actually. thinks about the fact that khaenr'iah's historical erasure contributed to its dehumanization
it's a classic propaganda tactic; as/after you wipe them all out, rewrite their history so they only exist as the losers or the monsters
when people think of khaenri'ah, they think of a nation of corrupted divine knowledge and machines ready to kill. they think of the leftover monsters, ready to purge everyone in their path for revenge
what they don't get to hear about is the humans that lived there. what there may have been; the tailors and the servants and the knights. the jousts and the tourneys and the festivals. the people making silly poses in front of field tillers, or laughing over a roaring fire. the graffiti of the people there, the captain knocking his knights over the head because being knights doesn't mean they're exempt from rules against vandalism. the love for stars and (royal) dances and kicking balls at each other in rainy alleyways, the very human lives that existed among all of that
they (celestia) have successfully reduced Khaenri'ah into just a tragedy; a story forgotten and no longer worth telling for fear of retribution. by erasing the history, they erased the sympathy, and the chance of people knowing it could happen to them.
they successfully made Khaenri'ah into the monster (and the fact that Khaenri'ah's mistakes hurt the other nations doesn't help showcase their humanity).

⸢ FURINA'S HAIR: SYMBOLISM ⸥
Tumblr media
OTHER NOTES ➽ My personal interpretation of our beloved archon's design, specifically the way she styled her hair in all forms.
SPOILERS ➽ SPOILERS FOR 4.2 ARCHON QUEST, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
Tumblr media
Focalors, who had pure straight hair. Seamlessly luscious befitting that of the divine.
Focalors, who separated her humanity and divinity, one day seeking that human half for a greater goal.
Focalors, who approached a short-haired Furina that possessed the same raw curiosity for living as Focalors did when she first left her watery form. So young yet so full of life.
Furina, accepting a role at the cost of herself, donning a polished attire that still resembled her human apparel.
Furina, who faced the eager audience that was Fontaine with the same long curls as Focalors, which was unlikely to have grown naturally in such a rushed length of time.
Furina, who paraded a unique haircut, yet you can see where the end of her short hair is, and where the temporary locks start.
Furina, who had shown us in her mental stage the rigorous pursuit of a solution for the prophecy; working with both her true human self and the godly persona she played.
Furina, who, unlike Focalor’s hair, had a distinct cut that’d separate the short thrill of humanity and the long lamentation of an archon.
Furina, who unlike Focalors', was always a figurehead even in design, one who didn’t have the same true divinity as Focalors.
Focalors, who, unlike Furina, didn’t have the pleasure of experiencing the glory of a god to her people nor the amusing titillation of a human.
Focalors, who will forever outgrow her hair until it’s long enough for even the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale to chop it, thus ending her divine run.
Furina, who, unlike Focalors', was able to live out her humanity even when the long tresses of divinity were cut from her hair. Only appearing when assuming a fleeting role as Fontaine’s archon.
Furina, who may now grow her hair at her own pace, not as an artificial divinity, but as a human who yearned for spectacle.
Focalors, who designed her human self in a way that’d allow for Furina to grow, because that’s the one thing she knew she couldn’t fulfill herself, as evidenced by the lengthy tresses that flow behind her before her demise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Focalors, whose hair is unnaturally split into two, might've been the forewarning of her two halves.
Focalors, and her humanity, are differentiated by the consequences of cutting their hair, of cutting their divinity.

So.
1. Following the events in Fontaine, the Seven quite literally aren't seven anymore, as the throne is destroyed and the power stolen from the Sovereign was restored. They lost control over Hydro. This is an offence to Celestia of the highest order.
2. The Sustainer of the Heavenly Principles intervenes for anything big enough to threaten the status quo, as seen by what happened to twins for the crime of- [checks notes] -passing through Teyvat.
3. The annual Dainsleif quest is also coming up, and his quests are always tied to Celestia and Khaenri'ah (who suffered Celestia's wrath).
So, with this information, I am hoping, praying and manifesting for the Sustainer to appear during the dain quest please please please please-

