Hi 👋
I took this ask as an invitation to figuratively dive into Richard's coat closet, and tried to compile every coat he wore in the last 30 years.
And oh boy, this man surely loves a good coat. He's the one member of this band who consecutively wore a coat on almost every tour and really takes a liking in the dramaturgical effect of wearing long (often times dark in color) coats and later reveiling additional outfits underneath, especially in later years. It fits his somewhat dramatic stage presence and he started quite early with these kind of stage outfits!
I subdevided this overview in two sub-topics to give this post somewhat of a structure, because this will be long.
1.) Richard's coats on stage (organized by year and tour)
1.1) Firstly, the plain black coat from the Herzeleid tour which he wore in 1995/1996. It's from what I could find the first time he wore a coat on stage while playing for Rammstein.
Tumblr media
1.2) Addtionally, he wore the shiny red and silver coat during the Herzeleid tour as well as partly on the Sehnsucht tour in 1997. Same as the black coat before, he forwent any additional outfit underneath.
Tumblr media
1.3) Also on the Sehnsucht tour, Richard wore the somewhat futuristic (reminded me a little bit of Star Treck costumes) black and silver coat which is clearly visible in Live aus Berlin. It suited the whole style of this era quite nicely and fit into the vibe of Till's cyborg/futuristic jacket as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.4) For his outfit during the Reise Reise tour in 2004/2005, Richard settled for a black military-style coat. The button rows seem to be reminiscent of french military uniforms from the 17th and 18th century (as well as the button lines and the embroidery on the collar of the underjacket) and his pants were designed in a similar style. The lining of the coat is bright red, a theme which would occur numerous times over the years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.5) During the LIFAD tour, Richard wore a grey-mottled coat made out of a somewhat leathery material, adorned with silver buttons and a red armband - again he incorporated a red element in this coat, just like with the one before. On a sidenote: He once mentioned that Michael Jackson was an inspiration for this armband because Richard liked the cool look of it - his leg-belts (visible in the right picture) also kind of resemble the harness Michael wore on stage and in some videos during his Bad era.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.6) An absolute personal favourite of mine: The studded coat Richard chose for the 2013 part of the Made in Germany tour, oftentimes paired with the torn black and red top underneath. This one also got red lining, as well as a fine red line near the cuffs of the coat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.7) In 2016 for the Festival tour, Richard wore coat in a more cosy and snuggly style, which marked a break in the clean cut coat-aesthetic up to this point. It was more in the style of a cardigan with a zipper instead of buttons. The armband made a reappearance as the signature red element (mirrored by a red band on his pants), and red lines along the seams added this colourful accent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.8) For the 2019 tour leg of the Stadium tour, Richard mixed things up by wearing a two piece combo made out of a leathery material, with a studded cap on the right shoulder and red elements in form of the usual arm band and a red folding in the front. The lower part of this outfit was removable, so the upper part remained as a jacket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.9) In 2022, he wore an all black coat with a belt and flaps along the shoulders, as well as snap fasteners as buttons; it overall resembled the typical look of a trenchcoat and seemed less rigid then the previous ensemble.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.10) A true fandom favourite appeared on the scene in 2022 when he presented the infamous chicken coat. This one was already known from the "Freeze my mind" music video (from 2021) from Richard's side project and other band Emigrate. Different than in the music video, where a vest completed the look, Richard again after years went on stage without any outfit under it. This coat was used by him also during this year's tour leg.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.11) Another personal favourite of mine is the black coat with red lining which he wore during this year's tour. Affectionatly dubbed "the vampire coat", this coat appears to be quite clean cut and simple, but has a very nice and dramatic effect on him (choosing gifs this time to underline this sentiment).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.) Richard's coats off stage
Here are some of the coats Richard wore off stage during band fotoshoots and outings. Not counting normal jackets or parcas here.
2.1) The fur-lined coat during the Rosenrot fotoshooting:
Tumblr media
2.2) The reoccuring black coat with fluffy fur elements, worn by him while being presented with awards in 2005 in Berlin as well as during the Echo award show in 2009:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.3) He wore another black coat which looked pretty similar to the one before but is still slightly different during a signing in Paris 2004:
Tumblr media
2.4) And a brown/beige kind of trenchcoat was his style of choice for the Fashion rock night in 2009:
Tumblr media
2.5) During the outdoor shooting for the LIFAD album, Richard wore another black coat:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.6) And lastly, the fancy embroidered coat Richard chose for promotion pictures for (I think) his first album with his band Emigrate:
Tumblr media
Not sure if I was thouroughly enough and found every coat he ever wore, but I think the presented ones here really express his love for this piece of clothing in general 😊 I'm looking forward to either seeing a new coat on Richard next year or a return of his vampire coat 🦇 (Still hoping to see the studded coat someday again).
(Used picture sources: Rammwiki and the Rammsteinworld gallery - wonderful rabbit holes to get lost in.)

I MADE ANOTHER ONE
Tumblr media
Process under cut
So first of all, hello again! Some of you might remember the time i embroidered Gojo over half a year ago! I wanted to do Sukuna now and even tho i started back in september i was not able to finish this bastard sooner bc of uni. Anyway, here's the process:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Coppied the outlines from the manga and embroidered them. The face was really delicate to get right bc a slightly misplaced stitch could change his whole expression. I lost a lot of nerves here.. I also had to figure out which lines of the face and hair to keep and which to toss bc i wasn't going to be able to embroider every detail at such a small scale
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then just filled everything in. That's always the easy part, still time consuming tho!
I also changed the way "do your best man" is arranged in the speech bubble bc i noticed with Gojo's embroidery that the manga text looks a little too small if it's embroidered exactly as it's written. That's why that speech bubble also looks a little wonky, but i try not to judge it too much!
All in all i'm happy that it's done, but a little dissatisfied with the end result. I was probably holding myself up to higher standards than i can achieve at this moment. So it's fine. This is just gonna hang in my room and not meant to be a gift, so who cares! It was a fun project!

