary friend he called Phantom when he was young. He no longer believes in imaginary friends, but he named a crow Phantom. He saved it when it was barely a juvenile, it was injured after a storm the night prior. It chose to stay with him, and it was free to leave whenever it wanted. Phantom left a few times, but always came back. He had brought back his own murder(crows), which also stayed nearby. Killer had also become friends with Phantom and the others, which pleased Dust because he didn't want Phantom or the other crows thinking Killer was an intruder. Horror eventually also got acquainted with Dust's murder(crows) that followed him around.

Dream- He's a therapist. He always wanted to help people, and had found that he's very good at listening to people. He and his twin brother, Nightmare, are close, but have been very busy in their lines of work. They do try to have one day to relax with each other, though. He specializes in minor trauma and depression related cases, he'll try helping those who have more severe trauma, but he always recommends a therapist who would be of greater help to them. He knows he's limited when it comes to knowledge about the more severe trauma, and doesn't have the resources to help. One of his clients is Cross, who he helps with some of the PTSD that came with the war and the loss of his leg. He's not fully able to help him completely, but Cross still schedules appointments with him sometimes. Cross does go to another therapist for the more serious problems of it, though, so he does get the proper help he needs.

Nightmare- Nightmare is a lawyer. He's been bullied as a kid, and grew up seeing how the innocent people either getting blamed by the true culprit, or how the culprit gets away with whatever they did while the innocent live in fear of if the culprit will return. That's why he went into law school, to stand up for the innocents, and make sure that the criminal is caught and properly punished for their crime. He's strong physically, as he learned self defense as a teen with his brother, who also took lessons. Dream wasn't naive about the world, and knew that not everyone was kind. The town they grew up in was a rather bad town, too. They kept to themselves there in the town they grew up in, and didn't start any trouble. He became one of the best lawyers in Monsterville, where he and Dream moved to when they attended college for their respective courses. He does lose cases occasionally, but has won the majority of the cases he takes. He also has a condition that makes him covered in goop and grow tentacles. He's had it since he was born, but it didn't make itself known until he was in high school. It had happened unexpectedly, and it had hurt him a lot, the tentacles having broken his ribs when they emerged. His right eye was also damaged, but the doctors saved it mostly. The doctors told him that they had to surgically re-arrange his ribs because this condition will keep on breaking those ribs every time it acts up. His right eye is partially blind, and completely blind when the goop covers it, but they managed to keep it from being permanently blinded whenever it happens. He had been understandably shocked by this new information, but he learned to live with it. Dream was worried about him, but when he learned that it wasn't fatal, even though he'll have it his whole life, he was relieved. So was Nightmare, he didn't want to leave Dream alone. He almost didn't get into college or his law firm because of it, but proved that it didn't hinder his ability to work.

Characters who are from the Unbalanced Multiverse:

FGOD!Error- Is rather stone-faced unintentionally, living so long while being attacked for doing his job. He hates having to kill so many people and destroying universes, and especially hates hurting kids. Though he thinks he looks a bit too intimidating, others are able to see just how broken he looks, it's not as hidden as he thinks. He still does look intimidating, but people will be able to tell he's had a harsh life. He will be very jumpy around anyone who looks like his attackers(would be seen as abusers to anyone else if told even a slight amount of what's been done to him), especially Ink. After everything, he's absolutely afraid of Ink, but what he's even more afraid of, is Fate. Fate is the whole reason he even exists, and the reason he can't die. Is surprisingly kind and good around kids(even if he thinks he's unsafe for children to be around). When he enters the new multiverse, he's unconscious, his wounds too much for him. Ccino's the one who finds him on a grocery run. Ccino takes him in and does his best to nurse him back to health, or at least make sure his bones don't fall off at the slightest movement. The story goes on with Erratum learning how to live, with a café owner as his guide.

Hipno- He grew up in a black market type of place, where the bandits used him and his aura for money. They forced him to kill those they saw fit, through his aura that forces others to dance. He'd been stuck there for 24 years, but one day, through the carelessness of a driver, he managed to escape. He opened a portal, and it brought him to the outskirts of Monsterville. He eventually realized that the bandits couldn't get him here, and started living a normal life, or at least as normal a life that he could. He also finally learned how to control his aura, and was at least less traumatized about it as well. He eventually opened up a dance studio, where he's the dance instructor. He's not as jumpy and paranoid as he used to be as well. He lives in the apartment above the dance studio. He had heard of Error from his multiverse, but due to not being able to even leave his captivity, never even saw him. He frequents Ccino's cat cafe to relax after work.

