#flannery cake
Text
characters from earlier games whom i want the scarvi cast to meet
nemona: LEON. high-energy champs who love to win??? nemona would so be a leon fangirl.
arven: i want to see him cooking with beni. mochi vs sandwiches.
penny: i want penny to meet guzma, solely so that guzma can slowly realise that this nerdy eevee-obsessed kid is a much more serious criminal than he is.
katy: viola! omg they would chat about their darling bugs while katy bakes, and then viola would take some insta-worthy photos of the resulting cake that go viral. the cake is vivillon themed.
brassius: he and burgh would be friends i think.
kofu: he and crasher wake have the combined energy of a tsunami and that sounds hilarious.
tulip: i HAVE to see tulip doing diantha's makeup and sweating the entire time. she's too gay for this shit.
iono: RAIHAN.
larry: i'm going to say red, because while red is an unspeakably strong trainer and certified oddball, he's also got strong Normal Dude vibes and that fits well with larry. i think red would listen sympathetically to larry's complaints about work while the two of them eat ramen.
ryme: hear me out, i think there's room for a collab between her and piers. he jams out on a guitar, she freestyles to whatever beat he creates.
grusha: melony. this boy needs a hug and i think melony could give him a good one. also ice type friends.
clavell: he and looker attempt to understand slang together. clavell is struggling because he's clavell, looker is struggling because paldean is not one of his best languages. they are Trying.
rika: cynthia. see, every lesbian pokemon fan swoons for cynthia. i don't think rika would be any different. i think rika would lose her shit upon meeting cynthia. then the two of them bond over garchomp.
poppy: byron. he would instantly go Dad Mode on this tiny girl. then he finds out that she has steel types and he's on the verge of trying to get custody. how does he tell roark about his new baby sister.
hassel: burgh again, but for different reasons. i think hassel is a burgh fanboy.
real sada/turo: norman sits them down and has a Friendly Chat with them about their parenting skills. the slakings are blocking the doors. there is no escape.
ai sada/turo: i want them to meet laventon solely because laventon trying to work out what the fuck the ais are would be hilarious.
mela: flannery. awkward torkoal buddies!
ortega: listen he and bede would either be besties or hate each other on sight and i cannot work out which would be funnier.
giacomo: piers again, he's totally a piers fan, he's done fan remixes of piers's songs.
atticus: i want him to meet and get proper ninja training from koga and janine because he deserves it.
eri: zisu. the arm-wrestling contest would be LEGENDARY.
jacq: he and sycamore probably found each other on grindr during a conference and. y'know.
salvatore: he would like to meet fantina! the two could practise their kantonese together.
raifort: she and volo would get along for the worst reasons.
miriam: i want her to meet peselle. they have common ground and honestly i think it'd be cute.
dendra: i can picture her training with maylene and having a good time.
saguaro: i think gaeric would immediately fall in love if he met saguaro. and tbh i can't blame him.
tyme: i'm gonna say clemont. she would be really impressed by his inventions and would be a good tutor to him.
koraidon/miraidon: listen n would take one look at these big idiot lizard dogs and IMMEDIATELY fall in love. they are his new friends, he will give them all of the sandwiches.

The whole thing was increasingly based upon an 'us and them' theme. Hip people versus straight people. There was a perverse cult of personality about these new stars, delineated by a romantic hipness and exclusivity. Somebody as painfully polished as myself found it increasingly difficult to get into this covert world. There was a great deal of rhetoric about liberated society and assuming freedom but there was also another side that angered me a little. It was clandestine and one got the feeling that who was in and who was out was solidifying by the week.
-
I also loathed that division between the so-called authenticity of rock and the apparent inauthenticity of pop. I never really held with the philosophy that the 33rpm album offered liberation of the psyche. Mostly it seemed to me that good old-fashioned pop was no longer hip because music was no longer supposed to be fun; it was now deadly serious, po-faced, even. Rock artists seemed unwilling to call themselves entertainers any longer, to please crowds, or to be successful.
-
I remember a year or so later meeting up with Beatle publicist Derek Taylor during the great Apple Records fiasco. Derek and I had never really got on: he'd realised at an early stage that I had been closer to Brian than he had ever been and he rather resented me for it, I think. I had asked Derek what Apple was all about and he curtly informed me that the Beatles were trying to 'eliminate business lies', that business was 'obscuring the truth' and that truth 'hung somewhere in the generation gap... at least before Youth took over'.
I couldn't believe his acid-soaked naivety.
While he was speaking the heads around Apple were fleecing the company of a million quid, but it must have been OK to Derek because 'they' were cool.
-
So, as you can see, the era of peace, love and harmony was no cake walk for some of us. My own doors of perception stayed firmly closed. The likes of the aforementioned Derek Taylor were openly recommending that reality was somehow a fiction and that excess led to enlightenment, but for me Derek was living his life in inverted commas.
There was certainly no avoiding the evidence that a youth consciousness existed and that things required challenging: this is a central theme of the 1960s and I applauded all of that, for it was in contrast to the elitism that we had all endured. But we weren't all there in the 1960s - wherever 'there' might have been, Pepperland perhaps? [...]
An old friend of mine, the distinguished organist Michael Delfonte, once remarked to me that as he played across the country during the 1960s whatever was supposed to be happening always appeared to have happened before he arrived in a particular city, town, or venue. Often he recalled to me someone saying to him: 'You should have been here last week!'
In truth 'the sixties' was part myth. So these histories of the 1960s do tend to stick in my craw somewhat. They are strategic and essentialist. My actual summer of love (1967) involved piecework at a factory, the unnecessary death of my boyhood friend Brian, followed by the inescapable disintegration of his greatest dream.
Standing in the Wings, by Joe Flannery (with Mike Brocken)