A Kings Gamble
Benitoite palace corridors at night.
King Alfio slowly strode through the palace corridors unable to sleep due to the week's events.
This whole damn week has been nothing but a headache. Where the hell did that damn dog get the idea to bare his fangs at me like that! Valerio to! I never thought he'd take that damn dogs side like he has & Lidia! I mean I get that she was ecstatic at the idea of spending more time together, we haven't had that kind of time for ourselves since I was named successor. How the hell does that damn dog even know how important that sort of thing is!? That woman certainly didn't teach him, all she knew was selfish desires.
As King Alfio was turning a corner he paused as he spied Lady Emma standing there staring out a window. He ducked back behind the bend just enough to stay out of sight but still allow him to see her.
This young lady, Lidia already likes her and Valerio has done nothing but sing her praises. Valerio can say he doesn't love her all he wants but does he really think I can't recognize it! I'm not that old and doddering to have forgotten. What tricks did that damn dog use to get into her...
The faint sound of jangling cut off King Alfios thoughts and he saw Silvio coming around the corner at the far end of the corridor.
She doesn't even seem to notice that damn dog comming, is she really that unaware of her surroundings or ...
King Alfio was about to turn and leave when he caught a glimpse of something in Silvio's eyes that made him change his mind. He watched as Silvio approached Lady Emma from behind and gently wrapped his arms around her waist.
Silvio: What are you doing out here by yourself starin off like that!?
Emma: Silvio! You shouldn't be holding me like this here, what if someone comes by and sees us!
King Alfio noticed that despite her words Lady Emma leaned back into Silvio's embrace.
Silvio: So let em your my woman so it's fine, and don't go tryin to change the subject! You shouldn't be wandering around alone like this especially at night what if something happened to you or you got lost?
Emma: It's a straight line back to my room! I'm sorry I worried you though.
Silvio: I wasn't worried! If you're gonna start makin a habit of wandering off though maybe I should put a bell on your collar.
Emma: Try it and I swear I'll bite you!
Silvio: Ha! I ain't lettin you do that a third time, besides...
Ha! Serves you right you damn dog being bitten by your own prey! I'm starting to like her better...
King Alfio watched as Silvio left his mark on Lady Emma's neck and it brought to mind several memories of Lidia and himself.
Silvio: That wasn't the deal you offered originally. You don't wanna bell you gotta make a new deal with me.
Emma: If you think you can keep getting me to let things go by doing stuff like that...
King Alfios expression softened slightly as he watched Silvio lift Lady Emma into his arms.
I don't think I've ever seen that dog look so happy, delighted? No those aren't right...
Silvio: I love it when you're sassy but I love it even more when you're like this Emma.
Emma: Silvio, I love you too.
Silvio: Ya I know, but keep sayin it.
King Alfio watched as Silvio carried Lady Emma to her room and chuckled softly when her door was kicked in before turning back and heading the way he had come.
King Alfio: I know that look all too well.
King Alfio sighed and Lidia's words from days ago came back to him.
Queen Lidia: Alfio you should know better than anyone that true love can cause miracles.
Kingo Alfio gently kicked open his bedroom door. Sitting on the sofa working on some embroidery project was his Queen, the woman he had worked so hard for. Queen Lidia turned to him and smiled so dazzlingly at him his breath momentarily caught.
Queen Lidia: Alfio! Are you all right? You look as if you're going over and over an important deal.
King Alfio: Not a deal Lidia a gamble.
Queen Lidia: A gamble? Alfio are you still fretting over naming Silvio your successor? As I already said I truely do believe everything will work out fine. Silvio has many accomplishments & with the support of Valerio and Lady Emma I'm even more certain he'll be an excellent King.
King Alfio: Dammit Lidia I know all that!
King Alfio slumped onto the sofa and sighed, a comfortable silence fell between them as Queen Lidia waited him out.
King Alfio: I saw them tonight, that damn dog and Lady Emma.
Queen Lidia: You're surprised to see them together Alfio?
King Alfio: Yes, no I mean...
King Alfio trailed off trying to find the right words. Queen Lidia set aside her embroidery hoop and took his hand in hers.
Queen Lidia: Then what is it?
King Alfio: ..Us
Queen Lidia: Alfio don't mumble..
King Alfio: They reminded me of us!
King Alfio sighed again and ran his free hand through his hair before continuing.
King Alfio: This whole week I've been wondering about quite a lot of things. One that bothered and honestly surprised me the most was that damn dogs conviction when he talked about us spending more time together. I can't deny he's smart enough to know our relationships different to most especially within the royal court but the strength behind his words...
Queen Lidia smiled bright and knowingly as she waited for King Alfio to continue.
King Alfio: The way she reacted to his touch, the way she smiled at him, the way she sassed him. Hell he even called her by her name! Nothing was more telling though then that look in their eyes.
Queen Lidia: That look?
King Alfio: That look you can only get from true love. I know that look very well after all these years, and I saw it earlier tonight. Not just in Silvio's gaze but reflected back at him in Lady Emma's as well. I never thought I'd see a day when any of my children looked at someone like that least of all it being Silvio!
Queen Lidia: It took you long enough to realize it Alfio.
King Alfio: Lidia...
Queen Lidia: I told you days ago...
King Alfio: I know Lidia you don't have to rub it in!
Queen Lidia laughed as she kissed King Alfio on the cheek.
King Alfio: He's still a bastard, especially for breaking Valerios heart like that! Though I suppose if Lady Emma hadn't fallen for Valerio in all that time she never would have. I think he'll keep on the right course though so long as he has her.
Queen Lidia: Yet you still think it's a gamble?
King Alfio: Yes but now that I know the type of cards he's playing with I know it's not just a gamble he can win but that the whole nation will profit from.
King Alfio turned to face Queen Lidia and as he gazed at her smiling face that oh so familiar look was all over her, the same one he saw on Silvio and Lady Emma earlier. That look of pure unadulterated joy that only comes from true love.