Use of immortality in genshin is so neat to me. Cause it doesn't really exist??
One of the heavenly principles is that everything will one day be returned to the earth. For mortals this is ageing, for archons its the process of erosion. But not a single being in the world of Teyvat is truly immortal. It would've been so easy for hoyoverse to go down the traditional "divine beings are immortal, invulnerable and overpowered" route. But they didn't. The archons aren't immortal nor invulnerable and it makes them feel more human for it. They're also not overpowered either, they're obviously considerably stronger than allogenes as they've had longer to learn the ins and outs of their element.
There's no set 'level' for archon strength either, all 7 of them are at different levels to each other and experience setbacks as well as advantages depending on their environment or other varying factors (which is why power debates are stupid).
This makes the Tsaritsa's goal feel more fleshed out and more realistic. It's achievable with enough time and effort. There's so many games/shows/movies where you can tell very early on that the antagonist is pushing a rock uphill, they're fighting a losing battle, and it's refreshing to see hyv not take this route.
It's no coincidence that the Tsaritsa is the most human out of all the seven. Not just in that she apologises to her subjects, or understands what she's asking of them, but she's flawed. She's stubborn, she's a loner, she's proud and unmoving in her decision, she isn't accepting of criticism and she's narrow-minded, bordeline obsessive. She's had to harden her resolve because she was too benevolent. Ice is symbolic of all these things, and it would've been so easy to set her apart from the other archons and give her this air of superiority but they don't.
One may argue that regarding herself as the Tsaritsa of Snezhnaya is an act of superiority but I beg to differ. It's a downgrade from god, a monarchy is a man-made system, to be regarded as the Tsaritsa before the cryo archon makes her feel more human. It's an attempt at getting rid of that divine aspect of her person.
And I think, overall it's what sets apart the celestial gods from the archons on Teyvat. The archons can die, they can lose; they can experience grief, They face challenges and setbacks as they adapt with their nations, and they reap the rewards for it. They can feel achieved and proud. They're human. We as the player can relate to them, empathise with them and it gives them depth. They're nuanced and it makes the Tsaritsa's goal seem more realistic and achievable. Her motivation makes sense cause it's something we can empathise with.
The absence of these same themes for the celestial gods makes them feel less human, there's nothing to relate to. They feel empty and lacking. They're set apart both physically and emotionally from Teyvat.
Furthermore, cause I'm never done, there's humans cursed with longevity aswell. La Signora/Rosalyne, Dainsleif and Pierro. These 3 — as well as others that I haven't mentioned cause I'm not 100% sure of — act as a mental bridge for the player to relate the archons to Teyvat. Longevity isn't exclusive to divine beings which further adds to make the archons feel more human than the celestial gods.

Completely for-fun speculation don’t take anything too seriously I’m kind of just fooling around
Guys what if there was an era before the previous era, and that era was Genshin’s time.
I like the idea that the Kaslanas ran Celestia, so what if the reason Kevin seemed to be so talented in athletics was hidden, dormant genes of “divine origin”?
The previous era taking place after Celestia was overthrown and the people of Teyvat began to make their way towards the outer surface of the planet rather than the inside, the former Celestial gods sent down as humans as punishment. They all had white hair and blue or gold eyes, and were noticeably stronger than other humans, their strength still on-par with other gods like the Archons. Generation after generation those abilities dimmed significantly when we reach Kevin.
Maybe Haitham was reincarnated into Su? People did want Haitham to be the next Grand Sage, and Su is called a sage sometimes. It would be a fun twist for such an analytical character to be reborn as a highly empathetic one.
Feel free to add onto this, I had this sort of crack idea and thought others would find it interesting too.

taking pics on top of the skyfrost nail made me realize i can finally zoom in on celestia with the new lens gadget. i’m very surprised i haven’t thought of it before lol

ZOOM ENHANCE
need to find a good spot in fontaine to get a better one, since its much closer to celestia than dragonspine is lol
will update if i remember to do so
seeing celestia always pinged my brain for “the sky is fake” so i stood on the hands of barbatos and
i’m sure this is not a new discovery this game is how old now but like
i knew there were rings of stars in the night sky. i noticed that when i first started playing — i was in awe of the scenery and taking everything in, as i still do to this day. just stand around and look
now i take pictures of the things that make me stare lol
anyway i didn’t realize the pattern of stars was something other than just circles, rings

reminds me of nahida’s burst tbh but i haven’t played her enough to be certain of the similarities