On their first date Steven feels this immense need to impress Flannery bc he hasn’t dated anyone for so long and he wants her to think he’s amazing so he takes her to this fancy ass hotel restaurant and booked out the whole place and they have so many different sized knives and forks and food that is literally small and gastronomic
Flannery subsequently has a panic attack in the bathroom bc 1. The dress she borrowed from Winona is too tight and she can’t breathe 2. There are so many gosh darn forks 3. The food makes her feel a little unwell
Steven wonders why she’s taking so long and checks in on her and then feels immensely horrible when he finds out that she’s rly struggling so they leave immediately and go get Lava Cookies and ice cream (she knows the grandma who sells them on mt chimney so they drop by her place and Steven literally pays her a grand to make some fresh ones lol)
Their second date goes much better bc they go climbing and rock hunting in the Fiery Path (flannery loves the climbing bit bc she’s athletic and steven the rock hunting bit bc he’s a nerd)
Their third date Flannery tries to teach Steven how to bake a cake because he literally can’t even boil water and they have such a great time (and a really terrible tasting cake bc Steven added salt instead of sugar and didn’t know the diff between a tbsp and a tsp)
Steven also drops by lavaridge maybe once a week to have dinner with Flannery and her grandpa 🥰 her grandpa was initially very protective of her but he knows that Steven has good intentions and is a gentleman so he warms up pretty quickly
I think they have lots of different kinds of dates, sometimes they stay in and order takeout and have a lil spa day (Steven is soooo obsessed with his skincare and infects Flannery with it lol) other times they go climbing and rock hunting, and once they’re public Steven takes her often to his public events

Pokemon questions:
Who is your favorite gym leader?
Which gym badge design is your favorite?
Which gym city is your favorite?
To give examples using my own:
Allister (though Valerie is a close second, mostly because of her design)
Rainbow Badge
Laverre City
Favorite Gym Leader: Larry hands down. Though before him, as a kid, adored Flannery, largely because she looked so cool. But as of now, Larry takes the cake. He deserves a raise and a break.
Favorite Gym Badge: Earth Badge. It's simple, but elegant and it's the one I'm just drawn to most visually. Rainbow Badge is close as I do like rainbows and a pleasing color wheel, but there's something about the Earth that's just more appealing.
Favorite Gym City: Fortree City. A town largely made up of treehouses? Loved the concept as a kid, to a point that when I replayed Emerald, the area around it I always looked forward to getting there cause it was a cool looking forest section before Fortree and after, and you got actual rain in certain parts and you got to zip along a wooden bridge that goes along a bunch of treehouses, and concept wise, now that I'm older, I still love it. You don't see a whole town of treehouses too much in media. And for a game designed for kids in mind, to me it's one of the most brilliant and whimsical town designs. I always love seeing it.
What would be second to it may be Lilycove, I always found myself enjoying visiting Lilycove. I think it's because it's blue, very close to the ocean, and close to Mount Pyre. I also like Team Aqua a little more than Magma, and that's their base in Emerald.