Oooo 14, 28, 33
14. what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do? OH BOY I am saving this question to give to my therapist the next time I see her, because I just like. Fully bluescreened for a minute after reading it haha. (The concepts of "always wanted to" and "been scared of but still wanted to do" are uhhh challenging for me). But! After much consideration, I think we can put "relearn to ride a bike" in this category. I was taught as a kid, but I have a vivid memory of saying "I'm doing it!" and then immediately falling over and that's...the last I remember of the bike learning process. It wasn't exactly useful as a means of transportation where I grew up, and there were other more fun ways to get exercise, so I just...didn't. Now that I live in a place where there are more opportunities, it would be nice to know how, but the fear of falling hasn't diminished and in fact has probably gotten worse as I've aged.
28. do you collect anything? Not precisely on purpose, but I have acquired a steady stream of enamel pins and buttons (particularly union buttons) over the past few years. Most of the union buttons would expose a little more info about me than I necessarily want to put on Tumblr, but here is a selection that lives on one of my jackets:
Tumblr media
33. any hobbies? The short answer here is "SO MANY". Long answer, I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to certain categories of hobby, which are:
fiber crafts - Crochet and hand sewing (particularly mending) are my favorites, but over the years I have tried my hand at quilting, knitting, spinning, embroidery, needle felting, and probably a few others I've forgotten
visual/fine arts - drawing and painting (watercolor) are my favorites, but I have played around with most kinds of paint and various forms of sculpture. I actually majored in art but I kinda knew the whole time that I didn't see it as a professional plan, just something I wanted to learn more about. I've also been doing a lot of digital painting over the past few years, which is entirely self-taught.
writing - fanfic! Original fic! Poetry! Filk! Several attempts at novels have also been made, I spent a number of years working on longform projects before I got into writing fanfic and realized short form writing (for a given value of "short") is a little more manageable.
TTRPGs - I'm in two different tabletop roleplaying groups (one online for DnD, one in-person for the Marvel Super Heroes RPG)
Music - I joined a local labor choir last year and it has become one of my favorite things. "Choir" is a bit of a misnomer, but there's not a more concise word for "ragtag group of folks who hang out and sing union and anti-fascist songs together for two hours a week, who WILL show up at your protest, rally, or picket line if you tell us about it" haha. We actually are working on some more formal choral arrangements for upcoming May Day festivities, but at any given practice we're just as likely to go on a "songs about public transit" or "how many different languages can we sing in tonight" deep dive.

Let's upcycle this wool skirt I made a few years ago:
Tumblr media
It's one of the first things I ever made, and it was part of a Hobbit kit I don't really wear anymore. It's not super well made, but I could really use an orange wool skirt so I figured I redo some of it and incorporate it into my regular wardrobe.
Tumblr media
The most important thing will be to redo the waistband and that weird closing situation. I don't really like how bulky the drawstring waist looks, so I'm going to unpick it and replace it with a fitted waistband and a button closure. I don't remember how I ended up with this weird lacing situation, but it doesn't look great, so it's gonna go and I'll open the side seam down to the pocket to put more buttons. I have a piece of linen that I figure will be fine to make plaquettes and line the waistband (I want it bigger, and while I still have some of this fabric left, it is itchy and I don't want it on the inside here.
While I'm at it, I'll also redo the hem, which is also not great. Turning the hem and doing the ribbon thing will look better that the bulky double turned hem I have now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was also pretty careless about how I stored this skirt, and the orange has faded on several places, very likely because of the sun. I'm thinking about making it less noticeable by putting embroidery on top. I haven't decided yet what motifs to use, or what colors (either a 3 to 4 autumnal colors, or just a similar orange to get a textured effect). I'll be doing the sewing first anyway, so I have time to make up my mind.
Side note: while this skirt is full of mistakes and questionable decisions, it is in fact not that bad for an early project I basically winged with the confidence of someone who has seen a ton of youtube videos and made very few things. When you look at your old projects, remember a beginner made them. I'm sure you'll find they are in fact pretty cool.

Over the last few weeks I bound my first fic! And what better choice to start out with than "I just want your extra time (and your kiss)" by my good friend @transmascsteveharrington. I was so excited to hand over the final result on New Years Eve in person! 💖
I started with proofreading and then layouting the whole fic, selecting a font that was dyslexia friendly, and adding sufficient space between paragraphs. Despite not being 50k words, the bound fic arrives at over 160 pages. Then I printed, folded, and sewed the pages together before procrastinating taking it to the copy shop to get the edges straightened for about 6 weeks before continuing to work on this project in a panic just before Christmas.
So far, I only know how to make half cloth covers, so I selected a nice dark blue and matching baby blue and seafoam coloured papers for the cover, in order to create a polo shirt look as a homage to Steve Harrington. I fashioned a "collar" and "button boarder" out of paper and then added the buttons and "seams" (dotted lines drawn with matching fine liners). Then I designed and printed the Family Video Name Tag with the second part of the title, glued it onto a piece of cardboard to give it an actual badge-like effect, and glued it to the front. I had added a matching blue headband and seafoam tail band before starting on the cover.
For Eddie Munson's denim vest, I repurposed an old pair of jeans. By aid of a paper prototype, I fashioned a cutting pattern and then hemmed and attached the pieces by hand - I embarked on this project without access to a sewing machine. I decided to leave the "arm holes" to fray. I added the chest pocket onto which I wrote the first part of the title, three decorative buttons, two functional press buttons, a little chain in the back and the author's name in hand-embroidery.
All in all, I'm very proud of how it turned out!
In progress pics beneath the cut.