i think i would genuinely cry in disappointment if that were true

Okay Genshin 4.1 thoughts dump because if I don't compile my thoughts somewhere I will literally implode. Anyways, spoilers for the Fontaine Archon Quest so far (as of Chapter 4, the Version 4.1 update) under the Read More (a couple paragraphs under, but you catch my drift)
So. Something I have always absolutely adored about Genshin's storytelling is the way it goes about presenting its gods as "Human too"...
At first, it was seen painfully obvious through Ei and her incredibly human response to grief and trauma (a lot of people thought she was being unreasonable, and yeah for a ruler of an entire nation, closing yourself off to the outside world certainly seems - and is - irresponsible. And then... you consider how easily any other normal person would have done the same thing, if not worse, if they had lost nearly everyone they loved in quick succession, while also being personally responsible for a handful of those deaths).
And upon further reflection on the topic, you can see blatant traces of it present in every archon. And I don't just mean their trying to blend into/ further their understanding of humans, human society, and human nature.
Tumblr media
I mean, Venti is kinda hedonistic and aloof; Zhongli wasn't always as wise and so intricately-versed in his knowledge about so many things - before the Archon War, he was more of a brute who preferred to solve things head-on (literally) as opposed to thinking things through; Nahida- oh don't even get me started on Nahida. Her self-doubt and insecurity as a result of facing constant beratement and feelings of inferiority to Rukkhadevata; her constant desire to learn more (both for her namesake as the God of Wisdom, to prove herself, and for her own curiosity's sake); her child-like nature (as a result of her research and human observation ofc!!! but still adorable none-the-less; I mean "dook-dook" !?! come on!)...
But now with Furina, oh. I think we've entered a BRAND NEW level and it's part of the reason why I absolutely love her so much.
In classic good-story-telling practice, Genshin achieves all of this through "show-not-tell" and it's world-class ability of characterizing its characters (IN MY OPINION ! I love them so much, okay?). And from the second I MET this girl to the very last line of 4.1's archon quest, it has been made painfully abundant to me that
Furina is just a child.
She has. NO IDEA what she's doing!!! Now, the underlying reasons for this have yet to be seen, and will most likely be tackled in the very next Archon Quest chapter, but if you'll allow me to speculate right now... Knowing that Egeria also conducted trials for citizens who broke the law (meaning she should have also been a God of Justice), I believe whole-heartedly that it was her who built the entire system Furina and Neuvillette are running right now. Meaning, I'm confident Furina has absolutely nothing to do with it. The ONLY (and I think I truly mean ONLY) thing Furina did in the time since she inherited the role was: change the perception of what justice and its deliverance should be into something a lot more akin to a dramatic play, only enacted for people's enjoyment.
Tumblr media
Which includes her lack of knowledge on the Oratrice. Furina didn't create it. How could she? She's so utterly ignorant on what it is, how it works, and dare I say what it's truly even for.
Tumblr media
The moment I read this statement I convinced myself that it had to have been the previous Hydro Archon. And while I concede that: looking back on the wording of this statement now, it seems like its existence would only be beneficial under someone like Furina's ruling… But, I'm willing to just chalk that up to "Egeria had great future-sight" (or something more along the lines of: she trusted the machine to help keep her in check so false charges were less likely; and it just so happens that its decision making is carrying the court system now under Furina’s rule).
Like many things related to Fontaine's history, it would seem, Egeria being solely responsible for the creation of all these staple facilities and aspects of the nation's inner workings would shed light on why Furina is so unknowing. She had nothing to do with it. And while I'm no envoy from Celestia, so I have no insight as to what the hell happens when a new Archon is born to fill in the void that was left, I think that whatever that process is (IF THERE EVEN IS ONE) went completely awry for Furina. She probably didn't even inherit the Gnosis - ever ! I'm thinking it's stuffed into the Oratrice somehow/somewhere. I'm thinking the "curse" Arlecchino sensed has something to do with that process of inheritance (or... lack thereof) going so wrong.
It’s obvious that Furina is running from something. Ignoring something. Distracting herself from the realities of the world with the “spectacle of the courtroom” (as Dain put it). And it’d be easy to just chalk it up to her being a little bitch with no deeper meaning but I don’t think that’s it.
Genshin doesn’t make it gods “just human”. They spend their time trying to prove that they’re “Human too”.
The underlying reasons for it have to lie in whatever happened when Furina was born. Cursed. Whether it was a curse to end up alone (as per the prophecy), or to never obtain the powers becoming of a god in this world... Whatever happened, it overwhelmed Furina to an unbearable degree, and naturally, like any Human would... she resorted to escapism. She found entertainment in the trials headed at the court room, realized she could make people like her by being this mascot of justice, and upon learning that it's only a matter of time before all of her subjects turn into puddles and she'll be left all alone… she decided to just- NOT think about it!! Who would?! That is a horrifying! revelation.
THAT is why she's so scared to fight - literally anyone!! She doesn’t have the power (and if she does she’s never had to use it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THAT is why she’s turned out this way - a brat with very little humility, never knowing when to stop the act - because for centuries she’s lived in this little Lala-Land of a bubble denying the inevitable. A fate she was cursed with from the moment she inherited the title of “God”. She wasn’t really given powers, she wasn’t given dominion, and she most certainly hasn’t received instruction, or… ANY!?! HELP!! it seems, in understanding what it means to be an Archon (perhaps even in spite of those other perks she was “supposed” to receive.)
Born to be a god, yet being set up to suffer the loss of your entire people with almost no power to change it? That would fuck anyone up, even an Archon.
And it’s the way that they’ve shown how it’s fucked with Furina that blows my mind.
She’s so disconnected that Arle’s assassination attempt shocked her to her core. She’s a GOD!! Who would try to assassinate her (aside from the Fatui)!? She’s never had to even perceive the notion of being a target of something like that. Stack that on top of her general sense of helplessness in the greater context of what’s happening to her nation, and it makes sense that she broke down crying later that night... :(
Girlie just needs some help </3