Calling all mystery lovers with a sweet tooth! The latest installment in Carlene O’Connor’s series set in County Cork, Ireland, is a treat you won’t want to miss. “Murder at the Mill” is a cozy, feel-good, and delicious whodunit that revolves around a reality TV baking contest that comes to the quaint town of Kilbane. If you’ve read any of O’Connor’s previous books, you’ll know that she excels at creating a charming and quirky cast of characters, and this one is no exception. From the feisty but lovable Garda Siobhan O’Sullivan to the brash and ambitious TV producer Jane, each person in the story has their own distinct personality and backstory that makes them interesting and relatable. The baking competition itself is a delight for anyone who appreciates the art and science of making pastries, cakes, and pies. O’Connor’s descriptions of the various recipes that the contestants whip up are mouth-watering, and you can almost smell the butter, cinnamon, and sugar wafting from the pages. Whether you’re a home baker or just someone who likes to indulge in a good dessert every now and then, you’ll find yourself rooting for your favorite contestant to win. But of course, as the title suggests, there’s more to this story than baking and eating. When one of the contestants is found dead in the middle of the competition, Siobhan and her husband, Garda Macdara Flannery, must step in and start investigating. As they interview the other contestants, the judges, and the staff of the TV show, they uncover a web of secrets, lies, and hidden agendas that make this murder case anything but straightforward. One of the strengths of “Murder at the Mill” is how O’Connor weaves together the mystery plot with the everyday life of Kilbane. The town itself becomes a character in the story, with its scenic landscapes, cozy pubs, and gossipy residents who all have their own opinions and theories about the murder. Siobhan, who is not only a garda but also a member of the O’Sullivan family, is torn between her duty to solve the crime and her loyalty to her loved ones and her community. In addition to the mystery and the baking, there are also some romantic subplots that will appeal to readers who like a bit of swoon with their suspense. Siobhan and Macdara’s relationship is tested by the stresses of the investigation and their own personal issues, but they still manage to find time for some heartfelt moments and tender gestures. The other contestants, too, have their own romantic entanglements that add a bit of spice to the story. Overall, “Murder at the Mill” is a delightful and well-crafted cozy mystery that will satisfy your craving for a good whodunit and a charming setting. Whether you’re a fan of Carlene O’Connor’s previous books or just looking for a new cozy series to sink your teeth into, this one is worth checking out. Just make sure you have some snacks on hand, because you’ll definitely get hungry reading it! Does Flannery stand a chance of winning this year's holiday baking contest and the heart of the man she loves, when her main competition for both is her most bitter rival? Flannery White is convinced that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. And if she has her way, she’ll be engaged to Divine, Colorado’s most eligible bachelor, Warren Kane, by the time Christmas Day arrives. The plan is simple. She’ll enter the town’s Christmas baking competition, impress him with her recreation of his favorite dessert, and find herself suddenly engaged to the object of her affections. The only problem? Flannery is a disaster in the kitchen. And to make matters worse, her rival, Stella, seems to be determined to win both the baking contest and Warren's heart for herself. Thankfully, Flannery’s best friend in the whole world, Sam Jolly, is ready to help her. As the son of a grocer, Sam knows his ingredients and his way around the kitchen. However, Sam's been keeping a little secret - he’s been head-over-heels in love with Flannery since they were children. Will Sam be able to put aside his love for Flannery to see her happily engaged to another man? Or will Flannery discover that true love might wear a flour-covered apron instead of an expensive suit?

O-oh well, as I’ve already said, Hufflepuff and Gryffindor will feature only two sets of MCs instead of three, for various reason ;; here’s @zigarettes-are-cool, @flannerycake, @bambieambieboo, @makichaotic, @jolyne-jiyuu and @ploogaumm‘s mcs! As always, if you didn’t want your character to be part of this little project, or you don’t like the result, or I’ve messed up etc. etc., I’m sorry! ><