Cubfan but magical girl. Inspired by the lovely @theminecraftbee and their wonderful Magical Scar au. Btw, I went a tiny bit insane making this.
Ramblings below :3
Bee this au of yours is so lovely. I love the themes you've decided to tackle and even if you've said that this is not the type of fics you'd write it's been wonderful reading your ramblings. It make me feel like I'm reading a meta post for a real show/anime. So thanks for the inspiration :D
Design choices.
Bee said that Cub would be practical so thought to myself what dress can he move freely in, tutu??? He has a gun holster on his legs, it was hidden so I didn't bother to draw it. But Bee also said the tutu is removable so 👀👀👀 maybe my next project???
Then I went, corsets!!! This man needs em. I wanted to put a ferret embroidery/symbolism thingie but then I got lazy and just went ham with some squiggly lines.
And also I want to ask, I know Scar has a bracelet thingie and Grian has a feathered earrings. What does Cub have???
I imagined Cub to be elegant and classy so pearl earings for him. Maybe the next iteration will display more whites, I think I've made his colour palette a bit dark.
And now we go to the problem.
Fine, I'll admit it idk how to render. And I tried, god knows I tried 😭😭😭 but I learned so much in the last week or so. So the colours might be a bit funky, maybe the next time I draw him again I'll get it right. I tried doing this 3x btw.
Below is the sketch because I like it...
Tumblr media
Then the flats with a bit of a blush
Tumblr media
Then the black n white version
Tumblr media
Because here we can see how wack my values are. This is what I have been trying to understand, values. It harder than I thought it was. In the end, I sort of gave up. :P
Anyways if anyone got more questions, feel free to hit me up. I think I've forgotten some stuff. It's a bit late for my time so I maybe a wee bit sleep deprived, hahahaha.

2023 Music Recap
It’s the end of the year! Basically, anyway. And I wanted to share a musical recap for 2023 from rediscovering my love of live shows to sharing the three albums I heard for the first time that absolutely made my world better and got me through the rough spaces of this year. Feel free to share your own favorite live show or album :)
Live Show Extravaganza:
Taylor Swift - What can I say? The Eras tour was truly epic. I cried, I sang my heart out along with every person in the audience (except the dad in front of me who downed 6 hard seltzers throughout the show to cope 😂). Still have to watch the tour video and relive it all.
youtube
Muna - I was so ridiculously excited that they opened for T Swift and then they had a truncated set because of the weather. But! That meant they switched up their set and played my favorite along with “Silk Chiffon”!! (Anything But Me):
youtube
Nine Inch Nails/Ministry/Nitzer Ebb - This triple headliner was wild with a capital ‘W’. Aging dancing goths and everyone pogoing-up and down like an old school 90’s show. I’ll treasure the playlist I have from this one since NIN was what Myrs’s teenage rebellion sounded like. (Less Than):
youtube
Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service - Transatlanticism is pretty much my favorite album of all time, so this concert was truly amazing. I bawled during the title track. Absolutely wept. Getting to share it with a haladriel friend made it even better. And the Depeche Mode encore? Impeccable. (Transatlanticism live):
youtube
Pedro the Lion - The sound of my 20s to early 30s because I just couldn’t quit listening to it. As an exvangelical, his music is everything, and hearing him play the whole album live was unreal. (Rapture):
youtube
Nation of Language - 80s style synth pop!! And perfect synth pop at that. I named my first long-form Haladriel fic after this one. (Across That Fine Line). So good live, and the venue was tiny, so it was me near the front with a friend bopping and swaying all night long:
youtube
Michigander - their music is just fun, and I love that. Solid pop rock and a great live show that had the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs. (Stay Out of It):
youtube
Albums of the Year:
Frightened Rabbit’s “Midnight Organ Fight” - huge thanks to @rebelrebelwrites and @bad-surprise for introducing me to this album in their own playlists and mentionings this year. “While I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to earth” will probably be my next embroidery text project, and a vinyl recording is making its way into my brother’s arms as a holiday present. (Good Arms vs. Bad Arms live A/V club recording):
youtube
Hozier’s Unreal/Unearth - It was stressful as all hell, but I scored a ticket to see him when he comes to my city, and I just know there will be copious weeping and lip wobbling. This whole album is my favorite of his three, when I never expected it to top “Wasteland, Baby”. But so many songs scream fic material and are so beautiful and lush. Here’s my sing at the top of my lungs car song (Who We Are):
youtube
Ethel Cain’s Preacher’s Daughter - the utter vibes of this album are absolutely out of this world. Switches between the darkest and broodiest to americana to a track played in the opener to headliner switch at the Taylor Swift show. Just incredible. (Family Tree):