Hey so fun idea; What if the forbidden knowledge was the knowledge of other worlds (that contradicts with celestias laws)? It’s already been stated that the sky is a lie, and teyvat is inside an egg shell type thing? Venti knows, but he’s a shade of a shade of Phanes, and the other one who we know knew is the goddess of flowers, the only seelie who retained her true form.
Venti brings them up in the manga in reference to sacrifice seeding life, and whether entering celestia made you a god. In essence, in other worlds to be a god was to sacrifice oneself, Pangu making the seas and rivers with his blood, etc, but the gods in favour of celestia openly act selfishly, with the conflict between phanes and the second descender, the cruel night forest mentioned in the Pale Princess, not to mention the whole colonisation thing. Gods define natrual law as seen in the story about that one guy from sumeru trying to make a glider without ventis blessing, so knowledge of these god’s selflessness would actively contradict teyvats natrual law. This may cause the whole corruption thing that happened in the desert nation.

Headcanon (theory?) about Paimon:
Paimon always gets scared when Traveler goes anywhere without her.
I feel like she got left behind in the past.
Maybe she isn't a Celestia spy after all, but someone who was kicked out of Celestia?

What if the in-universe difference between 4 and 5 star characters is that 5 star characters are closer or more likely to ascend to Celestia than 4 stars? And maybe ascension has something to do with personal aspirations and/or worldly attachments?
Like yeah, Beidou and Ningguang are really powerful lore-wise, but they don't seem to have any aspirations that would warrant godhood. Beidou seems comfortable where she's at as Captain of the Crux fleet, and Ningguang has her Jade Palace and one of the highest positions in Liyue's government, making godhood seem redundant.
I think it's easiest to see with the resident theatre kids: Yun Jin and Nilou. Both are the stars of their nations' respective theatrical troops, but their motives are very different. Yun Jin wants to move away from the traditional adepti-focused operas and tell stories based on the lives of regular people, as seen with her changes to Shenhe's opera. Nilou, on the other hand, is concerned about preserving the artistic traditions of a nation that has spent years treating them as unimportant and contrary to their god's ideals even though that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not saying that Yun Jin's goals are less important than Nilou's; I just think that Yun Jin's goals are more about the material, while Nilou's are more about the spiritual, and I think that is the difference that determines ascension to Celestia.