"Red Velvet Cake" | Agent Red/Rita | Read on AO3
“Special delivery!” Someone sang over the sound of the door rattling open.
She heard the thump of boots against the floor as Rita walked into their shared kitchen, dressed and already working her shift, while Regina still cradled her first cup of coffee in her hands. In Rita's hand however, lifted high above her head, was a beautifully wrapped package. And on top of that, a little box stamped with the logo of the local bakery. Rita offered a bright smile, showing off her cute little dimples. “To a Regina Flannery Harbour. Does anyone with that name live here?”
“Good morning, Rita”, Regina said. While she usually didn’t accept this kind of mischief at this hour (eight forty-five, for the record), she couldn’t help the warmth spreading in her chest at the sight.
“Morning, love. Happy birthday!”
Rita placed the birthday presents on the table, one by the other. The bigger one, wrapped in a sparkling red wrapping paper and with a black silk band tied around it, also had a card. She grabbed it and considered the hand-written message for a moment.
“‘To my special agent’”, she read out loud. Beside the cursive text was a heart, drawn in with a glitter marker. “Thank you.” Regina smiled and pulled the smaller box closer. She wondered what baked good could be in there.
“Ah-ah-ah!” Rita waved a finger in front of her before she had a chance to open. “You have to sign first!”
She laughed. “Of course. Where do I sign?”
Rita positively beamed. “We’re trying out a new system right now. You sign with your lips. Right here.” She tapped at her left cheek. No one in recorded history had ever looked as satisfied with themself as Rita did in that very moment, she was sure of that.
“Okay, okay”, Regina laughed, “Come here, you sap.”
Arms reaching up to hook around Rita’s neck, Regina pulled her down to her level. She pressed a kiss against her cheek, feeling the shape of a dimple beneath her lips.
When they departed, Rita leaned closer. “And for the bigger package, sign here”, she mumbled, breath tickling against Regina’s mouth.
“Okay”, Regina leaned forth until their lips met. She hadn’t put on lipstick yet, but now she’d surely have some of Rita’s on her lips. Maybe she should just borrow some of her lipstick today.
They shared a smile. Rita nodded to the presents. Regina opened the small one first, revealing a slice of red velvet cake from the bakery, decorated with marzipan roses. With a smile, she grabbed a spoon and offered the first bite to Rita, who took it gratefully. She’d always had more of a sweet tooth than Regina, but who would say no to a slice of birthday cake?
“This isn’t a very healthy breakfast”, Regina pointed out before she shoved a spoonful of cake into her mouth.
“You usually only have coffee, so your opinion is invalid.”
“That may be fair…”
“Open the present now!” Rita said. “Before I have to go back to work!”
“Okay, okay!”
With Rita’s expectant eyes on here, she pulled the present closer and inspected it. It wasn’t heavy at all. Sometimes you didn’t know, because Rita could carry a block of solid lead and make it look light as a feather, but this time, the present actually weighed less than a kilogram. Well aware that a certain someone was at the edge of her seat (figuratively–Rita still stood by the kitchen table, ready to bounce back to her mail duties within the minute), Regina stroked the outside of the box, really feeling the texture of the wrapping paper. Admiring the black bow on top of the well-wrapped present.
“It’s beautiful”, she said.
“Yeah, I know. Open!”
Regina pulled the strings of the bow, then carefully peeled off the tape holding it all together. Inside was a cardboard box with a lid. She sent a sideway grin at her dearest, who practically bounced as she lifted the lid.
Regina let out a gasp. Inside the box a plush toy rested, with one big eye staring up at her.
She reached in and pulled him out. He was made in soft felt fabric, a green blobby guy in a silver vest and gloves. His one cyclop eye sat on the very top of his head and had sparkles in the iris.
“This is adorable!” Regina gasped.
“Another one for your alien plushie collection!” Rita winked. “I knew you’d like him.”
“Thank you”, she smiled to herself, holding her new plush close.
“If anyone at your secret service saw you right now-”
“They would never. My time outside of work is strictly classified.” Regina said with finality, still hugging her plush.
Rita laughed.
“Okay. Only I’m allowed to see.” Rita placed a peck on Regina’s forehead. “I have to go. Happy birthday. I love you.”
“I love you too”, Regina said, meaning it more wholeheartedly than anything else she had ever said.
The door closed and she was alone to finish her cake and her coffee. In her lap rested a plush alien, who would later be put on her shelf with the others. Her job started in forty-five minutes, and she didn’t have a doubt that her crew in hazmat suits would try to throw her a surprise party as well. In all honesty, she didn’t mind that. She enjoyed her coworkers, even if they sometimes drove her mad.
But the best gift, she had already been given. And it wasn’t the little guy in her lap.
It was the love and care from the one she shared a life with.

Just make sure you have some snacks on hand, because you’ll definitely get hungry reading it! hey, thanks for the tag @tricky-pockets!
Last song: ah heck the last thing I was listening to was a radio show on Mixcloud....uhh let me see, here it was this one: https://www.mixcloud.com/WQRT_Indianapolis/good-vibrations-28-integration/
Last movie: I made my mom watch “Knives Out” with me on amazon prime video and even though she sort of fell asleep halfway through I think she enjoyed it!
Currently watching: should be nothing because I need to finish my final watercolor paper this weekend!!! but actually Teen Wolf and Star Trek Discovery which I will promptly catch up on as soon as I’m finished with school
Currently reading: AUGHH, my younger-self hungry to read anything including the backs of cereal boxes would be so disappointed in me because I haven’t taken time in my life to really read any books in MONTHS! TnT  I’ve got a whole list in my head and on my bookshelf to get to though: Flannery O’conner’s collection of essays “Mystery and Manners”, a short stories collection by Harry Crews, the 2nd Welcome to Nightvale novel “It Devours!”, some Ursula K LeGuin novel... etc.     Who knows when I’ll get to them. I might even buy more books first
Currently craving: the focus and commitment I need to do my watercolor painting, and also fair food. Like fried bread funnel cakes, ribbon fries, mystery hot beverage.... ahh fair food
ok and now it’s my turn to tag some people... how about @isolfrviradechtisbrother @sunsetfields @mocktext