2023 year in review roundup
wow!! what a fucking year!!! goodbye and good riddance! happy first day of 2024!
this year i did 37 tuesdayposts! there were 53 tuesdays so that's about 70%! some of them were on fri/sat instead as shabbosposts but i think posting on tuesday or even monday does just work better for some fucking reason. maybe because friday and saturday are days that i am most likely to do New Activities for making/playing/watching/reading??? and so on monday or tuesday i can recap the just-finished weekend. shrug! we love tuesday so it's fine.
listening listened to all of twilight mirage and a little over half of partizan! shrieking shack podcast, just king things, well there's your problem, miscellaneous music (maneskin probably a notable winner in there)
reading a lot of little articles. a little tgcf. SO much fanfic. 'every heart a doorway' (bad). 'birthday of the world' le guin (good).
playing a little disco elysium. a little minecraft. a little nier automata. a little hadesgame. a LOT of pokemon go. and i got into magic the gathering this year!
watching a lot of youtube videos. so many gd youtube videos. evangelion, history of the world part ii, cunk on earth, vox machina animated series, cowboy bebop, first season of peaky blinders, the new tgcf donghua season!
making i did very little drawing/painting/illustration beyond life drawing a few times...however i was very prolific in crafting! i also theoretically made valentines gifts. i do not remember what they were tho lol.
fiber arts: i completed a big embroidery project (fermenting dregs album art hoodie), quantum shawl, mesh market bag, case for my knew laptop, finished that blue tank top even though i hate it, fixed the lining on my yellow knitted cowl, made a little knitted headphone top cover that i will probably redo differently, headband ear warmer for my roommate's mom, and FINALLY i just barely finished the scarf for my SO before the end of 2023!
print block carving: wristwatch print, gavelbocken holiday card print
misc/writing: some songxuexiao fencing au. some harrowhark abhorsen au. neocities website!
and so much pottery! this is all of it, barring the things i already gave away as presents before this photo (two pots and a little box and the little raven guy), but wow! that's so many fuckin object!
Tumblr media
misc what a fucking year. some bad! had to file a big car insurance claim! got really sick while abroad and that persisted for a long fucking time! mini summer breakdown! some good stuff too - passed quantum mechanics FOREVER good fucking bye, did my first successful academic conference, finally started feeling better around the end of the year! learned my lesson: it's not fuckin worth stressing yourself to death over, and also i can't just Be At Home Aimlessly for months any more. it's bad for my mental health.
reviewing 2023 resolutions and goals --> I’d love to start writing again and play more horn but we’ll see i basically didn't do any creative writing at all this year barring a few lines of fanfic ideas (the abhorsen/tlt crossover one) HOWEVER i READ a lot of fanfic to marinate in and i played a LOT more french horn!! i joined the little youth orchestra which is like, uber goofy, but it means ive been playing on a regular basis again!
--> I also wanna listen to more weird music, and invest in actually owning some files, especially for some of the lesser-known bands and through bandcamp and stuff i spent all year meaning to do this and kept pushing it off so it rolls over into next year.
--> I really want to kind of dial those [unhealthy coping mechanisms] back again, focus more on existing in Reality and more in each moment, which hopefully will also help with some of the skin picking and other anxious habits that resurfaced. maybe more yoga, maybe re-establishing a meditation process lol lmao. nah. but definitely rolling it over into 2024.
--> I would love to think more about my fashion and how I present myself too, and work on making and tailoring more of my clothing in general actually not bad! basically zero tailoring but i did a pretty good job wearing some cute outfits.
--> I’ve been pretty good about being active so I’d like to keep that up, I still can’t do a pull-up but maybe this is the year! (lol) I should also start doing some minor exercises for my shitty arthritis toes to keep those okay once again: lol lmao. health issues had me really regress in some of my gains goals. plus side is toes are doin pretty normal.
--> a lot of last year was kind of a wash regarding research so I’m really looking forward to refocusing on that and really getting things moving. oh it moved! in a good way! i'm making good progress and hopefully i will keep that momentum going!
--> finally! I want to get back to tabletop! I miss doing it so much! it fell by the wayside for me because of how busy and overwhelmed I was, especially this past fall semester, but I want to start running and playing games with my pals again a little! i should have been putting these in playing as i went oops. the tabletop group i've run was a little fallow this year due to at least half of our group, including myself, not being in Tabletop Mood but we've played a lot of res arcana and other such games instead.
i had a few other resolutions in my digital planner on my ipad that didn't go in the writeup last year: namely, practice languages more (i did practice my mandarin a little but did not really learn any hebrew or korean unfortunately) and establish a non-software component of my research (nope, not in the cards, but i'm hoping to do something else this summer to let me get better with physical data/setups), and finishing the masters degree requirements (that will be the end of this upcoming spring semester), but overall i really did hit most of my resolutions and goals! even with being ill for a while! (except the finances. i am simply not looking at them <3)
2024 resolutions and goals
definitely some rollover! i will format this to hopefully be a little easier to respond to next year:
- get back on a regular workout schedule: swimming 1x a week, weights once or twice a week. would like to try and work towards my One Pullup goal again. would also be cool to try and work towards a hand/headstand. - try and be more mindful. i'm going to continue the grief therapy but also think about meditating more, doing more yoga, and so on. - there's a gallery on main street that solicits work from local artists for bimonthy themed exhibitions and i really want to submit at least one thing to it this year! the one due by end of january is themed 'florals', and the one two months after that is 'layers', so i'd really like to submit something to one of those. - more weird art! use that big canvas i bought in literally 2022! paint!!! - finally put together that travel journal from korea & japan (and also scrapbook-ify the papers i have leftover in a pile from that) - also, maybe do current scrapbook a little different? might need a new binder at the very least. - hang up that expensive quilt i bought in august - speaking of quilt: do some hand quilting, english paper piercing! i have so much fucking fabric! - find a new apartment to move into that hopefully won't suck! - try to secure some sort of summer internship or project that will let me develop some new skillsets that i might not be getting with my current research - finish the masters degree - write...a paper? for the work i just presented??? - keep tweaking neocities and make some more pages - keep track of recipes this year as well in my making section
i might start a little spreadsheet this year to keep better track of all my stuff because i really did Not want to go through all my separate listening and reading sections and extract what i liked the most, etc. this post required me to first back up a few extra early tuesdayposts from this year to dreamwidth, and then skim all of them to accumulate the above, and that was kinda a pain. and i love an excuse to start a new spreadsheet.
we did it! happy 2024! i don't think i have anything else to add to this wrapup but if i think of something i'll tack it into the upcoming Normal Tuesdaypost tomorrow! good job good night and good luck everyone!

I was able to make these with only the embroidery floss I have at home, so some of the colours aren't the best, but they turned out fine. I think my favourites are the yellow yak and pink parrot
Tumblr media
slightly blurry photo of the patches on me, I chose to put them up the inside seam of the sleeve because 1. that was the only place where I could line them all up nicely on that sleeve, and 2. I go to a private Christian school, where 90% of the people would see the rainbow and be "are you gay? we've got a gay one over here! just be straight, etc." so it's more subtle
it was pretty hard the sew up the inside of the sleeve, so they're not sewn on super straight, but it's fine, cause I'm not super straight either
this project also took forever, just putting them on the jacket took about 2 weeks (I was only working on it for 40-80 minutes a day though). I'm super happy with how they turned out!