How magic works in this multiverse:

- Most people have magic, even humans, but it's only tolerable as a means of everyday life, not aggressively. The only case where it is okay to use aggressive magic is if you're defending yourself or others from danger.

- Teleportation isn't very common, and there is a limit in place for when and where teleportation is allowed. For example, you can't teleport into or out of a public restroom, someone's house(unless you're invited), can't teleport into the middle of restaurants(but can teleport into the main waiting area, which is marked by the staff), etc.

- Healing magic is pretty common, but the strength of the magic varies from person to person. Geno's healing magic is good, but not top of the line. He only really uses it if the issue isn't able to be treated later on. Ccino also has healing magic, but it's less potent than Geno's.

- Fresh is the only one who's able to alter other's speech slightly, or at least the only known person who can do that. The only limit for this type of magic is to not use it to force others to say things they don't mean, and to not use it to incriminate others or get out of trouble.

I decided to make a new post for the worldbuilding, as I wanted to have it all in one place. So here's everything for my FGOD!Error story. Other than the names of the cities that Horror, Killer, and Dust, and Dream and Nightmare(who are from a different city than the other three) came from. Oh, and as for Nightmare, I couldn't decide if he should only be in his Passive form or goopy form, so decided to make his goopy form a rare medical condition. It can "flare up" and make him his typical goopy octopus form we all know, but it can subside and return him into his "Passive" self. Thus why the doctors needed to rearrange his ribs, the tentacles would only keep breaking them if they were kept in their usual place. It does mean he has some back issues, but it's not too bad, and he can still work even when he's goopy. He is a slight bit more irritable in the goopy form, though.

CONCLUSION OF THE INK TOURNAMENT'S FIRST ROUND

Greetings all! The votes have been counted and they are in. Let's see who has advanced.. Spritz!Ink shooed Minuscule!Ink away, getting 55.6% of the votes. Minuscule!Ink gained 44.4% of the votes. 81 users voted.

Empireverse!Ink managed to defeat Cult!AU Ink, though the latter seemed to be too busy drawing chickens to actually do anything to win votes. EV!Ink defeated Cult!AU Ink 58.2% to 41.8%. 141 users voted.

FTFO!Ink won the attention and adoration from the voters, despite FGOD!Ink's determination to get by. FTFO!Ink won 59.4% to 40.6%. 219 people voted.

Similar to that of Cult!AU Ink's demeanor, TSS!Ink was too busy drawing to focus on the competition. Moonblossom!Ink gained the voter's attention with his gadgets and gizmos he brought from his shop, bribing them with free products in exchange for votes. He beat TSS!Ink 58.1% to 41.9%. 86 people voted.

The original Ink, never faulting, swept Pale!Ink, 83.5% to 16.5%. 97 users voted. Everyone loves his energy!

Vantablack's admirers never fail him, winning him a spot in the next round and leaving Scar!Ink in the dust. Rumor has it, he left some mysteriously dark paint behind. Vantablack beat Scar!Ink 62.5% to 37.5%. 72 users voted.

Gaster!Ink, with all his wit, defeated Fell!Ink 58.3% to 41.7%. 72 users voted. He was determined to set a good example.

The love many have for Fresh!Ink definitely showed when he went up against Outer!Ink. The former won 62% to 38%. 79 users voted. And with that being said, the new matchups have now been revealed!

Ok so I told my friend from Gorl77777 in wattpad that I made a new version of fresh like his look and action are the same but his back story is different..like a new fresh kinda how harrish6 mad the fgod error, well now you got fcorrptor fresh -w-

As a young Skelton fresh was into 90s anything! He lived the 90s and nothing but the 90s. One day as fresh was walking home he heard a noise from the alleyway he knew it's dangerous but he whent on anyways. He was attack by this parasite. This parasite had leach onto fresh and had use fresh for geting souls.

Fresh would go to AUs and fine anysoul and kill the body and take the soul and feed the parasite. He didn't want to do this..he never ask for this..the parasite would control fresh if fresh didn't obey it. The parasite even told fresh that no one would care or love him and he would be alone forever because of the parasite. And that's why fresh never feel..he didn't want feeling making everything worse so...he band them away and the parasite help make sure he didn't feel again..until..

OKAY NOW I AM MAKING A STORY SO I AM NOT GOING TO FINISH IT BECAUSE THEN I WILL END UP MAKING A STORY ;-; but that's his back story ^^