Aight, so hear me out for a sec
(incorrect grammar and punctuation usage warning sadly)
so, what if, and trust me on this one, the reason why there aren't any new archons replacing the currently "dead" ones is because Celestia somehow knows that they aren't actually dead
i mean yea it's kinda obvious but eujdkdksndjdj-
(more under the cut :]])
what if every archon, both still on Celestia and currently on Teyvat, is because there's a glass pane for every one of them?
like yk those church glass panels with cool drawings of people on them? yea, like those
and so what if that's a way they know if they should replace that archon or not?
the older the archon, the more cracks and scratches it has because of erosion, and the newer the archon, the more spotless and clean it is
Now for a few questions that y'all may have
what about the old archons before the seven seats were decided?
the replacement thingy still existed and it still happened, but eventually stopped because of the archon war and the selection of the seven archons
what about Makoto? didn't she die in Khaenri'ah's destruction?
Ei took her position before Celestia chose one of the "backup/standby" archons
what happens to the glass panel after the archon dies?
exactly what you'd think would happen, dear reader
the glass panel breaks and shatters, gets cleaned up by the staff tasked with handling the cleanup, it gets replaced by a new panel - specifically the backup/standby archons that are/is chosen to replace said archon - in a few days as there needs to be a sort of voting on who gets to replace them if there are multiple, and a new panel will be added to that backup/standby archon's old panel - incase the one(s) the now current archon hadn't already, to which that other archon's panel is to be replaced with a new one in due time - and then the process repeats
•----------•
and that conludes my reasoning and hc on how there hasn't been a "new geo or anemo archon" ever since Morax faked his death :DD
and yea ik it may be a strange hc or reasoning behind it but hey, a church with Morax's ✨majestic✨ form along with the other archons + the standby/backup archons is a cool thought to think about every once in a while
And yes, writers and artists, feel free to take my idea, just don't forget to credit me tho ;]]

-pov khaenri'ah destroyed-
Celestia: So. Who destroyed it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know.
Morax: ...I did. I destroyed it.
Celestia: No. No you didn't. Barbatos?
Barbatos: Don't look at me. Look at Tsaritsa.
Tsaritsa: What?! I didn't destroy it.
Barbatos: Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was destroyed?
Tsaritsa: Because it's right in front of us and it's in ruins.
Barbatos: Suspicious.
Tsaritsa: No it's not!
Pyro archon: If it matters, probably not, but Baal was the last one to go there.
Baal: Liar! I don't even like that place!
Pyro archon: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the ruins earlier?
Baal: My sister died there. Everyone knows that, Pyro!
Morax: Okay let's not fight. I destroyed it. Let me pay for it, Celestia.
Celestia: No! Who destroyed it!?
Hydro archon: Celestia...Rukkhadevata's been awfully quiet.
Kusanali: REALLY?!
_____
Celestia: I destroyed it. I burned my hand so I punched it. I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick.
Celestia: good. It was getting a little chummy around here.

The Tsaritsa’s Plan - Theory (SPOILERS)
Welcome to another one of veridian sparks’ crack theories:
The tsaritsa is using the harbingers to create archon soldiers to win a war against celestia.
OK HEAR ME OUT
The tsaritsa 1.) was deeply traumatized by the cataclysm/fall of khaenri'ah -> caused by celestia. 2.) she wants to “burn away the old world” -> this can be inferred to mean the world/world order celestia has built and still maintains. 3.) “she declared war against the whole world only because she dreams of peace” -> the ‘whole world’ is owned and controlled by celestia
We also know that the tsaritsa is collecting all the gnoses. Why else would she need them than to build her new world? We know celestia is brutal with maintaining their control, hence the entire cataclysm. So it’s pretty clear she’s collecting them to use them as weapons
So why bring the harbingers into this? (It’s clear that the tsaritsa can’t storm celestia on her own, or she would have done it already)
Well because the harbingers are her 1.) most loyal followers and 2.) most powerful followers. I mean hell, Scaramouche is LITERALLY THE HUSK OF A GOD. Tartaglia fell into the ABYSS as a CHILD and SURVIVED. The harbingers are obviously insanely skilled and dangerous, we can even assume the most powerful group of ‘mortal’ warriors in teyvat.
But mortal soldiers like the harbingers are *way* too weak to battle a land of gods more powerful than the archons, even with delusions. So what else better to power boost them than the gnoses?
I’d even argue signora’s death would benefit this, as it ‘weeds out’ the weaker harbingers; so that by the time the tsaritsa has collected all of the gnoses, she will theoretically only have her most powerful harbingers left. Then, she can assign a gnosis to a harbinger depending on their vision/delusion. And boom: loyal, god-powered super soliders
-
That scaramouche lore got me REELING boys
Of course this ^ is mostly speculations. It honestly seems too early in the plot to have solid theories for endgame content anyway. We gotta get through sumeru at least, crossing my fingers for some more A plot lore drops PLEASE lmao
What do you think the tsaritsa has planned for the gnoses? I’m super curious to dive into more fandom theories