Sleepy Stitches
Thomas Raggi × GN!Reader
Genre: Fluff (maybe a sprinkle of Angst? idk)
Warnings: Mentions of needles (they're embroidery needles, but they're still needles 😅), brief mention of smoking
Words: 2.6k
Summary: Thommy can't sleep, so he works on one of Reader's art projects until he falls asleep
==================================
Tumblr media
==================================
“So you just take the needle and thread it through here, trying to keep the stitches as tight together as possible.” You instructed, demonstrating the action on your small embroidery hoop, pushing the needle through the stretched muslin fabric, adding another colorful loop of thread to your artwork. “You can try it if you’d like.”
Thomas held his hands out to take the hoop from you, loosely holding the needle between his long fingers. He pinched it between his index and thumb, attempting to locate the closest possible entry point next to the stitch you had just placed before him. He poked it through the fabric, flipping the hoop over to make sure he initiated contact. He giggled when looking at the other side, realizing how zany the bottom half appeared, finally unveiling the secret twisted pathways underneath the beauty of an embroidery artist’s work.
“It looks like a bowl of colorful spaghetti.” He mused, flipping the hoop back to its right side to see where the next entry hole should go. He alternated between looking at the top and bottom, making sure the needle lined up with its target. When he finally poked through, the noise of its break caught his attention. It sounded like puncturing the batter head of a drum, the pop echoing throughout the quiet living room.
“I’m sure you have gotten used to that sound by now.” He teased, handing the hoop back to you to assess his progress. You chuckled, sticking the needle halfway through the fabric to keep it from accidentally rolling away and poking you. You only made that mistake once.
“Well, the fabric has to be super tight so the stitches don’t get all jumbled together. That’s the purpose of the hoop. Fabric slack is an embroiderer’s kryptonite.” You punctuated your statement with a snicker. Upon further inspection, you noticed that the exit hole you made during your stitch was suddenly a bit bigger than before. A classic rookie mistake made by almost every novice of embroidery art, including yourself at one time: accidentally putting the needle through the previous thread hole when trying to get the stitches as close as you can. A satin stitch, or any of the flavors of embroidery, weren’t an exact science. However, there were times when things needed to be as precise as possible.
“Thommy, when I said get them as close as possible, putting them through the same hole was not exactly what I had in mind.” You joked, showing him the hoop. He tilted his head in confusion, leaning forward to inspect the threads, gently parting them to find they were indeed not separated by even the thinnest of weft fibers.
“Oh…sorry.” He whispered, laughing awkwardly while running his fingers through his hair, sporting that incredibly lovable downturned smile.
“No need to apologize,” You assured, “It’s quite a common mistake and it’s an easy fix. I can’t tell you how many times I did that when I first started. Don’t worry, you’ll get better at it.” You saw Thomas’ hesitation still lingered as you simply backtracked the needle, undoing his stitch. You quickly did another one and handed it back to him, offering him a redo. “I know it’s a small needle, so I get if it’s tedious, but you can try again and I’m sure you’ll be fine.”
“I don’t know, love,” Thomas sighed, “maybe this whole stitching thing is too hard for me. Plus, you’ve been working on this thing for like three weeks. I don’t want to mess it up for you.”
You pouted, staring down at the artwork in your hands. It was a six-inch circular landscape, complete with a golden sunset and a lush field of flowers. Well, almost all the flowers had been added. You were currently filling in the various rolling hills with a gorgeous sage green thread. You wanted Thomas to help with the flowers, too, but the idea of even attempting a French knot stressed him out. You knew he wanted to learn, since embroidery art was something you loved. As your boyfriend, he was interested in learning about anything you liked, but this was one thing he felt like he couldn’t completely get into.
“If potentially messing up my artwork is what you’re worried about, how about we try a fresh piece of fabric?” You tried, setting the hoop and needle down on the coffee table. “I could show you a chain or a stem stitch again. Or you can face your fears and try the French knot?”
“Oh, no, leprotta, those are way harder than what you’re showing me now!” Thomas whined, rising from his seat on the couch to try and compensate for his rising nervous energy. “Maybe we can pick this up again later? I think I need a little break.”
Your eyes widened, not sure how to respond. Not wanting to make him any more anxious, you mustered a small “Okay” before returning the hoop back to your bedroom. But “picking up again later” never happened.
Later that night, Thomas found it hard to fall asleep. As much as he loved to sleep, this time it just wouldn't happen. He tried to get comfortable time and time again, but to no avail. He would close his eyes and try to bring about his own exhaustion as much as he could, but when he glanced at the clock again, only mere minutes had passed. Despite having to be awake early the following morning to be on time for one of the band’s interviews, it seemed that the more he tried to sleep, the more restless he became.
Thomas sat up, wondering what could be prying him away from a night of peaceful slumber. Too much caffeine? He may have had a larger slice of chocolate cake than usual for dessert, but that never bothered him in the past. Was it his nerves? In that case, having a cigarette typically calmed him down enough to get some rest. Doing his best not to disturb you, who was occupying the other half of the bed, he slowly got out from under the blanket and headed to the window. As he lit his cigarette and exhaled the first puff of air, he felt bad about the interaction he had with you earlier. Thomas didn’t want you to think he didn’t care enough to contribute to your art project. He just wanted to make sure that if he was going to make any sort of contribution, he was going to do it right.
Sticking the cigarette in the ashtray to extinguish it, he softly made his way back to the bed and began yet another attempt at sleeping. About thirty minutes later, his eyes shot open again, only aggravating him further. Thomas looked at the clock again. If things continued like this any longer, he’d be having to get up anyway by the time he got around to falling asleep. It was situations like these where the only viable solution was to get up and do something until it physically tired him out, so he had no choice but to go to bed.
Sitting upright again, Thomas surveyed the room to find his perfect activity. Practicing guitar was impossible as it was far too loud and would surely wake you up. He could write a new song, but currently had no good ideas, and anything he wrote down would've been forced just to keep himself occupied. And then he spotted it.
Taking one final glance over at you to assure you were still sleeping, he tiptoed over to your desk to grab the small wooden hoop, still attached to the same threaded strand of sage green yarn. He contemplated staying at the desk to work on it, but feared that the scraping of the chair legs against the floor would wake you immediately, so back to the bed it was.
Thomas stared at the fabric, his fingertips caressing the shiny golden clamp at the top of the hoop. Plucking the needle from its muslin bed, he started from where you left off. His first idea on how to improve his satin stitch technique was to use one hand to feel along the bottom for the previous thread loop, preventing him from placing the thread in the wrong spot. However, all he succeeded in doing was poking his middle finger when he tried to make the stitch because he didn’t move it before threading.
Mouthing “Ow” as he yanked his finger away from the fabric, he began to get discouraged again. Taking a steadying breath, he closed his eyes and tried to remain positive. “Okay, Thom, you got this.” He whispered ever so softly, the words barely leaving his plush lips. “You can do this.”
Not being able to see very well with only the small streaks of moonlight coming through the window, Thomas turned around to switch on the small lamp next to the bed, making the room a tad brighter. It wasn’t much light, considering it was only a table lamp, but at least he could see the colors on the fabric better instead of everything looking like one big grey blob.
You had been sound asleep up until this point, but the sudden abundance of light that seemed to be right outside your eyelids caught your attention. You slowly opened your eyes to inspect the source, seeing Thomas sitting up in front of you, slightly hunched over and extremely focused, his activity of choice concealed from your view.
“Thommy?” You mumbled, rubbing your eyes. “What are you doing, baby?”
Thomas froze. This was quite possibly the only time he would ever prefer you not to know what he was doing. He slowly turned his head to look at you, his expression one of worry as he knew he had woken you up. Now that his position had changed, you could clearly see what he was up to. You smiled faintly, your emotion a mix of tiredness and perplexion as to why Thomas decided that now was the time to practice his embroidery skills. Upon closer inspection, the odd timing wasn’t the only thing to bewilder you. The way Thomas held an embroidery needle was unlike any you had ever seen before. He held it like a pencil, pushing it through the fabric with his pinky. It was certainly different, but undoubtedly adorable considering he was still a beginner. You could almost start giggling from that alone.
You sat up next to him and rested your chin on his shoulder, placing a kiss on the side of his neck. He smiled and continued to fill in the design, keeping the stitches nice and tight, just like you had shown him earlier.
“I guess you had been paying attention.” You whispered as you continued to observe him.
“I remembered everything you said.” Thomas responded, his voice an equally low whisper. “Sorry for waking you, though.”
“You didn’t wake me.” You lied, hoping to ease his tension. “I felt a bit restless anyway.” Thomas knew you weren’t being truthful, but didn’t press the issue any further. “What made you want to practice this now?” You asked him, noticing his hand twitch at the question.
“I couldn’t sleep,” He confessed, “And I thought I could do something until I got tired. I thought maybe some practice alone would be better for me. But then you woke up.” And that’s when it hit you.
“Did practicing in front of me make you nervous?” You breathed, praying you weren’t correct but sensing there was no other logical conclusion. Thomas nodded.
“When you first asked me to try it with you, I assumed it would be easy for me. Sewing is something you need to have good finger movement for. I figured my guitar skills would help me a lot, but I was wrong.” He explained, making another stitch to demonstrate. “The one big difference I didn’t think of was that, when I’m playing guitar, my fingers are constantly moving. From what you’ve shown me, sewing is much slower. I think the idea of normally moving quickly is what’s making me mess up. I just wanted to practice a bit more before coming back to you with it.”
Your gaze flickered between Thomas and the embroidery hoop. You smiled in a way that made your dimples quite prominent. “From what I can see here, you’re skills are doing nothing but good things for you.” Thomas stared down at the fabric, wondering what you meant. “I can’t even tell where I finished and you started.” You praised him, running the tip of your fingers across the muted green loops.
Thomas looked up at you, his pupils so large you’d think he was high. “You mean it?”
“It never mattered to me if you were good at it, Thommy.” You replied, resting your chin against his shoulder again. “Regardless of what you were able to do, I’m just happy you want to be involved.”
Thomas resumed his embroidering stance, left hand holding the edge of the hoop against his lap while his right hand tightly gripped the needle. He went to make another stitch, but stopped. His eyes moved back and forth, as if he were reading invisible words on an equally transparent page. His left hand abandoned the hoop and grasped the thread instead, making sure to grip it as close to the fabric as possible. He softly repeated what you had told him when wrapping the thread for a knot. “Three loops for a small one, five loops for medium, seven for large.”
He carefully coiled the thread around the scarf of the needle before making contact with the fabric, remembering to hold the knot firmly against the stretched muslin to ensure it was secure. He extended his right hand to pull the thread, making a dent in the center of the yarn ball like a bundt cake. He had successfully created a French knot.
“You did it.” You whispered, moving a few stray hairs away from Thomas’ eyes. “I’m so proud of you, Thommy.”
“I love you, tesoro.” He purred, turning his head towards you to press a kiss to your lips, his heart soaring with confidence and validation.
“I love you too, baby.” You responded, softly tracing your finger along the edge of his jawline. Feeling uplifted from his wonderful contribution to your artwork, he continued adding stitches to the fabric, making rapid progress to the various regions of the field. You observed him with pure happiness, lazily stroking his hair, sweeping your fingers along the back of his neck. You felt your eyelids getting heavy, briefly closing them as you continued to lean against Thomas’ shoulder.
After several minutes, you no longer heard the distinct popping and stretching of any stitches being made. Slowly opening your eyes, you looked over at Thomas’ face to see his eyes closed and his mouth slightly open, his long eyelashes softly resting against his cheeks. You knew he was trying to fall asleep, but you thought he would at least make it back to bed before he did so.
Chuckling to yourself, you slowly took the hoop and needle out of his hands and placed them back on your desk, making sure Thomas didn’t fall forward or backward when you moved. Turning back to him, you gently held the back of his neck as you guided him to lay down, pulling the blanket up over his chest before getting comfortable on your side of the bed. Thankfully, you didn’t disturb him on the way down, since he was typically a heavy sleeper once he was finally out. Hurriedly turning off the lamp and climbing back into bed, you cuddled him until you fell asleep, ever so proud of him for always doing his best.
==================================
I wrote a rough draft of this fic about a year ago reflecting on an embroidery class I took in high school. And yes, I included the part about awkwardly holding a needle because one of my classmates held their needle that way and it absolutely baffled me lmao 🤭 I was always amazed how they made such incredible designs using that particular form but I guess they were doing something right 😁

Hiya. Thanks for the tags @hushed-chorus and @artsyunderstudy 💕 Chapter 4 of More Than Friends is still just mostly an outline for me to try to bring to life later this weekend. Here's a few random bullets from that:
The flat is quiet when he crawls back in, shuts all the windows against the rain, pulls out his computer, and begins to type.
Baz says he’s fine. He sees enough of Simon at home. Agatha just hmmms.
They cook together. Just a simple salmon tray bake with leeks and potatoes.
Simon sucks on the back of Baz’s neck. He doesn’t stop him. He wants there to be a mark.

I also mocked up a very simple design for my next embroidery project. I use Canva then trace the design onto paper then in turn trace the design again onto fabric - it is so low tech.
Tumblr media
Does anyone recognize it (probably not). It's inspired by the logo for Pasture, a nightclub at the Kathrine that appears in Dead in Vegas. Here's the description from ch 2:
A block and change down is a large LED display. It towers over the walkway, marking the turn-off for The Katherine. Even from where we’re standing it’s easy to make out the frolicking white lamb on a red field. It’s missing its head. Thin black lines shoot out from the lamb’s neck like a starburst. They pulse and spin like a sinister halo. The image is flanked by gothic writing. Pasture Nightclub.
And from WIP of ch 3:
Towering over all is the club’s headless mascot projected across three massive screens. The lamb frolics, glitches, drops, and resumes, moving across a red field as black rays pour from its neck, pumping with the beat.
Well see how I handle that lamb design...

"Her aesthetic is platinum, with an array of subtle colours. Picture fine particles of glitter that catch the light and refract into a multitude of colours"
Do you have any *idea* what a yarn crafting nightmare this is? I have some ideas but I've finally decided on a long bodied frame I can put multiple dresses on so I can experiment. Unless I find the perfect embroidery thread for a mini......
In any case-
I fully believe the future of Princess merchandise for Fazco lies in makeup/costumes/dress up merch, and hard bodied dolls. Think like, american girl, barbie, monster high, ect. Ball jointed things with every accessory under the sun. The castle, by nature of its built in narritive, would be downright tone deaf to not merchandise towards pretend play. And fazco has two predominate plush styles. The chunky kind (think plush baby) and the long bodied kind (sun and moon AR plushes). While possible for them to redesign the plush's from the ground up, the infrastructure for assembly already existed from the pizzaplex. The attendant's hips are also a plush nightmare. But liberties are probably taken to emphasize other features and leave them the long body plush bodies.
Now you can either market the princess as a unit with the attendants, giving her the long body type, or independently, reusing the chunky plush style, which has far less detail and is printed felt. Actually given her size, and encouraging imagination play with the knight plushes (no doubt chunky), making her a chunky plush in sky blue (guarentee it would test better than grey. Might even end up in like a cream cause little girls would dig it as wedding aestetic) is most likley.
*having said that*
I personally would prefer her in a long body, to preserve her elegance.
So that's def what I'm doing.
after my current project, which unfortunately is slated for a few months worth of work given my limited work time, I'm definitly going to bare minimum rough out a body and face. Time to order all the armature wire ever.
(A mental image, of a small girl repeat customer, who obsessivley ships anyone but sun with the princess, and makes direct eye contact with sun while making her toys kiss. She probably has a crush on sun)
Nelly I'm so sorry I was just trying to give you more informationnnnn Basically I'm saying her palette is really minimal so she'll look great in a bunch of colours and I TRUST ANYTHING YOU DO I PROMMIE
I totally agree that dolls would be a huge hit later down the line when the Castle gets more popular. Doll!Princess would be a similar shape to the Glamrock action figures to encourage cross over play. Glamrock Chica and Roxy having girlie sleepovers with the Princess, small replicas of the Castle made ripping off Barbie's Dream House.
(Also that little girl with the Princess toy doll making them kiss everyone, that's me. That's my self insert. She's got a big ol' crush on Sun but keeps making doll!Sun smooch literally everybody.)

I made an elizabethan coif
Because why not.
Based on the Elizabthan Costume pattern, modified for my noggin (and to fit the tiny remnant of linen from my kirtle lining).
Tumblr media
Plus a forehead cloth (due to aforementioned tiny remnant) based on some research by Amie Sparrow with freehand blackwork embroidery based on Sidney Eileen's research, (namely the unfinished coif with spirals and flowers) plus a couple modified cats for good measure.
Tumblr media
The embroidery (obviously) took the longest while, I started it middle of November after doing a practice project of 18th century pockets (anachronistic for a Ren faire outfit but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Pockets.) Probably about 20-30ish hours? Amusingly the pocket practice was mostly for naught, in the early sections (very evident on the right) I started to get super ill and in my delirium did very poorly.
Tumblr media
Then I did micro hems around the whole lot and added some cords I had from a Halloween project (godsbless because I went into a finger weaving rabbit hole that almost sank the project haha. I still might do some weaving for the kirtle laces, but for now, macrame cords are Fine™) But forgot to take photos of the flat lay, so here's the assembled coif and forehead cloth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, what a delight it is to have needlework in the evenings and a little sewing bag to take on errands.

For the past couple weeks I've been stuck trying to pick colors for my current embroidery project. I started with the line work so it was fine but having recently finished the line work I had reached a standstill. But each time I tried to match colors to the reference image I got overwhelmed and the thread would all start to look the same.
But I did it!! I decided to try again, hoping to pick at least a few colors so I could keep embroidering, but I'm done! I have all the colors picked out!
